Delaney Shaw plans to get in and out of her hometown in the time it takes to attend her stepfather Henry's funeral, read the will, and refill the tank of her Miata. Even the pleas of her mother and the tension of an unfinished fling with Henry's bastard son, Nick Allegrezza, can't keep her in Truly, Idaho. But Henry had other plans in mind: Nick and Delaney's inheritance is contingent on her staying in Truly for a year, and him having no "sexual relationship" with Delaney. What's a girl to do? Delaney digs in, starts up a hair salon and prepares to grit her teeth for as long as it takes.

Small-town life is everything that Delaney fears it to be: high school rivalries and old rumors about Delaney and Nick resurrect themselves with predictable immediacy. Gossip nears the truth as the sexual sparks fly between Nick and Delaney. Nick's reputation as a ladies man hasn't changed, either, and Delaney reminds herself that he can love her and leave her just as brutally as he did 10 years ago. But when the two find themselves in close proximity, all their best intentions fly out the window and intense passion consumes them.

Truly Madly Yours has the same originality and sauciness that made Rachel Gibson's first work, Simply Irresistible, popular with readers. While each page brings a new take on the familiar "black sheep, old flame" plot, the main characters are at times a bit unappealing. Delaney's unqualified disgust for Truly becomes a tired mantra and no amount of biker jackets and muttered "wild things" can neutralize Nick's anachronistic womanizing. Gibson wisely focuses her attention on clever dialogue and original situations, and the overall result is a delightful and completely entertaining read. --Nancy R.E. O'Brien

5 out of 5 stars simply the best.......2007-08-23

This is my favoite RG book. Delaney & Nick are by far my favorite hero and heroine. I read Tangled Up in You just to see if they were in it.

4 out of 5 stars Almost a five star.......2007-08-10

I really liked this book. It had it's good and bad points. Delaney returns to town after 10 years for her stepfather's funeral. She left at 18 after being caught with bad boy Nick, her stepdad's illegitimate son. When she went away to college she finally got a chance to live her life and make her own mistakes without her overbearing, controlling parents interferring. She went wild and dropped out of college and lived a vagabond life moving from town to town looking for the perfect place and job. She returns to Truly, Idaho for her stepfather's funeral and some really crazy stipulations in his will if she wants to inherit.

I liked the heroine Delaney. She was funny and down to earth even though I wished she would have put her mother in her place. Now Nick I loved and hated. He could be a real jerk one minute and really sweet the next. The main problem I had with him is that after being with Delaney it is alluded to that he is still with other women. I understood him still running around with women before they got together but afterward he refused to committ to just Delaney and references were made that he spent time with another woman. End the end I thought his carousing ways should have been addressed. He admits he could never be with just one woman nor would he want to. So while I love books with alpha male characters who are finally tamed, I just didn't see that happening with Nick. But overall this is a great book.

5 out of 5 stars Easy Fun Read........2007-07-11

This book was easy to read and had a cute story. Yes, it is predictable and all that fun stuff but I enjoyed it and I would recommend it to a friend!

5 out of 5 stars One of her best.......2007-06-27

I have read every Rachel Gibson book published and loved them all. That said this is absolutly one of her best. It was a little predictable but the characters were well developed and funny and the plot did have a couple twists. Overall it was a pageturner. Read it!!!

3 out of 5 stars bit much.......2007-03-07

rachel gibson's leading men tend to be a bit too "bad boy" for me. she is a wonderful writer though. sex scenes are a bit too much for me, but if you like that than this is your book!

Book Description

MAD ABOUT YOU His boat off-course, distracted by a randy she-whale whose infatuation had somehow thrust him into the twenty-first century, Jorund Ericsson had cause to question his surroundings. And though the befuddled Viking thought hed found heaven when he caught sight of the comely wench with the man-hair and the kiss-some lips, the lovely doctor simply thought him crazy. And Jorund realized the only thing that had driven him to the edge was her enticing figure. He skyrocketed from the water and into Maggie's life: all sinewy muscles in a flawlessly proportioned body, a swath of long blond hair swept back from his brow. His claim to be a Viking from the tenth century made her smile. But it wasnt laughter that caused her stomach to flutter when the Hercules look-alike claimed her lips. And soon he had her believing his story, though questioning her own sanity. Then the psychologist realized there was another possibility: Neither of them was truly mad of them were truly, madly in love.

