Book Description
Do you want to get ahead in life?
Climb the ladder to personal success?
The secret, master networker Keith Ferrazzi claims, is in reaching out to other people. As Ferrazzi discovered early in life, what distinguishes highly successful people from everyone else is the way they use the power of relationships—so that everyone wins.
In Never Eat Alone, Ferrazzi lays out the specific steps—and inner mindset—he uses to reach out to connect with the thousands of colleagues, friends, and associates on his Rolodex, people he has helped and who have helped him.
The son of a small-town steelworker and a cleaning lady, Ferrazzi first used his remarkable ability to connect with others to pave the way to a scholarship at Yale, a Harvard MBA, and several top executive posts. Not yet out of his thirties, he developed a network of relationships that stretched from Washington’s corridors of power to Hollywood’s A-list, leading to him being named one of Crain’s 40 Under 40 and selected as a Global Leader for Tomorrow by the Davos World Economic Forum.
Ferrazzi's form of connecting to the world around him is based on generosity, helping friends connect with other friends. Ferrazzi distinguishes genuine relationship-building from the crude, desperate glad-handling usually associated with “networking.” He then distills his system of reaching out to people into practical, proven principles. Among them:
Don’t keep score: It’s never simply about getting what you want. It’s about getting what you want and making sure that the people who are important to you get what they want, too.
“Ping” constantly: The Ins and Outs of reaching out to those in your circle of contacts all the time—not just when you need something.
Never eat alone: The dynamics of status are the same whether you’re working at a corporation or attending a society event— “invisibility” is a fate worse than failure.
In the course of the book, Ferrazzi outlines the timeless strategies shared by the world’s most connected individuals, from Katherine Graham to Bill Clinton, Vernon Jordan to the Dalai Lama.
Chock full of specific advice on handling rejection, getting past gatekeepers, becoming a “conference commando,” and more, Never Eat Alone is destined to take its place alongside How to Win Friends and Influence People as an inspirational classic.

My networking bible.......2007-10-09
This is the best book I've read thus far on networking. I try to meet and have lunch with someone new in my organization at least once a month and touch base with existing contacts after reading this book. It is a must have, even for the shy person. This book will help open doors for you. I read and passed this book along to other co-workers and they absolutely loved it. I highly recommend!
You get what you give .......2007-10-06
Generosity over courting someone hoping to get an in...The author points out that the key to success is holding a generous mentality toward others. Being a leader is based on working for and with others not ahead of or independent from them. When you are excited to help others progress their ideas, they will innately do the same for you.
Never Eat Alone.......2007-09-28
What a wonderful read!
At the core of this entertaining book are Keith's suggestions how to build a powerful network of friends and acquaintances. He starts out reasoning that you won't make it (or at least have a real hard time) in today's business world without contacts. What makes him really likeable though is his twist on the motivation and how to approach it. It is clear that he despises the calculating networking jerks that are just out to take something from a new relationship, but are not willing to give anything. On the contrary, his advise is to stretch out to others and offer your help, your advise where you have expertise, and your existing contacts to do the other a favor, and not ask and not even expect anything in return. He argues that return favors will come automatically and plentiful, without you asking for it (through your network, not necessarily from every person you ever helped).
As a personal advise to anybody's development, he offers a three step plan (sounds familiar). Only in the last step he suggests to actively look for people who can help you achieve your goals, and start networking so that you get to know them.
All throughout the book Keith parts with his incredible wealth of knowledge how to handle the most common situations on your mission to create your network, like dealing with the secretaries of powerful people (the gatekeepers), how to warm cold calls, following up, or the art of small talk. I have to say that I discovered many interesting tips that I had not heard or read before. Meanwhile, Keith is really entertaining, and this pearl never gets boring. There is so much information contained about how to start relationships, how to maintain them, and on principle how to be a people attractor that it will take quite a while for anybody to put all these principles to good use.
I admit that some of it may be too intense, and if you are not necessarily inclined or motivated to become a Fortune 500 CEO, some of the material sounds like overkill. Nevertheless, there are many aspects presented and advise given that apply to regular human interactions as well, and if studied and applied should help you become a better communicator and people attractor.
Tip of the iceberg for building relationships.......2007-09-27
Excellent read. Fast read that sets-up a lot of tangible strategies through heartfelt experiences of success and failure. Some great references to other texts that have also turned out to be fantastic reads.
Underwhelmed..........2007-09-23
After significant media PR, I went out and bought this book. Like that great movie your friends (the media) say that you have to see, this one is a pass. After you cut through the fluff, there are two important concepts to be taken away from this book: 1) always be networking and 2) the most effective way to network is to think about how many ways you can give value, provide leads, or be of service to those in your professional network - this goodwill granted will come back to you in spades.

