Book Description
Adorned with gripping cover art by Man Ray and translated by renowned scholar Dr. Paul J. Gillette, this dramatic collection of de Sade writings includes "Justine," "Juliette," "120 Days of Sodom," "Philosophy In The Bedroom" and many works often scattered among "pastiche" versions of de Sade's oeuvre.
Free of the author's repetitions, polemics and syntactically complex 18th century phrases, this edition captures the drama of de Sade's forays into human sexuality - including such practices as voyeurism, fetishism, and, most famously, sadism. Vilified by critics in the 1800s as "Monstrous
depraved
An odious book by an even more odious man," de Sade's depiction of his personal adventures has been studied and enjoyed by readers in light of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Readers will also discover a mind as free as de Sade's adventures were uninhibited, for he discusses natural evolution 25 years before Darwin's birth; postulates the existence of the unconscious mind a century before Sigmund Freud; and probes social mores decades before the work of Margaret Mead. He also espouses political ideas that were put into practice by such diverse figures as Joseph Stalin, Adolph Hitler and Fidel Castro.
Born into French nobility in 1740, Marquis de Sade continues to open minds to new human experience more than 250 years later - in this dramatic new release from Holloway House Publishing.

A disgrace to sin.......2007-02-05
This book is beyond boring...It's not even "reading while on the toilet" material. It's like a course you'd be forced to take as an elective in college. It reads like some student's half-hearted biography about no one in particular.

as shocking today as 200+ years ago.......2004-05-26
"Philosophy In the Bedroom" is probably the goriest, most sexually graphic thing I've ever read, yet strangely arousing, I was actually putting myself in Eugenie's place at some moments. In an age were we are bombarded with sexual innuendo all day every day, Sade figuratively shoves our faces in it and blasts away every taboo possible. No wonder this caused such a stir in the late 1700's; it's amazing Sade wasn't burned at the stake, but he is proven immortal because his shocking stories are still titilating readers' true carnal natures centuries later. This book should rightfully be seen as a classic, while it was once the most forbidden pornography. It's still pornography, but porography that tells some philosophical truths about unrestrained human nature. If you are not squeamish, religious, or faint of heart, I recommend it.

Jaid Black's contribution is the best, but the others are worth a read .......2007-08-13
Captivated By You - Author: Sherrilyn Kenyon
Rhea Stevenson is pretty hot, but she's also a by the book girl, and a little uptight. She's secretly crazy about Ace, one of her fellow Bureau of American Defense (B.A.D.) agents. Since he's a womanizer and she's set on following the "no office romance" rule, she acts as if she hates him and gives him the cold shoulder/evil eye every chance she gets. Unfortunately she's been assigned to work a case with him that has her posing as a dominatrix at an exclusive club to catch a terrorist.
Ace Krux has got it bad for Rhea, but she hates him and he doesn't know why. Fortunately he's maneuvered her into working a case with him that will involve her in skimpy outfits practicing her dominatrix skills on him. He's hoping that his charm and their near nudity will result in a little action. His prayers are answered and things heat up pretty quickly between them after she ties him down. Only now Ace isn't so sure he likes the idea of sending her into a room alone with a terrorist.
The characters weren't terribly well developed, but we did catch small glimpses into what made them who they are, and that made the romance more believable. I like the lengths that Ace was willing to go to in order to keep Rhea safe.
Promise Me Forever - Author: Melanie George
Ten years ago Savannah Harper and Donovan Jerricho were crazy in love, but with his pro-football career taking off there was a lot of strain on their relationship and when a misunderstanding causes Donovan to believe that Savannah has slept with one of his friend, they break up and Donovan leaves town without looking back. Savannah is pregnant, a fact that Donovan knows nothing about, and never will if she has anything to say about it. Now Savannah, a single mom to a precocious little girl, has finally agreed to marry Jake, her boyfriend of two years. Only, a few days before her wedding, Donovan Jerricho blows back into town stirring up feelings she thought were dead. They are both angry and bitter about the past, but can't help feeling that pull towards each other. Donovan learns the truth about that old misunderstanding and realizes that he made a big mistake and threw away the only woman he ever loved, but can he convince her of that before she ties the knot? He just might if she gave him half a chance, but since she won't he resorts to drastic measures and kidnaps her and plans to hold her hostage in their old love nest until she hears him out. And when will she tell him that Reese is his daughter?
