Good service.......2006-02-22
Always a joy to order from Amazon.com. Will be doing so again. Always top-notch service.
Informative, entertaining, and all around a must buy!.......2001-12-09
Written between Flood Tide and Atlantis Found, this book should be in any Cussler fan's library. It starts out with a clunky but entertaining enough story where Cussler wanders around a party in the hanger and reminices with Dirk's allies, girls, and villains before getting to the man himself. Then there's an interview where Cussler tells his whole life story, and it's a simply fascinating rags to riches tale. We continue with the best part of the book in my opinion, complete plot synopses and background info on every Cussler book up to Flood Tide, including The Sea Hunters. Finally, there's an encyclopedia of all the people, vehiclles, locations, and everything else in every book. It ends with the tantalizing first chapter of Atlantis Found. I had actually read that book first, but it would definitely make me want to buy it even if I wasn't a Cussler fan. Any Cussler fans out there, you must have this book!
would be better without reunion.......2001-03-09
the book will fresh up your memories, the interview is good and the summaries are great, and so is the "encyclopedia". but the reunion is totally dumb. a lot of dead people talking about who was the worst badguy, please, that's stupid.
Sure-fire Pleaser !.......2001-02-04
From " The Reunion " to the plot synopsis', this is a terrific read. Cussler gifted us with a most extraordinary little tale in The Reunion...which I won't give away here. The bio is wonderful and I found myself thinking " what I wouldn't give to have this guy as a neighbor. " It is all things Pitt and quite a bit Cussler, which may or may not be the same - but, it has been a repeat read and a book I have passed on to family and friends.
CRAP.......2001-01-25
It seems it was thrown together ina hurry to grab some more money from DIrk Pitt's fans like myself !! I bought it at once, and found it horrible, total waste of money.
Book Description
Imogen, Lady Maitland, has decided to dance on the wild side. After all, she's in the delicious position of being able to take a lover. A discreet male who knows just when to leave in the morning.
But Lady Maitland is still under the watchful eye of her former guardian, the wildly untamed Rafe, the Duke of Holbrook. He believes she is still in need of a "watchdog." She laughs at the idea that someone so insufferably lazy and devoted to drink can demand that she behave with propriety.
It's Rafe's long-lost brother, a man who looks precisely like the duke but with none of his degenerate edge, who interests Imogen. To Imogen, he's the shadow duke . . . the man who really should hold the title. But when Imogen agrees to accompany Gabe to a masquerade...whose masked eyes watch her with that intense look of desire? Who exactly is she dancing with? The duke or the shadow duke? Rafe . . . or Gabe?
Customer Reviews:
Are you kidding me?.......2007-06-30
I've read the first two books, so I may be looking at it from a different angle, but I can't imagine the conclusion being any different.
One of the most important things in a book is the characters and in this one I found them to be severely lacking. Take Imogen for example, she is a selfish, loose and downright mean woman. Some of her actions along with the nasty things she says to Rafe, have me questioning if she could actually be called a heroine. Throughout the whole book, she is trying to land Gabe (his brother, that he never knew he had), but by the end she suddenly finds herself in love with Rafe, who was posing as Gabe. How she can think he is a drunk slob with no redeeming qualities one minute and the love of her life the next is beyond me. All because he stops drinking and loses a few pounds? Then we have Rafe. He is a drunk and one of the only redeeming qualities in this book is that he overcomes his drinking. It's just too hard of a stretch to go from a irresponsible, drunken slob (with a belly) to the endeering characterists of a "hero" that we all look for. The fact that he seduces her without her really knowing it is him till the very end is just far fetched and entirely unbelievable. There are too many other characters that you tend to bounce around a lot. Gillian goes after Rafe in the beginning and then she falls for his brother, Gabe. (which in my opinion was actually the better romance) Lets see, then we have Loretta, Gabe's other, and of course his daughter Mary. And we can't forget Griselda and Mayne. There is just way too much going on and not enough focus on the main characters. But then again when your hero and heroine are as unlikable as Imogen and Rafe, I guess it doesnt leave you much choice.
She tries to bring life to the story with Shakespeare, but it just leaves you more confused. I was very disappointed in this book and I just cannot recommend reading it, none the less buying it.