4 out of 5 stars Very cute............2003-10-01

Pretty cute book, hero is definitely a hunk, heroine is very likeable, intelligent, person (her twins are just toooo cute). Umm... don't think this one will be on my keepers shelf; it's really hard to say why - it just didn't grab hold of me. I usually finish a keeper in 1 to 2 days, this one was easy to lay down over & over again - it took me 4 days to read it. I probably would have given it a 3 1/2 stars if that was an option. I did enjoy many parts of it though so I'm not saying it was a bad read; It just didn't have that special something. I guess it didn't sit well with me that Jorund wasn't more amazed by the everyday conveniences (sp?) in the twenty-first century; Also, there were a number of other characters in the book who we had came to know a little & then they were just kind of dropped.... thought their story should have been completed just a little bit at least. However, as you can see, it has really good reviews here on Amazon, so if you like Vikings & time-travel then do give it a try.

5 out of 5 stars Let your imagination go! Viking humor & romance at its best.......2003-05-21

This is enormously entertaining romance humor! It is all done in the name of a tenth century Viking warrior transplanted to the year 2000. This is a sequel to The Last Viking but it can be read and enjoyed without reading The Last Viking first.

Jorund Ericsson, our hero, arrives in the year 2000 riding a whale. Not only does he arrive in the twenty first century on the back of whale totally nude - but also he does so in front of a huge audience at an ocean amusement park! Needless to say, he is considered much the oddity and probably mentally unstable.

Maggie McBride, the heroine, and her twin daughters are at the ocean park and witness Jorund's shocking appearance. Maggie is a practicing psychologist and steps in to protect Jorund and has him sent to the private mental hospital she works at. She fears the treatment he may receive under the wrong psychiatric care.

I must admit I had my doubts about this book since the hero spends almost the entire first half of the book in a psychiatric hospital. What a way to make the hero seem less than a hero! But it doesn't work out that way. Despite his crazy crash landing, riding a whale into the year 2000 and his subsequent commitment to a psychiatric hospital, this hero oozes he-man stuff and is really sexy to boot! He is, as a proper Viking warrior should be, dominant big time!

It is so much fun to laugh at (or with) Jorund's tremendously amusing character and in doing so, laughing at ourselves as we read some of these romance novels. Jorund does have an incredible sense of humor. Some of the most entertaining moments in the book are the times Jorund is attempting to translate new English words to his tenth century English knowledge. In his mind we hear him translate doctor into dock whore. Nurse Gladys Hatcher becomes Norse Glad-ass Hatch-her. Maggie is Mag-he. Natalie is Not-a-lie. Fred is Furr-red and Harvey is Hair-vee. This is only a small representation of the interpretations Jorund attempts as he endeavors to assess this new world and figure what is going on.

Maggie is a great heroine. She is just so sensible and non-judgmental. She appoints herself as Jorund's psychologist and oversees his treatment. Hew twin daughters are great secondary characters and are vital to the story. I was rarely bored with even a full page of this book. The secondary characters from the hospital were sometimes tiresome but fortunately little time is spent on them.

Since this story is about time travel, we have to live through the ever present attempt of the time traveler to return to his time. Although this book would be considered a comedy, this return scene is one that breaks your heart.

The sensual scenes are few and occur during the last third of the book but are very sensual indeed. Since Jorund is a Viking, the author portrays him as a very aggressive barbarian with savage sexual appetites (but certainly NOT selfish) in the sensual scenes. The scenes themselves rate a 4.5 out of 5.0 (see More About Me for rating guidelines) but due to their infrequency, I rate these scenes an overall 4.0.

