Book Description
Marla’s best friend, Elly, left England two years ago on a soul-searching trip through South America. Except for receiving a few postcards, Marla has not heard from her since. Then, Marla receives a strange letter from Elly begging her to fly to New York. But the person Marla meets at the airport is a very different woman from the strong, carefree friend she remembers. Elly, now well-dressed and thin, has acquired a park-view apartment, a house in the Hamptons, and a charismatic, manipulative, cocaine-smuggling boyfriend named Lenny.
As Marla tries to free her friend from the dual addictions of love and cocaine, she unravels a story of seduction and power in Columbia and of desire and betrayal in California. Caught in a web of deceptions, the threat of violence mounting around them, Marla decides to take on Lenny and his empire. But Lenny–like the drug he peddles–has no intention of letting Elly go.

Snowstorms in a Hot Climate.......2007-06-05
Another fabulous Sarah Dunant novel. This incredible storyteller has done it again! Snowstorms uses cocaine dealing as a vehicle to have the heroine, Marla, confront Lenny the anti-hero coke dealer. It is Britian vs America; a fight to the finish. Both intellectuals, they vie for the affection of petite, beautiful,Elly who is torn between the love of her best friend, who is trying to rekindle a girlhood platonic love affair, and the love/lust/desire of her handsome American boyfriend who promises excitiment, drugs, sex, wealth and travel. The rest is classic Sarah Dunnant. Plot twists, murder, male-female conflicts galore and finally a spine-tingling thrilling ending. This is a must read for Dunant fans.

LOVE COMES SOFTLY, the first series from the pen of Janette Oke, follows the lives of one family through three generations-beginning with a hated""marriage of convenience,""through hardships common to life on the prairie in an earlier time, leading at last to an abiding love. These eight stories reflect the enduring hope of Christian love and faith despite adversity and hardship. More than 6.5 million copies of the books in the series have been sold. Books 5-8 are in this box set.

Love Comes Softly review.......2007-09-30
This series is awesome. They are so easy to read that you just flow. The only complaint is skipping in the years but you could not begin to read all of the years i guess. Very hard to put down once you start reading.
Love Comes Softly Pack.......2007-07-25
I enjoyed reading these books for content and because they were very easy to read. They were written in a comprehensive language that allowed the reader to flow quickly through its content.
Love Comes Softly Books 1-4.......2007-05-07
Good strong moral values are taught in this series. Easy reading gives you an idea of what it was like to live in the 1800's including travel, homelife, and strong work ethics. It takes you back to a slower pace of life. These books are worth reading.
Refreshing!!!.......2007-05-07
I bought all the movies and all the books for my Mom (83) and she absolutly loves them, she read all 8 books in about a week, said she "just couldnt put them down"!! Highly reccomended!!
Heartwarming and soulful!.......2007-05-06
The Love Comes Sotfly books are wonderful! The characters jump out at you and come alive. They are much better than the Hallmark movies, and it was fun to read the differences and follow the lives of Clark, Marty and their children through the pages. Read the Prairie Legacy also by Janette Oak, they continue the story of Clark and Marty. What a wonderful set of books, I really reccommend them, especially if you like sequels and want to know the rest of the story.

Love's Unending Legacy.......2007-04-11
In this 5th istalment of the "Love Comes Softly" series Janette Oke continues to take her characters to new levels. Each having their own strengths, weeknesses, and trials. As always a great read and hard to put down. I just want to read from start to finish and start the next book.
ANOTHER GREAT BOOK IN THE SERIES.......2005-12-16
This book was focused on the other children of Marty and Clark.
Very little was mentioned of Missie and Willie, and I didn't know if I would be interested in it. I was!!! I love Ellie and Lane. There were heartbreaking moments, also. Overall, must read again.
GREAT READ.......2005-10-21
I love this series but this is one of my favorite books only because it is so full of fun and surprises. I think that love that Ellie finds is sweet and true. I also love the biggest suprise of all.
Ellie, Clare and Arnie share the Davis Legacy........2003-08-01
Marty and Clark are home from Missy's, and the re-adjustment takes time. Luke has finally left home, studying to become a doctor. Arnie and Anne have married. Nandry is withdrawn and refuses to be a part of the family anymore and Marty is unable to find out why. Clare and Kate are super-anxiously awaiting the birth of their first baby. Are they prepared if things go wrong? Will their faith survive? The LaHayes have decided to visit Willie and Missy in the West, and much to everyone's surprise, they love it! In their absence, we again meet Lane, the humble, trustworthy, handsome young cowboy who works at the Hanging W. Missy and Willy now have three children and Clae and her preacher husband are in the east.
This particular book focuses on Ellie, her strong points and her dreams. She has adequately assumed the role of homemaker and caregiver in spite of the fact she is probably the prettiest, most eligible young woman in the area. Her heart is pure, her motives are right and she is a real blessing to her parents. Will this continue? Or change when she is faced with a life-altering decision? This book makes the reader hurt with Ellie, dream with her, and finally, well, you need to read the book.
There is one major bombshell in this book, but that would spoil it for future readers. Way to go Janette Oke, and keep the books coming in, they are a wonderful escape to a simpler, quieter time. This book ends with the Davis family in awe of passing on UNENDING LEGACIES....not just material, but spiritual as well.
Well written, with a multitude of unexpected twists........1999-09-03
This fifth book of Janette Oke's "Love Comes Softly" series continues the story of main characters Clark and Marty Davis. In her dealings with the issues surrounding the family's acceptance of Clark's new handicap and the occurance of other difficult events, Janette Oke gently teaches lessons of faith readers can apply to their own life. Whether describing the emotions of a mother sending her grown children off to fulfill their dreams, or tackling the agonizing question of why God would permit tragedy in the lives of those who serve him, Janette Oke's writing draws the reader into the story and plays those emotions directly upon the strings of the reader's heart. Unlike many lukewarm prarie-era stories, this book does not shy away from unpleasant subjects. Instead it tackles them head on, forcing the reader to grow in his/her own assurance as s/he identifies with the characters in the book, and with their tragedies and triumphs. A must read for anyone who has ever asked the question, "Why, God?"

