Book Description
USA Today bestselling author of The Givenchy Code Julie Kenner reloads for her second novel of high-heeled thrills as another woman gets pulled into a mysterious world of extreme gaming where she must play or die.
Aspiring actress Jennifer Crane knows all about games -- the games girls play to get a guy; the games actresses play to land a part; and the good old game of credit-card roulette. (How else is a girl supposed to afford her shoes?) But she never expected to be playing a game with life-or-death consequences. Unable to successfully score an acting gig, she has, instead, been cast in the role of reluctant bodyguard to a real-life assassin's target -- a dashing FBI agent of all people! -- and must embark with him upon a scavenger hunt across Manhattan in search of the ultimate prize: survival. Before this, Jenn's definition of fighting dirty has been elbowing her way to the front of the line at a Manolo sample sale. Now, if she wants to stay alive, she's going to have to learn a few new uses for her stilettos. . . and they ain't pretty.
Fast, flirty, and full of great footwear, The Manolo Matrix is another electrifying adventure in this breakout series for fashionistas who love a perfectly appointed mystery.

fast-paced and fun, but something missing..........2006-09-10
I just finished this book and I really enjoyed it, but I have to say that the first book in this series (The Givenchy Code) was definitely better. I don't know if it was the more likeable and real main character (who shares my name!) in Givenchy or what, but I didn't like Jennifer as much as Melanie, she felt a little flat. I felt that this book wasn't as well fleshed-out as the last one, and there was a more exclusive feeling to the riddles that turned me off a little, since they were all Broadway-based, which barred me from even trying to figure out the clues on my own. But never mind that, it was still fun and entertaining and fast-paced, and it certainly kept my attention. I can't wait for the next installment in this series (and I'm bummed that it's to be the last).
Fun - But Not The First One.......2006-08-10
Girls in wonderful shoes, racing around New York City in search of clues and answers to save their lives. Basically the same as the previous novel, except some different characters and of course a different style of shoe. I found the novel to be entertaining, but lacking in comparison to the first. The first one had all of the exciting and intrigue of a new novel. Since this is so similar, well it has fallen short.
The story is about Jennifer, who was the roommate in the first book. And how she gets sucked into the PSW game along with the hunky FBI agent from book one. I can't tell you who is behind it or who "done" it or the outcome, but the novel is a fast and fun read.
mystery-romance.......2006-07-30
Jennifer is a waitress with Broadway asperations. She lives by herself in an apartment that she tries to keep safe because of what happened to her friend/ex-roomate the year before (Can find story in The Givenchy Code)
The next thing she knows she gets an email saying that she is sucked into the same Play.Survive.Win. game as her friend. Only this time Jenn is the protector and the target is the F.B.I man that is investigating. Using their knowledge of Broadway they try to solve the clues as they are being tracked by ex-con Birdie. Who is behind the game? Don't know we'll have to wait for The Prada Paradox to come out to find out.
Couldn't Put This Book Down.......2006-05-09
Julie Kenner has a true talent for pacing and characterization. Even though I never completely bought into the evil mastermind concept, the plot itself was engaging and I stayed with it the whole time. With the hero and heroine running all over New York City, trying to solve Broadway-related clues, I even found myself trying to guess what the clues might pertain to, even though they were fairly well over my head.
What really made this book work was the intensely personal relationship Ms. Kenner gives the reader with the two main characters. It's almost as if she's put a camera on extreme close up on them, with only brief pauses for the more panoramic view.
This really makes reader feel extremely connected to both of them-Marcus Devlin, a former Broadway child star, who gave it all up to be a cop, and Jennifer Crane, a talented but not-yet-living the dream Broadway actress get thrown together in this drama where they must race against the clock to stay alive.
Plain and simple, Marcus Devlin is a yummy character. He's a reluctant hero to be sure, but hero he is and he never strays from this path. His internal demons don't detract from the story, and in fact make him a great character for Jennifer to play against.
Jennifer's a Starbuck's lovin', shoe-obsessed wisecracker, and until she finds a time-release toxin has been released in her body, she doesn't take life too seriously. She hunkers down pretty quickly though, and the combination of her joie de vivre and her ability to concentrate completely prove to be a combination too irresistible for Marcus.
The reader should also find her hard to resist because she doesn't sit back and wring her hands, while Devlin does all the hard work. She's an active heroine, doing her own thinking and solving, while still allowing for plenty of room for Marcus' thoughts and actions.
THE MANOLO MATRIX is a novel well-worth reading. Although I was inclined not too like it (I just wasn't looking forward to reading yet another novel about an automaton shoe twit), this book quickly won me over, and I had a hard time putting it down.
Superb follow-up to The Givenchy Code.......2006-05-08
Another Julie Kenner story that I couldn't put down! The mystery is fast-paced and engaging, the hero and heroine have great chemistry, and the dialogue is fantastic. I love the first person chapters from the heroine's point of view -- she's wry and a bit sarcastic and sometimes lives in a little denial (just like most of us do). I'm looking forward to "The Prada Paradox" -- hurry!!