Need More Eloisa James.......2007-06-18
While I do agree with some of the naysayers that I would have liked to have known when Imogen knew that "Gabe" was Rafe, come on, how could she not have known? They are not identical twins, and she has looked into Rafe's face for over a year; she must have known it was him before they did the deed. I love how James does the two romances in one, because I sincerely hate the trend of romance writers filling out the story with a murder mystery or damsel in distress. I like the conflict to have to do with characters, and adding a second romance angle is satisfactory to me. I am reading these out of order, and working on Annabel's story now. Love the Essex sisters and Griselda! Also loved the baby Mary angle. Love parent/child love in romances!
A Wonderful and Sexy Romance.......2007-06-07
Fie on those who want their heros perfect! The romance between Imogen and Rafe has been simmering away in the two previous books of this series. How wonderful to finally see it blossom. I think Ms. James played this one exactly right. The book is filled with joyous humor, the literary allusions are delightful and the smouldering sensuality in the love scenes between the "hero" and "heroine" is just perfect. It's so refreshing to find lovable characters with human flaws. I give this book a Ten out of Ten.
I found it to be a very good read........2007-05-20
Although I must be a bit different from some romance readers, I found this one to be unique in many ways. Maybe it was because it was the first book I had read by Ms. James; didn't start at the beginning. Of this series, I liked it the best, along with the last one about Josie. I loved Imogene and Rafe! Yes, they have flaws, but if you read many of Ms. Jame's books you'll find this is her style. I like that Rafe cared enough to change, and Imogene cared enough to let go of her pride.
Enjoyable and different, especially if you enjoy a flawed hero.......2007-03-13
After finishing this book I was curious to read what others thought because I found it to be quite different from other historical romances. I was somewhat dismayed by the negative remarks and was prompted to write my first review. Although I agree with some of the criticisms, I found the mentioned weaknesses (not being more privy to the heroine's thought process) didn't affect my enjoyment of the story. I should mention I haven't read the others in this series, although I plan to now. I enjoyed the book precisely because it is different from many of the historical romances I've read in the past in that the hero is quite flawed and is even somewhat physically deteriorated. His flaws are both invisible and visible. The author doesn't attempt to offset his flaws with wonderful traits and in fact showcases his undesirable side. When the heroine, Imogen, comes to the hero's "rescue", I loved that his struggles showed an ugly side. (Don't want to give away too much of the story here). And while it is true that the reader is much more privy to Rafe's thoughts than Imogen's, I was quite taken in by Rafe's struggle to become worthy of Imogen. I also enjoyed the interplay among the other characters and the Shakespearean elements. I would recommend it to anyone looking to read a historical romance that is well researched and presents a unique backdrop for the plot and features an unlikely hero. As with anything that doesn't quite fit the "mold", it won't be everyone's cup of tea. As with almost all historical romances, one has to be willing to accept some unlikely scenarios, and in this case a seriously flawed hero. I loved it and plan to pass it along to a reader who will appreciate its unique romance.

THIS IS DEFINITELY A KEEPER.......2001-11-29
In view of the two previous reviews I will keep this short.
This book is highly recommended and I have read hundreds. [better than 1500]
You will not be able to put it down -- such a wonderful change from the contemporaries now-a-days.
Great author -- Great story -- don't pass this one up -- you won't be sorry.
A Winner!.......2001-11-08
I've always had a soft place in my heart for broken heroines, the ones cast away from Society from no fault of their own. The ones that are resolved to live a spinster's life with no hope of marrying into a descent family or having children of their own. Such is the case for Lady Alicia Spencer, who was set up by a dowager duchess to be caught in an scandelous situation with Justin Sykes. The duchess set Alicia up to keep her away from her son Drake so he could marry another girl. Now Alicia must live out her days as a spinster, with nothing more to do than to heal injured horses.
