I never knew Chinese calligraphy could be so fascinating........1998-12-02

This is a fabulous book that makes a difficult and exotic subject perfectly understandable. Mi Fu is one of the greatest artists in the world, but who in the West knows about an 11th century Chinese calligrapher? Sturman's sensitive and learned discussion brings it all alive. I loved this book!!!

Not too bad for what it is.......2005-01-05

I picked this comic up at the Baltimore comic-con this past fall. I am a huge fan of the show and the characters. The comic was good, but as I am sure others have said, rushed. The art was unique and the writing was good, but having a whole day in one comic is too much. It would take a long time, but the best way to do a 24 comic is to have one storyline take 24 issues, one hour an issue. Still a good read, I reccomend it to any fan of the show.

For "24" Fans Only.......2004-08-13

If you're a "24" fan, you'll want to have this, if only for the sake of having it. If you're not a fan of the show, it probably won't mean as much to you because you won't know who the characters are. I'm not a fan of the photorealistic art and at times it can be a little funky and distracting. But the story is actually not bad and the writers do have a good grasp of the characters from the show's first season. It's good to see Walsh, Jamie and the old gang back in action. The story also does a good job of capturing the history of Jack, giving us small glimpses into his past without revealing too much. However, the book tries too hard to capture the time element of the show, that they could have just skipped. There's a bit of a cliffhanger ending (which will not surprise "24" fans) which leads me to believe this one shot will not be the only shot.

I first saw this book in a Borders and looked in it on a whim. Knowing that my great uncle had be awarded the medal of honor. I was happily surprised that he was in there (pg. 223) and even more to find he is also on the CD! My son never got to meet him since he passed away just before my son turned one so now I have a way of showing my son what his family has done! Great book many other great heroes in it. I will be buying more for my family and friends.

Memory itself is inseparable from all other brain functions and involves distributed dynamic neural processes. A wealth of publications in neuroscience literature report that the concerted action of distributed multiple oscillatory processes (EEG oscillations) play a major role in brain functioning. The analysis of function-related brain oscillations is currently one of the most important areas of neuroscience research. Memory and Brain Dynamics: Oscillations Integrating Attention, Perception, Learning, and Memory bridges the disciplines of neurophysiology, cognitive psychology, and EEG brain dynamics to examine how the brain represents mental events that are interwoven with memory. I moved to Georgia 14 years ago, from Vermont. Talk about climate shock! I found THE BIRD GARDEN to be quite helpful in getting me started in Zone 7. It is certainly not a completely comprehensive book, nor does it pretend to be. The sketches of sample bird gardens based on the varying climate areas of the USA gave me an easy to follow template for turning my yard into a bird and butterfly sanctuary. The year I had twenty-six chrysalises on the side of my house, I knew I'd done something right. Creating a bird garden, after all, cannot help but benefit the other welcome species, too.

My (indoor) cats and I love bird-watching now.

Steve Kress is a great ornithologist and I greatly admire the work he's done in wildlife species and habitat preservation--but this book is not one of his best achievements. Basic and sketchy, at best it might give you a few ideas, but you won't be able to really implement them from this book--you'll have to get much better and more complete references. Look on the audabon web site or other birdwatchers web sites for ideas, and donate the money you save from not buying this book to audabon.

Make it this one. It's full of detailed information on all aspects of creating a garden that will attract birds. It's well written and clearly illustrated.
