Book Description
Meet Julia, a wildly successful television producer who appears to have the picture-perfect life. But beneath the surface, things are not as perfect as they seem. Stuck in a loveless relationship with her boyfriend, Mark, Julia thinks a baby is the answer . . . but she may want a baby more than she wants her boyfriend. Maeve, on the other hand, is allergic to commitment. A feisty, red-haired, high-power career girl, she breaks out in a rash every time she passes a stroller. But when her no-strings-attached nightlife leads to an unexpected pregnancy, her reaction may be just as unexpected . . . And then there’s Samantha—happily married and eager to be the perfect June-Cleaver mother. But baby George brings only exhaustion, extra pounds, and marital strife to her once tidy life. Is having an affair with a friend’s incredibly sexy husband the answer?
With Babyville, bestselling author Jane Green applies her golden touch to the next phase of a girl’s life. By turns witty, rollicking, and tender, this sparkling, sexy tale about the complexities of modern motherly love isn’t really a story about babies—it’s about three friends whose lives are suddenly turned upside down by that life-changing event that hangs over the head of every single girl: motherhood.

Baby, Baby-Who Wants a Baby.......2006-12-14
This book details three acquaintances and their stance on motherhood.
Julia wants a baby. She and longtime live-in boyfriend Mark have been trying to get pregnant for almost a year, but it is taring their relationship apart. One day things go to far and they decide to separate. Julia goes to America with her friend and starts to heal after she thinks that she can not have children and finds a potential for love in Jack.
Meave had always said that she did not want to get tied down with a baby. Then the night that Mark and Julia break up Meave and Mark have a fling that ends with Meave pregnant. They start spending time together to sort things out and end up in love.
Sam is Julia's best friend. She adores her son George, but is not quite enamored with her husband. Then she and her husband get together with another couple and she fancies herself in love with the man. She also ends up meeting Meave and her daughter and the two become friends even though Meave "stole" mark from Julia. At the end Sam and her husband work things out and at a birthday dinner gets a call from Julia asking if she'll be the godmother to Julia's baby with Jack.
Save your time and dont read........2006-12-05
I like the whole concept of the book about motherhood and how Jane Green wrote the stories with 3 perspectives but I did not find any of the characters appealing but rather ridiulous. I forced myself to get through Julia whose character was such a disappointment. She kept on thinking she wanted a baby, just to fix her "loveless" relationship which I dont even know why shes in since she doesnt even care for the guy but all she did was blame him that shes not pregnant. Maeve's story was better and honestly, I did not even want to read Sam's. I basically skimmed it over to get the main point but her character was so annoying. She acted like a child and it basically ruined the whole book for me.
Julia's story is almost the exact same as Carole Matthew's With or Without You
Great.......2006-08-13
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters are easy to relate to and the story goes full circle to weave each of the characters into each other's lives.
This is the first book I've ready by Jane Green and it has convinced me to try her other books. That's a good thing as I usually have a hard time getting "into" a book, but this one was easy to catch onto immediately.
Keep going, it gets better..........2006-07-28
I was about to put this book down after the first 50 pages or so. The plot was ok, but there was nothing to keep me reading. I decided to stick with it, and it started to get much more interesting a bit later.
The thing about this novel that frustrated me at first was the fact that it was broken up into sections. Just as I got into one woman's story, a new section would arise, much to my surprise and disappointment. However, in a very interesting style of story telling, the end result was pleasant.
I would recommend this book if you really like Jane Green, however some of her other novels are more to my liking (i.e. Jemima J).
unrealistic and boring.......2006-07-02
I am in the process of trying to force myself to finish this book after reading the "Julia" segment. I am an avid reader of all types of books, including chick lit, and as the mother of two young children, I had looked forward to some light summer reading about women going through the same phase of life. However, these women are nothing like me or any of the many thirty-something women and mothers that I know. For example, how many women are DESPERATE to get pregnant, and then turn on a dime to go to New York, forget their long term relationship and party like they're fresh out of college? How many thirty three year olds do you know that stay up until well past midnight partying every night and still get up at the crack of dawn to spend an hour at the gym, fully made up and THEN go to work, which just so happens to be a high-power glamorous television job?? Please.
Finally, the writing in this book is so pedestrian it's hard to believe the intended audience is anyone above age 17. Grinning from "ear to ear" and waiting for "Prince Charming." Severe lack of creativity and style here. I sure wish I could get my $13 back for this one...

