Book Description
Recent Duke University graduate Aaron Dinin has produced an entertaining, imaginative look at Krzyzewskiville, the tent city named after Duke University's head men's basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski (Sha-shef-ski). A unique Duke tradition, Krzyzewskiville is used to determine which students are admitted into key games. Taking Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales as his model, Dinin has created characters who narrate their semifictionalized tales—by turns reverent, bawdy, and humorous—to enlighten readers about this cherished institution.
So the story begins. On a wintry night in Durham, North Carolina, writes Dinin, twelve students huddle under the meager protection of a nylon tent. They have little in common except the sacrosanct tradition that has brought them together for the past month. Before the sun next sets, they will anoint themselves in blue and white paint and enter nearby Cameron Indoor Stadium to worship at the altar of Blue Devils basketball. In the meantime, they abide in Krzyzewskiville.
A stranger enters the tent, a respected sportswriter, and suggests that the tenters pass the hours until the next tent check by telling stories of Krzyzewskiville. Like Chaucer’s pilgrims, the students compete to tell the best tale. They report on ribald tenting exploits, relate a dream in which Duke basketball players and coaches test a fan’s loyalty, debate the rationality of tenting as a way of allocating students’ tickets, and describe the spontaneous tent city that sprang up one summer when their beloved “Coach K” was offered a job elsewhere. This storytelling competition creates a loving portrait of the complex rules and tribal customs that make up the rich community and loyal fans that are Krzyzewskiville.
Mickie Krzyzewski, Coach K’s wife and a familiar courtside figure at Duke basketball games, has contributed a foreword praising the “love, commitment, and ownership” of the citizens of Krzyzewskiville.

Tall Tales.......2007-05-14
Cute little take on the Cantabury Tales from the Duke point of view. This book is only for lovers of all things Duke.
The Krzyzewskiville Tales.......2007-02-10
As a Duke basketball fan I found this book interesting and it made me wish I could have gone to Duke and experienced it for myself. This book was the next best thing.
A converted Duke basketball fan.......2006-02-21
Though never having been a particularly big Duke basketball fan, I picked up a copy of this book upon a friend's advice, and am glad I did. It's an entertaining way to learn about the fascinating history of what everyone knows is a storied basketball dynasty (whether you like 'em or not, it's true). The stories are easy to read, but packed with relevant information, and I was able to breeze through the book in one sitdown while still feeling like I'd gained a lot of knowledge. I look forward to what Mr. Dinin writes next.
Witty and Entertaining.......2005-11-28
I thought the Krzyzewskiville Tales did just what it was supposed to do... I learned about Duke and K-ville, but in an entertaining way. I read some other review that said some negative stuff, but I just think those people didn't get the literary allusion. It's desgined in the style of Chaucer, and the book keeps true to that while still explaining the history of K-ville. As a Duke alumnus, I'm proud to have this wonderful tradition represented in such a creative way. And all my friends and family that I've bought it for have trully enjoyed it.
Maybe Book Burning Isn't Such a Bad Idea?.......2005-11-28
As a Duke student who has experienced K-Ville, I can honestly say this book is garbage. The review in Duke's paper saying that buying this book makes you a worse person was dead on. I just looked through it at Barnes and Noble, and even then I felt like my inclination for violent crime went up. Just pure and utter trash.
Book Description
When psychic librarian Ophelia Jensen is awakened in the middle of the night by an old friend, Rick, he amusingly asks, "Know where I can find a good witch?" But Ophelia soon learns that her friend needs help with a situation much more serious than his initial teasing suggests. Rick's friend's daughter has disappeared, and it seems that a strange pseudo–religious scientific cult the young woman recently joined may be responsible.
But Rick is having a hard time penetrating the secretive cult, and enlists Ophelia to help, hoping her magick skills and special knowledge will help uncover the mysteries of the suspect group. Ophelia and her kindly witch grandmother Abby jump at the chance to use their powers to help their friend, and travel to Minnesota to pose as vacationers. And with the help of a young psychic and a Native American Shaman they meet along the way, the witches hope to save the young womman before she's lost forever to the clutches of this harmful cult.

