Doesn't Address Early Miscarriage.......2002-09-11
This book is touching and offers stories from real women's experience, but tries to be to broad. The book doesn't really talk about early miscarriage. It is written by two women whose infants died in the hospital, and almost all of the examples are stories of women who have gone through similar experiences. In the chapter on miscarriage, the stories are all of women who lost thier babies after the first trimester. The authors also misdefine missed abortion.

Following the debacle of the battle of Fredricksburg in December 1862, Burnside was replaced as commander of the Army of the Potomac by General Joseph Hooker. Having reorganised the army and improved morale, Hooker planned an attack that would take his army to Richmond and end the war. Although faced by an army twice the size of his own, the Confederate commander Robert E. Lee split his forces: Jubal Early was left to hold off Sedgwick's Fredericksburg attack, and Stonewall Jackson was sent with 26,000 men in a wide envelopment around Hooker's right flank. This title details how at dusk on May 2, Jackson's men crashed into the Federal right flank, and how stiffening Federal resistance slowed the Confederate advance the next day. This victory was Lee's masterpiece - but also deprived him forever of Stonewall Jackson, his most capable commander, who died of wounds incurred during the battle.

Great Graphics, Sloppy History.......2001-06-06
The book has a number of errors in it, some from bad editing, others from sloppy research. I used it to try and piece together what happened when during the battle, and found it very confusing. I'm a fan of the Osprey series, but unless you like the maps in this book, you'd be best to look elsewhere for information on the battle.
Errors Abound.......2001-01-12
I hate to nit-pick, but I found Fredericksburg 1862 and Chancellorsville 1863 to be replete with errors, at least the versions I read, both Military Book Club editions. The lists of errors I sent to Osprey went on for a three and six pages respectively. Many of them were relatively minor, but there were enough of them, and some not so minor, to cause me to consider the books greatly flawed. Let me note here that I live near Fredericksburg and volunteer once a month at the Chancellorsville Battlefield Visitor Center, so I am fairly familiar with the battles in question. I also want to point out up front that Osprey was very receptive to my comments and implied that future editions may incorporate some changes. I own more than 75 Osprey titles and that this is certainly not the norm for their products, many of which are excellent.
Some types of problems I noted with the books included:
- spelling errors such as Sedgewick for Sedgwick (not always, but several times), Siegel for Sigel and Hero Van Borke for Heros von Borcke. - geographic errors such as inaccurate descriptions of the road net, an incorrect locations for geographic features, and faulty relative positions. - graphical errors such as inaccurate troop dispositions (multiple instances), incorrect unit symbology and faulty depiction of vegetation on maps. - factual errors such as placing events on the wrong date, incorrectly identifying unit commanders and referring to Chancellorsville as a farmhouse rather than an inn.
I recommend waiting for a revised edition.
top notch writing that reads well and provides good detail.......1999-09-11
Having read Carl's book on The Battle of Gettysburg, I wondered if he could top it! This author has an excellent delivery style. Details provided are good,and the pictures, illustrations, etc. enhance the book. Civil War history is fast becoming a favorite subject and I hope we can look forward to more campaign series from him.
A well written account of the battle with lots of detail........1999-06-01
This title delivers on it's promise of explaining the battle and events leading up to it and after it. It is well illustrated and covers the situation objectively. The author manages to balance good writing with dry statistics. The Osprey Campaign Series format of 96 pages is put to good use with every major detail explained without having to skimp on certain areas or draw out others. I would recommend this as a single definitive source on the battle of Chancellorsville.

Grizzly Almanac (143-4... provides a cultural history and almanac of the bear, covering everything from hunting regulations and changing environments to bear encounters with humans. An excellent guide to the grizzly.
Plagued by dubious cliches.......2001-03-16
Fine writing, but the facts are suspect. As an example, the chapter on bear attacks gives the usual spin that the odds of being killed in a car accident on your way to Yellowstone Park are greater than the odds of being killed by a grizzly in Yellowstone. Yeah, there's not much chance of encountering a grizzly in the vast parking lot at Old Faithful, but if you look at the rate of injuries from bears to hikers in Yellowstone's backcountry, it's readily apparent that people hiking in the backcountry are at far greater risk than people driving through the park in their Winnebago.
I give this book 3 stars only because the author is very sincere and trys to give a balanced presentation. In terms of accuracy and relevant facts, the Grizzly Almanac gets 1 star.
Busch has done it again!.......2001-01-31

This was bascially my course book on a NOLS mountaineering course I took. The basic skills needed for mountaineering we learned can be found in this book. It's great to have it around your house to look through just to keep your skills fresh in your mind when you're not mountaineering. If you are going into mountaineering don't think that just by reading this book you'll be ready. Take a NOLS course. NOLS always produces high quality stuff.

Before you ever hit the car lot you need to be prepared. This book is a "gotta have". The other books you need are Consumers Reports books and the NADA price guides. Having the facts and details readily at hand can save you a ton of cash and keep you from ground into hamburger by the car salesmen. This also goes for buying from private parties. Locked into this is using CARFAX or a related on line car history check. If you know the history of the car can save you a lot GRIEF. Don't be rushed into buying anything. Take your time and most of all don't put up with the high pressure sales tactics of car salesmen or pushy owners.

I loved this book. It was very informative and helped me understand the reason behind the way my dog behaves. It's also written in an easy to understand way so you don't have to have a big vocabulary to read this book. Actually, I loved this book so much I bought all the other books in the series.

I couldn't get past the poor editing of this book. Every time I saw the phrase "such as" enclosed in commas, I wanted to scream!
However, these folks are experts and provide, in a short piece, a wealth of historical information. If you want your house to be surrounded by period plantings, this is the place to start. Regretfully without photos, which is a shame given that I googled the authors and they've created some very beautiful period gardens that they should be proud of.

Although this book is written after the Tierra Amarilla series, it is concise and easier to understand than his earlier works by the student of the Spanish language. I found it hard to hold back the tears of sympathy for his experiences. At the end of the last chapter, I wished that it were volume one of six volumes.
