Book Description
From Michael Cunningham, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Hours, comes this widely praised novel of two boyhood friends: Jonathan, lonely, introspective, and unsure of himself; and Bobby, hip, dark, and inarticulate. In New York after college, Bobby moves in with Jonathan and his roommate, Clare, a veteran of the city's erotic wars. Bobby and Clare fall in love, scuttling the plans of Jonathan, who is gay, to father Clare's child. Then, when Clare and Bobby have a baby, the three move to a small house upstate to raise "their" child together and, with an odd friend, Alice, create a new kind of family. A Home at the End of the World masterfully depicts the charged, fragile relationships of urban life today.

Strong, Lyrical. Commanding........2007-03-20
This writing is so strong, lyrical and commanding, that I am almost able to forget how much I dislike the story. Two boyhood friends fall in love without their parents' knowledge, which leads to a series of events that highlight each characters' insecurity with their life in this world. What exactly is the purpose? Will I ever "know" people and feel at home? Who am I supposed to love?

Enjoyable but slightly disappointing.......2006-12-07
I was looking forward to reading "A Home at the End of the World" after reading all the praise it received here. I wish I could say it affected me as much it did most everyone else but I was a little bit disappointed by the end.
The book spans about twenty five years and is divided into three parts: Bobby and Jonathan's boyhood years, life in New York City living with ex-hippie Clare, and the trio's life raising a baby in the country. The book isn't necessarily plot-driven as it is a character study of Bobby, Jonathan, Clare and Alice (Jon's mother), which isn't a bad thing at all if I felt more connected to them. The writing is solid and flows well but I just did not feel connected to the characters. It's not that they aren't sympathetic, it's that I didn't really understand why they think and do what they think and do. The characters spend the entire book thinking. By the end I kind of felt that the characters' introspection was a guise for being well developed.
The first half of the book was more interesting with the boys growing up. Looking back after reading the entire book however, it's hard to reconcile the older versions of Bobby and Jonathan from the younger versions. The most powerful moment of the book for me was early on when Bobby saves Jonathan from almost getting himself killed. This moment doesn't carry as much of an impact on the characters as one of the spotlight reviewers says though, and as much as I'd wish. The first third of the book was a joy to read. It was easy to understand Alice's point of view of being in a repressed marriage and deal with having to raise a troubled son. It was easier to identify with everyone's lack of identity. As the story progressed though, their lack of knowing what they wanted began to annoy. Over the course of the book, the characters certainly changed but I couldn't see how they changed. I couldn't see why one person was in love with the other and vice versa. I simply accepted it because the author said so.
The story is not melodramatic which is great, but it unfortunately has the opposite affect of being almost detached. I wouldn't read the book if I were looking for a tremendous bond between the boyhood friends, Bobby and Jonathan. Though Jonathan is gay, a fact that isn't explored much at all beyond the fact that he is, don't expect an "us against the world" theme popular with coming of age stories or classify the book as gay literature.
I wanted to love this book. I wanted to laugh and cry and become engrossed and think about the characters for days afterward. Actually, I was truly captivated in the first hundred pages or so that I was surprised at how fast the pages were flying by but I never did reach that high again. That's why I was disappointed. I think it's sort of amazing how I can spend 350 pages with some characters and still not know that much about them. Maybe the book could be longer.
I would recommend this for a fast and overall pleasant read but I don't think exactly it's worth the ten bucks you'd have to spend. Consider borrowing it.
Cunnimgham at his best.......2006-11-06
I found it very hard not to read the novel in one single day, it is warm and full of uplifting and intricate feelings.
Sometimes the movie is better..........2006-10-07
I rented the film version of "A Home at the End of the World" shortly after catching the "The Hours" on cable. I was pretty impressed with both. My guess was that "The Hours" had the kind of budget and richness to capture the book, whereas "A Home..." was a small independent film that had more handicaps. I figured the book on which it was based would be a better introduction to Cunningham, because it had a better shot at being stronger than the film. Well, sometimes the film is better....
The film really centers on Bobby and Jonathan. The book includes all of the main characters as narrators and has an overlapping narrative structure. Because of this, the book fleshes out the female characters better and we see why Jonathan's mother was cast with Cissy Spacek rather than someone who seemed Midwestern and why Jonathan's father was so remote. Bobby's character has more sides, although the result is that he is less vivid than Colin Ferrell's portrayal. The three-dimensionality in the book is probably more realistic, but the film version of Bobby captures better that which is important--his odd mix of emotional distance, engagement, adaptability and ambiability. Beyond his sexual orientation, Jonathan doesn't emerge very strongly in either medium.
The book oddly does worse in setting the time and place than the film. I grew-up in the Cleveland of the 60s and 70s and made many trips to New York in the 80s. Neither place fares well in the book. Cleveland was in approaching its nadir--an unhip place beginning a long economic decline, yet also a place with vibrant music scene (that attracted many future "names" for their early tours), racial tension, and the residue of various European ethnic cultures and rivalries---in other words, it had atmosphere and it was a good launching pad to go someplace more "hip". The book protrays a generic place that is more like the inland, second or third string cities of the Midwest--places like Columbus or Fort Wayne that are big on Babbitry and bragging about their chain restaurants. New York also seems oddly unlike itself. The New York of the book's era was filled with menace--crime, fear of crime, grafitti-filled subways, filth, and a general sense of dysfunction, as well as the kind of energy, vitality, and avant garde spirit that have always drawn people to the City. The book could have taken place in the tiny bohemian quarter of Atlanta or some other provincial backwater, for all it matters. The gay world of the book's time also is lacking--it takes place at beginning of the age of AIDS and the end of libertine gay liberation. Yet, talk of AIDS is muted beyond the early denial of its presence and Jonathan has to be most sexless gay man in queer lit. Popular music plays a big role in the book, but Cunningham seems to have drawn a random selection from hits lists of the 70s, rather than combinations of music that fit in time or that would have appealed to a common audience. Although Cunningham grew-up in this era, he clearly participated rather little in the popular culture of it.
The story proceeds like the movie, with the addition of Erich, Jonathan's bartender "boyfriend" (the relationship is undefined and mysterious to both of them). Toward the end of the book, Erich seems to be more of a plot device than a real person. The other characters take care of him as he convalesces, but with an odd lack of commitment.
Few films or books are made about menage a trois relationships and fewer films ask us to buy Collin Ferrell as a twentysomething virgin. Yet, the book came off as something far less than the film. The odd semi-sexual bond between Bobby and Jonathan was believable in the film but not in the book. Cissy Spacek took a truncated script and a thankless role in the film and communicated more about the mother's story than what we get in the book, despite the greater backstory. The film does better without Erich and without the coyness about Jonathan's HIV status. I wish I could have given the book as many stars as most of the other reviews, but by the time I finished, I just was glad that the story had ended.
Astonishing.......2006-09-21
I am an author and journalist and I have to say this is the best novel I have ever read. True to the word "haunting."

