Customer Reviews:
Poignant "Sharpe's Revenge" says short-lived farewell to war and good riddance to Ducos.......2007-06-14
Bernard Cornwell has created a hero for the ages in Richard Sharpe, gutter trash raised from the ranks to become a Major in Wellington's army. For years, Sharpe has fought his away across land and sea, taking on enemies both mundane and exotic, and charming both men and women, friend and foe alike.
But after the novel opens with the vicious Battle of Toulouse. Not only was this battle a horrendous meat-grinder for both sides, it was particularly tragic because the battle was fought after Napoleon had already surrendered. Cornwell writes a stellar battle scene (as he always does), but the losses are even more horrific due to their futility.
Cornwell does not lighten the mood much after the battle, for the British army is now without a foe to fight, and therefore useless. The soldiers are packed off like so much cattle, and their Spanish and Portuguese wives and children are cast adrift - any British soldier who tried to dodge the lines to reunite with his family risked a firing squad. Cornwell is a proud Englishman, but he pulls no punches when describing his nation's occasional myopia.
Sharpe should be exulting in his good fortune, but his beloved wife Jane is in England trying to join society with the spoils of Sharpe's triumph at Vitoria. Not only that, Jane is soon to find her soulmate in the spoiled popinjay Lord Rossendale, whose job is to look handsome in uniform for the Prince Regent and to lose at cards. Jane, flighty as she is, soon shifts her affections from her rough soldier to the charming aristocrat.
And then there is Ducos, Sharpe's nemesis. Convinced that all is lost, Ducos steals a vast fortune from Napoleon and frames Sharpe for the deed. Soon, Sharpe is arrested by the provosts and seemingly doomed. Armed only with his courage and the strong rights arms of Sweet William Fredrickson and RSM Patrick Harper, Sharpe must fight across France to the Kingdom of Naples to clear his name.
A rather fantastic plot, to be sure, but one that Cornwell controls easily. The man must have about ten advanced degrees in the Napoleonic era, and the reader reaps the benefits of Cornwell's staggering research.
A must-read for all Sharpe fans, "Revenge" is a solid set-up to Waterloo.
Not one of the better books in the series.......2007-03-24
While it starts off well with a duel and a rousing battle, "Sharpe's Revenge" gradually develops into an unusually morose entry in the Sharpe series. I particularly disliked the unpleasant turn it took with Sharpe's wife, and it doesn't help that Sharpe seems to betray an old friend. The plot also feels somewhat contrived and farfetched, even for Richard Sharpe. There's a very clever twist involving a light artillery piece at the book's climax, but the denouement felt perfunctory and unconvincing. This isn't my least favorite novel in the Sharpe series (that would be the equally morose and even more farfetched "Sharpe's Prey"), but it's far from one of my favorites.
Worst Book in the Series!.......2006-08-21
I simply cannot believe that anyone that has read even one of the early books in the series would rate this one 5 or even 4 stars. This is without a doubt the worst book in the series, and readers will miss absolutely nothing by skipping it entirely. Read alone it might be tolerable, but in light of most of the other books in the series this one almost seems to be written by a totally different author. Sharpe is completely out of character in this book.
Sharpe is a soldier to the bone. On the battlefield he is master of his domain. Where other men see only chaos in battle, Sharpe sees, hears, and smells a clear picture of what is happening and a proper solution to win the victory. In the books that keep Sharpe doing what he does best (soldiering), the action is intense, and the writing flows like a raging river from page to page with the reader hanging on intensely to every word. Unfortunately, when Sharpe is removed from the battlefield he becomes an angry, unsocial, poorly educated, misfit, who can't seem to make even a simple decision without causing disaster. In the books in which Cornwell has removed Sharpe from battle to become a spy, detective, or anything except a soldier, the action suddenly falters, the plots become impossible, and these become the worst, hardest to read books in the series. This is the worst example of them all.
In this book Cornwell weaves an impossibly complicated story in which Sharpe's newest evil arch enemy (Major Ducos) manages to put not only the English, the French, and the Italian governments against him, but his wife, one of his best friends, and just about everyone else he comes in contact with. In addition he manages to once again loose his vast fortune due to a woman (how many times does this have to happen again and again in this series). Let us just think God that Sgt. Hawkeswill is dead, or I'm sure he would have been worked into this one as well.
This book was just so overboard and tedious I had to skip much of it to get through to the end. When Sharpe was not sitting around discussing relationships with Harper or Fredrickson, or trembling in fear (something totally out of character for Sharpe), the rest of the pages are used to lay out the incredibly complicated plot and introduce new and meaningless characters (like his wife's new greedy girl friend). I just can't believe that Cornwell wrote this one!