I'm not sure how I felt about this story. He resorted to kidnapping, which was kind of creepy, but he couldn't find it in him to hold her. It bothered me that Savannah was willing to marry Jake after she realized that she still loved Donovan and that she loved him more than Jake. It bothers me that such a sweet stand up sort of guy would marry someone who didn't love him wholeheartedly and slept with her ex shortly before the wedding. Seriously, doc, have a little self-respect! Nice is one thing, doormat is something else all together! I hated that Savannah didn't have the guts to let Donovan know that he had a child and that she didn't tell her kid who her father was.
Hunter's Right - Author: Jaid Black
Corporal Ronda Tipton, U.S Army, is excited about her new assignment. She's going to be stationed at a research base in the Arctic. Unfortunately, her helicopter crashes somewhere in the Arctic Circle and she is the only survivor. Hoping that she was somewhere near the base when the chopper crashed, she heads out on foot. When she finds what appears to be a door in the side of a mountain, she thinks her prayers have been answered. She soon finds that she was mistaken as she stumbles upon the hidden Viking civilization of New Sweden that has thrived underground for hundreds of years. She is discovered and chased by giant Viking men. She nearly escapes, but is caught by Lord Nikolas Ericsson, a cousin to the King and a revolutionary. He believes she is a military spy and questions her about how she came to New Sweden. When he learns she is telling the truth about the accident, she is sent off the bride auctions. The auctions were once a respected tradition, but the Kings corruption has turned it into something of a sex slave auction where the men fondle the women who are brought before them naked and shackled. When it's Ronda's turn up on the block she takes serious offense to being manhandled and uses her martial skills to smack down the offenders and get free. Just as all hell is breaking loose Nikolas claims Hunter's Right, the law that says a man may keep a woman he has captured. Nikolas did not intend to marry until after the revolution, but not only did Ronda make him hot, she was a fighter and he hated to see her punished or handed over to one of the Kings vile friends. Ronda believes she must escape and find the base so that she can inform the military of what is going in this secret world, but she soon finds herself drawn to Nikolas. Will she choose freedom or love?
The sexual stuff is hot ... really hot, though this whole chains and aphrodisiacs stuff kind of squicks me. I really enjoyed the characters and though the whole women as property thing doesn't appeal to me overly much, I found myself very intrigues by their world and most especially that prophecy of theirs. I've read one other novella and Deep, Dark & Dangerous which were both set in New Sweden and I have to say, I'm looking forward to more.
4 Stars for Jaid and Jaid Alone.......2007-04-14
First of all, I've never been a big fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon's BAD series. I think the stories are unrealistic, the heroes are arrogant alpha males with no redeeming qualities, and the women are too fast-mouthed and sassy for my tastes. Also, I'd already read the collection Born to Be BAD and had read the short story in this collection. I wasn't impressed the first time, and I was equally underwhelmed this time.
As for the Melanie George story, it was such a snooze, I skipped to the next story after reading the first 5 pages. Boring!
Thank God for Jaid Black, who might be the only reason this collection even sold. Hunter's Right is erotic, passionate, and entertaining--almost enough to make up for the clear misses by Kenyon and George. I read another story about Black's underground Vikings in the novella collection Playing Easy to Get, so if you liked Hunter's Right, I'd suggest you check that one out. It has another equally bad BAD story by Sherrilyn Kenyon, but also includes the first story in Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series, which is a real treat if you like paranormal romance. I have that collection to thank for leading me to Jaid Black, and while Hunter's Right was great, it's not enough to make Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down worth purchasing. I'd buy it used or check it out from the library instead.
