James Redfield continues to offer further spiritual insights after writing The Celestine Prophecy and The Tenth Insight: Holding the Vision (Celestine Prophecy)which are two fabulous books on spiritual adventure and transformation.
This book is the Eleventh Insight and takes place in Tibet and we are offered a glimpse of a spiritual worldview that holds harmony between people and nature and where spirituality guides all aspects of life. It isn't something you do on certain days but it is lived in daily interactions. Way of the Peaceful Warrior: A Book That Changes Lives is also another wonderful book.
All these books offer a vision for a new world based on higher spiritual principles. A current book that furthers the spiritual vision is called Nexus: A Neo Novel. We can share in its insights and let our friends know about it. Through these inspiring books we can change lives.
Raves for Shambhala.......2007-05-07
This is my second copy of this book. Redfield has created another winner. It's not so much about the culmination of the journey, but the journey itself. Chapter three was illuminating with discussing diet as an important part of the path to enlightenment, yet other books on spiritual matters don't seem to approach this concept.
Highly repetative - mildy interesting........2007-01-21
Unlike Redfields previous two books, The Secret of Shambhala was more of the same, told in every angle, for 250 pages.
The dialogue between the characters was very basic and they lacked any depth in personality. Throughout the book, redfield merely walked his characters to new locations, rehashed what needed to be learned in order to "proceed" and occasionally attempted to mix things up with an already overused (in the celestine prophecy and 10th insight) chase by goverment officials, resulting in a highly anti climatic end where the main character finds shambhala.
Although Redfield conveyed some interesting themes, such as prayer fields, he could have done so in a more origional and interesting fashion.
I would only reccomend this book if you have read Redfields previous two books and dont mind his repetative style of writing.

The "Rowan Gant Investigation" series by M.R. Sellars is an excellent mystery/suspense/crime series. Mr. Sellars's writing style is a bit different than most other authors' but it makes for compelling, page-turning drama. Every time I pick up one of his books, it's nearly impossible for me to put it down. This particular installation brings into focus the idea that whatever you send out will come back to you three times over. And, oh boy, does something come back for one of the characters!
Pick up the series if you want a great summer read!

MR Sellars is a deliciously addictive author. The Law of Three is his best work yet (although I'm sure I'll ammend that once I finish Crones Moon- the first two chapters are certainly promising!) Anyone looking for a spine tingling whirl wind of a read is sure to find MR Sellars works to be superb. The only negative thing I can say is that they just don't come out fast enough- but like all good things- they're WELL worth the wait!

What a roller coaster of a book - I literally could not put it down until the very last page. Good plot, great characters and the witches are the GOOD guys for once. A must read, but only with the lights on!
Excellent Book.......2004-02-18
This is a great series of mystery books that deal with Witchcraft in a very respectable way. The main characters are witches who help the law decipher occult symbols found at a St.Louis murder site. It's a fairly realistic portrayal of wiccans. Christians won't approve, but the book gets heavily into the craft and it's tenants.
Check this one out, it was a rollercoaster ride.
A Great Scary Read.......2003-12-06
I have just finished this book and really loved it! Once again, M.R. Sellars has scared me silly. I think the thing that makes the Rowan Gant series so good a read is that unlike some books that have fantastical bad guys, trolls, and wizards (oh my) he gives us rather ordinary folks and completely plausiable bad guys. There really are crazy fanatics in the world, we all know it. Sellars just shows us what they are capable of doing. Read it with the lights on!

