Revolutionary.......2005-06-22
These poems have been underated since they're release. If one considers the fact that Jim Morrison was protesting the Vietnam War while his father was an Admiral in the United States Navy; I think the reader will come to understand the value of Morrison's work. He's always been a poet first.
Volume II (2 of 2) of Jim Morrison's Poetry.......2005-05-17
A "Must Have" for any serious fan of Jim Morrison\The Doors. The original poems of Jim Morrison from which many of The Doors songs' lyrics were taken\based on. Provides additional insight into the works of Jim Morrison and The Doors.
This book is great.......2005-02-25
"The American Night: The Writings of Jim Morrison Volume 2" is a collection of short stories and poetry written by Jim Morrison. This book has interestingly diverse content. It includes lyrical verse of many musical styles, uncorrected journals, and pages of unconventional poetry. The stories and poems are very distinct and separate considering it is a compilation of work that spans many years. You may read autobiographies or descriptions of Jim Morrison and learn facts about the events of his life, but if you prefer to form your own opinions and make your own judgments, this book gives you insight into Jim Morrison through his writings.
The wild and charismatic Jim Morrison is revealed in his documents. Some of the writings may not be grammatically correct or traditionally written, since most of the work in this book was never revised. On the other hand, revisions may have tainted the overall impact of the work. The writing is so gripping and unique that it holds your interest from cover to cover. There is just enough reality in his writing to keep you engrossed and enables you to relate to the text. Jim Morrison was a great poet, songwriter, and author. Go ahead and pick up a copy of this intriguing book, it won't let you down.
Lizard King's poetry.......2004-07-14
This collection by Jim Morrison is deep and beautiful. I have found that alot of these poems on here are also on the American Prayer CD, so that is cool. If you like this, get any other book from Jim, you won't be disappionted. If you want to hear him read his work, get the American Prayer CD.
an american prayer in poetry.......2004-07-08
I must admit, I find Jim's poems very symbolic and understanding his meanings is sometimes like trying to crack open a hard nutshell. But his poems are highly intelligent, showing much knowledge and a strong command of language, an ability to use language creatively. Apart from poems culled from his notebooks after his death, this book also includes an intriguing and disturbing unfinished screenplay about a hitchhiker who commits murder, and includes the text to his more poetic song lyrics.

