The pleasures of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and a beautiful woman named Beth Dwyer look very good to burned-out intelligence agent Steve Decker. But beneath the lovely surfaces of both lie darkness and danger--which is why we read this kind of book in the first place, right? David Morrell pulls it off as smoothly as anyone in the genre, working within that frame where our expectations of action and surprise live. His last book, Desperate Measures, is also available in paperback.

There's No Denying it, Morrell Books are Always a Great Way to Pass the Time.......2007-03-14
Extreme Denial isn't at the top of the list of Morrell's great work but it is still a very good and very enjoyable read. Morrell has written a similar main character to what he does with most of his work with Extreme Denial's main character Stephen Decker. If you enjoyed Mitch Coltrane (Double Image), Cavanaugh (The Protector) Malone (Burnt Sienna) or any of Morrell's other ex CIA, ex Special Forces characters which drive most of his novels then you'll really enjoy this novel as well.
In Extreme Denial CIA agent Stephen Decker has finally had enough when he is teamed up with Brian McKittrick, the incompetent bumbling son of former chairman of the National Security Council, for an antiterrorism assignment in Rome. Saving both the son's and father's lives they use extreme denial to blame everything on him. Seeing a story on a unique historic type of housing in Santa Fe New Mexico and with no other plans Decker decides he'll relocate there. When looking at a house Decker gets the idea his training in dealing with people will probably make him a decent real estate agent so convinces the women who wants to sell him an expensive house to throw in a trial job for himself to clench the deal. Soon he is highly successful, meets a new female client Beth who is very attractive and like he did has moved to Santa Fe to start a new life. With romance blossoming Decker finally believes he has reinvented his life for the better. When he starts to notice someone from his past life in the streets and his and Beth's bedroom enjoyment is interrupted by guys firing machine guns Decker knows someone or some people don't want him to move on with his life.
A great read, also check out Morrell's great reads First Blood, Burnt Sienna, The Protector, Double Image and Creepers as well!
Boilerplate Fiction.......2006-11-11
I picked up this book without really knowing anything about the author, and without really reading the book jacket description. It was ok, not great; readable, but not special. I found the entire plot to be a bit "over the top," and very predictable (and very forgettable). I won't rule out picking up another David Morrell book, but I also won't seek one out.
What a crock!.......2006-01-03
The author must have greased his palms before he churned out this pot-boiler. It was long-winded and predictable at every turn. Every major character was challenged merely to loom up out of the pages in two dimensions.
The World Of Intrigue in Government........2005-06-28
Moving from the streets of New York City to Santa Fe, New Mexico, "the land of the dancing sun," Steve is running for his very existence. He had been an anti-terrorist operative for U.S. until one of the covert missions went awry and he had to take full blame.
So he returns to his roots back in the land where Georgie O'Keefe painted all of those flower pictures and he could at last find peace. He found trouble with the love life offered to him and discovered that the stakes could be higher. He must discover the truth by all means. "I'm just making an observation," he is told by someone who was his enemy when the possibility of Beth being in on the deal to get rid of him.
He owns some restaurants for use as money-laundering for the mob and knew all those in the bedroom communities of New Jersey. He must clear his record and he must save Beth.
How many stars?.......2005-05-27
When you read a book and you can't keep it down.
When the book is easy and fast to read.
When you get involved in the story.
When you don't know whom to believe.
When you don't know how the book'll end till you read the last word of it.
And the most important. When you have a great time while reading it.
The book deserves just and only six stars.

Book Description
Despite a narrow escape from death during her last visit to Grand-mere's eighteenth-century villa, Chrissy de Medici returns to celebrate a quiet family Christmas, complete with the traditional food and customs of Provence. Her plan is to regain control of her struggling paper, Le Loup Garou, which she left in capable hands while she took a much-needed respite after her summer's adventures. But when a valuable fifteenth-century illuminated prayer book disappears from Grand-mere's room and her uncle's body is found dead in the orange grove, Chrissy is thrown into solving the mysteries. Hoping to vindicate the de Medici name and get the "scoop" for her paper, Chrissy joins forces with her irrepressible Grand-mere and medieval manuscript expert, Sister Felicity, visiting from Scholastica Abbey on Cape Cod. Claude Bizzard, the inspector from Paris who saved Chrissy's life once before, will be hard pressed to match the energy and expertise of this trio - but Chrissy can't shake the feeling that he might be another kind of match for her. Can Chrissy balance solving the mysteries, saving her paper and smoothing strained family relations without missing the joy of Christmas?

