The maven of guilty pleasures is back with a vengeance! Jackie Collins is at her prurient best in Lethal Seduction, creating a cast of characters as flawed as they can possibly be and still be likable. At the center of the whirlwind is stunning Madison Castelli, introduced previously in Collins's L.A. Connections series. Madison is a no-nonsense journalist who specializes in revealing interviews with the rich and famous. She discovers that her own life is not exactly as it seems when she hires private investigator Kimm Florian to uncover the secrets of her family's past. It turns out Maddy's beloved father didn't make his fortune in investments but rather as a mob hit man. And his targets may have included her two mothers: her real mother, who was murdered when Maddy was just an infant, and Stella, the beautiful, distant woman Maddy always believed to be her mother. Add in a pesky ex-lover who wants her back and a commitment-phobic new boyfriend in photographer Jake Sica, and Maddy's life is spinning out of control.
But she's hardly alone. When Madison's best friend, Grace Kelly look-alike Jamie Nova, finds out that her so-called perfect husband is cheating on her, she will do anything (and anyone) to get back at him. But the most captivating story line is that of bitch supreme Rosarita Falcon, unhappily married to a handsome but unsuccessful soap opera star whose real name is Dick Cockranger. Rosarita is perfectly willing to stoop to murder-for-hire (with her dear old dad pulling the trigger) to get rid of her husband so she can be with Joel Blaine, public sex fanatic and son of billionaire Leon Blaine.
The stories merge in a spectacular crescendo at a Las Vegas prizefight, when a mysterious stranger, Vincent Castle, appears to save Maddy and Jamie from an awkward situation. Fans of Jackie Collins will hope they haven't seen the last of Madison Castelli. --Alison Trinkle

Disappointed.......2006-06-12
I am a Jackie Collins fan and just embarked on a reading frenzy. I have ordered a lot of Jackie Collins' books and just completed two which I loved dearly. However, I am having a hard time reading this one. This has got to be the worst of Jackie. Save this for when you have nothing at all to do and even then --you will find the time to do something else. Not worth it.
Very lovely and entertaining book.......2004-06-11
It was a very interesting read, it had romance, drama, suspicions and more. it was a while since I read it but I highly enjoyed it, she'll leave you wanting more and with a lovely ending. The characters weren't predictable so thats good.
one more impotant thing: Since you'll love this book do not be tempted to get lethal seduction:the prequel-> deadly embrace which came after it, because it was Horrible!!! it felt as if she was rushing to make a dead line, and she repeated every single thing and focused mainly on michael. It was a very annoying book.
Another winner.......2004-04-03
Once again I enjoyed this book tremendously. I also picked up a few pointers. This was my first Jackie Collins novel. I have read about eight more and still counting. For a first impression I was very impressed. Keep up the good work, we love it.
Beautiful people having lots of sex..........2003-01-06
I like Jackie Collins books for a light read on the beach. Her older books, the Lucky series, Hollywood Wives, and Hollywood Husbands I particularly liked. This is trashy, averagely written "literature", so I take it for what it is.
Although this book is fairly entertaining, it is inherently flawed. One thing Jackie Collins is good at is creating a variety of characters and bringing them all together in the end. She does that in all her books, and Lethal Seduction is no different. However, this book nowhere near measures up to her previous efforts. In fact, it almost feels like a duplicate of all her other books.
I'm so tired of all the women being the most beautiful thing on the face of the Earth. Sure, they may be famous, but not all famous people are beautiful! Second, all of her characters speak the exact same way. Some of them may speak a bit more slangy, but the vulgarity abounds from every character. I can't imagine some of these characters saying the things she has them say. All everyone does is have sex, and lots of it. Come on, how about some depth! The Gem character was ridiculous, yet another perfect and innocent wannabe actress. Dexter talks to her for five minutes, and he's in love? And he practically stalks her from Vegas and she doesn't think he's a nutcase?
I don't know...this book is good for a day at the beach, but don't expect anything groundbreaking, and don't expect anything different from any of her other novels.
Jackie seems to be losing her touch.......2002-10-09
I've been an avid reader of Jackie Collins since her early days. Although all her novels are diverting, the newer efforts just seem a bit stale, as if the author is trying to re-create a hit formula. "Lethal Seduction" falls short of her other novels, the characters aren't as likeable and interesting. Also, what happened to Wes, Silver Anderson's husband? (Hollywood Husbands) He and Silver were perfect together and he's not even mentioned. Rafaella from "Rock Star" seems to have been written out of Kris Phoenix's life as well which is disappointing. To be honest, these days I pick up Collins's novels in the hope that they'll get better.

