Truly a gifted Author !!.......2007-09-23

This book was great Ms. Clark puts it down in her stories and I have to say this story was so real and full of action all the way to the end I can't wait to read the second book.I hope she does put out a second one to this one since it's left with a cliff hanger. You will love this as well as all of Wahida's books.Brianna is smart but gets hooked up in some crazy stuff you have to read it to see what I mean. Go and get this one.

Very hard to follow..........2007-07-16

After reading the "Thug" series, I expected this book to be just as interesting, but it wasn't. There were too many undeveloped characters in this book, and quite franky, just too many characters, period. About three quarters thru the book, you find out how the characters are intertwined. I still can't wait to read Wahida's next novel though.

fabulous amateur sleuth thriller .......2005-06-01

One year ago, Twin Cities businessman Ken Loy was driving while talking on a cell phone when his vehicle blindsided that of Valerie Fabian, killing her. Although the woman ran a stop sign, her spouse Minneapolis Times Register columnist Bob blamed Ken for not paying attention.

Ken remains shook up with the accident bringing him close to his two twin daughters raised by his ex-wife and whom he neglected previously. He rides his bike every evening to gain some relief, but this time he stops to check a construction site thinking he might buy a condo there. Someone arrives and executes him.

Valerie's brother Sonny informs Bob that he provided justice to their beloved's killer. A stunned Bob calls 911, but Sonny, feeling betrayed, kills him too.

Minneapolis Times Register restaurant critic Sophie Greenway learns that the victims who were murdered within an hour of one another were killed by the same gun. No one can figure out the motive that ties both homicides although the link to Valerie is obvious. Sophie cooks up a storm that does not match the recipe for murder that will shake her inner essence.

Readers will want to make reservations for this fabulous amateur sleuth thriller that provides strong twists that the reader will never see coming especially the ending that will blow away the audience. Sophie is the terrific main ingredient while the support cast provides depth to a darker than usual story line. Ellen Hart bakes a winner with her eighth Greenway culinary mystery.

Businessman Ken Loy loves bike riding. And if you have to die, as Loy does, then it's great to die doing something you love. Being shot between the eyes, however, is not so great. A half an hour later, Bob Fabian, the wealthy owner of the "Minneapolis Times Register" is also shot. Interestingly the two murdered men have a connection. A year earlier Loy broadsided Fabian's wife's car, killing her instantly. A lot of people see only a coincidence. Sophie Greenway, food critic, doesn't believe it for a minute, and she begins asking questions that might bring danger knocking on her own door.

Coupled with the murders, there is the relationship between Sophie and her high school sweetheart, Nathan Buckridge - and between Sophie and her husband Bram's daughter, Margie - and between Sophie and her husband Bram. It all makes for an intense and exciting read. But I do so wish a certain young woman would get her comeuppance. Perhaps in the next Sophie Greenway mystery that will happen. One can only hope.

We've tried over 20 of the recipes to date and have liked all but two of them. I like to try one new recipe out of this book each week. Some of my favorite recipes thus far are: Calico Beans, Hamburger Soup, Roast Pork with Red Cabbage and Apples, Chicken Breast with Sherry-Sour Cream Sauce, Buttermilk Baking Powder Biscuits, and Oatmeal Cherry Muffins. I like to cook, but do not often add to my collection of cookbooks. After borrowing this one from the library several times I finally decided it was worth owning. I highly recommend this cookbook; in my mind it ranks with Joy of Cooking for utility.

Great, Kid-Friendly Recipes.......2006-03-30

I got this book directly from the author after hearing her speak on nutrition for cancer patients. But although she also has a couple of cookbooks related to cancer, this book has great, simple dishes that the whole family loves. She has taken many "old favorites" and made them healthier, though no less tasty. My picky kids quickly found a number of favorites from this book, including Beef Stroganoff and Meatballs in Sour Cream Sauce. I also recommend Weihofen's "Moms Updated Quick Meals Recipe Box"; I was keeping my eyes out for that one and bought it here as soon as it was published (early 2006).

