The recipient of this was overjoyed with it. I on the other hand think the would would be a better place with less of this type of "humor."

Fun book.......2003-08-13
It's pretty funny! I noticed someone reading it on my flight back from Amsterdam -since he was laughing, a bit too much I thought. But after looking over at a few lines & pardoning myself for looking over, I also thought the book was a blast! It's great fun!
Funny Stuff.......2003-03-07
Humor/parody picture magazine format, not a novel. Not for kids or anyone offended by images/references to sex and drugs. No interviews or anything political, just ignorant stuff.
Book Description
When Miami Homicide Detective Hoke Moseley receives an unexplained order to let his beard grow, he doesn't think much about it. He has too much going on at home, especially with a man he helped convict ten years before moving in across the street. Hoke immediately assumes the worst, and considering he has his former partner, who happens to be nursing a newborn, and his two teenage daughters living with him, he doesn't like the situation on bit. It doesn't help matters when he is suddenly assigned to work undercover, miles away, outside of his jurisdiction and without his badge, his gun, or his teeth. Soon, he is impersonating a drifter and tring to infiltrate a farm operation suspected of murdering migrant workers. But when he gets there for his job interview, the last thing he is offered is work.
In this final installment of the highly acclaimed Hoke Moseley novels, Charles Willeford's brilliance and expertise show on every page. Equally funny, thrilling, and disturbing, The Way We Die Now is a triumphant finish to one of the most original detective series of all time.
Customer Reviews:
This book is one of the mystery/thriller genres highest achievements.......2006-08-06
Charles Willeford's book "The Way We Die Now" is flat out great. I am a hard boiled genre fan and this might be the best of the genre. What's amazing to me is that I have spent years reading mysteries and thrillers and had not come across Willeford's Hoke Moseley before. I read "Burnt Orange Heresy" a long time ago, and it was all-right, though missing something in comparison to this. If you are in the same boat, and have not read a Moseley book before, I would suggest that you take a chance and get this book. I would guarantee (if only I could) that this is a five star all the way read.
"The Way We Die Now" is not the first in this series. Instead it is "Miami Blues" which is also pretty good but not up to this book. You don't need to have read the earlier titles. Just step in and the character and his changing surroundings make sense, so you wont be out of place.
Hoke Moseley is one of the finest creations to grace the genre field. Fully fleshed and human to a degree rarely seen. Maybe Matt Scudder, Lawrence Blocks fictional character is a good comparison. The book takes place on the grimey streets of Miami and around Florida of the 1980's. Having grown up during this time, Willefords prose really took me back. The tension between Hoke and the racist police force, his family, his neighbors, and the community at large will suck you in. At the same time the story is very amusing and light. Perfect.
For the Aficionados.......2006-06-06
This novel is a last in a series, and established fans who come to get their fix of Hoke Mosley will not be disappointed.
I came to it first and I liked the believable characters and compelling descriptions. But ... not much actually happens.
The undercover assignment is set up, but then as soon as Hoke arrives at the place he blows the guy away and beats his sidekick to death - and that's it! As for the cold case subplot, Hoke achieves a breakthrough by claiming it's solved and panicking the guy - couldn't he have done this any time in the previous three years? Finally, the released revenge-promising con is made to buy a place across the road from Hoke just to rid him of Ellita, as it seems.
And what's this about an Orthodox Jew with his favourite brand of tuna?
I think the book needed a careful editor.
A Fitting and Unforgettable Exit.......2005-12-03
I hadn't read the other Hoke Moseley stories for a while, and when I started this one, I didn't care for it. However, at a certain point a lot of apparently disconnected items came together and blew me away. Like Jim Thompson's Pop. 1280, this one just refuses to exit my mind. The last paragraph on the last page is how I want to remember Willeford; humanity buried under layers and layers of disappointment, betrayal and hurt but with an unextinguished spark of hope recognizing that nothing's perfectly imperfect.