This time, the ladies take it to the road (Really 4.5 stars).......2007-10-02
When Abby and Ophelia learn that a young girl has disappeared in PSI, a remote Minnesota commune of psychics, the pair of witches take a vacation to see if they can help locate her. They are quickly joined by Ophelia's friend and employee, Darci, who loves an adventure as much as anyone.
What they discover is a small town with more secrets than just PSI, including a lakeside resident with a hit and run driving record, a Native American veteran with a justifiable anger at whites and a whole lot of shamanistic talent.
What breaks the trio's heart though is learning another young girl, Tink, silver haired and lavender eyed, with strong talents as a medium who is being drugged and spelled to keep her talents in check.
The trio are in a desperate race to solve the mystery of what PSI is about so they can save both missing girls--and ultimately themselves. "Trouble" is moving away from the tea cosy mystery where the books started and into a bit more heavy mystery-paranormal.
Character growth for both Ophelia and Darci is very well done. Ophelia is beginning to accept her own magical gifts and through her acceptance, we begin to learn how her magical heritage works as well. Darci is also coming into her own, through Ophelia's mentoring and showing herself to be a clever and intelligent person as well as a beautiful one.
The one-half star demerit is for a somewhat muddy plot. With the addition of so much local color and Tink's plight, their original purpose sometimes gets lost. However, this is still a very well-written and interesting book and a valuable addition to the series.
No Trouble Recommending This.......2007-06-26
Our basic ingredients here are a dubious psychic research establishment; a surly teenage girl; a Native American with mystical powers; a mysterious tramp, and a cottage that is corrupted by dark magic. And murder. Shake well and we get this excellent Ophelia and Abby mystery - the third in the series.
After receiving a telephone call from an old friend, Ophelia is persuaded to help search for a missing girl in deepest Minnesota. This is the first story in the series in which our heroines leave their hometown of Summerset. It's also the first story to put the more supernatural aspects of the main characters at the forefront of the action, and also the first in which Abby is more than just a bystander.
Shirley Damsgaard has written another gripping tale that will have new and existing fans hooked. For those who haven't read either of this novel's predecessors, the series fits into the `cozy' category. It's not a difficult read, and if you're after challenging literature, this is not for you. However, if you're just after a good yarn to while away a few hours, this is very entertaining reading. It's not necessary to read the first two novels in the series (`Witch Way to Murder' and `Charmed to Death') before reading this novel, but passing references are made to events in those stories.
A must read for all Shirley Damsgaard fans!.......2007-06-15
Another great Ophelia and Abby mystery. I really enjoy the relationship between this grandmother and granddaughter. The mystery is clever and well plotted and the characters are so well developed that you really come to care for them and wonder what is in store next. And of course that is what makes a good writer keep her fans coming back for more. This time Ophelia and Abby are ask by a friend to help find a missing teenager and this takes them on a trip to a lake in Minnesota and a rustic cabin in the woods. They encounter new age research being done by a local couple and they have charge of a young niece who they say pushed her mother to her death when she was five. Then we have a bizarre local murder that complicates things and toss in a mysterious Native American shaman to the mix and just for fun a demon. Then you have the perfect mix for a great page turner and a must read for all Ophelia and Abby fans.
The Trouble with Witches.......2007-04-09
This book was by far the best in the series!~ It left me wanting more!~
A cozy mystery series.......2007-01-11
This series is turning out to be very enjoyable. Well written, likeable characters, fun hometown, interesting situations. This one in particular even got me through a bout of the 'flu -- it has to be good to hold my attention when I'm sick, feverish, aching and restless. My friends and I exchange books (money for non-essentials being hard to come by), and this is one series they always ask, "Is the next one out yet?" If you enjoy cozy mysteries, this is the series for you.

Castle Perilous had been a universe unto itself until it started living up to its name. Now it is a gateway to thousands of universes, each increasingly bizarre and more bewildering. Behind every door there is a room for every fantasy and around each corner a perilous journey for every inhabitant. With its population sent to otherworldly realms and demented demons taking their place, will anyone find their way home in time? The stone walls may be the only stable element in this fantastic fable, as time and place disappear before one's eyes. Pandora's box has never been so big!
Customer Reviews:
Castle for Rent.......2002-12-21
almost funnier than the first. however, if you didnt read castle perilous.....somethings will confuse you as this is the sequel to it.
Give it a second..........2002-03-07
A worthy sequal to the great Castle Perlious book and the second novel in an eight book series. Castle for Rent takes right off in an almost disorientating way if being read from a cold start. As with most series it's recomended that a reader read all the books in the correct order. For maximum enjoyment familarize yourself with Castle Perlious first.
That being said, Castle for Rent is presented in a very readable and highly enjoyable way. Filled with DeChancies own humor/fantasy style in a masterful example of a "read in one sitting" book. Like many of the Castle books, a reader can easily read for two hours without realizing it. The character development and storyline evolve in a wonderfully smooth manner after the first chapter or so.
Highly Reccomended for any fan of Douglas Adams stories, Terry Gilliam films or any person who appreciates "smart comedy" that refuses to take itself seriously.

