                  Book Description

The volume focuses on the demand side phenomena of the soaring economic growth of the past few centuries. Growth theory has basically ignored the massive changes that occur here: the huge increase in the variety of products and services and the growing specialization in consumption behavior. The papers in the present volume argue, in contrast, that precisely these changes are crucial for understanding why ever more goods and services can be sold and, thus, economic growth can continue. The papers explore the historical and empirical developments in consumption and offer first theoretical orientations on this important, though neglected, topic.

                          Book Description

The Truth of a Spirit Dying is about forgiveness. Identifying the counterparts of our struggles and embracing them. Facing the ghosts of our past and confronting them. ItÂ's about one familyÂ's trials and tribulations relating to the lost of a primary figure in the cycle of life. ItÂ's a journey in search of answers that leads to the discovery of a greater cause and a higher power.

The Truth of a Spirit Dying highlights the devastating trickle down affect that a fatherÂ's absence has on a mother and her children. Also, the courage and strength she displays as a single mother attempting to fulfill the role of both mother and father, while her effort goes unnoticed by her children. As the mother struggles to keep the family together she uses drinking as a mechanism to cope with the loss of the only man she ever loved and the fading images of her children. As she became more dependent on alcohol, her children became less dependent on her and are forced to nurture their own existence. The family is quickly broken up and subsequently began their journeys through life carrying the burden of being fatherless children, an inheritance that would never die.

Panzer III & Its Varients is THE book to buy about this German Tank of WWII. All of the models and varients are captured- the prototypes, production tanks- in many excellent scale drawings, cut aways and photos.

What makes this book so excellent is the quality of the photos and line drawings. Everything is covered in a single source- hull, chassis, powerplant, suspension, turret, armament, armor, equipment- it's all there.

Two minor irritants, first is that many of the line drawings have not been translated from the German orginal. Secondly, many of the photos & drawings about the Sturmgeshutz (self propelled gun varient) are duplicated in Spielbergers work on the Sturmgeshutz.

An excellent work, a valuable collection to anyone's collection, highly recommended.

This book is great! I love those old stories, and like to tell them to my friends. There are many things to be learned from these tales. Next time you are lost in the woods, this would be a good book to have with you ... give it a go, eh?

5 out of 5 stars Awsome book on Alaskan Indian Mythology.......2000-04-28

This book is awsome! Beck does a wonderful job retelling the legends of Tlingit and Haida mythology. This book is excellent if you want/need to learn about the old Indian tales of southeast Alaska. I'd also highly recommend Beck's other book "Hero's & Heroines in Tlingit-Haida Legend"

4 out of 5 stars Good source of hard-to-find legends.......2000-03-29

Mary Giraudo Beck did an admirable job of gathering information that has not been readily available to readers for several decades. The Tlingit and Haida cultures are quite fascinating, and their Kushtaka (and some other) legends are very well elaborated here. This book is a must-read for anyone interested in Northwest Coast cultures, or in the relation of wildlife to native peoples. It is a very engaging, yet quite easy read, that nevertheless loads the reader with solid research.

4 out of 5 stars Vampires from another dimension.......2005-09-25

In this fantasy/romance, Oida Crozier has written a story that turns upside down (or inside out) the legend of the vampire. Kyril, a beautiful bloodsucker, comes to Earth from another dimension to renew acquiantance with human Kathryn and to do research on AIDS, which threatens her world as well as ours. This story gives Crozier a chance to compare Earth culture with the much older and more sophisticated culture of the vampire world and, for the most part, to find Earth culture wanting. The ethical problem of one race of people preying on another is alluded to but not resolved. This book requires a sequel.

4 out of 5 stars Not your typical vampire novel.......2002-07-12

Shadows After Dark is the story of women living in two different dimensions, on two different planets, whose lives cross and make connections. Kyril comes to Earth to discover what the strange illness is that killed her lover on her home planet. She is sure that it is something that was brought back from a previous visit. She has also been infatuated with a woman she met on a previous trip, Kathryn, who is searching for a soul mate and has been fixated on Kyril for two years after a brief meeting in a lesbian bar. What Kyril will quickly discover is that her deceased mate contracted AIDS. This is a special threat to Kyril's homeworld since all of the people there are vampires. It turns out that her people have been crossing the dimensional time line to live on Earth, and yes, occasionally feed off of its people, for centuries. Kathryn ironically is an AIDS researcher who is trying to find the cause and cure of this epidemic on her own planet. The book is about how these two join forces, become lovers and try to overcome some significant cultural differences to be with each other. It's an interesting book, but not one for those who are looking for creatures of the night who are running around draining humans and sleeping in coffins during the day. It's sort of a blend of scifi, vampirism, lesbian romance, coming together of different cultures and social awareness lecture all in one book. It's a good first novel for Crozier and the ending is open ended enough that, if she wants to, she could pick up this pair in a later book.

the book can not be summed up in a review it is so amazing that it is beyond words. The only way to get the atmospheric feeling that pertrudes from this book is to read it yourself. Ethereal, otherworldly and punctuated by Miran Kim's mysterious paintings.

