Book Description

Alone. Francis Tucket now feels more confident that he can handle almost anything. A year ago, on the wagon train, he was kidnapped from his family by a Pawnee hunting party. Then he escaped with the help of the mountain man, Mr. Grimes. Now that he and Mr. Grimes have parted ways, Francis is heading west on his Indian pony, crossing the endless prairie, trying to find his family.

After a year with Mr. Grimes, Francis has learned to live by the harsh code of the wilderness. He can cause a stampede, survive his own mistakes, and face up to desperadoes. But when he rescues a little girl and her younger brother, Francis takes on more than he bargained for.

Call Me Francis Tucket
The book is about a small boy named Francis Tucket. Francis stays back a 100 yards to shoot his rifle. But then he gets kidnapped by Pawnne hunters and they take him back to their tribe. He gets rescued by a guy named Jason Grimes and Francis stays with him for a year. But then they parted ways and Francis was all lone again on the parie. He stumbled upon a heard of buffalo. He shoots a cow but the buffalo did not like the loud noise of the gun firing. Francis gets caught in mass mayhem with a stampeding heard of buffalo. When the heard stops, Francis shoots another buffalo at forty yards. This time he gets to skin it when he is ready to go to sleep. In the morning he wakes up to the sound of people talking to each other. When he wakes up there is a person in front of him and he was talking to someone.
I think that the theme is life out west. Life in the west can be very hard when you get left behind by your wagon train and get kidnapped by Pawnee hunters. When you haven't eaten for 2 days and cant find anything to eat, you might starve to death.
My opinion on the book is that when you find two small children, take them with you and take care of them. Also, try to find were there wagon train went and where their pa went like Francis did.

Call Me Francis Tucket
By: Gary Paulsen

The book I read was titled Call Me Francis Tucket. The author is Gary Paulsen. This book is a sequel to the story Mr. Tucket where Francis Tucket is captured by a group of Pawnee Indians on the Oregon Trail on his way out west. In this sequel Francis is surviving with a man named Mr. Grimes. Mr. Grimes is a man who rescues Francis from the Pawnees in this story. Mr. Grimes has been with Francis for a long time and teaches Francis lots of survival skills until something comes up and Mr. Grimes has to take care of some business. There are tons of events that happen in this story and it kept me on the edge of my seat. This book made me sad and made me laugh. This was a great book and I encourage anyone who wants to know more about what the west was like and for people who are interested in survival stories.

      Book Description

When she was good, she was very, very good. . .
When Emma Frasier returns home to joyful, Georgia, she's greeted with the kinds of winks and lusty grins one might offer. . .an adult film star?

But when she was bad. . .
Thanks to small-town gossip and citizens who clearly need to get a life, Joyful's residents think Emma Jean is the "famous star" building a strip club in town. And that her barely concealed. . .uh, attributes are the ones gracing the new interstate billboard.

      She was better.
As if being taken for a blue movie queen isn't rattling enough, there's Johnny Walker, the local bad boy turned good-a man who tempts Emma to be just as wild and wicked as Joyful thinks she is.

Thoroughly enjoyable. Hilarious from beginning to end. First time I've read this authors books. I plan on reading more of them.

      4 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2006-03-01

This is the first book that I've read from this author and by far it didn't disappoint. The book was so well written and comparable to author's Jennifer Crusie or Carly Phillips. The book flowed well and it really drew you into the characters. The book had some sensual parts along with a few spots that got me laughing out loud. I'll be picking up the next book of her's in this series.

      4 out of 5 stars Very entertaining!.......2005-06-09

This was a fun book, with "I Love Lucy" kind of slapstick humor, updated for current times with lots of sex. It read kind of slowly, with lots of crazy misunderstandings centered around the community mistaking Emma for a porn star without her realizing it, and twisting the meaning of everything she innocently said into something absurdly sexual. I think probably would have been even better (more interesting and easy to stick with) had it been a shorter book with some of this craziness editted out.

It took a while to get to the actual substance of the story and sort out all the issues between Emma, Johnny and the misuse of her grandma's pecan orchard. Both characters were very likeable, if only they communicated better and more directly. Johnny was someone I warmed up to from the very first page.

Around page 190-200, there was one very sensual "cooling-off in front of the air-conditioner" scene was just WOW!