The ending where Sharpe teams up with the hated French General and repeatedly shouts "Vive l'Empereur", was just too much.
This book taints the whole series.
A Great Series.......2006-08-15
This is another entry on the Sharpe series. It is fun, entertaining and very readable. Cornwell's research is as excellent as usual. He takes some licenses for the shake of the story and continuity, but this is OK. Some people are outraged by the portrait of some of the real historical characters, but historical characters are rarely depicted accurately in historical fiction, so I think this can be forgiven. Besides, usually a more serious account of these characters is given at the end of the book on the Historical Note.
Many people insist in compare this series with Patrick O'Brian's Master and Commander. I don't think this is fair for any of the series, they are different entities. What they have in common is that once you start you may get hooked and devour one book after another...
And in the literary world today that is a rare and marvelous thing.
Sharpe Reveals His True Self.......2006-07-26
After reading the previous twenty books in historical order, I didn't think that stabbing a friend in the back and hiding from problems were 'Sharpe-esque' qualties, but now I guess they are. My opinion of the main character is permanently diminished.

Lots of action, a little humor, and interesting characters make this one of the best books in the Trailsman series. Readers who like a good Western won't go wrong with this one.

A great hip mystery.......2006-08-20
Hannah Wolfe is a young, hip London private detective. There are three Hannah Wolfe books, "Fat Farm", "Birth Marks", and "Under My Skin". In "Under My Skin", Hannah goes undercover at an exclusive spa. Someone has been playing some nasty tricks to hurt the business. It sounds like an easy job, and Hannah can get some free beauty treatments, but as usual in a Hannah Wolfe mystery, things soon get more complicated and more serious. All three of these mysteries are really well-written, intelligent, modern, and very fun to read. I really like Hannah, who is very smart, competent and resilient, and funny, without being annoyingly tough. I recommend this series very highly.
An easygoing who-dunnit.......1997-04-01
Hannah Wolfe is a private eye on a simple job to a health farm. Who is tampering the hot bats? Who replaces the massage oil with something nasty? It is all quickley revealed to make way for the real problem: the owner of the farm is married to an surgeon and something went wrong during the last six months of the marriage. One of the blurbs on the UK edition says: "the plot is crowded like a traffic jam." And it shure is!
This is a book in the best english/US tradition. Not too many pages (very english), not to many but some red herrings, a little love, some personal problems and an almost happy end. It is surely not the best i've read but is quite enjoyable.

Kolchak the Night Stalker: Get of Belial: A much-rumored lost TV episode script has been found! When the show was over, there were a couple of scripts left lying around unfilmed. Few people have ever laid eyes on these puppies, but we got them now! Never before seen in any offical form! Kolchak heads down to Winship County, West Virginia to get the lowdown on a heated miner's strike. When the mine's bossman is violently torn to shreds the ovious answer is one of the hard-hats just couldn't take it anymore. The M.E. rules a pick axe did him in. A miner's tool. And when a striker gets it in the exact same manner? Must be retribution. Sure, Carl buys that one-and Kris Kringle flies around in a black helicopter on Christmas Eve!
Customer Reviews:
A glimpse of the season that was not to be........2004-02-10
Moonstone's second Kolchak: The Night Stalker graphic novel is based on an unproduced script for the show's never to be second season. When the series was cancelled the scripts were shelved. Now fans can get an idea of the shows that might have been if Kolchak: The Night Stalker had been allowed a second season.
Carl is sent to West Virginia (Winship County to be exact) to cover a tension filled strike at a local mine. When the mine owner is savagely murdered the Sheriff thinks that it might be a few strike frustrated miners working out their differences in a more brutal fashion. But the type of wounds don't hint at a beating, it's more like a mauling. When two more people are murdered, Kolchak begins to dig a bit deeper and what he uncovers is an evil far older than that of mere mankind.
Again Moonstone shows a clear understanding of the tone, character, and stories that have made Kolchak: The Night Stalker such a cult favorite. The visuals are almost photographic in capturing the look of the series and thedialog rings true. These adaptations and original stories are essential for any Kolchak fan. Highly recommended.