Customer Reviews:
Another Hauntingly Humorous Romance by Ms. Kurland.......2007-09-18
Victoria McKinnon is more than a little suspicious when her pain-in-the-neck brother Thomas offers Thorpewold Castle for her upcoming performance of Hamlet. Who could turn down the chance to direct Shakespeare in a honest to goodness English castle? Of course if you've read "Three Wise Ghosts" (little sister Megan's novella) or MY HEART STOOD STILL (Thomas' own story) then you are in on the joke. If not then you'll just have to find out along with Victoria.
Following Thomas McKinnon's return to America with his new bride Iolanthe, Connor MacDougal has assumed control of the castle as its laird. He is not unfamiliar with the responsibility, having been the laird of his own keep before his untimely murder in medieval Scotland. He is in the process of interviewing a motley crew of shades for the position of his Captain of the Guard when he is brought the news that yet another pesky MacKinnon is on the way to plague him. Connor hates all McKinnons and is determined to send this V. MacKinnon packing with "his" tail tucked between "his" legs at the first opportunity.
What he hadn't expected was that V. MacKinnon was a beautiful and spirited woman. She's a canny one as well. Taking the presence of ghosts both at the Inn and at the castle in stride, she exacts a promise from Connor not to haunt her cast during their stay by promising him a part in her play. Connor like many born in his own time had never learned to read, and finds himself at the mercy of the Boar's Head Trio, the most devious group of matchmaking ghosts you'll ever come up against.
Victoria, who is otherwise savvy, is blinded by her leading man who is vain and self-serving and completely oblivious to her interest in him. Connor soon finds himself loathing the man. Although he has promised to behave himself around her cast and crew the other ghosts have promised no such thing and when one of Victoria's erstwhile relatives "several generations removed" frightens away her costume man, her Grandmother throws herself into the breach.
It is Grandma who actually sets things in motion inadvertently by disappearing during a picnic. Victoria's leading man turns up missing shortly afterward. Brother Thomas contacts Jamie MacLeod, who has appeared in numerous Kurland offerings as well as his own story (A DANCE THROUGH TIME), and is an expert on "mysterious disappearances" (i.e. time travel gates). With Jamie's aid, the MacKinnon's learn exactly where the two have gone and Victoria becomes determined to retrieve them. Mere moments after she arrives in the past, she begins to understand the perils of time travel. By the time she returns Victoria is completely disillusioned with her leading man, but she suspects she might be harboring strong feelings for yet another man she can never have. It's an impossible situation, or is it?
Lynn Kurland is a consummate storyteller. With an incorporeal hero, she must rely on sexual tension alone to fuel the romance and she succeeds in doing so beautifully and with a great deal of humor. Much Ado in the Moonlight will keep the reader on the edge of their seat unable to put the book down until the very last word.
Younger sister Jennifer is introduced in this story as an active participant in Victoria's adventures. She is single, and had been an extremely talented actress and musician. For a reason no one else is aware of, Jennifer had suddenly dropped these pursuits to assist her mother with her baby clothes business. Something is definitely awry, and knowing that the Boar's Head Trio are not about to leave any of their young descendants alone and unhappy, I have a feeling there will be a romance in store for her in the near future. Since Jennifer is not in the dark about the existence of her matchmaking ghostly relations as her siblings had been, I am waiting with breathless anticipation to see how Ms. Kurland handles that story.