Unique Homes for Vacationing.......2006-04-24
I've not yet taken my dream vacation to a tower in Southampton or to the thatched cottage in North Cornwall. Having this book to read about the landmark homes that are available for vacation rentals makes it all seem possible. Someday, I'm going to take that trip.
The version I have contains black and white photos of the properties, floor plans, regional maps and enticing descriptions. These are really unique places to stay and often large enough to get your whole family together for a stay.

This book is an excellent reference guide for what ails you. I have recently used the cold remedies and found them more effective than over the counter remedies. The best part is that the suggestions are easily obtained.
The People's Pharmacy by Joe Graedon.......2003-07-21
This is an excellent reference work. The author defines a
typical drug and explains the FDA process of oversight. For
a variety of drugs, he explains the benefits, as well as
the downside. There are extensive sections on adverse drug
reactions. Toward the end of the book, the author explains
how to save money on drugs and safe self-treatment programs.
Overall, the book is a valuable addition to any personal

Customer Reviews:
Proper Vegetarian Entertaining!.......2007-01-10
Being vegetarian I think that good presentation isn't only for meat-eaters! One of the main reasons I enrolled in culinary school is because I like to entertain my friends over food and drink -- always vegetarian. I recieved this book as a Christmas gift and I used a few recipes for our housewarming dinner party. The results were fantastic and having great photos were very helpful for improving my presentation skills.
The ingredients for the recipes were easy to find, looked and tasted fantastic. My party was a success and I look forward to using Noraika's book as an aid for future dinner parties.
Looks Great/Tastes Bland.......2006-06-11
I bought this book because I think food presentation is important and prefer to have cookbooks with foods that both taste AND look good. There weren't many vegetarian cookbooks on the shelves, but this one really stood out.
That said, a lot of the recipes are great places to start. But I've found that many taste rather bland. This may be because I am used to recipes that call for a healthy amount of seasoning. This book tends to let the flavor of the vegetables exist alone. I do love taking the original recipe and adding my own mixes of seasoning though. I just wish the originals were a bit more flavorful.
Really fabulous recipes........2004-01-04
While the number of recipes in this full-color cookbook is limited, the selections are wonderful. As a vegetarian, it's sometimes hard to find suitable menu ideas for entertaining, but this has me wanting to throw dinner parties. I've made about a third of them and have always been impressed. The roasted squash risotto has become a regular at our dinner table! But while the blue cheese phyllo rolls are good, they aren't very attractive--the cheese bubbles out of the corners, creating a tasty but unpresentable dish.

Peacemakers: Arms And Adventure In The American West.......2007-01-20
This book was one of the best purchases I have ever made! Already it has given me hours of entertainment, new knowledge of the west, and new insights in areas I had not before looked into.
The photography, and the items pictured, are worth the price of the book alone.
Overall an excellent book!!! And worth every penny!

Western Single Actions.......2007-01-16
The book is full of color pictures of the guns used in the west and has exhibits from many of the western museums. It is not just a study of the Colt Single Action Army but covers rifles and shotguns. It displays the guns that are documented as being used by the lawmen and gunfighters of the time.
Another great from R. L. Wilson.......2005-09-30
Another great book from R.L. Wilson. Every bit as entertaining and informative as the others he's wrote. Fun to read about the old west and the guns used to tame it.
Fascinating and beautiful book ...........2004-12-10
My gun loving son, cried when his teacher would not let him bring this book to school to show his friends. It's absolutely gorgeous with an interesting text and glorious photos. We love the section showing the actors and their screen guns.
The best book on Old West guns.......2000-03-22
This book is one of the most beatiful I have seen. If you like cowboy guns, buy this book. The extraordinary amount of information provided on the text is surpassed only by the quality and variety of the pictures. The book is divided in chapters coverring all aspects of the life during the period, and gives special details on guns of famous men. It is a great source for all cowboy shooters and gun collectors.

