While I have to say I actually thought the format, well the plot device as one might call it, was novel and intriguing, I was overall underwhelmed by this book.
I wonder if anyone else noticed the fact that somehow the main character, Rosie, ages more quickly than her daughter, Katie. Rosie has the baby soon after her 18th birthday. When she is 25, her daughter turns 7, but somehow, by the time Rosie turns 36 her daughter is 16. Did no one else (ah hem--her editor!) notice that somehow her daughter is miraculously 20 years younger than her, rather than just 18. Maybe our authoress should have paid a bit more attention during Monday double maths.
also as mentioned before by another reviewer, when the heck does this book take place,?! 50 years pass but all the technology is the same throughout the book as though we've either had it for ever, or that in the future nothing ever changes or gets better.
Also when DOES Alex go to med school, and why is his residency 8+ years, maybe more? The details are all very sketchy and I think Ahern, besides befitting greatly from a few math and history lessons, could have also benefited from a writing class where perhaps she could have learned about making a plot and character map, so she could keep her story lines straight and consistent.

I think this was a fantastic story. It faintly reminded me of the movie: When Harry Met Sally. The timing of their relationship is always wrong and deep down they know that they are meant for eachother. They must have changed the title of the book because when I bought it, it was called "Love, Rosie". I see myself reading this again in the future.

I was a bit hesitant when I started reading this book because of the e-mail/im/letter format, but it turned out to be interesting and refreshing! The character development was great and the storyline interesting. Ahern presented a complex, realistic relationship between the novels two main characters, Rosie and Alex, as well as between Rosie and the other characters in the book. Ahern really seemed to understand that life can be fun and encouraging as well as dramatic and unpredictable.
I had never read any of Cecelia Ahern's novels before, but now I hope to read the others she has written!

Cecelia Ahern is now my favorite author! I was skeptical of the format for this book, so I put off buying it. I've read every one of Ahern's books and this one did not disappoint. I LOVED it, it's a great beach read. I've read all of Aherns books on various vacations and they are perfect for long plane rides and long lazy days at the beach. The first page of this book hooked me, I was laughing out loud. My favorite is probably still P.S. I love you, but it was almost my first Ahern read. If you are looking for an entertaining, page turning, girly book this is it!

This book was absolutely amazing. It can be for all ages, it isn't baby-ish nor inappropriate. The style it is written in is so creative and so easy to follow. I couldn't put the book down! Cecelia Ahern did an amazing job and I can't wait to read more of her books! READ IT and LOVE IT!

"Stop That Girl" is deliciously funny and highly entertaining. The way it is written is so smooth and effortless that at the end you feel like you have known the character all yout life. Each chapter is a free standing story of itself but yet when you connect them you end up with a skillful patchwork type story. In my own mind I liken it to eating Hor d overies as a meal. succulent and yet I desire more.

I could not put "Stop that Girl" down, and have now read it several times -the first time I read it, I was so captivated by the characters and what they were going through that I read it really quickly. Each time I have returned to it, though, I have slowed down to savor McKenzie's incredible turn of phrase, descriptive power, humor and tenderness. So many times while reading it, I laughed out loud and cried as well. Some people I know have asked on hearing the title, "is this a 'girlie-book'"? - I am able to tell them that is is a powerful tale about people, relationships and life told with humor and flair - this book will appeal to all. It's beautifully written. I am glad to see that the paperback is out, as it might reach an even wider audience. I can't wait to read more by Elizabeth McKenzie. She's brilliant.
Great Prose but Loses Cohesiveness in the End.......2005-12-09
STOP THAT GIRL: A NOVEL IN STORIES, is an unusual read. Most novels have a distinctive flow to them, following characters through their minute lives moment by moment. This book changes that structure by utilizing a collection of short stories, but telling each story about the same life through the main character, Ann Ransom. Although this can be engaging and make the material feel original, it also creates some problems.
But lets get into the positives first ...
Author Elizabeth McKenzie pulls us into a unique family - that of an initially young Ann Ransom's - and does so with wit, charm, and a fluid prose that many writers would find enviable. The pages fairly whip by during the first 3/4 of the novel and you laugh, cringe, and generally feel like a Peeping-Tom. I say "Peeping-Tom" because every intimate detail of these people's lives comes spilling off the pages, whether the reader wants that information or not. From learning about Dr. Frost (Ann's grandmother) and her overbearing personality that tears at the fabric of every relationship in the book, to Ann's attempts to distance herself from her family by any means possible - including driving 90 mph through the fog while an interview with the famous poet Allen Ginsberg takes place in the back seat, something that's both funny and poignant - STOP THAT GIRL delivers a coarse set of narratives that makes for enjoyable reading.
Where the novel broke down for me was toward the end. It felt terribly rushed as prime characters vanished from the pages and other monumental things happened but were glossed over with the barest of acknowledgments (Mother and Grandmother die; Ann gets married; A child is born, etc.). Perhaps the patching together of the short stories here needed a bit more work to make the ending flow smoothly.
It was a fun read, but it just could've been even more enjoyable if the final pages had a bit more cohesiveness when compared with the rest of the book.

