Customer Reviews:
Very useful for practicing and building vocabulary.......2007-03-10
This is an entertaining way to build vocabulary at an advanced intermediary level. The stories are fun to read, short enough to make a comfortable "homework" exercise and are deceptively easy to read. The side-by-side English translation turns out to be very useful, both in clarifying idioms and subtleties that are not immediately obvious ... and also in translating occasional unfamiliar words and slang.
Very helpful.

Very tame.......2007-07-25
I found the book be somewhat timid,it is not a book I would like to read over again.
Great, hot read.......2006-08-21
PLEASURE BEACH is a "triple the fun" book. You don't get one juicy love story, but three, all taking place in a beach front house. P. J. Mellor writes hot, sexy and erotic. Her characters have pasts to overcome and deceptions to straighten out. Each of the three couples need to learn to forgive before they can love. Not a book to be missed if you like it any way you can get and then some. Highly recommended.
Love the Beach.......2006-05-23
This was the 4th Aphrodisia book I have read. I loved the beach theme and the writing was good too. This is an author I'll happily pick up more from. She is not my usual style but I found I liked it a whole lot.
The plot could have stronger but the characters were well thought out.
Must read.......2006-02-26
P.J. Mellor writes the poignant and sweet, but hot and humorous erotica that every honest woman wants to read. Pleasure Beach is a fabulous must read.
Sizzling sex with a wicked sense of humor .......2006-02-05
P.J. Mellor's PLEASURE BEACH delivers sizzling sex with a wicked sense of humor in three very entertaining novellas.
Pretender--
Having lost her fund-raising job after being unjustly accused of embezzling the multi-million dollar donation from the Summers Group, McCall Lindsey arrives at a borrowed beach house, takes two sleeping pills and passes out.
Derek Summers has escaped to his beach house where a note from his friend sends him next door to collect his birthday present. There he finds a luscious hooker, naked and sleeping on his friend's bed.
Aroused by her delicious erotic dream, McCall is shocked when the next morning her dream lover reappears in the flesh. A case of mistaken identity gives her the chance to live her wildest fantasies until she and her lover discover they want more than just a week of incredible sex.
Same Time Next Week--
Too much champagne and the lingering scent of a man's cologne in the dark elevator of a hotel give Kinsey fantasies of the hot sex she'll never have with her not-quite-fiancé, Dr. Dull, D.D.S. Those fantasies come to life when a moment later she finds herself in the arms of a gorgeous cowboy. They agreed on a night of sex with no names and no strings. But one night isn't enough and he takes her to his beach house for the weekend. Although she refuses to tell him about herself, she agrees to return for the next three weekends, each week insatiable desire turning into something more dangerous for both of them.
Jack of Hearts--
Jack McMillan can't believe his new neighbor is his ex's sister's best friend--the infuriating and gorgeous radio talk show host Royce St. Clair. Royce has always found Jack attractive, but cocky and arrogant, and she has no intention of becoming another one of his conquests. Still, they can't resist temping each other until the raw lust between them is irresistible. Mind-blowing sex only escalates the battle of wills that masks hidden feelings neither wants to reveal.
Although sexually explicit, the three erotic novellas of Pleasure Beach are strongly anchored in romance. Each is a cleverly plotted love story full of hot sex that doesn't resort to vulgarity or sensationalism. The couples' intense attraction and their ability to fulfill each other's most erotic fantasies lead to caring and ultimately love. The characters, especially the women, are written with humor and sensitivity that make their detour to the wild side completely believable If the "good parts" are your favorite passages of a romance novel, try PLEASURE BEACH...it's all "good parts."

