"New York Times bestselling author Jim DeFelice's unconventional hero, FBI Special Agent Andy Fisher, returns in a chilling novel of international terror within our national borders. North Korean scientists have developed a new weapon -- the ""E Bomb."" It can render useless any electronic system within a ten-mile radius. Andy Fisher isn't sure such a device actually exists, but when a terrorist group claims to have acquired it -- along with a cache of deadly sarin gas -- he isn't going to take any chances. The threat is more immediate than Fisher suspects: the terrorists are already proceeding toward their objective. With the lives of millions hanging in the balance, as well as the leadership of the free world, Fisher races against the clock to stop a nightmarish plague from being unleashed.... "

More of what makes DeFelice the Schwarzenegger of techno-thrillers.......2005-12-23
DeFelice's books are always good stories. Threat Level Black invites you into the cold steel world of hot conflict. I don't read DeFelice to restart the world's turbine; I read him because his books obey the first law of well-told tales: they provide temporary transportation from here to there. TLB is a lot of fun, with odd-lot characters and a compelling plot. I read the book while on a flight from NY to LA, finishing it just after the drop of landing gear. Now that's transportation.

The previous reviewer sited some examples of poor editing that are valid. Surely they must be embarrassing to the author and the editor.
We need not make a snide remark about readers with too much time on their hands, need we?
This did what it was supposed to do -- it whisked me away in a story, with people I cared about, an outcome I rooted for, and killed a couple of lunch hours grave yard dead, which is all I ask from a work like this. Thanks, Mr. DeFelice!
Sure, there were shills, placekeeping characters, those that exist to deliver one line. I'm not sure about Howe's friend, Alice, for instance. Awfully fickle, that one, and inexplicably so. But, hey, people are that way.
I'll buy the next one, just to keep up. Recommended.
Too many loose ends.......2005-03-18
A few inconsistencies: a guy being killed one way and then the killing referred to by Kuong as being something else entirely, a sentence attributed to Howe when he wasn't present and Blitz was the obvious speaker, among others. The witty sarcasm of Fisher helped keep the entertainment level up where the facile plot manipulations and shallow character developement would sometimes elicit a "Say what?" The book left me feeling like I had just seen the first installment of "24 Hours" or something. I don't feel compelled to buy the next one to find out how everyone's coming along or if Fisher is able to defeat the anti-smoking nazis.

Book Description
In Los Angeles, Angel and Buffy compare notes and realize that both are dealing with cases of missing teenagers -- most of them children of the rich and powerful. Coincidence? They don't think so. But when Buffy checks in with Giles, she learns that prime-time doomsday has hit Sunnydale, taking precedence over the gang warfare in L.A.
Back in her hometown, Buffy finds the doorway through which the monsters are gaining all-access passes to our universe. Renegade scientists have discovered how to open the portals from one reality to the next, which could explain where the teens are hidden. But when you're operating near a hellmouth, opening dimensional portals is tricky business: you never know who -- or what -- you're going to attract. With the lives of the kidnapped teens and one dangerously talented young woman at stake, Buffy and Angel join forces to do battle in the uncharted dimension....

Door to Alternity.......2003-12-23
"Door to Alternity" continues the "Unseen" triligy with the connection between missing children in L.A. and monsters appearing in droves in Sunnydale becoming clearer. Team Angel and The Scobbie Gang are working harder than ever as they try to solve the mysteries and keep the monsters under control. Also the reason for all these strange occurences becomes clear; it dates back to a Cold War science experiment by the KGB to alter reality, all for the glory of the State. Now it is being used to try to blackmail prominant U.S. citizens to bring back the glory days. Also a gang war brakes out between the Mexican Mob and the Russians. All of this makes for a very complicated story, there is a lot going on. Sometimes it gets a little confusing, but never so bad you can't follow the story. It was ok, but certainly suffering from being the bridge book. You have a lot of information and set up for the last book.

The only reason im giving this book 2 stars is because of buffy good looks and willow"s magic powers but apart from that this story is bull theres too much talking and stuff going on and theres practicaly no action i thought buffy slayed demons but this is in about 5 places at once and its really confusing safe your money and get the best buffy book Tales Of The Slayer
Not the best, but has interesting moments..........2001-11-05
Mainly seems to be setting things up for the finale. Had some moments I found intriguing, and some interesting perspective on Buffy/Angel during the time of Buffy/Riley, but its nowhere near up to the level of the Christopher Golden/Nancy Holder collaborations.