Truly, Madly Viking is a snappy story that allows you to zoom along enjoying the story with every page. It is a definite keeper for me. I know that I will enjoy reading it again someday. And I am sure that I will laugh just as hard each time I read it.

5 out of 5 stars Sandra Hill rocks.......2003-04-03

Another hit from Sandra Hill!! Funny yet very hot at the right spots. I am trying to read all of her books.

3 out of 5 stars ok but not as good as the first book.......2002-02-04

This is the sequel to "The Last Viking" which I really enjoyed. I liked the humor in that book and the love scenes were very hot. This book was humorous and the love scenes were very hot but I just didn't really get into the characters as much. The hero is the brother from the first book. His name is Jorund and he has bee sent on a quest by his father to find his brother Rolf. Now this is back in 998 AD in the Norse lands. With the help of a unique killer whale he is transported to modern day Galveston Texas. Where he shows up naked at Orcaworld where he meets up with the heroine, Maggie. She is there with her twin girls enjoying the show when this drop dead gorgeous hunk shows up. She is a psychologists and he is taken to the hospital where she works and she is put incharge of his care. She is very attracted to him as he is to her and when he finally starts to talk it is quite funny. Along the way he becomes involved in her life at the hospital and later her home life. they blend very well but he is trying his best to keep his distance from her kids kids and he keeps his heart out of the picture because he knows he must go back to his time to resume his quest. I liked the secondary characters and was cheering for them. I would have liked it if the twins had played a bit more of a part in this. It was an enjoyable read but not as good as the first.

3 out of 5 stars Lighthearted Read.......2001-11-28

This is a casual time-travel romance with a lot of jokes centered around the fact that the cute (and cuddly?) hero is actually a 10th century Viking warrior brought to the 20th century on the back of a killer whale. (Yes, it is a bit ridiculous.) I think I'm out of my element in reviewing this novel, since it's more informal and jokey than I prefer my romances. (It wasn't steamy or intense by a long shot.) I'm rating it a 3/5 even though I put it down halfway through because Sandra Hill deserves credit for creating such a playful hero with whom the other reviewers seem so enraptured.

    Book Description

When a brutal murder shocks Istanbul's rundown Jewish quarter, the Turkish police force unleashes their best weapon - the chain-smoking, brandy-swilling Inspector Cetin Ikmen, husband to a strict Muslim woman (who disapproves of his drinking) and loving father of eight (with another on the way). With such a colorful personality and unrivaled investigative powers, Ikmen will surely join the ranks of beloved foreign cops Aureilo Zen and Guido Brunetti.

4 out of 5 stars Ottoman Cage = Chemical Prison.......2005-09-09

In answer to the question below, I don't have a copy of "The Ottoman Cage," but I do have "A Chemical Prison." I checked the first page of my book against Amazon's first page for this new book. They are the same. It looks like they are reissuing the old book with a new title. Those of us who look for Barbara Nadel's books all over the world (my personal favorite location is Robinson Crusoe Bookstore, on Istiklal Caddesi) are going to have to watch out for this. I love this series and hope to see an actual new volume soon.

3 out of 5 stars Horror in Istanbul.......2005-05-15

It may be that the setting is just too exotic for my taste but I cannot really warm to this murder mystery. The body of a beautiful young man is discovered, lying in filth, in a secret apartment concealed within a normal house in Istanbul. Neighbours claim to have seen a well dressed Armenian man entering and leaving the house at intervals, but none has any knowledge of the dead youth. Inspector Ikmen of the Turkish police and his close friend, Armenian forensic pathologist,Arto Sarkissian, join forces to try to identify the body and to investigate the case. Barbara Nadel's books featuring these two men cover a lot of territory involving both Turkish and Armenian culture and history and perhaps would be better appreciated by a reader with more knowledge of the two cultures. As the plot evolves, we are drawn into a murky world of male prostitution and drug usage which made me feel rather grimy and even the hard drinking, chain smoking Inspector has personal issues which go back into the old culture of the Ottoman upper classes. It's a well written novel but one which just made me feel uncomfortable.

