This book provides a lot of good information for any wedding photographer. I especially liked the authors examples of exotic lenses and films.

There are many very fine photographs throughout this book. The contributers mainly excell in the area of wedding photojournalism. Clever camera angles and shooting techniques abound. The section on capturing the "details" of the wedding was very well done. Good book!

I wish I had know how horrible this book was before I bought it! A major waste of money! Out of all the examples of "good" photography there was maybe one actually "good" photograph in the whole book. The information is just plane NOT informative. The cover of this book should be a dead giveaway to the fact the pictures inside aren't very good and the advice is mediocre, at best. Why did they select a picture where the groom's face has a blotch on it from the rice or whatever is being thrown? The book is short on meaty advice, it is definitely for beginners. There's not a whole lot of creative images to draw ideas from. Photographers looking to get instruction on lighting, posing and other techniques for making people look good won't find it here. I don't care how "creative" you are with your equipment, film, filters and other gimmicks, the bottom line in wedding photography is you got to make people look good or they aren't going to pay for your work. This book consistently shows how to make people look bad, grotesque, stupid ... in the name of "creativity." It also suffers from the fact the color images were converted to black-and-white and poorly converted. The highlights are blown out and many are contrasty. I also was surprised at how many of the pictures were just plain out of focus or blurry. I would have thrown away many of the shots in this book. The text is set in a big font to make it look like your are getting lots of information, when you're really getting very basic stuff.
There are better books out there on wedding photography, but in my opinion the best way to learn it is with a video series. If you are serious about learning wedding photography, check out the David Ziser video series. They are meaty and will give you the tools you need to produce portraits that LOOK GOOD. I am disappointed that Amazon would recommend this book ... it's one of the worst I've seen on the subject. It's also outdated. Digital is taking over wedding photography, and it talks about digital as if it is still in the distant future.

Good info Book for More Artistic Wedding Photogs.......2001-01-07

Overall this is very good book for the artistic/creative type of photographer who wants to learn more about wedding photography that is more creative, photojournalistic or artistic than the traditional posed method that is portrayed in other books (in fact, other than the differing style, this book is VERY similar to Steve Sint's or George Schuab's wedding photography books).

David Arndt does a pretty good job of explaining different approaches to weddings. If you want to learn a more creative, non-traditional approach to wedding photography, this is a great book to get you started.

Emphasis on CREATIVITY in wedding photography.......2000-06-20

As a wedding coordinator, I love to work with photographers that use creative verses traditional photography. Anyone can do the same 'set' shot. This book explores the endless possiblities of depth when a photographer allows his creative side to flow. Even without the narrative explanation given by Arndt, the pictures tell the story...and that should be the focus of all wedding photography.

Not even worth the $1.79 I spent.......2007-08-11

I noticed when first starting this review that the price is now $8.95 instead of the $1.79 I paid. I purchased this item as a 'filler' so as to receive free shipping. We have lots of hummingbirds and I thought this would be the perfect size to hang inconspicuously off of one of our windows. It is indeed mini - about 3"Hx1"W. That part I didn't mind. It was the fact that the bottom doesn't hold the water after you fill it up and turn it back upright. It slowly drips down the side of your window, onto the sill, where it can gather and can attract another creature that loves sugar water - ANTS. Disappointed, but now a bit relieved I didn't have to pay the higher price for nothing more than an Ant Smorgasbord. (Note: I never have really high expectations for filler items, so even though I wasn't expecting a super high quality item, I was expecting a functioning one.)

A fun read but many of the solutions can only be solved if you have a very expanded knowledge of everything, such as the natural habits of cows and turtles, etc. Also, many of the solutions are "probable" and not clear black and white solutions. It is still easy reading and worth the time.

I love books like this, even though I can very rarely solve the mysteries. What I like about the books in this series is that unlike some mysteries, where key elements aren't revealed, the stories give you all the information you need to solve them. This is a great book for anyone who is a fan of mysteries, short stories, or both.

This is a very nice collection of stories, fantasy and SF, that were previously published in small press magazines or books (I'm not familiar with some of the names). I gave it four stars cause I thought the last story could have been shorter/tighter and one other story, Transfer Student didn't appeal to me. All of the stories are well written and the author has paid attention to spelling, grammar and editing.

