Audrina Adare wanted so to be as good as her sister. She knew her father could not love her as he loved her sister. Her sister was so special, so perfect -- and dead.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent...the creepiest book V.C. Andrews ever wrote..........2006-12-16
This is a true V.C. Andrews novel, one of the few she actually wrote before the ghostwriter took over in 1987. It has many twists and turns and is full of chills, demented characters, weird sex, and of course, death.
Audrina Adare is having trouble keeping track of time. For that matter, she cannot remember her past. But she keeps having nightmares and flashbacks of another girl like herself...and she'll soon find out that all of this makes sense, and that the truth will be more terrifying than she could've ever imagined.
Are you ready for a good scare and nightmares of your own? Read this complex and amazing book.
4.5 Stars-- nearly flawless.......2006-08-22
Never having read any of V.C. Andrew's work I was both skeptical and curious when her name kept appearing during searches for "gothic horror" type literature. What I found in My Sweet Audrina was something terrifying, engrossing, and very psychologically complex; to the point of having teh story stay with me long after I finished the last page.
Audrina Whitefern is a young girl who doesn't go to school, has no friends, and is constantly under the watchful eye of her overprotective father. Secondly, Audrina is not the first young girl in the Whitefern family by such a pretty name--but the second, after her older sister, the much reverred "First Audrina" was killed in the woods near their home.
Everyone in the family knows the secret surrounding the First Audrina' death. In addition to the second Audrina and her father, they are also joined by her mother, aunt, and cousin Vera. Each of them also knows the secret, something so horrifying and unbelievable you won't want to be spoiled until you discover it for yourself.
And as the second Audrina begins to question her past, her life, and the strange happenings around their gloomy victorian mansion, the secret is unveiled, and nothing will ever be the same. This tale of stifling parental love, rape and abuse, and lies and deceit all comes together in the end, leaving the reader with a haunting conclusion that ensures the legacy of Whitefern will continue.
Maybe the worst I've ever read..........2006-06-24
But at least it's entertaining. This is the story of a typically dull V.C. Andrews-type heroine who lives with her gorgeous mother, handsome, overprotective father, bitter aunt and evil cousin in a victorian mansion somewhere in the south. The aunt and mother drink tea all day, the father spends most of his time at his job, and Audrina plays with paper dolls while cousin Vera torments her and masturbates while reading romance novels. A long time ago, Audrina's perfect, beautiful sister was raped and killed. Since then, her parents have devoted thier lives to protecting Audrina from the outside world. One day, Audrina wanders outside and meets a boy named Arden and his mother, Billie, who live in a cabin behind her. They become friends, and Audrina starts sneaking outside to see him. Daminan, the father, soon catches her, and is angry at first, but after meeting the boy, lets the friendship continue. Audrina's life changes from there. Tragedy and romance ensue. As the title suggests, this is one of the worst books I've ever read. The story does not contain one shred of plausibility. It also suffers from dull, unlikeable charectors, just like Flowers in The Attic did. You know things are bad when your rooting for the evil cousin. Audrina is so beautiful, perfect and inncocent and most off all flat that you can't stand her. Arden came off as being just as annoyingly perfect. Things start off very slowly, with mainly descriptions of the charectors, "creepy" mansion and the tragedy of the death of the "first" Audrina and Damians obsession over it biding our time before something finally happens. Things start rolling once the mother dies, and I admit that I couldn't put it down after this heartbreaking development, even though I was able to predict nearly every twist it had to offer. The book jacket plays up on the whole idea of Damian wanting to turn Audrina into her dead sister, and generally makes it seem likes its going to be alot more creepy than it really is. This wanting-to-turn-Audrina-into-her-dead-sister horror story-type thing only takes up a short amount of the book in the beginning. The rest of the story is a rather average, though addictive family & romance drama. I reccomend it if you want a entertaining, trashy drama/romance novel tinged with mystery and horror and charectors you love to hate.
well written and sweet........2006-06-10
This book tells the tale of a very unusual young girl who begs for her fathers' love.He father, however, gave more love to her dead sister that her.
This book reveals so much that it is difficult to put in words. All I can say is that it is a tale of love, fantasy, lust, desire, romance, drama, suspense and the techniques that the writer uses is brilliant it would definitely blow you away.It clearly shows how she grows up and what she faces while doing so...enjoy...Nigel
A Great Book, Never Forgotten.......2006-06-08
I read this many years ago, and have never forgot its impact on me. It was interesting, spooky, and sexy. I enjoyed this book alot, and would read it over again if I had a copy on hand! I highly recommend this book!