4 out of 5 stars Crazy, good fun!.......2005-03-29

A seductive, lazy Southern setting combined with the reallistic modern love & life problems of todays women make this story. Don't get me wrong it's not a sappy story you see Valerie Burtonelli in. It's edgy and witty with plenty of steam generated by the main characters Emma Jean and Johnny.
Because of a misplaced assumption in the local gossip grapevine, everyone in Joyful, GA assumes Emma Jean is a porn star whose just returned to there town after a long absense. It doesn't hurt that she left after an embarrassing nudity incident with the local bad boy heart throb. Blissfully unaware of the rumors, Emma Jean only ends up feeding the flames of embarrassment through her own behavior, especially when she's around Johnny Walker. And every time Johnny sees her he just wants to grab her and bite her in unmentionable places.
Combined with several who done it mysteries, a cast of sparky secondary characters, and an interesting new idea on how to eat pie this book is a definite winner. Look for the next book in this series in September!

5 out of 5 stars Kelly's an author readers can count on! .......2005-03-19

Pecan pie, golden butterflies, and wild Walker men combined make for one heck of a sexy read. When Emma Jean Frasier returns to Joyful, Georgia, the entire universe begins to tilt on its axis for the citizens of the nosy little town. The dialogue in this book is so perfectly in sync with the way I envisioned each character, that I was sad to finish the book. I just didn't want to walk away from a couple as fun as this one. This book reads the way my girlfriends and I talk. It's brash and modern. Emma Jean is a woman we'd all like to have on our speed dial, and of course any woman would be lucky to have a carbon copy of Johnny Walker about. Nick's story hits shelves in September '05, and you can BET I'll be rushing to get my copy.

      5 out of 5 stars getting real w/ kids.......2006-04-04

I don't usually review books that I am selling on amazon, but this book deserves it. I feel like it addresses so many issues that ADHD families suffer through. It talks about school performance, school assistance, medication, doctors, behavioral modification charts (that can be copies out of the back of the book for later usage.)

The text is well researched w/ an extensive bibliography. The format of the book is easy for kids to understand. I think this book could bring a lot of relief to kids and their families.

3 out of 5 stars Good story line, but could of been written better.......2003-08-05

I didn't like this book much because, the writer skipped between the characters minds and I had a hard time following everytime she skipped between.

The story plot, in its self, was good. I liked the way the plot ran and how it kept you wondering at the end.

The only problem that I had was the writing. I would settle into the story as one persons point of view and then she would change it.

Over all if you could deal with re-reading paragraphs to find out how shes talking about, the book it worth reading. I wouldn't read it again though.

Mustangs & Unicorns was a delightful read for this amuture history buff. The detail of the 359th FG and the FS's 368,369,&370 is very detailed. I am proud to know a member of the 369th FS Capt:John Oliphint. The WW2 pilots are fast going on to another place. Remember the freedom they fought for and ours today because of them and so many others. All gave some, and some gave all. Freedom isn't free. John Oliphint told this to me. Keep the memories alive. This read isn't fiction it's the real thing. JL.

This book is a fascinating look at the history of the 359th Fighter Group. It contains many pictures and a detailed account of the results of all their combat missions. This is a great book for the WWII Aviation enthusiast, with an emphasis on the P-51 Mustang and P-47 Thunderbolts they flew.

Why do they rub food in their hair? Why do they want to hear the same book over and over? Why do they love being naked?

Between the ages of one and three, children can be delightful, affectionate, intelligent explorers of their newfound world. They can also be holy terrors. Grounded in up-to-date research, The Secret Lives of Toddlers demystifies 52 common behaviors of toddlers, while helping parents appreciate the miraculous development of their children.

An entertaining, reassuring guide to toddler behavior, this book shows parents how to get through their kids' toddlerhood with affection, humor, and authority. With explanations from pediatricians, child development experts, and behavioral psychologists, parents will learn to:

                        - Understand the world from a child's point of view
                        - Learn which bad behaviors need intervention and which can be ignored
                        - Cultivate good manners and reward good behavior
                        - Reduce their own frustration
                        - Play, speak, read, and interact with their toddler in healthy ways

5 out of 5 stars The best parenting book on toddlers I have ever read.......2006-07-17

This book is wonderful! As an Early Interventionist working with 0-3 year olds I was looking for a resource that was very parent friendly. This book address many of the issues parents of toddlers face and gives practical family friendly advice on how to handle it. I think parents and professionals can benefit from reading this book because it is fascinating to learn why toddlers do certain things. I loved this book!!!