Ok...but.........2001-09-17
the next book, the Long Way Home was better. I didn't buy The Burning, but I don't think I missed much. This book just wasn't very interesting to me. The Long Way Home wasn't even that great, but it was better than this book. It's missing something that I can't quite put my finger on.

Book Description
ÂIn his vision Odin saw a ring, glittering and bright, a thing of great beauty and danger. And the face of a mortal man, stern and beautiful, his fair hair blowing in the wind of battle as the fire-edged sword in his hand rose and fell So Odin, lord of the nine worlds, saw Sigurd Dragonslayer for the first time. He alone could recapture the ring of power from the cruel dragon Fafnir. In his effort to regain the ring, Odin ensnared Sigurd and the race of the Volsungs in his schemes * for if he failed, it would mean the beginning of Ragnarok, the end of all worlds Set in the savage, beautiful world of Norse legend, this is the epic quest of romance, enchantment, adventure and treachery from which Richard Wagner created his magnificent operatic cycle, The Ring of the Nibelung. William Morris said of the tale of Sigurd, ÂThis is the great story of the North, which should be to all our race what the tale of Troy was to the Greeks.Â
Customer Reviews:
A masterful retelling of the Ring Saga.......2006-09-20
Victoria Randall takes an ancient legend and makes it relevant for today's reader. Her retelling of 'The Ring of the Nibelung' is compelling and real. I was riveted by the machinations of Odin, thrilled by the exploits of Sigurd, and chilled by the treachery of Albric. Truly, this is a tale that has been told thousands of times by thousands of scribes, bards, and artists. Few have captured the intensity and power of this mythology as well as Randall. I highly recommend this outstanding novel -- from beginning to end, a modern classic. Wil Radcliffe - author of Noggle Stones.
An epic, enthralling tale.......2003-09-21
The Ring Of The Dark Elves is a work of fantasy by Victoria Randall who draws from Norse legend for her story. Utilizing the same mythic conflicts that drive Richard Wagner's immortal operatic cycle, "The Ring of Nibelung", The Ring Of The Dark Elves tells of Oden's efforts to hold off the onset of Ragnarok by ensnaring Sigurd's service and using him to regain the ring of power from the ruthless dragon Fafnir. An epic, enthralling tale, The Ring Of Dark Elves is entertaining and imaginative storytelling and a highly recommended addition to personal and community library Science Fiction & Fantasy collections.
Well-written retelling.......2003-09-17
The Ring of the Dark Elves is the latest novel by author Victoria Randall, and this award-worthy offering is a fantastic read. The story is a retelling of the Norse myth of dragonslayer Sigurd Fafnirsbane. She adroitly weaves together a story that is part epic fantasy, part mythology, part romance, and full of heart-rending tragedy.
The plot is prodded on by Odin One-Eye, the leader of all the immortals who dwell in Asgard. Strong as he is, he cannot escape the strands of fate which have decreed that the end of the world, the dreaded day of Rangarok, is coming to engulf them all. His willingness to sacrifice anything dear to him to put off this day as well as his need to enforce the laws of the world cause grief for god and mortal alike.
Soon the dark elf Albric manages to oversee the formation of a magical ring. Now, new events are set in motion, for it is an object of beauty and power like no other. Odin and Loki manage to steal the ring by treachery, and Albric lays a curse on the ring and whoever bears it. The troll turned dragon Fafnir manages to win the ring from Odin, and Odin must swear that neither he nor anyone under his command will try to recover the ring.
Undaunted, Odin now turns his attention to the Volsungs, the race of humans whom he both loves and torments above all others. From there, aloof, he must direct their development into mighty warriors, which is not always to their benefit. Sigund is the last of the Volsungs, and the only man ever to be completely without fear.
Randallýs prose is a joy to read. One gets the sense that she has spent a great deal of time on the work, choosing each word carefully. When she canýt seem to find the perfect word, she makes her own compound words. The reader immediately knows both what she was trying to say and that the word is the perfect fit for the situation. Thus, we read about the ýpuddles gleaming with reflected starshineý the time when ýcold-bladed fear struck his
heartý or when Brynhild was ýheartscalded within by grief and wrathý
This is one of the best fantasies that I have read in years. In the tradition of the Brothers Grim, these fairy tales are more for adults and older children. The story is marked by violence, sexual situations, and heart-wrenching sorrow. Although not as well-known as some other tragic myths, Randallýs new retelling will do much to make the story of Sigund as cherished as that of Oedipus, Romeo and Juliet, and other tragic heroes.

