Great!.......2007-05-07
I'm a huge Lori Foster fan - loved it! Sam and Ariel's story is still my fave.
Another Excellent Bad Boys Anthology.......2006-07-25
Anthologies are a great way to 'sample' an author and see if you like their writing style without buying a full length book. If you liked the other 'bad boy' anthologies, you won't be disappointed with this one. Foster, McCarthy and Leigh's contemporary shorts are very entertaining and full of steamy love scenes. A great way to spend a lazy afternoon.
For anyone interested in Foster's story of Pete Watson, his brother's Gil Watson is in the Bad Boys To Go book and his other brother Sam Watson is in the Bad Boys on Board book.
Not great..........2004-11-25
I'll start by confessing that I AM NOT a Lori Foster fan, and I always think hers are the weakest stories in the Bad Boys anthologies. This book was no different. The sad thing about Foster is that her short stories are actually better than her full novels. I also thought Morgan Leigh's "Last Call" was incredibly stupid, with an awful plot and boring characters. Erin McCarthy was the best of the lot. No, it was not great literature, but at least her characters were compelling. Bottom line: I'm glad I checked this one out at the library.
Bad Boys .......2004-08-18
I loved this anthology, Lori Foster, Erin McCarthy and Morgan Leigh wrote fun, sexy novellas that are the perfect thing to read by the pool.
In GOOD WITH HIS HANDS by Lori Foster, Pete gets back what he has dished out to his brothers. He is good friends with his next door neighbor Cassidy McClannahan, but things get steamy quick, when he finally realizes the woman he has been looking for is right next door. Ms Foster is the author that started me on reading anthologies in the first place, and GOOD WITH HIS HANDS is a good example as to why.
In MISS EXTREME CONGENIALITY by Erin McCarthy, CJ White and Wyatt Maddock fight like cats and dogs all the time. CJ even goes so far as to put in for a transfer but before she goes
Wyatt proposes spending one night together to get each other out of their systems. Will one night be enough?
I loved the sparks that flew between CJ and Wyatt in SMART MOUTH and I was so happy to see them get their own story. CJ's son is also a adorable and so is her mom.
In Morgan Leigh's LAST CALL, Tess Braeden has just moved to Justice, North Carolina when she inherits an old farmhouse. But when she arrives she finds that her house is slated to be demolished to make way for a new firehouse. She has tried time and again to get an appointment with the mayor but he has ignored her requests. Tess gets the suprise of her life when she realizes that the hunky mechanic she just locked lips with is the mayor Fletcher Graham. LAST CALL was so much fun and I just fell in love with Coop the bartender. If there is any justice, Coop will have his own story soon.
Bad Boys Indeed!.......2004-07-11
Good With His Hands by fav Lori Foster was very enjoyable with believable characters who were fun and easy to like. The secondary characters were also interesting; the descriptions of Cassidy's parents are, I think, reminiscent of everyone's parents. This was a fun, easy read with sweet characters and a warmly satisfying ending. Miss Extreme Congeniality by Erin McCarthy offers a fun look at the lives of two FBI agents who secretly wanteach other. CJ White has an autistic son that her co-workers don't know about and an ex-husband who left them because of the handicap; she is wary of letting any man too close. Wyatt Maddock wanted all of CJ - her body, her love, and her son, to be a part of his life. Hot sex and tender dialogue bring these two characters together - a very pleasing read. Last Call by Morgan Leigh is a real steamer! Hot characters who knew what they wanted and weren't afraid to go for it, until a misunderstanding comes between them and threatens to keep them apart. Love does prevail in this charming story; I found myself wishing for more pages when I reached the end. These three very talented ladies have done it again with a very enjoyable anthology that was fun and easy to read. Kudos!
Product Description
Some men you can't take anywhere...except the bedroom. No matter how you dress them up, they'll always be a little bit rough around the edges, a little too hot for polite society, a little too naked in their aprreciation of a woman, and a little too declicious to share with anyone else anyway...
Product Description
The men who can't be tamed reveal their wicked ways in this contemporary erotic romance anthology. I Love Bad Boys explores the forbidden and passionate world of the bad boys who elicit unbridled desire--and the good girls who would do anything to have them.
Book Description
Hannah Ives is always ready to support others like herself who have been through the gauntlet of fear and uncertainty that a diagnosis of cancer often brings. So when friend and fellow survivor Dorothy Hart asks for help building sets for the Naval Academy's upcoming production of Sweeney Todd, Hannah readily agrees.
But it means associating with an old foe -- a vindictive officer whose accusations once nearly destroyed Hannah's home life. And when one corpse too many appears during a dress rehearsal of the dark and bloody musical, Hannah finds herself accused of murder -- and enmeshed in a web of treachery and deception that rivals the one that damned the "Demon Barber."
Caught up in a drama as sinister as any that has ever unfolded on stage, Hannah stands to lose everything unless she unmasks a killer before the final curtain falls ...