3 out of 5 stars The Bare Minimum.......2006-01-21

I really thought this book would have a little more backround information. Like the above reviewer I felt it was very light. I don't think I would have purchased it if I had seen it in a store and flipped through the book. The most helpful section was on hitting, but it was still basically common sense or repeats of other information I have read.

4 out of 5 stars Good quick reference guide.......2005-10-06

This book provides a quick and easy reference to common toddler behaviors. It is well researched and presented in a quick and easy format. It's not an in-depth child development or behavior modification book but does provide a handy format to look up target issues, find out why your child does things in a certain way or at a certain age, and offers tips for coping with the behaviors. Sometimes just knowing the why behind something is enough for a frustrated parent.

                        2 out of 5 stars Basically a magazine book.......2005-09-14

This book shouldn't be called a book. The information is so light weight I would classify it as a compilation of articles from parents magazine. You can find this stuff anywhere, just go to babycenter and you will get the same, if not better information. Not enlightening, unless you have done zero research. So annoyed I payed for this thing!

4 out of 5 stars Informative and interesting.......2005-08-09

This book isn't rocket science... But it is a great way to gain some sanity and understanding when your toddler is driving you mad. It explains why children do what they do, and that in most cases, annoying toddler behaviors are important developmental milestones and NOT just a child being 'naughty.'

"While mastering the art of French cooking," Raji Jallepalli writes in the introduction to her cookbook, Raji Cuisine: Indian Flavors, French Passion, "one learns to embrace the finesse, formality, control, and order of the classic restaurant cuisine that has evolved primarily through the hands of male chefs. In Indian cooking, you will find simple and quite ancient kitchen traditions laced with spontaneity, intense bouquets, and a very basic approach to preparing inviting meals that has evolved through the hands of women in the home kitchen." The food served at Restaurant Raji in Memphis, Tennessee, is a combination of the two methods. "In my kitchen," Jallepalli explains, "I retain the basic principles and balance of French cuisine while introducing the profound bouquets of Indian cooking."

Jallepalli divides her book into chapters that include hors d'oeuvres and appetizers, soups, salads and side dishes, meat, poultry, game, fish, vegetables, and desserts. She begins with Sevruga Caviar and Dal Blinis and ends with Chilled Mango-Saffron Soup. In between you'll find such dishes as Coconut Milk Soup with Lobster and Toasted Poppy Seeds, Veal Medallions Wrapped in Lotus Leaf, Tea-Smoked Quail with Hyderbad Biryani, and Lemongrass Sorbet with Sweet Spice Madeleines.

From the natural elegance of the recipes that Raji Jallepalli presents in Raji Cuisine (many of which are illustrated with beautiful color photographs) it would seem that these two threads of culinary tradition have been waiting to merge ever since the Age of Discovery first presented the possibility. Nothing seems forced or contrived. The masculine tradition of the French kitchen has gone home splashed with sandalwood and patchouli, forever changed. These are not every day recipes, but to plan a special dinner party around Raji Cuisine would truly spring a joyful surprise on the unsuspecting. --Schuyler Ingle

                        Book Description

When Raji Jallepalli was a child growing up in India, she loved to sneak into the kitchen to carefully observe the cook and ask questions about whatever happened to be on the stove. Her parents discouraged such behavior--since Indian ladies did not cook. With a career in the kitchen unthinkable, Raji immersed herself in a career in microbiology. Years later, she visited France and fell in love with French food and wine. On first tasting the food she thought, "This is nice, but it could use some of the assertive flavors of my homeland as well as some lightening up."

Three important influences--her Indian upbringing, scientific background, and love of French cuisine--inform Raji's cooking and account for her incredible success as a chef, and a self-taught one at that. Her eponymous restaurant, Restaurant Raji in Memphis, Tennessee, was nominated for a James Beard Award in 1996 and 1997 and helped establish Raji as one of this country's hottest culinary stars. She has been called "a major player" by the New York Times, and her restaurant was dubbed "one of the most exciting in America" by Food & Wine. Raji defines her brand of fusion as "a rather quiet combining of vastly different cultures, philosophies, and cooking techniques." In her kitchen she retains the basic principles and balance of French cuisine while introducing the profound bouquets of Indian cooking. As star chef and Raji fan Charlie Trotter writes in the foreword, "Hers becomes one cuisine--not a melding of two. It is completely natural, there is nothing contrived about it."