Dalton Warfield has heard of Alicia's ablitity to care for injured horses so he asks for help in caring for his horse, Bashashar, who was seriously hurt in a shooting incident. The only catch is that Alicia must come to Dalton's home to care for the horse. That means that Alicia will have to face Dalton's conniving mother and endless members of the Ton who turned their back on her and cast her aside. Alicia agrees and soon moves into Dalton's cottage. Dalton, seeing Alicia as a means of getting out of marrying money-hungry Elizabeth, proposes marriage. She agrees that after she bears Dalton a son, her life will be her own and she will be free to do as she pleases. Soon Alicia and Dalton marry, against his mother's wishes. Things become complicated though when each fall in love with the other. And after catching Alicia embracing his friend Justin Sykes, Dalton begins to think that the rumor of Alicia and Justin just might be true. Will he ever be able to really trust her? And will the mystery of who shot at Dalton ever be revealed?
This novel was absolutely wonderful. The story and it's characters kept me reading late into the night until I had it finished. I found myself glued to the pages to find out who shot at Dalton and his horse. I also was interested as to whether or not Dalton and his mother could ever put the painful secret between them behind and begin a normal relationship with one another. If you're looking for a great Regecy romance, this is one you can't pass up! Jackie Manning has another winner on her hands.

Wonderful, witty and sexy!.......2001-05-17
Lady Alicia Spencer has been a social outcast ever since a scheming dowager duchess set her up to be found in a compromising position with a man. Ruined, she's resigned to being a spinster with a gift for healing and breeding champion race horses for Newmarket.
Dalton Warfield, Duke of Wexton, has a prized stallion who suffers from hysteria after being shot at. Alicia is his only hope for curing him else he has to put him down. Alicia thinks his offer is part of a cruel joke - after all, it was his mother who caused her ruin. But an unattractive ultimatum from her father forces Alicia to accept the duke's offer.
Dalton has no idea of his mother's involvement in Alicia's ruin. In fact, his relationship with his mother has been strained ever since he walked in on her with his uncle when he was 12. The dowager has also been pressing Dalton to marry Lady Elizabeth, a whining shrew whom Dalton has no plans in offering for. Upon learning of Alicia's reason for spinsterhood, and that his mother was responsible, Dalton decides to turn the tables.
He makes Alicia an offer of marriage. Although she sees right through Dalton's plan to shock his mother, she knows that marriage to a wealthy duke will provide funds for her family's failing estate as well as dowries for her two younger sisters. She agrees and, at the final ball of the season, Dalton announces his engagement to Alicia, which enrages his mother and Lady Elizabeth.
What begins as a marriage of convenience soon turns to love as Dalton falls for his new bride as she continues to work with his horse. Alicia, however, thinks that his words of love and passionate nights together are just for show until she gives him a son. The plot soon thickens when the mystery gunman who shot at Dalton's horse returns to finish the job. Now that Alicia's life is at risk, Dalton hires an investigator who's findings lead to the dowager's past indescretion, blackmail and a terrible secret that may widen the rift between Dalton and his mother or, with the gentle influence and patience of Alicia, heal it.
This was an absolute WONDERFUL book! I had a hard time putting it down because I had to keep finding out what was gonna happen next. If you're a lover of the regency era, get this book!

Book Description
From an esteemed child psychiatrist: a bold, fresh, and controversial look at the faddish child–rearing practices that have created a nation of children who are depressed, alienated, often amoral, and all too often violent. The shock of the Columbine shootings and other school violence has generated a national debate, and there's a dawning realization that something incomprehensible is happening: our privileged, pampered children are turning into monsters at an alarming rate.
With years of study and first–hand experience, Dr. Robert Shaw exposes the roots of what he calls The Epidemic: the violence and the more subtle behaviour problems that are jeopardizing a generation. In this eye–opening book, Dr. Shaw explains that the "advanced" parenting methods experts have promoted for the last thirty years have helped to create a nation of children who are detached loners, unable to form meaningful relationships. From infancy through the teen years, Dr. Shaw provides a map back to sanity that tracks specific misguided parenting techniques and shows parents how to get and keep their children on track and create the environment necessary for a healthy psychological future.
Some of the important ground Dr. Shaw covers includes:
o The myths and realities of bonding and attachment
o How to recognize when day care is working – and when it isn't
o Landmarks to look for in your children's moral and ethical development
o Self–centeredness versus self–esteem
o Keeping the media from mugging your child
o What can be done with a child who is out of control
Dr. Shaw challenges us to confront a very real problem, then helps us take steps forward using common sense and humanity. The Epidemic calls us to become better parents––and feel better about the choices we make for our children.