Almost a Loser, Saved by Jaid Black.......2007-02-13
Anthologies either tend to be really good or really bad. With authors Sherrilyn Kenyon, Melanie George and Jaid Black, I was expecting great stories and only Jaid Black delivered. If not for her story Hunter's Right, this book would have rated a quick trip to the garbage can.
The first story in the series is Sherrilyn Kenyon's Captivated by You. Secret Agents Rhea and Ace are assigned to a terrorist case whose leader prefers S&M. Rhea and Ace must learn the ins and outs (no pun intended)to successfully convince their quarry that they are legitimate S&M artists so they can gain his confidence and get the information to crack the case. The problem with this story is all the cheesy one liners and predictable interlog and jokes. It was actually rather boring.
The second story "Promise me Forever" by Melanie George was the worst of the three. I only thought the first one was boring until I read this story. If you want to be dumped by your longtime boyfriend after he becomes a famous football player only to take him back after he is down and out (and by the way dump your good as gold fiance for him) go ahead, but don't expect readers to buy it. There was no passion and no warm fuzzies with this story.
The last story by Jaid Black "Hunter's Right" was by far the best of the three stories. Ronda is a military official on a secret mission in the Artic Circle. When the helicopter she is on crashes, Ronda is the only survivor. Knowing there is a secret military headquarters nearby, Ronda goes searching for help only to stumble across a hidden underground civilization of an ancient race of Vikings. Believing the prophecy that their forefathers warned of where women would become near extinct because of genetic tampering with births, these Vikings venture above ground from time to time and steal unattached females to put on the "Bridal Auction Block". An injured Ronda stumbles onto an auction in progress and is horrified to see these women striped naked and inspected like livestock by men looking for wives. She attempts to flee, but is captured by gorgeous Nikolas Ericsson. Nikolas covets Ronda but believes she wouldn't want him, however when he sees her taken away in chains after beating [...] out of the auctioneers, he claims hunters rights to keep her safe. Nikolas is building his weapons supply and army to overthrow the current leader of the underground nation. He wants to restore more dignity to the bridal auction and make civilization better for all the citizens. When Ronda realizes she can never return to her old life, she decides to make the best of her marriage. Ronda and Nikolas end up falling in love. The sexual scenes definitely are not boring, however some people may be turned off by the crude language and descriptions both Ronda and Nikolas use. However, I think this story saved the series. I kind of wish it had been a longer more in depth story as these characters deserved development, but it was still good.
Don't Bother.......2007-02-04
I like all of these authors, but this book had very little to offer in the way of erotic romance. Don't bother
Couldn't put it down..........2006-11-02
I thought the stories in this book were good for the length of each one. I have to say that "Captivated by You" was the best of all three. If you like short, steamy, predictable stories you'll like this book!

Book Description
In the thirteenth century, Zen master Dogen—perhaps the most significant of all Japanese philosophers, and the founder of the Japanese Soto Zen sect—wrote a practical manual of Instructions for the Zen Cook . In drawing parallels between preparing meals for the Zen monastery and spiritual training, he reveals far more than simply the rules and manners of the Zen kitchen; he teaches us how to "cook," or refine our lives. In this volume Kosho Uchiyama Roshi undertakes the task of elucidating Dogen's text for the benefit of modern-day readers of Zen. Taken together, his translation and commentary truly constitute a "cookbook for life," one that shows us how to live with an unbiased mind in the midst of our workaday world.

Disappointing.......2007-06-07
I had such high hopes for this book. Most of the recipes sound delicious. I am by no means a novice fudge-maker, but none of the reciped I tried from this manual turned out.
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful book!.......2007-03-27
A rich source of inspiration for a painter on porcelain, a pleasure for an art lover!