4 out of 5 stars Portrait of Istanbul more of a draw than the mystery.......2005-04-05

The Istanbul setting and culture set British author Nadel's Inspector Cetin Ikmen procedurals apart.

Ikmen, too, is an intriguing character; a chain-smoking secularist and cynic who ignores his elderly father's descent into dementia, safe in the knowledge that his wife will shoulder the burden uncomplainingly. Ikmen's team includes a modern female sergeant and an unhappily married, but traditional upper-class male sergeant, suffering a mutual attraction, as well as a secular Jewish constable on the dismaying cusp of middle age, and an Armenian pathologist.

Ancient animosities between Armenians and Turks bubble to the surface when a young man's body is found in a house leased by an affluent, mysterious Armenian who has disappeared, leaving the place devoid of furniture and food. The boy, pocked with needle marks, also has a garrote wound around his neck and seems to have been confined to an upstairs room. An autopsy discovers synthetic heroin in his blood, seldom found outside a medical setting, and a long-term atrophy of his limbs, as if the boy's confinement had been lengthy.

The investigation delves into a sordid ring of pedophilia, prostitution, kidnapping and drug use and some readers will solve the case well before Ikmen. But the journey is its own reward and Nadel delivers an atmospheric exploration of a contemporary Turkish city, replete with tensions between modern and traditional values.

    2 out of 5 stars disappointed.......2005-03-28

This is the first of her mysteries I've read, and I came to it with high hopes. The British paperback edition called her "the Donna Leon of Istanbul." alas, no. I made it about half way through and I still have her first novel on order, so I will try again. But she digressed too much for me, did not create enough sense of place, and her use of the word 'rather' as a modifier rather turned me off: I started counting them at some point, always a bad sign. Maybe a touch more editorial direction was needed.

4 out of 5 stars A new title for an earlier book?.......2005-02-25

The plot summary sounds very much like "A Chemical Prison." Could someone tell us if this is just a reissuing of that book or new work? I rated it based on what I would award "A Chemical Prison."

5 out of 5 stars Chinese medical Qigong therapy : a comprehensive clinical gu.......2004-05-27

The author's professed purpose of writing this book was to provide information concerning the professional standards of knowledge and skill required in contemorary China to obtain a license as "Doctor of Medical Qigong Therapy," and additionally to describe effective diagnostic and therapeutic methods of Medical Qigong therapy, as established by the Hai Dian Medical Qigong College of Beijing, and thereby provide a textbook for training to that standard under the guidance of a qualified instructor. As such, it is fair to say that there has never been as thorough an explication of medical qigong as is offered in this book. It joins with other current commendable efforts aimed at bringing the traditional medical knowledge of China into the sphere of English-speaking readers.

The book is divided into 12 sections. The first four focus on building a comprehensive foundation in energetic medicine. The second four focus on guidelines for establishing a Medical Qigong clinic and for diagnosing and treating problems of qi deviations. The final four sections focus on treatment modalities, medical qigong prescriptions, regulation exercises, and scientific research in Medical Qigong clinical therapy. The text includes discussions of energetic embryology; energetic anatomy and physiology; training techniques for recognizing, developing, and emitting qi; energetic pathology and qi deviations; energetic diagnosis and symptomatology; clinical practice of Medical Qigong theory; energetic psychology; treating cancer; tumors and other diseases; step-by-step Medical Qigong prescriptions; establishing a clinic; and scientific evidence of the efficacy of Medical Qigong therapy. Many charts, graphs, and illustrations complement the verbal material.

