The book is nicely printed and formatted and contains detailed well illustrated instructions for creating watercolor paintings by a unique method. The method is tedious and requires careful drawing and use of several layers of masking fluid. This is not the traditional approach to watercolor painting but Grastorf achieves excellent results.

Need patience.......2007-04-06

I have painted in watercolor over 20 years. The processes described in this book are valid, however, one must have endless patience to spend the amount of time required to complete a project as directed by this author.

Pouring LIght.......2007-03-21

I was recently introduced to the technique of pouring watercolors to get some fabulous looks. I took a one-day workshop, which is a great way to start. The book is a great way to continue. The author gives her instructions clearly with plenty of pictures of describe what is happening. I've reviewed it a couple of times already and feel better equipped to do my fourth or fifth painting now. I highly recommend this book for use at home.

Outstanding Workshop in a Book.......2006-04-19

If you want to grow as an artist and put some new "tools" in your watercolor know-how kit, this is the book for you. If you have never taken a workshop with Jean Grastorf or, even if you have, you owe it to yourself to buy this book and learn or reinforce her exciting and unusual method for achieving beautiful, luminous paintings. If you are expecting the average, ordinary same-old, same-old watercolor how-to book, you will be unexpectedly delighted and surprised with this volume. And when you see her work, so beautifully reproduced in this book, you will understand why Jean uses this technique to create her award-winning paintings.

Jean has done an outstanding job of demonstrating and explaining her method of pouring brilliant, glowing watercolors, and Northlight has done an outstanding job of setting up the book, complete with masking maps and other goodies that tell you exactly how to get from Point A to Point B to achieve the beautiful results possible only with this method. It Shouldn't Matter.......2007-03-08

I want to admit this right off... I have a very big bias about Richie Furay. I saw him perform live in Buffalo Springfield when I was in high school, live with Poco when I was in college and live at a church fellowship with my family when I was in my 40's. In other words, I am a big fan. And I will read just about anything about him written by just about anybody.

That said, I would be hard pressed to say which story impresses me most... his tales of being a music icon or the story of his acceptance of Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, which didn't lead to the instant rewards that so many "born again" Christians would lead you to believe is the result. The struggle to put back together a failed marriage by faith in the Lord and the story of dealing with a skeptical audience not ready for a Christian music legend is worth the purchase price. Pastor Furay's early emergence as a Christian songwriter predates the "Amy Grant" era by years and as Furay fought his own demons to bring his voice forward, his entire life was changed. But it took lots of time and lots of patience and lots of prayers.

I am not sure where I would catalogue this book if I owned a bookstore. It could fit in music, religion, inpsirational or self-improvement. The message is there for you to see. And Pastor Furay pulls no punches. Being a servant of the Lord, a husband, a father and a muse to the music industry is no easy row to hoe. But Furay's example of perseverance and faith makes this book a no brainer. It should be on your shelf and read multiple times. It is a story of faith, kindness and love that will reach those that understand... and hopefully those that are looking for an answer to life's huge complexities.

I have been a fan of Richie's since Buffalo Springfield and Poco. I was fortunate enough to correspond with him a few years ago and got a glimmer of the man. This book takes you with Richie on a wonderful ride, from folk to rock to country (always the pioneer)to his present position of Pastor, Calvery Chapel, Boulder, CO and a true child of God.

This may be a disappointment to your average rock fan (see John Einarson's book for that) but for a glimpse into Richie's life and work, this is absolutely a Wonder!!

Easy Interesting Reading.......2006-08-04

The book read quickly and was an interesting story of a full life. The writing was not poetic, but factual. I learned much about the folk scene and early roots of southern rock. The point of view was a bit self-centered and there appeared to be some pointed commentary. Overall, enjoyable.

I just opened my home daycare in April and wasn't sure what things I would need for year end taxes and didn't want to be surprised come January. Copeland's book goes step by step and gives good examples. He answered most of my questions just as I was beginning to ask them! Very good book.

Whether you're new to child care or been in it a while, I guarantee this book will teach you a lot! I found items to deduct at tax time that I've had no clue about for years. This is definitely a must for all providers. The author is a pleasant man and a great speaker too!

There is no doubt that this series is well written. My son read each of the four books in the span of less than a week. They really piqued his interest. These books will let you know what really turns on your child, but you'll need to go on for further, more in-depth review.