My very picky 10 year old daughter loves the Fettucini Alfredo! This cookbook is awesome and it is the one book that I refer to constantly. The children at her school loved the Peanut Butter Cornflake Nuggets. This book is awesome and I may have to buy another because the pages are starting to fall out from usage!

A must for any library..........2004-05-17

I am an avid cook and this is by far one of my favorite cookbooks and the one that I use more than any other. The recipes are quick and easy to prepare -- perfect for mid-week dinners. The ingredients are easy to find, and the recipes have been made healthier without sacrificing flavor. Our personal favorites are the hash brown casserole, apricot-glazed chicken, lemon bars, and porcupine meatballs. I highly recommend this book!

covers a wide range of different antiques and styles with a focus on the main artists of each style,descriptions,marks,and tips for what to look out for, but does not provide enough examples of the works of each artist or factory featured. good reading,well written,extensive and informative. the book contains a good number of selected designers and manufacturers as well as the different marks of many of them and that is very helpful. the author,Eric Knowles,is one of the leading experts in the field and you notice that as you read. it is a shame he does not put a value estimate by the photos.

A fine memoir.......2007-09-29

My own take on John Boorman is that he CAN be a fine film director and sometimes he is. He's been responsible for some of the very best films of the last 40 years (HELL IN THE PACIFIC, DELIVERANCE, HOPE AND GLORY) and some of the absolute worst as well (ZARDOZ and EXCALIBUR, anybody?). As a memoir writer, however, he's first-rate, and what emerges is an engaging chronicle of his life both in the movies and out of them. His descriptions of how he developed each of his movies is always fascinating, and he has a huge streak of compassion for the people he's encountered throughout his life that makes his stories about them revealing without being vindictive. Boorman has been a director who has been more than willing to fall on his face any number of times reaching for what he believes might be a special cinematic moment, and this wonderful book goes a long way towards explaining the whys and wherefores of those aspirations. It hasn't changed my opinion about ZARDOZ one bit, but I now find it a lot easier to give him a thumbs-up for taking the risk to make it. Recommended.

amazingly enjoyable.......2004-06-03

I found myself trapped in an airport beginning a longish flight and this book was the single semi-appealing book available; once I started reading I was again trapped by his self-deprecating and insightful wit. How difficult it must be to make a good movie if someone as thoughtful, intelligent and sensitive as this only succeeds a small part of the time.

An enjoyable book from the first with the added bonus of glimpses into the real lives of other artists and creators. I may be over-grateful because the book was much more than I expected or hoped - but I don't think so.

Lovely....and a bore.......2004-04-04

Although it begins with great lyrical promise, Boorman's memoir loses steam less than half way through and becomes a stale and plodding bore. I enjoyed the writing in description of his hope-and-glory childhood, and some wonderful stuff taken from the Emerald Forest diary, but otherwise I've rarely seen a Briton write such flat-footed prose. And I bought the book looking forward as much to the prose as to the stories Boorman might have to tell.

As for his stories, he has a few to tell, and you might enjoy them, but eventually they all begin to recount the disasters that seem to surround his filmmaking. I grew impatient with them, and with him. (Does he never learn from these things?) Further, unless you regard Lee Marvin with the same outsized fascination that Boorman does, you'll learn far, far more than you ever wanted to know about the man. It's too much.

I've always regarded Zardoz as shallow and sophomoric. Boorman's extended discussion of this film and its attendant off-screen disasters does nothing to raise my opinion. Boorman is, mostly, a would-be Deep Thinker. But "would-be" is the key and the film remains a silly embarrassment.

Boorman has written elsewhere about The Emerald forest, and he cheats the reader of this book out of a decent discussion of that film, particularly the critical and social response to it.

suburban boy.......2003-12-16

Boorman writes with great wit and humility about his career as a filmmaker, working his way up the ladder. He adds interesting stories about legends such as Lee marvin, Toshiro Mafuni, Neil Jordan, etc. He talks about the struggles of having his films made, and the fact that many filmakers ideas never make it to the screen. A very honest nad enlightening autobiography.