PURE PORCELAIN PLEASURE!.......2006-01-03
As a collector of fine antique porcelains, I was eager to own this book, and delighted when it was finally delivered! The artistry of painting on porcelains has been presented before in other publications, but "Hand Painted Porcelain Plates: Nineteenth Century to the Present" provides a new benchmark in terms of both text information and illustration.
With superb photographic technique, each image captures the magnificent color, form and art and the captions describing the age, area of origin and artist are very well done.
The plate chapters are arranged by country. German, Austrian and Bohemian plates include a history of manufacture, and makers like Richard Klemm, Ambrosius Lamm and other notable producers of Dresden porcelain, as well as portrait specimens produced by KPM and the artists of Vienna are included in this important chapter.
World class English porcelains are well-represented, with stunning and rare Worcester examples, as well as outstanding painted plates from Coalport, Davenport, Minton and Wedgwood. I enjoyed the recognition afforded to the venerable firm of John Aynsley, and the painted scenic view plates are generally missed by other publications on antique and collectible porcelains.
Many French porcelain makers set the decorating standard for others, and the chapter devoted to the makers from France, including Limoges and Sevres, are alone, well worth the price of the book!
With important information on marks, as well as fake and reproduction plates, Richard Rendall presents a clear and comprehensive text, and the examples from Elise Abram's collection are clearly representative of the most luxurious porcelain on the planet!
Recommended to both new and advanced collectors, you will not be dissappointed! This book is truly a feast for the eyes!

Customer Reviews:
Not the best favor book.......2007-06-25
Albeit, the book layout and format is easy to understand, however, the type of favors in this book are for first time crafters, who need to know the basics. There is a materials list and detailed instructions, however, I did not find much inspiration nor "flair" from many the favors in this book. Now if you really looking for unique favors, try Favors (leisure Arts #3390) paperback.
One of the best books of its kind out there,.......2006-12-15
I was surprised at how helpful this book turned out to be. Lots of these craft books are filled with crafts that are either too difficult or uninspired.
This book however had several creative and beautiful favors that I felt compelled to make. If you're in need of an interesting favor idea I think this book will probably help to jumpstart your imagination.
The directions are simple. The supply lists are detailed. The favors are unique and charming.
Excellent Resource!.......2006-07-13
I have always considered myself hopelessly inept when it comes to doing anything crafty. Ms. Maloney's book has changed all that! Charming projects, inviting photos and clearly written instructions allow me to complete these favors with confidence and ease. My local library thought the book was so great that they have put it in their collection too!
This is a MUST buy book!.......2006-04-04
You will never need another how-to book for ideas and instructions to make a favor again. The instructions are excellent (so are the close-up pictures) and, the where to buy what you need items to make these favors are listed. Simple but elegant, beautiful, unique, oh how cute, favors for every occasion are in this book. Brilliant ideas and favors, Mary Lynn!
You get more than you pay for!.......2006-01-27
If you are going to undertake hand-crafting a few dozen Favors you want them to be easy but also fun and different. This book shows 75 ideas that perfectly fit the bill. Additionally, with most projects, the author gives an additional "tip" that effectively doubles the number of ideas. The color photography clearly shows each idea. The lists of necessary items and the "How to" steps are complete but leave plenty of room for your own creativity. I especially liked the "Rubber Ducky" favor! I have found this to be a very useful addition to my creative ideas library and, in fact, have given a couple to my friends.

Customer Reviews:
Not worth the investment. Borrow it from the library instead........2006-03-29
Completely setting aside my dislike for the author's decorating style (too poofy, too theme-y, at times too busy and crowded), there simply is not enough information here to be worth the cost of the book. It is basically a coffee table book. Large photographs of rooms dotted with text.
