Book Description
From Nora Roberts, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of
The Villa and
Carolina Moon, comes a classic tale — a searing novel of twisted passion and lethal cunning, available in hardcover for the first time.
Superstar mystery novelist Grace McCabe needs to unwind after a grueling book tour, and visiting her sister, whom she hasn't seen in months, seems the perfect solution. But Grace is surprised to find the fastidious Kathleen living in a grungy Washington, D.C., neighborhood. Kathleen, reeling from a bitter divorce and the loss of her son, is saving every penny of her teacher's salary to hire a hotshot lawyer for a custody battle.
Then Grace discovers that Kathleen is boosting her income with an unlikely profession: as an at-home phone-sex operator. Known as Desiree to the clients of Fantasy, Inc., Kathleen is living life on the edge. Yet how dangerous could it really be? With the ironclad anonymity the agency guarantees its employees, could anyone ever track her down?
Grace finds out one cherry-blossom-scented night when she comes home to find her sister dead, strangled with the cord of her "special" phone. Suddenly Grace's life turns into a scene from one of her own books — the horror, the tight-lipped police, the shattered survivor. Only this time the survivor is Grace herself.
But she isn't waiting around for the police to catch up with the killer. Instead she creates a daring trap to lure the killer to her. Her plan goes against every coolheaded instinct of Detective Ed Jackson, the lead investigator on the case. He's read all of Grace's books and might have been the perfect consultant for the one she's working on, though in this real-life murder, she's the last complication he needs.
He's determined to keep Grace out of harm's way, but it's too late. Her trap has already worked. She has aroused the attention of a brilliant madman, and now nothing may be able to protect her from the murderous lust that drives this killer down a path of ecstasy laced with death.
From the Hardcover edition.

Entertaining Read.......2007-09-24
I just finished both Sacred Sins and Brazen Virtue, its sequel. I'm not sure which book I liked best. I thought they were both well written and good reads. I realize these are older books but hate it that Nora Roberts has her characters smoke so much. YUK! I wasn't sure the police would allow the women from both stories to put themselves in harm way to catch a serial killer. Okay it's fiction. Also I thought where there were serial killings the FBI is usually brought in but the local police force was handling it all. I liked both Ben and Ed. I didn't like Grace or Tess as much. I felt both characters always tried to upstage the men in the stories I'm all for independent women and etc but felt like it was over done. Here you have all these professional law enforcement and in both cases, the female lead in the story brings down the killer? Okay, whatever! I would also have liked a little more to the endings of the stories. Ben and Tess's story moves on into Brazen Virtue but Ed and Grace's story just ends as soon as the killer is bought down. I would have liked another chapter or epilogue wrapping things up better. Even though there were some things I didn't like about both books, they were still good reads.
another great book by Nora Roberts.......2007-08-29
Just like the rest of Nora Robert's books she has found a way to bring her stories to life. I have never read a Nora Robert's book that I did not like.
Another Best by Roberts.......2007-05-12
I loved this book because it involved murder, mystery and sex. My favorite. It has a lot of suspence which makes it unable to put down. I am a big Roberts fan, so I enjoy pretty much anything she writes. This is one of the very good ones. You will enjoy.
The sequel to Sacred Sins.......2007-02-06
While not quite as catching as Sacred Sins, this book was a pretty entertaining read. Being a romance buff, it was kind of hard to get into the idea of a big, mountain type man with red hair and a red beard being the hero but it was fun to see Ben come back with Tess and he was just as witty as ever. However, Grace and Ed made an fun enough couple, the storyline was interesting but like Sacred Sins, the ending didn't have any bang. Definitely worth a read, especially if you enjoyed the first one.
Par for the course.......2006-10-21
As usual, Nora Roberts has an interesting plot, one that keeps a reader's attention from start to finish. This alone makes her worthwhile, as most novelists today have dead spaces and plot padding that detract from the work. Her sense of place is remarkable. It is almost her trademark. One can picture exactly where the action is taking place. Her characters are well drawn, and their dialogue feels right.
If I have one reservation, it is with the R rated sex scenes. Read one in any of her books, and unfortunately you've read them all. A very attractive woman, about 28-33, is hot for a muscular chap who smells good. They fall into bed like cats in the alley, clawing and yowling with what one assumes is pleasure and passion. Perhaps there are readers who enjoy these scenes, who look forward to them eagerly, who just cannot do without them. But they are cloying. They are annoying, since they interrupt the plot action.
Crime fiction usually has the detective tracking clues and the reader guessing who is the criminal. Not so here at all. We know the rapist/murderer's name from the start. In fact, we see some of the action through his eyes. As in Columbo, the suspense is in how the perp will be caught. We know he will be, of course. And we know the main characters will survive intact. Given all this, there is still considerable suspense.
This would be a 5-star book--except for the formula and unnecessary sex scenes. I'd like to see Ms. Roberts write one book without them.