Even though I am a fan of all things Norse and Viking, I was a bit hesitant to read this book, mainly cause my brother was pushing it on me. But he was right!! This was a wonderful book! I didn't put it down, until I was more 3/4 of the way through it and that was at 5 AM. A really good job by Victoria Randall
So easy to read, so engrossing a story!.......2003-07-01
I really enjoyed The Ring of Dark Elves. I was effortlessly sucked into the story by the second page. The Norse Gods are familiar, and Mrs. Randall fleshes them out with wonderful, relevant touches. There was just enough humor and romance to keep me jolly, and the pace was perfect! I was able to pick this book up, and put it down again effortlessly. The storyline moved seamlessly, and kept my interest level high. I got a kick out of the Gods aging rapidly, at the beginning, and I loved everything to do with the lovely and luscious Brynhild! A great book for a busy person to get lost in, without disturbing their routine. I'd read another book by Victoria Randall.

A great find.......2006-05-19
I received a tip about this book from my daughter's preschool teacher. They use it for school and when I picked it up, I expected this to be a teacher's manual. It does have lots of education material and should be a class! My husband and I enjoyed the funny little stories and I really got some great tips on the kinds of toys to buy for our preschool daughter and her newborn sister. Already, we have more toys that we probably need but this is a great guide to help us as the girls get older and then ask for everything. It really helps you put a value on the dollars you spend on toys these days. This is a great book for first time parents to read before they start toy shopping. There is a great chapter about technology toys.
I just love this book! .......2006-03-19
I can't stop reading this book! Each chapter is better than the previous one and there is SO much I learned about toys. I'm pregnant with my first child and my mom bought me this book as a gift. She told me that I need to know everything about toys now so I do not make the same mistakes as my siblings who bought way too many toys that my nieces and nephews rarely play with. This is an amazing resource for preschool and kindergarten teachers too and the best part is that this book does not dictate what toys are the best. The reader is left to decide that based on what the authors have taught you. It's really a parenting book and class all in one! They have a website too.... toytips.com lists tons of toy reviews based on research for you to review. I LOVE that! I've looked at other websites that have reviews and opinions of a few parents and their experiences with specific toys but this is so much better than that! Great find. Great buy! Thanks, Mom!
From an Emergency Room Nurse.......2006-01-24
I read this review from Fagan (below) and have to add to it. I am an emergency room nurse and we see many toy-related injuries. Most could have been prevented. I think if parents took the time to understand the importance of buying age-appropriate toys and then took the time to play with their children, we might see less accidental injuries. I bought a copy to keep at the hospital for our health care workers who will benefit from reading this book. It's nice to see two authors who care so much about what they write about. Thank you to Ms. Marianne Szymanski and Ms. Ellen Neuborne.
Excellent, Excellent Book.......2006-01-21
I am a pediatrician living in Ireland. A friend of mine in the United States told me about this book that he uses as a reference to help his patients with toy-related questions (categories of toys appropriate by developmental age, safety, etc.) He bought me a copy for Christmas. After reading this book, I realized that not only is this book helpful to parents but also to physicians. Toy safety and selection is not a course that is taught in medical school and this book is ideal for all pediatricians. I am familiar with other toy-rating and toy-suggestion books published and none come close to the detail and amount of research put into this book. If anyone is looking for a gift for their pediatician, this is IT!
Review from a dad.......2006-01-11
I'm a stay at home dad who bought toys for my 5 kids this Christmas. I bought this book to learn how to choose and what kinds and types are better to buy. This book gave me the confidence I needed to figure out what toys were best for Lilly, Max, Zoe, Kate and Nick versus what they asked for (Xbox and Ipod, Barbie and My Little Pony) I made some good choices and I was pleased that they actually play with them. It seemed we have so many toys from last year that are just sitting in the playroom. I really like the chapter that talks about family board games. I never really thought about this before and now we play games every friday night (weeknights are out because of homework, ballet practice and swimming!) My wife thinks I am a genius and I'm never telling her this book helped me but I think it can help other guys like me so I felt compelled to write this review for all the other dads out there like me!