Book Description
Jerrilyn Farmer's #1 LA Times bestselling Madeline Bean Culinary mysteries continue to prove to be scrumptiously hip, savoury, and irresistible. In this mass market reprint of her second hardcover, Mad Bean is at it again as a search for the perfect sax becomes deadly.
The dazzling Jazz Ball for the prestigious Woodburn School of Music promises to be event planner Madeline Bean's greatest triumph to date. All the rich and mighty of L.A. society's fund–raising crowd seem to be seriously enjoying the festivities. Of course, then everything goes straight to hell. Having to contend with a heap of celebrity trash, a ranting vocal coach, his rabid bitch of a girlfriend, and duelling preteen music prodigies is bad enough. But when the furious bidding war for the prize item to be auctioned off –– a one–of–a–kind, sterling silver Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone –– almost results in bloodshed, and the perfect sax subsequently vanishes, Madeline can't help but wonder what else could possibly go wrong.
Well䲨e could arrive home to discover a dead body in her bedroom. Her ex–beau LAPD Detective Chuck Honnett could start making insistent "take me back" noises. And then there's the red–haired stranger who seems to be stalking her. All in all, the lethal looniness surrounding the theft of a priceless instrument is threatening to drive Mad quite mad. With the jazz cool, the sax "hot," and the martinis smoking, it may drive her quite dead.

oh. makes me HUNGRY!.......2005-08-05
a caterer who solves murders. what could be more fun?? and jerrilyn packs a whole hoot into her novels -- cool characters, cool places, cool foodstuffs -- and it makes you want MORE.
a must for bean fans.......2005-08-03
Perhapse due to the larger number of pages (when compared with the rest of the series) perfect Sax manages to bring together not only a very effective two pronged mystery but a lot of the loose ends of Miss Bean's romantic life.
One of the best in the series.
A jazzy tale of mayhem and murder.......2005-07-19
I've read and loved every book in this series. But if I had to choose my favorite, PERFECT SAX would be it.
Who stole the silver sax that was auctioned off during the Jazz Ball--a swanky fundraising event catered by Mad Bean and her crew? How did one of the waitresses wind up dead in Madeline's bed? And who's that red-headed woman who keeps following Mad around town? In addition to exploring these intriguing mysteries, PERFECT SAX digs deeper into Mad's rocky relationship with the hunky Lt. Honnett.
The fast pace, tight plotting, and expertly drawn characters make this book a real treat.
Catering, murder, and theft of a prized saxophone.......2005-04-18
Madeline Bean owns and runs Mad Bean Catering. They are catering an event to raise funds for the Woodburn School of Music. A rare saxophone is auctioned off for one hundred thousand dollars at the Jazz Ball. Unfortunately when the couple prepares to leave with their new saxophone, it is discovered the case is empty. Someone has stolen the saxophone at the auction.
Before coming to the Ball, Madeline found trash strewn around her yard. It turns out to the papers belong to a nearby neighbor. When she sees this neighbor at the Ball, she tries to set up a time to return the papers to him. He misunderstands and thinks she's trying to blackmail them.
Can this night get any stranger? Oh, yes. When Madeline Bean is involved, nothing is simple and uncomplicated.
When she finally gets home, and I'll let you read the story to find out about her adventure in getting home, she finds a woman has been murdered in her bed. The police thought it was her. When her friends hear the report, they think it's her. Even Chuck Honnett, her ex-boyfriend the police detective, thought it was her.
She goes to stay with Wes until things can be sorted out and her house cleaned up. Soon it is discovered that she is in danger. Who is after her and why? Who can she trust besides Wes?
Then there is another murder and Madeline decides she'd better look into things before she becomes the next victim.
This is a fabulous series. I always enjoy reading about Madeline Bean's adventures. It is always a fast-paced, easy cozy to read. I can't wait for the next one!
The characters are wonderful. I always enjoy mysteries with food in them. And the writing is superb. I highly recommend this book and the whole series.
Good Read.......2005-03-24
The Madeline Bean series is a good one, full of interesting plotlines and fun characters, and this one doesn't disappoint.
The only thing I didn't like was that I felt there were too many things going on in this book, which made it a bit hard to follow and care about everything. I also thought the book went on too long after the climax.
Looking forward to the next installment.