Book Description
Just east of the village of Amagansett, toward Montauk, the towns fall away, the trees disappear, the sky opens up, and the lush farmland gives way to sand and reeds and scrub in an area called Napeague. On the ocean side of this lonely stretch of Route 27, nestled in front of dunes, a sign announces “Lunch” at a shingle-style diner. As New York magazine explained, “Anyone who’s ever been to a Hampton has seen the Lobster Roll, better known as Lunch—a weather-beaten roadside clam bar, no-frills seafood restaurant, and geographic point of reference that’s as much a part of the South Fork as the Montauk lighthouse.”
The Lobster Roll is indeed an institution, evocative of carefree, casual summer eating—exactly the type of food in this book:
• Soups and appetizers such as New England Clam Chowder, Lobster Bisque, and Steamers and Broth
• Rolls and sandwiches that include Lobster Rolls and the Perfect Hamburger
• Perfect summer entrées like Lavender-and-Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Barbecued Ribs, and Grilled Leg of Lamb with Garlic and Rosemary
• Refreshing sides such as Creamy Coleslaw, Pickled Squash and Mint Salad, and simple recipes for summertime treasures like corn, tomatoes, and new potatoes
• Desserts like Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie and Raspberry-Peach Cobbler as well as drinks such as Homemade Berry-Citrus Iced Tea and Fresh Strawberry-Mint Lemonade
The Lobster Roll has been dishing up this food for three decades to locals, tourists, and summer residents alike. This book is a celebration of that cuisine, with the restaurant’s preparations adapted for home cooks, plus non-restaurant recipes for quick, simple dishes that take advantage of summer’s fresh bounty. And the beautiful color photographs perfectly capture both the food and the region—this book is what summer looks like, and this food is what summer tastes like.

SEAFOOD LOVER.......2006-07-26
THIS IS A MOST ENJOYABLE BOOK FOR ANYONE THAT ENJOYS GOOD SEAFOOD.IT HAS SO MANY INTERESTING FACTS AND TIDBITS OF INFORMATION THAT I READ FROM COVER TO COVER BEFORE I EVEN TRIED THE RECIPES.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO ANYONE THAT ENJOYS COOKBOOKS.
Its zero outside.......2004-03-12
Its zero outside and I feel warm reading this cookbook. I bought some lobster and made a roll with lemonade using the books concoction. I felt like I was back on the shore in July.
Great reading on a bone chilling day in Chicago.
Pretty to look at, not really to cook from.......2003-12-17
The pictures are great. The recipes are ok, but they fell a little flat. It's not something that I feel I'm going to use a lot.
A Little Too Full of Itself.......2003-09-01
Written by Hamptons insiders, The Lobster Roll purports to be a charming and useful summer cookbook. And while its size and photos do make it aesthetically appealing, its prose and recipes disappoint. There's not much new here, including the self-congratulatory tone that permeates the glossy pages. Anyone who has visited the Hamptons will recognize the you'll-always-be-an-outsider-compared-to-me attitude; anyone who has ever made crab salad has already advanced beyond this book.

Can't Wait For The Sequel!!!.......2003-07-12
This novel definitely left me wanting more...in a good way. The blend of action, humor, and suspense really draws you in to the story and makes you care about the characters. I can't wait to share their next adventure.
Exciting finish.......2002-12-17
I thought this was a refreshing look at some of the same character types you see in Lord of the Rings with the humor and wholesomeness of Harry Potter. Kept me turning pages when I got to the end, very exciting.
A fun, imaginative break from reality........2002-12-13
Well, this book was a fun read. I like to have a break from reality and this book certainly hit the spot. Sometimes the fantasy world tries to be too serious, it's nice when a book like this comes along to add a little levity to a wonderful genre.

