Classic reference book on Hopi pottery & sybology.......1999-06-21
Reprint of portion of Bureau of Ethnology Report #17, 1895 and #33 (I don't know the date). Not the easiest reading, but important primary resource. Fewkes was not the most meticulous archaeologist, but for his day he was pretty good, and he obtained his information at an early period in the ethological research of the Hopi culture.

Book Description
Treasure one of the greatest forms of pop art in America--the metal lunch box. This is undoubtedly the most comprehensive and colorful compilation of metal lunch boxes ever published. Memories of childhood buddies carried to school each day are beautifully photographed from every angle to display the front, the back and the bands of every box. With sections on care and cleaning, a list of manufacturers, and color photographs of the over 500 boxes themselves, the authors have created a wonderful guide to an entertaining field in pop culture. The book includes foreign boxes and carry-alls as well as a section on advertising and original art.
Customer Reviews:
Good pictures, uninspired text.......2004-09-30
There are indeed some lovely shots of classic lunch kits in this volume. However, I have yet to find a book that approaches the thoroughness, photographic appeal, or wit of the two books by the fellow who started it all, Scott Bruce. If you are a beginning collector, the best thing you can do is get hold of the Bruce books for a comprehensive history and background, and then sign on to www.lunchboxpad.com, a website run by a young collector, for a realistic current price guide.
Great nostalgia and fond memories on every page!.......1998-09-16
If you ever owned, or wanted to own a lunchbox from the 50's through the 80's, this is the book for you. This book provides fond memories of school days, mom's lunches and "what was cool!". Full color photographs of the boxes and thermoses from various angles really make it a must for someone interested in lunchbox collecting or for someone just looking for a fond recollection of a simpler day gone by...

superb "how to" on a rarely covered subject.......2006-05-14
It would be easy to glance at this book and dismiss it as just another coffee-table art book, but it is in fact an excellent photography "how to" book. It was written in 1983 and it shows -- there is no mention of digital cameras, or even the most modern developments in film cameras -- but it still gives a solid grounding in basic photography techniques and how to apply them to photography of the male figure. Much of the material in this book is equally applicable to digital cameras, and potential readers shouldn't be put off by the age of the book. Practical advice on things like the effects of different lighting, composing the picture, and displaying the final result will be useful regardless of the type of camera used.
The book starts with very basic principals of photography, and goes on to show how to apply them in male glamour photography. As such it will be useful to amateur photographers ranging from those who have never used more than a point-and-shoot pocket camera to serious hobbyists. My feeling is that it will also be of use to the professional looking to move into a different genre, but not being a professional myself I don't have the experience to judge this.
The book is crammed with example photos illustrating the points made in the text. These photos have a very practical use in the book, but they also make it a very nice coffee-table art book. There is a clear emphasis on male gay eroticism, but these photos are erotic art, rather than standard centrefold porn, and there's a great deal of variety in settings and poses. It's well worth buying just to look at the pretty pictures, and artists may well find it a useful reference book.
It's been reprinted a number of times, sometimes with different cover art. My copy was printed in 1998 by Eagle Editions and it appears to have been reprinted at least once since then. It doesn't appear to be in print at the time of writing, but is usually available second-hand, and you may see a new copy from time to time.