All the recipes in Raji Cuisine come from Raji's restaurant but are adapted for the home kitchen. A full glossary of Indian spices appears, along with a primer on techniques and notes on choosing wine to accompany Raji's uniquely flavored fare.

Outstanding, easy-to-follow recipes, gorgeous four-color photographs, and Raj'i's own reflections on her incredible journey to stardom in America's foremost culinary circles--all combine to make Raji Cuisine a welcome and remarkable debut from an extraordinary talent.

3 out of 5 stars Not what I had hoped for........2003-02-13

I cook often and adore Indian food. These recipes are a bit labor intensive as they often require oils and other elements that you must make before beginning the recipes. And the results are good but lack that Indian 'spice' (not heat - but intensity, rather) that I had hoped for. So I will continue to play are with Madhur Jaffrey's authentic (and delicious) recipes, incorporating French elements on my own. I have had better results that way.

2 out of 5 stars Beware: This is not flavorful Indian food!.......2001-08-22

I thought this would be the best cookbook ever - Indian spices with elegant French fare. Well, I've made three things from this book and all were pretty bland. If you already have basic cooking skills, you'd be better served by buying an Indian cookbook and applying that philosophy to cooking to meats and vegetables.

5 out of 5 stars Simple and Beautiful.......2000-09-30

She has a beautiful philosophy and created a simple book. It is really French dishes with Indian accents (with the exception of some phyllo). As she puts it, Indian cooking tends to disguise the main ingredient while French cooking does the opposite. I learned from her that French cooking is really the simplest cooking, and not to be intimidated by it. And, likewise, not to be intimidated by Indian ingredients. I really love this cookbook.

4 out of 5 stars Elegant Indian Fare.......2000-04-15

Usually cookbooks that are photographed so beautifully have recipes that are impossible to follow or replicate. This is not the case in Raji Cuisine. Most Indian cooking is quite labor intensive, requiring numerous steps. Most of Jallepalli's recipes were quite easy. The real test came when I prepared a 4 course meal using the recipes in the book. My guest were quite pleased, and loved the variety in flavors that usually don't detect in average Indian fare. Since it is sometimes difficult to decide what wine should go with intensely spiced food, I appreciated the wine suggestions for each of the main courses.

                          5 out of 5 stars GREAT STUFF!!!!.......2006-08-07

The bottom line on this book is that it is a " must have " for anyone that is interested in glass period. The pictures are very well done along with the knowledge of crackle glass. It is hard to believe that this is the first book ever on the subject. I will buy the two others right away! Stan and Arlene Weitman , thank you .

1 out of 5 stars Best Book for Wrong Information.......2006-03-28

When I first flipped through this book, I thought it showed some promise. Now having gone through it page by page I've come to realize how wrong it is to judge a book by it's cover(or flipping through it in this case). To say this book is full of mistakes is an understatement. In fact since going through this book I think it can be blamed for a fair amount of misidentified crackle glass on the internet. There are so many misidentified pieces I couldn't list them in the space alloted. I understand that guide books are simply that, but the fact of the matter is most folks will quote from them as gospel.
The images (large amount of cruets) are very repetative. After a while they all seem to run together in a mismash of misidentified Blenko, Rainbow, Pilgrim et. al.
Save your money, buy the Leslie Pina books, while they aren't perfect either, they are a heck of a lot better than this "guide book". While Pina's books are not cheap, you know what the saying is "you get what you paid for". I really wish I had not paid for this book.

5 out of 5 stars Clear Pictorial guide for the collector.......1999-10-06

This book provides a wonderful display of crackle glass with vibrant photographs and detail. It provides information to help the collector assess the value in regards to color and type of crackle glass. A wonderful addition to the Weitman's first book on crackle glass. I would like to see more unique pieces. There is repetitive glass in this book, however they differ slightly and do offer valuable information. A wonderful book for the beginner as well as advanced collector. Five stars!