Book Description
Long lauded as one of the world's most revered culinary instructors, French-born Madeleine Kamman's career arose from remarkably humble beginnings in central France. As a young woman, Madeleine got her training by working in a family restaurant in Touraine and in the kitchens of France's most respected regional cooks, who nourished her appetite for the tradition, rigor, and personal nature of cooking. Her exuberant and colorful memoir of that timeoriginally published over 25 years agotells of collecting mussels at the shore, churning butter from the milk of village cows, gathering mushrooms in nearby woods, and then transforming them into glorious food under the tutelage of her informal mentors. Over 250 recipes for the simple dishes she learned at their sides illustrate her evocative reminiscences of a bygone era in rural France. Part travelogue, part social history, part instruction manual, this classic is required reading for anyone who wants to know more about the life, times, and tastes of a woman who has helped shape American cooking.
Customer Reviews:
A leading book of 'culinary anthropology'. Buy It!.......2005-08-30
`When French Women Cook' by Madeleine Kamman is one of the very best in a genre which may be called culinary anthropology, a genre closely related to the memoir and the survey of local cuisines, but still a bit different. It is more than a memoir in that it provides many useful recipes serving a much greater purpose than simply illustrations of an event or a point, as you find in, for example, Ruth Reichl's excellent memoirs. They are also a bit less than a full survey of a culinary terroir, as you may find in Paula Wolfert's excellent books, in that they tend to deal with the recipes of a specific group of people. The three other leading examples of this little genre are Patience Gray's `Honey from a Stone', Richard Olney's `Lulu's Provencal Kitchen', and Amanda Hesser's `The Gardner and the Cook'.
Madeleine Kamman is an odd duck in the pantheon of English language writers on French cuisine. She is really a cookbook author of the first order, especially with her excellent text `The New Making of a Cook', but she has always been a bit in the shadow of Julia Child, Elizabeth David, and Richard Olney. According to Child's biographer, there was even a substantial amount of rancor towards Child on Kamman's part, after the success of Child's book and TV shows and before Kamman achieved recognition with her original `The Making of a Cook'.
Like the other three notable books in this genre, this is a cookbook which is meant to be read from cover to cover. It's culinary content and its anecdotal introductions to each of the chapters are all great reading. The book tells the story of eight French women cooks, all of whom Mme. Kamman, who is herself, of French birth, knew before she left France for the United States in 1960 (coincidentally about the same time as Jacques Pepin, another major French culinary import to the US). As Shirley Corriher points out in her new Foreword, by some happy chance, the eight women came from a very diverse collection of French culinary centers. And, this diversity is easily one of the most useful and enjoyable aspects of the book. One sees clearly the difference between the cuisine of Normandy, laden with its apples and butter, and the cuisine of Alsace, for example, with its sauerkraut and sausages, so similar to its German neighbor's cuisine. So, this book becomes a major dissertation on examples of terroir, the French doctrine that is conveniently paraphrased as `What grows together, goes together'.
Ms. Kamman confirms the role of this book by insisting that there are many ingredients to many of these recipes that simply cannot be had in the United States. A major issue, for example is her claim that it is senseless for us to create `crème fraiche' in our kitchens, as there is simply no way we can reproduce the flavor and result obtained from the true French product. How idiosyncratic this position is can be seen from the fact that many cookbooks I have seen which presented French cuisine gives a recipe for `crème fraiche'. Interestingly enough, however, is the fact that Julia Child, in `Mastering the Art of French Cooking' allows that American cream typically doesn't match the butterfat content of the French product, but does allow that one can approximate the product by mixing in a little buttermilk and letting the mix stand for a bit. In Ms. Kamman's favor, she simply tells us to use heavy cream when the recipe calls for `crème fraiche'.
Ms. Kamman is also adapts the conceit that these recipes come from a time before the reign of the famous French male chefs and their Michelin stars. I won't belabor this point, but Madeleine is plainly wrong on this point as the male domination of commercial kitchens goes back at least to Antonin Careme and Escoffier. And, Michelin started giving out its restaurant stars in 1933, starting with the granddaddy of modern French cuisine, Ferdinand Point.
But getting back to the recipes, I find virtually all of them delightful to read and delicious in anticipating my trying them and tasting the results. Since the book's chapters and recipes are organized by person and by region in France, the recipes are not organized for easy location for a good dish for chicken or veal or artichokes. Gratin's, my favorite type of dish, for example, appear among the recipes for each of the eight chapters. This being so, it is almost a shame that Mme. Kamman took such great pains to give us a measure of the cost and the difficulty of the recipes, as one will generally not use this book to find quick or cheap recipes. For that, we go to Rachael Ray.
Nevertheless, these recipes are really top drawer in both selection and in the detail with which the author describes the procedures. One thing I really like about the text which may be a little intimidating to some readers is that while Ms. Kamman is very careful in describing things carefully, she does expect a modicum of knowledge about French cooking. Not every French culinary term is translated and you may have to consult her textbook for her preferences on what to put in the `bouquet garni', or even to find out what a `bouquet garni' is.
