Book Description
New York Times bestselling author Carly Philips is really heating up the marketplace! Don't miss this sizzling story with a hero to die for and a romance that is Simply Sinful.
Detective Kane McDermott might be fighting a bad case of burnout, but that doesn't mean he's taking things easy. His latest assignment is to investigate Kayla Luck, to discover if the etiquette school she runs for awkward businessmen is really some kind of escort service. It looks cut-and-dried . . . Until he sets eyes on Kayla. She's smart, but she's also trusting to a fault -- and the heat that flairs up between them keeps getting in the way of Kane's best intentions. But if Kayla ever suspects his real motives, Kane will be the one who ends up getting burned . . .
Customer Reviews:
Cute intro into the "Simply" series.......2006-08-25
Kane McDermott is an undercover detective who finds himself with the petty task of investigating Kayla's etiquette school for businessmen. It appears that it may actually be a house of ill repute. The attraction between the two is sizzling. Just when he determines that she may be innocent, evidence stacks against her and danger lurks around the corner. In order to protect her, he will have to come clean, which could destroy the fragile relationship.
Phillips breezy story has great tension and her usual heated sensuality featuring incredible chemistry between the protagonists that'll keep the reader glued to the pages of this romance with light suspense. It is the best of the trilogy which also includes "Simply Scandalous" featuring her sister Cat and "Simply Sensuous."
Simply Crappy. A very poorly written book........2006-05-16
I am an avid reader of all genre's including romance. This is by far the worst book I've read in a long time. The author tells, not shows, what is going on and has long bouts of meaningless and endlessly repeating thoughts between the dialog. A few times I had to go back a couple pages to remember what the previous character had said.
The plot might be okay if it were executed well. It wasn't. There are a lot of fun easy reads out there. Books like this is what gets the Romance genre laughed at.
Fun and Entertaining.......2006-01-14
Every since I first read "The Playboy" I have been an avid Carly Phillips fan. So I had to read the Simply Series. Simply Sinful, although definitely not her best work, is a fun and entertaining read. The relationship between Kane and Kayla is sexy and kind of taboo, which just makes it even more fun.
Although, the tortured hero was a little over the top for me, especially how he would be so convinced things wouldn't work out one minute and then be madly in love the next. For some reason I also was not a big fan of Captain Reid, even though he was supposed to be a likable character. I just found him to be kind of annoying, luckily he is mentioned by other characters more than he actually appears in the book.
I loved Kayla's sister Catherine, every scene between Kane and Cat made me smile. She acts just how a good sister should. I'm halfway through Catherine's book "Simply Scandalous" and am loving it even more than this one. If you are a romance book fan, especially if you are a Carly Phillips fan, then "Simply Sinful" is definitely for you.
"Are you going to Lucky Detective?".......2006-01-05
Simply Sinful by Carly Phillips is clever quick read. Detective Kane McDermott is assigned to find out if Kayla Luck is running an escort service. Kayla Luck is a sweet trusting woman who decides to make Kane her first one nightstand. Everything goes wrong and Kane ends up moving in with Kayla to `protect her' from the bad guys. The next story of the series is 'Simply Scandalous' tells the story of Kayla's little sister Catherine.
Ugh........2005-10-11
If you love romance novels of all kinds, sure, maybe try this author. If you are not such a big fan, but want something that's modern, sexy, and funny--steer clear.
I was in the mood for a romance novel, so I grabbed this at the grocery store, and gave it away when I was halfway through (though I skimmed through to the end). The plot is often implausible and wrought with cliche. The dialogue is unbelievable and crap--for example, the hero keeps calling the bombshell by out-of-style and often derogatory nicknames, like "doll," sometimes several times within a couple pages. And that's still when he barely knows her The author constantly describes what people are wearing, in careful detail, which is just plain stupid and boring. Finally, the heroine is more than a bit pathetic.
I think it's cliche and bad writing, and I don't know how this woman keeps getting published. Maybe because of people like me who innocently buy her novels.