So-So.......2007-01-03
I enjoyed the first book in this series, but this one disappointed me.
For some reason, it just couldn't hold my interest for more than a few minutes at a time, and a book that would normally take me a day or two to read took nearly two weeks.
I found Molly and her friends to be annoying and silly, and all the talk of designer labels got on my nerves after awhile. I also found it ridiculous that Kyle would put up with Molly, both her annoying ways and her insistence on continuing to stick her nose into the investigation.
I honest can't say for sure if I'll read the next one. Chick lit should be fun...it shouldn't drag you down and make you feel like reading it is a chore.
A Life Well Lived.......2006-12-21
"Killer Cocktail" is a wonderful combination of love, life, and the choices that we all have to make. Against a background of wealth and privelage, three lovely, educated women try to find their way through personal issues, family issues, and the reality that one of their brother's may end up on trial for killing his problimatic fiance.
If you love Kate Spade, Prada, and all things designer ... you will love this book!
'Killer Cocktail' bubbles like champagne..........2006-05-25
Advice Columnist Molly Forrester is way overdue for a vacation from her job at Manhattan glossy, Zeitgeist, as well as her confusing life and romantic relationship with NYPD homicide detective Kyle Edwards. So when the opportunity arises for her to head to Southampton with her two best friends - Cassady and Tricia - for a weekend of fun to celebrate Tricia's brother's engagement, she can't pass up the chance to getaway from it all. But Molly's plans of a little rest and relaxation are quickly dashed when, instead of finding a nice pitcher of margaritas by the pool, she discovers that the bride-to-be - Lisbet - has been found dead - poolside - and the biggest suspect in the case is none other than Tricia's brother - David. Given that the fight that took place between the two lovebirds just hours before the brides murder, it is thought to be a crime of passion. But Molly thinks otherwise. Now, the amateur sleuth must head back to the Big Apple, where she plans on following a trail of lies, sex, and streaming video of the bride-to-be before her grisly death, and figure out who the true murderer is, before David ends up behind bars. The only problem is that her boyfriend, Kyle Edwards, keeps getting way too involved in the case, and taking Molly's mind off of the clues she's already found. The other problem being that she's receiving threats that could leave her in the same position as Lisbet - dead.
Sheryl J. Anderson has done it again - woven a creative, hip, fun sequel to KILLER HEELS that is sure to please the amateur sleuth, SEX AND THE CITY crowd, and keep them coming back for more. As always, Anderson has blended the witty, different as night and day personalities of Molly and her two pals, Tricia and Cassady, to create a unique cast of characters who are easy to identify with, and enjoy from page to page. Sprinkled with fashion commentary on each page will keep the fashionistas happy, while the developing relationship between Molly and her on-the-rocks status with Kyle will bring a smile to the lips of romance readers. KILLER COCKTAIL bubbles like champagne, and will keep readers on edge waiting for the next installment into Molly's hectic - fashion-filled - life.

Killer Cocktail.......2006-05-21
If you're looking for a chick lit book type mystery you've found it. It's fast paced and fun until the last page.
Perfect to bring for a day at the beach or sitting by the pool.
Did not disappoint.......2006-05-09
Killer Cocktail was a great debut and Killer Cocktail (the second in the series) did not disappoint. Love the friendship between Molly and her friends and who wouldn't want a guy like Kyle in their lives? I can't wait for Killer Deal to come out in paperback!