Journalist McLeod Dulaney investigates when a new friend meets an uncommon demise in the rare books section of Princeton's library.
Customer Reviews:
"Death is academic" number four.......2007-03-01
McLeod Dulaney is a Florida journalist who has landed a great gig: teaching writing at Princeton University one semester a year. Coincidentally, every time she's up in New Jersey, she's involved in a murder investigation on campus. Inquisitive by nature, McLeod makes every attempt to solve the murder. She gets close to the truth but often comes to a slightly incorrect conclusion.
In this fourth installment in the series, McLeod becomes fascinated with the research possibilities in the Rare Books and Special Collections department of the Princeton libraries. After a major benefactor and Special Collections figurehead is murdered, McLeod tries to figure out who could have killed him. At the same time, her housemate George asks her to clean out the garage, and she discovers an old book and two rare artifacts that someone is evidently quite interested in. A second murder unfortunately takes place before McLeod can put two and two together. Will she figure everything out before she's next? And what's the status of her relationship with police investigator Nick Perry? What's up with her housemate and host, George Bridges?
The episodes in this series are like bags of potato chips: you can't stop at just one. Though the general writing style and the unraveling of each mystery won't set the world on fire, the books are entertaining enough -- especially for folks who are connected to Princeton or to any academic atmosphere where similar circumstances could certainly arise.
A fun read. Light mystery........2007-01-03
Very enjoyable mystery...from the perspective of one who rarely reads mystery novels. Protagonist is quite likable and meets interesting, sometimes quirky but believable characters during her teaching stint at the NJ Ivy. The many references to food preparation and dining reminded me of reading Nancy Drew many (30?!) years ago.
For anyone who studied at P.U. and/or lived in Princeton, the references to familiar environs offer pleasant nostalgia. A good gift for alumni, students or new admits.
Vintage Waldron.......2006-11-18
A Rare Murder in Princeton is the fourth book written by Ann Waldron about MacLeod Dulaney. MacLeod is a newspaperwoman from Tallahassee Floriday who is asked to give semester length classes at Princeton University in New Jersey. While in New Jersey, she manages to get involved in various murder mysteries and solve them. In this book, the title tells you that the murder takes place in the Rare Books and Manuscripts section of the Princeton Library.
The book is vintage Waldron in that we are treated to somewhat faithful descriptions of actual places in and around the Princeton campus while weaving a fanciful story of mystery and mayhem. There are the normal comments on the differences between Florida and New Jersey weather and how it affects this woman who lived in the South her whole life, etc. Also making this a typical Waldron story is that her Dulaney character talks to everyone associated with or connected to the muder in some way and manages to get information from them that the local police cannot unmask.
As a matter of course, MacLeod figures out who the murderer is just about too late. Actually, she is being targeted and only a fluky sequence of events allows her to escape being killed at the end of the story.
Along the way, we learn about a World War 2 theft of valuable manuscripts, why some people begin to collect first editions, who is drinking on the job at the Library, and the foibles of various other characters. Of the main characters in the previous volumes, only George Bridges is mentioned in this one - which is somewhat of a shame.
So, Whodunnit? Reading along in the book, seeing things from MacLeod's perspective, you do not really figure out what is going on until just about the time that MacLeod does. Waldron does a good job of tossing one red herring after another at the reader so you are left guessing. For instance, a young worker who is a key part in the story comes to MacLeod and George's house and manages to drink a lot of alcohol - mixing his liquor as well! one would have expected that to become a key element of the story, but it's not. It is never mentioned again. The character has no ill effects, not even a hangover!
This book is the perfect kind of mindless entertainment that is sometimes called for and is a fun way to spend some hours lost in a different world. Those who have knolwedge of Princeton and its institutions and inhabitants will probably be more entertained by the descriptions of places and shops than those who know nothing of it, but it is still an entertaining read, regardless.

Well Written, Good Design.......2006-04-20
When I saw this book, I immediately thought, I have to read it and so I did. It is a very well written book and covers quite a bit about WTF(World Taekwondo Federation) Taekwondo. I would have liked to see some more topics covered and some of the topics they covered expanded upon but, that's just me, for what they did cover, they did it well and it was very well explained and illustrated with pictures.
The overal design of the book though, in terms of layout and scheme were very well thought out and something I think anyone can appreciate. This made reading it even more enjoyable, the pictures were sharp and clear and the text was written in plain english, except for the Korean terms of course.
Again, I had fun reading it and I think anyone who studies Taekwondo like myself will take something away from this book even some seasoned black belts who might need to go back to basics for a quick refresher.
Good, but missing a few things.......2006-03-10
As a new student of TKD, I found this book quite helpful trough my first few belt ranks. But I also see that there are a few things missing from this book that you can only learn from your instructor. All in all a good primer.
Great intro book.......2004-05-09
This was one of the first books on Taekwondo that I came across, just after I started training, which was probably perfect. It is aimed at the beginner and offers guidance from how to tie your belt through all the essential punches, blocks and kicks. Excellent colour photos with arrows added to show movement.
Ideal beginners book and a great gift for someone (young or old)in the early stages of Taekwondo.

