Book Description
Attention Lenore fans: Roman Dirge is back with an all-new storybook-format tale. This time, it¹s the tragic story of a cat named Cat, and his misfortunes in life due to his enormously oversized head. This digest-size tale (5.5 x 8.5²) comes with a glossy card-stock cover with color art on the inside covers as well as outside, and includes an all-new back up story by Dirge, which he says is not as good. You be the judge.

Sooo funny!.......2007-10-02
I think I had bought this book at hot topic or somewhere that sells those types of things. I just happened to spot it and it instantly caught my eye. I was laughing in my head when I saw the title, and it continued on when I read it. This is a great book, of course not necessarily for kids, especially if they have parents that are gonna burn it as soon as they bring it home! (unless you have that nice little nook in the wall or floor board to hide it in....) I especially liked the end, with the nine lives and all, can't get a break I guess. And the cat chow they gave him! What was it, beefy beef chunky chewy chunks of beef or something, lolz! Great gift for Halloween, people with a morbid sense of humor (some say I can be like that at times ;) or just a gift for any occasion really, for those you might think would enjoy it.
Super quick read, in the style/tone of Invader Zim.......2007-06-15
I'm a huge Invader Zim fan, so I decided to pick this book up. It is a very short book; it took me about ten minutes to read it cover to cover. If you're considering this book for a kid, it does have a little bit of adult-ish content, specifically:
* Comic book style masked obscenity (e.g., %#@^!&)
* Cat birthing (admittedly, the part where the reader is asked to contemplate the "crotch" that brought the large headed cat into the world may go over the head of kids that haven't gotten to that part of the birds and bees discussion)
* Mild gross-out humor, including cartoonish autopsy in the second story
It depends on the kid; that's all I'm trying to say. It's probably a little more mature than Invader Zim, but nowhere near a PG-13 rating...and there's nothing in here that a kid wouldn't see (in a less humorous form) on the Discovery Channel.
Overall, the story was amusing in the off-kilter way that this author tends to write. If you liked Zim, you'll likely enjoy this.
Not for the cat lover on your gift list.......2007-01-16
First, very very funny book in a errilly twisted kind of way.
Second, do not get this as a gift for someone who loves cats.
short but good.......2007-01-12
its very short but its a good read, i got it for my little sister she likes the artist who draw this.
The Cat with a Really Big Head-but the other story is hilarious too!.......2005-08-16
This book is so worth having-I kept it on the coffee table and re-read it for weeks. The pictures are hilarious and the story at the end about the little dead girl following the pathologist was creepy but very funny!

A fun read!.......2007-01-18
Harriet Klausner always gives an excellent description of the storylines so I'll simply give my reactions to this book.
I finished it last night and I'm looking forward to seeing these characters again! I have very little time for reading lately but I couldn't put this one down. Lots of action..but it's easy to follow.
I like the sisters and especially their dad, Sean. The fact that the POV switches from sister to sister to dad was intriguing. I really liked it. The reader get's to know the characters though the eyes of the other main characters.
Sean's interaction with his daughters' boyfriends was very funny. Their investigative mission to search the victim's home was probably my favorite part of the book.
The characters in the "competition" were all hilarious and described in a manner that helped you keep them straight in your mind. If one of them wasn't based on a certain very popular "30 Minute" cooking television show I'll eat my keyboard. The victim was also very obviously based on a certain Domestic Diva. It was a real romp. I wish we'd seen more of the actual competition.
My quibbles would be the lousy editing. There were several times when "she" was used instead of "he" or vice versa. That kind of thing really stops the reader in her tracks. There were a couple of other errors but this was what really bothered me. I don't understand how such sloppy work gets through. I doubt it's the author. The problem is either with edit or set up. From reading reviews of her other books I see it's a pattern. Ms. Crawford needs to complain to the publisher loud and long.
Perhaps in an attempt to be attractive to all ages of readers, the ages of the sisters, Sean, and the contestants are not explained and that's something I like to have a handle on. There's a disconcerting conflict in the age description of one character, Pearl.
My only other complaint would be that the sisters seem to be too critcal of one another. At times they sound like my granddaughters, ages 11 and 9! If I want to be around that, all I have to do is drive my grands to ballet. While some conflict between two such diverse personalities is natural it goes a bit over the top at times.
It sounds as though I have a lot of complaints but they're all fairly minor. Except for a couple of instances of the girls quibbling I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I'd read it again...and I recommend that you read it!
A Catered Christmas.......2007-01-16
You will enjoy this from start to finish. This is a fun read. The characters really come to life in this cooking related mystery. You will enjoy the interaction between the two sisters that end up investigating the murder. The recipes are great that are included with the book. A tasty treat in more ways than one!
Skip it.......2007-01-12
This 'mystery' is drab, slow moving, and all-around irritating. The main characters are hardly likeable and the plotline is quite unbelievable. Once I got far enough into the book to realize it is not going to pick up or become any more entertaining, I felt trapped into skimming the rest of it just to find out 'whodunnit.' Pass on this series!
lively and entertaining amateur sleuth .......2005-09-28
In the town of LONGLELEY, sisters Bernie and Libby own the store and catering service, A Little Taste of Heaven; they are so well known that they are invited to compete in a cook off on the Hortense Calabash show. Six caterers are given ingredients chosen by the hostess and are supposed to make an entire meal out of them. The winner gets twenty thousand dollars which is donated to their favorite charity. On the first day of taping, the contestants hear a noise; they rush in to find Hortense dead on the floor, a Christmas ornament wedged into her throat.
The police discover that the stove's gas line was cut and Christmas ornaments were placed in the oven. When she opened the door, the oven sparked a causing a mini explosion. The police agree to keep Hortense's death quiet while they and Bernie and Libby search for the killer. Although Libby and Bernie solved homicides in the past (see A CATERED MURDER and A CATERED WEDDING), this murder has them stumped because all the contestants had a reason to kill Hortense except themselves.
A CATERED CHRISTMAS is a lively and entertaining amateur sleuth mystery filled with plenty of red herrings, unexpected twists and turns and deliberately planted false clues. The two sisters and their father engage in witty dialogue that will have readers chuckling out loud. The plot is believable, the characters are portrayed realistically and there is enough action to keep readers turning the pages to find out what happens next.