Loved this Christmas/Paranormal Romance!.......2007-10-05
Okay this is book 2 in the Drake series and it was great! Matt and Kate are so good together. Basis of story is Matt is an Army Ranger and he has returned home to Sea Haven and he is totally in love with Kate Drake, that scene with the truck was so funny I mean he runs off the road and his brother is just making things worse. It is Christmas time and there is a haunting. I loved the little poem above each chapter it was telling you sort of what was happening in the book. Jonas and Hannah are so cute together I mean you know it is true love when Hannah blows his hat off everytime she sees him lol! Sex was pretty steamy and the story kept me intrested till the end oh yeah another great Jonas and Hannah moment.
twilight before chrismas.......2007-09-21
This is one of the best books in the drake sisters series. A must read in a christine feehan fan club.
Drake Sister series is terrific.......2007-09-20
Christine Feehan is an excellent writer and I've loved all of her books. Twilight Before Christmas is yet another example of her great writing skills, as she excels at bringing characters to life for you so that you care about them, not just the love story. I highly recommend this book, as well as the whole Drake Sisters series.
Good Chick Book.......2007-09-02
Great summer read and fun for adult women. As the series progresses the plots get better but all have the hot romantics interests.
Kate's story........2007-08-14
This was a nice romantic read.
Matt Granite (former military) has had a crush on Kate since school. And Kate has liked Matt. She is shy around him. They end up finally getting together to redo a haunted house. There are ghosts coming after them that Kate can stop with her "abilities."
Enjoyed it!

The Wicked and theWondrous.......2007-05-14
I really love this book. It has 2 very good short stories. I usually don't care for short stories but these were both well developed and didn't seem to leave anything out. Ofcourse the continuing saga of the Drake Sisters is one I can't wait for Christine Feehan to continue.
Holiday mystery and magic.......2007-05-14
I love the series on the Drake Sisters and their magic. They have everything. I'm still reading the second story in this book and it starts out very well. I'm looking forward to finishing it and looking for more stories by the same author. Good read and not just for Christmas.
Sometimes you get what you didn't order.......2006-11-10
What a farce, I didn't order this but amazon sent it to me. I already had my copy so returned theirs and they only refunded the book, not the shipping. No fair!

Nice Handbook.......2007-07-11
Even if you have knowledge or a beginner of the art of candle magic this book will give you the necessary information. It goes through the types of candles, colors, figural, moon phases, planetary hours and some other vital information. My only drawback of this book is that although it provides all the information to burning your candles, it does not explain how to read divinational signs. The skill of preparing and lighting the candles are explained in detail. One important part is the end result. It's important to know if the work was successful or failed. The way a candle burns can give you an indication if things are going to happen slowly or quickly, good or bad. As well as how the flames burn, if the glass encased candle is clear or black. I am now searching for a book that can give me this other piece of information in greater detail. Overall, this is one of the best books to own in your pursuit to mastering candle magic.
Nice.......2005-05-23
This booklet is a good introduction to working various candles and lights. I would suggest that someone interested in burining candles pick this up and give it a read before they buy another book. I would also say that this book is a good companion to "The master book of candle burning" by Henri Gamache.
There are some helpful illustrations and diagrams for the first time candle lighter. This book is worth having.
Good little booklet.......2005-01-19
This is a 62 page book filled with a treasure of valueable candle burning techniques. There are some basic drawings and charts, details of different types of candles, days and colors, a few magical seals, zodiacal information and more. The cover is also well done showing many types of the 7-day variety candles available on the market today.
Great starters manual.......2004-01-30
This book is wonderfull for those who are just starting to learn candle work. I highly reccomend it to anyone who works candles.
A welcome edition to any magical library.......2003-01-29
This book is full of information for those who would like to learn about Practical candle burning rituals. This is not a ritual or spell book, but rather a book about the facts and fundementals of candle burning. It explains many of the different types of candles available for use with illustrations in wonderful detail, much more than many of the other books Ive read. I also liked this book because it's not based on any particular religous path, instead it makes the information understandable to anyone from any spiritual tradition. I highly reccomend this work and hope you all enjoy it.