                                      Book Description

Though the paradigm of modernist progression has been challenged on many fronts, Erasmus and other sixteenth-century figures are still commonly viewed as people who led the transition from a religious Middle Ages to a more godless modern era. By analyzing the lives, work, and correspondence of Erasmus, Thomas More, Margaret More Roper, Reginald Pole, Gasparo Contarini, and Vittoria Colonna, this book demonstrates how these Catholic men and women of letters created a distinctive kind of religious community rooted in friendship and spiritualized scholarship.

I will keep it short and sweet: The photos are inspiring, the recipes are beautiful and easy to achieve but best of all, I found that EVERY page had at least one recipe that I wanted to try out.

                                            Book Description

The detailed, step-by-step instructions in this delightful book make it possible to turn an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper into a finely trimmed glider that will fly further, faster, and straighter than the average paper plane. Beginning with the basic paper dart, Edmond Hui provides instructions for such designs as:

                                            -the cockpit
                                            -the underfold
                                            -the donkey
                                            -the bomber
                                            -the headscarf
                                            -the paperang
                                            -and more.

Once you've mastered the designs in this book, you can go on to create your own using Dr. Hui's clear, illustrated explanations of aerodynamic theory. Paper plane enthusiasts will find tips on flying the planes in competitions, along with a useful glossary. Whether you've never made a paper plane or are looking for ways to improve your designs, Amazing Paper Planes will bring hours of enjoyment.

4 out of 5 stars Theory and detail in black and white........2001-05-06

The author, Edmond Hui is a former hang gliding instructor, so he brings his expertise to the reader in his book about flying paper airplanes. He points out that almost anyone can make a paper airplane, but that the more you put into them, the better they will fly. I guess that's true about anything. He provides general instructions for crafting paper airplanes, and then takes the hobbyist to more advanced levels. Illustrations are in black and white but are quite detailed yet simple. He illustrates the concepts required for flight, and then provides the reader with more detailed projects. For anyone into paper airplanes, this book is a definite asset.

                                            3 out of 5 stars Fairly Good........1997-10-06

I was hoping for more airplanes. They only have around 10 in the whole book. Half of the book is telling how planes fly and the best way to fly the planes in the book. If you are looking for a teaching aid then it's probably a good book. If you are just interested in folding paper airplanes, then it might not be the best book for you, but it does have a couple of planes that I had never seen before.

4 out of 5 stars Easy enough for a child, tough enough for a Daddy........1997-06-12

As a father of a 9 and 7 year old, I knew it was just a matter of time before I would be called upon to make a paper plane. If you're like me, you'll need this book. The book gives step-by-step instructions which my children easily understood. It also gave theory, suggestions, and hints which helped me to make the more complicated planes. This is a good one for you or your kids.

                                                Book Description

There are a variety of soft proofing options for contract color and markup available to printers, service bureaus, and anyone who must approve content. Utilizing soft proofing in the production workflow offers benefits from reduced materials and courier costs to tracking customer comments for billing purposes. Today, many soft proofing systems for markup have been integrated with systems designed to display contract color. This GATF Research and Technology Report looks at a number of systems for markup, as well as the enabling technologies and applications for contract color soft proofing, available today.

Looking at available markup options, the study examines the applications of each system as well as delivery methods (whether they are browser-based, applications-based, a service, or a software package), as well as the features and limitations of each. In examining the contract color side, the study looked at:

o The ability to manage multiple displays and ensure color accuracy between devices o A measurable comparison to the press sheet o Visual assessment as judged by representatives from the printing community

This report presents the protocol of the study, control images, readings for each system, and questionnaire results in order to provide an overview of a variety of soft proofing options currently available.

"Walk to Where the Butterflies Are" is an amazing journal that combines a woman's search for healing after she is diagnosed with leukemia and a series of remarkable messages she receives as they are channeled from a nonplanetary committee through a friend of hers.

Joy Jones learns she has cancer in late 1983, and takes the suggestion of her doctor that she begin a journal to help her deal with the emotional aspects of fighting the disease. Along with writing about her feelings and her search for a healing lifestyle, she shares her thoughts and emotions with her good friend, Rodney McKeever. After about three months, Rod begins to receive mental messages relating to Joy's struggle to live life as fully as possible in the shadow of cancer. He begins by writing down what he hears in his mind, but rapidly progresses to speaking the messages directly to Joy. Since both Rod and Joy know how to write and read Gregg shorthand, Joy can easily write down every "sharing", as they choose to call each message, as it is spoken.

The messages, which continued for eight years, are jam-packed with detailed information for all people who are looking for ways to cope with the difficulties of life on planet Earth, not only people who have a life-threatening disease. Some of the topics covered in the sharings are how to direct your energy for maximum physical and emotional health, the nature of nonplanetary life, the reason for and value of planetary life, and the identity of the members of the committee who speak through Rodney McKeever.

"Walk to Where the Butterflies Are" is a must read book for anyone who is curious about the reasons we have chosen to be conscious, living beings on this planet. It is structured in journal form, making it easy to read and digest one entry at a time. The committee members speak in beautiful, easy-to-understand language, and I felt a sense of calm and peace as I read each journal entry, as if the healing messages in the book were meant not just for Joy but for anyone who heard or read them. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed.