"If I'm not the Slayer, I mean...what do I have to offer?"
-- Buffy Summers, "Helpless"
Only in Sunnydale could a new watcher be a harbinger of badness, and only the Hellmouth could offer refuge for a lovelorn vampire. But as Cordelia Chase learns when she wishes otherwise, life in Sunnydale could be a lot worse. Like, if Buffy the Vampire Slayer had never come to town, for example. Buffy has saved her friends -- heck, she's saved the world -- more than once, and even those loath to face the reality of things-that-go-bump-in-the-night are thankful. But Buffy's about to learn one of her most difficult lessons yet: how to beat the baddies as just a "regular girl...."
Now, don't miss a word as Angel's return is uncovered by the Scoobies, and he makes peace with his inner demons, and as Willow and Xander, respectively, grapple with their feelings for one another as well as their place among the group. Complete with production notes, inside jokes, cut dialogue, and more, these scripts will slay you!
Dig into: "Revelations," "Lovers Walk," "The Wish," "Amends," "Gingerbread," "Helpless," and "The Zeppo."

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" scripts: Season 3, Episodes 7-12.......2003-09-18
"Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Script Book, Season Three, Volume 2" gives us episodes 7-12 from the senior year at Sunnydale High School for Buffy and the Scoobies. This is the eighth volume of scripts available to date, the rest dealing with the previous two seasons and the "Once More With Feeling" musical episode of "BtVS." The attraction here for those who are trying to carrying on now Joss Whedon's legions of fans are down to watching "Angel" and waiting for Buffy to make a guest appearance is that these are the shooting scripts for these six episodes. You can look for typos and other mistooks that they failed to corrupt, but the attraction is getting dialogue and even full scenes that were cut before the final version was broadcast on the WB (the idea of deleted scenes out there is as maddening as the smell of fresh blood would be to newly risen vamp). I used to suggest that you could read along with these scripts while you watched the episodes on DVD, but I think most of us know the episodes so well by now that we can easily pick up on what was added, omitted or alterred in the final aired version (e.g., the tree sellers in "Amends," p. 216). Still, you have to admit it is a lot easier to read the script this way than going frame by frame when one of them is available on the DVDs. But even when there are not changes you get Joss Whedon's wacky stage directions, a type of humor that has obviously rubbed off on some of the other writers as well (e.g., "Anya looks deeply perplexed," page 165).
Included in this second volume of Season Three scripts are: "Revelations" by Douglas Petrie, "Lovers Walk" by Dan Vebber, "The Wish" by Marti Noxon, "Amends" by Joss Whedon, "Gingerbread" by Jane Espenson (story by Espenson and Thania St. John), and "Helpless" (previously "18") by David Fury. These half-dozen episodes bring us up to the point where Giles is fired by the Watcher's Council, which means in Volume 3 we will see means the next volume (which should have the next five episodes) will begin Faith's slide toward becoming a rouge slayer. Interesting to note that "Amends" which was the episode submitted by Whedon for Emmy consideration from Season Three, and "Helpless," are both entirely "WHITE" shooting drafts: no revisions as in no "BLUE" pages, no "PINK" pages (I know, you cannot tell by the color of the pages in this book, but they are labeled at the top so you can see what was revised and hazard your guesses as to why). This latest volume reaffirms that "BtVS" was rich series where every script has a few choice morsels on which we can subsist while we wallow in despair that the show is now part of cult television history.