The wife of a wealthy Los Angeles businessman is found murdered in her bed with her lover, with the words Helter Skelter painted in blood on the walls. Columbo, America's favorite TV detective, must ask himself whether the horror of the Manson himself is ordering a fresh new round of atrocities from his San Quentin prison cell?To solve this case Columbo will have to face evil incarnate: the madman known simply as "Charlie."
Customer Reviews:
Suspenseful, frightening, and captivating!.......2001-03-29
In this novel, it is revealed that a young Columbo was one of the detectives who put Charles Manson behind bars. Now, he's back investigating the murder of a cheating wife and her lover. Her husband and his model lover were the murderers, who have cleverly framed one of his employees, a Manson girl once pregnant by Charles, with overwheliming evidence. As Columbo later comments, if they hadn't made so much evidence against her and left some work to do, they might have gotten away with it. Charles Manson himself appears in one chilling scene behind bars. Recomended to fans of Columbo, but a slight warning: Harrington added a few modern elements: sex (the pair are murdered in bed), language (seriously, it's a bit excessive!), and gore (described in detail the Manson murders and Khoury murders).
This book keeps you on edge as Columbo cracks the case........1999-09-10
This book is not quite as good as "The Hoover Files" but it is definetely worth getting. For all of the Columbo fans, this is a worthwhile book to purchase. It first takes you all the way back to the Tate-LaBianca murders and then jumps to the present when an astoundingly simlilar murder occurs, or at least made to look that way. The Murderer in the story has a perfect framing operation. Since one of his workers was one of the original Manson girls(who was not tried in that case), everyone will undoubtably suspect her; that is, everybody but one certain leiutenint.
Scared me s***less.......1998-09-25
This book was extremely mesmerizing. It was THE most twisted and terrifying book I've ever read, fiction or non-fiction. As long as your not squeamish, you will love it.
as delightful as the tv character.......1998-09-19
as a long time columbo fan, i have missed looking forward to new television episodes. the books fill the void. helter skelter murders is worthwhile reading

Modern technology is transforming our most basic ideas about the creation of wealth. This book reveals how a new way of economic thinking is essential for success in today's world.
Customer Reviews:
READ THIS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT ECONOMICS!.......2004-12-21
Paul Zane Pilser did a great job of explaining the theory of Alchemy and the application of it in Supply-side and Demand-side economics can produce an unlimited amount of resources and wealth for an economy. He also does a great job of discussing technology and how it is is extremely important to economic growth, how it can greatly conserve resources, it's infinite possiblities, and much more.
I learned a lot from this book!
a unified field theory for wealth.......2003-05-11
This book describes how to build wealth broadly enough so you can apply its principles to anything. its main principle is technology unleashes your ability to build wealth and by applying dormant but existing technology to resources will create enough value for you to achieve wealth. ie using the latest version software could dramatically improve your bottom line.
Probably the most inspiring principle for me is the statement: The faster you process information the faster you will achieve your goals. This makes total sense because if knowledge is power the most important knowledge is the knowledge that allows you to get more of it. I know alot of people who are determined to succeed but they learn so slowly that by the time they figure everything out it will be too late. With the rate of change today one of the skills you've got to have is the ability to learn rapidly!
A Real Eye Opener.......2003-05-09
I read this book many years ago and am still impressed by the clarity of the logic. It presents a wonderful view of the world as a place of abundance and wealth. This is a beautiful contrast to the belief many people have that the world has limited resources, so the only way to get anything is to take it from someone else. This book has forever changed my worldview.
Tim McMahon...
Mandatory reading.......2002-01-21
If you want to understand how the modern economy opperates and how you can take advantage of it, you need to read this book.
Dismantling the Classic Model.......2001-04-24
I first read Mr. Pilzer's book when it was published in 1990, then re-read it eleven years later. His words are as true today as they were when first printed. Through historical anaylsis, Pilzer deconstructs the economic views of our early education and skillfully builds a new model for our truly modern world. This is a must read for anyone interested in working with growth and change in their life and the world.