Bad Plot Rehash.......2007-04-26
I was sorely disappointed in this book. I am a long time fan of Kurland's books, but this one was very boring for me. It felt a lot like she just rehashed the plot from one of her prior ghost stories and just changed the names and added a few extra bits to make it different. It did not have the feeling of an original work at all.... If you are just starting out reading Kurland's work, I'd suggest start with one of the earlier books instead of this one, as it isn't a very good example of her work.
Lynn Kurland is one of the best!.......2006-12-20
I must say that "Much Ado In the Moonlight" has been added to my Favorite Books list. As an English Lit major I enjoyed the Shakespeare tie-in. I highly recommend all of Lynn Kurland's books, of which I have read and own most of them. She is one of the best of the best.
Lots of Humor, Good Read.......2006-08-12
I am a huge Kurland fan. Although her last few books didn't quite hit their mark with me.
This one, however, seemed more in line with her older work. It was an entertaining tale. The characters were interesting. I enjoyed the humor in the story. The book was pretty long, maybe a bit longer than need be, but worth reading.
I recommend this book. Because Kurland is following along with characters from previous stories, I would recommend you read her books in order. Its more enjoyable to understand the characters that are reintroduced.
Hilarious and engrossing read.......2006-08-10
Victoria McKinnon's love life was doomed from the start. She is a twenty something stage director who has her eye set on one of her handsome leading actors. Now if only he'll look at her as a woman and not as merely a director, her life would be complete. But, unknown to her, there are three ghostly characters, two of them are her grandfathers many generations removed, who are in the business of matchmaking and they believe that they have the perfect man for her. Of course, the only problem is that Connor is a ghost.
Victoria is a strong woman, independent, opinionated and runs her production company like a drill sergeant. The matchmaking trio thought she would be just perfect for Connor, never mind Connor's corporeal issues.
Connor was laird of his clan many hundreds of years in the past. He married a woman from a rival clan in order to establish peace. But she ran off with a French minstrel, who ended up killing her, her two babies, and then lured Connor into a trap and murdered him as well. Since then, Connor has haunted several castles as a ghost, consumed by bitterness and hate over his murder.
Victoria's brother, Thomas, has agreed to financially back her production of Hamlet and also offered loan of his castle in Scotland as a makeshift theater for her play. Victoria was elated but a bit suspicious of his motives. Unknown to Victoria, Thomas does have an ulterior motive for his offer. Thomas never got along with the bad-tempered Connor and decided the perfect revenge would be to foist his equally crabby sister on him. In fact, he was almost his glee over it. If anyone could stand up to Connor, it would be Victoria.
When Connor and Victoria first meet, Connor is on the verge of a swordfight with one of her ghostly grandfathers. She intervenes, they yell a bit, and then to his astonishment, she makes him a deal: Leave her crew alone and after the play is over, he can haunt her for a number of days, plus she'll offer him a place in her play. And to further confound him, she tells him he's handsome. He sputters, grudgingly agrees to her offer and stalks off.
They grow on each other, have adventures together and find themselves in love. How they solve Connor's ghostly status I won't tell but it is very heart wrenching and very scary for Victoria. Needless to say, the ghostly trio was very pleased with the match.
Definitely a raucous read. I don't think I've had so much fun reading a book. The tale is simply hilarious. The ghostly characters are so eccentric, devious, and full of life. I just couldn't put it down.

