Book Description
It was a time of crisis, a time of tragedy--and a time of transcendent courage and determination. Leon Uris's blazing novel is set in the midst of the ghetto uprising that defied Nazi tyranny, as the Jews of Warsaw boldly met Wehrmacht tanks with homemade weapons and bare fists. Here, painted on a canvas as broad as its subject matter, is the compelling of one of the most heroic struggles of modern times.
Customer Reviews:
Incredibly powerful.......2007-06-23
I received this book as a gift. At time of reading, I had no knowledge of Uris as an author. I am a British national now residing in the US. I have no religious belief.
The book gripped me to the extent that I read it through the night, getting no sleep. I was gripped by a need to know what would happen next to the characters, whose names I still clearly remember 15 years after reading the book. The enormity of the terror within the ghetto was built very subtly. The reality of the characters' situation only hit me when I closed the book after turning the final page -- then I cried. No other book I have read, before or since, has come close to creating the emotional impact of this masterpiece.
Irrespective of your beliefs or sentiments or prejudices, this work is a must-read.
Inspiring.......2007-03-26
I read this book first when I was in 6th grade (It's dense, I wouldn't necessarily say you can convince a 6th grader to read it)
I never left my living room for a week - I poured through it and read it twice. Though the details are lost with me now, the images and dreams about fighting for a cause have been inspiring for me. Today when I feel inundated by the world, I look back and think of the protagonists that went against the flow, offered resistance when their peers spoke of complacence. This novel for me is about courage and honor, understanding what is right and fighting for it. I look forward to ordering it here and reading it again, ten years later.
David vs Goliath-type Story.......2007-03-09
Great story about the Jewish resistance movement in World War II. Although, the characters are fictional, Uris, is such a gifted artist, that he makes you care about them, as they simply struggle to survive on a handful of bread or a handful of bullets. The soap-opera-style of bouncing back and forth between the main characters works because it only strenghtens the drama and builds the tension. Also, the characters are not cookie-cutter good or bad stereotypes; there are many shades of ethics and motivations among the Jewish resistance, the Nazis, the Poles, and the general population.
Although it is a fictional account, the events depicted were real. And it does make one think - had I been thrust into a similar situation, how would I react?
Mila 18.......2006-09-28
Mila 18 is the most fabulous story of courage and daring I have ever read. I have read it over and over again during the years, and with each reading I can't put it down. I have long studied the Holocaust, and the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in particular, and Leon Uris's Mila 18 could be used as a textbook on the subject, so accurately is the history portrayed. If I could recommend one book, only one, to teach people about courage, honor, dignity, compassion, love -- this would be it. The brief raising of the Hebrew flag over that small territory made me cry as no sappy love story ever could. In this age of Hollywood filming epic historical movies such as The Patriot, Titanic, etc., etc., this book should be done on a grand scale. However, I would say in departing, that the movie Uprising, which I believe was a made for tv movie, is grander and more epic, more historically true, as well as every bit as thrilling, as any movie I've ever seen.
Excellent Education on the Holocaust.......2006-03-23
My fiance got me this book for my birthday. I always thought I was educated on what happened during the Holocaust. Even though this is a fiction book, I think the basic idea is true and these things really did happen. What a shock! But a really great book and I could hardly put it down. All the people seemed real. And it made it educational yet enjoyable to read.

Richard Marinick grew up running with the Southie gangs during the Whitey Bulger era, and learned to write during a ten-year prison stretch. He writes what he knows, and his shattering, utterly authentic first novel, Boyos is the result.
Customer Reviews:
Authentic, raw, real, and fascinating portrayal.......2007-10-03
I'm from Southie (although not from the same era as the author) and I found his work to be a well written and accurate description of what Southie hard guys are like. Marinick adeptly portrayed the variagated nature of Southie criminals: the drug adaled, the sharp and resourceful (Wacko Curran), and the vicious, greedy types of criminals that Southie has produced. And, with the Irish gangsters, there's alway humor in the midst of their lawbreaking.