Island Nyamings.......2006-09-16
Having lived in the Caribbean, I am hard to please when it comes to our dishes...they have to taste "just right" and be authentic. This cookbook definitely has many recipies that are very familiar to me. True island cooking at its best! You will not be disappointed with this purchase. Gwaan an enjoy it!
Great food!.......2005-03-05
My wife loves the fact that I like to cook. Our kitchen shelves are filled with cookbooks and most have a few recipes that I like. Tropic Cooking is one that I consistently use and everyone, including my kids, loves the results.
The Florida Avocado Dip is wonderful, I usually leave off the olives though.
Pork Chops Negril is a sweet treat that just takes a few minutes to create. It's perfect for an evening when you're strapped for time.
Potatoes Bonaventure is always a hit at pot lucks, I think it's the pastrami that catches peoples attention as well as tickles their tastbuds.
If you can get fresh ripe tomatoes that don't taste like cardboard then one of these two recipes are wonderful.
Broiled Tomatoes with Mushroom Bits.
Fried Tomatoes.
I wish I was more of a dessert person because some of these sound wonderful. Cicely's Baked Bananas was an experiment once for a dessert party and it was very well received. I took home an empty plate which is always a good sign.
I highly recommend Tropic Cooking!
best recipe for curried chicken.......1998-10-07
Love this cookbook. Recipes are from the Caribbean, as well as a number of Florida's best restaurants. I use this book all the time and have for years. It's fun!
If you have only one cookbook this is the one!!!!!.......1998-10-03
I have a libary of cookbooks and "Tropic Cooking" is the one I constantly use.
This is a superior book on Caribbean cuisine.......1998-10-01
This is one of the best, easy-to-follow cookbooks and guides on how to cook lowfat, delicious Caribbean foods. I was the "hit" of many dinner events with family and guests using this great guide to unique and delicious recipes. I recommend "Tropic Cooking" by Joyce LaFray for the experienced chef or the novice cook who's looking for an easy to follow, hard to find cook book to yummy Island dining.

Normandie in photographs.......2006-10-25
There is nothing like the classic Ocean Liners of the past...floating palaces, and wonders of the world at the time. The Normandie or Ship of Light as she was fondly called was certainly one of the most beautiful liners of all time. This is a photographic history of the ship from building to her untimely end. Well worth the price for ship enthusiasts.
Art Deco at It's Finest.......2004-09-09
The Normandie appeared to be a fantastic ship. A sleek greyhoud when comapred to the British Horizontal Queen Mary, the liner appeared to go all out to make crossing the Atlantic an experience in luxury that one would seldom forget. John Mantone Graham, author of Crossing & Cruising and other books on the great liners fantasiczed in one of his books how the Normandie would fare in the post World War II era, if she had survived the February 1942 fire and completed her transformation to a troop carrier and back to an ocean liner with such improvements as air conditioning, etc.
It's most interesting that the recently launched Queen Mary2 was constructed in the same ship yard as the Normandie was. Perhaps it was just an interesting coincidence.
Gorgeous but,.......2003-01-24
This book treats the First Class area of the Normadie in great detail and lush photographs, but I was slightly disapointed by the lack of information about the 2nd and 3rd classes. From what I have heard, these two classes were far superior to any other liner of the 1930's, and it was a bit let-down not to see any photos of these areas of the fabulous Normandie.
On the other hand, I had never seen some of the 1st Class photos before--- In general, a great visual(but slightly limited)find.
I can't get enough of this 'Ship of Light'..........2002-05-12
I'm a big fan of the famous, luxurious old transatlantic liners. The Normandie is perhaps my favorite, as the most beautiful and gracious of the pre-WWII ladies of the sea. The fact that the Normandie was tragically and negligently destroyed well before she'd passed her prime has made knowing her much more difficult than her still-opulent rival, the Queen Mary. This mystery shrouds she was REALLY like...and remains a big part of her attraction. This book really helped me get closer to the Normandie, with lovely pictures of her construction and her glorious career, as well as saddening photos of her destruction. Though depressing, one sight I'd longed to see was her first class dining salon post-fire, which this book includes. I just had to know what fire and salvage would do to it...and know I know!
Though you'll never get to step on board this wonderous ship, you can learn an awful lot about her in this book!

Book Description
The projects in this superb teaching guide not only offer enjoyable drawing exercises, but are also designed to instill good working methods to benefit artists at all levels. Readers are shown different ways to look at a subject by studying shape, form, space, light, texture, and movement as applied to figure drawing, still life, landscape, and abstract subjects. Rather than prescribing a single, absolute technique, the book presents drawing as an act that reflects the complexity of human experience in numerous ways.
Peter Stanyer and Terry Rosenberg, painters who have exhibited their own work in numerous shows, are both dedicated teachers who conduct highly regarded art courses in London for students at all levels.