A thrilling Christmas holiday adventure.......2004-12-10
An entire season has passed since we last heard from Marie-Christine de Medici, the young American woman whose earlier visit to the French Riviera was quickly transformed from carefree vacation to murder investigation --- or rather, multiple-murder investigation. But that was over the summer, when Cannes and its environs likely would be crawling with bothersome criminals anyway. It's Christmas now, a time of peace and goodwill toward men, if you don't count the occasional man who turns up decidedly and deliberately dead.
Marie-Christine's holiday adventure begins quietly enough, with her parents and assorted other family members joining her at her Grand-mère's stately home in the Riviera town of Grasse not far from Cannes. Also invited to the celebration is Sister Felicity, a medieval manuscript expert from Scholastica Abbey on Cape Cod who proved instrumental in unraveling the summertime mystery. Given her presumed hotline to the Spirit --- and her memory of the harrowing events just four months earlier --- you might think she would reconsider this trip. But no. Sister Felicity is undaunted by the prospect of spending time once again with the unusual de Medicis and helping to guard a priceless illuminated manuscript that dates back to the 15th century.
You can probably tell where this is going, but that doesn't mean you won't enjoy the ride. Yes, the manuscript disappears, and yes, a dead body appears. But there seems to be no apparent connection between the body, which belongs to Chrissy's uncle, and the manuscript other than being under the same roof for a time, a roof that belongs, of course, to Grand-mère. And though the apparent victim is a family member, Chrissy's interest in the double mystery goes far beyond the personal. As the long-distance publisher of Grasse's local newspaper, Le Loup Garou, Chrissy has a professional interest in solving the crimes --- namely, a much-needed scoop that could breathe new life into the stagnant paper.
Adding a touch of romantic diversion is the appearance of Claude Bizzard, the Paris police inspector whom Grand-mère had earlier invited to spend Christmas with the family. Presumably, she's well aware that the man makes Chrissy weak in the knees, and equally presumably, she enjoys Chrissy's behavior when he's around more than she would ever admit. Bizzard lends his support to the investigation, which involves a fair amount of religious intrigue added to the theft and murder.
Mary-Jane Deeb handles the intricate plot with her usual skill, though I confess I found some of the background and conversations about the two manuscripts --- did I fail to mention there were two manuscripts? --- to be confusing. But I decided to disregard my confusion and get back to enjoying the story and its many references to culinary delights, taking place in France and all. Yes, Deeb knows her food and describes it well. Expect to salivate a time or two.
A CHRISTMAS MYSTERY IN PROVENCE is an entertaining book that would make a delightful gift for mystery lovers --- as well as readers like me who would buy pretty much anything with "Christmas mystery" in the title.

Enemy Ace flies on!.......2006-10-02
Kubert's graphics and Kanigher's stories continue to be compelling. This second volume is a collection of stories published during the late 60's and early 70's as Vietnam became an ongoing point of contention. Kanigher's story lines manage to be both compelling as to the times and yet maintain their basis in WW1 reality. The Enemy Ace series, as originally produced, wisely refused to politicize and in that alone made a strong humanistic statement. The Hammer of Hell flies on with all his personal demons and in the end, both he and the war itself are interwoven, intriguing protagonists.