This book should be read with what Donald Westlake says about Willeford in the Preface. Don't rush this book, and if you've liked Willeford in the past, you'll find the same gems--just arranged differently.
Willeford is the boss.......2005-06-12
The truth is, all of Florida crime writers after Willeford can type until their fingertips fall off, but Willeford will always remain the boss.
Willeford is the most deadpan writer imaginable. His Hoke Mosely books are totally without affectation or author intrusion, unlike certain other Florida crime writers whom I won't mention.
Willeford such a master, he can tug at your heartstrings without manipulating you like most writers do. _The Way We Die Now_ is no exception. For all of his cynicism, Hoke Moseley loves his kids as best he can, and he always goes out of his way to help the underdog. All of the Moseley novels leave us with a sense that life is worth living in spite of the pain and ugliness.
Also typical in this book is Willeford's refusal to cowtow to political correctness. I'm sure all the affirmative action types were retching with disgust when this book came out. Hilarious!
Willeford's prose style is so unapologetically straight-ahead that there's no point in trying to analyze it. I remember the first time I read a Hoke Moseley novel. I thought, "This guy either has no idea how to write, of he's one of the greatest writers of all time." It's because Willeford knows that the story and the characters rule. We're so accustomed to writers who can't resist showing the reader how clever they are. When a real storyteller comes along, we don't know how to take him.
There's simply nobody else like Willeford.
[The Way We Die Now] Low key, entertaining.......2005-05-30
In The Way We Die Now, Charles Willeford portrays Sergeant Hoke Moseley of the Miami PD as both a hard-boiled action hero and as a soft-hearted family man without breaking a sweat. For that alone it's worth reading.

Ha sido llevada al cine por Enrique Urbizu bajo el título "Cachito".
Customer Reviews:
Great short novel!.......2004-01-16
This is the classic story of good versus evil that you have read about so many times, but it is told by a writer with great talent. Manolo, who is a truck driver, goes to the rescue of Maria, whose virginity has been sold to the "evil" guy. The action is fast paced and there are passages with great humor. You should be able to read this book in one sitting!
This novel will give you an idea of the talent Arturo Perez-Reverte has. I recommend you also read The Fencing Master, The Flanders Panel and The Nautical Chart.
Book Description
A woman has been found strangled in front of a local church. On her lap, a bag full of coins and note For masses for her soul. In a nearby convent for young society ladies, the chaplain is having unconventional encounters with his novices. Capitan Alatriste will soon discover how these two facts are connected by an entangled net of power, faith, and death.
Customer Reviews:
Into the Heart of More Adventure!.......2001-05-14
Each book builds more suspense than the previous one read. "Limpieza de sangre" depicts milestone features about life in Spain in the first quarter of the 17th century. Without digressing too much into the social and political quagmires affecting the court of Phillip IV and his infamous, yet resourceful, prime minister Conde Duque de Olivares, Mr. Perez-Reverte's pen takes us to another nail-biting plot involving the Spanish Inquisition. His narrative is once again meticulously labored and his characters are produced quite graphically. His sense of detail is both powerful and realistic.
Second installment in the Alatriste series........2000-04-01
This is the second book in the Capitán Alatriste series, a sequel to "El Capitán Alatriste" (a.k.a. "Un asunto de honor") and preceding "El sol de Breda". It tells of Alatriste's new adventure in XVII century Spain. Whereas the first book in the series was relatively light-hearted, this second book dwelves on one of the darkest episodes of Spanish history, the Inquisition, and is a deep but very entertaining exploration of the darkest corners in Spanish character. However, this is only a part of what goes on in this book. There's also quite a bit of swashbuckling adventure, romance, and mistery. The action is tightly plotted, and some historical figures make brief cameos. The author has put a lot of care in using a language that's not too modern for the story but that isn't academic, either. No wonder Arturo Pérez Reverte is the best selling writting in contemporary Spain. His flair for intelligent and entertaining novels makes him a sure winner.