If a reader wants a look at what life was like for some criminals from the "Good Will Hunting" setting, read this book. I've known some of the real life characters that Marinick writes about and I recognize them in his words.
Marinick is a talented writer with an insight into a dark, dangerous, and intriguing segment of criminal life. But not only that: he shows that Wacko has a love in his life and she means more to him than dominance in Southie's criminal world. That was an excellent subplot.
Buy it, read it. It's well worth the effort if you want an look at why South Boston has such a grip on America's interest ("Good Will Hunting," "The Departed"). For nonfiction Southie books (although, I have to believe that Marinick's work has a basis in real life), I'd reccomend "A Criminal and an Irishman," by Pat Nee. He has a straightforward, honest (for a criminal) manner that is very disarming and entertaining. I could see Nee and Wacko Curran having a beer together.
Good effort .......2007-03-29
I liked the pace of this book. Now that I know that this is his first book, I look forward to following up on how he develops characters outside of a crime familiy syndicate. Overall, I thought the book was easy to follow but it had a few areas where the plot became disjointed. As someone that knows the streets of Boston, I enjoyed the frequent references to routes that were driven although some are not as easy to navigate or have gone away due to construction.
Good try out of the box. I look forward to the next one...
Vivid, but somewhat sentimental and weakly plotted.......2006-06-24
Marinick does an excellent job of creating a scene and catching the rhythms of a certain kind of colloquial speech and conversation. He is a writer with a strong natural talent, if he can learn to discipline it and not become distracted by details that are peripheral to the plot. The hard-boiled detective novel of course thrives on gritty detail, but sometimes (as in the endless descriptions of different cars, kinds of guns, and street routing) Marinick tries the reader's patience.
He also does a good job of introducing a cast of characters. The relationship between the protagonist Jack ("Wacko") Curran and his brother Kevin is especially well handled, revealing how the deep bond between the two brothers clouds the judgement of the elder and how the younger one's cocaine addiction draws him toward a sordid final act.
Other relationships are less well drawn. Wacko's soft spot for the conventional girl-next-door, copper-haired Elaine is a case in point. Only one of many examples: "She smelled like vanilla beans, he lingered, his face in her curls for a moment." Give me a break. A hard-boiled hero can be allowed a weakness for a dame, but this kind of writing is more soup than nuts.
Marinick has set up his hero for future adventures. It remains to be seen if he has more than one book in him. If he does, he will likely develop as a writer with greater control over plot and character. This first novel is still worth reading for the vivid world it creates.
Five star review for a first time author.......2006-02-11
Fast paced, a tight and intricate plotline and with a varied cast of characters Richard Marinick scores five stars for his first novel 'Boyos'. Unlike many crime novels published these days 'Boyos' doesn't fall into the trap of trying to be a synopsis for a movie. The characters are true to life, low life to be more accurate and the author obviously has a detailed understanding of the Irish American take on crime families. The book isn't without a couple of faults, though. The anti-hero, Jack Curran, could do with a little more character development to put some flesh on his bones, there are occasional passages in the book which have more detail than is required by plot and the frequent references to the songs playing on the radio become something of an irritation after a while and don't really contribute to either the sense of time and place or atmosphere of the scene. Overall the book is a great addition to the crime genre, avoids many of the usual pitfalls of the gangster novel and is a satisfying read.
Solid.......2006-02-02
Authentic feel to this first novel by a state trooper gone bad. It's the details that sell this book. He's been there and done that. Southie again.

Definitely not a standalone book.......2004-01-07
This book is well-written, and the story carries the reader along. However, the book should not be bought or sold alone, it's part of a trilogy. I've only read the first book, and I was left feeling quite unsatisfied at the conclusion. While I am glad that there are later volumes in this trilogy, I do wish that the author had written a more satisfying ending to the first book. If the book had had a good conclusion, I would have rated it at four or five stars.