Essential Reading for All Women.......2007-09-20
Women at every stage of life should read "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause", "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Pre-Menopause" and "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Breast Cancer". No one is too young or too old to read them. The late Dr. Lee had nothing to sell except the important information in the books. Of course everyone is an individual; naturally every statement won't apply to one and all, and that is OK. The books obviously are not a substitute for competent medical care; however, you make the best decisions when you have the most information. Incidentally, you may meet some people who have misinterpreted Dr. Lee's books and will say they advise women never use estrogen in any form. He strongly advised against the combination tablets that are made of Premarin with artificial progesterone. These are not bio-identical and have been proven dangerous in highly publicized studies, as Dr. Lee had said beforehand. Dr. Lee's outstanding contribution was in helping us understand the uses and benefits of natural progesterone cream, offering information you may not hear from your doctor ... this natural cream happens to be available over-the-counter. Unlike the synthetic prescribed forms, this cream has the same chemistry as that made by the body. It is derived from plants and is used transdermally for most effective results. It is a wonderful supplement for many women with many benefits but the key is that it stands alone in working to rebuild bone. Bone is automatically lost during the menopausal years and the progesterone was well-proven by Dr. Lee to work by his carefully documented studies over many years. Also excellent are the book "Menopause Without Medicine" by Linda Ojeda and the book "Smart Medicine for Menopause" and any other book by Sandra Cabot, M.D. Here's to good health and competent advice!
a must-have book!.......2007-09-16
I read the precursor to this book a few (OK, more) years ago - What Your Doctor May not Tell You About Premenopause - and it was absolutely wonderful. So I bought this book, and was not disappointed! The information and timely advice has changed the way I feel. Following it has given me new energy and brought my body (and life) back into balance. If you (or someone you love) is at, or preparing for, this stage of life, it's a must-read!
I learned a lot........2007-07-23
Fabulous book that I told my nurse practictioner about. Made sense to me. This book really explained the hormonal changes besides estrogen and causes of many of my symptoms. Worth the price.
Read if you are female (any age) or know someone who is........2007-04-19
As a man who cares deeply about his woman, I have an eye for other men who genuinely care for the well-being of women. That trait is evident in the author of this great book, and is my best reason for recommending it.
Please Be Careful - I Learned The Hard Way.......2007-02-03
Bio-identical hormones are not all they are cracked up to be. They have serious, dangerous impacts on the human body. Please, if you are going to try these, do your homework first. A growing number of women are experiencing lethal side effects. Some don't make it out the other side. I am one of the lucky ones - I survived the blood clots in my legs and two near-fatal, year-long illnesses connected with use of "natural" progesterone. Since that time, I have been contacted by scores of women who have suffered due to use of these hormones. I hope this information will be helpful to someone else, too. Please, safeguard your health - no one else is going to do it for you.

One of the best Chinese American cookbooks--a treasure.......2007-07-07
This is the cooking of my own childhood, and I'm very happy that Ken Hom has put these recipes into this very personal book. He includes anecdotes from his own childhood as well as those from other Chinese Americans. I use this cookbook regularly and have my own favorites. I agree with "Ms. Reese" that there tends to be an over-use of salt, but I simply reduce the amount of salt or cut it out altogether when soy sauce or other salty seasonings are used. For those who are nostalgic for the food of their Cantonese mothers and grandmothers I recommend two other titles: My Grandmother's Chinese Kitchen, by Eileen Yin-Fei LoMy Grandmother's Chinese Kitchen: 100 Family Recipes and Life Lessons and Every Grain of Rice, by Ellen Blonder and Annabel Low Every Grain of Rice: A Taste of Our Chinese Childhood in America. The former has old photos which parallel those in my own photo albums, and the later has beautiful illustrations. Both contain remembrances of growing up Chinese American.
Just like Mom's!!!.......2000-08-03
There is very little left to say about this book. I agree with all the glowing reviews and would like to add my 2 cents! Last year I gave my parents a copy of Grace Young's new book The Wisdom of a Chinese Kitchen. My father said thank you very much and he handed me this book and said this is real food for real people - and he was right! In this book the meals of my childhood have been replicated! Ken Hom gathers up an amazing treasury of recipes. They are easy to follow, not overly complicated, and offer an easy dose of comfort food.
Excellent; very authentic, easy, great Chinese cooking!!.......1999-05-10
The title of this cookbook is what attracted me to it in the first place. As a Chinese-American, I have rarely found - especially since I now live in a small New England town - excellent and authentic Chinese cooking that compares to what my mother used to make. And unfortunately, since she suffered a stroke last year, I've been unable to reproduce the many wonderful dishes she used to feed us, since she kept them all "in her head." Ken Hom's cookbook brought back wonderful memories. I have raved about this cookbook to my brothers and plan to make gifts of it. My Caucasian husband truly loves these recipes also. The first dish I made reminded us both so much of my mother's cooking that I almost cried. Hom's dishes are flavorful, delicious, authentic, and relatively easy to make. A trip to a Chinese market for some ingredients is required for many of the recipes, but it is well worth the trip! Anyone who loves quality Chinese cooking and finds the standard, Americanized, often tasteless dishes you get in so many "Chinese" restaurants unpalatable (unless you happen to be lucky enough to live in NYC, DC, or SF), will love this book! Please try it - this is what quality Chinese cooking is all about!!