Book Description
Gabriel Du Preacute;'s Aunt Pauline has a list of husbands and ex-husbands and future husbands even she herself has trouble remembering. So Du Preacute; isn't exactly surprised when she shows up in Toussaint complaining that her current man, a lovable roughneck named Badger, has run off. His longer-than-usual absence has Pauline worried, and Du Preacute; promises to look into exactly what sort of trouble he has gotten himself into.No one quite imagines, least of all Pauline, that the first thing Du Preacute; will find in his investigation is Badger's body, lying in a remote part of the Montana wilderness with a bullet-hole in the base of his skull. Du Preacute; has a hunch his old friend and foil Harvey Wallace will be interested in the case-after all, Gabriel Du Preacute;'s Montana is teeming with just the sorts of people that tend to interest Wallace's employers, the FBI, and the odds that Badger got mixed up with them seem inordinately high. The trail leads straight into the teeming underworld of illegal, remote brush races involving a ragtag bunch of traveling horsemen, with many thousands of dollars wagered upon each race. Forced to go undercover to determine how Badger met his end, Du Preacute; finds his own horse and jockey to bet on in another complicated, fascinating outing for Montana's favorite Meacute;tis son. Peter Bowen's tough, rough-edged, likable hero rides again in Stewball, an intricate installment in a classic series by one of the genre's quirkiest and most beloved practitioners.
Customer Reviews:
"Good country, this.".......2006-02-22
We're back in another trip to the world of the Metis, who inhabit Montana and parts north, and have a culture uniquely their own - full of music, a love for the independent life, and a fractured grammar that makes backwards, everything. Peter Bowen has spent a lifetime telling the stories of Gabriel du Pres, cattle inspector, brilliant fiddle player, and solver of mysteries. Don't get the idea that Gabriel is a superman. He is carefully herded and guarded by his woman Madelaine, his daughters, madeliane's daughters, and Benetsee the shaman.
In Stewball, Gabriel sets out to find Auntie Pauline's latest boyfriend, and finds a corpse instead. Badger, Gabriel discovers, was doing the FBI a favor, and apparently ran into something bigger than he expected - big stakes horse racing and right wing militancy. Gabriel decides to get involved. Soon he and Booger Tom are the front men in a sting operation that seems to involve the FBI, the ATF, and any other law enforcement organization in the neighborhood.
As always, this story is more about the people than it is about the crime. Of everyone who appears though, the star of this story is Lourdes, Madelaine's oldest daughter, a natural horsewoman, and every bit as frightening as the other women in our hero's life, including Lourde's sister, Pallas, 10-year-old genius and evil spirit.
It is Lourdes' riding skills on Stewball that enable Gabriel and Tom to appear as wealthy horse racers so as to infiltrate the secret brush races and expose the doings of a closed circle of plotters. But men have died already, and the members of the club are wealthy enough to buy their way clean. The forces are evenly matched, but never count a determined Metis out of any fight.
For all its serious moments, Bowen tells this story with a very light touch and vivid characterization. I have come to love all the du Pres stories, but Stewball is special, full of all the things that makes this series entertaining. For all that this is the twelfth book in the series, you could easily start right here. Most likely you will go back and read them all.
Ole Stewball was a racehorse.......2005-12-18
I was as puzzled by this book's ending as I have been with all of Peter Bowen's endings since "Ash Child." I finished it, but I felt like I'd been dragged through a séance in the sweat lodge with the inscrutable Benetsee. Maybe the meaning of "Stewball"s conclusion will come to me in a dream.
At least the rich neo-nazi ranchers come out of this book nearly as whupped as the readers. Not that I think they don't deserve a good bashing, but I wasn't quite sure what the evil rancher intended to do with his vintage World War II P-38. He goes wooshing around in it at the end of the book, but he has no specific target that the readers need to worry about like an NAACP Convention or an American Civil Liberties Union picnic or a Navaho Tribal Council.
Nobody out on the prairie, Mr. Blackmore, except us chickens. We're all Aryan chickens so don't be pointing those cannons at us.
Oh well, I get the feeling the author wrote "Stewball" on automatic pilot. It consists mainly of non-expletive-deleted dialog between characters from his previous books. Luckily, Bowen provides an index of characters at the beginning of this book; otherwise new readers will never be able to figure out who's who.
Booger Tom, one of my favorite characters from previous novels in the Du Pré mystery series, gets lots of face time in "Stewball." He is pretending to be a race horse trainer. Bowen also clues us in on this old ranch hand's background: he earned the Congressional Medal of Honor for valor at Heartbreak Ridge in Korea, and also fought in France and Austria in WWII.
This old guy should be writing his memoirs, not mending barbwire and worming cows!
Anyway, Du Pré, the retired brand inspector and Booger Tom team up to race an Australian Quarter Horse named Stewball in brush races attended by neo-nazi ranchers. Du Pré's FBI buddy, Harvey Wallace asks them to discover who murdered one of his snitches, who was passing counterfeit money at a brush race. The snitch also happened to be married to one of Du Pré's aunts.
That's about all the plot there is. Benetsee holds a couple of séances in his sweat lodge and dons his war paint. Du Pré laces on his Cree running moccasins and rubs dirty engine oil on his face. He shoots a couple of bad guys with his MP-40, sets fire to a bunch of aviation fuel drums, and drinks a whole lot of bourbon.
Stewball wins a few races.
That's it, except for some long-winded, expletive-not-deleted lectures on the American far-right.
P.S. Mr. Bowen, if Stewball is a blue roan, he has a black mane and tail, not gray or white.
Stewball's fast paced and perfect Gabriel du'Pre.......2005-08-06
All of Peter Bowen's books are a fast, furious, and a fun read, including Stewball. I love Gabriel's friends and family. I also love the focus on Metis and their culture, because I am familiar with it, and also with the geographic areas the stories tend to be set in. The characters are pretty much like real people seen though a sardonic eye, with a bit of poetic license thrown in. They are real enough to draw you into their concerns but exaggerated enough to make it fun. May the ink never dry in Mr. Bowen's pens.
terrific Montana mystery.......2005-03-30
Gabriel Du Pre meets with his Aunt Pauline at the Toussaint Saloon. She tells him her latest husband Badger has gone missing for two weeks and that the FBI is somehow involved. She wants him to call his FBI friend to find out what happened to her spouse. Du Pre does exactly that and finds Badger was caught coming across the Canadian border with ten thousand valium tablets. Badger agreed to infiltrate a white supremacist and the charges against him will be greatly reduced.
There is heavy gambling at these races and the FBI supplied him with marked money that turned out to be counterfeit. The group killed Badger but the Feds still wants someone to infiltrate the urban theorist group. Du Pre has his granddaughter ride a horse in the races in the hopes that he will be accepted by the group and learn who the real leaders are. It is a dangerous situation but Du Pre has it under control until the leader escapes during an FBI raid. Du Pre is determined to be the one to find him no matter how long it takes.
Du Pre is a unique, independent and ageless protagonist who goes his own way and doesn't let anyone stop him from doing what he wants. It is lucky for law enforcement that he is on the side of Justice because he would make an untouchable crook. Peter Bowen does for Montana what Tony Hillerman does for New Mexico. Perhaps the most delightful character in this novel is STEWBALL, the horse that is in love with Du Pre's granddaughter Lourdes.

