With lively prose, unforgettable characters, and a touch of mischievous wit, Fern Michaels creates vivid reading experiences in all of her acclaimed USA Today and New York Times bestselling novels. Now, she inspires and entertains with a touching tale of the transforming power of love -- and a woman whose broken heart finds more room for the simple pleasures of family and home, and for discovering true love in the last place she expected. Darby Lane and Russell Gunn had been inseparable friends from their early years in the Horseshoe, their wonderful Baton Rouge neighborhood of Southern comforts and childhood fancies, all the way through to graduate-school dreams and beyond. Then the unthinkable happens: a tragic accident takes Russ's life, and Darby's world is shattered. Returning to the Horseshoe in utter despair, Darby clings to the only family she's ever known: the three wily and colorful aunts who raised her. Her long journey to healing takes hold as Darby begins to see Russ's brother Ben through new eyes. Suddenly love blooms in the place of grief, and now, with the help of her aunts, Darby faces the challenge of reuniting Ben with his estranged father -- if they can get through the conniving schemes of Ben's social climber stepmother. Calling on the same tender care and patience with which she builds custom dollhouses, Darby begins to create a new life out of her loss -- and comes to understand that love truly can conquer anything.
Customer Reviews:
Disappointed.......2007-08-16
I am so disappointed in Fern's most recent stories--especially this one! Didn't she used to be a good writer? This is a story that could be made to be almost believable, but instead it seems ridiculous. Her characters have also been getting on my nerves. Nobody talks the way they talk or even have conversations in the manner they do. I'm annoyed.
Dull and too many loose ends.......2007-06-18
I always make it a point to finish every book I start, and this was a chore.
Russ Gunn is anti organ donation and when he dies unexpectedly his step mother donates ALL his organs. His best friend Darby who is pro organ donation is torn throughout the book since she feels she has let him down. The author could have pursued a very moving plot line where all the recipients and their stories were told rather than just a quick look at 3 of the patients. The author also could have pursued a compelling legal drama about the living will being violated.
The author told a disjointed story about a woman who makes doll houses for a living. (Who in their right mind would pay 50K for a doll house - let's get real) She has a cast of aunts who could have been the heroine's of their own novels. She has the evil Bella who runs away never to be heard from again with millions of dollars she stole from her husband.
I plowed through descriptions about doll houses, and family dinners and then ran through speedy plot advancements about relationship development.
I was not impressed by this book and would not read this author by choice again.
Wasn't impressed..........2007-04-18
This was my first book by Ms. Michaels and I must say that I expected more from an author with so many published works. I found it hard to follow, too much going on in my opinion. One dead best friend, Darby, best friend's brother, Ben, 3 crazy aunts, Ben's father, sister & stepmother were all competing for page time and that doesn't even take into account the many other minor characters in the plot. Once I was about a third of the way into the book I did start to like it a little which was the only reason I didn't abandon it all together. I also noticed that the author gave very detailed descriptions alot. The color of the carpets, the types of flowers in the garden, etc. to the point of going overboard for me. I'm sure some people enjoy this kind of mental imagary but for me it becomes a total yawnfest, I'd much rather have interaction between the characters then know the tinest details about what color the bedspread is.
I am planning to give Ms. Michaels another chance to win my loyalty by reading another of her novels as I have had other occasions where I've been luke warm on one book by an author but loved all of her others. Hopefully Ms Michaels next book won't dissapoint.
Faithful reader no more.......2007-01-17
Does anyone bother to edit for Ms. Michaels anymore? From the very first paragraph the book begins to disappoint. ("A torrential torrent"? Really?) Anyway- the characters were half developed, the plot line skimpy, the dialogue trite, and the spelling errors abundant. It reads as is Fern Michaels is trying to be Janet Evanovich and cannot pull it off. She's just not funny. I have been reading Michaels for years and stayed loyal even through the downward spiral of her writing in the "revenge" series, but I have lost all faith in her now. I doubt I will bother to read her books again.
not again.......2006-10-05
ok maybe I am reading the wrong books she writes lol. This is the second and it was not good. Too rushed with the romance, and it was really boring not much drama at all

The Best !.......2007-06-27
Ms. Braun is so skillful at suspense and comedy. The "tales" are wonderful, and as Koko says "Yow !"
I should have read further...........2007-06-11
I love and have all of the "Cat Who..." series with the exception of "60 Whiskers" which I'm waiting to come out in paperback. Since I've read all the books, I was itching to continue enjoying the exploits of Qwill.... I bought this book only to find out that I have the 3 novels (3 tales) already... Next time, I won't be so hasty...