Black and White.......2007-09-25
As a single mother with two small children and some very big questions, I found some reassurance reading this book. Like the cover I did find the author uncomfortable with the gray that makes up most of our lives! Of course one should have our partners vetted before taking a stroll down the aisle and certainly prior to creating a living partnership but reality is, if we knew so much ahead, would we dare enter any relationship.
What happened to my journey into motherhood, was a fast slide down the years to my early upbringing and that was something I was NOT expecting. Thus many many books later, some questions have been answered and along those lines, this book does do an excellent job, of reminding one of the higher road that is to be taken during parenthood. This road is as the author points out, a hard uphill slog against the stream of survival in the competitive world we live.
Have the negative reviewers even read this book?.......2007-07-10
I recently read this book and found it to be both relieving and empowering. I could fill a library with the books I've bought about babies and raising children, but this is one of the ONLY books I've read that really tells you to trust your own instincts and to feel confident in being a real parent. You know, the kind whose job it is to both nurture and love their children AND to teach them structure, limits, independence and consequences. Until now, I would have sworn that every other book I've read said the two were independent of one another!
I was baffled to see other reviewers write things like Dr Shaw doesn't promote breastfeeding or completely misconstruing his advice regarding "on demand" feedings, potty training, etc. For instance, he clearly states that breastfeeding is best UNLESS it is making you miserable, your baby miserable and it just isn't working for you.
Of course, if you can't stand the thought of your child ever crying, being mad at you, disagreeing with you or not having their own way, then this book isn't for you. But if you would like to find a way to teach your children how to be fulfilled and get along in both a family and a civilized world, then please read it! And after all, nothing good ever comes easy, does it?
Responsibility is a must - great read!.......2007-03-18
I thought this book pretty much spelled it out. Yes it has information that is common sense, but then common sense is not common. I appreciated the book stating that responsibility is important as well as good decision making and today kids are not given this at a young enough age to work through poor decisions and lagging responsibility. Learning throughout your childhood to improve decision making and take on responsibility - is accomplished through active parenting. Parents need to parent and friends are peers. The world is tough enough as it is and to go out in the world totally unprepared is not going to make life - any life easier!
Worth reading.......2007-01-25
I thought this book was very refreshing. As a mother of two young children (2 years and 11 mos) I am so SICK of the 'experts' who tell us how to raise our children. Most new mothers are so overwhelmed with information that they are left completely helpless when the time comes to actually get down to business of being a parent. I know this because I felt this way when my first son was born.
Thankfully I realized I needed to toss out all the idiot baby books (yeah, I'm talking about Dr. Sears) and trust my own judgement. I have two wonderful boys who are healthy, sweet, and happy. I'm not so cavalier to think that 'attachment parenting' doesn't work for some families, but it was destroying mine. You really need to decide what works for you and your child's temperment.
Worth Reading.......2006-10-08
Although this book is not in full agreement with the Bible, my Christian brothers and sisters, it is good in that many of the things the author says confirms the truths of Scripture. It's also good evidence that non-Christians are able to recognize major things which Scripture says is true without having to have had their heart changed by God, and therefore are without excuse when they disobey him.
Book Description
Much more than a cookbook, Low Protein Cookery for Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a practical and easy-to-use guide for those who must maintain a protein-restricted diet for treatment of PKU or similar inherited diseases of protein metabolism. It contains hundreds of helpful suggestions for managing the diet. This third edition of Low Protein Cookery for PKU appears exactly twenty years after the original 1977 publication and includes the 450-plus recipes and the hints from the 1988 second edition that have been used and enjoyed by families for nearly a decade.
The major new feature of the third edition is entirely new nutrient calculations. The available food supply has changed significantly in the past fifteen years, and nutrient information is much better now. The nutrient calculations in this edition of the cookbook are based on the updated 1995 Low Protein Food List for PKU compiled by the author, which is the most widely used food list for the PKU diet in the United States. Some of the changes in nutrient values are subtle, others more significant; all reflect the best information currently available.
