Now republished in a new edition with a biographical preface about author Mary Eastman and featuring the quality painted landscapes of the original reproduced in color, Dahcotah Or, Life And Legends Of The Sioux retains its unique keen insight and attention to detail that distinguished it over one hundred and fifty years ago. Though Dahcotah is not an entirely unbiased account - for one thing, the author was a devout Christian who wished to see all Native Americans converted to her religion - yet it is written with empathy and sorrow for the sufferings of the Dahcotah people, retold in individual stories as well as broad descriptions, and deserves its reputation as a frontier classic.

Excellent, authentic non-fictional story book on Indian life.......1999-01-19

I found this book extremely interesting, as it is written by Mary Henderson Eastman, who actually got to know the Native Americans who lived near Fort Snelling, where Mary's Husband, Seth Eastman, was stationed. I was completely engulfed by her stories, and sometimes felt as if I were right there with her, experiencing first hand what these Native Americans were like and how they lived. I applaud the Afton Historical Society Press for their efforts in preserving our country's history, and for putting a small part of that history in such a beautiful book--lovely paper, and a stunning dust jacket. Anyone who enjoys history, or just a good story, should DEFINITELY buy this book!!

the difinative source book.......2000-06-24

This book is great not only for someone who is just getting started in decorating but, also for the professional as a referance. It is broken down into six basic catagories; Style guide, Fabrics. Wallpapers, Paints and Finishes, Tiles, and Flooring. Judith Miller does an excellent job of giving a wealth of information about not only different periods but also what textiles lend themselves to these periods. I was not to impressed with the paints and finishes section however. I really liked the organization by image (ie fabrics with flowers) and style period rather than fabric type or colors. The variety is amazing. The best part of the book is that she gives you the info to find all of the textiles! Including the maker, if other colors are available, and estimated price. This is great, other style books generally do not give you half of the wealth of information that is book does. I couldn't wait to get started.

The most beautiful collection of color photographs of the Angkor Wat complex that I have seen. The accompanying narrative is thorough and places the images in an understandable perspective. Anyone planning to visit Angkor will want to review "Angkor: The Hidden Glories" first. Those who see this book will be pleased to find that the trip is easily made in comfort these days, unlike the days of the PRK era when Warner made this great photo survey.

If you ever have a burning desire to start a franchise, then this book should be very beneficial. Though some of the information given, particularly that which concerns government funding, is out-dated a good bit of the information is general enough to useful. Possible even very useful. I know I found it to be very informative and I places it approximated interesting.
It starts you off with a bit of propaganda if you will. I rips through the advantages of owning a franchise rather than going all out as an entrepreneur. Although it does promote entrepreneurship over settling for a middle of the road job with some big company.
The majority of the book is devoted to setting up a Business Finance Plan. It goes into some detail about what you should research, what priorities should be given to what, formulas on how to produce certain information, and a way of organizing it all.
The end of the book deals with the rest of the fund application process as well as the pros and cons of different types of funding.
Though it was no picnic, as I sure it wasn't intended to be, it was fairly easy to understand as it was concise and to the point. The information was good, and useful. The only real complaint I have, though it is of little validity, is: once you own this franchise then what? Then again that really wasn't the topic of the book.

The structure of this book was absolutely awful. The content even worse. This book has no clear storyline and jumps from pictures to uninspired text. It is mostly pictures, as if intended for a 1st grader. In summary, this book offers nothing of value.