THESE 3 TALES ARE GEMS. .......2007-02-14
Great Fun! Delightful light reading. I like to open one of these after finishing a heavier drama. They're like a breath of fresh air.
This is the first in the series and was actually written by Ms. Jackson Braun. Many of the later volumns (there are around 24)lack substance, are thoroughly predictable, and are believed to be ghost written. Here the characters are well developed and the story line has a few surprises. Enjoy!
Two Cats, Three Tales.......2007-02-10
After I received this book, I discovered it was the first three of her Cat Who books, which I already have. I gave the book to my granddaughter who has enjoyed the stories.
mr q and his cats mewow!!!.......2006-11-07
Have been a van since the beginning of the cat tails. This was bought as a gift for my daugther and now she too wants more cat tails.

This book describes exactly how Reiki energy works, the way it can be used and the effects that can be achieved with its help.

Good Guide To Reiki & Healing Philosophy.......2003-08-13
This book is only about 150 pages, yet it manages to introduce the reader to many valuable areas of information and philosophy about Reiki healing. Usui's 5 principles are examined, as is the attunement process and the science of subtle energies. Complements to Reiki, such as color, sound, crystals, conscious breathing, acupressure, massage, and naturopathy are discussed. The author gives a balanced, realistic idea about what Reiki is and what it can do. There are useful body charts and diagrams, and recommendations for how to practice Reiki according to legalities of your area. My only cautions about this book are that it repeats the mythologized history of Usui's uncovering of Reiki, and that it implies there are no significant hazards of Reiki healing work, and does not guide the practitioner in remaining centered and consciously connected to the Reiki Source as a means of psychic protection. It is presumed that this just happens automatically, which is usually but not always the case. Other than that, I found this book to be a very enlightened approach to educating readers about Reiki. For a compact, affordable guide to Reiki this book is a great investment.
Reiki Clients Will Benefit from this Book.......2001-10-21
I am not a practitioner of Reiki but a client. As a client, I know that no book can ethically claim to be a "how to" book. Formal training is required. But if you are interested in receiving Reiki treatments, this book will help you feel even more relaxed about the process. Plus it gives wonderful background information for those who wish to pursue training in this area. I've glanced at several Reiki books and this is one of the best. So read, enjoy, and open up to the wonderful possibilities of Reiki!
A great guide for Reiki.......2000-04-13
This book is very good for those people who want to know what is Reiki and its origins. Be aware though, that this book doesn't show how to apply a Reiki treatment since you have to receive the healing ability from Reiki Masters. Nevertheless, the information it carries is invaluable.
A great place to start your journey in the field of Reiki.......1999-07-21
This book was my introduction to the world of this beautiful gift of the universe. It piqued my interest in this field of alternative mecidine. An easy read, which spurred me on to find a teacher. That was 4 years ago. If you have an interest in learning the basics of what this is all about, buy it!!! If you want to explore the possibilities in your life, buy it!!! If you are just plain curious as to what this Reiki is all about, buy it!!!
Much better than "Abundance Through Reiki" by same author.......1999-01-27
This book is much better than "The Complete Reiki Handbook" Walter Lubeck, and "Abundance Through Reiki" by Paula Horan. However; Ms, Horan continues to perpetuate two myths about Reiki. 1. The 21 day cleansing process. 2. Dr. Mikao Usui a Christian. The Cleansing process is different for everyone. My cleansing process lasted for two days, but I had 25 years of energy work before receiving my attunements. Dr. Mikao Usui (The man that discovered Reiki in the early 1800s) was a buddhist. Ms. Horan mentioned two associations of Reiki Masters. "Reiki Alliance", and "AIRA (American International Reiki Association". I can add two more associations to this list. "Reiki Touch", and "GRMA (Global Reiki Masters Association". I am a member of the GRMA. Ms. Horan added one nice touch to this book. Namely the Kirlian protography on page 20 demonstrating the difference in the Reiki practitioners energy field before and during a Reiki treatment. This book lacks the symbols used in Reiki. This book lacks instructions for passing attunements. If you have questions or comments about Reiki contact me by E-Mail.

Customer Reviews:
Get in the Zone instead.......2007-03-03
I was VERY disappointed with this book. The Joslin quick and easy recipe book is great however. The healthy carb book is definately only for people who like thier meat still on the hoof. The recipes are unrealistic and I too, found the carb ratios are not what is recommended in the real world. I have better results keeping the Joslin bible in my head, but working with the Zone Cookbook. Be sure your dr agrees b4 you try this at home ;0
Carnivors need not apply.......2007-01-17
This is a good cookbook for vegetarians and relatively inactive ones at that. The meal plans in the back are based on about 1500 calories which would be about 700 or more deficient if you are relatively active.