Book Description
For an individual with a medical phobia, receiving the care that can relieve pain and cure illness can be a daunting task. Fear of receiving an injection, visiting a doctor, or seeing blood may put any of these some 30 million Americans at great riskespecially if they avoid receiving necessary medical care because of it.
Fortunately, specific phobias are among the most responsive of anxiety disorders to behavior therapy, the research-proven treatment adapted for self-help readers in this book. If you struggle with a medical phobia, this book will first explain the basics about your phobia: where it comes from, what factors influence it, and how best to prepare for treatment. Then you'll learn to confront and overcome your medical phobia with safe and gradual exposure exercises. These techniques are effective and fast. The book includes information about avoiding relapse and helping someone else who suffers from a medical phobia.
Customer Reviews:
From a "graduate of the program"... If you have and want to overcome a medical phobia, buy this book........2007-07-23
To put the review in context, a bit of background might be helpful: I'm a 35 year old man who's been deathly afraid of having my blood drawn for as long as I can remember. My phobia had become so bad that for some years now, I'd been skipping the blood work portion of my yearly medical checkups (which is probably the most important part). Every time I needed to go to get my blood drawn, I'd come up with an excuse and not go. I also used to feel intense discomfort and anxiety whenever I saw a needle in someone's arm on TV or in a movie (whether it was real or a special effect); if I could (i.e. If I was at home), I'd curl up into the fetal position (and if I couldn't, I'd cover or close my eyes and want to curl up into the fetal position).
Wanting to overcome my fear, I bought this book. At first I wasn't thrilled with the idea of exposure therapy (and thought "so you mean the way to get over my fear is to look at and otherwise expose myself to the thing/situation I'm afraid of?"). However, since the book states that despite the fact that you'll initially feel uncomfortable, little by little, the discomfort will go away, I decided to push myself and give it a try.
I've been subjecting myself to as intense an exposure regimen as I could take for about a month and a half now (going from short, 5 minute exposures to diagrams and photographs on images.google.com 2 - 4 days per week to longer exposures to photographs and YouTube videos for 15 minutes 4 - 6 days per week)... And today, I graduated. My goal was to be able to go to the lab, sit down in "the chair" without any fuss, stick my arm out and get my blood drawn (without fainting or having to have my blood drawn lying down for fear of fainting). And that's exactly what I did.
Having my blood drawn is still not my favorite thing and I didn't look at the needle in my arm today but if I had to do it again next week, I could.
In short, if you have a medical phobia that you want to overcome, this approach works (and if you have a history of fainting, the skills you learn in the chapter about preventing fainting will do just that).
psychologist with a phobia of medical procedures.......2007-05-10
After being brutally operated on without anesthetic in a third-world hospital as a teenager, I developed a phobia of medical procedures. Later as an adult I started passing out when given needles, which is both distressing and embarrassing. Even though I've since fixed my phobia, as a recovered medical procedures phobic and a psychologist specializing in the area of anxiety and phobias, I can say that this book is a must read on the topic. It's written in simple terms, is very easy to understand and is based on the latest scientific research. Added to this the author, Martin Antony, is a leading world expert in the area of anxiety.
Anthony Gunn, author of Fear is Power.
Fear Is Power: Turn Your Fears Into Success
Excellent choice.......2007-04-09
Purchased this book to help a patient understand her previously undiagnosed medical phobia. She felt it to be extremely helpful; explaining the disorder,
the nature of fainting, the course of treatment. She has used it along with our work together to begin to master her fears.
A step-by-step 'can do' program for overcoming phobias.......2006-05-22
While some folk dutifully see the doc and dentist while needed, others find their phobias of medical professionals so strong that they can't even make a preventative visit nor take common medical tests. This audience would do well to look at the self-help guide OVERCOMING MEDICAL PHOBIAS: HOW TO CONQUER FEAR OF BLOOD, NEEDLES, DOCTORS & DENTISTS. From the roots of fears and how to address underlying issues of such phobias to strategies for preventing fainting, stress and avoidance, this doesn't just admonish - it offers a step-by-step 'can do' program for overcoming phobias. A top pick.