Great Design Book!.......2005-06-22
This is a wonderful book for anyone looking for beautiful, unique and sensible ways to make guests feel at home in any type of space you call a guest room. It includes clever techniques to create office/guest room combinations. There are cozy guest rooms created in small attic spaces. And of course there are dozens of simply gorgeous bedrooms that are entirely dedicated to guests, whether they be grandparents, grandchildren, or friends from your college days. This decorating book is beautifully written with professional photography that clearly illustrates the points the author is making--well worth its price!

Customer Reviews:
lack of vision.......2005-03-19
Up through Rush's first live album and fifth overall, 1977's All the World's a Stage, the book presents itself from the objective point of view. After that it might as well be My Life as a Rush Fan. It is written at an elementary school level, nevertheless an easy read that could be finished in one sitting in this sound-bite society. The author awkwardly juxtaposes the song lyrics into his writing, and his prose seems especially lame when compared to quotes by the autodidactic Neil Peart. I can't complain too much because I ordered it after a man was handing out fliers at my first Rush show. It has some cool pictures but is for the die-hard Rush fan.
Just awful.......2004-07-04
This book is just bad beyond belief. The author comes off as an infatuated band groupie who can't resist inserting himself into the "biography" when one of the band members actually talks to him or nicknames him. It's an effort to get past his atrocious writing skills to the few passages with interesting information about the band. The entire book reads like a C-minus high school book report on a real biography.
This book should not only be out of print, it should be removed from the planet. "B-Man", shame on you.
Atrocious Grammar - Tenny-Bop Mentality - Cool Photos.......2004-06-14
If this is indeed "The Official Biography" Rush should be extremely upset for not proofreading this book before signing off on it. The grammar is so poor it becomes painful to read and the 6 & 7 word sentences are so sophomoric I can only read a few pages at a time.
The photographs are pretty neat, though. I'd like to read more about the band, but if this is how the words would come out, then just give me more photos! I don't care how happy the author was to receive a personal birthday greeting from Geddy Lee onstage. (A blessing! A blessing from the Lord!)
The book is so full of mutilated teenage dialect and selfish, self-centered authorship that most true, long-time Rush fans will be embarrassed on behalf of the band because this piece of literary excrement actually got itself published.
My 2 cents.
STELLAR RUSH BIO! IGNORE THE NAYSAYERS!.......2004-03-03
Granted, 'The B-Man' is not an expert writer, but most everything in this book is INFORMATIVE, ENTERTAINING, and GENUINE! One must remember, that at the time, this book was one of the very few insights and glimpses into the band, and their personal history, given how private Rush was. It is safe to say that these days, the band is much more open to interviews and public appearances, so don't judge this book by today's standards for chrissakes. The information and pictures in 'RUSH VISIONS' is first rate, and Mr. B's 'third party' observations are very fresh and 'you are there'. It is almost as if he becomes one's personal tour guide of the band. If you can get your hands on this rare book, do not hesitate one bit. It is well-written, chock full of awesome pics, and a must for a serious collection of Rush memorabilia!
VISIONS - " Before the Internet " - Published in 1988.......2003-06-26
You see , the problem lies within the fact these "5 year RUSH fans ", who are slashing this book, were not around in 1988 when it first was published. Before there were stupid computers and gossip hounds, this book was the pinnacle of information for this mysterious and reclusive band. All the info that these geeks blab about all day on RUSH post boards has come from the B-Man's book indirectly.Back then , you see , the band kept all info to themselves , for it did not matter if they where married or if they like sports....all that mattered was their music. It was because of the sheer determinaion and passion for the band that Bill set his "visions" to be the first to "get in with the band" and find out what makes them tick.Nowadays,RUSH lets facts out to their fans...I don't know why because the modern day warrior RUSH fan of today thinks they know everything about the band before they do themselves.
As I have said before , people like Mark Daniels and the rest of
you big shot reviewers should write YOUR own book on the band instead of lambasting someone who has already set the "the high water mark !"
I recommend this book to all RUSH fans.....even 5 year fans ...