Jack Reacher, the taciturn ex-MP whose adventures in Lee Child's six previous solidly plotted, expertly paced thrillers have won a devoted fan base, returns in this explosive tale of an undercover operation set up by the FBI to rescue an agent investigating Zachary Beck, a reclusive tycoon believed to be a kingpin in the drug trade. The novel begins with a bang as Reacher rescues Beck's son from a staged kidnapping in order to get close to his father--and trace the connection between Beck and Quinn, a former army intelligence officer who tried to sell blueprints of a secret weapon to Iraq but was murdered before he could pull it off. Or so Reacher thinks, until he spots Quinn in the crowd at a concert in Boston. As usual, Child ratchets up the tension and keeps the reader in suspense until the last page, although his enigmatic hero hardly ever seems to break a sweat. In the tough guy tradition, Reacher and his creator are overdue for a breakout, and this muscular, well-written mystery might be the one. --Jane Adams

Customer Reviews:
Plenty of Suspense and Action.......2007-08-30
I believe that Persuader is the seventh and latest in Lee Child's Jack Reacher series. Again, in this book as with all the other Reacher novels Mr. Child created a plot with numerous twists and turns. I found that in this story the author placed more emphasis on Reacher's combat skills. The story begins with a kidnapping and shootout, then as the story moves along Reacher finds himself infiltrating a smuggler's household where he could be killed if discovered. In summary this is a wonderful, suspense fill novel that I highly recommend.
Inside Reacher's Head.......2007-07-16
Having recently discovered Lee Child, and in so doing having recently re-discovered the sensation of reading pure exciting escapist literature, I enjoyed this Jack Reacher book as much as the three or four of his previous novels I have also read this summer. Child's writing is, of course, superb. He may not feature the variety of idiosyncratic characters that Elmore Leonard does, but his plotting more than makes up for it. This novel is the best of Child's so far, in my opinion. The Persuader is narrated in first person, a dramatic break from the third person Jack Reacher novels I've read so far. It was a bit jolting at first, but I got used to it quickly and enjoyed the greater insight into the character's psychological makeup that this risky authorial choice afforded.
Perferct Place to Start.......2007-06-22
This was the first Reacher I read, so the brutal opening appalled me and I nearly tossed this aside. Jack Reacher is a hero without the moody baggage that everyone else in series crime fiction seems to haul around. Irresistible.
Page Turning Thriller!.......2007-05-10
The hero of our story Jack Reacher is in Boston when he sees a face from
his past. He sees a man that he thought he had killed walking down the
street. Francis Xavier Quinn had been caught by Reacher when he was in
military investigations selling military secrets to Iraq. Quinn kills
Reacher's partner Dominique Khol. Quinn kills Quinn in retaliation(or so
he thinks). When Reacher tries to find Quinn by tracing license plates he is paid a visit by DEA. They want him to infiltrate the business operations of Zachary Beck. A fake kidnapping is staged of Beck's son at college. Reacher saves the Beck child and is granted access to the houselike fortress on the coast of Maine. He goes to work for Beck as a security person. From this position he is able to further investigate the operation. He searches for a connection between Beck and Quinn. Also adding to the story is Beck's giant security guard Paulie. You await the
big fight between him and Reacher.
This proved to be an exciting book. Be sure to read it.
Another Fine Entry in the Jack Reacher Series.......2007-04-15
PERSUADER is the seventh novel in the "Jack Reacher" series by Lee Child. Reacher is the ultimate loner, an ex-military policeman who travels around the country by himself, getting into one violent adventure after another.
I enjoy the Reacher books. They are essentially action novels, an American version of the James Bond character. They are over-the-top and unrealistic, but they are brilliantly intense and feature some of the best fight scenes I've ever read in a book series.
I've read six novels in the series, and I would put PERSUADER in the bottom half of what I've read. It's very good, but I thought some key characters (such as the family Reacher stays with) were underdeveloped and uninteresting. Also, even by Jack Reacher standards, the plot is grossly unrealistic. You have to believe that a group of FBI agents would engage in a major operation outside their own agency, and then enlist a complete stranger to perform a major undercover operation for them. I didn't believe it for a minute, but I still had fun reading it.
You can read the Reacher novels in any order, but my advice is to start with KILLING FLOOR, the first in the series, which I think is the best book I've read so far. I also enjoyed ONE SHOT and ECHO BURNING.
Book Description
Set in the world of Tessalindria with an Arthurian milieu to keep it familiar, this first in a projected several-volume series revolves around the classic struggle between good and evil. Princess Vrengnia embarks on a spiritual journey and is aided by a wise blacksmith and his son. Her father is confliced by his desire to be a good king and father, and his desire for revenge. It becomes quickly apparent that the blacksmith is a deeply spiritual and prophetic man who is in constant communion with MahEladra, the sovereign spirit of Tessalindria. The first in the Portals of Tessalindria series, this book is especially for those who enjoy fantasy and for those who don't particularly. The characterizations and spiritual insight elevate it from fantasy to visionary fiction.

