I have to disagree with the other reviews........2007-08-08
I'm only about halfway through this book, so I'll admit my review may be a little biased at this point. But this book, so far, isn't all everyones's cracking it up to be. Granted it will keep you reading, but the characters seem underveloped. Fancy is a mess, Desmond doesn't make any sense at all. But SaVoy is the one that confuses me the most. Why does she come off like a 14 year old rather than a grown woman? (How are old these characters supposed to be anyway?)Furthermore, she's supposed to be the devout Christian and church girl out of the three girlfriends, but she seems more confused about religion and her celibacy than not. I guess maybe I should've read the previous novels because this one lost me. I would suggest picking this one up from the library if you haven't read and loved the others first.
He's Just a Friend.......2006-09-03
Overall, I enjoyed the book. The character of Fancy reminded me a bit like Winter ( The Coldest Winter Ever). Young women like Fancy never wake up until their bad karma comes back to them. I liked that Savoy was saving herself, however I took issue of what she was saving. With Tyrone, she did everything but let Tyrone proceed with the act of intercourse. I feel if you want to stay a virgin until you get married , save everything ( being naked, performing oral sex and having it performed on you) until you are married. Savoy towed the line a bit too much for my taste. Now I must go read the other two books before He's Just a Friend!
Mary B. Morrison has done it again!!.......2006-02-18
I have just started reading this book. I picked it up because I wanted to read the books in sequence. I have never been so enthralled in a series of books as I have this one. Very good work. I also enjoy the brief synopsis of each of the preceding books, you know, just to bring you up-to-speed before you read the next installment.
A must-read.......2006-01-17
I have never read any of Mary Morrison's books- this was my first (yes, I made the ultimate mistake). Slow at the beginning but has a very fast and powerful ending and brings forth a strong message on love and sex. I know a lot of Fancys, Tanyas and Savoys in my life and it made the book even more interesting.
I am definately getting the rest of the books in the series- and am hoping they all carry the same compelling messages-
A Keeper!.......2005-12-04
Dont start here! (like i did) you gotta go back to Soulmates Dissapate. Hands down to Mary B. she is the Bomb....she got me fiening for the next installment to her wonderful series!!!

Customer Reviews:
A nice collection of short mysteries.......2007-03-31
My oldest daughter started checking out Agatha Christie novels from the library. She says they are cool. She left a couple books in the van last week. I brought them in and started reading Partners in Crime.
Partners in Crime is a collection of short stories tied together with an overall story arc. The partners are a husband and wife team who solve mysteries. Tommy and Tuppence Beresford are asked by the Secret Service to take over a detective agency in an effort to flush out a master spy. The Beresfords agree. As detectives they have several adventures. Every chapter or couple chapters has a single mystery. With the last chapter being when they capture the master spy that no one else had been able to get a handle on.
The stories take place in the early 1900's in England. The mysteries happen at various locations and different levels of society. I figure my daughter is learning a little bit of history as she reads these stories.
They are fun. If you haven't read an Agatha Christie book before, this is a good place to start.
Tommy Attempts To Use His 'Little Grey Cells'.......2007-03-11
Partners in Crime is an enjoyable collection of mystery short stories involving the droll Tommy and his cheeky wife, Tuppence.
The stories are bound together by a main thread, in which the Beresfords battle against boredom by taking up a Detective Agency under assumed names. As they tackle each case, Christie lampoons various detective fiction by having them solve the case "in the style of" a popular fictional detective, starting with (of course) Sherlock Holmes.
A clever, rewarding device, especially since Christie finishes with having her characters poke fun at her own famous hero, Hercule Poirot.
As with the other Tommy & Tuppence book I've thus far read (I'm reading Christie's fiction in the order of publication, so I believe this is their second appearance), the writing is light and whimsical and just a lot of fun. You might think of Agatha Christie's novels as being one undifferentiated mass of mystery fiction wrtiting, but you'd be wrong: within her genre, Christie wrote all sorts of types of stories in many different styles. What sets Tommy & Tuppence apart is a light, ironic sense of humor about itself and mystery fiction, in general.
A fun read. Four stars.
Light Amusement With Tommy and Tuppence.......2006-01-03
Originally published in 1929, PARTNERS IN CRIME reunites Tommy Beresford and Prudence "Tuppence" Cowley, first created by Christie for the earlier novel THE SECRET ADVERSARY; they are now married and, although happy in the marriage, Tuppence finds herself bored with the routine of life.
Her wish for excitement is answered when intelligence agent Mr. Carter puts a proposal before the two. A London detective agency has been found to be involved in espionage and its owner has been picked up--but government authorities want to keep the agency open in hope of tracing its illegal activities. How would Tommy and Tuppence like to take on the task?
This set up provides the frame for a series of short stories in which Tommy and Tuppence handle various legitimate calls upon the detective agency even as they hope to make contacts that will break the spy ring. There is Lawrence St. Vincent, whose lady-love has agreed to marry him... but only if he can solve a unique riddle. There is a stolen pearl, the odd scam, and a few murders as well--and, of course, espionage constantly in the background.
Along the way, Tommy and Tuppence have fun by adopting the methods, with considerably varied result, of famous fictional detectives such as The Old Man In The Corner, Sherlock Holmes, and even (albeit briefly) the celebrated Hercule Poirot. It is all very light hearted, lightly written, and as always when Christie elects to trot out Tommy and Tuppence the great attraction are the characters themselves--sharp, witty, and having a good time.
This collection of short stories comes no where near the brilliance of THE TUESDAY CLUB MURDERS, featuring Miss Marple, or THE LABORS OF HERCULES, only slightly less fine and featuring Hercule Poirot. Nonetheless, it is an entertaining sort of thing, and most readers will enjoy Christie's comic touch with her material. Good fun!
GFT, Amazon Reviewer
I despise Tommy and Tuppence.......2005-09-22
I like Miss Marple, I like Hercule Poirot, Superintendant Battle, Mr. Satterwhite, et al, but I do not like the Tommy and Tuppence stories. Somehow their adventures just sound a false note to me.
Putting the fun into sleuthing.......2004-07-05
No one does it better than Tommy and Tuppence. Amateur sleuths in their own way, they were not to be underestimated because both have their own ways to solve crimes, and even more interesting banters in between crime-solving. These shorties will make you love them and wish that the Queen would have written more of them in the past.