A humorous read.......2000-06-26
A twist on the average "coming of age" and "quest for the maiden" novels, a clumsy apprentice finds himself working in rather odd circumstances. While he sought to join the ranks of nobility and marry a fair maiden, he is apprenticed to an "aquatic alchemist." The only aquatic alchemist, actually. The two find themselves on a journey to save their town from demons, and they fall into much madness and mayhem along the way.
Very interesting, and not boring in the least, although it is a long read for its size. I recommend it for anyone seeking a good story with a strong undertone of humor.

Book Description
In recent years there have been exciting scientific discoveries about a powerful hormone whose role in the human body has long been neglected. Oxytocin is the hormone involved in bonding, sex, childbirth, and breast-feeding, as well as in relaxation and feelings of calm. It is the mirror image of the stress hormone (adrenaline), which triggers the "fight or flight" systems in the body. Much has been written about the latter but the many-sided importance of oxytocin is currently known only to specialists in obstetrics, physiology, and psychiatry. The Oxytocin Factor, by Dr. Kerstin Uvnäs-Moberg, is the first book on the subject for a general audience. The new research findings, as well as the potentially beneficial applications of this hormone in reducing anxiety states, stress, addictions, and problems of childbirth, are not only fascinating but of great significance to all our lives.

Prestige des Grands Chefs More than a century ago, the techniques of modern French pastry were developed. Since that time, the paper cone has been one of the basic tools of the «pätissier». The information in this book will help the novice get started and inspire the professional to improve his or her technique and to express this art in new ways. The first section of this treatise on the paper cone includes the basic techniques for using this simple tool. By following the progression of the 120 practice sheets that make up the major portion of this book, you will obtain the skill to pipe a wide variety of decorations. These practice sheets also have been designed to be used apart from the book to trace the designs over and over. After you have mastered the designs on the practice sheets, the last chapter shows a wide range of finished works of pastry art as well as ways of using the paper cone to pipe designs for plate presentation and other applications. Food professionals and enthusiastic amateurs at all levels of proficiency will be guided to improve their results. For very little cost in equipment and materials, you'll produce spectacular decorations.

Came without the necessary 8" X16" practice sheets!.......2005-09-14
Beautiful book, but you are advised to have (their spelling) "A very diseful additional tool" --- 120 color coded practice sheets that are to be used apart from the book. Not here, and you can't get them on the web. The publisher, John Wiley, is not up front about this. Shame on them.
The sheets are produced in mini version on the book's pages. You could xerox them, I suppose. It's a major annoyance, though.
Decorating With A Paper Cone.......2000-08-04
Having just joined the world of cake decorating, I have found that the book have expanded my skills through detailed step by step examples. It also have enhanced my design ability to create more interesting cakes. What a great find that I cannot do without.

Shelley Tea Ware Patterns.......2007-08-24
This is a great reference book for Shelley china collectors. It shows pattern shapes, pattern numbers and color photos of the hundreds of Shelley tea sets. Great for a beginning collector or for someone who wants
to catalog their collection. Also,it gives the history of the Shelley company from 1860 to its end in 1966. I like this reference book the best of all the Shelley books I have collected.