My old boss has done good!.......2007-05-07
Many years ago I worked for Marcia Talley, when she was the cataloging librarian at St. John's College, and I was a student aide. It's cool that she's achieved her writing ambition and so successfully, to boot.
I'm not that big a fan of mysteries as a rule, and, while this book was interesting, it didn't do much to change my mind. Hannah Ives is clearly a continuing character that we return to some time after she's recovered from having breast cancer. Now, she's helping with a musical stage production at the Naval Academy when a former enemy, who accused her husband of sexual harassment, returns and is murdered under circumstances that point the finger at Hannah. The resulting story focuses more on the human aspects of the situation: Hannah is humiliated and traumatized by her arrest and subsequent treatment, and resolves to get to the bottom of the mystery herself. Meanwhile, she's also trying to comfort Dorothy, a woman currently undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer, as well as working with her on the production.
Talley focuses strongly on the local color of Annapolis, perhaps a bit too strongly. It's not merely, "I drove to Annapolis Mall to buy a hat" but "I drove out West Street to Route 50, then got off at the first exit and parked at the garage next to Nordstrom's". For someone who knows all this already, it's a little over-the-top.
That being said, the book is well-written, and the characters have depth and believability. You done good, Mrs. Talley!
Vivid Descriptions, Fast Paced Action, A Great Read!.......2005-09-11
This Enemy Town is a wonderfully, and tightly constructed mystery. The story begins with Hannah Ives being arrested and accused of murder! Someone has murdered the woman that had falsely accused Hannah`s husband Paul of sexual harassment a few years earlier. Hannah, a five year breast cancer survivor, and my favorite amateur sleuth has to solve this murder to save herself. The action of the story centers around a Naval Academy production of Sweeney Todd and the mystery has as many possible murders with motives as the Demon Barber has victims of a close shave. The story is loaded with authentic local flavor; you know the author has an intimate knowledge of Annapolis and its environs. Vivid descriptions, meticulous detail, and fast paced action fill Marcia Talley's latest Hannah Ives mystery which will keep you guessing until the very end.
Another winner from Marcia Talley.......2005-09-07
I've read every one of Marcia Talley's mysteries featuring Annapolis-based amateur sleuth Hannah Ives, and this is the best one yet! Hannah is a survivor - a breast cancer survivor - and those survival instincts serve her well in THIS ENEMY TOWN. Hannah not only has to solve a murder but also finds herself the prime suspect. Always comfortable conveying the charm of her Annapolis setting, Talley takes us literally backstage at a Naval Academy production of Sweeney Todd, where Hannah is building sets and real-life murder trumps the on-stage drama. Fans of her series will find the feisty Hannah in rare form. From rarely seen nooks and crannies of the Academy to the inner sanctum of the Pentagon, Talley unfolds a complex and satisfying plot. Enjoy the read!
Another great read!.......2005-09-07
Marcia Talley has done it again. Hannah Ives has returned to face yet another adventure that fans of Ms. Talley will enjoy. If you haven't yet read a Hannah Ives mystery, I encourage you to start. It's all here, intrigue, betrayal and murder set on the grounds of the U.S. Naval Academy during a production of Sweeney Todd. Honestly, yummy.
Her best yet.......2005-09-06
I've read all of the Hannah Ives mysteries by Marcia Talley and this is the best one yet. In particular the character development was magnificant. I felt as if Talley was sharing more about Hannah through her words and thoughts and action than ever before. As always, Hannah's relationships with friends and family are front and center, as is the U.S. Naval Academy, but there are new interesting twists like subplots about the dilemma of gays in the military and about a false sexual harassment claim against Hannah's husband. I have been an avid reader of mysteries by female authors with female sleuths for 16 years and am a book reviewer for Washington Woman magazine. For me, Talley is a great local find, for all readers, a great find. (reviewer Karen Kullgren)