Meet the Impatient Beader
Margot Potter is a woman of many talents...author, designer, actress, vocalist, poet, songwriter, TV personality, thrift store treasure repurposer and mom to the world's coolest kid. She resides with her family, a flock of pecky chickens and a snarky, barky terrier named Mrs. Fellerbee near Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Having completed the world's sparkliest tiara, Margot is now hard at work on the world's largest ball of string...ok, not really...but she is busy packing her bags for a new adventure.
Customer Reviews:
Cute - Fun - Cute - Fun.......2007-09-25
Margot Potter's Impatient Beader books are all about beading fun and reflect her wide variety of interests. A QVC jewelry line spokesperson, her obvious joy in creation extends to her chapter headings: "All Hail the Bead Queen," "Wild Women," and "Brave New Girls." She gives a quick and thorough step-by-step guide on techniques at the outset which includes how to attach a crimp tube, open and close a jump ring, turn a loop in a head pin, how to use a wire guardian, and make a wrapped loop. These instructions are followed by numerous, whimsical projects, none of which will tax the novice beader.
Fun & Informative.......2007-01-29
What a great follow-up to Margot Potter's first book. This one is also filled with inspiration and humor. If you are a new beader, start with the first one. If you are a seasoned beader, you'll enjoy this book very much!
Impatiently Creative!.......2007-01-10
The 1st edition of Impatient Beader is one of my favorite book in beading. The 2nd edition is even better! Margot Potter is absolutely creative in combining materials and creating outstanding projects. With her, beads are not only apply as jewellry and accesories. More than that, you can use beads in creating t'shirts, pins and other crafty projects. However I find the 2nd edition is more to advance level. For beginners, before you jump impatiently to this book, I suggest you to start with the 1st book.
Another fabulicious beading book by Margot Potter!.......2007-01-04
Margot's bead designs are just as vibrant, shiny and sparkly as her heart. I'm amazed at all the colorful energy she pours into each new book, such as "IB Gets Inspired". Each project is original, edgy - yet classy and chic too. The chapters in this book are sorted by personality and they come with cute and kitschy visuals, directions and illustrations. As a craft columnist, I see a lot of craft books on the market and I find Margot's among the best because of her playful kitty kat style and sense of humor!! This book is a treasure, buy a copy and have fun with it!!
Key word: INSPIRATION! ...with a dash of sass and wit!.......2006-08-13
Margot Potter's second craft and jewelry book, THE IMPATIENT BEADER GETS INSPIRED!, is an appealingly written, informative collection of ideas and techniques designed to encourage the inner artist in all of us to wake up, look about at the world and create! As a jewelry designer,I was enthralled by every page of this book. More than once I found myself interested in the more crafty projects, which are not within my specific arena. THAT IS HOW GOOD MARGOT POTTER IS! She makes you want to do things you don't normally do. She is so vibrant and encouraging! Additionally, her projects are inventive and original, yet not so very difficult that you couldn't try something you have always wished to take a shot at (like soldering, or polymer clay). She works with fabric, feathers, polymer clay, wall paper, vintage magazines, grommets, Mod Podge, traditional jewelry findings and you name it!!! You have to read it to believe it, and I guarantee you, you will love it!
I was happy to see that she continues to categorize her projects from easy to difficult ("crafty virgin", "crafty vixen", "crafty goddess"), and to give excellent "patience booster" tips. This is so helpful.
Additionally, however, she has added a new measure of fun by give the reader chapters such as "Wild Women" and "Brave New Girls". Her trademark little Margot cartoon has a cute and appropriate change of clothes for each of these chapters. I love this!
Margot Potter is a very fascinating teacher. Her projects are uniformly cool, well thought out, and always, when she addresses color, you learn something new. This is one of my favorite things about her projects. I spent a long time looking at her wallpaper earrings (terrific!), her net bracelet, ALL of her bags and pocketbooks (WOW!) and my special favorite, her advertastic earrings.
I was pleased to see that the basic tools and tutorials required for anyone to utilize this book properly are right up there in the front, pure and simple.
I was also happy to read some inspiring quotes from people as diverse as Mark Twain to Dorothy Parker.
When you enter Margot Potter's world via this book, you truly come away energized! I found THE IMPATIENT BEADER GETS INSPIRED! to be worth my time and money! I know I will read it over and over, and get something fresh and different out of it every time!