Book Description
This book covers the dimensions that influence how boundaries are established for successful negotiating. It explores how different types of people, processes and positional issues all influence each other and ultimately determine the outcome of negotiations. Focusing on the area of the unknown, will enable readers to quickly determine their own boundaries as well as the boundaries of others, in order to bring negotiating scenarios to successful ends. The purpose of this title is not to endorse one set of criteria as correct, at the expense of others, but to expose the reader to the many elements that set the boundaries for negotiating.
Book Description
Market-defining since it was first introduced, International Business, 4e by Charles W. L. Hill, continues to set the standard for international business textbooks. Charles Hill’s reputation as a leading thinker and actor in the international arena precede him, and he is regularly asked to explain world economic events on National Public Radio. His expertise lends itself to a book that is thorough and up-to-date. Because many issues in international business are complex, they necessitate exploration of pros and cons of economic theories, government policies, business strategies, organizational structures, etc. The author challenges the often shallow explanations that other books offer, while maintaining a tight integrated flow between the chapters. Hill’s book is practical in nature, focusing on managerial implications of each topic on the actual practice of international business. The author’s passion and enthusiasm for the international business arena is apparent on every page as he strives to make important theories interesting, informative, and accessible to all students.
Customer Reviews:
Hill's International Business.......2007-09-27
Great book for my MBA course in International Business. It is well organized, full of clearly defined principles, and loaded with case studies.
Don't waste your money.......2007-06-28
I think that these reviews are for the textbook and not for this "outline." This product is nothing but a glossary and binder paper. It isn't worth half the price. I'm very, very disappointed. Most of the definitions are repeated in other chapters and it gives definitions for words like "Disney," and "Accounting." This thing is completely useless to me.
Culture, Economics, Stategy, and Corportate Functions.......2007-05-17
I've used previous editions of this text in my international business course, and have decided to adopt this one as well. The text does a great job of hitting every topic that international business people/corporations need to know. The text covers country differences, economics, strategy, and corporate functions.
Another Amazon review incorrectly suggested that the author of this text is biased politically and in favor of larger firms. If the author intended to introduce a political bias in the text he certainly could have done it with the cases, but it is clear from reading such cases as the Kellogg Brown & Root case on page 190 that the author has no particular axe to grind. It is, in short, simply impossible to guess the author's political orientation.
The book also has no bias in favor of larger firms. The business school in which I teach is (in fact) oriented towards entrepreneurship and smaller firms. The text was selected, in part, because the information imparted would be just as valuable to small firms as it would be to the large. The author specifically addresses the topic of "mini-multinationals" as well as topics that would be of interest primarily to smaller firms.
smooth transaction, exact product, nice&easy supplier.......2007-05-14
exact product at an affordable price w a smooth transaction
Bias written into text.......2007-05-13
If you don't mind your information being written from the Western, pro Big-Business, capitalist view, the bias conveyed throughout the text won't be a problem. But if you are looking for something objective, something to fairly present the concepts associated with globalization, search elsewhere.
In the first two chapters alone, several instances of bias are written into the text. For example, in the first chapter, protesters of the WTO are referred to as "anarchists" and in the second chapter the difference between communists and social democrats is claimed to be that communists use violence in their revolutions. This is clearly not the case. While historically this may be true of the revolts, this is not even close to the fundamental difference between the two groups. For the first example, it can be seen that thousands of people gather to protest the WTO and it is certain that a select few, if any, consider themselves anarchists.
It is clear where the author stands!

Product Description
The Long Journey Home recounts the history of the black Community of Princeton, New Jersey, from 1776-1976. This was a much-needed journey through the pages of history to rediscover a communitys past. The struggles for religious, social and educational equality were faced with determination by a proud community that stood on the threshold of American history and witnessed the growth of a great nation as it stayed in the background. This book is an attempt to bring that history into the foreground to take its rightful place in the development of this nation.

Book Description
If we want to achieve true intimacy,we need to listen with more than just our ears. We need the third ear, says author John DeFoore--the ear of the heart. You can be happier, your relationships richer, and your intimacy deeper. This wise, warm, inspiring book shows you how.
Book Description
The German army's first campaign in the far north was an outstanding success: Between April and June 1940, German forces of less than 20,000 seized Norway, a state of three million people, while suffering only minimal losses. The army learned new skills to fight effectively in snow and ice. Since the terrain prohibited the use of tanks and heavy artillery, and lack of airfields restricted the employ-ment of aircraft, the war became an infantry duel waged across a frozen landscape. While the war in the far north was an effec-tive campaign that resulted in significant losses to the Red Army and Allied convoys, the Wahrmacht resources com--mitted there ultimately drained the German war effort. In the end, Hitler's obsession with preventing an Allied invasion of Norway contributed heavily to the German collapse of 1944-45.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent and Chilling.......2007-09-11
a total picture of the cold and bitter fighting with pictures included. Comprhensive while still remaining a good read with an easy understanding of a sometimes complex situation.
Hitlers Artic War.......2007-01-12
Having recently returned from Norway I was interested in how the Norweigians repelled the Nazis. The book detailed the information I was seeking. Amazon found the title for me, and made delivery in a very timely manner.
Picture book of all aspects of Northern War.......2006-05-08
This is a picture book covering all aspects of the Northern Campaign including the 1939 Russo-Finnish War, the 1940 invasion of Norway, the campaigns in Finland and Karelia from 1941-1944, and all aspects of the naval war in the Barents and Arctic over the same period. As a history of the events and campaigns, this is little more than a brief overview. The topics are so broad and the text so short that only the merest overview is given. All of the information can be found elsewhere, there is virtually nothing new. If you want to know anything about any of the campaigns nominally covered in this work, I strongly recommend that you find other books that are better written and more narrowly focused (such as Trotter's book on the 1939 Winter War or Ziemke's book if you are interested in the Karelia). There are lots of great (and rare) photos in this book, but little more. One thing that really annoyed me about this book was that the authors openly present a strong pro-Soviet bias. This is unacceptable in a scholarly historical publication by two professional historians (both have Ph.D.s). This should have been written with more balance, I can only conclude that this is not a serious work. My rating of three stars is, I believe, generous and I would not disagree with anyone who gave it two. This is a picture book of the Arctic war, and if you are looking for more than this, you will disappointed by this volume. Not recommended for a serious student of the era.
A good primer on the arctic theater in WWII.......2004-08-25
Hitler's Arctic War is a useful introduction to that theater of WWII. The book starts by covering the Soviet invasion of Finland in 1939. Although this seems odd, given the title, it makes sense since strategically that war was important for later actions in Scandinavia. Next, the invasion of Norway is fairly well-covered, although without a lot of detail.
The German/Finn invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941 is covered in much more detail. Included is a chapter on the naval convoys to send Lend-Lease material to the USSR via the arctic port of Murmansk. This is very interesting stuff, and is a topic that is only lightly addressed elsewhere. This is probably the main contribution of the book. The Soviet (re)invasion of Finnland in 1944 is also covered in solid fashion. Glantz provides more detail in his Battle for Leningrad, but this book will do if you just want the general overview and highlights of the battle. The book concludes with by examining covert operations and commando raids in Norway during the war.
If you are looking for an exhaustive source on WWII in Scandinavia, this is not for you. If you're looking for a solid introduction to the topic, this book will do nicely.
Hitler's Arctic War.......2004-06-19
I was surprised when I read this book, at the number of errors, inaccuracies, and untruths I found in it. It is painfully apparent that no one with any knowledge of that theater checked this book before it was published.
I also had a problem with reading it. It felt like the authors each wrote what they wanted, and didn't bother to compare their efforts before putting them together. There is nothing wrong with reinforcing information in previous chapters. Telling it to the reader again, though, is a different matter.
I ordered this book to aid my own research into the campaigns in the North. I kept it only as a reminder of what not to publish. I was sorely disappointed with this product.