Margie Lapanja made a fortune baking and selling her Cowboy Cookies. She shares the chocolate, nut, oat, and coconut-studded recipe in Goddess in the Kitchen while urging you to bring more play and passion into your cooking. As one of many inspirational quotes in this book suggests, "Communion, union with divinity, is accomplished by means of food" (Thomas Moore, Care of the Soul). If Chicken Soup for the Soul is your cup of tea, then Goddess in the Kitchen is likely a cookbook for you.
Lapanja, a card-carrying member of the Wild Woman Association, is passionately dedicated to encouraging uninhibited behavior. Her indulgences--mostly benign--lean toward daydreaming about eating virtuously lean Mango Tapioca Pudding on a desert island, sipping champagne with buttery shortbread (a sweet once associated with the Celtic spring celebration Beltane), and the like. Before each recipe, she provides historical and mythological information, particularly about the earth-mother Demeter and other goddesses, or some New Age inspirational advice, often combined with provocative personal ramblings. Since Lapanja's motto is "Eat dessert first," many of her recipes focus on sweets.
Written in an all-out style, this is a book you will love or hate. It's for you if advice like "We need to fall back in love with our food, the cooking process, and ourselves" speaks to you, or if your heart melts at the true story of the passionate romance between a priest and an ex-nun who ultimately wed, had six children, and still love to linger over a bowl of Pasta with Ginger Shrimp Soul Sauce. --Dana Jacobi
Book Description
Margie Lapanja believes in awakening all the senses when it comes to eating, and for that matter, pre- and postprandial activities, too. In Romancing the Stove, she shares more than 100 of her favorite recipes along with goddess tales, practical tips, fascinating food facts, and a fine seasoning of quotes. Recipes range from the classic pain perdu a resourceful solution for bread that would otherwise go stale to the more unusual Love Apple Linguine, Cookie Dough Pancakes, Mango Tapioca Pudding, and Pumpkin Spice Muffins. This lively tribute to the sensual arts of cooking, loving, and living is illustrated throughout.