Mildly disappointing.......2007-04-07
This is the second book of the chronicles of The Vampire Genevieve, and is actually composed of three independent short stories only loosely tied together. I didn't enjoy this one as much as I did Drachenfels. The three short stories just don't develop to the same scope as Yeovil's first Warhammer novel. Nevertheless, this book is very enjoyable and won't disappoint Warhammer fans who're looking for something a bit darker than you get from most fantasy books. Many of the scenes here are downright disturbing.
The fist story, Stage Blood, is highly similar to the novel Drachenfels, with many of the same characters (including Deitlef Seirk) and having a theatre theme. Drachenfel's mask retains its creator hatred for the heroes and sets out to do them in. The danger is not as potent as in the first novel, but the characters are just as realistic and likable. An unlikely hero emerges in the form of a chaos-altered (but kind-hearted) mutant.
The second story reads like a mystery/horror, with Genevieve becoming lost in some kind of bizarre dream-like haunted house where murders occur regularly but without long term effect. Some of the most disturbing and graphic scenes of any novel I've ever read are found in this story. I liked it a lot, but it was fairly anticlimactic.
The final story, Unicorn Ivory, is my least favorite. Here Yeovil introduces some deeply disturbed individuals with some rather strange behaviours (like hunting real people) and impulses. Genevieve has been blackmailed into murdering Graf Rudiger, but she needs to find out more about his before she is willing to. Hunters are sort of made out to be a bit evil in this one, killing unicorns just for the sake of the kill. It is only a so-so story in my book.
Overall, this novel is mildly disappointing, not having much depth and not really contributing too much to Genevieve's character or the greater story of her finding purpose in life.
More fantastic fantasy from Kim Newman........2002-03-14
Genevieve (Drachenfels and Anno Dracula) Returns in this reprint. This book is three linked novellas which follow Genevieve from her departure from Altdorf into Tilea, and finally into the Drak Wald. The first story Stage Blood is a follow up of Drachenfels. This is the best story of the three, and Detlef Sierck once again steals the show. The Cold Stark House seems to follow a theme I noticed in Drachenfels, Which is taking something commonplace in our world and reproducing it Warhammer style. While Drachenfels dealt with the theatre Cold Stark House puts a delightful dark fantasy twist on the soap opera. Unicorn Ivory has Genevieve discovering new aspects about herself and darkens her character. All in All this is a fantastic book and a worthy addition to any library.

I am an Illinois legal aid attorney and owner of Southwest Medicals, an online medical supply and equipment business. I strongly recommend this book. Very informative, full of helpful tips and resources. This book helps make a challenging situation much easier. I also recommend The Comfort of Home, An Illustrated Step by Setp Guide for Caregivers, 2nd Edition, by Maria M Meyer.
Developing a Care Plan.......2002-08-22
My brother and I take care of my eighty-year-old mother. She has
diabetic neuropathy and can't walk. But she's a good kid and
we take care of her. This book has helped. Although the object of the book at first seems to be to develop a care plan; it really is a book of primary skills that you need in caregiving.
The book is best because you are not overwhelmed with 465 ways
to help your loved one. This is a primary and basic skills book.
Buy this book if you are new at caregiving and don't know where to start. Because the American Medical Associarion wrote it, I imagine that it would be good for all caregivers to buy it. I just love this book. It's like a Boy Scout manual. It's user-friendly for your brain. And sometimes simplicity can do more good that needless complications and theories. Pretty Good Guide.......2007-03-05
Fans of fast and powerful high performance cars - the muscle cars - will love the Muscle Cars Field Guide. Rather than just focusing on the Golden Age of Muscle Cars, John Gunnell shares information about literally hundreds of different cars from the 60s through the 90s.
Gunnell lists historical information about the cars, as well as the original prices of muscle cars and values of current ones. Because the Camaro is about to be reintroduced by Chevrolet, I found this section especially interesting.
You can enjoy this book from many perspectives: as a nostalgic and sentimental look at cars from America's past; as a way to discover more about what powers our transportation; or as a way to imagine the appearance and performance of future vehicles. In any case, we highly recommend John Gunnell's Muscle Cars Field Guide.
Trip down 'memory lane'! Fantastic field guide!.......2006-02-21
This great little book will transport you back to a time where 475 horsepower V8 American 'muscle cars' cost about 3 to 4 thousand dollars, and did 0-60 in 6 seconds or under! If words like 'Hemi', 'Ram Air', and 'Rocket 455' give you goosebumps, you know what I mean. Excellent full page photos and stats as well! Easily 5 stars.