Book Description
The theory of D-modules is a rich area of study combining ideas from algebra and differential equations, and it has significant applications to diverse areas such as singularity theory and representation theory. This book introduces D-modules and their applications, avoiding all unnecessary technicalities. The author takes an algebraic approach, concentrating on the role of the Weyl algebra. The author assumes very few prerequisites, and the book is virtually self-contained. The author includes exercises at the end of each chapter and gives the reader ample references to the more advanced literature. This is an excellent introduction to D-modules for all who are new to this area.

An Unsung Hero.......2007-01-16
If your a science enthusiast and enjoy reading about the history and the people behind some of the great scientific achievements then you will enjoy this book. I certainly never realized the scope of Maxwell's achievements. He was simply brilliant.
Required reading for those interested in how one of the world's most creative scientists went about his life of discorvery........2006-11-03
In the history of science there are only a few true human beings who used their genius in a humble and open fashion to uncover some of natures best kept secrets, while remaining true to their principles, friends and family. James Clerk Maxwell was one of these largely unsung heros.[ As was Paul Dirac who started his studies in Electrical Engineering some decades later]
I recommend this book to all those engineering and science students interested in how a fundamental pillar of modern science and engineering, electromagnetics, actually came into being.
One hopes that some of todays students will be able to follow in the footsteps of such a true scientist and well rounded human being as James Clerk Maxwell.
Biography of James Maxwell.......2006-08-27
I found the book easily readable and enjoyable, however focusing more on biography and light on science. I had hoped to pick up more science, especially when the bigraphy was written by an engineer. I found that my knowledge of Maxwell's contributions to science was limited before reading this book. I also found it interesting that physics was taught in his day as natural philosophy. The many details of the English universities were also quite interesting.
Superlative in both Biography & Science.......2006-08-24
"The Man who Changed Everything: The Life of James Clerk Maxwell"
Mahon is a suberb biographer, one of the finest currently in print. Biographies of notable people in history can be one dimensional; but a two dimensional approach is necessary when writing about a scientist. The author must not only convey the personal elements, but also explain his significant discoveries in greater detail. The critical balance is whether or not to emphasize the the personal elements and go soft on the science; or to emphasize the science in greater depth, yet somehow reveal the person behind the scientific mind. The second choice, to include more of the exactness of the scientific discoveries is the choice of author Basil Mahon.
Mahon reveals James Clerk Maxwell through his science, rather then showing, by human anecdotes, a personality that eclipses the scientific accomplishments. Maxwell lived in the age when science was more fluid and generalized, not so specialized as it is today. That is why Maxwell, a mathematician, made discoveries in the nature of Light, Electricity and Magnetism, and also worked in astronomy.
In fact, in the 1800's, the title "scientist" did not exist. The study of natural phenomena was placed in the ancient classification of "natural philosophy". Fledgling scientists in the mid 1800's typically were wealthy individuals who pursued science as a hobby. The Law and Clergy were fields drawing bright young men.
Mahon tells of of Maxwell's formative years, and covers the years at Edinburgh University, and Cambridge in depth, and throughout these years, Maxwell is performing experiments of his own. His character was generous towards others. He was quiet amongst total strangers, and vocal and stimulating amongst groups of his friends. He got up at 2 AM each night, and jogged through his lodgings until 2:30 AM. Maxwell was in these years, and for the many thereafter, a prolific letter writer, confiding in many acquaintances and advising them on their personal and public matters.
A wonderful biography.......2006-06-26
James Maxwell was a phenomenal, and perhaps underappreciated, scientist, and a wonderful person. Basil Mahon, who obviously loves Maxwell, has done a wonderful job of summarizing his life. Biographers of such prodigies have to avoid deluging their readers with too many details on the one hand, but on the other hand they have to avoid being so brief that their subject ultimately remains elusive to their readers.
Mahon has done a masterfully dealt with this dilemna. By going through the more important stations in Maxwell's life, but always providing more detailed sources in the appendix, often with insightful critiques of these articles, he has opened a doorway to understanding the Maxwell's life and works. If you are looking for a good biography of Maxwell, or simply just a good book to stimulate your interest in science, for you or your children, I highly recommend this book.