Cachito.......2001-06-12
The famous Spanish writer Arturo Perez-Reverte (The flanders panel, The Seville Communion)offers us a beautiful love story between a truck driver and a teenager. This unsual love story catches your attention on the first sentence, action and romance are perfectly mixed. I would describe this book as a strange mix between "Thelma and Louis" and "Romeo and Juliet". I really recommend this book because it is so intense that you don't want to close the book until you finish it.

quick comment.......2000-02-22
I have not reviewed other cookbooks for diabetics as a caveat. My purpose in reviewing this book was to see if it would be suitable for a friend who is a gourmet cook and reluctant to be relegated to boring food 'just for the sake of her diabetic care'. There are a wide variety of exciting gourmet recipes sure to please the palate. Each recipe also contains complete nutrition information with which to fit these meals into the Joslin exchange program. I recommend the book to every diabetic wishing to put some pzazz into their meal plan.
Book Description
Jeremy Jackson has four goals:
- Make cornbread one word. Once and for all.
- Have cornbread named the official bread of the United States.
- Find a wife.
- Think outside the box of cornmeal about the Possibilities, potentialities, and promises of cornbread.
Cornbread is the American bread. The by-the-people-for-the-people bread. So it should be put forth to the people with humor. And a whole lot of butter.
The Cornbread Book does just that with recipes for cornbreads, fritters, hush puppies, and biscuits. Cornbreads of the sweet persuasion appear, too, from biscotti to pound cake. And there are yeast breads such as Anadama Batter Bread and Cornmeal Pizza Dough. Don't forget timeless favorites like spoonbread, buttermilk cornbread, and popovers. Not to mention Gospel Buns, Sweet Potato Cupcakes, and Honey Snail (which doesn't come within ten miles of an actual snail).
Cornbread doesn't even have to be made with cornmeal. Hominy-Leek Monkey Bread has riced hominy. And Jeremy is as proud as a peacock to have come up with three yeast breads made with flour he milled from popped popcorn (Popcorn White Loaf, Popcorn Pita Bread, and Popcorn Focaccia). In the unlikely event you have any leftover cornbread, Jeremy has recipes for cornbread salad, croutons, and dressing.
And if you ever meet Jeremy, he might just sing you "The Cornbread Song" . . .
Customer Reviews:
Cornbread at it's best!.......2006-11-04
Mr. Jackson's book is not only informative but the recipes are the best I've ever found. There's nothing like a "from scratch" recipe for full flavor and these cornbread recipes have proven to be great for breakfast, lunch, dinner or dessert. This is definitely a book for all of us cornbread lovers.
Very Good Little Culinary Novella........2005-08-08
`The Cornbread Book', the first book from Jeremy Jackson subtitled `a love story with recipes' is a delightful little 120 page book written with the kind of devotion to its subject which simply draws you in and makes you love the subject almost as much as the author. And, one is drawn to affection for the author's candor in acknowledging himself for having done the lion's share of work toward completing this book. This is oddly refreshing when weighed against the `cast of thousands' acknowledgments which you find in some books where entries seem to be rewards for nothing more than a gratis contribution of a recipe or doing that for which you are being paid anyway.
For a list price of $14.95, we get what may be considered not much more than a series of articles from John Thorne or James Villas, but I still think it's worth it. This may be considered a culinary novella. It is the food world's version of `Death in Venice' by Thomas Mann or `Heart of Darkness' by Joseph Conrad. Please overlook the fact that it was not written by M.F.K. Fisher, Elizabeth David, Jeffrey Steingarten, or Julia Child. It is a very promising first work and since I have already reviewed Master Jackson's second book, the somewhat more substantial `desserts that have killed better men than me', I expect better and better things from this author, as long as he can find things other than cornbread with to develop a love.