Delicious.......2002-06-20
Who ever reads a cookbook? I used my cookbooks to find recipes and skip through all the fluff. This is the first cookbook I've actually read and thats because it a celebration of life. light a candle, grab a good bottle of wine and cook.
Absolutely Amazing!.......2001-12-27
This book is an absolute treat! It's not just another cookbook -the delicious tales that go with the recepies are food for the imagination and for the soul, while fabulous and pretty simple recepies are wonderfully surprising treats for the tastebuds. I especially love the Cowboy Cookies which were a huge hit at my Christmas potluck party.
Great Recipes & Entertainment.......2001-05-30
The book has some really great recipes, hints, and is entertaining.
Nourishment!.......2000-08-19
This book is chock-full of luscious, easy to prepare recipes that delight all the senses. It transformed me from a one dish wonder to a gourmet gal! Margie Lapanja makes cooking a pleasure. The stories, trivia, folklore, and facts on food are astounding, quirky, amusing, and always interesting. I find it so wonderful to whip up a recipe and read an engaging tale while I wait for it to cook up in the oven or on the stove. This book helped me unleash my creative culinary skills and to discover the power of great food, lovingly prepared. I especially appreciate that this cookbook is just as appropriate for a skilled chef as well as the "can't boil water" set. It makes a great gift.
It does bring your family together........1999-05-07
I wouldn't of believed it...but it's true. Putting these dishes together brought a lovely spirit into our home. I actually had all the ingredients in my pantry for most of the recipes and they were easy to prepare and my family thought I was a goddess. DREAM PUFFS are a must when you want to show your kids just how much you love them in the kitchen. When I have to work a long day and need to get back in touch with the family, GODDESS IN THE KITCHEN is the cookbook I pull out first. Let the spirits in.

Terrific Service!.......2007-10-01
I received the book in excellent condition and very fast service. Thanks so much for such great service..
Amateurish.......2005-12-31
Although a few of the projects in this book look like they would come out well, I found most of them tacky, amateurish, and frankly, not very well-designed. I have several books on wire crafts, and this is by far the worst. I think that it is important to have good technique--for example, making round loops, avoiding leaving plier marks in the wire--and I found that in general, the projects were very poorly executed. In particular with regard to the more delicate projects, the person who made these left so many scratches and nicks on the wire that you could see the copper coming through the silver coating. Honestly, I would be embarassed to give some of the items in the photos as gifts because of the poor crafts(wo)manship. Other projects were just lame and seemed very flimsy. The cover project--wire-wrapped flatware--looks really cool and was ultimately the reason I bought the book. I haven't done the project, but I worry about whether it would survive normal use and washing. A much better book that has a variety of projects and will inspire creative thinking is Barbara McGuire's "Wire in Design." Read the reviews and see what I mean.
Love it! Love it! Love it!.......2005-09-24
Great book with some really creative ideas. Very detailed instructions and material lists. I can't wait to get started!
This book is wonderful!.......2002-02-15
I came across this book while shopping for fabric, couldn't afford it at the time but immediately put in my amazon wishlist. Of course having it delivered to work was a bad idea, I keep flipping through it and planning all the projects that I can't wait to work on! Not sure about the other reviews that mention materials being hard to find because I haven't started looking for them yet, but as a former art student and hardware store habitue, I don't plan to have any difficulties.
An excellent book for both beginners and the seasoned crafter, the instructions seem very easy to follow and it's full of great ideas. In fact, a local artist has devoted an entire store to selling handmade crafts VERY similar to those in the book...
Fantastic Projects Anyone Can Do.......2001-02-12
This beautiful book is full of fantastic projects anyone can do. Baskett walks the reader through each project with clear instructions, diagrams and photographs. The photographs are awe inspiring. You'll find jewelry, bottles, lamps and lampshades, picture frames, amazing baskets and candle holders.
Wire is inexpensive, now comes in many colors and gauges and is easily obtained. You'll be cranking out gifts in less than an hour. The recipients of my work could hardly believe I made it. Baskett's instruction makes it easy to be an artist

Book Description
Throughout her career, Carole Pope has blazed a trail for the diva and anti-diva in all of us, and here she offers a no-holds-barred look at her adventures in the music scene – on the concert stage, in the recording studio, and in the bedroom. Known for ushering Canada from the punk movement of the 1970s to the new wave sound of the 1980s with Rough Trade, she candidly shares her thoughts on AIDS, sexuality and sexual politics, and the new breed of music divas that dominates the charts today.

From the voice of the sacred and the profane!!.......2003-07-29
When I was a young and impressionable teen growing up in Canada, ROUGH TRADE's music and lyrics were my religion and empowerment.
Now the voice of that group who's recently gone solo and had her early works released on CD is telling her story of her life in fascinating detail. I've always wanted to know what she's been up to, and where she really came from, and here you'll find it all. Her story is also a fascinating trip through the fun decades of the 70's, and 80's with many colourful people of the time, and her heartbreaking relationship with the divine Dusty Springfield. Even if you never heard of Rough Trade (you have my pity), this is one biography that'll continue to inspire whether or not you are sexually confused, or an outsider in the generations to come.
