Did you know heart disease is the number one killer of women over 50? More than breast and other cancers and usually the victims and their doctors mistake the symptoms of heart attack for other ailments.
"50 Ways Women Can Prevent Heart Disease" is a wonderful book that addresses heart disease prevention specifically for women. The author uses a conversational tone while giving useful statistics, explanation of medical terms and great steps everyone can incorporate into their lives.
The five areas addressed to prevent heart disease are:
Smoking;
Diet;
Exercise;
Other factors (includes a discussion on diabetes that also contributes to heart disease in many people);
Hormone Replacement Therapy.
I would highly recommend this book to all women who are overweight, smoke, or have a family history of heart disease. You owe it to yourself and your loved ones.

This is the first work to highlight the contributions of regiments of the Pennsylvania Dutch and post1820 immigrant Germans at the Battle of Gettysburg. On the first day, the 1st Corps, in which many of the Pennsylvania Dutch regiments served, and the half-German 11th Corps, which had five regiments of either variety in it, bought with their blood enough time for the federals to adequately prepare the high ground, which proved critical in the end for the Union victory. On the second day, they participated in beating back Confederate attacks that threatened to crack the Union defenses on Cemetery Hill and in other strategic locations.

Damn Dutch, is not only highly readble and flawlessly presented, it is extremely thought provoking. If you want to immerse yourself in an excellent history that reads like a novel, pick up Damn Dutch. Co-author Keller shines and adds significantly to the power of this story that has long been overshadowed by the Civil War's more "popular" vingettes.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Valuska and Keller's Damn Dutch. It not only covered the actions of Pennsylvania's German soldiers in the important battle of Gettysburg, but also those of the Pennsylvania Dutch ((descendents of eighteenth century German-speaking immigrants who developed their own dialect and culture in the Keystone State).
Although approximately two hundred thousand native Germans and many descendents of Germans fought for the Union during the Civil War, scant attention has been paid to their wartime military service or how they viewed the war. Therefore, Damn Dutch is a welcome addition to the very limited number of studies about Germans in the Civil War.
This book is well researched and well written. It is both a military history and a social history, and in addition describing military actions also addresses how the battle of Gettysburg and the Civil War in general affected Pennsylvania's immigrant Germans and the Pennsylvania Dutch. I highly recommend it.

I attempted to order what's listed above: "The Papacy and the Levant (Volume III: the Sixteenth Century)" in Hardcover. What came instead was only part of Volume III - and that was in Softcover.
Amazon staff said that the webpage was inaccurate - and they'd get it fixed. Its now been over a month - and still the incorrect information remains.
Be warned that if you order what's listed above, you won't get it.

This beautiful album has also a slight technical touch. It begins with one page introduction, and ends with one page list of architects. In between, each of 12 chapters - dedicated to one tower - begins with one page description followed by the best possible photos on 10+ pages, and 2 to 4 pages with floor plans, sections or sometimes elevations, site plan, model, axonometric view, sketch. Everything is beautifully published on a glossy paper, and looks spectacularly.

Well having this book as course material in International Marketing, we have concluded that this book actually drained knowledge from us. The management cliche extravaganza in this book is abundant. Howabout: A successful global marketing program is preferrable to an unsuccessful one. Wow, this taught us lots. Ok, so the introduction states that the book is meant for CEO's, we guess their knowledge is far superior to us mere mortals, so this book makes sense to them.
Do not bother reading beyond chapter one, what is presented in this chapter is repeated throughout the book. In order to support what is presented, the book grabs examples from the air in order to fit the theory.
In conclusion, we recommend not to buy this book. If you want a couple of hundred pages saying basically nothing in management language, this is the book for you.

Fantastic writing!
This author makes it clear that growing up in an affluent family can be more complex than the easy life--especially for a child. A heart-wrenching and honest exposure of feelings. I felt as if I was pulled into the experience myself, and got to know the family personally. I'm glad I found this book and recommend it highly.

Unlike most other emerging South American democracies, Venezuela has not succumbed to a successful military coup d'état during four decades of democratic rule. What drives armed forces to follow the orders of elected leaders? And how do emerging democracies gain that control over their military establishments? Harold Trinkunas answers these questions in an examination of Venezuela's transition to democracy following military rule and its attempts to institutionalize civilian control of the military over the past sixty years, a period that included three regime changes.
Trinkunas first focuses on the strategic choices democratizers make about the military and how these affect the internal civil-military balance of power in a new regime. He then analyzes a regime's capacity to institutionalize civilian control, looking specifically at Venezuela's failures and successes in this arena during three periods of intense change: the October revolution (1945-48), the Pact of Punto Fijo period (1958-98), and the Fifth Republic under President Hugo Chávez (1998 to the present). Placing Venezuela in comparative perspective with Argentina, Chile, and Spain, Trinkunas identifies the bureaucratic mechanisms democracies need in order to sustain civilian authority over the armed forces.