One of the surest tests of whether or not I like a cookbook is whether I anticipate the recipe for a dish and actually find a recipe for that very dish in the book. This happened as I ran across a gratin recipe for mushrooms and potatoes. This seemed to be such a natural dish that I thought it was inevitable that there should be such a recipe, and there was.
This book is highly recommended for anyone who likes to read about cooking in general.
Wonderfully simple and elegant.......2004-01-07
OK I bought this book on a whim. I'm not sure why I bought it over the other dozens of books on french cooking/lifestyle that I read the reviews about. I suspect it was on someone's list and they made it sound appealing. I have read it (parts of it I have reread). I have cooked many recipes from it. The book is appealing.
First, the recipes are wonderful. The saute of wild mushrooms is the best. The browned veal stock took me alot of research on epicurious.com (reviewing other recipes) to fill in the missing steps. Once I experimented with it, I thought it was excellent. I never appreciated the importance of homemade stock until I read this book. Now I have lots of it ready for defrosting. But the book has more to offer than recipes.
This book is perhaps at its best in that it sheds light on a way of life that has passed or is passing. It provides insight into the very different regions and origins of the people of early twentieth century France. I came away with a new appreciation for the people and their cuisine. A very worthwhile investment.
Extraordinarily good recipes, rich reading; a simple joy ........1998-04-26
I first encountered this book through the aisles of my public library. I re-checked it so many times that I had to see if it was still in print. To my happy surprise it was. I love it for the great recipes and the warm and rich memories of a by-gone time; though I did find mention of a place I had travelled to on my honeymoon in 1996--a qaint little town called Annecy, in France. She described her experience much as I had recalled my own happy time there! This book is simply enchanting and everything I've made from it has been a rewarding and deliciously wonderful dining experience. Try the Green Beans Brittany Style or the simple Escarole Salad. Really good!

Is it really possible to cook French food? I wonder how hard this recipe book will be...probably impossible. Aren't all French cookbooks a little hard to understand, my last one was...oh well, I have jet lag keeping me awake, I might as well read this somewhat interesting French cookbook my mother set out for me to read on our return from Europe...here goes!
Incredible! Amazing! When can I start cooking this food? I'm going to give this book as Christmas gifts to all my "Reader-Friends" because this isn't just a classy cookbook, this is an old world novel!
You'll never know that French cooking could be so de---liciously-romantic (need I go on?);
possible to cook? - even for the novice (like yourself!);
exciting! - because you can use all the taboo "fat" foods like butter and cream (we all know that butter and cream makes everything taste better), and without gaining weight (!!)...
Yes, you'll never know until you read "When French Women Cook" (similar to reading a classic, century-old-novel) that you too can actually cook this practical, sumptuous food and be known as a gourmet French chef. (well, almost!)
At least you can say you read this fantastic cookbook-novel that inspired you to cook these incredible tasting dishes! I think one should go to Madeleine Kamman's French Cooking School in France to really qualify as a pro French chef.
OK ?...Let's go!...Bonjour!
Book Description
Southeast Asian jewelry is eagerly sought by collectors around the globe. Once prized largely for its ethnographic interest, today it is recognized as a high art form. In a tour de force of original research and synthesis, involving years of study and extensive travel throughout the region, Anne Richter gives us the first comprehensive account of a jewelry tradition that stretches across millennia from the vigor of Neolithic and Bronze Age art to the present day.
Magnificent gold jewelry of classical Cambodia and Java, a man's ruby-eyed dragon ring from Thailand, silver work of the Vietnamese court, filigree bridal necklaces of Sumatra, jeweled belt buckles and tobacco boxes of Malaysia, royal gold sashes of the pre-Hispanic Philippines, adornment for remote hill peoples-the more than 300 pieces seen here, many previously unpublished, reveal a jewelry notable for its beauty and rich significance. The analyses of the symbolism shed new light on Asian cultures, while the aesthetic appeal of the items makes this volume irresistible for all jewelry lovers.
ANNE RICHTER, formerly a lecturer in Art and Design at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, is an authority on the arts and crafts of Southeast Asia. She has contributed to the Dictionnaire International du Bijou and is the author of Arts and Crafts of Indonesia and other volumes.

