Book Description
Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Ph.D., the internationally known poet, psychoanalyst, and author of the seminal classic Women Who Run With The Wolves (99 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, translated into eighteen languages, and a bestseller worldwide), touches our lives anew, rendering in the strong and lyrical voice for which she has become known a powerful series of her signature healing stories.
These elegantly interlocked tales of loss, survival, and fierce rebirth center around Dr. Estes's uncle, a war-ravaged Hungarian peasant farmer and refugee, a faithful gardener, and a storehouse of stories who was one of the "dancing fools, wise old crows, grumpy sages, and 'almost saints' who made up the old people" in Estés's childhood.
Told with graceful simplicity, deep feeling, generous humor, and profound optimism, The Faithful Gardener is, at its captivating core, the story of an open-hearted child who listened well to her old-country elders and who grew up to remember, to bear witness, and, as one of the premier storytellers of our times, to remind readers and listeners of all ages of "that magisterial life force within all things that strengthens us in times of turmoil or transition, that faithful force which can never die."

a pleasant surprise.......2007-05-22
As usual, Clarissa Pin Estes writes with tremendous insight. Her use of personal history brings the book's content and (atypically) short length to life. I think it would be wonderful as a gift to share with one's loved-ones.
The Faithful Gardener: A Wise Tale About That Which Can Never Die.......2006-11-10
A beautiful story that reminds us that the changes we fight against the most are the ones that take us where we want to go.
Loved it!.......2003-04-21
I listened to the tape and read the book. If you want to know the true nature of survival - especially in times like these - this is the book for you. Full of hope and evidence of the ability of humans to survive, thrive and love - no matter what. I was sorry the book was over. I am every time I read it.

Good things have roots in fallow ground...........2001-01-13
The stories are like layers of an onion where each depends on the one before it to exist. The horrors of war are only hinted at by the author's uncle but the reader easily draws parallels between the transitions in life with a fallow field, a fir tree covered with decorations and the emergence of new life and promise from a piece of fallow ground. The book is easily read in an hour and I blinked away tears as I finished. Since the first reading, my front lawn has been returning to Nature, just as the author's did, and every season of watching new life emerge reminds me of the story and that good things are always beginning.

Sizzling, hot, hot, hot!!!.......2005-06-26
Oooh, good! Almost too hot to handle! I have now ordered the other two books of the series. It is OK to read this one ahead of the others, but once you do, you will certainly want to read Sin City and French Quarter also. I will look forward to any new works from Ms. Alexander.
Ticket Please!.......2005-06-15
Lacey Alexander takes blissful hedonism to a whole new level in this blazingly brazen, passionately erotic story where the sun, sand, and sea are your one-way ticket to a wonderfully arousing story set in sunny and beautiful "Key West".
On the day Carrie Marsh, the conservative and responsible, good girl in the family, is to be married to Jon, her high school sweetheart, she finds him in a compromising situation with one of her bridesmaids. She calls the wedding off and decides to go solo on her "honeymoon" to clear her brain and figure out what to do next.
The wildly sexy Chris McCann lives a relatively carefree life under the blazing sun of Key West. Smart, wild and wickedly sinful, he is definitely not afraid to go after what he wants and from the moment he sets eyes on Carrie, what he wants is to knock the innocent angel's halo off kilter.
Carrie is a sexy, shy, innocent little angel the day she arrives in Key West... until the sizzlingly sexy, beach god, Chris McCann, teaches her that trading in her halo for some scorchingly erotic pleasures in his arms is just what she needs to realize that there is, indeed, life after Jon. Will Carrie's innocent angel side, or her daring devilish side prevail? Maybe if Chris is lucky, her angelic and devilish sides will come to the mutual understanding that the unadulterated bliss she finds in his arms can give her the best of both worlds.
"Key West" by Lacey Alexander is the third and final book in the "Hot in the City" series, and I was so disappointed that this story had to end. This has been one of the most erotic, and sexy series of stories I have had the pleasure of reading. I will be anxiously waiting to hear from some of the other sexy men and women that shared in the erotic adventures of "Hot in the City".
How hot can it get?.......2005-06-06
Sometimes with series the later books aren't as good as the first books...however that is not the case with this series. This book, the third and final book in the series, is just as hot and steamy and romantic as the first book. I am really sorry to see this series come to end as I have enjoyed learning about the sisters so much.
And it continues!.......2005-06-04
This book contines the Hot in the City Trilogy, and exceeds all of the expections of the series. It a fabulous book. Lacey Alexander is now on my automatic buy list!