Excellent recipes.......2007-05-18
I loved reading the book from cover to cover. It has excellent recipes...I've already made Green Rice and Buffalo Chili from it...both of them a super hit at my house.
I tried the mac and cheese too...it was a little bland, but better than most I've tried before.
Absolutely wonderful!!!.......2004-01-01
This cookbook actually made me feel proud to be an American. It's brilliant, colorful, very interesting, and it's filled with great recipes that we all know and love... What more can I say!!!
Travel through American kitchens!.......2003-10-31
This book is really nice, even if you don't cook (but I think you will be trying, if you have a look at the pictures), it gives plenty of information on the land and people and, obviously, on what they eat. It has an interesting introduction on the land and then it is divided into several chapters on appetizers and snacks, main courses, side dishes and desserts and each recipe is gorgeously photographed, as I already said, they will make you hungry!
The book is large and my first impression was that it would never get used in the kitchen, but I was wrong, because the recipes are laid out to spread out on one page only, so that you will not have to mess with dirty fingers on your nice new book, and they are delicious!
I tried a few of them and they all disappeared from the plates. We tried stuffed turkey with cranberry relish at Christmas, we already had a recipe and thought it was very good, but wanted to try this new one: well, it was so much better!
Not being American I cannot tell whether the recipes are truly authentic ones or not, as many of them are unfamiliar to me. All I can say is that what I tried so far was Oh so Good!
At the end of the book there is a glossary of strange items and a few basic recipes for stock, flaky pastry and the really delicious Hot Pepper Jelly, if you buy the book you have to try it!
Well, now the sore spot: the book is quite expensive. I know it is, but trust me, you will not regret you bought it! It is a "posh" book, if such things exist: big size, glossy high quality paper, gorgeous pictures, it really deserves to be shown on your coffee table. A great buy.

Great designs, lousy binding.......1999-11-16
This book is full of wonderful designs but... I have received two of these books and they both fell apart soon after I got them. There is a serious flaw in the binding process.

Martha, of course, has done it again. This time she tells us exactly how we can create perpetual keepsakes--including stockings, ornaments, and everlasting wreaths--craft special gifts, cook up tasty treats to give as presents (bourbon praline, marzipan snowmen, prosciutto bread, cranberry chutney), and produce cards, wrappings, tags, and favors. Some are time-consuming and/or expensive to make--wooden bowls gilded with real gold leaf may be a bit pricey for some--but others make economical use of discards, such as sweater pillows, snow globes, and shell candles. The chapter on gift making for "a long, long list" is especially helpful, with its suggestions for assembly-line production of both presents and wrappings. Naturally, Martha addicts will love this book, but even if you find her a bit irksome, it's hard to deny that these elegant crafts would please just about anyone on your gift list. --Amy Handy