Comic adaptation of a lost episode of Kolchak.......2004-01-29
After Moonstone's initial KOLCHAK graphic novel(an adaptation of the NIGHTSTALKER TV movie) they tackled a lost episode of the classic tv show. One wonders why this episode never aired, probably something to do with the Union element, the art and coloring are solid but the story really makes this book kick. You can almost hear Darrin McGavin's voice, the dialogue is so dead on. Nicely square bound and free of advertising the Kolchak graphic novel's from Moonstone are shaping up as a nice replacement to the now unavailable television show. My only complaint is a couple of typos (Kolcac?) Recommended

Book Description
Dr. William Sears has long been seen, along with Dr. Spock and Penelope Leach, as one of the leading pediatricians in the book business. Now all of the kids he helped as babies are older, and 15% of them (or about 9 million children, per USA Today 10/9/2002) are overweight. An even greater number are out of shape or unhappy about their physical appearance.
That's exactally why Dr. Sears has designed the L.E.A.N. PROGRAM FOR KIDS. This is the first publication by a brand name in the field of childcare that is offering a concrete program for overcoming the greatest health risks to school aged children: being overweight, underfit, and unhappy.
Written for parents to read by themselves or share with their children, L.E.A.N. PROGRAM FOR KIDS arms today's families with everything they need to overcome the dire statistics and lead a happy, healthy life.
Customer Reviews:
Awesome! Every family should read this book!.......2005-09-29
Dr. Sears' L.E.A.N. Kids is just what it says - a total health program for children ages 6-12. But it is also so much more! The authors have tackled the growing problem of unhealthy, sedentary, and overweight children in our society. Dr. Sears expresses a strong wish to help all children be lean - that means not skinny but healthy! He has developed a total program to aide in this endeavor and it is excellent.
Dr. Sears outlines a very thorough plan called the "L.E.A.N. Kids program" that helps kids become lean and healthy and avoid these health pitfalls of modern life. His plan addresses lifestyle, exercise, attitude, and nutrition.
While this book might be exceptionally helpful for the parent of a child who is struggling with a weight problem, it will be indispensable for ALL families who want their children to grow up healthy, happy and strong. This book is relevant to parents of children of all ages - from a mom with a newborn, who will benefit from knowing all these things BEFORE bad habits set in, to the mother of a teen who needs to be guided away from junk food and video games and toward a fun, positive, healthy lifestyle.
This is a great program and very inspiring. After reading this book, our family made a few changes in our diet [though we learned about nutrition from Dr. Sears many years ago and already were eating pretty well!], but we made drastic changes in our activity levels. We have begun running together as a family at a local track three nights a week, doing yoga with the kids, and working in other types of exercise in fun ways. Our children LOVE it! They are so glad mommy got this book! We were surprised at the enthusiasm we got from our kids when we started the program - they WANT to do it. Even our two year old is enthusiastically running a quarter mile at the track and is so proud of her little self!
I am grateful for having read this book. I feel like our children [and we ourselves] will be much healthier as a result. As always, reading Dr. Sears has made a very positive impact on our family!
Finally! The most important parenting advice ever........2003-10-24
As a pediatrician, diabetic, and mother of two boys, I had nearly given up hope for finding sound advice on teaching kids good lifesyle, exercise and nutrition habits in today's world. This is THE book for motivated, devoted parents who are willing to do what it takes to raise healthy, happy children. Wholistic and practical, scientific and compelling all at once. Worth every penny and more. Thank you Dr. Sears!

Well, what did you expect?.......2007-07-17
Personally, I was really surprised by the reviews that this book received. I have had largely positive experiences with it.
It always lists many varieties of cookies and gives a basic recipe (or four) for each type of cookie imaginable. I love cooking and am pleased to have this book in my collection. It offers so many options.
Only a few of the recipes that I have tried have been anything less than wonderful. I would definitely recommend this book!
A Great Cookie Book!.......2005-10-10
I was surprised at some of the reviews on this book, I have had good result with it so I can't say anything bad about it. :)
This book has so many recipes it is insane (in a good way though). It is a great reference and a wonderful book to pull out when you just want to try something new. I am always looking for something new and interesting to try and boy does this book have it. On many occasions this book has saved me when I needed a last min cookie idea for office parties or my daughters classroom parties. Over all I give it 4 Stars, the book covers everything under the sun and all the recipes I have tried out have come out good.
Quantity, But Not Much Quality.......2005-06-30
It is very useful to have so many cookie recipes in one book at the same time. Even a very good baking book will have, at most a couple of dozen cookies. On the other hand, the results were rather variable and not totally reliable (one person, one oven, one typewriter, what did you expect?). The experienced baker will have a treasure trove of recipes that require a little fine tuning, while the neophyte will probably be met with more than a few disappointments.