crude, violent, goofy & weirdly fascinating.......2005-04-15
from the back of the book:
"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles caused a black-and-white explosion with its arrival in 1984. Admirers and fans have made it the largest selling black-and-white comic of the decade-- the first issue has been reprinted four times. TMNT has been largely responsible for an unprecedented growth in the comics industry and the blueprint for numerous imitators.
First Comics now presents the original three issue origin in one full-color graphic novel. This deluxe collector's edition also includes two never before published stories by creators Kevin Eastman ['Night Life'] and Peter Laird ['New Comic Day!']."
In addition to this, there's an introduction by sci-fi/fantasy/horror commentator Stanley Wiater, three Eastman & Laird pin-ups (including a very prototypical-looking one from 1983), bios of the artists, and a trippy full-color ad for an NES game called Phantom Fighter.
TMNT First Graphic Novel.......2003-01-22
This is a collection of issues #1 to #3 of the original Ninja Turtles comic book series compiled in graphic novel format. It's illustrated in full color and it also includes two never before published stories by Eastman and Laird. It makes a great collectible and it's also a good read for fans. Altough a bit childish the artwork is beautiful. It's a great buy !!

Recipe for having fun with the kids.......1999-11-23
This book is for younger kids who are learning to read, but probably already like the Turtles. Older Turtle fans will also like it as well. There are around 4 to 5 lines of words on each page at the most & all the sentences are simple. I have to keep reminding myself that it's for younger kids, because it just seems funny thinking of the Turtles talking in such a "basic" English. Here's a little warning to parents: there's a recipe for English muffin pizzas in the back, & you will want to supervise your children if they want to do this. But I know you don't want very young ones doing cooking experiments alone. It also shows a big mess of pizza sauce, but don't let kids use "But the Turtles got messy," as an excuse to get their clothes dirty or not clean their rooms. Other than that, I think this is a good book to read to little ones on a rainy day, & then do the recipe at the end with them, & then chow down! Kids should really like that.

"Must" Reading for Anyone who Works with kids...........2001-08-08
This book is "must" reading for anyone who has children or who is working with children. Written in a clear, concise style, the book is an easy reference to determining IF you are seeing child abuse symptoms, and HOW to deal with the situation if child abuse is present. Written by an M.D., the author is well qualified to show examples of "abuse" wounds versus regular scrapes and bruises a child would suffer. There are excellent drawings to illustrate those areas of the body which would show physical or sexual abuse. Not only is this an excellent reference for detecting abuse, this book gives the reader good advice on how to deal with the situation, who to contact, how to verify what you are suspecting, etc. I found this book to be the best reference document yet on understanding this most sensitive subject.

