A waste of paper.......2006-11-14
The descriptions of all of Ms. Roberts' books are extremely brief (just a line or two), in alphabetical rather than chronological order. There is no index, a gross mistake. The various articles about the writer are shallow. The black and white photos are small and very grainy. The color photos of the book jackets are the size of commemorative stamps. In fact, there just isn't anything that is worthwhile in this work. The reader would do better to read Amazon reviews of her various books and the comments of those who have actually read the novels.

I love this book. Mostly I wanted to be able to read the descriptions of each book and decide then if I had already read them. This book is helpful, as the picture each of the other covers each title was published in. It also has 2 other sections, but I wasnt interested in those. Worth the money. I thought I had read almost all of her books!, but was I wrong!

Nora's fans have been waiting a long time for this book - the definitive behind-the-scenes look at "Nora's World".
It's laid out in different sections, from Nora's travels around the world, websites to visit, inside comments from her publishers and booksellers, a fan section and a great section on ALL her published works including Birthright, Remember When and her forthcoming Key trilogy. Each book carries a small synopsis and color photographs of all the different covers used and links to other books if its part of a series. Really comprehensive.
Peppered throughout the book there are photo's of Nora, her family, her office where she writes and Nora on her holiday's.
One small quibble. This book was due to be published a year ago and in certain sections it shows - reference was made to "her latest bestseller Three Fates" at one point. In other sections an editor's note was added with an update - it seem's a shame that the attention to detail was missing in some areas of an otherwise impressive, enjoyable read.
A true pleasure for fans..........2003-10-07

Editor needs to be fired.......2007-09-15
This is a mildly entertaining book as are most of Feehan's works. My main problem is that the editing department of Jove must have assumed that since she is a successful author that she knows how to spell. Carabineer (someone who carries a carbine rifle) used multiple times instead of Carabiner (D shaped safety ring) and Asmith which isn't even a word instead of azimuth. Those kinds of errors are inexcusable at this level and take away from enjoying the book. There were several contradictions at the beginning also. The ground rescue crew fails at a high angle cliff rescue, then the helicopter crew on the next page decides that would be unsafe for them to do when they wouldn't be doing a cliff rescue. Can you say cranking these out on autopilot?

This was Libby's story. And Ty Derrick (adventure seeker/genius).
Libby is the doctor and "healer" in the family. I enjoyed reading this book. Thought it moved right along, was well written and nicely edited.

I was not impressed with any of the Drake Sisters series. There was nothing there to keep me wanting to know more about the sisters. It didn't hold my attention. The "magic" was not enough to hold my attention.
Another thing that bothered me is that everyone just took for granted that the sisters had their "magical" powers. They didn't try to hide it and it didn't bother anyone. No one questioned them. Maybe secrecy would have made the series more interesting.
I was definitely not impressed. I'm hoping the Dark Series will be better, but from what I know about them, they seem like a ripoff of the Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I guess I'll have to see.
Great Read!.......2007-05-09
This was the first of the Drake Sisters novels that I purchased, and I liked it so much that I went backwards to read ther sisters before. This novel of Libby and her "supposed" nemisis Ty Derrick is both romantic and suspenseful. The realationships of the sisters is amazing. This is a wonderful read. I can not wait for Hannah and Jonas.

Coming from Cemetary Dance , I expected these to be truly scary and gory. I was quite dissapointed. Not splatterpunky enough for my taste. But some of the stories are quality, just not enought in sucession to keep my interest.

I got a lot out of this book. They did an excellent job at compiling a little something for everyone.
THE BOX by Jack Ketchum and SILLOUHETTE by Stephen Mark Rainey were the ones that stood out the most. THE BOX is one of those tales that is so subtle yet brilliantly disturbing, and SILLOUHETTE was a seemingly "been there, done that" haunted house tale, but through Rainey's masterful storytelling, the images stick.
Whether you are looking for gore, suspense, monsters, or bizarre-- this anthology delivers. The reader can open this up with confidence knowing he's getting top-notch quality.

I immediately ordered Volume 1 after reading the first four stories in this collection. The stories were great and gave me the chills I look for when reading books of this nature. A few of my favorites include:

It Actually Deserves 4 1/2 Stars.......2002-09-10
Cemetery Dance magazine has a long history of being one of, if not THE, best small press magazine publishing horror today. These stories are a good sampling of some of the best work from the magazine. The quality of the stories is uniformly high. Even the almost-always-revolting Edward Lee managed to dig his mind out of the midden heap long enough to write "Almost Never." I even enjoyed the interview with Dean Koontz, and I DO NOT like his work. My favorites were "Eater" by Peter Crowther, which is about exactly what the title says, "Mr. God" by the impressive Thomas Tessier, an insight into the life of an obsessed body builder, and "Shattered Silver" by James Kisner, about a guy who really, REALLY likes old Hollywood actresses. All in all, I have to say that you can't go wrong with this collection. My only complaint is that it is a bit expensive for its slim size, and it was originally published in one volume with the stories in "Best of Cemetery Dance, Volume 1." I would try to find that edition, if you can.