Book Description
Part cookbook, part travel journal, part wine guide,
To the Heart of Spain takes readers on a delightful, often irreverent "knife, fork and wine glass" journey through the regions of Spain. From the dusty backroad bars of Extremadura, to the trendy restaurants of Madrid, to the sand beach horse races of Andalusia, to the wine cathedrals of Jerez, Ann and Larry Walker pursue the heart of Europe's most mysterious land through its cuisine and the remarkable characters who bring it to the table.
To the Heart of Spain includes a complete Spanish cookbook section--from tapas to desserts--with more than 100 authoritative, kitchen-tested recipes; an inside view of the wineries and winemakers that have shaped a new era in Spanish wines; and thoughtful reflections on Spanish history and character of interest to travelers and armchair travelers.
An affectionate, first-hand portrait of the Spanish landscape and people,
To the Heart of Spain captures the essence of a Spain overlooked by conventional touring guides.
Customer Reviews:
Tasty stuff!.......2007-05-14
Using mostly descriptions (and a few of the recipes) from this book, I gave a very successful tapas/wine tasting party. Fortunately, the local liquor store had a number of wines from the bodegas mentioned in the book, and we had a blast comparing different grapes and regions. I also got one of the whites the book particularly recommends, and it was delicious. The food was probably the most unusual I have ever served at a party, and people got very excited about it. A very useful book!
local foods and local wines...yum........2000-02-28
This is not a typical guidebook with lists of where-tos and what-tos. The first 2/3 of the book is a gastronomic pilgrimage circling Spain. Ann and Larry don't attempt for example, to list every good restaurant and wine in Galicia. Instead there's a wonderful story about a quest to find the perfect Albarino (a local white wine grape)and the meals along the way. Somehow the story explains more about the nature of Celtic Spain than any other guidebook I've read. What was especially appealing is that Ann and Larry are not simply searching for the best restaurants or the greatest wine lists; rather their search is for the best of what the region grows. This is a major difference from a book structured on ranking establishments on some sort of scale that could be used in Toledo OH or in Toledo ES. What I want to see is Spain, and I think this book gave our trip a jumpstart.
Okay.......1999-03-03
This book was nothing special. It had some interesting things but it wasn't anything excellent
A book for those who love Spain........1998-06-29
_To the Heart of Spain_ is an excellent book, one written for real lovers of Spain. I think it might also encourage those who don't know Spain to visit it with an open and even positive mind-set. Americans, for some reason, often arrive in Spain with a somewhat negative attitude and then wonder why they don't enjoy their trip. The Walkers' book doesn't overwhelm you with guidebook-chatter, but is an unpretentiously personal and warm introduction to some of the charms of this most interesting of places.
I am a Spanish-English translator and I spend as much time as I can every year in Spain. I have traveled over the entire peninsula, since I can never decide which part of Spain I like best. When I read the Walkers' book, I felt I had met kindred spirits, people totally enamored of Spain, the land, its history, its food and its always unpredictable people.
You will enjoy the good, down-to-earth accounts of places they ate, stayed, drove, visited, etc. and of the many fine wines and meals they worked their way through in the process (what suffering!). There are also a number of really excellent recipes in the back of the book. They are authentic but have been extremely well adapted for American ingredients and cooking practices.
The Walkers are very knowledgeable about wines and give you fascinating little tips and sidelights on Spanish wine production. Even if your travel plans go no further than a trip to the liquor store, you'll find the book to be a useful guide to the still relatively new territory of Spanish wine.
All told, this is one of the most enjoyable travel/food books I have read in recent years, and it was a particular treat to read such a good book about my favorite place.