right out of lord of the rings - suspenseful intrigue .......2004-09-17
Clever and creative character development, mind absorbing details takes you into the characters lives as it was long ago. A story whose creatively orchestrated plot fascinates you and grips you until the end, anticipating the intrigue of Book II.
A great book to read for all ages which takes you away to the Medieval era with details of life long ago, with virtue and honor and chivalry and nobility to enchant your wishes for the characters and idealize attributes to strive for.
A Very entertaining and enjoyable read with a map to follow and peoples lives at stake for the outcome of Truth.
A multi-faceted tale that gleams at every angle!.......2004-07-06
I read this book in three days while on vacation in Maine. I could not put it down. While it does have a prominent theme of action and fantasy, a Sword For The Immerland King is overflowing with new ideas and true wisdom. F.W. Faller starts each chapter with a quote or proverb that relates to the following chapter. They are all very wise and relevant, and I found myself looking forward to reading each new proverb. For example, two in particular that caught my eye: "Who is the greater prisoner: the caged man whose mind transcends his physical boundaries or the untethered being whose mind holds him in a cage?" and "We are forever doomed to suffer with histories defined by those who are able to shout the loudest.". Faller also deals with some spiritual ideas, such as "cymbic" relationships and the myriad layers of the "vorn" (sort of like the soul). The characters, plot, and scenery are very skillfully developed and described. Aside from everything else, FW Faller has an exquisite way with words, a talent that he exercises in weaving this intricate tale that I will most certainly re-read after I've finished the sequel!
Great Fantasy Novel!.......2004-01-08
I was happily surprised to find out that there are still great fantasy authors out there who can not only spin a good yarn, but also do so in a way that shows morally why some ways of acting are better than others. I eagerly look forward to the next book in the series.
Take an Adventure -- and bring your family!.......2003-06-24
The Sword of the Immerland King captivated me with a story in the epic proportion of the Lord of the Rings. With exquisite imagery and just the right balance of suspense and imagination, the author succeeds in creating a book that you never want to put down. Personally, although I read dozens of books a year, I'm not an avid fiction reader. But since I knew this author, I thought I would give it a try. I was not disappointed. I finished it in less than a week and now I'm reading it to my two boys (8 and 6) who only complain when I stop reading to them!
Fantastic job! I am hungry for the second volume.
What a great book!.......2003-04-08
A Sword for the Immerland King is one of the best, if not the best book I have yet read. It is a fantasy good for almost all ages that can comprehend the complex story line. The characters are real and come alive during the book. It is action packed and the world of Tessalindria is an incredible nation with a complete history. I am strongly looking forward to the next book.