If you like meat, poultry or fish seek out a different cookbook.
It does have desserts BUT many of the recipes state sugar substitute without giving any hints as to which of the many to use. Since they vary in sweetness and some are packaged as measure for measure equivalent to sucrose, having a recipe saying one packet or 1/8 tsp. may leave you under or over sweetened depending upon what variety you use.
Too Many Carbohydrates.......2002-08-16
I was given this book during a diabetes education class. I'm sorry, but eating as many carbohydrates as this book recommends is not helpful to diabetics. If I ate one serving of most recipes, my blood glucose would shoot way up. I guess if you are looking to keep the pharmaceutical industry in business, this is a good way.
Unrealistic.......2001-07-10
The recipes look great, but are unrealistic for the population I work with and the geographic area I am located in. I am in a small Mid-western community without access to alot of these food items. I have been able to use some of the recipes and love those recipes I have tried. Thanks for the great recommendation.

A great history, identification, and price guide........2002-10-15
I've been collecting American toy soldiers all of my life, and this is by far the best guide that I've ever found. It works as a good overall history of the subject, as well as, a specific historical guide to the companies and individuals involved. It is also superb as an identification guide and for approximate pricing.
Whether you are into cast metal figures like Maniol, Barclay, or Grey Iron, or the classic Marx, Ideal, MPC, or Lido plastics, this is one great guide. It even covers comic book flats, paper soldiers, cerial premiums, and the original G.I. Joe. You can spend hours just flipping though this hefty book and reminiscing, even if you don't currently collect.
Collecting Toy Soldiers. (1996) Third Edition.......2000-07-10
Second of two large soft cover books by Richard O'Brien, specifically aimed at the identification and fair value of American Made Toy Soldiers. Includes brief history of each manufacturer pre and post WWII styles of soldiers. Top quality materials, mine has traveled thousands of miles in suitcases, back packs and the backseat. Opened and closed hundreds of times, it is still in great shape. Crisp and clear photos of most of the listed items have helped avoid confusion and misidentification.
With on-line auctions setting the pace in the toy soldier collecting world. An identification guide of this quality is a must in establishing a BEGINNING bid, while desirability sets how high the actual cost will go. Hopefully, an update of this book is in work as in my opinion the on-line auctions have driven the price of many of the toys to often double their listed price.

1001 ideas for trimwork.......2007-07-04
the book as far as reading is concerned is very good.i bought thinking that it was furniture trimwork, but it has not gone wasted. I can steal ideas from the book for my furniture in all a very good book for people in that type of business
Ideas Galore.......2006-03-14
If you're doing trimwork but have never spent a lot of time looking at various ideas out there, this is an excellent book to get your creative mind going. There are numerous variations of trim possibilities within these pages. But the best thing for me was the pages of molding profiles showing the various types and styles of molding available. Not all of it is available in my market, but it gave me ideas for molding I could make using my tools. Overall a really good book - I keep it by my bedside and go through it regularly just to create new ideas for trimwork.

Book Description
In the forty years since he first appeared on the New York art scene, Andy Warhol has become synonymous with Pop Art--and with the wry definition of fame as something that never lasts more than 15 minutes. But Warhol spent his career working so prodigiously as to assure long lasting renown. In the printmaking field alone, his output was prolific, and his appropriation of silkscreen as a fine art medium forever altered the way prints look. This thoroughly revised and expanded fourth edition of Andy Warhol Prints: A Catalogue Raisonne: 1962-1987 traces Warhol's complete graphic oeuvre from his first unique works on paper in 1962 through his final published portfolio in 1987. More than 1,700 works are illustrated, an increase of 500 from the previous edition of the catalogue raisonn , and complete documentation is provided for each. New additions include a section focusing on Warhol's popular portraits, with documentation of prints that were related to paintings commissioned during the 1970s and 1980s and a new supplement featuring prints and illustrated books from the 1950s, including the beloved 25 Cats Named Sam and One Blue Pussy. There is also an eight-page essay by Donna De Salvo addressing Warhol's self-published books and portfolios from the same era. An extensive chronology of printmaking activity, a complete exhibition history, a selected bibliography, and a greatly expanded appendix to published prints, complete the book. Andy Warhol Prints: A Catalogue Raisonne: 1962-1987, in its fourth edition, will continue to be the critical reference tool for scholars, collectors, auction houses, libraries, curators, and art dealers.