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful Author.......2007-09-11
I really enjoyed Robert A. Heinlein and how he comes upon new concepts for his books. This one in particular was excellent.
Super Reader.......2007-08-26
This book is somewhat odd, and really, not that good. Heinlein's main character here is an old man, and he is transplanted into a young woman's body, and learns to experience things from the female perspective.
So, bits about the difference between the sexes and how they look at and thing about things, as some of her consciousness is still there.
thought provoking.......2007-05-24
the best science fiction is gedanken experiment, and so this is. So how far are we away from brain transplants? still a fair way, and with monstrous ethical issues. Heinlein's physics exceeds his biology, a field currently yielding rich insight, while his space program is taking shape, albeit much slower than envisaged, and as yet, lifeless.
the premise that brains can be cross-gender transplanted is flawed; male and female brains are now generally accepted as having different wiring. However, with that assumption given, the premise that "Eunice" is still active might be borne out by experiments on the body's nervous system showning that the neurons in the body can have some cognitive function.
The partnership of Eunice and Johann to present the resulting person as sane, competent and responsible is the best part of the book for me - the continuation of two lives who would otherwise be dead.
Interesting though, is the premise of complete sex change with no compromise as today's transgendered individuals have to put up with. Less believable is Johann's change to be sexually attracted to men after being clearly heterosexual, he should be then lesbian.
One of Heinlein's worst . . ........2007-03-15
. . . and this opinion coming from a person who truly enjoys much of Heinlein's material.
Actually, the premise of the story has a great deal of potential. The problem is, is that potential is never realized. The book is a poorly written, poorly edited hash. Other reviewers have noted that Heinlein was desperately ill when the book was being written and edited, and I suppose that provides some excuse -- for Heinlein. But not for his publisher!
Other reviewers have noted Heinlein's, shall we say, unconventional views of sexual relationships -- a theme which plays out in many of his later novels -- but even in the later novels, there is a coherency and a consistency -- even when he is at his most unusual. ("Time Enough for Love" has some truly tender moments.) But sexual behavior in "I Will Fear No Evil"? -- Just bizarre.
If you are a Heinlein fan who wants to read everything the Master ever wrote -- then read this -- considering the perspective of Heinlein's health at the time. But if this had been the first Heinlein novel I had read -- I probably would never have read any others -- and that would have been a great tragedy.
Ramblings II.......2006-05-02
I wanted to title my review "Ramblings of a dirty old man" but couldn't because that would have been plagerism! Speaking of bad writing, this is it! This is the worst book that I have ever not finished. The constant sex theme is easy to analyse when the main character is old and impotent - like the author maybe?
Heinlein did acknowledge the existance of someone/thing higher in this one. Maybe that was another idea that crept in in old age...
This may be interesting to people interested in transgender, but I wouldn't know because I am not. The idea is not new either, what man has not wanted to think like a woman for a day? But to do that I can read Friday. I remember liking that...

Beware: Christianity.......2007-06-08
If you are not interested in hearing about how a woman needed to 'find god' before she could take control of her life, forget this one. Read 'In My Skin' by Kate Holden, theres a woman who needed only her intelligence to find her way out of addiction.

Excellent book for anyone with a drug addiction and anyone facing the drug addiction of a loved one. Easy to read in one sitting. I am ordering more to give friends.
INSPIRING.......2007-02-11
THIS WAS AN EXCELLENT BOOK. I FOUND IT HARD TO PUT DOWN. ALSO AN EASY READ. I RECOMMEND IT FOR EVERYONE.

Book Description
A unique workbook to help women cultivate their full potential through the lives and lessons of the heroines of world spiritual traditions.
Filled with exercises, anecdotes, quotes, and inspiration, Pythia Peay's Soul Sisters is designed to help women foster the traits that can be found in the great spiritual traditions of the world, and that are most needed in contemporary life. Each chapter shows how to cultivate the five "divine qualities": Courage, Faith, Beauty, Love, and Magic.
Soul Sisters offers an abundance of examples of different female figures from the spiritual past and present who have embodied these characteristics in a distinctly feminine way. Through the road they have walked, readers can learn to discover their own individual heart-path to these strengths.
Both an immensely practical workbook and an education in spiritual ideas, Soul Sisters is a companion for a lifetime.