Customer Reviews:
Could have been so much better.......2001-04-06
First, a warning. This book was first published in Spain in 1992. I began to suspect something was up when there was oddness in some of the sentences. For example, what we in the US would call a track guard, the authors call a skirt. What Americans refer to as a skirt, they refer to as a side-skirt.
This book could have been better by adding more pages, cutting the number of subjects, providing plans for some of the scratch-built pieces (especially for the MG shield for the Sheridan, and hull pieces for the M43 HMC and M41 HMC), and general updating.
You won't find many assembly tips, but there is quite a bit on painting and weathering.
The subjects are T-54 (back-dating the ESCI T-55), T-62BDD (Tamiya), M551 (Academy), M43 HMC (Tamiya), M41 HMC (Italeri), M60A1 RISE (ESCI), Israeli M60A1 w/Blazer (Tamiya), and the S Tank (Accurate Armour). The Merkava and T-34/85 (in Croatian colors) are also in here, but the articles are totally on painting/weathering as they don't even mention what kits were used.

The book: documents the broad range of benefits, including economic impacts, resulting from comprehensive biodiversity protection efforts; identifies and disseminates information on replicable best community practices; establishes benchmarks for evaluating community biodiversity protection programs.
Nine comprehensive case studies of communities explain how nature protection programs have been implemented. From Austin and Baltimore to Tucson and Minneapolis, the authors explore how different cities and counties have taken bold steps to successfully protect natural areas. Examining program structure and administration, land acquisition strategies and sources of funding, habitat restoration programs, social impacts, education efforts, and overall results, these case studies lay out perfect examples that other communities can easily follow. Among the case study sites are Sanibel Island, Florida; Austin, Texas; Baltimore County, Maryland; Charlotte Harbor, Florida; and Teton County, Wyoming.
Nature-Friendly Communities offers a useful overview of the increasing number of communities that have established successful nature protection programs and the significant benefits those programs provide. It is an important new work for public officials, community activists, and anyone concerned with understanding or implementing local or regional biodiversity protection efforts.

Important Book.......2007-09-29
Nature-friendly Communities is an important and timely book. Useful to both professional planners and community leaders, these case studies show what is possible, and encourage us all to move in these directions. Very readable, great information.
Warning: This Book Contains Some Propaganda.......2005-09-29
After my experiences with the Nature-UNfriendliness of Baltimore
County, with regards to being harassed by the county for having
wildflowers and native plants in a Nature-friendly landscape, I
was absolutely shocked to see Baltimore County listed as one of
the top-ten supposedly "Nature-Friendly" communities. Would a
truly Nature-friendly community issue someone a criminal citation
for having "weeds and tall grass," which are wildflowers and
native grasses, growing on one's property? Would a truly
Nature-friendly community have laws stating that all plants which
are allergenic
(as are most plants), all plants that are poisonous (as are many cultivated plants, as well as many native
plants!), any plants subjectively determined to be "weeds"
over a foot tall and any types of grasses over a foot tall,
are illegal? Unfortunately, Baltimore County only appears to be
Nature-friendly as long as one's neighbors have no complaints
about Nature-friendly landscapes and don't telephone code
enforcement to complain about "weeds and tall grass." Of course,
tall decorative grass growing outside of a county office building
is apparently not viewed as a violation of those same laws that
the county's citizens are subjected to.
Although I've telephoned the publisher of this book about the
inclusion of Baltimore County being a mistake, they've yet to
return my telephone call.
wonderful index.......2005-07-26
This is a timely and important book; especially in times that promote big business at the expense of the environment.
The wonderful index is a great aid to the reader.