The best part of this book is that each recipe has a picture of the cookie.
The bad part is everything else. The biggest problem is the flour measurement: it only lists cups, but does not list an equivalent weight, nor the method of flour measurement (spoon and sweep, scoop and sweep, etc.). The way flour is measured can mean the difference between a perfect cookie and a hockey puck.
The results were variable: cookies that spread too much, cookies that were dry and crumbly, bar cookies that were either over or under baked, instructions where it is not always clear when something is properly baked, etc.
The biggest problem is also its strongest point: all cookies are arranged alphabetically on the first word of the cookie name. This can be a big problem for, say shortbread. If you look under shortbread, you will find nothing. However it can be found under butterscotch, ginger, peanut butter, almond, Brazil nut, cashew, hazelnut, nut, American, and scotch. Buried at the back of the book where you will never find it, is a cross reference list of all recipes organized by cookie type (bar, drop, formed, nonedible, refrigerator, and rolled). It is here that you will have to do research to find the cookie that you want.
Important note for experienced cookie bakers: this a very handy reference book to keep on your bookshelf. Regardless of what type cookie you want, you will probably find it here. Just keep in mind that the recipes have not been vetted, and you should do a couple of trial runs in order to correct the recipes. If you are a professional doing a catering job that requires you to put out a platter of at least 2 dozen types of cookies, I can think of no better resource than this one.
A good cookbook, with some reservations.......2004-11-12
I make the Sugar Cookies I with the Buttercream Icing (minus the raw egg yolk) and the Gazelle Horns every Xmas with great results. Also, this is a very good cookie book for people with dietary restrictions such as dairy, eggs, and nuts. I have never seen such a huge variety of cookie recipes that do not contain these ingredients! From reading the other reviews, I agree that some of the recipes are redundant and there is not enough description. Also, I am suspicious of any cookie recipe that uses vegetable shortening instead of real butter, which there are many.
CRISCO OBSESSED!.......2004-10-11
This guy is obsessed with vegetable shortening. Talk about bland cookies. Not to mention "1001" is a total lie. Anyone notice the 'repeat' recipes with cleverly (yeah right) disguised new names? Snickerdoodles, Nibbles and Cinnamon Balls are EXACTLY the SAME recipes... just in a different ORDER in printing. So are the Mexican Wedding Cakes (what a clever name for the IDENTICAL second version: in Spanish!). Funny that the author talks about his father on his deathbed confessing his 'secret' ingredient in the 'best' chocolate chip cookies. you guessed it: SHORTENING!
Whatever happened to butter...
Book Description
This new comprehensive look at the evolution of the American flight jacket from World War I to Desert Storm addresses not only the types worn, but focuses primarily on the art and adornment applied to the jackets. The most colorful and creative period for flight jacket art was World War II, and it is this era that comprises a major portion of this book. Additionally, many of the pieces are attributed to the original owner with biographical information, contemporary photographs of the individual, and the aircraft on which he served. Personal combat accounts are also included. Also covered are other military jackets used by flyers. American Flight Jackets** was compiled over a number of years by Jon Maguire and John Conway. The authors became friends through a mutual passion for aviation history and collecting. This book provides a valuable reference for historians and collectors alike, and includes over 1,000 photographs.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent pictorial monograph.......2003-03-13
If you are interested in flight jackets, their design, styles and art work, then this book is for you. There are literally hundreds of colour and black and white photographs of aviator leather jackets. World War Two jackets are covered in detail as are Korean and Vietnam period flight jackets. The book is well set out, has large high resolution photographs and is a well constructed hardcover. The only fault I could find with the book is that in many of the photographs it fails to identify the jacket type and specification. It also does not deal with jacket construction or design. As with many of Maguire's books it has excellent reference photographs and information on who used or wore the artical in question, but fails to provide detailed information on the item other than the basics. Still, it is worthwhile addition to a library, although the book is expensive.
WWWWWWW OOOOOOOO WWWWWWW !.......2000-09-26
Perhaps I enjoyed this book so much because of the fact that it's main focus is the WWII era of flight jackets and that is my favorite area as well. If you want historical jackets (KOREA AND WWII), get this book, but if you want just modern jackets then shop elsewhere.
If I had to be picky about the book, I would have to say that there were too many blood chits on jackets pictured and not enough pin-up work, but that's only if I had to be picky. The authors did their homework for this book as they don't just give you tons of photographs (BY THE WAY, THERE ARE TONS OF PHOTOGRAPHS) but also chronicle the jacket's history and when possible, the owner's history as well.