Excellent! Really Inspiring!!!.......2004-06-21
This is an excellent book for anyone looking for some fantastic inspiration. Perfect for quilters, rubber stampers, & scrapbookers alike. This wonderful book bridges the gap between all these artforms, and pushes you to dive enthusiastically into the fabulous world of mixed media.
Beginners, never fear as the author gives detailed instructions & fabulous tips ranging from fabric selection to cutting & assembling. You'll have help every step of the way.
This book is also full of many beautiful examples of different types of quilts, from various contributors, so you can see a variety of ideas and applications for quilted assemblage.
I would highly reccomend this book for anyone who is interested in quilting, rubber stamping and/or scrapbooking. It will definitely help take your art to the next level.
paper embellished art quilts.......2004-04-21
I don't know what I was thinking when I ordered this title. I thought it would include fabric stamping not just paper stamping. This is for scrapbookers more than quilters. The quilts are made by embellishing with paper that has been rubber stamped and objects glued onto the project. Not washable and definately not for me. Doesn't seem very durable and falls into art quilt catagory. I was interesting in learning more about embellishing quilts but paper and glued objects does not do much for me. I am sure it would appeal more to the scrapbooker or fiber artists more than a more traditional quilter who enjoys fabric and washable quilts.
Book Description
The Tuscan house, whether a simple homestead or expansive villa, has become one of the most sought-after living environments. Its design is virtually unchanged since the Middle Ages, when landowners in the golden hills of Tuscany built country retreats with gardens, porticoes, and loggias. The landowners often drew upon the natural resources of the region-and it is these materials that give the Tuscan house its unique character. Tuscan Elements brings to life the colors, textures, and aesthetics of the Tuscan house-the magnificent stone and marble work; the hardwoods like chestnut, oak, and elm; earthy terra-cotta and brick; and the all-important water feature, used in ponds, fountains, and pools. This unique, visual sourcebook deconstructs the typical Tuscan home and examines its basic components in dazzling detail, from the tiled roof and floor, thick stone exterior walls, and vine-covered loggia to the exposed wooden beams, luminous frescoes, and the sunny courtyard garden with an ancient well or exquisite swimming pool. Filled with extraordinary photos by world-famous interiors photographer Simon McBride, Tuscan Elements emphasizes living life well with a home that nurtures and comforts, accentuates the importance of family and friends, and entertains with good food and drink. For anyone interested in infusing their present home and garden with a little bit of Tuscany, here is a delightful source of never- ending inspiration.

Great Book.......2007-05-06
This book is filled to the top with great quality pictures. Wonderful inspiration for me and our new home which we are doing a Tuscan Theme. Will make a good coffee table book as well :)
Too Primitive!.......2006-07-11
The disigns elements were too rustic for my taste. I was looking for more of a casual elegence.
Tuscan Elements.......2005-08-19
This is the best book of its kind that I have seen on basic Tuscan home design elements. Concise descriptions, beautiful photgraphy. I would heartily recommend this book.
Tuscan Style.......2004-12-24
I normally don't buy tabletop table books because I don't feel that they represent a value or add much to my understanding of a subject. Tabletop books full of incredible pictures just do not fully capture my imagination or attention. Consequently, most tabletop books get a cursory flipping through before I put them down.
However, `Tuscan Elements' is more than a book of pretty pictures and it is worth more than just a cursory flipping through. The author, Alexandra Black, has organized her effort to capture the elements of Tuscany. The four elements are stone, wood, earth, and water. These four elements are expressed in the homes, furniture, terracotta, and ponds, respectively, of Tuscany. To stand alongside the pictures of these four elements, Ms. Black takes the time to build a supporting story from a historical and literary point of view. Quoting D.H. Lawrence and Pliny the Younger, the story of how these elements have been woven into the ebb and flow of Tuscan life since before the Roman Empire emerges with an impressive clarity and vividness.
As a lover of Tuscany I am drawn to images of Tuscany and its way of life. The seductive beauty of the Tuscan landscape and the romance of the Tuscan lifestyle as expressed in the prose and images of this tabletop book is the stuff of dreams. This tabletop book provided me the fodder for those dreams and never once disappointed me.