Carving Landscapes.......2006-03-13
If you are into carving landscapes then you will learn a good deal about carving techniques. Learn how to carve various materials used in structures you are trying to represent. Lora Irish is one of my favorite designers and I feel this book is worth its cost. I cannot over emphasize the need for quality carving tools and proper procedures for keeping them sharp.
What you see is not quite what you get.......2003-08-17
I initially chose this book because of it's very nice illustrations. My mistake was in buying this as my first relief book. I assumed that the step-by-step instructions for the sample project, Mountain View Farm, would be geared towards beginners since it was, after all, broken into steps with corresponding photos. Not quite.
Now, in her defense, Lora Irish does cover the basics of relief carving, however, I found it to be too general for a beginner. Also, I often found myself tripping over slight contradictions between what the author instructs you to do and what she actually does. This is especially a problem if you use the picture on the back cover for reference, which is a slightly different version of this project. Carvers more familiar with the process might not have a problem here, but for a beginner who hangs on every detail of the example, like myself, he or she might become frustrated.
Lastly, I would have preferred that the entire lesson's scene been included in the process (the waterwheel, water, and reflection elements are left out) so as to have an opportunity to get familiar with creating the water's illusion of depth and the use of reflections. The good news is, the picture on the back cover is the full scene, you'll just have to figure out how to do the waterwheel yourself.
In conclusion, if you have a bit of carving experience and are looking for a refresher course or beautifully illustrated patterns this book is worth looking into; if you are looking for a beginner's guide to relief carving, you might want to look elsewhere.
Neither fish nor fowl.......2001-04-28
While I am a great fan of L.S. Irish as an artist, her newest book falls far short of being of the same caliber as her art. If it is intended for novices, it lack sufficient detail. If it is for intermediate or advanced carvers, it wastes far too many pages on the basics. It has 32 nice patterns which are mostly variations on the theme of old barns in the woods. One of the projects in the book can be downloaded from her website FREE. Last of all, many of the photos are in color. However, it looks as if the photographer used daylight film under incandescent lights because all of the photos are yellow-red. This makes it impossible to appreciate the sections on painting the carvings. All in all, I cannot recommend this book.

The new dating compares favorably with prior studies that utilized radiocarbon, adding additional support to the assumption that fan and terrace formation are strongly linked to deglaciation. Fan and terrace denudation rates are so rapid in this region, averaging ~33mm/yr, that no depositional landforms older than 5ka are preserved within 250m of the valley floor. In this region, high rates of denudation during the Late Quaternary are driven by a combination of rapid tectonic uplift, numerous glacial fluctuations and intense weathering driven by an active monsoon climate. Extensive reworking of glacigenic sediments in Langtang during the latter half of the Holocene is consistent with studies completed in other areas of the Himalaya that are strongly influenced by the monsoon.

Hasui sings to me, whispers to me. I can feel the drizzle on my skin after looking at his work. Dr Brown captures that and a lot more. He has an expert's eye on a subject so often ignored and more than anything else, I appreciate his decision to publish a much needed volume on hasui. I've had the unique pleasure of taking a class under Dr. Brown and his easy demeanour beats the perception his authority on hasui might create. He brings a similar ease to his book. It talks to the experienced hasui collector, the enthusiastic student or just someone plain curious. His insight, although pretty unchallenged, is still quite enlightening and authoritative due to his empathy with the subject and its background and his experience as such. It was about time someone explored Hasui in words and we are lucky to read it in Dr. brown's words.

The abstract paintings of the American artist Jackson Pollock (1912-1956) are among the highest achievements of 20th century art. One of Pollock's masterpieces, "Blue Poles," is an American painting which has become an Australian icon. A key part of the art history of Australia, its controversial purchase in 1973 by the National Gallery of Australia was a sign for some of Australia's economic and cultural dependence on the United States. For others it was a sign that Australia was entering a new world in which traditional ties could be broken, and cultural and economic allegiances were open to negotiation.
This catalogue brings together a selection of Pollock's works that help to situate "Blue Poles" in the broader development of the artist's career. Ranging in date from 1933 to 1952 and covering painting, drawing, and printmaking, the works show the diversity of Pollock's interests, which included Mexican mural painting, French Surrealism, and Native American art.
The essays look at "Blue Poles" from three different perspectives. The introduction examines the artist's life and work leading up to 1952, followed by a discussion of "Blue Poles" and its place in Pollock's oeuvre. Another essay discusses the first exhibition of the painting in new York in 1952 and identifies an important shift that was taking place in the artist's work. The last essay takes a personal look at the reception of "Blue Poles" in the United States and Australia from 1970s to the present.