Lovely light-hearted fantasy.......1997-10-16
This is a wonderful start to a trilogy that turns out to be something very different. Jazen is your everyday John Doe, he works the forge, has no prospects for the future, and thinks he's going insane because of the imps he see's in the fire. But when a small group of travelling exorcists come alone, he decides to follow them, and it changes his life. He is taken to the capital city of Mirlacca, where he learns how to do basic fire magic, and ends up saving the city from a demon. The Fountains of Mirlacca gives you a steady background from which you can experiance the next two WONDERFUL books in this series.

Must Reading For All Who Deal With Bipolar.......2007-06-27
Very beneficial for those who deal with bipolar. Lets us know that what we deal with is "normal" for those dealing with the disorder.
What a nightmare!.......2007-02-22
God bless Judy Eron for sharing what she experienced and learned during her bipolar husband's manic episode. I bought this book for some friends, a long-time married couple who have dealt with bipolar disorder for many years. After giving it a favorable review, they loaned it back to me. I was eager to read it, hoping it would help me understand what they've been going through.
Well, what a nightmare. For me, the most terrifying thing about this story is that the author and her husband were both mental health professionals! If _they_ didn't know what to do, how in the world would the rest of us be able to recognize or deal with someone going through this?!
There's no happy ending or quick fixes here, but Eron helps us understand a manic person's distorted way of thinking, how it's important not to get drawn into that person's (paranoid) delusions, and what strategies may or may not be helpful. For example, I was surprised that an "intervention," which would have seemed an obvious choice to me, in fact only fed her husband's anger and paranoia and pushed him farther away from accepting help.
I used to think that manic meant really happy. Now, sadly, I know better.
Must Come Down ..........2007-02-06
This open and sharing book "What Goes up ... Surviving the Manic Episode of a Loved One", is a brave offering that should be read by anyone who cares for any of these poor souls; we all need any help we can get; they need even more.
This is a very well written story of one couple's struggle with bipolar illness that is compared and contrasted with other examples as the author tries to make sense of the madness or at least find out how to best deal with it.
I can (personally) only add that every case and every episode (up or down) is unique and nothing is certain until it's too late but as long as there is life there is hope.
Even after thirty years with a bipolar relative, I still learned many things from this book. I highly recommend it for every person who has loved one who suffers from this illness. But, do not stop there, because there are risks of overmedication and differences with the change of life that women go through that can bring out other aspects of the illness.
I have not listed many details from this book because if you need to read it, then you need to read it all; and more.
Thank you Judy Eron, for bravely sharing.
Bipolar Disorder - A Caregiver's Story.......2007-01-01
The author tells the story of her husband's year-long manic episode and finally his depression and suicide. She tells us of the agony of their separation, her thoughts and feelings at the time, the decisions she made and why she made them. With the benefit of hindsight she points out errors and how she might have handled things better. She tells a moving story in a well written and very readable way, illustrated with notes from her journal. Those caring for a loved one with bipolar disorder will find comfort in this book, assurance that they are not alone, and practical suggestions for how to maintain their own sanity while helping their loved one.
INSPIRING!.......2006-10-30
A powerful and honest account of life in a manic episode from the point of view of a loving spouse. I found "What Goes Up" to be a great inspiration for me, as a spouse of someone plagued with bipolar disorder. I have felt resposible at times and victimized other times, it is a tortourous place and a very lonely place. This book galvanized my fight and inner strength! Thanks Judy for having the strength to write this book! I recommend this book to anyone who has a loved one struggling with this illness.

Exotic, flavorful dishes, easy to prepare.......2005-01-27
The Fenugreek Chicken(Murg Methi)is my absolute favorite. This dish is so flavorful and the spice combinations are very soothing for digestion. I accompanied this with the cucumber Raita and the Potatoes & Cauliflower sides, it was outstanding!
Great introduction to Indian cuisine.......2003-09-01
Echoing another reviewer, this is by no means a comprehensive examination of Indian cuisine. The cuisines of southern India tend to be neglected in favor of more familiar Mughal recipes. Smita Chandra addresses regional cooking more equitably in her "Cuisines of India." Also, the recipes contained in "From Bengal to Punjab" are not grand recipes that would be served as a centerpiece at a banquet; they are simple, basic recipes which are easy to make but not dazzling.