Eye-fooler quilts play with our sight and imagination, creating wonderful illusions in shapes and colors. Though complex to look at, these quilts are surprisingly easy to make when quilters are given sound direction. Here are instructions for more than 40 dazzling designs, the patterns falling into the following major divisions:

                          * Perspective and 3D effects * Circles * Grids * Interlacing patterns * Counterchange * Transparency effects

Here too are general instructions for making any quilt, with details on necessary tools and equipment, suggested fabrics and colors, the use of grids and templates, methods of sew-ing, instruction on assembling pieces, and techniques for finishing. Readers will also find a helpful list of resources for materials, as well as a bibliography and a glossary. Here's a book that deserves a place in every sewing enthusiast's personal library. More than 250 color illustrations.

                          3 out of 5 stars Three Stars.......2004-08-03

I give this book only three stars because the title & cover illustration give you high expectations about what is going to be inside the book and once you open the book you might find yourself disappointed. This book does contain some optical illusion quilts but most of the examples are not particularly remarkable or interesting. They are for the most part, the same type of quilt blocks that you can find in your typical, generic book of quilt blocks.
This book does have some good points, though. It has many fine and detailed illustrations about how to make a quilt. It would be a great guide for a beginning quilter. However, if you are an experienced peruser of quilt books and/or maker of quilts you will probably not find this book to be terribly exciting.

Room Redux can be used in several ways: as an introduction to basic design concepts, as a problem solver, and as a workbook. The book starts off with the premise that most rooms are not perfect to begin with, and if you're going to decorate or redecorate a room you'll have to make the most of its shortcomings.

Questionnaires help you assess the strengths and weaknesses of each room and how and where to begin. Authors Joann Eckstut and Sheran James provide workable solutions for problem areas common to many homes. Are the windows in your living room too low? Hang the curtain valance higher or mount a shelf above the window and place sculptures or pictures above it. Want to spruce up some boring built-in bookcases? Add new face moldings, baseboards, and cornices, or hang pictures along the edges.

The authors' solutions are often refreshingly quick fixes that don't require a major amount of remodeling--just a bit of time and ingenuity. Suggested projects are marked "quick-fix," "moderate," or "major" so that decorators can know ahead of time what they're getting into.

The book contains pockets for collecting fabric swatches, pictures, and article clippings. And if you've ever moved a roomful of furniture only to discover its new layout doesn't work, you'll be inspired to use the enclosed graph paper and to-scale punch-out furniture to preplan your room to your liking. Color drawings present a variety of fabrics and furniture styles, and handy charts provide tips on lighting placement and dimensions for spaces between furniture. Infinitely practical, Room Redux picks up where the coffee-table decorator books fall short. --Kris Law

This was a great book in explaining the elements of decorating. It doesn't have room pictures, but it throughly explores important aspects of decorating, such as color, fabric, flooring, and architecture. It is a great teaching book.

I found this book very helpful. It's a workbook with guidelines for making decorating choices, covering most aspects from color to furniture to flooring and a lot more. Each section has handy pockets for storing samples, notes, etc. Being able to lay out floor plans using the grid paper and the furniture templates was especially helpful. I just bought another copy to give as a gift for another new homeowner.

No, there are no photos, just sketches. But I have plenty of decorating books with pretty pictures. This one teaches how to decorate in a way that surpasses any other book I own. Each chapter starts with questions about the topic of the chapter and what you feel you want to do with your room in response to that question. By the end of the chapter, you can answer the questions for yourself.

For example, the chapter on color has ten questions: 1) Are you worried about keeeping colors consistent from one room to the next, 2) Are you using color to adjust the personality of your room, 3) Do you want just white, 4) Are you trying to revise the look of the colors of your room wothout overhauling your entire scheme, 5) Are you trying to duplicate a color you fell in love with on vaction 6) Is the quality of the light getting in the way of you color choices 7) Are you wondering whether you should paint the same color over everything on your walls, including the moulding, 8) Are you looking to color to make your room feel larger, smaller, taller, shorter, or wider, 9) Are you nervous about using a wild color you find yourself attracted to, and 10) Do you like the color you chose for your wall, but find its effect somewhat bland.