Major Book Award for Ken Hom and BBC Worldwide
The prestigious Andre Simon Memorial Fund award for the best food book of 1998 was last night given to Ken Hom for his book "Easy Family Dishes: A memoir with recipes " published by BBC Worldwide last October. His editor Viv Bowler (Lifestyle Group, UK Region) accepted the award on his behalf.
This is the most prestigious cookery book award of the year - for which Ken has previously been short listed twice. Easy Family Dishes doubles as an autobiography and a cook book and tells the story of Ken's upbringing as a Chinese American in Chicago. Eighty-five cookery books were entered in all and the short-list included top names such as Nigel Slater, Madhur Jaffrey and Nigella Lawson. Josceline Dimbleby, who presented the award, described the book as beautifully written, endearing, informative and unique. Ken's book enters into the André Simon hall of fame.
Seamus Geoghegan, Director, Lifestyle Group, said: "This award is a testament not only to Ken's enormous writing and cooking talents, but also to the editorial expertise of Viv Bowler who worked so hard to get this title - a non TV tie-in which several other publishers were interested in. BBC Worldwide is often regarded exclusively as a TV tie-in publisher, but this proves that we can be just as successful with books that aren't linked to specific series. We have worked with Ken for over 15 years now and are delighted and proud to be the publishers of the first of his titles ever to win an André Simon award."

Ken Hom, star of several television cookery shows, including Hot Wok, has a natural exuberance and passion for Asian food that is vibrantly evident in this delicious, entertaining, and useful cookbook. Filled with more than 150 recipes that are designed to be prepared in the wok, it offers tidbits of cultural information based on Ken Hom's childhood in his Chinese family, his travels throughout Asia, and his continuing exploration of various Asian cuisines.
Well organized into chapters that begin with notes on the recipes and end with an amusing collection of desserts (including Fluffy Steamed Cantonese Cake--yes, made in a wok!), the book dispels any fears about wok cookery or Asian ingredients by spelling out just how to buy and care for the former and clearly describing the latter.
Ken Hom is a world citizen--he was brought up in the United States, now lives in the south of France, and travels throughout Asia. He skillfully adapts recipes from his life and his travels. Stir Fried Fish with Black Bean Sauce is a classic from Mr. Hom's mother's kitchen, while an aromatic and lightly spicy Vietnamese-style Noodle Soup or Thai-Style Noodles with Chicken take the cook on a delightfully savory journey.
The recipes are aimed at the cook who is comfortable in the kitchen. Any cook, however, accompanied by Ken Hom's depth of knowledge and his helping hand, will enjoy recipes cooked in their own hot wok! --Susan Loomis, Amazon.co.uk

Excellent book!.......2004-09-01
This is a great book. Recepies are simple but delicious. I've tried every single one and all were wondeful. If you like to cook Asian Cuisine this is a winner. GET IT!
Great guy, great recipes, great book.......2001-10-05
So okay, you go out and buy yourself a wok, you turn up the heat, you get out the oil - and then what? Ken Hom (one of the greatest Chinese chefs - and a terrific TV personality) will tell you. Right from the very basics, like how to prepare your new wok before putting any food in it.
Hom's absolute passion for Asian food, and in particular for Wok-cooked Asian food, shines through as you find page after page (bless me, 224 of them, I see!) of amazing recipes (over 150 for the punk accountants amongst you). But Ken Hom offers more than just a recipe and a photo. He strategically places notes on ingredient choice, preparation, and even cultural explanations based on his childhood in China. Added to this is information gleaned from his travels in Asia, and his exploration of Asian cuisine.
Ken Hom is truly international. Born of Chinese parents, raised in USA and now living in France, he travels frequently to Asia to learn more about his art. I saw him recently on a French television program, sharing the secrets of French cuisine with a top chef. Talk about depth of knowledge - Ken Hom knew almost as much as the other guy!
Get this book, try out the simple recipes first, then move on to some of the slightly more difficult ones. Believe me, wok cooking can me rewarding, not just for it's simplicity, but for its superb variety of flavors and aromas. Learn from the true master, and let Ken Hom into your kitchen. I promise you, you'll not regret the experience.