Book Description
Large quantities of leaded decorative windows were manufactured in the years surrounding the turn of the century. Glasses of many colors and textures were used to make elaborate windows for homes, creating spectacular presentations of light and color formerly seen only in churches. These windows are enormously popular on today's antiques market, varying widely in price and condition. This attractive book is a useful tool for anyone looking to bring the enchanting beauty of stained glass into their home. Hundreds of gorgeous windows of many shapes, sizes, colors, and complexities are featured here, including etched, beveled, painted, and mosaic windows. Learn about the influences of some of the more prominent names in decorative windows, including Louis Comfort Tiffany, John LaFarge, and Frank Lloyd Wright. Original catalog material, a discussion of glass and leading types, values for each window, and other information will help you assess decorative windows in the marketplace. For designers and artisans, this book is a treasury of classic designs.
Customer Reviews:
Not my favorite book.......2007-05-27
This book was infomative and had lovely pictures of stained glass windows, but it was still not just what I was looking for in a book on this subject.
Stained Glass for the home - window design ideas.......2007-01-23
Great catalog reference book to see actual photos (all color) of old stained glass windows and designs that were executed for period homes. All types of designs from simple to complex are depicted and beautifully photographed. The book can be used to research design styles; as a reference tool of design ideas for the stained glass craftsperson; or for anyone who appreciates stained glass and enjoys looking at beautiful windows.
Great resource.......2006-02-22
This book is a great resource, or a beautiful coffee table book. It covers a broad range of architectural stained glass styles with both common and unusual examples. The photographs are excellent. I pull it off my shelf to illustrate possibilities to my stained glass clients all the time. It is very similar to "Old Stained Glass for the Home" by the same publisher, but the two together make a great pair for ideas, information or inspiration.
Stained glass will never be the same again!.......2002-01-28
I am an amateur stained glass collector and after having read this book I feel much more prepared to continue my hobby. I found the book well oragnized and photographed beautifully. There was more than enough information for me regarding pricing, locations and vendors. I recently had the opportunity to meet with the author and I found her very charming and well informed. She really knows her stuff. Not only am I a fan of stained galss but now I am a fan of Molly Higgins!
Book Description
Around the turn of the 20th century it became fashionable for homes to include decorative panels of stained glass in their windows and doors. They ranged from small eyelid windows or transoms over a doorway to massive walls of double-hung windows. In any size they introduced a warm glow of color to the interiors and an artistic tflare to the architecture. Today stained glass is being rediscovered. Antique windows and doors are sought after by collectors and decorators, and contemporary glass artists are reviving the craft. This book demonstrates the wide range of glass that is available in the market. For the artisan it gives a context to their work and provides them with ideas and techniques to expand their repertoire. Over 500 color pictures show the artistry and craftsmanship of antique windows and doors from England, Europe and the United States, and make this an invaluable resource for designers, architects, home restorers and collectors alike. Dimensions and information about the historical context and the artists who produced the glass are provided, along with current prices.
Customer Reviews:
Stained Glass Windows & Doors, 2nd book..........2006-03-15
The 1st book was incredible! I loved it..the windows were exciting and different...and I couldn't stop picking it up and looking at more windows and designs.....The second book, for me, doesn't have such incredible window designs...a bit more ordinary..however, what I do like is that it's laid out a bit more in order..and a lot more informative history on the stained glass...Prices are really irrelevant..as they'll be outdated in a few years...There's such a great need for books on stained glass...and these certainly are of help. A book on just American Stained Glass windows would be appropriate..and then one specializing on Victorian styles, A&C styles, and then regional styles...along with how they were used in the homes..and maybe a collection with period pictures...etc..there's lots more that needs to be printed!

Do-able Projects!!!!.......2007-06-17
Great book with beautifully illustrated step-by-step instruction. All of the projects are do-able and practical.
Who needs a torch?..........2005-09-30
If you think metal crafts are complex and expensive, you were wrong. This book will show you not even a torch or an anvil are needed. Joanna Gollberg guides you through the creation of 25 easy projects one can create just using metal sheets, simple scribes, a jeweler or marquetry saw, metal wires and thin tubes.
The projects are briefly described, but once you master the basic techniques you can get the general idea and then work on your own projects, creating beautiful little (or not so little) crafts.
The photographies and templates are first quality, and the book binding too, what a beautiful book!. Books like this one worths the effort I do ordering them from Spain!
I was curious about a book that claimed it was possible to create metal crafts using "cold joinery", and the truth is this didn't disappoint me. It deserves an eye from every casual crafter or hobby searcher. I want more books like this one!