Determining the answers to these questions is well presented in the text. Topics in the color chapter include how light in your part of the world(northern hemishpere, though it would be easy to adapt to the southern hemisphere) affects color, depending on which window it's coming in through and the season. How changing light bulbs can change the effect of the color. How colors interact with each other and why you should be careful about what background you place those carpet squares against when trying them out. I've tried combining contrasting colors and this is the first book that really tells me why it didn't work when I did it and how to make it work better. It tells me why I hate my kitchen. What you learn here will let you look at those picture books so you can decide what makes the room work.

So many good sections and tips. Many of the tips can be used by someone in an apartment who can't paint the walls, and there suggestions in all price ranges. It may be common knowledge to someone trained in this stuff, but to me most of it was new and valuable. What wasn't new was so well presented it makes this book a one-stop guidebook.

Great all around reference book with good information. Gives you theory you can understand and valuable facts like standard furniture dimensions, color theory, space requirements in a room and helpful hints all throughout. Wonderful to find a book like this that has everything in one place. A keeper in the library!

Room Redux is by far the best decorating book out on the market today. There is an incredible amount of information in this book, but it is presented in an abundantly clear and easy-to-access format. To me, it's like the Joy of Cooking for home design--for anything you need help with, an answer resides within. You also get the feeling that the authors are good friends talking you through each step, unlike so many dry and boring decorating books out there. Lastly, there are wonderful features to this book like pockets for paint chips and fabric swatches and cut-out furniture pieces for floor plans. If you're going to buy one decorating book, this is the one to buy. And, believe me, I know--I've read just about every book out there!

                              “I've had a very happy life...really, I have!” - Judy Garland

Unfortunately, from the many projects produced about Judy, you would never know it.

While a number of biographies have been published detailing Judy's life, most all have concentrated on her later years and have provided an inaccurate and distorted image of the star, her life and her career. Previous Judy Garland biographies are far more interesting for the information that they leave out, rather than for that which they put in! No one can deny the very real sadness and struggle that Judy faced at distinct points in her life, yet that same life was also full of much joy and happiness. Judy Garland, The Golden Years captures that joy and happiness and stands in sharp contrast to both past and present Garland works in a variety of ways:

                              • Provides an honest, factual account of Judy's early life and MGM career that is loving, sensitive, respectful and appropriate for all readers.

                              • Features a foreword and a chapter written by Margaret O'Brien, beloved child star who starred with Judy in Meet Me in St. Louis. This is the one and only Judy book to which she has ever personally contributed.

•Includes family photos, documents, letters and diaries dating from 1727, as well as a detailed family history and family tree. There are also first time contributions from family members who have never contributed to any Judy project before.

                              • Includes a complete MGM filmography, a DECCA discography, a film music history, a detailed recap of Judy's radio appearances through this period, an early publicity photo section, a headlines section, as well as separate chapters on The Wizard of Oz and Meet Me in St. Louis.

                              • Is illustrated with over 600 new, original, most previously unpublished, photos from Judy's life that show the light in her eyes, the dazzle in her smile and the joy in her being.

                              • Contains unique, original collectibles including personal documents and letters as well as vintage posters, novelties, advertising and other memorabilia.

Whether you first met Judy Garland as Andy Hardy's sidekick while sitting through a Saturday matinee, fell in love with her at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair or traveled down the yellow brick road with her while sitting in front of your family's television set, Judy Garland, The Golden Years will provide you with the story of the real Judy Garland, a woman who was good and kind, honest and sincere, who was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, friend and mother, who did the best she could in all situations, who, time and time again, would not allow herself to be defeated, who picked herself up and started over, who loved her children more than anything else and always tried to do the best by and for them and who, most of all, will always be remembered for bringing joy to millions of people the world over.

What more could anyone ask from a life - and a definite happy one at that.

This comes off as a fan magazine type publication; other than the Margaret O'Brien intro, there's really not much that is intimately Judy here. The photos are mainly poor quality; many are reproductions from newspaper type quality. Save your money and buy another Judy book; Scott Schecter, Gerold Frank, and many more that blow this one away.

Judy Garland has, of course, been greatly overdone, but this author manages to present the actress and singer in an entirely new light. It is an interesting, enjoyable read. There are many new things presented and many new facts and many new pictures. There is none of the sensantionalistic stupidty that marks other Judy Garland books.