This book was very enjoyable and a fun read but not something I would read twice.
The novel goes through the life of Ann Ransom. You meet her when she is very young and only living with her mother. By the end of the book, she is living with her son. Each chapter is a different time in her life and a different story. It comes together nicely though I did feel as if some of the stories were kind of like "fillers."
Maybe the problem was that I had very high expectations for this book and it didn't live up to them.

As it goes, never judge a book by its cover, this has no meaning! Just the cover looks excellent, the first few chapters are excellent! I never really liked sci-fi books but this turns the tables! About a man named Bill, who was mysteriously knocked unconcious and woke up completly naked in a world full of felpurs, orks, lizardmen, fairies and other bizarre creatures. On his quest to find out how to go home and how this happened he finds an extra-ordinary sword of which it fights for itself, starts a rebellion on rights by freeing human slaves, rescuing the needy and giving a helping hand. The book is full of magic and adventure. Anybody can read this book and love it! If you have some spare time do NOT miss this book!! This is a great achievment of James Reagens first attempt at a sci-fi book.

More than just a cookbook; also a spiritual book........2002-08-28
I highly recommend this book to other vegans and also to non-vegans who are interested in knowing why we do not eat or use animals or any products derived from them. And for those who would like that infamous question answered, "Then what do you eat?" Reading this book provided a very spiritual experience for me, with the quotes, poems and essays included throughout the book touching my heart and soul deeply. And the recipes throughout the book prove that we vegans do not really sacrifice taste and texture by giving up rotten carcuses. I think that you will really value this book as it is well worth the low price, in terms of your health and peace of mind as well as the environment. Most importantly, though, the animals will thank you!

This has to be the most beautiful cookbook I have ever seen! It is full of really cool drawings of cows, sheep, dogs, and flowers. I also really enjoyed the quotes from famous vegetarians. The cookbook is completely vegan and full of easy to make recipes. I really enjoyed the Carob Balls, Marinated carrots, Creamed spinach, and Potato Zucchini Casserole. The only drawbook this book has is that many of the ingredients are kind of expensive. I look forward to trying more of the recipes after I graduate from college.
A wonderful alternative to standard american diet cookbooks.......2000-03-27
people who understand the benefits of a vegan diet will love this book. this book is filled with great recipes. children as young as 6 can show signs of athersclerosis (hardening of the arteries) when they eat the standard american diet (meat- dairy-based). People who do not want their kids (or themselves) to follow an unhealthy path toward heart disease will appreciate what this book has to offer. I highly recommend it.

While the 1st edition of David Poores "Bible" of Zippo guides was outstanding his 2nd edition falls short. This would have been a great opportunity to add new pictures, variations and other information, instead what we get is the same old info from the 1st edition with updated pricing.

New Edition Needed.......2000-05-01
David Poore's book is the first english-only book to focus entirely on Zippo lighters. It should be on the shelf of every lighter collector. The pictures are well done and the date code explanation appears to be accurate.
However, recent discoveries have rendered the book obsolete, and a new edition is needed that incorporates the new findings. The sections on Metalliques, the Zippo Car, Town & Country artwork, and the Zippo Rule contain incorrect information.
There is little or no information about the rare Canadian, Advertising, or Emblem Zippo lighters. There are also some problems with the structure of the book itself.
For instance, each lighter is given an "access code." However, there is no explanation for what this access code is, nor a frame of reference that ties a given access code in with a corresponding Zippo ID number, resulting in painstakingly compiled information that is confusing and not very helpful. Also, although the section on advertising lighters is very sparse, there are references to "generic advertisers" and "featured advertisers." What is a "featured advertiser?" What is a "generic advertiser?" No explanation for these terms, or for how to determine whether a given lighter is one or the other, creates additional confusion. Several of the captions refer to different values for "featured" versus "generic" advertisers, so this is obviously a correction that is badly needed.
Despite these caveats, David Poore's book deserves to be owned by every collector of tobacciana. I bought two copies of the first edition, and eagerly look forward to a new edition that corrects the flaws of the first.
A comprehensive look at an American icon, the Zippo lighter.......1998-12-25
Poore does a first rate job in introducing and detailing the history of the Zippo lighter. The book is very easy to read, great detail is paid to the markings found on the lighters and their inserts. This book has become a bible for novice an expert alike. I find that this book pays dividends time and time again as an invaluable reference tool. More Military and Advertising Logo photos in the future would be well appreciated. I highly endorse David Poore's book as a must have for serious seller and buyer alike in the field of Zippos.
THE BEST Zippo book you can buy, ANYWHERE!!.......1998-08-24
David does a great job of describing different "eras" of Zippo, and how you can tell the difference between them. Wonderful illustrations of many wonderful lighters. Only problem I see is that it refers to 1932 Zippos, and it has been proven that production did not start until 1933. In that respect, a new release does need to be made, but still, the best one out there. WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!!