Wonderful Wall Project Book w/Glorious Photos.......2005-12-03
This book has great ideas and step-by-step photographs to create easy wall treatments using various paint techniques. There is a section that also includes doing murals using various techniques.
When I saw the book was by the editors of Country Sampler Decorating Ideas I was skeptical (not a big country decor fan). They proved me wrong. The majority of the projects were fantastic, fun and work in many deorating styles.
"Quick-Hit projects," address simpler techniques that don't really require step by step instructions. I have to say I was a little skeptical, but looking at the picture of the project, then reading the instructions of how to create the look really worked. The editors were right, not all techniques require a step by step.
A few of my favorite techniques are:
-Graduated wall that looks like a wallcolor wash, beautiful (pg 14)
-Stone Age wall - not sure why it's called that. It's an unusual treatment that they have layered with a wallpaper border. It actually looks like wallpaper, but does not look like a stone wall at all. It's beautiful too and has a "villa" feel. (pg 18)
-Terry Cloth Tiles was really cute and seem quite easy and definitely a look I had not seen before. It was done on a bathroom wall and was quite gorgeous. This was a Quik Hit Project (see above). (pg 32)
-Trick Brick Wall - Their technique for this was one I had not seen before. In fact, I plan on trying this one in a room I want to have a Tuscany villa feel. I will use a different color palette to achieve the villa feel. (pg 76)
A few projects I did not care for (they just weren't my personal taste):
---Plaster Pretender that shows how to apply paint to look like a plaster finish. I think the technique looks cool but the color choices for the wall were not for me. I could see it in more with earthy tones that would give it a warmer feel. (pg 30)
---Break the Mold. The background technique was really nice and I would do it, but I am not a big fan of gluing 3-dimensional molds to the wall, but it might be a look that others might enjoy (pg 70)
I could go on and on about the great projects in this book, but I don't want to list every page. LOL This is definitely a book to buy for your library. Most of the techniques are beautiful and seem simple to execute. I like gorgeous but uncomplicated techniques that won't take a week to complete! Very important with my limited time.

A new expression of Carson's famously original way of seeing, 'fotografiks' are curiously fleeting images that seem to have been lifted out of their mundane context and abstracted to another realm. Street markings, graffiti and all sorts of signage have been obscured, enlarged or cropped to create strangely familiar but often enigmatic pictures that show Carson's acutely sensitive response to shapes, colors, shadows and light. An introductory essay explores the synergy between graphic design and photography, and the dynamic relationship that exists between words and pictures. Anecdotal captions provide philosophic comments on the nature of the photographs, aspects of the page design and observations on the process of assembling parts to form a whole. Possibly the most influential graphic designer working today, David Carson has been profiled by several of the world's leading publications including Newsweek and The New York Times, and has won an award from the International Center for Photography in New York for "the best use of design with photography". He creates cutting edge advertising for a number of high profile clients including Nike, Microsoft, MTV, Jaguar, Ray-Ban and Sony.

The man who changed graphics.......2004-12-27
Carson is the most exciting and inovative designer to come along to come along since the Bauhaus. He broke all the "rules," and mined a fresh vision. All his monographs demonstrate his vision.
Fotografiks.......2004-01-15
Thank you, DC, for an inspiring book. You are forcing me to carry my camera wherever I go...(for a shot at Fotografiks 2!) I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who believes in the power of photography as art: It's not family portraits and birthday parties; it's the world thru a different lens... The photos display shape, color and symmetry that are often overlooked in everyday life. With Carson's unique layouts and great captions and text from Philip Meggs, the book comes alive. See for yourself. I was lucky enough to receive a signed copy! Thanks again, David.
Pleasing if knowledgable in photography.......2003-01-13
David Carson is undoubtedly one of the best graphic designers and a revolutionary typographist ... but unless you understand the angles and complexity of photography, I don't think you'd really want to get this book. Sure, Carson does have a wonderful eye for color, balance, and emotional insight, BUT if you're looking for a photography book with more text and a better composition, you might want to extend your search.
eye of the beholder.......2001-07-20
David Carson first made a name for himself debunking high-brow design aesthetics with a decidedly impulsive and intuitive approach to the printed page. Here he similarly debunks high-brow photography, with this collection of obscured, abstracted and often out-of-focus photographs. These lo-fi photographs are then elevated to another level by Philip Meggs's typically lofty writing... be sure to check out Carson's grungy photograph of an empty chair, which Meggs decides is a study about "the absence of people." (That put a smile on my face, at least.) Aside from the almost farcical nature of the writing that accompanies these images, they are still effective on a purely emotional, visceral level, that same base that Carson has operated so well at as a designer for so many years. Who knows, you might even want to use it as a coffee table book... although you might confuse your company.
Innovative Design.......2001-04-12
David Carson, editor of RAYGUN magazine has yet another book for readers. This book shows not only visual asthetics, but also a fair amount of writing, given by Carson himself of what exactly his appraoches are to certain spreads. He also explains his experiences in designing, and has a very unique way of looking at things. He has done work for David Bowie in the past, and many images used for Nine Inch Nails' "The Fragile" are found in this book as well. David Carson is an intellegent person, and it can clearly be seen in the 'not what you'd expect from a designer' look of this book, with photos he took only with a standard 35mm camera and developed at a nearby one hour photo. Also keep an eye out for a soon to be released Nine Inch Nails DVD, which was designed and packaged by David Carson, along with some other contributions.