A good review.......1999-09-15
I didn't realize this book was focused on the Rock and Roll Cowboy bootleg. I didn't have the bootleg when I bought the book but I still was able to enjoy it. I found Williams reactions to the songs interesting and it made me want to get the bootleg even more. When I finally did get it I reread the book and enjoyed it even more.
The music but not the man.......1999-06-26
Williams has written an ambitious book which attempts to review Young's music from his earliest commercial releases in 1966 through 1994. As the other reviews indicate a large portion of the book is devoted to a song by song review of the Italian bootleg 4 CD retrospective "Rock and Roll Cowboy". Unlike those reviewers I had owned "Cowboy" for years before reading "Love To Burn" so my criticism of the book is a little different. Put simply, this book should be titled "What Neil Young's music means to Paul Williams." While Williams has some interesting thoughts about some songs that's all they are -- his thoughts. Second, Williams sometimes succumbs to the dread rock reviewer's affliction of writing pretentiously and sometimes sounds like a sophomore English Lit major who just had his first class in music theory. For hardcore Neil Young fans it is in an enjoyable read because it is interesting to compare and contrast one's thoughts with Williams' but the book offers little insight into the thoughts of Neil himself. Of course, no available book has done that because Neil is not forthcoming and does not allow the authors opportunity to pick his brain. Which is a shame because Young is the most important figure in rock history (a bold assertion I know but one that could be amply illustrated by the RIGHT book), and his personal life is a remarkable story as well. We need but lack the magnum opus which chronicles how a kid from Canada came to L.A. formed a seminal and hugely influential band moved on to superstardom as a solo artist and with CSNY, then deliberately abandoned mainstream acceptance with a series of the darkest, rawest albums ever released by a pop musician (Time Fades Away, On the Beach and Tonight's the Night), only to end the 70's with a series of successful albums that contained not a hint of compromise to commercial formulas. Then after reaching the top a second time, Young again (to borrow a phrase from Dylan) threw it all away-- with a series of albums so determinedly eccentric as to alienate all but his most devoted fans. Then at an age when his contemporaries were all either dead, retired or all but irrelevant he soared again for a third time with a stunning series of albums including Freedom, Ragged Glory, Weld and Sleeps With Angels ( and more after the book was published). Williams meticuoulsy chronicles the music but misses them man who produced the largest, most daring and most compelling body of work in rock history. Unfortunately we Rusties have to make due with books such as this rather than the definitive biography (or dare we pray, autobiography) because of the Neil's reluctance if not refusal to divulge his essence to others. But in the end it is maybe just that reluctance, or maybe ambivalence is a better word that makes Neil what he is. The man clearly wants acceptance and success--- but only on his terms. He does what moves him at the moment and hopes it is popular but won't change a note or a word to make his music more accessible or commercial. And, in the end he has succeeded. I can listen to the music and discuss it with my friends so william's book gives relatively little to the hardcore Young fan (and who else is going to read a book like this?) other than an enjoyable night's read while blasting Rock and Roll Cowboy or other Neil on the stereo----- but you can do a lot worse than that with your time.
It should include the bootleg.......1999-05-28
This book could have been titled: "Review of a Bootleg."
I would have enjoyed this book a LOT more if I had had the bootleg "Rock and Roll Cowboy" to listen to while reading it. Williams is a great writer, but he spent far too much time discussing this bootleg that the average joe can not get. Thus I ultimately found the book to be incredibly frustrating and ended up TRADING IT FOR THE BOOTLEG! There's some kind of justice in that.
Enjoyable insights -but you must have the CD's discussed........1998-09-16
Book is very enjoyable as a listening companion to the music discussed. As usual, the author brings enlightening, personal observations on the music and artist. However, the majority of the book centers on the unofficial 4 CD bootleg "Rock and Roll Cowboy", which covers live performances for most of Neil's career. Until I tracked this bootleg down, reading the book was frustrating (to say the least). Once I got the bootleg, the book was immensely enjoyable. (So, there is no point to reading the book without having the music discussed.) (By the way, the music in this bootleg is a MUST for serious Neil Young fans.) - WGL