Just another co-authored.......2004-06-29
"A Foundation Course in Drawing" by PETER STANYER & TERRY ROSENBERG
As a general rule, there are not many "really good" co-authored books out there. This rambling and disjointed introduction to drawing is no exception. It seems as though, when books have two authors, that both persons simply agree to give a half-effort, in hopes that the two of them can put together a whole, dynamic book. It just doesn't seem to work here.
Extreme language on the cover of a book is a *WARNING*
Words like "Complete guide to" or "Ultimate" or "Essential guide to" etc. "Basic" or even "FOUNDATION COURSE" might seem to give the authorship a great deal of liberty. In fact, it requires that an author really cover the basics, the FOUNDATION, in a very clear and well organized manner. This book lays an incomplete FOUNDATION.
It is limited to "Gesture Drawings" in the first 20 pages, and then, after a lot of wordy text, you reach page 41 before you see the SIMPLIFIED FIGURETTE, or BLOCK PUPPET. Only two of them: One drawn with Cylinders, the other with Ovals. That's it. Just two images, and no more.
The book is over-reaching. It outlines more material than it can cover adequately in a FOUNDATION COURSE. There is a bit of an "attitude" in this book. It's as though the authors are saying:
"If you know already how to copy the line drawings in our lessons, FINE! If you are a BEGINNER, and cannot....TOO BAD!"
The book is divided into Five Sections:
Life drawing, Still Life, Landscape, Abstract Drawing (in a FOUNDATION COURSE??????) and Drawing Systems. Neither of the last two sections belongs in a book on FOUNDATION in drawing. See what I mean? The book is "over-reaching".
Allow me to give yet another example. The Back Cover says this:
"Will help artists of all abilities."
Excuse me, but shouldn't a course laying a FOUNDATION, be of help to BEGINNERS? If someone is already an "artist" shouldn't they be using more advanced books? That is why this book is "over-reaching". The authorship has a fuzzy focus about who the intended audience is.
This book does move into INTERMEDIATE material, but sacrifices BASICS to get there. (over-reaching)
The problem with a multitude of these drawing instruction books are flaws that fall into several categories:
(1) they try to cover virtually EVERYTHING in art generally, including PAINTING or COLOR, or COMPOSITION which means they must skip quickly over their DRAWING BASICS for the beginner to do so. A good drawing book must start with DRAWING, and stick with DRAWING only, for at least 3/4ths of its chapters. The really good drawing books do this.
(2) the author is extremely dull and uninspiring to begin with, illustrating the book with ordinary household objects for suggested drawing exercises; objects like can openers, coffee pots, key chains, tables, chairs, bicycles and has no true justification for putting another drawing book on the market (good books are already in print), and copying the same outline for growth that other books have.
(3) the author is too wordy, loading down the book with unnecessary theory and intellectualizations.
With those flaws in mind, it is clear that "A FOUNDATION COURSE IN DRAWING" is too broad in scope and moves too quickly away from basics into intermediate material (flaw 1), is no better than other books on the market (flaw 2) and the drawings and illustrations are among the worst availble in a basic drawing HOW-TO. (they are REALLY BAD!) The text is alternatively overly-simplistic or overly-complex.
"A FOUNDATION COURSE IN DRAWING" is a poor introduction for any beginner, but the book is inexpensive for 276 pages if that's all you want.
Excellent........2004-03-09
One of the best drawing books I have found. Covers a lot.
Novices and Art Teachers Get This Book!.......2001-06-19
This is a great book filled with constructive projects for Drawing. It is good for people who are beginning to draw to Art teachers. If you are an Art teacher the projects are useful for your classroom in developing student's drawing skills. It thoroughly covers the basics of Drawing. It covers drawing from still life to abstract. I highly recommend this book. It is easy to understand and filled with diagrams for those visual learners out there.
only if it is free.......2001-03-24
would I recommend this book. I am a professional artist and I find there are so many good books out there... this is not one of them. The drawings are good but not great, and certainly not great to learn by. The lessons are so, so. Each time I open and close this book, I get hardly anything at all...

God on film........1999-10-12
As with each viewing of an Antonioni film (sans "Zabrieske Point"), the essays in this book make the reader appreciate and "understand" the films of Antonioni more.
Antonioni is a genius, and what he has to say about the process of filmmaking is essential to anyone who wishes to make a respectable film.
And for those of you are still begging to know: Antonioni explains how he made that-probably the greatest in film history-final tracking shot in "The Passenger". God, what a shot that is!