Was Anton von Webern an icon of progressive elements in music or a Nazi sympathizer? According to author Malcolm Hayes, perhaps both appellations are correct. Von Webern is neither as well known as his mentor Schoenberg nor did he achieve the (comparative) popular success of his compatriot Berg. As with other volumes in the Phaidon 20th-Century Composers series, more attention is focused on the life of von Webern than on the details of his music. Hayes recounts the troubled decline of Habsburg Austria in the first half of this century, which gave rise to the brand of modernism championed primarily by Schoenberg. Shot accidentally by an American soldier in 1945, von Webern never saw his postwar successes and was spared the spectacle of some of the claims of his postwar adherents.

Solid introduction the fascinating composer.......2000-04-07
Webern's music seems to me to be something of an acquired taste. This biography, however, is perfectly designed to encourage one to acquire a taste for the strange atonal wisps of sound that comprise a good part of this composer's ouevre.
Rather than getting bogged down in technical discussions of Webern's serial techniques, the author gives us the composer's life; stopping at crucial musical signposts to explain how his thought evolved. In each case, we're given an idea how to approach the given piece.
Webern's music often seems unearthly, and he comes across as a bit unearthly (or at least very impractical) himself. Still, we get a human portrait of him, which further encourages us to see the passion in his music.
As with all the books in this wonderful series, it contains copious quantities of drawings and photos, a complete list of compositions and a wonderful bibliography for further reading.
If you've always wondered what the big deal about Webern was (to the extent that he influenced 50 years of music, frequently by people who seem not to have understood his muse), this is a good place to start finding out.

Indispensable.......2005-02-02
I bought this book when it was first published, and it remains the most thorough study of the composer available. I've seen no book, before or since this book, which is as extensive. The author is sympathetic, but retains his objectivity; there's no trace of fauning admiration here, nor of academic aloofness. Mixes biography with discussions of his musical works. This is that proverbial "must-have' book for anyone with an interest in the composer.
comprehensive personal.......2004-12-19
Shame this is diffucult to obtained,Moldenhauer is an archivist, a collector of the particles, anf filiments from one's lifeworld, and here this large book presents an exhaustive account of Webern's life down to much perosnal fragments, anxieties and wishes. We learn he remained afraid to conduct, and cancelled many times, also hated travel, he was very much like his music, thought thru down to finest rarefied details.,plucked strings, pencil-thin harmonics, Am Steg;a new musical language advanced like his "Six Pieces Op.6 for Orchestra",miniature gems of timbre here/there. There is not much on the creativity moments of his life, this is fairly a personal day to day ad nauseum at times narrative. It is fairly exhaustive, and really brings the commonplace aspects that fills really much of a composer's life, that in fact those moments of "illumination" or clarvoyance we as consumers continue wish to phanthom occur many times quite spontaneously and never within a durational frame of predictability; while walking or un-boarding a train, lighting up a cigarette, watching the troops from the train, returning home. His music, his diamond-cut pieces (Stravinsky decribed him) inspired a generation of composers. He affinity for purity number, density proportion shape and design were all welcome elements from the overdetermined political pages of Europe with Two Massive Wars, no one has seem to learn from.
There are nice vintage photos all included here.