We love this book! It has everything I could ask for in activities for our history studies (except someone else to teach it!) My daughter loves to do the map work and make crafts that correspond with her lessons!

I love the copy pages and maps in this book. Also, the suggested reading lists are very helpful as are the chapter questions and review. However, I find about 70% of the activities are too complicated for a child to complete, maybe even for an adult to complete. Even if you want to do the activities you need much planning time to gather supplies. Otherwise it's an excellent buy.

A great resource.......2006-07-22

First the positive
Each book in this series is a complete introduction to history within a certain time frame, for example this one is about the Middle Ages. You will have to add your own history book to go along with this, this is just the lesson plan/idea book. (Usorne History of the World would be one example of the type of history book you might buy).

This book has a lot of ideas and activities in it all relating to the Middle Ages. There is cooking recipes, craft ideas, coloring pages, and so on. It is very comprehensive.

The one Negative Comment. It is very big and very thick. A large part of this is because it gets into the very basic ideas that most people do not need help remembering. That is, it provides a list of questions for each subject and page read. The questions are very basic and many of them you could think of yourself. However, this would be helpful for a first time home school mother who is not sure where to start.

Well worth the money. Enjoy.

The Story of the World Activity Book Two: The Middle Ages.......2006-03-17

I purchased the Activity Two Book because my son enjoyed the Activity One Book. This book is appropriate for Grades 1 through 4 and should be purchased "together" with The Story of the World Volume 2: The Middle Ages book. The activity book can be used in families with different-aged children. Each chapter includes a narration exercise, question and answer for oral and written review, cut-outs, coloring, maps, craft projects as well as a thorough list of suggested readings. There is something for everyone here to make learning history an enjoyable experience.

I had eagerly awaited the arrival of this well documented and very informative book from the States and was not disappointed upon reading it.

The information contained in the book was easily understood and would be, in my opinion, easy to digest for even the unitiated boxer owner.

A must have for any Boxer owner and it takes pride of place next to some of those well known authors on the subject of Boxers, such as Volpe, Somerfield, Ward-Davies and Toimita.

In Making Furniture in Preindustrial America Edward S. Cooke Jr. offers a fresh and appealing cross-disciplinary study of the furnituremakers, social structure, household possessions, and surviving pieces of furniture of two neighboring New England communities. Drawing on both documentary and artifactual sources, Cooke explores the interplay among producer, process, and style in demonstrating why and how the social economies of these two seemingly similar towns differed significantly during the late colonial and early national periods.

Throughout the latter half of the eighteenth century, Cooke explains, the yeoman town of Newtown relied on native joiners whose work satisfied the expectations of their fellow townspeople. These traditionalists combined craftwork with farming and made relatively plain, conservative furniture. By contrast, the typical joiner in the neighboring gentry town of Woodbury was the immigrant innovator. Born and raised elsewhere in Connecticut and serving a diverse clientele, these craftsmen were free of the cultural constraints that affected their Newtown contemporaries. I had hoped this book would have practical advise for beginners, and lots of pictures, and how-tos, such as how to prune, when and where, but I was disappointed, too much information and history that I did not need to know. Not much help for those with plants in containers, and those in the Northeast.

If you are someone wanting to read more about the history and species of Hibiscus, but don't know where to look, Barbara Perry Lawton's book is the place to go. Her book covers everything from history and breeders to native ranges and detailed explanations of more than 200 species of Hibiscus.
This book is full of useful information for anyone wanting to learn more about growing these beautiful plants in their garden. Chapters on propagation and cultivation are included and highly informative.
This is a great bok for the advanced gardener that would like to learn more about this interesting plant group.

This volume is a detailed exposition of the visual retellings from the Ramayana, Mahabharata and Bhagavata Purana on specific South Indian Hoysala temples. The first part of the book deals with the Amrteqvara temple, particularly its narrative panels depicting the Ramayana, Mahabharata and Bhagavata Purana. The text is a resume of episodes paired with photographs which illustrate and review the visual retellings and explore Indian techniques of visual narrative. Corollary material from other Hoysala temples with narrative reliefs, including new sites, is presented in the second part. There are very few published contextual studies of Indian narrative sculptures, and so the book is a contribution to the documentation of Indian medieval art, examining visual narratives within the context of the Hindu temple. The book is illustrated with 150 photographs.