excellent Buyers guide.......2007-04-30
With a lot of so-called bargains on ebay, this really helps to verify if it is an athentic Warhol print. Good are the infos on Warhol's "after" prints like Sunday B. Morning.
only for true lovers.......2007-03-23
This is more of an encyclopedic collection. Get it only if you are a student (or more than just a fan). To be sure, there are many, many beautiful images (as was much of Warhol's work esp in the 80s) but most of the images are 2-inch or 4-inch squares. This is not a coffeetable book designed for delightful perusing and seeing large images.
ANDY WARHOL PRINTS: A CATALOGUE RAISONNE' 1962-1987.......2005-12-19
UNLIKELY IMPORTANT IS THE POMP AND DUSTY RESOLVE FROM ONE REVIEWER. THIS IS WITHOUT EQUAL A HAND BOOK FOR THE SILKSCREEN PRINTER. A VIRTUAL BLUE PRINT OF COLOR AND COMPOSITION LAYERED IN COMPLEX RICHNESS .
FOR THIS REVIEWER, PROCESS,PROCESS,PROCESS IS WARHOLS GIFT TO ART HISTORY {EVEN IF HIS ART IS MISTAKENLY THOUGHT OF AS VAPID . }
MASTERED BY SUCH PRINTERS AS ALEXZANDER HEINRICI AND RUPERT JASEN SMITH, SILKSCREEN PRINTING IS IN FACT A VERY COMPLEX ARTFORM.THESE PRINTS WHERE NOT MADE WITH THE AID OF COMPUTERS, SUCH AS TODAYS "ARTISTS" EMPLOY.RATHER THIS BODY OF WORKS ARE PAINSTAKENLY PRODUCED BY HAND EITHER BY WARHOL OR BY ARTISAIN PRINTERS.
COMPLEX PHOTOGRAPHIC MEANS ARE EMPLOYED FOR WARHOLS STENCIL MAKING. AS IMPORTANT TO ART HISTORY AS SENEFELDERS LITHOGRAPHIC PRESS INVENTION, SO WILL SILKSCREEN TECHNIQUES ANDY WARHOL PIONEERED. PERHAPS WARHOLS WORK WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED IMPORTANT TO ART HISTORYS FUTURE PERVEYORS.IT WILL IN FACT BE TESTIMATE THAT A PRINTMAKING MEDIUM WAS MASTERED AND BARRIERS PUT DIRECTLY IN WARHOLS PATH BY BROW BEATEN ART CRITICS WAS CRUSHED,BECAUSE WARHOL GOT HIS REAR END OFF THE COUCH AND DID SOMETHING. I RATE THIS BOOK AS A 10 AND IS A MUST FOR STUDENTS OF PRINTMAKING AND MODERN ART.
SINCERELY PETRA
Triumph of Quantity.......2005-08-28
All the prints, those published and unpublished by Warhol. A lot of color and the layout is good. There's a good essay (by Donna De Salvo) to introduce what Warhol's printmaking was about.
As much as it may impress, seeing all these prints, unfortunately, conveys a Warhol on autopilot. The "machine" he spoke of wishing to be. Apart from a few famous themes Warhol's prints may represent a triumph of quantity over quality. Prints of many different contents but of the same mechanism, silkscreening, begin to look alike. The selection of images, initially striking in the few deservedly famous subjects (e.g. Marilyn, Jackie, the electric chair, flowers, self-portraits, the soup can, Mao), seems mostly mundane, perhaps tacky. No artist has perhaps created so much forgettable work. But the diversity holds the promise of leading you (and me) beyond any initial limiting set of favorites. Warhol attacked from many directions.
After all, how much I'd like to have Marilyns or his flowers on my walls, to begin with. You have plenty to pick from in this book: even finding ten great images may be worthwhile. And, over time, as you change, your favorite Warhol prints may change.
At the back of the book are a chronology and exhibition history which focus on the prints. At almost 400 large pages using excellent paper, this good value is made to stay. Nevertheless, one is left wondering whether the drive to create or the drive for wealth was stronger.
i love it.........2003-11-10
its a really great display of andy warhol's work.. theres alot of unprinted art work in the book as well.. its great i really enjoyed it. when i picked it up at the book store i sat down and flipped through it, and i liked it so much i flipped though it two more times after that. i love warhol's work, and i've seen some great books but this one is by far the most amazing. if your a die hard andy warhol fan, i totally reccomend this book.