Master Jackson's attachment to cornbread begins with what may be considered a baptism with corn meal, as in the chill Midwest, where one could not go out and play in the wickedly cold winter, Jackson had a little indoor sandbox filled with cornmeal which during naps and other slumbers, was stored in a great glass jar, separated from the corn meal reserved for baking.
Since this little book is devoted to but a single rather limited subject, you can be sure that Master Jackson covers it from just about every angle. The fact that it is limited can be demonstrated that in contrast, the seemingly small and related subject of bread baking in England consumes almost 600 pages from the pen of the great Elizabeth David.
The thing which most distinguishes cornbread baking from baking with wheat is the great variety of forms and possibilities created by wheat's gluten protein forming powers which lends itself to all sorts of leavenings, the most important of which is yeast leavening. Corn flour dough, and virtually every other type of flour dough simply does not create gluten, which is why wheat is mixed in with lots of other types of flours. But obviously, this does not stop our ancestors, especially those who trace their lineage back to pre-Columbian Americans from making various types of bread from corn meal and us.
Before boring you much further with my rants about this splendid little book, let me say that I believe the finest use of various cornbread recipes herein are as accompaniments to soups and stews. As a relatively slow amateur cook, the making of one major dish usually takes up all my creative energies come mealtime. Thus, there isn't much time to spend making an imaginative starch side dish, with the possible exception of the simplest pasta with oil and garlic.
Therefore, if you run through this book and master but one or two of these recipes so that you can do them without consulting the printed page, you can immediately branch out and add all sorts of things to this simple recipe and amaze your family with a scrumptious main dish accompanied by great fresh cornbread.
The book covers four different types of cornbread recipes, basic, `beyond basic', sweet, and yeast cornbreads. To this is added a chapter on what to do with leftover cornbreads. Note that many of the recipes, especially those in the `beyond basic' and `sweet' chapters are much more like cakes, cookies, and other dessert dishes than they are like `breads'. That doesn't mean Master Jackson is moving off message. He very gently reminds us he is on track when he gives us recipes for a corn meal crepe, but not recipes for crepe fillings, as this is not a book about crepes!
One of my few disappointments with this book is that Master Jackson does not explain the anomaly in Yankee cornbread recipes containing sugar while Johnny Reb recipes being less sweet, while most other southern cooking tends to be richer than its northern cousins. Virtually the only culinary danger I found was the phrase which combined Jalapeno and Habanero chilis as suggestions for a certain type of recipe while taking no notice of the truly great difference in heat to be found in these two varieties of chili.
My greatest surprise and joy in reading this book was the discovery of popcorn meal, created exactly as you might expect, by grinding up popcorn into a flour and using it exactly as you may use any other type of flour.
If you are a foodie of just about any stripe whatsoever, it is hard to deny yourself the pleasure of this little book, as it is inexpensive and full of easy, useful, tasty recipes.
Very highly recommended.
Swoon-worthy!.......2004-02-29
What a fresh voice to discover in the cookbook aisle--I was so charmed that I paid full-price! (And the recipes are fabulous, too.)
As someone who once longed for an MFA of her own but is now in culinary school studying pastry arts, I couldn't possibly be more appreciative of Mr. Jackson's talents--unless he were to provide color commentary all day long while I baked. I will without doubt be purchasing his other efforts, both literary & culinary.
Can't agree with other reviews here, alas.......2003-08-15
I wish I could. I love cornbread. And Jeremy J has impeccable credentials (Missouri farmboy grew up eating/loving mama's cornbread, recipe given). The recipes here are pretty good, some very good, mostly classic, a few innovative. Though directions are sometimes sketchy and less than clear (if you are a novice cook especially, you could use more detail) the experienced cook will do fine. So what's my beef? The same voice the other reviewers found "hilarious" I found grating, sophomoric and self-conscious, a sense of trying too hard to be clever. My reaction to this was so strong it put me off. But, as you can see, others liked this very thing, so there you are. In writing, as in cornbread, I reckon preferences and opinions run strong. To each his or her own.
