Two romantic tales of dark forces
and Christmas miracles...
The Twilight Before Christmas
Bestselling novelist Kate Drake, one of seven sisters with amazing powers of witchcraft, wants to open a bookstore in a charming but run-down mill in her California hometown. Decorated former U.S. Army Ranger Matt Granite, now a contractor, doesn't mind helping -- and getting closer to Kate. But when an earthquake exposes a crypt in the mill's foundation, a centuries-old evil threatens to destroy both Christmas and the gift of soul-searing passion Kate's hometown hero wants her to keep forever....
After The Music
Terrified by mysterious threats, Jessica Fitzpatrick takes her twin wards to the island mansion of their estranged father, Dillon Wentworth, a famous musician who shut out the world after a fire claimed his wife's life and left him disfigured. With Christmas approaching, the spark between Dillon and Jessica might light the future, but the evil machinations of those who share his wife's love of the occult may plunge the family into darkness -- unless a Christmas miracle occurs....

I really love this book. It has 2 very good short stories. I usually don't care for short stories but these were both well developed and didn't seem to leave anything out. Ofcourse the continuing saga of the Drake Sisters is one I can't wait for Christine Feehan to continue.

Book Description
Sassy, risk-taking attorney Spiegel Cullen embarks on a murder case that splits delicate daydreams and professional integrity right down the middle. The accused, Breanna Jordan, captivates most with her easy curves and sunlit smile. But Spiegel, who has known Breanna for many years, has seen another side of this sweet hazel-eyed beauty.
Hours after Breanna secretly boards a plane back to Philadelphia, the body of her lover washes ashore on the pink, sandy beach of Horseshoe Bay in Bermuda.
For more reasons that she cares to admit, Spiegel has mixed feelings about this case. Breanna happens to be the sister of her ex-lover, James Jordan, who scorched her heart after he ended their ten-year relationship. Regardless, Pennsylvania Congressman Felix Jordan wants Spiegel, and no one else, to get his daughtercharged with first-degree murder"out of this trouble."
Spiegel wants nothing more than to carry on with her new man, a scant attempt to move beyond James. But when Spiegel realizes that her dreams erotically involve James, things get complicated. The unfinished business between James and Spiegel plays out in this witty courtroom drama as Spiegel searches for answers to get Breanna off the hook before time runs out.

Good story but..........2006-11-26
Gail Ramsey has a good basis for a story here but the way it was excuted was fairly poor. The dialogue and description of the action didn't flow and lacked incredibly. It needs to be tightened up. I'm curious to see how her other novels read.

Reviewed by Paige Lovitt for Reader Views (8/06)
Gail Ramsey has written a winner with "Tick Tock." The main character, Spiegel Cullen, has taken on a case involving a congressman's daughter being accused of murder. The story takes you from Philadelphia to Bermuda. Breanna, the accused, is an interesting character that has some emotional difficulties. These lead to some fascinating moments. Breanna is also Spiegel's ex-boyfriend's sister. In addition to the murder, Speigel has to deal with being around the ex and his newly pregnant wife. My heart went out to Speigel in trying to deal with her unresolved feelings for him. Her current boyfriend, Craig, shows up on the island with a "friend" that happens to be a curvy female. Spiegel is not thrilled about this either.
"Tick Tock" involves some interesting characters and plot twists. It is really an enjoyable mystery. Spiegel's character has been developed in such a way that she feels like a real person. If she was a real person, she is someone that I would want to be friends with. I could relate to her feelings involving both of the men in her life.
The storyline is really entertaining and it is more appealing because it is taking place in Bermuda. The laws are a little different in Bermuda, this makes Spiegel's work more difficult. Spiegel also has to deal with a health scare involving a blood disease. She is too busy to have to take care of it, but it stays in the back of her mind as she is trying to win her case. Her sister supplies her with a great deal of support.
Further drama is created with the family of the murder victim. Spiegel finds herself being stalked by one and Breanna receives threats. There is a really interesting scene in which she shows up at the victim's funeral. He also has a long term fiancé that was not pleased with his cheating.
I highly recommend this novel to readers that enjoy fun mysteries. This would be great for a readers group to discuss. It would lead to lively discussions. You will not be disappointed with this novel!
A New Twist to the Bermuda Triangle - Murder.......2006-08-03
"Tick Tock" combines the elements of police investigation, court room drama, suspense, and danger. The battered body of Sean Thomas is washed ashore hours after a "lover's quarrel" with Breanna Jordan, Senator Felix Gordon's daughter.
Breanna flees the scene of the argument and flies back to her father's home in Philadelphia. Breanna is extradited to become the defendant in a high profile murder trial. A close friend, Attorney Spiegel Cullen defends Breanna.
Ms Ramsey has a vibrant quality to her writing. Her plot is fast moving and compelling. There is a recurring sexual undercurrent throughout the story as Spiegel, her sister Alia, and her friend Breanna attempt to resolve unhealthy relationships to find true love and fulfillment.
The characters have become true to life, giving the reader a sense of appreciation, dislike, respect, or amusement. Ramsey's attention to detail in descriptions, physical, and emotional add a dimension to her work.
Gail Ramsey has drawn from her own background in law, public relations and journalism, to write this gripping novel.
The dramatic suspenseful final chapters carry the reader through to an unexpected action-packed conclusion.
I am looking forward to more novels by upcoming author Gail Ramsey!
Romance Novel with Depth and Soul.......2006-07-23
Filled with quick-funning, crisp dialogue, and wet sex, this novel is a romance with depth. There are some lessons here in wasted emotions for those who choose to pay attention.
Excellent!!!.......2006-02-11
This book is a great read. The imagery and metaphors give a sophisticated flare to the storyline and keep you interested throughout the entire novel. I especially liked the flow of the story and the way it was written. As the character's personalities unfolded, you could really see things coming to life.
A captivating novel with a great ending, I will be reading it again, in fact, in the near future.