Customer Reviews:
Directed at the expert, fine for the fan, too!.......2002-12-04
I would like to add to the reviews below that this book is a pleasure to hold and to view because it is so well made. If there is any 'art' book that should be made for posterity it is the catalog raisonne of an artist. In this instance, the publisher has done the artist's audience a real service for, the book is beautifully printed and bound in Italy by Amilcare Pizzi; Italy seeming to have usurped Switzerland's place as the world's premier art book printer. The pages are thick and glossy and the reproduction is top notch.
For those of you who are unaware of what a catalog raisonne is, it is meant to be a compilation and historical record of an artist's work that documents execution date, medium, size of image or plate, size of edition if a print, whether signed or unsigned, etc. This information is used by artists, historians, collectors and dealers to attribute a piece of art and place it in the artist's oevre, and of course to aid in placing relative value on it. Here too, the archivists, publisher, and editor have done a fine job of documenting the relevant facts. This is especially important in the case of Warhol who was a serial printer, sometimes to the point of intentional promiscuity. So, the fact that wherever possible relevant information is provided speaks volumes about the prodigious effort that must have gone into this undertaking. I rate this book four stars because I fear that since this is the third edition, there will be yet another edition published that renders this one obsolete. I understand this is precisely because Warhol was an inprecise documentarian, when he chose to do so at all, but I don't relish having to purchase another high dollar, though valuable book that is only slightly different from the one I already own. For people who don't give a darn, the book rates a five.
Andy Warhol Prints.......2001-11-03
This 3rd edition of Andy Warhol Prints gives much information to someone who is interested in the various published and unpublished works which Warhol created. In addition to providing color photographs of the prints, the book gives details about the edition size and characteristics of each individual portfolio. This book will be quite useful for the Warhol fan, art students, as well as collectors of Warhol's work. It is the most definitive book of his prints available.
Definitive Guide to Warhol.......2000-05-23
Prints, proofs, paintings -- everything is here, plus essays that explicate and set context.
The best catalog of Andy's Prints.......1998-06-15
This gem of a book gets into all the details of Warhol's print making. See source images as well as artist's and printer's proofs. A must for any collector wanting to explore Warhol's work as well as a real eye opener as to how busy this man really kept himself.
Customer Reviews:
Attractive book, but..........2006-08-08
This book was very attractively laid out.It has a pleasing design. I had a giggle at some of the quotes. I'll give it credit for that. But this book included some nasty, unverified , untrue rumors about Elvis and James Dean and I find that offensive. I wonder how well they researched Jimmy in particular because Pier Angeli was left totally out of his list of Girlfriends and everybody knows she was the love of his life.Because of all that, I can only give it 3 stars.
Tricky, but Fun.......2002-05-08
Okay, who's had whom in Hollywood?--maybe not the most burning question of the day, but of particular interest to those alive and breathing before the tell-all mags of today. Naturally, a book like this can only be taken seriously by backing up its claims, otherwise its just nasty gossip and who condones that--Right? Here, author Mart Martin plays a pretty canny game. Each male celebrity gets a full page of formatted headings profiling his sex life, including personal observations, comments from others, a brief history, and an all-important naming-names list of backstage romps. There's an extensive bibliography of mainly biographies and autobiographies from which, it appears, the primary material was drawn. There are no footnotes however, and though the comments are attributed by name, the crucial lists are not. Instead, they appear under the weasely heading 'Lovers, Flings, or Just Friends'. Thus, Nick Adams, for example, can appear in the notoriously homophobic Elvis Presley's scorecard without Martin getting hauled into court. Juicy--but not exactly binding. What the guidelines are for these bi-sexual inclusions only the author knows. Still and all, the comments from collegues and romantic interests are often a caustic hoot--Judith Campbell on Jerry Lewis, 'Although he is serious about his flirting, from a woman's point of view it is funnier than his pratfalls', Liberace on himself, 'Men are my kind of people'. Chances are you'll find your favorites among the 201 even if you don't want to. My only remaining questions are : when did scorecard denizens like Joan Crawford, Marilyn Monroe, or Mae West find time to make movies or Truman Capote to write books; and also, why is a photo of '2001: A Space Odyssey' actor William Sylvester presented as the Shah of Iran?--and who is that straight-haired inebriate pretending to be the kinky-haired Nicholas Ray? Come on, Mr. Martin, if we can't trust the photos, what about the text. Still, I couldn't put it down.
Mart Martin writes another great book!!!!.......2000-12-08
Mart Martin has succeeded in writing a book that is as thoroughly researched and interesting as "Did She Or Didn't She?" This time he turns his attention to the men and presents a sometimes humorous and always interesting portrait of the intimate lives of 201 famous men.