Finding the Path Back to Myself.......2007-01-12
"At the midpoint of life's journey,
I found myself lost in a dark forest
with no straight path I could see anywhere." ~Dante, "Divine Comedy"
This book is helping me find my way back from the abyss of confusion and indecision that I've been dangling precariously over for more than a year. To say this book is enlightening is much too mild. It's life-affirming, life-changing, empowering, soul-nourishing and uplifting. It's overflowing with quotes worthy of sky-writing! Would that I could do that for all women to read!!!
This is one of those books that needs a galaxy of stars.
A GIFT FROM THE GODDESS.......2005-07-27
This is a remarkable book. Well-thought out, inspirational and well-researched. The stories of the author, her "soul sisters" and figures from her-story are clean and clear and relevant. The exercises are simple and thought provoking. A wonderful gift to re-ignite the feminist spirit in any woman and to compliment traditional and non-traditional religious paths! Get one for all your soul sisters and form a circle as suggested-I sense it will focus your life and change the face of women in the world!
A Spiritual and Creative Awakening.......2002-11-27
In August, I found myself creatively blocked. At the time, I was unable to move forward on four projects due in November. One day, my frustration level hit the roof. I could not see past the list of things to do and the shrinking timeline. I questioned whether I had the courage and faith to serve as a vessel for each project's creative expression. I left my day job in a daze. As I walked up Massachusetts Avenue, Spirit guided me to Kramer's Books on Dupont Circle. I wasn't sure what I would find, but my soul knew there was something wonderful waiting for me on Kramer's bookshelf. Within twenty minutes of perusing the women's book section, my eyes fell upon Pythia's book. I opened it and read the introduction. One passage captured my attention: "Indeed, the gift of the women's liberation movement has been to show that the talents of women do not just shine in marriage and in child-raising, but in all spheres of life, from politics and sports to art, science, religion, journalism, medicine, and business. Thus, in the last decades of the twentieth century, women's wide ranging creativity has flourished as never before. This historic watershed has opened up endless vistas of possibility for women, allowing them an unprecedented opportunity to experience precious freedoms so long enjoyed by men." Pythia's words described the essence of who I was as a child born in the sixties ... a beneficiary of the women's liberation movement. She reminded me that my creative projects were a blessing despite the temporary appearance of any blocks.
Unable to put the book down, I continued reading the introduction, savoring each word ... each insight ... each revelation that Pythia shared from her own experience. Her reflections on "growing up in the Catholic Church and as a student in a spiritual organization headed by a man" resonated within my soul. Like her, I grew up Catholic and always felt that the religion diminished my ability to serve as an altar girl and worship fully as a whole spirit. Her comments on the power of the goddess movement affirmed my unique spiritual path and creative expression. She helped me see that they were "a beautiful quilt made from discarded fabrics." By the time I finished the introduction, a light had reappeared in my spirit and a bond between a reader and an author was solidified. So I did what any smart person would do ... I purchased the book.
In the weeks following my purchase, the book became the magical elixir I was seeking to awaken my spirit and unblock my creativity. The first chapter on courage introduced me to Judith Jordan's concept of "supporting courage in others." It reminded me of how my mother has been a never-ending source of support. As I have matured, I have been able to return the gift. Together, we share a "courage connection." This insight guided me in completing my short story about a mother-daughter relationship. I greatly appreciate Pythia's selection of stories that illustrated the "courage connection." My favorite is the story of Jane Holmes Dixon and Diane Rehms. It confirmed what I always knew ... that next to Creator, women friends are one of the greatest sources of listening ears, compassion, prayers, and affirmation. Pythia's section on Warrior Queens from History featuring Sojourner Truth made me smile because she is a personal ancestor that I call upon regularly for strength. It also helped me embrace my own personal motto. After reading the story of Isak Dinesen's motto, "Pourquoi Pas? (Why not?), I declared it to be mine. The written exercise on writing the epic of my bravest deeds was cathartic. Making the list took some time. At first, I judged what were my bravest deeds. In the middle of the process, I threw caution to the wind and allowed my pen to dance across several journal pages that I can now use when I get frustrated or feel like I want to quit. The exercise itself was a demonstration of courage. The list of epic deeds paints a picture of a heroine that I can call my own ... me. The exercise on invoking an invisible companion reconnected me to the power of one of my personal goddesses, Sekhmet, a Kemetian/Egyptian goddess who represents courage.
Often times, I move through life so fast that I forget to acknowledge the importance of women friends serving as "faith-holders" in my life. Pythia's second chapter on faith refreshed my memory when she shared her friend Susan's explanation: "women act as faith-holders for one another. What she means by this is that a true soul sister can help her friend stay focused on her quest to live her best life and fulfill a cherished ideal. By doing this, a woman helps keep faith in her friend's unlived potential, even when the rest of the world is doubting or rejecting her goals as impossible dreams." This passage was eye opening because I have not always made the wisest decisions in who I have selected to be my friends. It has become my measure of friendship.
Pythia taught me that selecting "faith-holders" is as important as maintaining an arsenal of inspirational faith walkers. I have added Jane Holmes Dixon to my personal arsenal. Her faith walk journey led to her participation at the Democratic Convention as a panel moderator despite peer discouragement. Completing the exercise on creating a testament of faith gave me a blueprint of beliefs and convictions that would ground and guide me as I pursued my creative projects.
The chapters on courage and faith were the most instrumental in my spirit's awakening and creative breakthrough because they helped me surrender and trust the divine process. I learned how to be a holy vessel ... a soul sister manifesting courage, faith, beauty, love and magic.
Soul Sisters - Pythia Peay.......2002-11-25
This amazing book is so beautifully written and deeply researched that one will come back to it over and over again. It is full of inspirational stories of women past and present, renowned and ordinary, as well as the authors personal stories. I have given copies to friends who all feel the urge to share it with others.
intriguing journey into my own soul.......2002-07-04
As a born-again Christian, I wasn't sure I would enjoy the variety of feminist, mystical, Sufi, Buddhist, etc. experiences this book explores, but I found it fascinating and enriching. Peay is incredibly well-informed, serious, caring, and thoughtful.
I have purchased this book as a gift for many friends of different religious backgrounds, and all have treasured it.