Awesome Recipes, but..........2006-12-06
I have to say it to warn the vegetarians - this book is not vegetarian. It is meatless, I'll give it that, but it calls for omnivorous cheeses, and this is by the own author's admission, where she describes one of the cheeses as being from the rennet/lining of a baby lamb's stomach.
For an omnivore, this book is great. For lacto-ovo vegetarians and vegans, who know which vegetarian products to use and automatically know when a recipe calls for an omnivorous item what they can whip up, it is a gem as well.
Just a warning to people who are vegetarian and don't have access to rennet-free cheeses or vegan cheeses.
Edited to add: This book also has meat stocks in it, recipes calling for veal carcasses and such. I want to grab a marker and black-out the deathly words.
Vegetarianism Made Easy (and Delicious!).......2005-01-13
This book proves that you need not sacrifice flavor, texture, nor variety, nor inconvenience yourself in the kitchen, to give up meat. Some of the recipies may be difficult for culinary novices such as myself, but like most other things, once you pick up the fundamentals, the rest comes much easier. There are also some very simple and delicious recipies included. Highly recommended for those who are considering giving up meat yet think that they would miss it too much. I bet you won't even notice it's gone!
very cool book.......2002-08-11
We like to eat pasta and have really come to like the whole wheat and other pastas that are actually good for you. This book has been a great resource for us. The recipes are really really good, easy to prepare and have opened my eyes to much more than just the basic tomato sauce. There are recipes for bean and pasta soups, all sorts of pastas with different vegetables, a variety of pasta salads, and more. Really inspirational
Knock your socks off dishes! Mouth watering every time........1999-11-11
This is the one cookbook I go back to over and over. Every single recipe I have tried has been absolutely delicious. Well worth reading the front section on selecting pastas, cheeses and olive oils. My favorites are: Pasta Primavera, Spaghetti with Pumpkin(which I have prepared and served at least 20 times this year), Roasted zucchini half moons with bow tie pasta, & the lasagnas. I am now purchasing additional books as gifts to my friends. You do not have to be vegetarian to love these dishes.
A wealth of excellent recipes.......1998-05-23
In depth information about ingredients allow you to choose the very best for each recipe; preparations are simple but sophisticated with many innovative vegetable/cheese compositions resulting in great dishes with distinct flavour!

Pretty pics, not much else.......2007-09-04
The book is lovely, but it could've been so much better if it had more desciptions of what you're looking at. Instead, it's full of little phrases that may be helpful, but they are also somewhat pithy. I wish I had purchased a couple of magazine subscriptions instead.
Informative and Inspirational.......2006-07-28
I love looking at House Beautiful books. I find the pictures to be inspirational. However, I usually don't think the text is very informative. I was pleasantly surprised to find House Beautiful 750 Designer Secrets to be an exception to the rule. It does contain beautiful photographs, but the "secrets" are useful and/or inspirational comments by designers. I have to admit I don't recognize the names of most of them, but I find the information to be consistent with other interior design/decoration books I have read. The quotes may not always be particulary earthshattering, but there were enough good ones to justify giving House Beautiful 750 Designer Secrets a 5. Out of 750 quotes you are bound to find something that is useful to you!
Now, just to give you a clear picture of what the book does and does not have to offer: no where is there a set of explicit instructions for how to incoporate the comments dirtectly to your home, but that is not the intention of the book. It is suppose to make you think for yourself how to add your own sense of style to your house. The book is set up so that there is a picture or two on a page and quotes by several different designers. The pictures illustrate the comments. I choose the following quotes because I thought that they are good advice and/or they made me rethink how I decorate my rooms.
"The most important thing is what you feel when you walk into a room." Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz
"Not interfering with views is decorating 101." Scott Salvator
"You don't need a lot of elements to create a dynamic effect." Jeffrey Marks
"Anchor a large room with a sense of symmetry." (quote from the author).
"I edit rigourously for scale, form, and color." Celeste Cooper
"Incorporate a common thread-such as a neutral color-to unify electric furnishings." Kelly Harmon
The one drawback to the book for some people might be that the pictures portray a similar style of decoration. If you like a mix of modern and antique, you will probably like the book, but those who like other styles, may or may not enjoy the pictures in the book. However, I think that the information given by the designers applies to any style.