If you keep that in mind, you will find this a most satisfying cookbook, which will introduce you to the basic components and techniques of Indian cooking. I have used this cookbook for over 10 years, and have always been happy with the results.
The cookbook is inexpensive, well laid out, and the recipes are very easy to follow. There are virtually no ingredients in these recipes that you cannot find in most good urban market these days, which reflects the rising popularity of ethnic cuisines. If you are interested in learning the basics of Indian cuisine, then this is a very good cookbook to use for that purpose.
A good book for the beginner only.......2003-06-29
This book is well written and organized (as one would expect from this author) and I'm not sorry I bought it, but it is not a star of my collection. The beginner will find it an excellent overview and introduction to east Indian cuisine, but it provides very little that is new for the serious collector of Indian cookbooks.
Excellent Indian Cuisine.......2002-06-28
This book is absolutely excellent. You will need some specialty spices, but each recipe is easy to follow and produces fabulous results. I've had this cookbook for about a year and have not found a single recipe that I didn't like. Don't expect this food to be the watered-down generic version - these recipes are spicy, flavorful and exciting.
Delicious Indian cuisine at home!.......2002-02-22
Three years ago, I purchased this book wishing to recreate dishes that I had at local Indian restaurants and to save money. I got more than I bargained for! Since then I bought several other Indian cookbooks, but I cook from this book most often. I no longer need to go to restaurants to taste Indian cuisine because I can cook better! Everything I cooked so far were delicious; I have impressed my Indian friends! Legume and vegetable sections are especially good for people who wants to have more vegetables in their diet and enjoy them too. I think many recipes are from northern India. Ms. Chandra gives menu suggestions and how to vary a dish with her charming writing style. Thank you Mrs. Chandra!

Comprehensive shoe guide.....But please boycott Amazon...........2007-08-11
This is an extremely comprehensive guide to glass shoes. I love that the pictures are so clear, and the descriptions make it easy to identify important distinctions among the various shoes presented.
I'm boycotting Amazon because I just learned (after purchasing this book) that they're the only online bookseller left that is selling dog fighting and cockfighting magazines and videos. These magazines advertise the sale of fighting animals and cockfighting weapons -- sales made illegal by federal law.
I understand freedom of speech, but although I find those products "objectionable" (Amazon's word) and disgusting (my word), the issue is that the First Amendment doesn't protect companies advertising illegal contraband, and that's exactly what the magazines sold by Amazon are doing. I urge you to contact Amazon and ask them to stop selling these products. Thank you.

Book Description
Cold-moulded wood boatbuilding involves bonding together layers of wood veneers or thin planks to make a strong, lightweight and watertight hull. Modern glues, particularly epoxy resins, have recently given cold-moulding a boost and improved its strength for weight and longevity. Strip-planking is a related technique using narrow strips of wood. This book is a practical guide to both methods , staring from the design requirements, necessary tools and working conditions, and choice of lumber through step-by-step construction and repair.
Customer Reviews:
Cold-Molded and Strip-Planked Wood boatbuilding.......2007-01-06
Great book. Takes you through the process and all the thoughts and tricks of doing it right. Not rocket science, but very helpful and confirming of your ability to do this. Good pictures and examples.
Info good, Difficult read.......2001-03-01
The basic information on technique is helpful; however the author uses some odd language for the american reader. It takes some getting used to. For example he uses the word rebate instead of the wood working term rabbet and he says cramps for/or clamps for no apparent reason. He also barely hides his distain for strip planked hulls.
Misleading Title.......2001-02-04
This book is really about cold-molded boatbuilding. There is little useful information about strip-planked methods. He pays cursory attention to it in some chapters, and always at the end, as an afterthought. I am still looking for a good book on strip-planking.