Book Description
Each issue of Metropolitan Home magazine is filled with photographs of some of the world's most beautiful houses. But making your own home special isn't just about copying photos. Good designers have a vision of what they want to create, and come up with a plan for how best to achieve it. Understanding first the ideas, and then the methods, is the key to taking a house from drab to fabulous. In this book, Michael Lassell, who has been writing for Metropolitan Home since 1992, goes behind the photos. He uncovers the secrets of the professionals by asking: What did the designer want to do? And how did the designer do it? Each room or style is accompanied by insider's tips where designers reveal their trade secrets. In each case, introductory text explores the homeowner's and designer's goals. The book also explores how they achieved those goals: a "key to the style" box explains the designer's approach with a few key concepts; and "What the Pros Know About" boxes explains how the designer went from ideas to reality. With 200 color photographs, Decorate provides all the inspiration and expertise to help any home decorator find and achieve high style.

Outstanding.......2005-12-06
Last year I bought RENOVATE, created, like this one, by the Metropolitan Home team. Since I liked it so much, I had to buy this one as well! What a great book: I am closing on a home in a few weeks, and I am eagerly looking for inspirational books. Of all the ones I purchased this season, this one is the best. While it has wonderful images, it does give many tips to get the look of your choice. I highly recommend it.
Book Description
Throughout his career as a designer, Karel Martens has created uncommissioned and uncompromised artistic work for his friends and for himself -- projects he kept apart from his celebrated graphic design work and only rarely allowed to be seen in public. Using metal plates, washers, and other found objects, Martens created prints in small numbers and as single objects. Karel Martens: Counterprint is the first publication devoted to Martens's prints. Printed in a limited edition of 2,000 and bound with folded, uncut leaves -- like his best-selling design monograph Printed Matter -- Counterprint is more than a book; it is an art object that will be valued by artists, typographers, and graphic designers for its extraordinary content and high-quality production and design.
Carel Kuitenbrouwer provides a short introduction and Paul Elliman contributes an essay entitled "The World as a Printing Surface."

Good&Interesting Book.......2006-09-04
wo of America's most Important Icons who changed there respective Games. Tupac left a Lasting impression on Hip-Hop as did Elvis on Pop Music. I dig how the Writer brought there Worlds together&tied it in as one. interesting thing about the both of them is that the Industry had a hand in there way too soon death's each when you think about it.
A caveat is in order...buyer beware.......2005-04-28
While I believe in the old saying, "if you don't have something good to say about someone or something, don't say it", but in this case, I feel compelled to alert consumer's about this product. I am a big fan of Elvis, {despite what some people may say about him, the man could sing his heart out}. I know little about Tupac, so I figured this would be a good primer on Tupac's life and times. I really tried to get into it, but I found the book riddled with spelling and grammatical mistakes. There's no excuse for this, as it throws the reader off; it threw me off a few times. Also, the lyrics to "Hard Headed Woman", were printed under the title of a different song. Just an example of annoying mistakes. The content is fairly weak for serious Elvis fans; the author glosses over the life of a complex human being. I was keen on understanding how the two celebrities could be linked [either spiritually or musically, or any other way], but I could not see it. I was disappointed, but it's too bad because I really thought the idea was cool. And why no credits for the grainy photos ? Save your money, and spend it on your honey.
tupac and elvis.......2003-11-05
I recomend this book, because the author kept it real. I really did enjoy this book. I read it a lot, because I'm fans of the hip hop world as well as the rock world. Great work.
Tupac and Elvis.......2003-11-05
I give this book 5 stars because of its originality. I've always thought that Tupac was dead and this book gave me my confirmation along with some entertainment. The authors own theories were compelling, as well as his thoughts. Well done.
Tupac and Elvis: Inevitably Restless.......2003-11-04
Tupac and Elvis is a fine book. I bought it for my teenager and he loved it. I'm not a huge fan of either, but when I read it, I was smitten and excited by it. So I give it four stars for its realism.