A must-have for all Shadow Songs.......2000-04-25
This book provides great insight into the Bone Flower dharma. I really appreciated how each tenant of the dharma was examined and illustrated with colorful fables. I didn't begin to understand what this dharma was really about until I read those. There's also information on how Bone Flowers often view and interact with the other dharmas, and what life is like in different parts of the Middle Kingdom for Bone Flowers. If you're looking for amazing new powers and traits, you won't find many here, but if you're curious about how to role-play this dharma, this book will help. I look forward to future books in this series.
Not Bad.......2000-03-14
"The Bone Flower Dharma book included a lot of nifty detail and insight into what it means to be a Bone Flower. However, the White Wolf writers made the all too common stereotyping of shadowy, therefore assassins as was the case for the Lasombras and the Sluaghs.

Book Description
Combining stylish, contemporary looks with sturdy construction and ease of use, light-colored furniture produced by the Heywood-Wakefield Company from the 1930s to the 1950s was well received in its day and is wildly popular among vintage furniture enthusiasts now. Using hundreds of archival catalog images, this informative book follows the development of Heywood-Wakefield's wheat and champagne finish blond lines from their early streamlined look of the 1930s to the classic "Modern" look of the 1950s. Living room, dining room, and bedroom furniture is included, along with occasional tables and chairs galore. Works from designers Gilbert Rhode, Russel Wright, Ernest Herrmann, and Leo Jiranek are among these smart looking, timeless pieces that grace fashionable homes today. Includes original catalog descriptions, model numbers, measurements for all pieces, current price guide, and index.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent, but the other Heywood books are worth owning, too.......2007-06-24
On first glance, this looked like a near copy of the green Rouland & Rouland Heywood Wakefield book. It does not have the history of Heywood Wakefield like the green R&R HW book, which makes that book also worth owning. It is the same size as the green R&R HW book and includes many of the same catalog photos. This contains some nice original color catalog photos that were not in the green R&R HW book.
This is the ONLY Heywood Wakefield book with accurate prices for mint and refinished pieces. The green R&R HW book is way off and Harris Gertz's Heywood Wakefield book contains values for furniture found in well used condition. Harris's book has the best photos of Heywood Wakefield furniture.
Buy the books. Buy the furniture. You'll love it.

Graphic Designers need to buy.......2007-09-02
Fantastic!!! Just the Color book is worth the price. Every thing in here is a nice simple direction for designers. The information is great if you ever get stumped as to where to begin with any project. Plus it comes in a nice case to keep it all in. A fantastic resource.
Excellent Reference and Resource Combination of Books.......2007-08-23
Though the clasped plexiglass box is quite comely and altogether unnecessary, the contents are well worth the price. I am an independent Graphic Designer and have found these little gems to be of great value not only with ideas but also for technical guidance as well. Don't let their small physical size fool you, every page is packed with helpful info. Plus they have durable vinyl covers and are small enough to take with you and throw in a bag or purse if you want. Krause is a master of design and you'll find a lot of food for thought here.
A great design tool. .......2007-07-16
Just like writers, designers get "designer's block" these books are great for browsing and sparking new ideas. The color index has both CMYK and RGB values, and is great for finding new color combinations. The Idea Index is great for inspriation, and the layout index is great reminder that not all layouts have to be 8.5x11.
Great designer's resource. I highly recommend this boxed set.
Take the plunge.......2007-06-27
After borrowing my friend's book of color designs for nearly a year while redecortating my house, I finally took the plunge and bought the boxed set. I use the colors book the most, but the other two also have interesting combinations and design ideas. They are full of need to know information including how to be aware of what you are saying or emphasizing with your layouts. Wonderfully put together, these books will be useful to the beginner or the ultra experienced. And they come in their own cool box.
midget books for tiny minds.......2007-05-28
These books are so tiny they remind me of a certain appendage of my X husband dennis, and they are just too tiny to take seriously too just like him. They do come in a cute plastic case, but my X husband would use a sock.