One of the best.......2007-01-10
This is one of the best dealing with the prostate. Check out the one published by the Mayo Clinic and the one published by the Johns Hopkins Unversity Press. Be careful of the copyright date. Theories and methods are changing rapidly. I found out that I am ahead of my urologist who, in my opinion should do one of three things: (1) Buy some new books, (2) Go back to medical school or (3) retire because his knowledge is obsolete. BE PREPARED! DOCTORS ARE NOT GOD (some may think they are). This is a serious situations. Do your own homework and don't rely on your doctor to know everything and not screw up. Don't overlook the book about a "headache in the pelvis". If you do not get good results from your urologist, your internist may know more practical solutions and don't hesitate to get a second opinion from a different urologist. I am disgusted with urologists. I go to two, at present, who do not even agree with their own partner. It's scary!
A recommended pick.......2007-01-07
Leading urologist Dr. J. Stephen Jones has been nationally recognized as an authority on prostate problems and their treatment, and here writes the perfect consumer guide on how to understand conditions, therapies, and alternatives. The latest developments on detection and screening of conditions is included in a guide which is much more accessible than competitors. THE COMPLETE PROSTATE BOOK: WHAT EVERY MAN NEEDS TO KNOW is a recommended pick, especially for general lending collections specializing in consumer health.

A Guide for a Difficult path.......2006-07-19
I had received an early warning sign. The possibilty existed that I had prostate cancer, a disease that killed my father. In my doctor's office was a book he had written entitled "The Complete Prostate Book". I obtained a copy of the book from Amazon.com so as to study the options available to me. Some months later my cancer was confirmed and I was well prepared to make a decision on my behalf.
The book. while technical in nature, is written with an understanding of the anxiety and emotions that a man will encounter as he decides the treament that is best for him. This is done with facts and actual experiences of men who walked the path of Prostate examination and treatment.
Outstanding Resource- Easy to Read!.......2006-01-10
When Dr. Jones titled this book... he meant it! It IS complete.
This book is a fantastic resource. All facets of prostate problems are discussed, from the very simple to the very complex, in a manner that is easily understood. Whenever medical terms are utilized they are defined and when possible, examples are given to improve understanding. The section of the book on prostate cancer is phenomenal. If you, or someone you love has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and are overwhelmed with information and treatment options, I would highly recommend reading this book.
There are very few absolutes in medicine, especially regarding individualized medical treatment. Dr. Jones allows the reader to arm himself with information so that he (along with his urologist) can make the best decisions about his care.

A good basic guide.......2007-06-09
This book has helped identify Red Wing pottery, each type is in a separate area and the back includes a 'find by number' list.
There are some items that aren't in this book, but it would help a person get a general idea of what items are worth.
Comprehensive Red Wing Reference.......2005-06-22
This is a very comprehensive treatment of all categories of Red Wing production. Rare, seldom reviewed pieces are included. I appreciated not having to refer to an index for prices (they are provided with each listing). Nice photos. Excellent general reference for Red Wing collectors.
Very good reference book for the collector.......2005-06-18
Excellent examples of the difficult to find items. I thought the photography was excellent! Fair and not inflated prices....Thanks!
Nothing new here.......2005-06-11
This guide has a little bit of information about all areas of Red Wing pottery. Unfortunately, it tries to do too much and in doing so doesn't do justice to any of the subjects. I believe new collectors will be confused by its organization. The good news is there are already lots of good books available on Red Wing pottery.

Customer Reviews:
A definite improvement over the last edition..........2000-04-02
This book is a definite improvement over the last edition Dollen put out on Red Wing, but I still find it somewhat incomplete. For example, I would have liked more examples of the various patterns of mixing bowls, as they differ greatly.
That being said, there are improvements that were made which make this a better book than the last. I like the fact that more backstamps (marks) are shown, and I appreciate the more extensive treatment of dinnerware. All in all, a worthwhile book, if a little high priced.
A good start, but could be more complete..........2000-04-02
This book is not an extensive encyclopedia. It provides an introduction and overview to the Red Wing art pottery lines from the 20s - 60s. It covers a number of different patterns and types, but is not as complete as it could be.
I would have preferred to see many more photos of backstamps (marks), as Red Wing used many. It would have been good to have those, along with associated dates, in order to help date various pieces. As well, more photos of everything would have been nice. All in all, this is a start, but not the be-all-and-end-all a serious collector needs.

Kirigami 7: Alphabet.......2001-07-01
If you are trying to figure out how to fold and cut paper to make the letters of the alphabet this is the book for you. While there is nothing fancy about these letters the patterns will definitely help you get the job done and you can add your own fancy touches afterwards.