I left this book in the bathroom for over a month becauase my husband had picked it up enjoyed it as much as his food geek wife. It has tons of little titdbits, interesting info. and food histories. It makes you the Cliff Claven (if you don't know who that is watch Cheers on re-run) of the food crowd.

Marble Mania has fine photographs of every imaginable marble from pebbles found alongside streams to the Industrial Revolution in Germany & Austria. Here the cutting of agate cubes & polishing them into marbles for export all over the world became a huge cottage industry. You have to see the beauty of all the clay, pottery, crockery, china & porcelain globes. It was fun to read this big book. Found myself chatting at the local recycle shop about the blue canning jars in their windows filled with marbles. Eyeing them eagerly, with a little more knowledge & a few more names.

I bought this book for my husband (from Amazon) for Xmas. Not only is the book very beautiful, but he has become an expert in his own right. With a year-2000 interest in things retro, marbles are enjoying a boom. We now have jars of them everywhere, looking great and, according to this great book, appreciating in value as we watch. With the help of the pricing guides we discovered that we already owned some very valuable marbles, and have since acquired more. In fact, the book paid for itself about 10 minutes after we got it, with the discovery of an unrecognized treasure.

There are some ok ideas in this book but it suffers greatly from a cramped layout. It's not easy to browse and most of the photo are cropped so close one almost feels claustrophobic just flipping through the pages

Although there are pictures scattered throughout the book, they are mainly of small details and accents, rather than a total view of the houses. Also, it seemed that some of the pictures were not even of the design that was being featured. I found it difficult to get any perspective of relative dimensions or the overall feel of the design from simple line drawings and floor plans. Perhaps a better book for someone more familiar with architectural drawings than for someone just starting out and looking for inspiration. Finally, not many of the designs were of what I would call a cottage, with square footage at, or higher than most average homes.

This lovely book proves that a picture is worth a thousand words. I am in the beginning stages of planning my dream retirement home, and I have been looking for a few select books to convey the sense of style I want. This book is the best I have found so far. Tredway's designs are very well thought out -both beautiful AND liveable looking. There are lots of photos of completed structures along with the floor plans and elevations. Please note that as of 11/03/01, the web-site listed in the book is not working. Highly recommended book.

This is design before the Mac. Wozencraft has collected some of Brody's best work and presented them in a concise and inviting manner. From a designer's perspective it is astounding to see how Brody handles type and image in the pre-Mac design environment.

The cover is best thing about this now dated attempt to locate design not just in the work of an elite world of artists and designers, but also in the "vernacular"-that is, the everyday items that surround us. To that end, the book positions "found" items such as shipping boxes, torn up billboards, and scraps of paper next to commercial packaging, next to highly designed pieces. What happens is that next to same old overdesigned catalog spreads, arty CD packaging, and industry self-promo pieces, the found objects become a lot more interesting. Of course, I didn't need a book to tell me that, a simple walk down my litter-strewn and graffittied street does the trick just as well. The editors try and get all clever by not putting designer credits next to the pieces, instead printing them on removable stickers in the rear.

This book isnt what I expected when I first recieved it. When I first skimmed through this book my initial reaction was- I have seen most of this stuff before and its good, and the content I had not seen was what I thought to be ... but its not. When you stop skimming and start reading and really looking at what is presented in this book you will realize the point it is making. This book is not full of the greatest pieces of graphic design and it wasnt meant to be. Instead it is a differant look at design. It is communication through dimensions and the vernacular. What impressed me most about this book is that after looking through it I got alot of new ideas.

This is one of those books I constantly use for reference. Nevill Brody for those of you who dont know is one of Englands preminent designers. This book is ricly colored and pleaseing to look at. As you would expect from the man who did the original layout for The Face and many other fringe magazines. The only problem I had with this book was the lack of relavent commentary from Brody himself. However, I feel this is still (along with Vol.1) a must read for and aspiring graphic designer.

In this second collection of Brody's work, it presents to us his use of the computer and its influence on his design. While his older work was more conservative, yet still radical for its time, his recent work truly embraces the digital age. It surpised me how easily Brody , a more traditional designer, can translate his ideas to a digital medium, but his work will continue to drive young designers to "copy" or to be inspired by his work.

Neville brody is one of the best contemporary graphic designers, he needs no further presentation. This book is a collection of some of the great works he produced, going from magazine editorials and stamps, to publicity. It is a great inspiration source for me, for those working with graphic design and for those who simply like to appreciate a good artist an his work. If you want enjoy with the use of the typography and with all the effects that Brody uses this is your book. He designs in this book the best typefont: FF Blur.