Book Description
The 1950’s house was a scientific triumph, designed in a laboratory and tested on inhabitants of all ages before being built for the masses. Never had homes been so thoroughly contemporary, with antiques and period styles entirely banished. Mid-Century Modern explores the interior decor of this seminal decade, concentrating on all aspects of a home's decoration—walls, flooring, surfaces, lighting, and, of course, furniture. Case studies examine beautiful present-day homes that exhibit mid-century style in an exemplary way, and suggest ideas for taking the 1950’s look—complete with collector's pieces—and mixing and matching it with elements from other eras.

Could someone possibly put together a better tome on Mid-Century Modern interiors than this exquisite piece by Bradley Quinn? They'd have one helluva tough time trying.
This book is fairly short and slim, yet every single page and photograph has relevance. Each photograph is of some aspect of a home interior and is absolutely fantastic. Not a single wasted shot. I'm assuming that the majority of people interested in this book are admirers of 1950s decor and would like to incorporate elements of this into their homes. What is so wonderful about this book is that the pictures themselves are of contemporary homes that have been decorated in that Mid-Century style, resulting in achieving that look without appearing dated - certainly the effect that I'm striving for! You want elegant beige lounges or loud primary colored kitchens? It's all here. And you just gotta dig the living room on p.42! Wow - have red and yellow ever been used to such devastating effect in such circumstances? And this is just one example of many.
Although it's doubtful that people buy books like these for their text, I think in this case, they'll be glad they did. Quinn discusses at great length the various components that made up the Modern style, providing tremendously useful ideas for home decor. He doesn't get into tedious sociological analysis like so many of these type of books do. Instead, he goes straight to the interesting stuff - how mid-century modern arose within the history of design, the components of the architecture and the lifestyles of the homeowners back then. Each chapter is broken down into a different aspect of decor - color, materials, lighting etc. Why can't all interior design books be arranged in this way?
I can absolutely recommend this book to anyone looking for '50s ideas for their home. I doubt I'd ever need to buy another book on this topic. Unless Quinn sticks in more pictures for a second edition.

Book Description
David E. Carter's "Big Book of Logos" series is nothing less than an international phenomenon.
For the first volume, David E. Carter chose 2,500 logos currently in use, and produced a major resource book for logo designers, an inspiring showcase of effective logo design from all over the world. The variety of styles and techniques covered the complete creative spectrum. The Big Book of Logos became one of the best-selling graphics books of all time, the first best resource to consult when devising a new logo.
Soon after, came The New Big Book of Logos featuring another 2,500 designs, and, after that, The Big Book of Logos 3, which is now available here, for the first time in an affordable paperback edition. Logo designers are always looking for sources of inspiration, wanting to see "what's new" and this book has it all. Every logo designer should have this on the shelf for frequent use, and the new paperback format (and pricing!) will ensure that The Big Book of Logos 3 will take its place alongside the series' earlier volumes as an indispensable reference for every designer.

Time to design a new logo.......2002-10-22
Just got my copy of Big Book of Logos 3 and I'm putting it to use already. I was just asked to design a logo and find this book a useful mind dump of 2,500 logos to get my brain cells working. My David Carter book collection has grown over the years and I find them a good place to start whenever I'm kicking off a new design project.

Book Description
Few major artists have aroused the ire and adulation of successive generations as persistently as Richard Wagner. Simon Williams explores the reasons for this adulation and antipathy by analyzing heroism in Wagner's work. Beginning with a definition of the concept of the heroic, Williams then examines it as a function of Wagner's theater and music. He also analyzes all thirteen stage works by Wagner as well as his adaptation of the Romantic hero figure.