Read it and eat!.......2003-04-15
I confess to not having tried a single recipe yet, but this book gets five stars from me just for the read. Jeremy Jackson is the next Edouard de Pomiane - very, very funny, surprising, smart, literate, and enthusiastic. Even if you hate cornbread (one word, note), you must have it. Buy it, read it, laugh out loud, and preheat your oven to 350F, because you, like me, will be dying to pup a butter-slathered hunk of cornbread down the hatch before you get half-way through.
Book Description
This book is for all people using, owning, or collecting fountain pens and their matching pencils. It will introduce the beginning pen collector to the hobby and answer questions asked by advanced pen collectors about the earliest and rarest of pens. With over 1,000 fountain pens illustrated in full color, full- or nearly full-sized photographs, it will help identify pens and provide the opportunity to examine many of the pens that were produced. George Fischler and Stuart Schneider are well-respected leaders in the antique pen world. They bring their love and knowledge of these works of art to this book. The examples they present represent the whole range of the history and production of fountain pens, from the earliest to the present and from the most common to the rarest. L.E. Waterman, Parker, Swan, Sheaffer, Wahl-Eversharp, Mont Blanc, Crocker, Chilton, Moore, A.A. Waterman and many other companies are included in this comprehensive, heavily illustrated history. In addition to photographs of the pens, a large representation of the company's advertising has been gathered and reproduced in Fountain Pens and Pencils. A must for collectors, dealers, and all those who appreciate the ingenuity and creativity of industry.
Customer Reviews:
Very Comprehensive.......2006-03-11
It is a big book with lots of information. Not a book for casual collectors. However it is "a must have" book for serious collectors. The first few chapters are especially very useful as they describe essential aspects of collecting pens and things to look for. They also tell the history and evolution of fountain pens. The history of the big pen companies are quite detail and of course there are lots and lots of beautiful photographs of the pens.
Best book buy........2005-09-08
I purchased this book for my husband for fathers day and he loved it. There were so many pictures. We could not wait to see if any of his collection was in the book. If you are a pen collector, this is definately the book to have.
Andre'a
Well worth the price.......2000-07-16
Simply put, this book is an essential item for any serious fountain pen enthusiast or collector. To the best my knowledge, only Andreas Lambrou's Fountain Pens of the World compares (or even surpasses it, actually) in scope and depth, and Lambrou's book is twice the price.
Nor is this book limited to the seasoned expert; I first read it as an utter novice and found it delightfully accessible (the plentiful color photos go a long way here.) The only caveat is that - as mentioned by another reviewer - the suggested prices seem very high; it might be a mistake for a neophyte to base purchasing decisions on the listings in this book.
Pass up that aero-filler 51 or that unrestored blurrily-photographed vac major, for the time being, and pick up a copy of this book instead. In the long run, it's a far better investment if you are truly interested in vintage fountain pens.
Overall a must-have book for the serious collector.......1998-09-22
This is a very good book for the serious collector. The price may seem high but for the wealth of information it provides it is a bargain. This is a new addition with the principle difference over the last addition being updated prices...some of which seem out of line high. Good illustrations. Not every color of a particular model may be represented but they do pretty well trying. Overall, I highly recommend it especially for the new collector.
Customer Reviews:
Not a good stand alone book, but decent as a companion.......2007-04-18
I would agree with previous reviews that the picture quality and overall presentation are not nearly as good as the Carving the Human Face book of Jeff's. I do think, however, there is worth in this book, in that it makes a decent companion to to the Carving the Human Face book. It goes into more detail in its specific area than the Face book and illustrates the differences between Native American and Caucasian faces, which the Face book does not. This made it well worth the price of admission for me.
If you only want one book. This isn't it, in my opinion. If you want a companion to Carving the Human Face, I recommend it despite the above limitations.
Poor photography.......2006-07-01
The pictures are so poor, there is a glare off of the wood so you can't see where he carved. You have to read the captions under each photo and try to follow along.