The Crunching Munching Caterpillar (Tiger Tales).......2007-04-12
The book is fun to read with kids. It shows the development of the catterpillar through to the butterfly stage but makes it into a fun story.
Munch Your Way Through This Awesome Book.......2007-03-20
What book tells you the life of a caterpillar? The Crunching Munching Caterpillar does. Sheridan Cain, the author, did a very great job writing this book. And Jack Tickle, the illustrator, did an awesome job making those pictures. It looks like Jack painted those beautiful pictures. It's a great book.
This book is for 3rd graders. But, I think it should be for lower grades too. You can even read it to a younger sibling. Also, even if you can't read, the pictures tell the story all by itself. It can even be a cartoon!
Some of the characters in the story are Sparrow, Bumblebee, and Butterfly. As you know they all have wings. But, Caterpillar doesn't. Sparrow and Bumblebee tell him that he can't fly because he's too big. But then one day something happens to him after his long winter sleep.
The setting is in a blackberry bush. It's supplied with many delicious leaves. Caterpillar crunches and munches his way through the bush. That's why it's called The Crunching Munching Caterpillar. There are also many blackberries in the bush too.
I recommend this book for young children. I even liked it too, and I'm in 4th grade! It has wonderful illustrations. It's easy to read so younger kids can read it also. You don't even have to read it you can just look at the pictures instead. It's one of the best books ever for younger children.
Book Description
In Butterflies: Ecology and Evolution Taking Flight, the world's leading experts synthesize current knowledge of butterflies to show how the study of these fascinating creatures as model systems can lead to deeper understanding of ecological and evolutionary patterns and processes in general. The twenty-six chapters are organized into broad functional areas, covering the uses of butterflies in the study of behavior, ecology, genetics and evolution, systematics, and conservation biology. Especially in the context of the current biodiversity crisis, this book shows how results found with butterflies can help us understand large, rapid changes in the world we share with them—for example, geographic distributions of some butterflies have begun to shift in response to global warming, giving early evidence of climate change that scientists, politicians, and citizens alike should heed.
The first international synthesis of butterfly biology in two decades, Butterflies: Ecology and Evolution Taking Flight offers students, scientists, and amateur naturalists a concise overview of the latest developments in the field. Furthermore, it articulates an exciting new perspective of the whole group of approximately 15,000 species of butterflies as a comprehensive model system for all the sciences concerned with biodiversity and its preservation.

Book Description
Here is an exquisitely beautiful homage to the colorful celebrity of the insect world, the butterfly. With more than 300 photographs of real butterflies presented in a unique accordion-fold format, Butterflies in Flight is a strikingly attractive gift book that will appeal to anyone who appreciates art and nature.
Hundreds of butterflies soar and drift across the page. Each panel of this traditional Japanese format stands on its own visually, yet is also designed to lead to the next panel so that the flight itself appears to glide, panel after panel, before the viewer. The accordion format, which unfolds to more than seventy feet, allows the book to be set upright and displayed as a delightful art object.
Roger Camp has used modern techniques of photography and digital imaging brilliantly to create an irresistible flight of real butterflies. He was inspired by Kanzaka Sekka's 1904 woodblock-printed book, One Thousand Kinds of Butterflies, to find a contemporary way of marrying beauty with technology, thus creating a magical presentation of these infinitely graceful creatures.
Over 300 images of more than 250 species of butterflies. A separate "Guide to the Butterflies" identifies by name and habitat every butterfly depicted. Slipcase and real cloth binding. Over 300 color illustrations; 104 pages, accordion format.

I have gifted this book repeatedly. All who have received it are inspired by its sheer beauty. Captivated by its presentation. Quite simply - a treasure to own.
Butterflies in Flight.......2002-11-19
The book "Butterflies in Flight" by Roger Camp is such a visceral experience. It is so striking, intuitive and emotional. It just grabs you and takes you on a visual and sensitive but demonstrative trip through an explosion of color that transforms it into a butterfly sanctuary. Wow! What a great book for everyone affected by Sept. 11. The book takes you to ethereal places far from hate and anxiety.
Flight and Color as Rhythm.......2002-10-23
The joy that Camp brings to this accordian format tickles my senses and transports me to long-ago childhood gardens. Colors dazzle, while shapes and markings mystify me. He offers a wondrous world, indeed. I deeply appreciate the hours and patience Camp devoted to this digital project - that we might take off on our own flights of fancy. This is a marvelous gift for the holiday season. It should have a vast appeal to naturalists and photographers, both the young and the adult.
Art and the Butterfly.......2002-10-02
If you love art as much as you love butterflies, you'll find this book is an amazing combination of the two. The layout and design makes it all the more unique. If you have a butterfly lover in your family, you MUST add this to their holiday gifts.