Fantastic layouts as the information is presented in a very professional and orderly way. They break down the jackets by theater as there's a section on the CBI theater, the European Theater, Korean theater, etc. Good paper and a nice sized book.
A bit on the pricey side but I still got it and I would still recommend it to the hardcore fan of the subject. May be too much cash for the casual fan.

Customer Reviews:
A must have.......2001-05-23
The reason I ordered this book is very simple: I'm an incurable nostalgic. Although I was born in a year (1960) not even close to the era from the great flight jackets, my interest has been growing since I started collecting memorabilia. (Books, magazines, newspapers, etc. from the period). As the owner of a (replica) A-2 jacket I decided I wanted to know more about them. This book has provided me with an excellent insight in the era and the men that wore the jackets. The sub-title promises a time span, roughly, from WWI to Desert Storm and although the emphasis is on WWII, the book delivers. Flight jacket buff and novice (like me) alike, this work takes you on a sentimental journey through the very interesting world of the American flight jacket. About one thousand pictures, most of them in colour and with great detail, show the flight jacket not just as a utilitarian garment but first and foremost as a means of expression and emotion. And that's why the authors shy away from quoting prices and don't talk about `market value'. Because some unscrupulous traders do not care about the intrinsic value but go for cold, hard cash, many jackets have been torn from their historical context and thus are lost. Not so in this book. Page after page of jackets, jacket art and the men who owned them. But not only leather jackets. Also all the other materials used in jackets are shown. (After the 50's, many jackets were made of other materials than leather). And some of the smaller details, like the lucky bells and the dinky whistles that some pilots used to hang from the collar hook of their jackets make even more interesting reading. The only thing I miss, is a summary of jacket manufacturers and some more technical details about the jackets themselves. Also, if you don't like reading a lot, this is a book for you. For all of you who are interested in a very special part of American heritage, or just want to know more about the flight jacket, this is required reading. To me: a must have.

Has your 18-inch doll been fantasizing herself as the beautiful Princess Cinderella? Has she been hinting around to dress up as Little Red Riding Hood for her next masquerade party? Or maybe, she's more practical and just wants a warm and snuggly Cowardly Lion or White Rabbit suit for those cold winter mornings. Say no more! All these patterns, plus fifteen others, can be found in this book. From Hansel and Gretel to that naughty little Goldilocks, your doll can be it all. And once she's smartly outfitted, you can find the directions to make all the necessary furniture and must-have settings from simple supplies, like cardboard project display board, felt, white foam board, and other things available at your local craft store. What a great book for the doll who has everything!

Customer Reviews:
I'm a Picture Person.......2000-05-07
Well, I am totally a picture person, and I found this book to be astonishing, I loved almost every pool I saw, there was some gardening pictures, but not that many, but i was personally looking for pools, that's probably why they titled it "POOLS and gardens". But if you love pictures and seeing other people's interpretations of beautiful scenery and living dreams, then i assure you that you will love this book!
Fascinating surreal images coupled with lack of substance.......2000-03-19
Dream Pools and Gardens does not supply any intelligible narrative and merely bombards the mind with image after image of mind-boggling pools. Was that the book's original purpose and goal? I certainly hope so.
Disappointing.......1999-07-22
I eagerly awaited the arrival of this book. Unfortunately, I found it to have little garden information, pictures which lacked good perspective and a narrative which was weakly written and included only sketchy details. "Reflections on Pools" is a much better book.

Rhinestone Cowboy.......2006-10-17
This book was great. Glen does not beat around the bush he tells it all as it was!
He does not sugarcoat anything. He tells us about the drugs and how it took him down. he tells us about the women such as Tayna. He also tells us about Sara Davis and how she left her husband Mac Davis for him. And how bad that realtionship was. It is a book filled with the hard cold truth about fame and how it can tear you down if you get a big head like Glen did. I am Glad that Glen got back on track with his life. I wish now Mac Davis would write a book I am a Mac fan as well.
Maybe more than you want to know........2001-07-28
Campbell's book blows the lid off the glamour and aura that surround celebrities, revealing how decadent, arrogant and immature he and many of his fellow stars became, thanks to abuse of cocaine and alcohol. Naturally, Campbell's children paid the highest price. It is interesting to read how his parents never compromised on their values despite their poverty, yet he succumbed to substance abuse while having everything he'd ever dreamed of. His fast life certainly clashed with the timeless beauty of his music.