I borrowed this from the library. I wish I'd bought it because it's a book with stories that can be re-read-a keeper. I really liked the fantasy stories and wish they'd been longer, or fleshed out into a book. That being said, the stories are complete on their own. I finished this is one day. It was a pleasure to read stories that caught the attention and kept you wanting more. I'm now looking for her other book, CRYSTAL THRONE, I hope its as good.

Great fantasy collection.......2003-12-01

This sixteen story collection introduces readers to a fabulous fantasy author who effortlessly creates realms so magical that readers will finish AGENTS AND ADEPTS in one sitting (this reviewer broke her rule of a tale or two a day over a couple of weeks). Each contribution insures that characters, including mythological and personification of planets and animals, seem very genuine. An added bonus is that several entries provide a delightful glimpse into the wizard world of the CRYSTAL THRONE. If the quality of these short stories is any indication of the novel, this reviewer will compete with other readers to obtain a copy.

Using humor that is rarely seen in the typical save the world or die genre, Kathryn Sullivan furbishes a wonderful book that makes fantasy seem real, fun to read, and entertaining. Just set aside a few hours because the exploits of the twins and others will make the audience complete in one delightfully entertaining sitting. Ms. Sullivan is an adept (and I am not her agent) worth reading.

it deffinatley helped me out however I found that alot of the information and phrases are used over and over again through out the boook which made it boring to read . I baught this book because its foreworded by Jon Kinn but it did not have his style. I also did not like the cheap white paper its printed on , it feels like a cheap copy that somone made at home with a photocopy mahcine.

A life-changing book.......2007-06-27

Along with Jon Kabat-Zinn's Full Catastrophe Living, this is an indispensable book for anyone who suffers from GAD, SAD, or panic disorder. This is compassionate, pragmatic, deep therapy that has great power on its own and can be a great supplement to working with a therapist. There's strong current science behind it, and 2500 years of Buddhist practice. Very simply, if you learn to focus in the present you won't worry so much about the future, or beat yourself up about the past.

This book is wonderful. I am only half way through, but it already deserves five stars. It is a great book if you take your time and do the work and pratice the "mindfulness". It can and will change your life. I have noticed during a very unexpected stressful day recently, that several times the word mindfulness popped into my head and I just centered myself in the moment instead of thinking of how behind I was and how mucy more I had to do that day. And at that point, I hadn't even really learned what mindfulness meant. Give this book a try. I don't think you'll be sorry.

Mindfulness is happiness. If you are not appreciating the present moment, you are not fully alive. This great book helped me understand what it really means to be mindful. It shows us how to be more mindful in our everyday lives by approaching life in a totally new way. I highly recommend this excellent book! If you like these positive life-changing books, you might also like "The Ever-Transcending Spirit" by Toru Sato. This is another fantastic book that has changed my life! It looks at things from more of a relationship perspective but it is completely outstanding! This very special book puts your life into perspective and I guarantee that it will also improve all of your relationships dramatically! Have fun!

Great book with beautiful pictures.......2005-12-22

I do not own a lovebird and had never owned any pet bird at all, but I had received this book as a gift and had read it several times since then! Some of the pictures are beautiful and high in quality, and if I had a lovebird, this book would have all the information I would need, from where to buy a lovebird, to breeding and hand-feeding babies. The endearing traits of lovebirds described in the book, such as an "affectionate lovebird [hiding] in it's human's clothes or underneath long hair" has definitely made me want to own a lovebird as soon as it becomes possible for me.

I've had lovebirds for a few years, and I'm always looking for new information about them. This book is one of the best I've found. The text is clear and the advice is easy to put into practice. The photos are pretty as well. I highly recommend it.

A fascinating book for collectors.......1999-06-09

Written from the point of view of the collector this book gives an excellent historical review of combs and hair ornaments of all types and styles. Not only precious stone and diamond items are covered but those made from more humble and available materials like turtle-shell, ivory, coral and gilt metal. The author goes into a great deal of detail about social facts, history and etiquette which lay behind the development of different styles of ornaments. There is also information on collecting and looking after these ornaments.

If the Lord's Willing is a great book that takes you along the journey of a poor family trying to make it in the South from the 1920s.It takes you along for the good times and bad times of being in a large family. Through the book, the author is able to describe her struggles, and she takes you along for the ride.