Book Description
Tommy Phan is a successful detective novelist, living the American Dream in southern California. One evening he comes home to find a small rag doll on his doorstep. It's a simple doll, covered entirely in white cloth, with crossed black stitches for the eyes and mouth, and another pair forming an X over the heart. Curious, he brings it inside. That night, Tommy hears an odd popping sound and looks up to see the stitches breaking over the doll's heart. And in minutes the fabric of Tommy Phan's reality will be torn apart. Something terrifying emerges from the pristine white cloth, something that will follow Tommy wherever he goes. Something that he can't destroy. It wants Tommy's life and he doesn't know why. He has only one ally, a beautiful, strangely intuitive waitress he meets by chance—or by a design far beyond his comprehension. He has too many questions, no answers, and very little time. Because the vicious and demonically clever doll has left this warning on Tommy's computer screen: The deadline is dawn.

Amazing Read.......2007-09-16
Now I feel I should start off this review by adding that i have only read one other Dean Koontz book besides this one, that being Velocity. I noticed something throughout both these books, I instantly fell in love with the characters and that's coming from someone who isn't so much into reading. I was introduced to Dean Koontz in my high school years(Last year) and ever since I read Velocity I decided I was going to pick up another Koontz book sooner or later. If you're new to Koontz I would strongly reccommend Tick Tock. In my opinion it is a great read and it is fun, I couldn't put it down. I know he has much better books out there but this one is just as good for me.
I'd rather read a textbook than this s.hit. .......2007-09-12
I don't even know where to begin on this monstrosity. It's my second Dean Koontz book I have read and now I am never going to read another. Here are a few highlights of the book:
- voodoo ragdoll that grows to size of man
- rich psychic waitress... whose mom is a racecar driver and her dad was a famous poker player... Are you joking, you pathetic excuse for an author? Answer me, Koontz, you d.ickbreath.
- alien dog
- alien abductions... anal probe scenes
- hot dog sucking contest - Dean Koontz takes the cake on that one
- main character is best selling author of detective novels
- 3 pages about the benefits that tofu has on the prostate gland...yummy
If this isn't the worst storyline you've ever heard then you have read some serious s.hit and I feel sorry for your experiences with (as unbelievable as it sounds) lesser books. It's peppered with the most horrendous dialouge; think Gilmore Girls but somehow more annoying. I honestly didn't think that was possible but Koontz pulls it off. Here's an example: (p. 125) She's talking about her dog, Mr. Scootie.
"Not just my dog. THE dog. The essence of all dogginess. The coolest canine on the planet. No doubt in his last incarnation before Nirvana. That's my Scootie." Please God, kill me now...I beg you. I've read this book and I will never be able to forget it.
Weird.......2007-09-05
I just recently started reading Dean Koontz, and I have mixed feelings. The most recent book I picked up was "Tick Tock." It was a fun read, but like some of his other books, I felt like he couldn't really decide where he was going with it. He wasn't sure if it was a comedy, or a sci-fi novel, or a love story... The effect was a little unsettling. I also felt like he wasn't sure how to end it, so he just slapped together a quick conclusion so he could move on to something else. The characters are a hoot, though -- especially Mrs. Phan and Del. Overall, just so-so.
A horror story morphs into a screwball comedy.......2007-08-28