This book kept me from killing myself in pain!.......2007-02-02
Boy this book saved my life. Or at least my job. I ride the bus almost four hours a day and have massive neck and headaches from it. During my last attack I gave myself a head massage, using the techniques I had learned in this lovely book. By the time I was half way done the pain had ebbed quite a bit. By the time I finished I was weak in relief. And I still had an hour to go on the bus! I have gentled the stress giant in my boyfriend's life and kept MYSELF sane as well. Whew. I Recommend this for anyone who is serious about massage techniques and is willing to invest time in practicing.
Oh yeah, I practice about four hours a week on a very willing BF.

Head, Neck & Shoulders Massage: A Step-by-Step Guide.......2005-08-28
Nice looking book, some interesting ideas on visualization. The instructional value for actual massage is very limited. Neck massage, one paragraph. It will be in my next garage sale.
oh well.......2004-06-24
Not worth the money. Very dry. Meaning the book has no meat. If you do chair massage there may be thechniques you can use but this not a book for regular table massage. Great color pictures.
More than a Massage.......2001-08-08
Don't let the title mislead you. This book delivers much more than the title indicates. Along with lovely head, neck & shoulder massage routines there are simple but beautiful visualizations that can help you achieve calm & serenity. By the end of the self care routine I feel energized, centered & relaxed as melting butter.
In the self care, face sequence, step 8 may just be the best facial muscle toning routine I have seen. You will NOT make new wrinkles with this gentle but challenging tense & release routine.
The more I practice the techniques and routines the more I appreciate this book.
Bubbles Book Review.......2000-12-31
I thought this book was creative and well worth the time taken out of your day to read.