Low Protein Cookery for PKU offers recipes that appeal to a wide range of ages, suit a wide range of individual diet requirements, and facilitate integration of the diet into normal family eating routines. Many of the recipes are suitable for the entire family; others include instructions for adapting the recipe to suit the needs of family members not on the diet, or are accompanied by recipes for the preparation of similar non-diet items. The recipes provide gram weights when appropriate, for greater accuracy in preparing the recipes and in maintaining the diet.

Really Yummy Recipies!!.......2006-12-22
The food in here is really good stuff! I especially love all the cookie recipies, I haven't made one I don't like! All the special food is expensive, but it's worth it. I really don't know how people managed a PKU diet before the book came out. If you can find the second edition, though, it's almost exactly the same page for page, and I like the spiral binding better, so the book lays flat when you're cooking.
Kidney Disease.......2002-05-17
This book is one of the best helps in the world for those who are going to follow the "very low protein diet" for kidney disease to delay dialysis. The renal dietitians at JHU use this as their Bible in developing diet plans for Dr. Walser's patients. There are a number of helpful suggestions at the start of the book to teach you how to read labels and weigh foods. There are also lists that help you find low protein foods which are updated on the PKU web site. The restrictions on protein for the "very low protein" diet for kidney disease are not as severe as those for PKU, but this book teaches you how to meet those limitations.
Wonderful resource for families & individuals with PKU........1999-06-18
Just keep in mind that it is not a great place to find vegetarian recipes. People with PKU cannot tolerate protein and take a special supplement to provide it. Therefore these recipes will not provide the protein that your average vegetarian will be looking for.
If, however, you or a member of your family has PKU, you should definitely get this book and read the whole thing. TWICE!

In this handsome and accessible guide, popular decorating expert Mary Carol Garrity offers tips and ideas for re-creating her classic, relaxed style in the reader's own home.
Customer Reviews:
Romantic decorating style.......2007-06-26
This modern romantic "style" book is wonderfully photographed. People familiar with Carol Garrity sometimes call this style: the NELL HILL STYLE. By the way, NELL HILL was Carol's grandmother (Carol's inspiration) .
This book is not an HOW TO Book but mostly an idea book and it shows how to decorate in a "romantic ,though modern, way". This romantic-style of decorating may not be for everybody, especially those that prefer a more "MASCULINE TOUCH". But for me....I just love it!
The photos are enchanting. There are some nice written tips on how to decorate, though this is more or less a visual decorating book.
Decorating Outside the Box.......2006-08-25
If nothing else, Mary Carol gives us a few new ideas of decorating outside the box, so to speak. Her style is a mix between traditional and eclectic, so she gives us a bit of everything in this book. I bought my copy of the book for my design library for just a few dollars and worth that price.
move over Martha Stewart--Ms. Garrity is *the* diva of decor!.......2005-07-02
I am fortunate enough to live within driving distance of Mary Garrity's stores in Atchison, KS. Visiting Nell Hill is an amazing experience. Atchison is a little town out in the middle of nowhere, but on the weekends, chartered buses arrive...the store opens at 9 on Saturday and by 10 it's packed. And the chic & cheerful Mary C. Garrity is always on the floor, greeting customers by name, personally carrying garden statuary out to their station wagons...
Her personal skills are amazing, but what is truly inspiring is her flair for display--a flair that is highlighted in this book. For enthusiasts of traditional, Paris Apt, shabby chic, English country, or any pretty decor, "decorating secrets" is a visual feast. I esp. love how it doesn't rely on priceless pieces of furniture and objets, but rather in a skillful mix of accessible elements to create a beautiful home. Bravo Mary!
Awesome book!.......2004-12-01
Mary Carol Garrity has writen a book that deserves a place in every 'home decorator's' library! It's easy reading and pictures a lay person can relate to~inspiring is an understatement!!
Book Description
How do your find an illustrator to create a piece of work? At present, there are a number of methods: looking through myriad agents' promotional books; browsing annual competition collections; trying to find that pile of unsolicited illustrators' cards you just had on your desk the other day; searching the web -- for a few hours!; asking a colleague. All of these methods can work, but they're all time-consuming and haphazard.
What if you need someone to draw some salad on a plate with a glass on wine next to it? You could go through the above processes, and -- after a while -- you'd probably find someone to draw or paint it in the style you wanted. Or you could pick up The Big Book of Illustration Ideas.