Customer Reviews:
Dragon Winter is better... But,.......2006-07-19
I bought all four books in this series when I was probably 11 years old. I remember trying to read Grayfax Grimwald at the time and being very frustrated with not understanding it. The books sat on my shelf for years but I never tired of looking at the cover art or dreaming about the stories that I'd probably grow up to be able to read some day.
... Years later I lost those books, but always remembered them and regretted losing them at a yard sale I hadn't been apart of. When I realized they were gone, I became determined to get them back into my life. Well, it took me 4 years of smashing my head into a wall to remember the name of the author, the title of the books, or any of the characters. I never did, dispite a handfull of sci-fi geeks at B&N and Borders - but fortunately, one day I saw a painting that I new had to have been by the same artist.
I did some back-track-investigation and eventually found and purchased every book Hancock wrote. I immediately started reading G.Grimwald again - and immediately remembered the frustration. I think the author's prose style just doesn't work for me. The writing in the first book of the Circle Of Light is very sloppy. Too many run-on sentences and Hancock's too-lofty style of describing things and digressing make it a very difficult read. ...for me. (At times, it feels like he was on some special "medicine" while writing.)
So, sadly, I put this book down - despite really loving the characters and the story. Now I'm reading Dragon Winter (also by Hancock) - which doesn't have any of the problems of grammer/structure that I found in G.Grimwald and the book/story/characters are all fantastic as well. In fact, he's prose is very smooth, compact, clear, and well timed in Dragon Winter.
But I'm determined to read every one of his books - and I do think that circle of light is worth getting. I haven't read a copy of the new, revised publishings. I'm not sure if any clean-up or changes were made -but if they were fixed-up, I'll buy the new versions as well and start all over again.
Last word: grammer/prose is tough to follow, but the story is really good. the first half of G.Grimwald is filled with a fantastic idealic life of the three heros in their little nook of the woods. Yes, similar to the Shire, but I actually discovered that wanted to live with Brocco, Otter and Bear just as much I would have wanted to live with Bilbo.
Ok, the army part where Otter and Bear transform into people is strange... and some of the names are so hard to say or read or pronounce... I would like to read a book with a Dark Lord Timmy for a change.
Apart from that, these are great books.
How bad can it be? I'll tell you!.......2005-06-26
I was amazed...but NOT because of wondrous creatures or magical places like Tolkien described. I laughed aloud...but not because these books shared the humor of Piers Anthony. I was stunned...but not because of any similarity to the vivid descriptive ability of Anne McCaffrey.
No, all these reactions were from reading the inane Circle of Light, a sloppy, un-believable, barely disguised excuse of a fantasy series (The unimaginative Arkenchest name, practically stolen from The Hobbit's Arkenstone, is just one example of this tacky, nearly criminally plagiaristic atrocity). I read this junk because it was so laughably stupid, and in this it was sickeningly entertaining. My sister and I spent hours joking about this horrific series.
As for my reactions:
I was amazed that this stuff was published.
I laughed aloud at the ludicrous plot and scenes (Elves and dwarves lobbing hand grenades and shooting rifles is just...weird...ok?)
I was stunned that it sold so well (this trilogy came out right after the explosion in popularity in Tolkien's books in the '80's - pure luck riding a wave of ravenous readers who couldn't get enough of fantasy stories)
I admit this review is rather harsh, and maybe some of you like these books, and that's fine by me. However, I think interested readers unfamiliar with this series would do better with other fantasy works.
Awesome book.......2004-02-11
Circle of Light #1: Greyfax Grimwald is an adventurous read. It is similar to the Lord of the Rings saga. It is the first of four books, and once you read the first, you have to read the other three books. It is a spectacular journey deserving of a 4 out of 5.
Reprinted at long last!.......2004-02-02
I originally bought the four books in this series back in the mid seventies, and am glad to be able to replace them now with new, much-less-tattered editions.
I highly recommend this series (and Hancock's other Atlanton Earth books) because of the twists he takes on the idea-starved, high fantasy tradition such as sometimes having animals as talking, leading characters, and mixing gun play in with the normal sword and sorcery action. Additionally, Hancock does what many fantasy authors have forgotten: creates a living, breathing world filled with rich characters that you actually care about! Enjoy this series...and hope they bring his other books back into print as well!
Deservedly out of print.......2002-11-11
This is a trite and tiresome novel which
in no way compares with the classics of
fantasy.