Carl Perkins tends to turn up in rock-and-roll chronicles as an also-ran: the guy who wrote "Blue Suede Shoes," cut a crackling version of the song for Sun, and then saw Elvis nudge it out of the spotlight with his version. Certainly he lacked Presley's personal magnetism as a performer. But Perkins, who was born in Tennessee in 1932, was a true original. As a singer and guitarist, he was one of the prime begetters of rockabilly. And his songs--not only "Blue Suede Shoes," but "Dixie Fried," "Matchbox," "Honey Don't," and "Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby"--were definitive expressions of hipster attitude, which probably explains why the Beatles recorded the latter three. David McGee, a frequent contributor to Rolling Stone, writes about Perkins with great sympathy and tact. He manages to describe his subject's struggles (of which there were many) without descending into voyeuristic pathography. As for Perkins himself, he remains proud of his legacy: "I loved it--there ain't nothing prettier than two clean teenagers out there jitterbugging. And if they want to jitterbug at my funeral to 'Blue Suede Shoes,' I might just raise up and say: Go, Cat, Go!"

Great Look Into The Life of a Great Talent.......2007-06-18
I really enjoyed this book. Unlike others that I have read (Little Richard, Chuck Berry, etc), this book is not an attempt to stake a claim to the title of "King of Rock and Roll". This book offers what appears to be an honest and humble look into the life of the King of Rockabilly. Perkins gives due credit to his influences and songwriting assistants, and honestly discusses his alcoholism.
I personally believe that Carl was one of the truest talents in early rock and roll, and his importance as an innovator/songwriter/performer is vastly undervalued. Get this book, and the "Complete Sun Recordings", and you can't go wrong.
Now THIS should be a movie!.......2006-05-15
An excellent and, what I feel honest (by both the narrator and writer) review and impression of one man's journey through life. Though Carl Perkins story is almost parallel to that of Johnny Cash's (if not "harder") this book goes beyond telling stories and conveys the emotions and impact of Mr. Perkins decisions and experiences.
"They" really should make this life story a movie!
What a man; what a life!.......2003-06-19
I'll admit it -- I'm biased toward Carl Perkins. I lived several years in his hometown of Jackson, TN and met him many times. Having those experiences, I was curious how this book would portray Mr. Perkins. After reading this book, I have more respect for Mr. Perkins. True, he wasn't perfect (who is?), but he had reason to be bitter about his career and his life, instead he never gave up. He pulled himself up after each setback and kept on striving. When you think about it, what would be the alternative? He was not only a great musician, but an active humanitarian. His work with children and their causes is nearly as impressive as his musical career, yet most people don't know of this. I went to Carl Perkins' funeral, and in the little city of Jackson, TN you would have thought time stood still. This book will give you the feeling of getting to know a true American success story . . .
Inspiring!!.......2002-10-04
What a story!! This should be a must read for all of us who get to feeling sorry for ourslves. Carl Perkins came from abject poverty,a racially discriminating South, was known as "white trash",wrote one of rock n rolls seminal tunes, was on the brink of superstardom, lost it all, became a sideman to another Sun records stablemate, delved into the pit of addiction, rose again, had alot of his early work recorded by a group known as the Beatles, played with the likes of Eric Clapton, loved performing with his own family, lived his life humbly, nursed somewhat of a grudge against Sam Phillips,Jerry Lee Lewis, and Elvis, made peace with himself, and left behind the legacy of a man who had seen the beast within and had conquered it.
This is a must read for anyone who has any interest in music,or for that matter, the sociology of the South during the late 1940's and 1950's. It is also ,quite simply, one of the most inspiring books that I've ever read,Thank You, Carl Perkins!
Go Carl, Go!.......1999-12-07
Much has been made of the tragic events in Carl Perkins' life, but in the end his values and personal strength stood him in much better stead than most of his Sun contemporaries (see Escott and Hawkin's book on Sun Records). Pretty good for a kid who, with his brothers, were so poor that they were skinny from undernourishment as children. This book follows Carl from childhood until near the end (he passed away shortly after publication). The section on the Tennessee tonk scene in the 40's and 50's and "tush hogs" is especially colorful.