Customer Reviews:
Even more of Margot's fun.......2007-09-25
Margot Potter spends these pages on how to use glittering Swarovski crystals in jewelry projects AND a purse, an embellished tank top and denim jacket, a lunch pail, a cell phone pouch, and a hat band. The "discriminating diva" who completes and wears Margot's many projects will need to issue sunglasses to all who may encounter her. Margot shows originality in her chapter headings as well as in the projects themselves: "Girlie Girl," "Diva in Training," "Rock Star." Oh, how fun!
Margot is at it again!.......2007-09-09
Margot's third book is a breath of fresh air. Loaded with personality and wit, Margot's designs in this book are as irreverant as she is. If you enjoyed her first two books, you'll love this one. If you haven't tried any of The Impatient Beader books, treat yourself. You'll be glad you did.
Sparkletastic is Margotastic!.......2007-09-09
If anyone has bunches of jewelry supplies and tons of scrapbooking supplies, this is the ideal book of wonderful, fun and funky designs! I love the use of all of the varied supplies to make not only super jewelry, but ipod cases, cell phone cases and wearables!
Miss Potter's fun facts for the chapters are such a blast and are very timely. Even if you don't see yourself as a rock star, there are enough ideas to get you going in any direction you want.
I love the enumerated photography that allows you to follow along and not at any time be confused as to how to follow through to a successful end!
Some of my favorite projects that I want to try are the Feel Lucky Bracelet, the Squirm Choker, the Film Noir Bracelet, Pirate Jenny Charm Bracelet (how can you go wrong with someting that spells out "Sassy"?).
The projects are ones that I can create for myself, for gifts and with my nieces. I also love how Margot notes some of her "mistakes" and why she did the things she did-it makes me feel like I create things on my own, mistakes turn into innovation!
I've got just about every "how to" book that there is and I truly enjoyed this one and am inspired to try them out.
Sparkletastic is Fantastic!!!.......2007-06-14
I could hardly wait to receive my copy of The Impatient Beader presents Sparkletastic, because I adore my first two Impatient Beader books which are in this series! I am so glad I was patient--what a reward! Sparkletastic is so much FUN! Margot Potter has such fabulous creativity! Her designs are unique and edgy, yet never silly. They always make sense and are always pretty! The author is extremely knowledgeable about the history of fashion. She also knows about important women in history, and celebrates each and every one of us, explaining the benefits of why we should be ourselves.
In Sparkletastic, she expresses her ingenuity, creating fascinatingly beautiful jewelry and craft designs, all of which have an additional fillip of sass: each project has some sort of shine or glitter in some form or another!
I was so charged when I read this book! It was great to see that the author has used Swarovskis, glitter, disco ball beads, flat backs and hot fix crystals..oh--you name it--if it sparkles, she used it, and she used it WELL, and for a good reason!
I loved the fact that Margot still has her "virgin, vixen, and goddess" (beginner, intermediate, and advanced) categories for her projects...only this time they are "Sparkly Virgin," and so on. These categories, as well as the explanations of beading basics, which are well photographed and are located at the beginning of the book, are very helpful. For example, I am a beader, not a crafter, but because I can see simply portrayed photos of how to create some of my favorite projects from the book, with even more good hints right at the beginning, I can plan to make some cool things for my wardrobe, such as The Rodeo Girl Jacket, which is a complete knockout of a studded jean jacket with a picture of a vintage rodeo girl on the back. You have to love it!
Other projects I found appealing were the colorful and charming Marilyn necklace, named for Marilyn Monroe, and the Disco Monkey T-shirt, which had a mistake the author "fixed" (you never would have realized)! Then she discusses the mistake in a sidebar, one of a few sprinkled throughout the book which she has called "true confessions." These "true confessions" are very humanizing and also plain fun to read. Hey, we all mess up! It's life! It is a good way of teaching the reader what NOT to do! It also shows you how to fix mistakes you have made.
As for projects, I also adored two of what I think exemplify the author's specialties, which is her amazingly inventive way she redoes something classic and makes it new and hip, like a charm bracelet. For example, "The Sweetie Pie Charm Bracelet," which is enchanting, or "The Pirate Jenny Charm Bracelet" with its skulls and crossbones and wonderfully appealing color combinations.
I don't have a baby on the way at the moment, but the "Oh Bebe Onesie" is a fabulous gift to bring to a shower! It is totally charming.
Finally, another project I LOVED is the necklace "Hearts in Chains" : a true work of art! I loved, loved, LOVED this hip necklace, and totally plan to make and wear this!
Margot Potter is an amazing source of energy and inspiration. She quotes famous, successful women who have overcome difficulties, and gone on to savor life; she shows her own vulnerabilities and her delightful sense of humor, both of which add a reality to her wonderful collection of projects, and it is impossible not to love her and her new book, Sparkletastic. We will all shine on, if we own this book! Thank you, Margot! As it says on the back of the book, "Viva La Sparkle!"

Book Description
Known for making furniture sculptures out of laminate and painted wood, Richard Artschwager here picks up a pencil and draws. For the first time, a large selection of the artist's works on paper appear in print, testing his object-based criticism of illusionism and symbolic meaning. Made between 1960 and 2000, these drawings and paintings range in subject, including recent portraits that bear an unsettling intensity.