ABC'S of prostate cancer.......2007-08-30
Reading this book has convinced me in the positive decision that I have made concerning the cancer.
Not the best at all and unnecessarily demoralizing in places.......2001-02-20
As the wife of a man just diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer, I found this book very disturbing because it seems to over-emphasize deaths and tragedies and not survivors in many places. For example, in the section on how prostate cancer impacts spouses and daughters, there were nine women's stories--five of whom had their men die of prostate cancer, two of whom had upsetting stories about advanced prostate cancer, and only two with men who had had locally confined prostate cancer and seemed to do alright. Since 13 percent of all men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and only 2-3 percent of all men die from it, this seemed to be a VERY VERY unbalanced treatment.
More than 80 percent of men who are diagnosed with prostate cancer DO NOT DIE FROM it according to my reading--but in this book more than half of the examples of the men in the women's lives did die! I was looking for people who had gone through what I can expect to go through and instead read A LOT about a minority who suffered horribly ("The last five years have been a whirlwind of anger, fear, uncertainty, indifference, anxiety and depression" from one. "My future was wiped out . . . Loss of income, lonliness, no companion, no best friend, no lover. Long, lonely evenings, days, weekends. . . Widow" as the CONCLUDING words of another.) This was not helpful to me. And the acocunts from survivors were not in-depth enough on the whole, though I did really like seeing all their names and faces--that in itself was reassuring. But there was only a scant paragraph from Bob Dole, for example.
The book is graphically VERY well done but not as informative overall as the prostate cancer books by either Dr. Walsh of Johns Hopkins or Dr. Loo or Cornell. Both of those gave me more facts, understanding and a more realistic understanding. The ABC's of Prostate Cancer seems designed to have people take prostate cancer seriously and get tested--which I'm all for. It is not the best book for those with early disease to read or even more advanced disease in my opinion since the in-depth profiles are not representative of the frequency and ditribution of prostate survivors. There is also not enough on diet and new treatments.
The finest book in its class.......1999-02-26
The ABCs of Prostate Cancer is simply the finest book in its class. It elegantly and cleanly takes the most difficult concepts and clearly and simply lays them out. The use of graphic is the best I've encountered in a popular medicine book. Dr. Oesterling's devotion to his own father, who had prostate cancer, is remarkable. This gives any prostate cancer patient a sharp and clear edge with the best presentation of the most up to date material yet. Nice Job!
Book Description
What could be more entertaining and magical than putting food into a cardboard box outdoors on a sunny day and taking it out fully cooked a few hours later? Solar cooking — a safe, simple cooking method using the sun’s rays as the sole heat source — has been known for centuries and can be done at least during the summer in just about any place where there’s sun.
In Cooking with Sunshine, Lorraine Anderson and Rick Palkovic provide everything you need to know to cook great sun-fueled meals. They describe how to build your own inexpensive solar cooker, explain how solar cooking works and its benefits over traditional methods, offer more than 100 tasty recipes emphasizing healthy ingredients, and suggest a month's worth of menu ideas.
Customer Reviews:
Least intimidating book on solar cooking! .......2007-10-07
This book is easy to read and use. The information is presented clearly and it is easy to understand. This book is a great source book to teach yourself solar cooking. It is also easy to include younger children. Older children could pick it up and teach themselves from reading it. The recipes are of a wide variety so there should be a favorite for just about everyone. It isn't too "new age" as some other books on this subject. Outlines food safety issues very well with easy to remember rules and suggestions for building your own solar cooker. Easy enough for a child to do.
Start Cooking with Sunshine!.......2007-10-04
I must say this book is a real gem. It is small but contains some good information. Half the book is information on solar cooking and it even tells you how to build two simple solar cookers from things you probably have around the house or can get cheap. The other half of the book contains recipes for cooking with your solar cooker. Excluding the recipes, the book can be read in a few hours at most. After which you will know enough to be able to build your own solar cooker and be cooking in no time. The book also gives sources for buying a cooker should you really want to do so.
I built a panel cooker in about an hour or two following the easy instructions. The next day I cooked a meal with it using a recipe I modified a bit to work with the cooker. It turned out better than I thought it would to be honest. I have cooked several dishes using the cooker now and everything has turned out great. I personally find the food to be of better quality than the typical high heat cooking usually done on stoves and ovens.
Most recipes can be adapted to be cooked with sunshine so you are not limited to what is provided in the book. As the book says a general rule is a conventional recipe will take about twice as long to cook in the solar cooker. I found this to be about true, though it might take just a little longer but doubling the time seems to be about right.
If you are interested in learning how to build a solar cooker and start cooking with one then I recommend getting this book. It keeps things pretty simple and easy while still giving you the information you need to start cooking good meals with free energy from the sun.
This is the reference I paid money for..........2007-08-06
I usually preview my books by borrowing them from the library to see if they are worth buying. This is one that I chose for my personal collection.
I also checked out "Cooking with the Sun" (by Halacy and Halacy), which had some good introductory information and interesting-looking recipes. However, as soon as I got to the list of supplies needed for actually building their solar oven (plywood, fiberglass insulation, 1/16" thick aluminum or iron sheets, double-strength window glass, etc.) I gave up. My tools are limited to hammers and screwdrivers, and I didn't even know what some of the required items were, much less what to do with them.
This book, by contrast, has wonderful, step-by-step, illustrated directions on how to make a solar oven (box cooker) using simple stuff I have at home (cardboard boxes, newspaper, aluminum foil, turkey oven-roasting bag, Elmer's glue, etc.). There are also simple-looking directions for making a reflective-panel cooker.
I love how this book caters to the average Joe (or Josephine) who wants to cook with solar but doesn't want to spend a bundle to get started. The book gives lots of recommendations for improvising inexpensive options in cookware, explaining what works best and what doesn't work so well (and why!). For example, two dark 9" cake pans held together with large binder clamps (those things used in offices to hold large quantities of paper together) can work just as well as an expensive enameled dutch oven.
How and Why?.......2007-06-08
Just picked up the book yesterday and read it from cover to cover last night. Great opening section about how solar cooking works. I haven't seen it explained more clearly anywhere else. Great explanations on how to build your own- two types. And the recipes look wonderful. I'll be trying many of them when I finish building mine.
yum!.......2006-06-15
You must try the Asparagus Pesto! By my calculations, a batch of this makes more and costs less than store-bought pesto. (Also less oily, if you wish.)