Great down to earth resource.......2002-03-19
The book is very organized and in depth. It is written and the diagrams are very helpful to look at. I thought the book has great merit to anyone who suffers from incontinence, interstitial cytstitis and prostate problem. I highly recommend this book to read before embarking on treatment and surgery.

He even intertwines humor, so rare in a informational medical book. His compassion, understanding, and extensive knowledge far surpassed my expectations. If you have even thought about buying this book, then do it. It will help.

Scrumptious Southern Recipes.......2002-08-07
Members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, a patriotic and hereditary organization, have submitted a variety of scrumptious handed down Southern family recipes compiled and edited by Lynda Moreau. A guaranteed taste of the Old South. Be sure to try the Tea Cakes.
The members have also included interesting anecdotes of their Confederate ancestors including photographs and illustrations as well as information about the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
Wonderful recipes, a book filled with taste and heritage.......2001-04-01
The Confederate Cookbook is the star of my cookbook collection. The recipes, family favorites of Sons of Confederate Veterans and their ancestors, are the best. Photos of those ancestors and chronicles of their service to the south make this a must have book, not only for cooks, but for anyone interested in preserving Southern heritage. I gave one as a gift and treasure my own copy.
Enhanced for the family cook with historic anecdotes.......2001-02-24
In The Confederate Cookbook: Family Favorites From The Sons Of Confederate Veterans, Lynda Moreau has gathered up 340 diverse and delicious recipes from contemporary Confederate kitchens that range throughout every region of country but evoke the flavor of the Old South as past down to the descendants of the Confederacy through the more than 27,000 member "The Sons of Confederate Veterans", an hereditary organization. From Lynchburg Layered Salad, Southern Meat Loaf, and Skillet Chicken and Gravy, to Great Granny's Confederate Sweet Potato Souffle, Copper Carrot Pennies, and Fried Apple Pies, The Confederate Cookbook is a grand compendium of highly recommended dishes which are further enhanced for the family cook with historic anecdotes and images of identified Confederate soldiers.
A Great Idea and Tribute to the men who fought for the south.......2000-09-20
I just got my copy and have not had time to try any of the recipes, but the text listed on each contributor is worth the price, along with the pictures of the veterans. The Sons of the Confederate Veterans and the publisher are to be commended for this work. It is time we all took a look back and honored our ancestors who fought for a cause they dearly believed in. To honor them and to preserve our heritage and history as it really happened. In the light of the attacks on their memory and the effort to destroy and/or change history as it really happened, this book should be in the library of every buff of the War of the Rebellion. I can't wait to dig into Great Granny's Confederate Sweet Potato Souffle.

Each piece reflects the falvor of the times--from the sober Arts and Crafts style of the '20s right through to the aerodynamic Modernist styles of the '50s. With beautiful photographs featuring hundreds of unique pieces, California Pottery: From Missions to Modernism is an exquisite gallery showcasing the beauty and originality of California pottery.