While he chronicles his personal decline, however, he never really discusses his professional decline. After "Southern Nights" hit No. 1, his Top 40 career went south, ironically just as other pop/country crossover artists like Ronnie Milsap, Kenny Rogers and Eddie Rabbitt were beginning to take off. He remained a chart contender in country until about 1990. His efforts to keep selling records and open doors at radio would have been interesting to read. It would also have been interesting to know what, if anything, many of his most famous songs meant to him. The discography would have been more informative had it included dates and chart positions.
Campbell's excellent taste in music is evident in the classics he recorded during the late 60's and early 70's. But some of his most self-congratulatory moments in the book come when he gushes about his bagpipe rendition of "Amazing Grace" and his annoying habit of inviting various not-famous family members on stage to jam with him. Having witnessed these peculiarities in person, I can say that these are not the high points of his show.
This book will answer some questions and inspire those who have followed his career. Reading about his childhood is especially enlightening. But Gen-Xers like me who learned about him from hearing his oldies on the radio may prefer blissful ignorance about some aspects of his career. I didn't particularly need to know about his stints in Vegas or his memories of cornballs like the Smothers Brothers, Pat Paulsen and Buck Trent.
A Load of Compromising on the Road to his Horizon.......2001-05-26
Glen Campbell has lived a very interesting life-some good and some bad. His autobiography does not hold back on either portion. From his impoverished Arkansas childhood through his many tumultuous marriages and country music superstardom to his regret-free faded status and ultimate peace, Glen lays it all on the (Wichita) line.
While he does not gloss over his own flaws, the dirty linen of some other players-most notably Tanya Tucker is likewise held up for all to see. Arguably, he should have been less open in revealing maligning details about her, but their relationship kept tabloid readers engrossed for years and it legitimately was a salient chapter in his life. Furthermore, he does not condemn Tanya despite attributing less than wholesome motivations to her interest in him. He seems very sincere when he writes of his one-time paramour "I'm inclined to pray for the woman with whom I shared a poisoned relationship. I have since found another love that offers not the threat of death but the promise of eternal life. I pray that Tanya might find that too."
As Glen experienced his twilight maturation, he achieved the rank of solid citizen. Becoming a Branson regular appropriately accentuates his embrace of Christianity and advocacy of traditional values. By spelling out his staunch opposition to abortion and opposing special rights for homosexuals, he takes some daring positions for a celebrity tell-all, but it is refreshing to see a performer courageously step out of rigid show biz boundaries.
One unintended drawback concerns some details of his childhood. Glen is to be commended for the tremendous respect he displays toward his parents and also for admitting his failures as a father to his older children-even accepting significant blame for his middle-aged son's drug problems. However, he relates some paternal behavior that shows his father possessed a cruel streak. From his laudatory portrayal it is easy to see that was not the image he wanted to present, and he would probably disagree with such an assessment. A more prudent tactic would have been to remain mum on some of these mean actions.
Overall, "Rhinestone Cowboy" is a well-orchestrated rendition of a child born into poor Southern Nights but who eventually went "riding out on a horse in a star-spangles rodeo."

:).......2002-02-26
From the back...
He'd kissed her in the twilight and Liz's young heart had been lost forever. Now, thirty years later, Guy Heller was back in town, and the widowed Liz Babcock, respected music teacher, pillar of the community, seemed powerless to resist the magnetism of a hard-living, thrice-divorced country crooner. Her beau, Martin Avery, was shattered. Liz's mother wasn't speaking to her. Her daughters were horrified. Throughout Claro County, scandal swirled around Liz Babcock and her Rhinestone Cowboy.
My Opinion...
Liz and Guy's love survive thirty years of being separated from each other. They have both lived, loved, and lost. However, now Guy is back and he wants Liz. It is not hard for the reader to feel the ... attraction that practically leaps off the page. It is sad that Martin Avery loses Liz, but he gains so much from an unexpected woman. As for the rest of the town and Liz's family in particular, they acted like selfish, self-centered children. For heaven sakes they were all worried about themselves instead of Liz. Poor Guy has had a terrible childhood and things did not get better as he has gotten older. Guy seems to have no one to turn to except Liz. I was excited by the pairing of these two characters because they seem so right for each other. The only problem I had with this book was the decision by the authors of this series to do what they did to Jeff, Beverly's fiancee. Their story was in an earlier book. I feel cheated somehow because I invested myself into their relationship by reading their story, only to have it end the way it did in this book. You will just have to read this yourself to know what I mean. Putting the situation with Jeff aside I must admit that I enjoyed this book and it was a great addition to the series.