Quick, Easy and Delicious - Chocolate!.......2005-10-07
Chocolate anyone? Having purchased other books by Reader's Digest I have come to appreciate the amount of information available under one cover and with Chocolate Sensations I wasn't disappointed. There is a variety and ease of use that doesn't require a staff or a long list of exotic and hard to find ingredients. Each recipe has a photograph to accompany it and each recipe fits on one page. If you cook, you know turning a page is often difficult with sticky fingers!
Filled with recipes ranging from casual to more formal events, this is an easy to use resource that covers the gamut of chocolate delights. There is a section on Cakes, Cookies, Pastries, Pies and Tarts, Quick Breads, Soufflés and much more. Examples include Chocolate Icebox Cake, Cocoa Yogurt Cake, Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake. Lots of ring cakes and Bundt cakes to take on outings or to events that won't keep you in the kitchen for 6 hours! That's just the cake section............
I made the Frozen Chocolate-Orange Terrine last week (takes about 15 minutes + freezing time) and took it to work. I used my Le Creuset Terrine and doubled the recipe, serving it on a long platter with orange slices around the edge and a side of whipped cream. (OK, that took an extra five minutes!)
I own many complicated, labor intensive, hard to find ingredient Chocolate books and I'm happy with them for what they are. I am equally happy with this new book when I need something tasty and easy to make with ingredients I generally have on hand.

Book Description
The original designs are not displayed, but are featured in the scenography as huge photographic enlargements that, for Ettore Sottass, conjure up the "idea" or "thought:" behind the object. Nevertheless, he felt it was important that the catalogue reflect the jeweler's graphic world. this book contains a selection of designs chosen in synergy with the layout of the exhibition. The combination of actual-size reproductions with enlargements makes it possible to see the act of creation, circumscribed by the ratio of I and the correct proportions it generates, in close relation to the graphic or pictorial technique, which monumentalizes the object or piece of jewelry - thereby mirroring Ettore Sottass' architectural vision. The pieces chosen showcase production drawings that illustrate the unique relationship between design and material. All designs reproduced here are from the Cartier Paris Archives.

Ultimate book on creating beautiful wreaths for your home.......2002-04-03
This is a wonderful book! It has been in my collection for several years now and I have used it a countless number of times for inspiration and as a valuable reference guide in creating my own floral designs.
Whether you are a novice or have been making floral crafts for years, this is the ultimate book on creating beautiful wreaths for your home. It outlines everything you need to know to get started: identifying and explaining in detail the different types of tools, supplies and floral materials commonly used in floral crafting, as well as providing step-by-step instructions for basic floral techniques and bow making. Once you get a feel for the basics, there are 94 beautifully illustrated projects to create or to be inspired by, including some neat alternatives to the basic wreath. I highly recommend this book.
Wreaths pictured are very unattractive........1999-10-27
I was very disappointed in the wreaths that the author was going to help me make, because as many as there were (a lot) I found them overloaded with decorations, unbalanced and nothing I would make to give or sell. The step by step "recipes" for each wreath did have some helpful tips for the novice.
This book is creative and colorful........1999-09-17
How To Do Wreaths gives you good ideas. And the easy to follow step by step instructions are very helpful. Also included are the tools needed to get yourself atarted. Overall a very useful book.

Book Description
In this revised edition of an award-winning work, Jerry Apps provides an informative and moving account of Wisconsin's most hand-working structures -- its barns. Symbols of optimism, pride, and practicality, barns are as diverse as the people who built them. Here Apps describes the exquisite craftmanship with which Finns, Norweigans, Germans and other immigrant groups built their pioneer barns. We learn, too, how round and octagonal barns developed, and why cupolas and lightning rods were used, and how some of Wisconsin's barns became covered with colorful murals and billboards. Allen Strang's meticulous pencil sketches and eight stunning watercolors illustrate the text. Unfortunately, our barns are fast disappearing, victims of urban development and the trend toward large-scale farming. In a new chapter, Apps describes the nationwide movement to save these historic structures, and tells us how some owners have converted barns to innovative new uses. In so doing, he offers both inspiration and practical advice to anyone who believes these magnificent buildings should continue to stand proudly in the Wisconsin landscape.