Butterflies Fly.......2004-10-26
This is a poetic children's book that includes miraculous images of fifteen different butterfly species found throughout the world. Each page within this book contains an amazingly detailed poetic verse and displays a different beautifully illustrated butterfly. The author and illustrator were able to bring these fragile creatures to life through the brilliant use of words and realistic art. The last two pages contain a butterfly identification guide corresponding with each illustrated butterfly. Within this guide, each of the fifteen butterflies is identified by common name, scientific name, wingspan, a brief explanation of its habitat, and a description of the butterfly's history and life cycle. This book would provide a rich source of information in an elementary science class when studying different butterfly species. When the class is completing a lesson on butterflies and their life cycles, the teacher could take time to incorporate reading and science together by using this book. Also, the class could use some of the illustrations in the book to see how some butterflies use camouflage against predators. The text and art within this book will give each reader a detailed picture of the butterfly in its natural habitat.

Breathtaking simplicity.......2006-05-06
There is nothing so ordinary as a butterfly, but then again, nothing so beautiful! These Japanese paintings are so simple that I know I could reproduce them on my walls at home, and yet the pages are spellbinding. The butterflies swirl and soar as though caught on the very air and not a finished page. I LOVE this book!

Tammy's Daughter's.......2006-09-14
I enjoyed most of this book. It was very informative. I didn't care for the part where she went over the same things that her mom did in her autobiography. They could of left that out and told it more from their perspective. I felt bad for the girls because of George Richey being greedy. Money parts friends and he must of decided to keep it all. I don't think he liked her daughters. I am glad they did uncover the cause of her death and they must of got a wrongful death settlement which is good. I know how it is to have your mother leave due to medical errors. I related to these girls. I understand how it is to have your dad remarry so quick after your mother's death. I think men don't like to be alone and they are looking for someone else to fill that void.
IMPOSSIBLE TO PUT DOWN.......2005-08-04
Wynette's death will always be shrouded in mystery. She was gone long before she should have been (a lot of it brought on by herself but most of it brought on by her dependence on others who thought they knew best, namely George Richey (the fortune hunter who used Tammy's name for exploitation and furthering his own selfish purposes. And her doctor who kept filling her up with "drugs" until her body shut down because she couldn't take any more!) Jackie Daly takes us through the painful memories of the sad day of her mother's death, shrouded in mystery (WHY DID THEY WAIT SO LONG TO CALL THE CORONERS TO PICK UP THE BODY??? WHY DID THIS PARTICULAR DOCTOR HAVE TO FLY IN FROM WEST VIRGINIA OR PENNSYLVANIA OR NEW JERSEY OR WHEREVER HE WAS FROM TO CONFIRM THE DEATH??? WHY DID GEORGE RICHEY, NOT LONG AFTER TAMMY DIED BEGIN DATING A DALLAS COWBOY CHEERLEADER?) I give props to Tammy's daughters for standing up for the truth. The only people here who gave one star reviews were probably George Richey advocates who knew his agenda long before Tammy's daughters did. And it was clear..he did have an agenda. We certainly did not need this book to tell us that.
THIS IS THE TRUTH!!.......2004-07-10
Believe it or not, what Jackie Daly wrote is nothing but the truth. George Richey did not love her mother the way he claims he did. Tammy's daughters are her blood. George Richey was the 5th in a long line of husbands who was only a stepfather to the girls if he was even that. God Bless Tammy and her daughters.
Sad Telling But People Don't Want to Know the Truth.......2004-07-06
I have always been a Tammy Wynette fan. Three months after Tammy's passing George RIchey marries a "Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader"? So much for the grieving widower. Tammy's death was shrouded in mystery and no one will ever know for certain what happened. But even Loretta Lynn states in her new autobiography "Still Woman Enough" that she thinks its sad that Tammy never found true love in real life. Tammy was fragile, vulnerable and naive. Its obvious she let George Richey use her and milk her until she could take no more. I do not blame her daughters for wanting to know the truth. The sad thing is that people don't want to know the truth or the truth to be told. If my mother had died under such circumstances I would want to know the truth too. This book is a must read...Jackie truly cuts to the chase and George RIchey should be ashamed to show his face anywhere. Its obvious he never loved Tammy the way he said he did.
i think its great. get off her back!.......2002-10-30