5 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Introduction to Medical Qigong.......2004-05-06

Never before in the history of Chinese Medicine has a book so comprehensive and thorough on Medical Qigong been available to the public. Written by an American Qigong doctor who studied extensively in China, this clinical textbook provides the first complete explanation of the energetic theory of ancient Chinese Medical Qigong that has for centuries eluded and confounded the West. Designed especially for the Western mind, this textbook contains over 1,125 pages of comprehensive text, and over 775 charts, photos and illustrations that provide an easily understood model of Medical Qigong Theory.

Key features of this textbook include the following:

Like all the Junior League Cookbooks, A Taste of Aloha from the Junior League of Honolulu is chock full of the kinds of recipes that people cook in their own kitchens. So, unlike books written by the celebrity chefs of Hawaii, this one is neither glamorous nor intimidating. Still, it is elegant in its simplicity, and completely authentic in chronicling everything from the pupus (appetizers) that Hawaiians like to serve with drinks before dinner, to the rich desserts made with macadamia nuts, coconut, and chocolate. Anyone who's been to Hawaii and longed to recapture the flavor of the islands in their own home will find straightforward and reliable formulas for the Ahi Poke, Kalua Pig, and Haupia that they enjoyed in paradise.

                Book Description

As one of the thirteen original colonies, Connecticut made unique contributions to the development of America's textile industry. Until now, however, quilts from this historic state have only been viewed in bits and pieces through other states' documentation projects and museum collections. This beautifully illustrated book is the culmination of ten years of documentation and research and shows more than 145 outstanding and diverse quilts from Connecticut. They range from a signed and dated, pre-Revolutionary War Medallion quilt to a Grandmother's Flower Garden made by one of Connecticut's most prolific twentieth-century quiltmakers. Beyond the wonderful colors and shapes of the quilts are the fascinating stories of their makers, women and men whose lives were interwoven in Connecticut's rich history. This book is a must for students of quilt history, women's studies, textile enthusiasts, and devotees of American history.

                5 out of 5 stars A real family Heirloom!.......2002-10-05

Well, I wasn't joking. One of the quilts in this book is from my family. This book is very personal to me. For sometime, I have been trying to see the family quilt. But due to the age of, it wasn't a good idea to pull it out of storge. I was unable to see it person.

But now, I am so glad it was put in this book. And I now know what it looks like. I understand now,why heirlooms need to be sheared with others. This is part of American History that needs to be sheared with everyone.

This book is not a "how-to" book on quilting. This is like a "text book" on the History of quilts and quiltmakers in Connecticut.

This is real "Americana" quilting shown in this book. The stories are wonderful that go with each quilt, and lots, and lots of color pictures. A quilter's must, who loves Historic quilt designs. As you can see I love the book. :o)

The Spectrum series, now in its sixth volume, has become the standard source for modern fantasy illustration. Ranging in subject matter from classic science fiction imagery to futuristic erotica, and drawing on an international group of painters and illustrators, Spectrum 6 is culled from work created for book covers, comic books, magazines, television shows, and art galleries by the superstars in the field. They include SF genre favorites Michael Whelan, Jim Burns, Don Maitz, James Gurney, and Donato Giancola; comic artists Charles Vess, Alex Ross, and Joseph Michael Lisner; mainstream artists Thom Ang, Kiunko Craft, Peter de Sove, and David Bowers; and fine artists Kent Williams, Greg Spalenka, Dave McKean, and Jeffrey Jones. With cover art by Hugo Award winner Jim Burns, the book includes an overview of the field by historian Arnie Fenner.

3 out of 5 stars Slimmer helpings from a large platter.......2000-04-12

As with the last few books in the series, Spectrum 6 compiles the artwork sent in by various artists by categories, such as 'editorial', 'unpublished', 'dimensional', & 'comics'. In the past, the Spectrum series featured quite a bit of wonderfully stimulating /art/ -- unfortunately, it must be said that this compilation contains more /illustration/ instead. Unlike the more original works featured in the last few books, Spectrum 6 seems to concentrate on work done on popular subjects, rather than the creative talents of artists young and old to the industry. Though it is still a quality publishing, with glossy paper and solid binding, a person new to this series would be better advised to look at Spectrum 5 and prior. A mild dissapointment.