Book Description
Imaginings inaugurates an ambitious three-book series featuring the best stories that explore key imaginative concepts in the genre and their later literary permutations. The theme in this initial entry is the power of mythology in human life through the centuries. Authors include Robert Silverberg, whose "After the Myths Went Home" shows the disastrous results of a visit by Greek gods and goddesses to a future society; Algernon Blackwood, with "The Touch of Pan," about an elitist who discovers an alternate world of total honesty; and many more. Period illustrations show the reader how previous generations saw their imaginary worlds of dream and future, and entertaining introductions offer context. Contributors include Euripides, John Crowley, Oskar Kokoschka, Oliver Onions, Robert W. Chambers, and others.
Book Description
Since its initial publication, this far-reaching reference has provided professionals and victims of abuse with guidance on everything from indicators of an abusive relationship to domestic violence legislation, from anti-burnout tips for helpers to advice on leaving an abusive partner. This updated edition addresses new research and programs, adding information on date rape drugs, cyber-stalking, pregnancy and domestic violence, and more. Current controversial social and legal issues are also covered, and two new chapters devote attention to domestic violence in the military and to the challenging — and rewarding — role of those who work with battered women and their children.
Customer Reviews:
Women are safer at night in the park than in their own homes........2006-04-05
If you get only one book about domestic violence, this should be the one. It is comprehensive, and well-written. As a training specialist, it was one of my main sources for writing a domestic violence prevention training program. Some of the material is a little dated because in most states including mine, women are now allowed to introduce their history of domestic abuse in court where it was not allowed in the past. That may be a partial explanation why women who have killed their domestic partners have spent an average of 15 years in jail. Men who killed their domestic partners have spent an average of 2 to 3 years.
What I find most useful from this book is the information about the myths surrounding domestic violence. Before I worked with a rape victim who helped me develop my training program, I held some of these myths which revealed my ignorance. The next thing that I found helpful were the traits of the abuser. These traits should be clear signals for all women who are currently dating. The traits of the victim are perhaps the saddest of all. Generally, she denies that it is even happening to her, and blames herself for it. She feels that if she does what he wants, that will bring back the real nice, affectionate, romantic man she once knew. What she fails to realize is that he was that way all along. He just didn't show it until he had complete control over his victim. Children from abusive environments also show a number of traits or behaviors and the author catologues them too. Children from these homes are six times more likely to commit suicide, and 1000x more likely to become abusers themselves.
I do hope the one reviewer here gets the help he needs. While men can certainly be in abusive relationships from their female partners, 95% of the cases are men abusing women. Domestic violence accounts for one out of four visits to the emergency room, and costs this country 1.8 billion dollars a year in medical costs. And yes, 834,000 men per year are abused by their domestic partners. This book does list a number of sources for protection for men and women. It also recognizes women as abusers too. That would have been apparent by reading the book.
If you need help, confide in only a couple of faithful and loyal friends. Contact the police, not family. Get a court order of protection (or peace). Avoid marriage counseling; it makes matters worse, not better. The batterer must get the counseling alone. Relocate if necessary.
Remember, in the batterer's eyes you are only property.
When Violence Begins at Home: A Comprehensive Guide to Understanding and Ending Domestic Abuse.......2005-09-26
This book is very helpful. Its give you more insight to what actually happens and what you can do to help. I like the chapter that gives the historical aspects of domestic abuse. Overall it is a good book.
The Abuse of 600,000+ people per year!.......2004-10-07
55% of all domestic violence is caused by women not men. This book only seperates and promotes discrimination against men. Both men and women are abused and should be treated the same. This problem will only start to be solved when, all Shelters are open to men and women, not just "the weaker sex." Everyone should care about this problem because, ALL VICTIMS ENd UP IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM WITHOUT HEALTH INSURANCE which means YOU PAY FOR THEIR CARE!
Unerstanding and Getting Help.......2004-05-12
If you are reading this review, it is clear you are seeking help. This book serves as a rather complete guide to hear you, understand your situation and a means to offer you help. Do not just read about the help you need....get the help you need.
You do not want to suffer the loss of your children's respect and damage to their adult lives, your self respect or your life from possible death. Do something for yourself now...only you can do it...with God's Help. Here is some help.

Very good book for culinary students.......2003-10-11
I used this book as a reference for my hot foods classes in culinary school and found it to be quite helpful. It was very descriptive and helped me to get an edge in the kitchen. For my baking classes I used the following which were just great:
Study Guide for Baking: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations by Melissa Heilman
Study Guide for Advanced Baking: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations by Melissa Heilman
These study guide proved to have similar type questions that I encountered on my culinary exams in baking and advanced baking class. Various chefs had recommended me these 3 books, I guess they were right since I got excellent marks on my tests.

Wonderful Researchers' Tool!.......2007-08-06
This volume of tablecloth examples is absolutely necessary for anyone wishing to dig deeper into collecting table linens. The authors share many still-tagged tablecloths, give tips on research, and advise readers on cleaning and storage. Photography is clear and bright, narrative is readable and informative.
At Long Last!.......2006-03-23
What a wonderful surprise I had as I reviewed the vintage tablecloths and were so happy to see so many of my Dad's designs and also see that he was mentioned in many of them. This is the first book I have that recognizes John Madsen as the designer and holder of some patents (which I never knew about). My sister, brother and I have enjoyed the thrill of looking and purchasing his tablecloths and have a nice selection - many of which we remember seeing him work on. This book has helped us so much in recognizing his work and learning more about Wilendure who he worked for. We thank Yvonne Barineau for providing this information in our search. The pictures are clear, and the information provided is wonderful. Thank you.......Sue Nilsen
Love this book!.......2004-08-23
Finally, a book based on facts and not "educated" guesses. A wonderful reference guide with beautiful pictures of tablecloths that are to die for. This book has helped me identify many cloths in my own collection and get an idea of their true value. Great work!
FINALLY...A Top Rate Guide for Print Tablecloth Lovers!!!!.......2004-08-08
I was so thrilled when this book arrived to see not only BEAUTIFUL color photos, but accurate facts. The manufacturer section is the most concrete information yet published...it was a huge help in dating my own collection. And did I mention the GORGEOUS pictures???? This book is tops!