If you are interested in cold-molding or double-diagonal type applications, this book is technical and thorough. Useful as a reference. Buy it thinking of the title as "Cold-Moulded Wood Boat Building, With an Afterword on Strip-Planked Methods"
Comprehensive, detailed coverage of material........1999-06-03
I highly recommend this book for anyone considering either or both of these construction methods. The author's experience shows in breath and depth of the subjects addressed in this book. I enjoyed the knowledgable way he writes of determining scantings, deck-to-hull details, and the laminating process itself. The detailed text is accompanied by excellent drawings and illustrations of the author's points. The author's Continental orientation is evident from the boats selected for illustration. The author goes into all facets of building using these methods, including mold building and backbone setup. If you wish to learn about the details and practical issues of using these methods, this is an excellent addition to your library.

Clearly, finding the right bedPlatform or canopy? Four-poster or sleigh?is crucial for any bedroom. But as this book makes clear, a comfortable mattress and a stylish frame are just the starting points in designing a multi-purpose bedroom in which to sleep, relax, dress, eat breakfast, or exercise. Organized into ten chapters focusing on a single subject (lighting, color, texture), the book breaks down otherwise complex topics in ways that are accessible and easy to absorb. Each chapter begins with a basic overview, followed by room "tours" told through sumptuous photos and explanatory text. Particularly useful are the two-page spreads called "Find Your Style" which help readers determine which approachesSubtle or brave color? Soft or vibrant lighting?will work best for how they plan to use their rooms. Whether you're designing a romantic boudoir, a guest bedroom doubling as an office, or a siesta space at a summer cottage, Pottery Barn Bedroomsoffers the necessary tools to make the planning and execution as easy as possible. --David Bombeck

Buy it used.......2007-07-03
I am glad I bought this used as I did not feel it was worth full price. The rooms are all the same. Not much inspiration. If you like color (at least more than off white, tan, light blue and cream) than this book is definitely not for you.
Pottery Barn in Neutral.......2007-03-22
Décor is a very personal thing, which probably accounts for the widely divergent reactions of readers of this book - they either love it or hate it.
A small design team have selected and completely decorated, with Pottery Barn furnishings and accessories, 24 rooms, large and small, in homes of varying types, including a Victorian townhouse, small cottages, farmhouses, a saltbox, a ranch house and a modern home inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright design -- in what amounts to variations on a single theme - simplicity, informality, tranquility.
The décor of each room complements the character of its setting, reinforcing it with restraint & subtlety, without being obvious or overwhelming. There are plenty of props, artefacts and accessories to add interest but nothing cutesy or kitsch, and the overall impression is of simple comfort.
Personally, I love this book, but I can see how some people might be put off by its limited colour schemes and understated style. People who are not fond of beige will probably not be happy with the book. A more apt title might have been "Pottery Barn in Neutral". The emphasis - which may be due to the designer's bias -- is on warm neutrals - ecru, linen, cream, sand, taupe, honey, butterscotch or camel. There is lots of light, in white or cream painted walls, furniture and woodwork, in white sheets and matelasse or in sunlight filtered through sheer curtains.
When there is colour, the palettes are often subdued: watery blue, chambray, celadon, muted reds or sienna. Colors are also neutralized by combining with white or cream in checks, toile, pinstripes, quilts, woven rugs or cabana-stripe Roman shades.
You won't find any formality here, no moiré wallpaper, no brocade or satin or tapestry bedspreads, no black, royal blue or emerald green, no loud colours or sharp contrasts.
My favourite room in the book (except for a rusty old iron bedstead which I would have freshly repainted in bronze) is done almost entirely in winter-white and cream, right down to the white painted floor boards, and accented by colourful cushions and bed-skirt of red plaid taffeta. I find it reminiscent of old-fashioned English country cottage and the whites & pastels of Swedish country.
I can hardly wait to adapt some of those ideas to that attic room I've been renovating.
Pottery Barn Bedrooms (Pottery Barn Design Library) .......2005-10-07
GREAT book and great series (all the Pottery Barn Design Library books)! I have an interior design background, and this series is the best I've ever read --- great design and storage ideas that are easy to do and the ideas are multi-faceted, so you could use in another room, etc.