                              4 out of 5 stars Toys, Wrestling, & Photography.......2000-02-26

As a photographer I was excited to obtain this book. Here in Atlanta Wrestling has become the males soap opera. This in turn has led to an increase in Action Figures. I have always longed to intergrate bodybuilders and fitness women into my erotic imagery.

This book gives me the necessary compliation to allow my mind to investigate how to mimic fantasy art. I like the fact that my fears as a child were awakened as well as my sexual stimuli touched.

Finally, I like the fact that one of the editors is a female. It is time that women who appreciate art and for me erotic photography began to play a vital role in persenting these images. Yes I am familiar with Olivia. Can some one provide me with ISBN's on the previous issues?

                              3 out of 5 stars Rather quaint.......2000-02-06

I consider the sixth installation in the series to be rather weaker than the others. There is not as much variety in the art presnted within, and there is far too much (for my tastes) pseudo-fantastic art - the kind that deals with erotics, "babes wielding giant weapons", super-powered combat, etc. The volume does have many redeeming qualities, but they are not numerous enough to atone for the book's flaws. The fifth volume was SO much better.

                              4 out of 5 stars great inspiration.......2000-02-03

If you're a fan of sci-fi art work, this book is for you, spectrum 6 has some of the biggest names in this genre of illustration as well has some lesser known illustrators. The problem with spectrum 6 (as with all the other spectrum books) is that the popularity of the artist often counts more than the piece itself.

                              5 out of 5 stars Another Winner!.......1999-12-09

This sixth addition to the "Spectrum" series certainly lives up to its subtitle of "The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art". There is a beautiful cross-section of work by old favorites and new talent alike. Shaun Tann, Phil Hale, Donato Giancola, and Gary Gianni are just a few of the stand-outs in this wonderful collection. You like Whelan? He's here. "Dinotopia" creator Jim Gurney? Him, too. Comics? They're covered. Statues and model kits? They're here as well. If your budget will allow only one fantasy art book, "Spectrum 6" is certainly the best choice.

"Imagining Liza" is an amazing look into the mind of a devoted fan. A longtime Liza fan myself, I felt as if Fauvre understood just how I felt. After reading the memoir, I bought copies for friends. Fauvre's spirited attemts to meet Liza provided exciting and entertaining reading. Her insights into the reasons for her fascination with Liza can be helpful to one trying to develop self knowledge. The author gives a wonderful description of Liza off stage, her appearance and personality. I felt as if I was actually in the room during their meetings. Any fan of Liza will love this book, and anyone who has strived for a seemingly impossible dream will be inspired by the author's ultimate success.

This is a very unique book that would make a great film. Beverly Fauvre provides a rare look into the heart and mind of a true fan. She exposes herself and her fantasies without holding anything back. Her writing style is honest, self-effacing and illuminating. As you read the book you feel her growth as a person and by the time you reach the last page, you'll feel like you've grown a little yourself. This book is quite touching and a real treat for anyone who ever dreamed or schemed about meeting their celebrity idol in the flesh.

Most of us at, one time or another, have dreamed a dream. Beverly Fauvre reached for her dream, and along the way grew up and became a star in her own right. In addition, she gives us a love story between a husband and wife in their support for one another. A delightfully honest and appealing book.

                              5 out of 5 stars A journey into Bev's imagination.......2001-03-26

Beverly Fauvre has put her heart on her sleeve and into her writing. She discloses her private feelings, from the guilt of caring, dwelling, even wishing on a star (something out of the ordinary for many)to the triumph of realizing a piece of her dream. In the process, we learn about her personal growth and Liza's, including experiencing the days of Minnelli's white hot, blazing career. Sometimes we forget that when a fan goes the extra mile, she or he is doing so out of an appreciation for what is great and special about an artist, and there is no doubt that Liza radiates that greatness as a performer, interpreter, singer and actress. Congratulations, Mrs. Fauvre.