A Colorful look at California Pottery.......2001-09-07
This colorful and enjoyable book makes a strong case for the importance of California's commercial potteries in drawing on the state's unique cultural heritage to introduce dramatic new colors and styles to the United States. The book is easy to read and filled with interesting facts, with beautiful color photos on almost every page. I was fascinated by pictures of pottery from the 30's, side-by-side with the handmade folk pottery on which the designs werte based. This is a must for any serious pottery collector! Note that the book parallels an exhibition at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The author, Bill Stern, was the curator for that exhbition.

Very useful for ideas and techniques.......2005-05-17
This book is wonderful. Starting with some carpentry skills of my own, I was able to design and trim out my entire dining room with crown molding, chair rail, wall frames etc. This book was invaluable in helping me design and execute the project.
Yes, it is really a decorating book.......2005-04-30
Well, I should have known. The title "Decorating with..." tells it all. It is first and foremost a decorating book that the wife would love. This book has the best and sharpest color pictures of any decorating book and is very tastefully presented. But it is skimpy or just plain bad at helping you to DIY. There is little that is useful in technique and little that is useful for tackling the complexities of say installing crown moulding. But, I can't fault the author. After all, the title is "Decorating with...".
Pretty Pics, Spotty Advice.......2004-04-27
If you're interested in ideas for interior woodwork, this book offers some nice photos that may inspire a project ... and sometimes inspiration is just what's needed to get us out of the chair and actively working. However, if you're interested in executing the work that's shown, an inexperienced carpenter will be hard pressed to succeed based on the information here. No book can substitute for experience, and this book is great for dreamers, but there are better carpentry guides out there if you actually want to do the work.
A good reference book for basic trim carpentry skills.......2004-03-08
I just recently purchased this book to trim out my house with Crown, base and window trim and decorative caps between rooms.
while there are better boooks for pure trim carpentry skills, Jim Tolpin's book comes to mind, I find myself reaching for this book over Tolpin's as it has great color pictures, concise instructions, good organization, and most importantly, ideas.
When I was choosing how to make my base moldings, or build the decorative cap, I needed guidance on which moldings to choose, what size they should be proportionally, and how to build them. This is where this book becomes worth every penny--its descriptions and pictures, along with techniques for different styles such as neo classical, victorian and Arts and Crafts, with suggestions on how to put all the components together on walls, floors and ceilings.
Overall I highly recommend this book for anyone that's going to trim their house themselves.
Great Book and Even Better Ideas.......2004-02-13
This book will provide the Do-It-Yourself crowd with the knowledge necessary to tackle a trimwork project with confidence. With excellent organization, information and pictures, it is hard to imagine a better book for this purpose.
Even if you do not plan to do it yourself, the book will provide excellent pictures to help you select the type of trimwork you would like, and will serve as a starting point in a project discussion with a carpenter. The example pictures alone are worth the price of the book.

NICE BOOK OF COLORFUL HAWAIIAN ARTIFACTS AND PHOTOGRAPHS!.......2007-03-02
I didn't realize that Jim Heimann had published so many collector's books! The listings for his many books are here on Amazon, easily in the dozens. Obviously, he knows how to collect and organize graphics of all kinds and present them with style and with a minimum of text! The photos of various island locations, partially naked hula dancers, sailors, scans of matchbook covers and posters, menus and all sorts of authentic Hawaiiana are really great and colorful. As a designer, I find many color combinations from the '50's and 60's to be a genuine treasure for references and after reviewing this "little" book, it's well worth the modest price. Taschen is the publisher and is known for quality binding and printing. This book is no exception!
"Rock -A-Hula".......2005-09-29
This book has some great vintage pics in it. My only complaint is that some of these photos are racey and caution must be adheared before laying this book on the coffee table. It would of showed the hula customs even without all the bare-breasted shot that are very unsuitable for many folks ,young and old alike. Besides that this book captures a lot of old (pre WWII)shots that you arn't going to find elseware.