Carving the nose and Mouth ,a disappointment.......2002-11-23
This book is not on a par with Phares first book. Those who enjoyed and gained carving knowledge from "carving the Human Face" will be trully disappointed. The gallery pics are ok but the how-to photos are not the best. They lack clarity and depth.

Book Description
This beautiful fine art book presents 125 magnificent Roseman drawings on the dance at the Paris Opera. Created at a unique time in the history of the Paris Opera, the drawings span the years 1990 to 1996 - through the five seasons the illustrious Paris Opera, Palais Garnier, was dedicated exclusively to the dance and the first years the Paris Opera Ballet performed at the new Opera Bastille to the gala reopening of the Palais Garnier.
"Dressed in black to blend into the shadows, Stanley Roseman stands in the wings of the Paris Opera, capturing the grace and virtuosity of France's top ballet dancers with a few masterful strokes of a pencil." (The Associated Press, Paris)
Stanley Roseman and the Dance - Drawings from the Paris Opera is hardcover, 13 x 10 in., 254 pages, and printed in duotone on 200 gm satin paper. This handsome volume presents Roseman's drawings of the celebrated dancers of the Paris Opera Ballet and the international dance companies that appeared at the Paris Opera, including, among others, the Bolshoi Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, Bejart Ballet Lausanne, Tokyo Ballet, Netherlands Dance Theatre, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Twyla Tharp and Dancers, San Francisco Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, and the Martha Graham Dance Company.
The Bibliothque Nationale de France, in celebration of the reopening of the newly renovated Paris Opera, Palais Garnier, in March 1996, presented at the Bibliothque- Musée de l'Opéra (March 13 to June 9) the exhibition Stanley Roseman - Dessins sur la Danse l'Opéra de Paris. The Roseman exhibition was sponsored by Louis Vuitton.
Roseman has written an absorbing introduction to the book in which he speaks about drawing from the wings during performances at the Paris Opera, as well as his views on art and his passion for drawing.
This fine art book includes Roseman's drawings in the collections of, among others, the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; Bibliothque Nationale de France, Paris; Musée des Beaux-Arts, Bordeaux; Musée des Beaux-Arts, Lille; Musée d'Art Moderne - Cabinet des Estampes et des Dessins, Strasbourg; Musée Ingres, Montauban; Bibliothque Royale, Brussels; Israel Museum, Jerusalem; Albertina, Vienna; and the British Museum, London.
On the back of the book jacket are words of praise for Roseman's drawings from the star dancers of the Paris Opera.
The Bibliothque Nationale de France praised the artist for his "magnificent drawings" and concluded, "Stanley Roseman's drawings show the many facets of his great talents as a draughtsman."
Customer Reviews:
A book for those who love ballet and the dance.......1999-08-30
This is a very beautiful art book. The drawings are magnificent. With just a few pencil strokes Roseman has captured the movement, vitality and emotion of the dancers. One really has a feeling of the action as it is happening. The drawings are filled with power and sensuality and show an extraordinary range and versatility in the use of pencil as a drawing medium. The works of praise on the book jacket from the Bibliotheque Nationale de France and from the star dancers of the Paris Opera for Roseman's drawings are truly justified. Roseman has written a wonderful and absorbing introduction. I felt I was with him standing in the wings of the Paris Opera while he drew the dancers during performances. From his introduction one comes to know him as an artist and to appreciate his love for drawing. I was very impressed by what he has to say about art, and I liked very much when he spoke about the other subjects in his work as a painter and draughtsman. I am also delighted that the introduction includes Rosemans drawings from New York in the 70's of Nureyev and Mikhail Baryshnikov. It is evident that much care and concern went into the making of this very handsome volume, the fine quality paper, the appealing typography and layout and the superb reproductions. Those who have a love of beautiful books will treasure this book and of ballet and modern dance as well as by those who have a love of master drawings.