If you are an aspiring designer, it doesn't matter if you want it... you NEED it........2007-08-05
I was actually looking for a book to help me with my portfolio development... though it doesn't cover rendering techniques (it doesn't claim to) this book actually gives you such a clear idea of the entire design process, there are hardly any doubts left in your head after that. and it's so well written... oh and the pictures! they are just fantastic. This book is the second in the design secrets - products series... so it is very up to date and covers very recent products. I recommend this to anyone, not just aspiring designers, if products in general interest you. you'll never look at anything you buy the same way! it's just a brilliant book. and as for anyone looking to pursue design, you NEED it. if its too expensive for you, at least get a used copy!
Great resource!.......2005-09-10
I recently purchased this book for one of my design drawing classes. The teacher had specifically asked us to find examples of product design sketches. After looking everywhere for books on the subject this one turned out to be the most up-to-date in terms of techniques and the most complete. I also think it's a great reference book and gives a good overview of the product design process. I recently purchased this book for one of my design drawing classes. ...unbelievable, an excellent book!.......2006-09-29
This is an excellent book, im rereading it now..... Its amazing how one-sided certain situations seem and are presented...but when you take a closer look you see just how something like this affects and changes the lives of so many. This was an amazing book, I never knew, and can only say wow, what an amazing person.
People are stupid when they're young.......2005-08-30
If you never made a mistake in your younger years, raise your hand... No hands, right? Because everyone is stupid and naive in their younger years, some more than others. We were all naive at one point or another, and everyone out-grows that at different times. Paul Barbieri spoke the truth in her own perspective, just like every other author/PERSON on this planet. To tell a story without any bias or perspective is impossible, and that is a written and documented fact. She went through hell on earth and is now married to a lawyer in Panama City with a beautiful little girl. She has made many silly mistakes, but I think it is amazing that she came back from them. How many people today screwed up their lives while they were young and are now sitting on their rear ends with 15 kids, no spouse, sucking up unemployment checks! She made something out of her life telling her story. And if she managed to smack some sense into even one teenager out there currently making the same kinds of mistakes, then her book was worth it. I know Ms. Barbieri personally, I stayed with her on a college trip a few years ago. She is an amazing person and tells you how it is. She is not a writer, just one person trying to influence society with her story. And there is nothing wrong with that. Nothing.
pure lack of intellect and judgement.......2004-12-29
I don't know how someone could be so naive and promiscuous to beleive that OJ is a good man. Before reading this book, i read the 'reader reviews' to see what others thought of it. I read how bad this book was, but i was curious as to how naive this woman really was, i loaned the book from the local library. Even with the heads up from the reviews as to how much this book was lacking, i was still shocked at its content. i could not bring myself to read the rest of the book, therefore i only read the first half. so if the second half makes up for the first half's pure lack of thought, i give Paula credit for writing a good book...on second thought, even if the second half of the book made up for the first half, i still would not give her any credit for writing this...literature..if you can call it that. she didn't lose money from all of this, (as much as i would like to think this is not true) she earned 3 million dollars from it. if i were in Ms. Barbieri's shoes, i know one thing i would do is take my $3million, buy a private island and keep as far away from civilization as possible, to avoid any further humiliation from the public. and i would burn any of these books i owned to keep warm on my island, thats about the best use they have.
No remorse except for herself.......2004-05-22
This book is amazingly poorly written; Ms. Barbieri should have pursued her original plans to attend law school. Her writing perpetuates the myth that models and actresses are extremely self-centered. Never once does she mention any sorrow or remorse that a woman and man were murdered. Her pity is all for herself and how she "gave herself up" to falsely defend her lover and, in effect, to commit "perjury by silence and presence." Although it's true that nobody asked her if she'd left a "Dear OJ" e-mail on Simpson's voice mail just before she flew off to meet another man, she knew that this was crucial evidence. She also explains why she lied under oath about whether or not O.J. had ever been violent with her; she had "amnesia." What the book does provide--and that's why I read it--is a glance into the ultimate in dependency. I've always wondered why horrible killers, such as Ted Bundy, manage to attract women even after the world is pretty aware of what they've done. Paula Barbieri's book illustrates the strange magnetism that sociopaths can have when they find the right victim(s).
Re-Inventing the Past + Sins of Omission.......2001-11-01
To believe that Paula could ever tell any truth except for the way she perceives it and uses it for her own benefit is ludicrous. The omissions of the physical abuse and trips to the hosital have conveniently been left out. And, in order to move on, she has left all the people who not only supported her emotionally but financially and truly believes that she alone created her 3 million dollar fee for this book.