A Great Read.......2002-01-22
I found myself reading this book through in two sittings. If you like history, personal stories, diaries or the like, you will enjoy this book. I compare it to Jimmy Carter's An Hour Before Daylight in that it gives a picture of rural life in the early part of the century. It is human, candid, and lean in its verbage. It captures all of the emotions and leaves you with mental images that will last a lifetime. Try it.
A window into a world gone by.......1999-12-07
In an era of urban sprawl and corporate farming, this is a gentle reminder of a world of small towns and kind people. Jackie's experiences growing up on the dairy farm range from laugh-out-loud humorous to tears rolling. "The Round Barn" illustrates what family values truly were before the demogogues got hold of the term: integrity, caring and principles put before profit. The Dougans were--and are--intelligent, hard-working people who have a tremendous joy in living.
The stories are brief enough to read aloud---and deep enough to read again and again with pleasure.

Book Description
Satyjit Ray's films include the Apu Trilogy, The Music Room, Charulata, Days and Nights in the Forest, The Chess Players, and The Stranger. He also made comedies, musical fantasies, detective films, and documentaries. He was an exceptionally versatile artist who won almost every major prize in cinema, including a lifetime achievement Oscar in 1992. This is the best-known biography of the film giant, based on extensive interviews with Ray himself, his actors, collaborators, and a deep knowledge of Bengali culture. This second edition contains extensive new material covering Ray's final three films made in 1989-1991, a discussion of his artistic legacy, and the most comprehensive bibliography of Ray's own writings.
Customer Reviews:
A treasure of information!.......2007-06-18
I cannot think of a more definitive biography than this one! The biography of a master filmmaker is of remarkable detail. Uncommon extras, from something as simple as a section on the maternal and paternal family tree to a page devoted to the pronounciation and origin of the name Satyajit Ray.
Another unusual detailed section is NOTES. The notes refer to a reference line or quote and it's source, publication and date. If the section refers to the Apu Trilogy, then any quotes are clearly identified. Another feature is the glossary of words taken from the book, the languages are Bengali and other Indian languages.
You will also get a complete Filmography and Bibliography, and the book includes a definitive index.
The biography begins with his early life 1921 to his life as a commercial artist and critic. What I believe to be his most famous work, The Apu Trilogy, is well documented and a synopsis is included.
There is plenty of insight into his others, The Music Room, The Goddess, Three Daughters, Kanchenjungha, The Expedition, The Big City, The Lonely Wife, The Coward, and The Hero, Calcutta Trilogy, Distant Thunder, Chess Players, and more.
And, there is more! This is a wonderful reference to one of the greatest movie directors in history. And, he is also a composer!
The version has been updated to cover his death in 1992 and the Ray legacy. A quote on the book from Films and Filming reads: 'A glorious book, a feast of research and insight'
If you haven't seen a Satyajit Ray film, do so and read about it here within 420 pages. ......MzRizz
As Great And Vast As Its Subject.......2006-09-16
Any serious admirer of Satyajit Ray probably is already aware of this biography; I would also recommend it to general readers: if you aren't already familiar with Ray (I don't know many Americans who are), you will love him by the time you're done with this very engaging and readable critical bio.
Robinson, who had been a friend of Ray's, spent a number of years working on this, and his account of Ray's family and childhood draws upon interviews and conversations, supplemented with material from Ray's own CHILDHOOD DAYS, MY YEARS WITH APU, and other sources. Robinson paints a portrait of a Calcutta overflowing with creative potential - Ray's family connections to Tagore are also detailed, as are the accomplishments of his father and grandfather, and the intellectual independence of his mother, who seemed to strongly influence at least a few of his cinematic characters.
Later on, Robinson engages in a film-by-film analysis of Ray's career, which includes shorts and documentaries. Accessible but well-researched and well-written critiques are followed with some personal impressions, and quotes from varied film critics and other filmmakers: fans of Jean Renoir and Akira Kurosawa will note their presence here, and their influence upon Ray's thinking and career. Robinson locates each film with certain contexts: Indian cinema, the 1950s/60s international arthouse boom, the artistic milieu of Calcutta, and Ray's many international influences and fascinations; the end result is something that will make one want to see (and read) as much of Ray's work as one can get one's hands on.
I'm a big admirer of Ray, but - in it's success in realizing its' ambitions - Robinson has also created one of the greater artistic biographies I've run across - this is a rich and very sophisticated piece of writing which I very highly recommended to all.