Customer Reviews:
Vision and purpose understood.......2007-09-12
If you want to really, fully understand how and why one is given a Christian spiritual gift like purpose and vision you will truly enjoy reading this book....it's hard for me to put it down...and I'm only into the 3rd chapter. Myles Monroe has been given a rare gift of explaining the actual "mechanics" of various spiritual gifts in terms that are so plain and understandable....I've read his book on prayer as well "Understanding the Purpose and Power of Prayer" it was TERRIFIC!! I can't wait to order another one of his books when I get through with this one.
Great & Inspiring.......2007-02-19
I can't get enough of this book, every page is an "aha" moment. It's taking me to the next level. I think the book was written just for me, answering/addressing the questions I've had & couldn't seem to figure out the answers.
A spiritually motivational booster shot!.......2006-11-10
Myles Munroe has done it again! In his own uniquely simplistic way of informing people who are searching, of the principles in scripture which help us to move forward in the purpose that God has given each of us. Munroe shows us how to identify the talents that God has given us and to utilize them to our fullest potential. This book along with the study guide helps the reader to remain on track in regard to prioritizing what is really important in life. The fulfillment of our individual purpose for being. It's not about competition, it's about purpose!!
Excellent.......2006-10-10
I had the opportunity of taking a class on this book. The book is awesome. It made me think seriously on somethings I wanted to do in my life. One statement in this book was, "Stop procrastinating and hoping you will eventually get somewhere in life. Decide whether you're going to get a curse or a blessing." Revelation 3:15-16
I decided I would rather have a blessing and began to focus more towards my purpose in life. Knowing that God is my source and He would never give me a vision or assignment that I am not equipped for.
I also liked the Chapter Principles at the end of each chapter (ie. "If you don't have a plan, God doesn't have anything specific to direct you in.").
Life Changing.......2006-03-25
You find yourself looking at YOU & what YOU can accomplish in a totally new light.
Many revelations on LIFE & your purpose in it.