For those of us who knew only that this great and gifted Renaissance man had fallen out of political favor of a paranoid United States, this is a great opportunity to see who he really was. Written by his son, this first volume study of Paul Robeson's life is replete with photographs, diary entries, and correspondence of the type only a family member might have. Paul Robeson Jr. spent a good part of his formative years away from his famous parents, and his view of their sometimes strained marriage, held together primarily by their preoccupation with Robeson's career, is remarkably detatched. This is an excellent snapshot of an era when the life of a black artist was complicated by American racism, and the tremendous intellect of a thoughtful genius who had his own views of the world could be stifled by an America unwilling to open its mind.
A must read for anyone wishing to understand this aspect of African America in the 20th century. I look forward eagerly to the second volume.

What an outstanding book about a dazzling man that can only bring pride to every American, joy to anyone hearing him sing, and praise knowing his full life story.
The book finally shows that Paul Robeson is an icon far beyond his time. He could have lived just the good life based on his talents in academics, entertainment and sports. Robeson earning a comfortable life of opulence with his talents his first 40 years only to give it away to stand up to the injustices he saw in America and the world. He practice when you are given much in life you must give back even more and he did losing much for his show of valance.
If you ever heard the English words of the Soviet Anthem sung by Robeson, you understand the meaning of justice in life. It must be remembered that this was when Russia along with Ghandi in India were opposing Nazi Germany in Spain, Fascist Italy in Ethiopia and Colonialism in Africa and Asia.
Robeson was for equality, fairness and civility. They opposed Fascism, Colonialism and Racism just like many came to do in the West, but at a much later date. Robeson never accepted the atrocities of Stalin and indeed never met him. In fact, many of Robeson's friends in Russia were actually purged and murdered by Stalin.
Consequently, by becoming the most popular singer in Russia in 1930's and supporter of Russia against Hitler in the 1940's actually branded you an archenemy of America in the 1950's. A terrible sad situation but very true. In the end, this yeoman of ability and audacity was wrongly put on many blacklists that forced his legend into the entertainment and political dump heap of oblivion.
Later there is no doubt that the courageous deeds of Paul Robeson only spawn the acts of Dr. Martin Luther King. These same people led the changes in America that were required so opportiunbities for all replaced the discrimination of the many. The same thing can be said to have happen in Russia when Stalinist's policies were finally exposed for the treachery and exploitation to enslave minds instead of freeing them. The book proclaims the costs of calling real heroes traitors for seeking to oppose the power of such tyranny.
Paul Robeson is to be admire as much as any person in America. He is my favorite singer and after reading this book you will see few men could equal his talent and even fewer his grit. I highly recommend this book and hope it in made into a movie.

I highly recommend "The Undiscovered Paul Robeson" because it provides insightful information for both those readers who know a lot about Paul Robeson and those who do not. One of the most significant figures of the 20th century, this book paints a definitive picture of the key influences of his formative years. Born in 1898, he was raised by his minister father (who was an escaped slave)in the African-American church culture. The book shows how he became a football star,and an internationally famous concert singer and actor who dedicated his art to the struggles of his people for full equality. The book is particularly interesting because it uses Paul Robeson's own words as culled from his diaries, correspondence, and personal conversations with his son and other intimates, and from his wife's diaries. Paul Robeson legacy is important for us to know about. He helped to change the racial stereotype prevalent in the first half of the 20th century by presenting a dignified male image on stage and off; he was the first artist to legitimize spirituals as significant concert material; and he always reflected the dual image of an African-American rooted in his own culture who simultaneously believed in the oneness of the human spirit worldwide. More Americans need to know more about Paul Robeson!

I found The Undiscovered Paul Robeson is educational to those who don't understand the way the world use to be. The information provided by his son Paul Robeson Jr was right on point looking back into history. I've learned alot about how the entertainment business can work for you and then against you in a matter of speaking. Reading this book taught me how to forget what people say about you and to acheive to your highest goal ever. I found it enlightening, somewhat humorous at times and a must read book for our African-Americans worldwide. I highly recommend this book to learn about our African-American Heritage.

Undiscovered Paul Robeson provides a biography of artist Robeson from 1898-1939, providing a fuller view of not just the man's contributions, but his psyche and family life. Other titles have focused on his role as actor, singer, activist: this probes his youth, his initial resistance to politics, his associates. A revealing biography, Undiscovered Paul Robeson is very highly recommended for Robeson fans.