Look elsewhere for inspiration.......2004-08-27
I have read/used three of the Pottery Barn books listed in order of my opinion of them: Baths, Living Rooms, and Bedrooms. Baths was very good, with beautiful photographs, interesting and innovative ideas, and some useful design advice. Most of the book provided a several page showcase for an individual bath with discussion of what made it special.
Living rooms was OK. It's content was more canned, but it still had some inspiration and enough ideas that were useful that although I would not put it amongst the best such books, it was worth an hour or two to browse.
Bedrooms hit the bottom of the list for me. The content seemed especially canned. The ideas were not fully developed and most of them appeared to me more appropriate to someone's first apartment than an established home (so it just needs the right audience?). Lot's of the pictures involved just using eclectic pieces and did not involve actually developing a decorative theme.
Look elsewhere for that "Pottery Barn" inspiration........2004-04-09
I love Pottery Barn and have managed over the years to purchase their furniture and a handful of their accessories. They have wonderful ideas (that can be pulled off with a fraction of the price if you look around) that are fun to try and unique. But if you are looking to find that inspiration, don't count on this book. I find that I can get better ideas straight from their catalog instead.....and that is free! Their ideas bordered on boring and not real conducive to everyday use. I plan to stick with the catalog after being disappointed with all of their books in the set.

Book Description
No-copy advertising does exactly what it says - promotes, publicises and sells without the use of words. Using examples from television, billboard, print and the Internet, Lazar Ozamic examines an intriguing variety of ads from the international arena. The unique relationship between consumer and brand - formed and developed by this method of advertising - is discussed, and (no)copywriters talk about their approach.

Brilliant- a must for art directors and COPYWRITERS.......2004-09-30
As a professional copywriter giving a positive review to this book might seem like professional suicide, but to be a copywriter is to develop strong CONCEPTS. Part of that is accepting the responsibility of using words effectively on behalf of your client - and sometimes that means using no words at all.
Really, this book is a collection of brilliant concepts that happen not to need much, if any, copy. It's as a conceptual book that this collection of work really shines.
Also, the concepts are diverse enough that they don't become boring or predictable, unlike some other collections that confine themselves to one medium or style of advertising, i.e. outdoor, television or "sex sells" photography.
I have to admit there is a minute amount of copy in some of these ads, but always less than a sentence. Plus, I think a tiny minority of these concepts would have been stronger communications with a hint more of copy.
All of that said, it's a book that every copywriter, art director or person who like to think of themselves as "creative" should have on their shelves.
I'd even go so far as to say that's it's more useful to have this book than the most recent One Show and it's a heck of a lot cheaper - and less likely to disappear.
An Art Director's Visual Bible.......2002-05-07
A must see (not read) for any art director working in a creative environment. Filled with great conceptual work.

It's tough to categorize Sandra Bernhard's book of semi-autobiography, philosophy, and quasifactual showbiz gossip. The book partly overlaps with her stage show and CD I'm Still Here Damn It! but it reads like the diary of a sensitive soul with a teensy mean streak. "Barbra Streisand won't let you photograph the right side of her face.... If we finally see it, are we just going to scream?" Bernhard writes. "Kris Kristofferson must have been nipping at the bottle during A Star Is Born to fake the hots for Barbra." The title is simply what her drunk housepainter begged of her one day. ("Everybody used him--Melanie, Cindy, Candy, Caroline, Mimi," writes Bernhard, unconsciously echoing her appearance in Bret Easton Ellis's novel Glamorama: "The whole gang is usually there. Cindy, Linda, Kate, the Sandras--Bullock, Bernhard, and Gallin.") She devotes many pages to literary air kisses at stars: the chapter titled "Barry White for McDonald's" consists of one sentence: "I was a vegetarian until I heard Barry's sexy ad." Bernhard confesses her biggest alleged regret (losing a thank-you note from Jacqueline Kennedy and a letter of apology from Jerry Lewis for making fun of her lips on the set of The King of Comedy) and pens tender odes to Brenda Vaccaro and Kurt Cobain, a script idea for Pam Grier, and poems with more vigorous rhythms than Jewel's: "I was always shy, never knew how to relate / But when I get behind a cocktail I leave everything to fate." Bernhard's book is slight, but highly original. --Tim Appelo
Book Description
Fragile, raw, daring, brilliant...Sandra Bernhard rocks. The actress, philospher, comedian, and cult goddess is definitely back -- and feeling fabulous -- with a labor of love that'll knock her followers off their feet and draw new ones to her like a magnet.