Holiday Inspiration.......2006-03-27
This is a great book if you are looking for some holiday ideas. Buy it or check it out of the library early (right after Thanksgiving, if not before) because you'll want some time to plan some of these projects.
Martha Stewart is always full of great ideas and this book has one great idea after another. This has decorating, gifts, food, just about everything. Some are more practical than others and many can be simplified so you can do them with your children. Each year my son and I make a wreath for our front door using Marthas book as our inspiration.
We also make a simple Christmas ornament each year for each one of our children's classmates. This is time consuming, so be careful which one you choose, because once you have a couple of kids you could be in for a really long project. Since we are up to almost 80 classmates at this point, we have set up an assembly line with each of the kids doing a step and the oldest doing more if needed.
If you can find it, Martha Stewart Holiday Cookies, a magazine I bought Christmas 2005 is a great resource for Christmas Cookies. I wish that she would put this out as a book since my copy is already worn after just one Christmas. I have resorted to color copies of the recipes we liked best just to make sure it lasts.
Another Triumph For Martha.......1999-09-16
This book is a great companion to the two previous Christmas / Holiday Books from Martha Stewart Living. With signature style and grace, she presents us with beautiful crafts to make to decorate our homes and give as gifts. Martha has definately done it again!!!
Customer Reviews:
Highly Recommended.......2007-10-10
Carole Talbott has a wonderful sense of design balance for creating homes which feel great.
a simple good book.......2006-11-18
For those who want a decorating book with nice pictures for inspiration, or a book of terms and theories, this is not the book. Of all the decorating books I've bought this is the most pratical book that I can actualy use the knowledge I got (from reading it) immediately. The only pictures the book has are the plain 3D drawings without colors. I don't have any problem with that because what I expect to learn from this book is how to arrange the furniture and accessories in a room, no more or less. Compared to other books I have, this reserves more stars since I've learned from this book more. Hope this review helps you pick the right book for yourself.
A Practical & Helpful Guide.......2006-08-12
I've purchased a number of books on the subject of interior decorating, but out of all of them this is the one I've consistently found to be the most practical & easy to follow for achieving the best results in our home. I don't have a background in interior design etc... but based solely on what I've personally seen from the changes made, as well from the reactions of everyone else, this book is just indispensible!
A disappointment.......2005-10-01
You only have to look at the poor cover design to know you're in for trouble here. I ordered this book just out of curiosity and am terribly disappointed.
The author has a formula for decorating that misses entirely. Good design isn't about formulas. And if it were, she breaks her own rules regarding focal points, balance, traffic lanes, weight on the bottom and much more.
The room layouts have no doors or windows which so affect the placement of furniture. What was she thinking?
She places two works of art completely to one side of the wall when two walls join going perpendicular to each other. So if one views one wall at a time as one would often do, the arrangement is totally off balance. Huh?
Her teachings on the heights of furniture and matching it up with the height of the wall is a nice try that definitely won't fit many situations. There are too many variables that will conflict.
Her teaching that the art should be equally as wide as the width of the sofa or chair creates an oppressive feeling. The drawings that illustrate this prove my point: the art invariably overpowers the furniture below it which flies in the face of her teaching that the visual weight should be on the bottom, with lighter weighted items on top.
She would have you build a wall grouping from the outside in, rather than the inside out. What?
She clearly doesn't understand scale and proportion and can't even find where she mentions it, so I guess she doesn't know about the Golden Mean Theory or the Rule of the Golden Thumb.
She tells you never to place matching loveseats across from one another when that is a very effective way to arrange them. And she doesn't want you to ever split apart two matching chairs, for instance, when doing so can open up an arrangement idea that is very stunning and just as cohesive as keeping them together.
I'm sorry but if you want your home to have the "Levitt's" or "department store look" with your neat little furniture "set" and no individuality, then you might like her inconsistent rules and formulaic decorating technique.
But if you want your home to look creative, distinctive, original, personal and just plain "feels good when done", a rigid formula is not for you.
Rooms in this book have no windows and no doors/entry...........2005-08-21
So how does she get the furniture in--drop it down from the ceiling area?
Not one picture illustrates how to arrange furniture around design features such as a fireplace in between two large picture windows, or glass doors that most newer houses have these days, or large walkthrough archways, just to name a few room challenges that many people have. Also, most of the groupings did not seem to allow for comfortable passageways for people to get from one end of the room to the other--the rooms were overcrowded with furniture.
I'm glad I borrowed this from the library and didn't buy it. Not recommended.

Sweeeeet.......2004-11-16
Such a great book.....It's really hard to find good books on Interaction Design, especially ones that jump out of the interface world, but here it is...great little CD with Mpegs of the projects as well, though the CD itself is not interactive. The mpegs could be of better quality, but no complaints on my end.