If you can only own 1 Southern cookbook...this it it!.......2007-08-07
I purchased this book back in 1986 and it is still one of my most cherished and used cookbooks. Camille taught me to make biscuits! I was a total novice back then! The old cookbook had more old photos and nostalgia...this one seems to be glossy and full of picures of the actual food itself.
This cookbook is a classic...it has stood the test of time...I have been using it for 21 years now!
Excellent Southern Cookbook, don't tell your cardiologist.......2006-04-26
If you have "Southern Roots" you will love this book. Every time I make a dish from this book I remember my grandmother. This book is a treasure.
There are a few recipes in this book that won't make a cardiologist faint, but not too many. But then again that really isn't what true southern food is about is it?
This book contains a nice recipe for homemade English Muffins, and Hush puppies. If want to make something that is very southern try to Carolina Grits Souffle. This recipe turns out very light and delicate and extremely flavorful from the sharp cheddar. The recipe for Crabmeat Imperial will blow your socks off. If you aren't a southerner you may not realize that this recipe alone is worth the price of the book.
I highly recommend this book for those that enjoy real Southern Cooking.
Beautiful, But Doesn't Contain All Recipes of the Paperback.......2006-02-12
A friend of mine made a delicious cake out of the Paperback version of this book. The cake was so wonderful I wanted to own the book to discover all of it's wonderful recipes. When I saw a hard copy on Amazon that appeared to be the same of course I wanted the hard cover. (PS the hard cover was in excellent condition and with shipping only cost about 8.70) Now the hard cover has beautiful b&w and color photos but it doens't contain all the recipes of it's predecessor. I was very dissappointed that it didn't have the recipe for the delicious cake my friend made. The only clue is on the inside of the book where it shows the copyright date of 1986 with color photos added in 2002, where it says "adapted" from The Heritage of Southern Cooking. Comparing both HC & PB I see that the HC is missing a lot of the recipes but has more photographs. There's nothing on the front cover that gives any indication it's only a sampling of all the recipes. I'm buying the PB now.
Lovely, Darlin'.......2005-09-17
This cookbook is delightful to look at. Huge, full-color pictures on every page. Most of the recipes are quite simple to make, too. I like the little historical photos too. Unfortunately, however, nearly all of them are uncaptioned. Most of the recipes could have been introduced a bit better too, like where do they originate and what makes them Southern. Also, a few of the recipes are from Maryland, Missouri, and Illinois -- are those parts of the South?
It IS a good collection of tasty, mostly traditional Southern recipes, but I think it is inaptly named, because it doesn't speak much about the recipes' "heritage," so much as Camille Glenn's upbringing as a Kentucky innkeeper's daughter.
Also, I wish recipes for sweet potato pie and hominy had been included. Otherwise, like I said very beautiful, and I enjoyed learning how to make traditional pickles and preserves. You must try the corn pudding!
Even a Yankee can cook good with this one!.......2004-01-06
Around 1987 an acquaintance of mine purchased this book. He didnt get much of a chance to use it though. After I got a hold of it I read it so many times.. the recipes and the stories. I actually got a cozy feeling of home sweet home and got hooked on the southern hospitality of it all. I started cooking many of the recipes and to my surprise they all worked like a charm and without a glich.I was hooked!
I mostly used the book for some old fahioned recipes that had a bit of a twang to them. I especially liked the shortening bread, mincemeat, and pickle recipes. Last but not least...I value the bits of information throughout the book that I still rely on today. It is now the year 2004 and I've been living in Europe for 12 years without this book but still use many of the recipes that I had gotten from it. I think its time I buy my own book. I reaaly miss it!
This book is well written, enticing, and most of all delicious!

This book is really only about figurines, with a little history of the company markings. It does not cover any dishes or accent pieces for the china collector. The product description may lead you to think it covers it all, but it doesn't.