Stage, film, music, television -- in every performance, Bernhard has shocked and amused, titillated and broken every rule. With her first two books, Confessions of a Pretty Lady and Love, Love, and Love Bernhard's electrifying talent took to the page and burned it up with flashes of true brillance -- the kind of writing that separates the powerful from the good. And now, in this new book, Sandra returns with a deeply personal collection of spicy tales, fiercely witty riffs, and sweet doses of wisdom.
Here is Sandy as we know and love her -- and as we've never quite seen her before: heartrenderingly honest, with the mouth of a diva, the soul of a fighter, and the insight of a girl who has lived life big. Like a whisper in your ear, Sandy opens up her world: from her friendship with her loyal housepainter to her imagined history as as one of Jack Kennedy's lovers; from the sensual streets of Mogador to the comfort of her pristine L.A. bungalow; from her own poetry of romantic yearning and reflective prayer to dead-on truths brought to light in the heartbreaking and hilarious glow of fashion, celebrity, rock and spirituality.
There is nothing Sandra Bernhard offers that doesn't deliver a pungent snap of truth and the surprise of unexpected emotion in this, her most revealing and entertaining book yet.
Fragile, raw, daring, brilliant...Sandra Bernhard rocks. The actress, philospher, comedian, and cult goddess is definitely back -- and feeling fabulous -- with a labor of love that'll knock her followers off their feet and draw new ones to her like a magnet.
Customer Reviews:
Unique Celebrity.......2000-06-18
Sandra Bernhard stands on her own. She is different, outspoken, and unafraid to be that way. That's why I love her.
This book is like an edgy "Chicken Soup for the soul" by Sandra. Some parts are hilarious--her incident with Oprah; some are touching--her views on love.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants a laugh and a unique perspective.
A pretty lady writes a pretty good book.......2000-02-22
Sandra Bernhard doesn't have that good a reputation in the real world (by the "real world" I mean the world outside my own), but I swear to God that this pretty lady is smart--very smart. "May I Kiss You on the Lips Miss Sandra" is proof. It is well written and very, very funny. It is the kind of book you don't want to read in public because you will laugh out loud and look like a total nimrod. Sandra writes like she performs: with energy, style and the ability to choose the perfect word that will leave you laughing for days.
She has proven that being bitter can be...well...FUN........1999-08-13
Head for the couch and relax; make a big mug of any tisane or coffee; put on some wallpaper CD and get ready to laugh and to cry and yes! purge your emotions. Sandra Bernhard has once again taken an honest look at the world and embraced what is really cool and really good, and damned to hell what is really bad and itchy. Her book is like a stream of conciousness that just doesn't let up. Each time I finish something by her; be it a book; or a CD; a movie; and especially a date with her at the theatre ... I leave saying: "Now why can't I have friends like that in my world?" "Am I the only one who pays attention anymore?" All the best Miss Sandra; I wish you were one of my best friends. Bravo Dahhhling!
Wild, Funny, Original, Uninhibited & Fresh like Sandra!.......1999-05-26
I got this book as a gift and I loved it! Sandra's writing was daring like a drunken cowgrrl riding bareback backwards in a purple vinyl catsuit! Fun and unpredictable!
More genius from Sandra Bernhard.......1998-12-01
She returns to discuss all the subjects that really matter: love, life and Stevie Nicks, who pops up in three different vignettes. With some material culled from her recent show "I'm Still Here Damn It" (The remarkable "Jazzy Spider" and "Courtney Love") and mostly new material, Sandy has one of her finest literary moments. (Don't miss her accompanying CD, "I'm Still Here Damn It")