Tommy Phan is a Vietnamese-American who, much to the dismay of his very traditional family, likes to stress the American. Instead of going into the family business, Tommy earns his living as a novelist. His series character, Chip Nguyen (star of such memorable epics as Murder is Bad Habit), has become very popular, allowing Tommy to afford some of the finer things in life, like the aqua Corvette he purchases as the story opens. Tommy, who has lusted for such a car since the day he arrived in America, knows he should be ecstatic, but can't shake the feeling of foreboding that descends on him at the auto dealership.
Almost immediately upon his return home, the doorbell rings. Tommy answers the door, and finds a rag doll lying on his doorstep. At first, he is concerned the doll may be some kind of warning from a local gang, angry with him for writing a series of unfavorable articles a few months earlier. That concern is short lived, however, as something (Tommy later dubs it the "doll snake rat-quick little monster thing") starts to emerge from the doll and attacks him.
Tommy fends off the creature and abandons his home, but not before two mysterious messages abruptly appear on his computer screen--THE DEADLINE IS DAWN and TICK TOCK. Driving away, he concludes he is safe, but then the Corvette shudders, and he realizes the creature is in his car. He crashes, and flees on foot, pursued by the monster, who is growing at an alarming rate. He flags down a ride, and, in weird coincidence, is picked up by the aptly named Deliverance Payne, a flirtatious waitress he met earlier that day.
Here, the novel takes a humorous turn. By introducing Del, Koontz adds a decidedly comic element to this previously grim story. Level headed and witty, Del pokes fun at Tommy's foibles even while they fight for their lives--she calmly accepts his bizarre story and offers her help. Taking the mysterious messages at face value, they seek to outwit the monster until dawn. Together, they fend off several more attacks, eventually discerning the monster's incredible (and funny) secret.
Tick Tock reminds me of Quentin Tarantino and Roberto Rodriguez's cinematic collaboration From Dusk 'til Dawn. There, a crime drama morphs into a horror movie. In Tick Tock, a horror story becomes a screwball comedy. This approach, which ruined the movie, works very well in the novel. Although Koontz appears to abruptly switch gears, he carefully seeds the initial portion of the book with humor, setting the stage for the enjoyable farce it becomes.
Koontz, succeeding in his stated goal to write something "lighter," doesn't cheat long time fans. The first third of the book is reminiscent of Richard Matheson's short stories "Prey" and "Duel," but thereafter becomes an altogether different book, reminiscent of Thorne Smith's work, as it's solid, stolid hero is swept off his feet by a larger than life heroine. Koontz deftly handles both aspects, interweaving them to great advantage. Part of this book's magic is that the monster remains a credible menace throughout, even when the humorous elements kick into overdrive. Koontz keeps tensions high, in spite of the odd goings on and increasingly humorous dialogue.

This was yet another great book by Dean Koontz!! I was on the edge of my seat until the very end!!

A love story to sing about.......2006-05-14
Young Felimid was cast out for a year in the effort of erasing a blood-feud. The one year stretched into many, as the world jumped up at the bard and never let him go. After becoming the lover of a pirate queen, Felimid postponed his return home for her sake. But the promise to join him on his way home could never be fulfilled, as her enemies gathered forces and laid siege to the pirates' stronghold. When, conquered and shamed, Gudrun dies, Felimid expects to die too - for he was the one that stood by her to the bitter end.
To him, the silver-tongued bard, fate must show a crueler face: he's to live only if he can charm the raising waves of the coming tide with his song... But Gudrun bade him live to sing of her, and this promise he'll try with everything he has, to fulfill.
A nice, sad, romantic fantasy. Recommended for those who appreciate Irish fantasy.