Live what you Love.......2007-08-17
This was a very practical way for me to discover my blind spots when it comes to decorating and arranging my home. Denny has made lots of interesting exercises that are a lot of fun and occasionally surprising. I also liked her playful and inspiring tone throughout the book. I feel very confident and prepared to reinvent rooms that haven't been changed in many years.
Spiritual journey and decorating combined.......2005-03-02
Finally, decorating makes sense! While some decorators approach decorating piecemeal, this author takes a much broader view. The author's premise is that you must understand what you want before you start actually decorating. The book then takes you on a journey of discovery.
There are several wonderful exercises in the book, from a completely new perspective. For example, many decorators will tell you to cut out pictures of rooms you like. But what if all the rooms you like don't fit your house, or your budget? Or what if you can't find pictures of rooms you like? Denny's approach is different. She has you create a picture journal, not simply of rooms you like, but of anything you like--rooms, jewelery, scenery, clothing, etc. Then, you look through and find themes which you can then translate to, and make come alive in, your home.
Typically when I read a book with exercies, I find them burdensome or dull. These are different; they are easy and fun. Many exercises are aimed at discovering your hidden desires, likes, and needs. What's the point in designing a beautiful room if it doesn't meet your specific needs? This book helps you dig, and uncover what you want and what may have been missing in your home/life for years.
There's also a wonderful section devoted to clutter.
It's hard to believe that a decorating book can work so well for an individual. But it does. I read the book somewhat quickly then started again and did (most of) the exercies. This book is great for anyone interested in a fresh, individualized, fun approach to decorating.
A Fun and Easy Read.......2004-11-16
Do you ever look around a room in your house and think: I never liked this room; it's too ___________ (fill in the blank!). That's how I was, but I was never sure what to do about it. This book is wonderful for helping you discover the styles and atmosphere you want your room to have and then how to create it.
I love how the author emphasizes that your home should be decorated with what makes YOU happy, not what the latest trend is. She has a very straightforward approach for helping you come up with your design. Her many examples of past clients' "problems" and their solutions makes the book fun to read as well as informative. Her book never gets bogged down in technical jargon.
I highly recommend this book. My husband and I used this process in one of our rooms and we love the result; it's one of our favorite rooms in the house. We are now eagerly working on another one!
Beauty Inside and Out.......2004-11-11
Thank you Denny for writing a book that makes a connection between my home and my joy, my creativity, my spirituality and my love of family and friends. In What Color Is Your Slipcover, Denny Daikeler gently showed me a process of self-discovery that brings beauty to my life inside and out. Denny writes: "I will attempt to lead you to yourself and to the home life your soul deserves."
And it is easy and fun. I did the Picture Journal Exercise and discovered that almost every one of my picture had circles. I still cannot believe the impact of knowing this. Because here I am, walking through my home filled with a wonderful sense of comfort, a feeling of "I am home" as I look at the sloping backs of my dining room chairs, the rounded corners of the dining room tables, the wrought iron swirls at the base of my husband's desk, and the unusual round chair in my living room. The roundness somehow touches my spirit. I am home.
BONUS
And What Color is Your Slipcover is good for relationships too. Tony (my dear husband) and I did the process together. We have never discussed furniture or colors. It really is not an interest to him. But he loves his map desk and our living room filled with music. Last year, he gave me the most beautiful anniversary card. I am going to frame it. He said to me: "I knew you would love the card." I placed in on my mantle. It was the exact color of the walls and furniture, with swirls of course.
Customer Reviews:
It's tough being Barry.......2007-08-12
For one thing, being a genius takes a lot of hard work, all the time. It never lets up - if it does, that means you're not a genius any more. BWS is a brilliant illustrator and very good (dare I say it?) artist. Years of training and execution show in his work and in his biographical notes. If one must criticize, that criticism would be the visual analog of Emperor Joseph II's critique of Bach: "Too many notes."
The artwork here is wonderful, but I wish there were more of it. That brings us to the next part of why being Barry is so hard - the majority of this book is BWS's autobiographical writings, centered on events and perceptions that no one else in the room is likely to have seen. These are major events in his life, truly path-changing, and I fully trust that he describes the subjective experience as well as his words can. But many of these events are not the kind of things that another observer - a camera, say, or some person with just the usual five senses - would corroborate. Because this drama unfolds in ways accessible only to Barry, I find that it is not accessible to me.
I examined and enjoyed Opus 1, but I admit that I skipped most of the text and skimmed what little I read at all. Since text predominates in this book, it demanded more of my attention. I wish it hadn't.
-- wiredweird
GREAT STUFF (if you have the right expectations :-).......2001-09-10
The reviews of OPUS 1 and 2 are pretty much divided between people who either think OPUS was the worst artbook they ever bought or people who thought it was the best. I personally belong to the last category. And I think the reason is that I didn't buy it with the expectations of this being 'just another artbook'. I dunno how this book has been promoted, but I think it is very clear from the backcover and inner covers that this is as much an autobiography as it is an artbook. But if you do have high expectations about this being mostly an artbook you're going to be disappointed (maybe), because there simply isn't enough of all the beautiful art!! Aside from that: if you think you have had paranormal xps you will obviously appreciate the book very much. But even if you are 'just' an openminded person who would like to know more about the man behind the art, you will still appreciate Barry's descriptions of his extraordinary xps and his honesty about all the doubt, confusion and fear of ridicule (and of alienation from friends and family) associated with such xps. It doesn't matter if these experiences point to an objective reality or if it was just a wee bit too hot that summer in NY. What does matter is that he had the guts to do it: To show what moves him. And his art. If people don't like it or understand it, well ... That's their loss, I guess. On a final note: I find it baffling that some reviews (for OPUS 1) actually claimed Barry couldn't draw very well, due to 'problems with proportions' and so on. Yeah, well Michelangelo isn't very good, either ... or Boticelli for that matter. All crap, really. Just like Barry Windsor-Smith ... :)
THROUGH TIME & SPACE.......2001-05-08
Barry Windsor-Smith's second volume of his metaphysical autobiography is much better designed than the first and features some rather nice comicbook-style drawings, but it feels less "meaty" than Opus 1, despite being slightly longer. There is simply not enough works included that represent why he's deserving of a pricey second art book. Regardless of his goals, Barry Windsor-Smith is a comic artist best known for being the first to handle Marvel's adaptation of Conan. That's pretty much his legacy. His subsequent poster business and ultimate return to comics all hinged on the impact of his Conan comics nearly 30 years ago. The samples included in Opus 2 that illustrate his significance to comics and fantasy art in general are welcome--there's just not enough of it. Instead the book leans heavily toward Smith's stiff and pale Rossetti and Burne-Jones imitations. Perhaps they are meant to compliment his meandering text as he tries to explain his supposed paranormal experiences in 1973, but they become tiresome quickly. For all his pronouncements and posturing, Smith seems to have reached a plateau early in his career and simply stopped challenging himself. He has very little to say artistically and appears to be trying to make up for it with New Age babble about his precognitive links to Roger Waters. I don't think I'll return for Opus 3.