Bended Bias is an exciting embellishment that can be added to appliqud or pieced quilts wherever you like. Quilters will appreciate the step-by-step instructions for making and using Bended Bias and will be inspired by the beautiful quilt samples showing the versatility of the technique. Patterns for more than two dozen appliqu flowers are included, with suggestions for where you might place Bended Bias on the flowers. Other Patterns, in Linda's signature style, include butterflies, a dragonfly, hummingbirds and other designs. Bias tape is easily made by cutting a bias strip from a piece of fabric and running it through a bias-tape maker, a simple little tool found wherever notions are sold. For striking effect, Bended Bias can be made from contrasting fabric. Consider, for instance, the possibility of making bias tape from a wild tiger pint and using it to edge an appliqud tiger lily. AUTHORBIO: Linda M. Poole lives in a beautiful region on the outskirts of the Pocono Mountains, in Milford, Pennsylvania, overlooking the Delaware River. She has taught throughout the United States and internationally, across Europe, Asia, and French Polynesia. Her never-ending curiosity enables her to travel, seeking inspirations for her classes and her quilts. She is a first-generation American with an ancestry of European artists, weavers, embroiderers, writers, poets, stained-glass artisans, etc. REVIEW: Make sure Linda M. Poole's Bended Bias Applique is on the must have list if it's applique you're interested in. Linda Pool provides versatile techniques, easy introductory methods, and a focus on nature-inspired patterns which just can't be beat. These are some of the most inspiration and gorgeous appliques we've seen, many providing almost a stained-glass setting, and Linda Poole's Bended Bias Applique cannot be recommended highly enough over others on the topic.

Eye Popping Colors, creative jolt.......2007-04-08
Thanks to Linda Poole, I have used this easy technique to finish a stained glass memorial quilt for my father. The duck pond comes to life with the addition of thin bias outlines. My quilt took second place at the fair. Thanks again Linda for GREAT INSPIRATION and USEFUL text. Next I'm planning an Irish Celtic Quilt for a special ladyfriend.
Informative and Colorful.......2006-08-29
I have enjoyed Linda's book immensely. I found it to be very informative and the instructions were especially easy to follow, step by step. The photographs were very helpful, clear and colorful. This technique is easy, fun and adds life and depth to your quilt. I would highly recommend it to anyone that wants to try something new and exciting.
A MUST-HAVE QUILTING TITLE!.......2006-08-23
Bended Bias Appliqué by Linda M. Poole is a must have for every quilters' library. Linda walks you through every step of the bias process. Bias appliqué adds a real punch to any quilt and Linda makes it easy to do. The pictures are clear and the instructions are easy to understand.
The quilts are absolutely stunning. I particularly love the dragonfly and hummingbird quilts. Also of particular interest are the directions for shaping your Celtic swirls before appliquéing them to your background. What a marvelous idea!
I am thrilled to have Bended Bias Appliqué in my library and am eagerly looking forward to the release of Linda's new book "Quilted Fairie Tales."
Applique is fun.......2006-08-22
Linda Poole's latest book about using bias binding is just incredible. Her techniques make it so easy to create beauty! I especially like the simplicity of making complicated looking Celtic designs. Her instructions on making your own bias are super and really save a lot of money. Plus....you can exactly match or contrast your project with the exact bias you want. A really must have book for the appliquer, or person wanting to learn applique. Her patterns are great, or you can use her techniques with your own designs.
Bended Bias Applique.......2006-08-17
When I first heard about this book, I believed it to be a beginner's tome...however, upon reading it, the excitement built until I began using many of the techniques outlined by Linda Poole. I have been doing applique for over 40 years and it has once again become exciting to envision a new project with the addition of bias to enhance each design element. A well done book, with something for everyone who likes to do hand work, or who yearns to learn, or to perfect their hand work. Thank you Linda!

Book Description
"No one knew I could hardly see until I was eight years old, not even me! Then my second grade teacher caught me cheating on flash cards. Even eyeglasses, with lenses thick as Coke bottle bottoms, still left me legally blind."
"Friends ran off and I could not see to follow. My father was chronically angry, Mother turned out not to be the saint I imagined. Only magic and an enduring optimism saved me from a desperately twisted sense of identity and suicide."
Continuing with humor and optimism, R. W. (Bob) Klamm reveals secrets of the magic arts that helped him separate fact from fiction. He includes many delightful stories of his experience as a blind man performing magic, attending college, teaching high school, working in radio/TV, and raising two caring and productive children.
"Come fly with me. I have included some easy magic tricks. You can do them for family and friends."