Book Description
No theme in history has captured the imagination like the American West, and no presentation of the drama surpassed the original Wild West shows. In this unparalleled theater, the cast of characters were themselves authentic heroes: Buffalo Bill Cody, Texas Jack Omohundro, Wild Bill Hickok, Captain A. H. Bogardus, Annie Oakley, Doc Carver ("Evil Spirit of the Plains"), Lillian Smith, Captain Jack Crawford ("Poet Scout of the Plains"), Sitting Bull and hordes of Indians, Pawnee Bill, and May Lillie. These pioneer stars and superstars were predecessors to the Western film and television personalities of later times, and to the troupe in the contemporary extravaganza at Disneyland/Paris.
Buffalo Bill's Wild West is a panoramic celebration of these colorful characters, who created the image of the West for Americans, and for the world. The book also celebrates the exciting and often flamboyant accoutrements and costumes, which were part and parcel of the stars' public appearance, and honors such characters as William Mathewson, recognized even by Cody himself as the "original Buffalo Bill."
The lavish illustrations feature the Michael Del Castello Collection of the American West, with portfolios of treasures from the Buffalo Bill Museum (Buffalo Bill Historical Center, Cody, Wyoming) and the Autry Museum of Western Heritage (Los Angeles).
Cody and his contemporaries made the West come alive to millions through their Wild West show tours of Europe and America. Lavishly illustrated and unsurpassed in its authenticity, Buffalo Bill's Wild West is a collector's item for anyone interested in the most fascinating array of all objects of Americana, and in the uniquely colorful saga of the West.
From the original Wild West shows of P. T. Barnum in Hoboken, New Jersey, to the spectacular entertainments of such headliners as Buffalo Bill and Annie Oakley, see the arms and accessories of the adventurers who charmed the crowned heads of Europe and brought America's Wild West culture to the world--in the process helping to make Colt, Winchester, Wells Fargo, and the West into American legends.
In this unique volume, the authors have produced the most spectacular, lavish, and detailed illustrated tribute ever to Buffalo Bill and his Wild West show-business originals.
Buffalo Bill's Wild West is an unmatched chronicle drawn upon decades of research and collecting, augmented with images by master photographers Peter Beard and Douglas Sandberg, and period photo-graphs and archival material from museums and private collections, particularly that of Michael Del Castello--featured at the Royal Armouries Museum, Leeds, in the summer 1999 loan exhibition "Buffalo Bill's Wild West."
In over 225 color plates and 160 black-and-white illustrations, with in-depth text and captions, the colorful arms, posters, photo-graphs, costumes, saddles, accoutrements, stagecoaches, and, for the first time, Buffalo Bill's Wild West Winchester Ammo Wagon, are brought to life. The extraordinary, exquisitely detailed illustrations include more than 50 posters and advertising broadsheets, over 100 rare cabinet card photographs, innumerable historic firearms, advertising art and trade cards, and show-business memorabilia.
All the renowned exhibition shooters are presented: Buffalo Bill Cody, Annie Oakley, Frank Butler, Doc Carver, Johnny Baker, Pawnee Bill, Lillian Smith, Captain A. H. Bogardus and sons, Captain E. E. Stubbs, Curtis Liston, Arizona Joe, and many more--all of them sports and entertainment luminaries of their day.
Designed as a companion volume to the bestselling Colt: An American Legend; Winchester: An American Legend; The Peacemakers; Steel Canvas; and Ruger & His Guns, this new work covers a fascinating period in history and entertainment that will never be seen again.

Buffalo Bill's Wild West: An American Legend is a Legend of a Book.......2007-01-05
I was looking for a gift for a true western history buff. Many of the books out there sugarcoat the story of the West. This one is the best book I have seen on an amazing man. The details of the adventures along with the non-colorized photos are just excellent. For anyone interested in this section of American history, this book should be on your bookshelf. It's also a very good coffee table book. Highly recommended.