Good.......2007-09-23
Questo libro è utile per riconoscere un' arma quando viene vista in un documentario o in un film, le descrizioni sono un po' sintetiche e le foto di non grande qualità. Comunque considerato il prezzo di Amazon, per noi italiani si può acquistare...
Easy Reference for Gun Enthusiasts, but has many flaws about photo.......2006-12-19
This book contains some very useful and interesting information about current tactival small arms. However, it does have some significant flaws. This book is black and white but the photos are not good. Many photos (about 40%) in this book are unclear. I had saw these photos in internet. I think that these photos are just direct copies from internet. These photos are just printed by poor computer printer and no professional treatment.
Many books about small arm are in my collection, but this one is out. I wish it will be better in next edition.

great resource.......2006-03-04
if you like making 19th-century style applique, this is the book for you. even if you aren't interested in the 19th century style, there is a lot of good information on creating applique.
the author has analyzed the elements that give 19th century applique its charm and character. she offers many designs, her own and those of others, all of which are inspirational. there are almost(!) enough pictures of antique quilts.
her writing is enjoyable, and her suggestions and advice are based on a great deal of study and experience.
the photographs are excellent, and best of all, there are no 'decorator' views of the quilts--the kind that drape and arrange a quilt until you can't tell what the design is. the gallery is wonderful.
there are templates for the applique designs, but not for quilting patterns. the author offers a short paragraph on quilting and leaves the rest to the quilter. i think this is a plus, since it leaves more of the book for applique, which is what i wanted. i only wish space had not been wasted on a superficial quide to quilting. those pages could have been given to another wonderful pattern or more photos of quilts, and more complete instruction is available in the many fine books on the market for beginners.
definitely belongs in any quilter's library.
Lots of pictures.......2005-09-05
The author emphasizes that applique uniformity doesn't have to be perfect from block-to-block. I liked the section with directions on how to design your own applique patterns from foldling and cutting paper. The author often uses just her eye to place pattern pieces with beautiful results.

All Night Long... : The True Story of Bon Jovi.......2001-08-23
It's clear from this book that this guy cannot write. Bon Jovi are huge and have a huge story to tell. Can you tell it in 99 pages? Of course not. Where 'The Dirt' by Motley Crue is sublime, this book by Wall is ridiculous. There is no style to his writing. His words are far from exciting, and, are infact, boring. Clearly he has done this just for the money. Unless of course, he just can't write. I suspect he is a college grad who's pa works for the publishing company. You get no insight into the band here, and you learn nothing new. Motley Crue are much finer storytellers, and they are not even writers. (Yes I know the book was ghost written by journo Neil Strauss.) Save your money on this one. I have all the books on Bon Jovi, and this is the only one I'd say steer well clear of. It's just a shame I can't get my money back. Still, die hard Jovi fans will lap it up purely because it's about their fave band and they have to have all the stuff they can collect. But anyone with a brain will give up on this past page 12. Mick Wall, who is he? Get a life and learn to write, buddy! But please, no more rock bios! Leave it to the pro's, like Neil Strauss!

I CAN'T SEE..........2000-03-28
I can't see how a book with only 96 pages can cover all the aspects of the career of such a great, good and famous band as Bon Jovi, with already almost twenty years on the road. TO to that, it is necessary a book like Mick Wall wrote about Iron Maiden, called "RUN TO THE HILLS", with almost 300 pages filled with text (not photos).
All Hail the Great Bon Jovi.......2000-03-17
Do you love the Bon jovi as much as i do? Still get goose bumps when you hear Always or the beginning chords of Wanted? Or have you just discovered this great band and want to find out just what you've been missing all these years? Then this book is for you! It covers the everything from their slow but steady start in the bars of New Jersey until their record breaking days as one of the greatest live rock and roll bands ever! But read this book quick because with their new album CRUSH about to hit stores, in June I am quite sure the story is not over. And there will be a quite a few more bon jovi books to read in the not to distant future. But for now this is the best Bon jovi book out there.
A must for Bon Jovi fans!.......2000-03-08
I am a big Bon Jovi fan which made this book very interesting to me. It starts with Jon recording at the Power Station to the madness of Slippery When Wet and New Jersey, to the writing for the These Days album. It covers the trials and tribulations of the band that almost broke them apart and the counseling that brought them back together. Gives great insight to the Young Guns II album with the number one single Blaze of Glory. It is written in British style that makes it harder to read and understand at times but flows well. This is a must for all rock fans and especially fans of the best rock and roll band ever.