I can't believe that this book is out-of-print! I used it as a reference book when choosing the flowers for my wedding. I am an ignoramus about flowers and the four-color pictures were invaluable to me. Also Gilly Love lists flowers available by season which saved me a ton of money. If you can find this book, it is well worth the money.

This was exactly the book I was hoping it would be. It truly helps you choose colors from the popular brands of paint available. I was most interested in colors for a room with only a northern exposure. Every color I tried seemed to turn green on the walls. This book was extremely helpful in this regard. The only reason I gave it only 4 stars instead of 5 is the same reason others have commented on. The paint colors used in palette 28 and 29 were omitted from the reference guide in the rear of the book. It covers blue which is most people's favorite color so the omission is significant. Fortunately, for me, blue is my least favorite color.

Even thou I'm a professional Interior Decorator, this book doesn't give me much info I don't already know, also the colour samples are missing the manufacturer names and numbers to be found in stores. Yet the credits do mention which companies were used.
Everyday home decorator won't find any help from this one.
Two stars for the pretty pictures.

I think this book might be helpful for the professional interior decorator. It was just not what I was looking for in a color book. Each section generally starts with a page or two of colors squares, i.e yellow or yellow-orange. It then describes the color (A very 1950's yellow, warm and dense. Look at it with only the colors below and the three to the left). These pages are then followed with photos of rooms using some of the colors. The entire book is arranged this way. The red rooms are almost completely red (page 5-6) and very few of the rooms were my particular taste or style. Some of the color palettes that were used together seemed more jarring than coordinated, except when the author got to the more sedate, calmer colors (pg, 32, 38).
I prefer the BH&G - Color Schemes book which has a more realistic and useable color palette and presents them in beautifully decorated rooms. Again, this one might be more useful to the professional decorator, but for me it was too much text and history.

Its is a cool book for the collector and a definate buy for anyone looking to get a book for a Kitty fan( which is what I was doing), but I couldnt help think it was a missed opportunity to offer a more indepth catalogue of info and rarities. Still, I am sure it will encourage a few more ebay wish lists!

As previous reviewers stated, this book does not have "everything" that's ever been Hello Kittied but still it's okay and a nice coffee table piece. My guests always reach for it when they wait for me on my couch and they enjoy looking at the cute pictures and are surprised to learn all the paraphenilia created by Sanrio. So it's quite entertaining and my friends and I have looked through it more than once even though we are not hardcore HK devotees. I did learn something about Hello Kitty's origins in the first few pages and the names of her friends so it's not a total loss. The items in the book need more organization - some are arbitrarily placed and there's no real sense of chronology in terms of dates (the years of the items emergence are all mixed up). The pages are nicely laid out but it did leave a feeling of wanting to see "more" from the collection because there are things I own that are HK that are not in the book. They can't include everything so maybe the name should be changed to "Hello Kitty Hello Something" lol. Nevertheless, it's really cute and eye catching and entertaining for guests (mostly female) and I'm happy to own it.
hello kitty, hello (not quite) everything.......2003-03-02
While i would love to see an all-encompassing book detailing *everything* in the evolution of kitty, this isn't a bad place to start. It's really more of a novelty book, but I for one, was surprised to learn that there's even a dang HK vespa! and now i can not rest until it's mine.
The pages are laid out very clearly, and the uh..."necessities" are well organized. I would recommend this book if you can get a slight break on the price.
Not for serious Sanrio fans.......2003-01-18
I got this book as a gift, and was glad that I didn't pay for it. It's got some content, but most of it is just "fluff" for tha hardcore Sanrio fan. It has lots of pictures, including some vintage (that's my favorite Sanrio item(s) to collect). This theme has a lot of potential, and I hope someone makes a more definitive Sanrio "history" book, with more characters & information. I'm working on my own Sanrio history & such for my site ...that will have more of a history of the Sanrio Company. It was a good attempt, but could have been better if written by a more hardcore Sanrio fan.
A must have for an Hello Kitty Collector.......2002-08-31
Although the book does not have every Hello Kitty item to date (and I would love love love to see THAT book come out), it has a very good selection of items ranging over the years, that Hello Kitty collectors (like myself) like to see. Anything from the laundry machine to the waffle iron to the car, you can find it in here. Even the Hello Kitty golf clubs and Hello Kitty GameBoy!
If anything, it's a really cute book to have. The layout is adorable, and it's Hello Kitty! That should be enough within itself.