Get Healthy Now.......2005-02-05
This self-help book on good health is superb. The book is an easy-to-read primer on the metabolic syndrome (also called pre-diabetes) - a condition that, according to the author who has practiced Internal Medicine for many years and teaches at a major medical center, has become a worldwide epidemic. The chapters are neatly outlined on obesity, metabolic syndrome, and diabetes. There's even a chapter that explains how the immune system and stress contribute to one's susceptibility to these conditions. What's makes it extra special, though, is the concise way the author explains how these conditions are "inflammatory diseases" of the body, the self assessment test quantifying your risk for disease, and the treatment (including traditional and alternative therapies) to forestall or prevent progression to diabetes and heart disease.

Comprehensive History, Great Humor.......2003-04-10
From the author's original poetry about Red Wing in the front, to the catalog pages in the back, this is the most comprehensive guide to Red Wing area stoneware I have ever seen. I borrowed this copy from my father, as it's nearly impossible to find around here (and I live somewhat near Red Wing.) The author has a tremendous sense of humor, and the book brings life and personality to the artisans who created such wonderful pieces of functional art. Book also features several wonderful pictures of one-of-a-kind "lunch hour" pieces, those made by the workers over their lunch hour for informal competition and to bring home to mothers and wives. Highly recommended for both the casual collector and those long since bitten by the bug of "Red Wingus - Collectoritis"

Skip this book!.......2002-09-14
The book is very difficult to follow and the plans for the jigs are quite poor. The prose is often distracting and it feels like this is either the author's first book or he was in an hurry to finish it. The pictures are all black and white and too close to the subject. You really get the sense that the author is more concerned about showing off his jig making skills rather than helping you make your own. I also dislike his blatant plugs for both Porter Cable routers and his offset subbases that he wants to sell you.
...
Ready for the Next Level?.......2001-05-03
This is one of those rare woodworking books that combines plenty of great technical information and an inspirational, even challenging, message. Regular readers of magazines like Fine Woodworking and Woodwork know Warner as a highly knowledgeable if occasionally doctrinaire (witness the scorn he heaps upon table-mounted plunge routers!) router maven. Oftentimes such a personality wears thin over the course of a long book; not so with Warner. Having bought the book to learn about a specific jig I had heard about, I found myself reading page after page with attention and growing excitement. My routing (a daily activity in my woodworking business) is going to change for the better thanks to Warner. I'll be building several if not all of the jigs in the book within the next few weeks. I am convinced that, 10 years into my life as a router user, Warner's approach is going to make my work faster, more accurate, and even more enjoyable.
Warner's approach is open-eyed and creative. Several of the jigs bring the router to the work in directions (and tool-path-shapes if I may be forgiven a gaucherie) that appear bizarre to someone used to the standard manufactured jigs. Bits in unusual shapes and sizes abound in this book, too. Warner's prose is also occasional eye-openingly unfamiliar, but almost always in a satisfying way. This man has obviously thought long and hard not just about routing, but about how to describe it precisely and without a lot of the hackneyed jargon that often conceals a writer's limited mastery of the subject. I kept coming upon concepts like "handedness" and being reminded of Russian Formalism's "defamiliarization" or "enstrangement."
I must share a few cavils about the book. Two of them are about perspective. Every page of the book is full of close-up photos and clear diagrams. However, there is a frustrating lack of wider-angle views. "Okay," I found myself thinking time and again, "Here is a great shot of how this template, this router bit, and the workpiece come together. But how does the whole assembly get held to the bench? Where does the man stand as he moves through the work? And how tall is his workbench?" Leaving aside even such practical matters, it would be nice to see what Warner's shop looks like. A similar claustrophobic feeling permeates the text. Warner seems in such a rush to get us into cutting the joints that we lack a sense of the whole scenario-we don't know what router (or routers), or bits, or jigs we'll be using until they appear without introduction in the process narration. As a matter of fact construction of the key jigs is discussed after their use is described-as if by afterthought....
For a simple, even low-tech approach to router jointmaking, I recommend Gary Rogowski's Router Joinery. For those ready to make the step to a more sophisticated and involved, but safer and more accurate approach to the router, this book is a great introduction, and I say again, I am sure that my approach to routing will change for the better thanks to this book.
Well written, contains many great router techniques........1999-11-05
Nuances of router operation, router bits, and router use are described which provide important insight that any woodworker needs when using the router. It is the best of several books on routing that I have found. Several jigs for joinery are described that really work well. These jigs and an offset router base have increased my router use and work quality. I recommend this book to everyone, even if you are experienced with the router.
