I enjoyed this book. This was my first time reading one of this author's books. I must say it was a great read and look forward to her next book.

It was good, read it twice, but i hated the grammar and punctuation misuse.

5 out of 5 stars Good Read.......2006-03-20

I enjoyed this book. I gave it five stars because it was a very well written book with a believable story line. The characters were well developed, especially the main character. You go through the ups and downs that she goes through from the time she is a teenager until she is an adult at the end. I particulary enjoyed this book because you lived the street life through the main character and you seen how real and grimy it is. A very good book!

3 out of 5 stars The Game Chose Who?.......2006-01-24

From start to finish this book was a good read, and I can honestly say I have never read a setup scene like the one that went down in this book. Just when you think you have everything (...)Great first book for Ebony. Outside of the obvious spelling and grammatical errors the story was very interesting.

5 out of 5 stars Eb, keep ya head up and never mind what the haters say!!!!!!.......2005-10-04

Ok, so I started not to write a review, but when I came across a hater I felt compelled to write it.

This book is HOT from cover to cover!!! I loved the way it started off and I loved the way it ended. Everything in between will have you laughing, crying, at times feeling sorry for Mahogany and other times wanting to slap homegirl and bring her back to reality.

The way Miss Ebony put it down with this novel it will have you feeling connected to the characters throughout this story.

Overall, this was a great read just like her first book. I really cannot understand how ANYONE can honestly say after reading this, The Game Chose Me deserved any least than four 1/2 stars.

I applaud Ebony not just for her writing, but for Everything that she does. Miss lady is a survivor foreal and that's why she has my support 4 LIFE!!!

I can't wait until she drops something else.

Book Description

In Darrien Lee's much-anticipated sequel to All That and a Bag of Chips, readers meet up again with Craig Bennett, who is still wary of love even years after his affair with Venice Taylor.

This compelling continuation of the Craig Bennett and Venice Taylor saga reveals Craig to be still smarting from Venice's decision to marry her high school sweetheart despite the passion she and Craig shared during their college romance. Devastated by the loss, Craig has dedicated himself to building his company, Bennett Architectural, Inc., into a multimillion-dollar empire and rising to career success. However, his personal life is not quite as fruitful -- even though he has had several meaningless flings with beautiful, intelligent women -- due to the impenetrable wall of regret preventing him from reaching out to another woman. As fate would have it, Craig finds himself faced with a challenge that tests his will, trust, and capacity to love and forces him to confront the issues that have been plaguing him for the past seven years.

In Been There, Done That Darrien Lee crafts a fascinating novel complete with intricate relationships, life-changing decisions, and painful matters of the heart.

4 out of 5 stars Love will find a way.......2007-08-18

The end of All that and a bag of chips left me wondering, but it was obvious what was going to happen. Sad, but not like I could do anything about it. I'd wanted Craig and Venice to get back together anyway. I think this was an almost perfect sequel to the first one. They'd been separated for years and found each other again after tragedy. Gives hope that there's not just one Soul mate for us our there.

1 out of 5 stars L-A-M-E!.......2007-07-21

This book is ridiculously predictable and unrealistic, starting with the title. The first book in this series was pretty good, although amateurish. This sequel made me roll my eyes numerous times, from the MULTIPLE typos to the absolutely contrived story line.

I like happy endings, but it gets old when pretty much everything Venice could ever want is handed to her (AGAIN), while she whines and vacillates unnecessarily. Glad I got this one from the library! Check out Donna Hill's books for a more mature, captivating and well-written storyline. I'm hooked!

5 out of 5 stars A complete circle.......2007-01-12

Getting pass the typos this was a great book, I've read them in order and is very happy I did. I an now hooked on this author's work.

4 out of 5 stars Great Sequel.......2006-11-06

This was a great follow up to All That and A Bag of Chips. I really enjoyed following the story of Craig and Venice. I have great admiration for Ms. Lee, keep up the great work!

4 out of 5 stars I agree with the title.......2006-08-06

I'd have to say that I agree with the title of this book, because I really felt like I had Been There, Done that when reading it. Why? Because this book had more typos and more unbelieveable stuff happening in it. So, why did I give it 4 stars? Because, if you put all of that aside, you still had a good story.

The main characters are back in this sequel to "All That And A Bag Of Chips", but this time tragedy strikes head on with the death of Jarvis. Some how, Craig and Venice find there way back to each other, but someone still wants to throw a wrench into their plan of being together.

Overall, it's still a good read if you can get past the typos, because I'm buying the next book "What Goes Around, Comes Around" just to see what happens to Craig's best friend Skeeter.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A decent paperback sampling of 2004's more notable short SF.......2006-07-07

Like volume #6 in this series, I found #10 to be a fairly entertaining collection of short form science fiction, with the stories, "Burning Day", "Venus Flowers at Night", "The Battle of York", and "Strood" standing out especially. Not constrained to any one corner of the SF field, this volume wanders all over, from sociological to hard, from military to dystopic to fantastic. "Red City" especially strikes me as a tale which could just as easily have been classified a fantasy, and save for the mumbo jumbo about the time curve, it is right at the edge of the two genres.

Like past volumes, #10 also has a couple of stories which try entirely too hard to be deep. "The Risk-Taking Gene as Expressed by Some Asian Subjects" tries to be many things at once: hard SF, sociological SF, and Quentin Tarantino movie. Not sure how well it acquits itself in any of these fields. "Savant Song" is the same, only without the action, and served as a rather anticlimactic ending to the book.

Still, the enjoyable material outweighed the boring or pretentious material, and if you're wanting to get your feet wet in various writers' mental playgrounds without having to plunge in over your head, I would recommend this book.

One warning though: I don't think this is a great book for newcomers to SF. People unfamiliar with the genre, or who are just beginning to graduate to the wider SF realm and move away from the tie-in scene (aka: Star Wars, Star Trek, Stargate, et al) might find this a slow, somewhat tedious read.

4 out of 5 stars 2004 wasn't the best year for SF.......2006-06-08

Yes, it's another year of "Best of" anthologies, and Year's Best SF 10, edited by David G. Hartwell & Kathryn Cramer, covers all the best science fiction stories from 2004. Yes, that's right. I'm a year behind. So sue me.

Hartwell & Cramer gives us a wide variety of SF, from the hard stuff (though not much of it is really hard) to some alternate histories and some more character-based stories. In fact, either I'm growing a lot more tolerant or the hard SF was much lighter this time around. Each story was filled with vivid characters and some emotional characteristics, even when the emphasis was on scientific theory (such as the final story in the anthology, Brenda Cooper's "Savant Songs"). All in all, it's not as memorable a book as in year's past, but there is only one story that I couldn't get through. That was Steve Tomasula's "The Risk-Taking Gene as Expressed by Some Asian Subjects," originally published in Denver Quarterly, an issue filled with "fantastic fiction." While this one definitely falls in that category as far as subject matter, the beginning bored me to tears and I had to move on to the next one.

There were definitely some standouts, however. One of the better stories was "Venus Flowers at Night" by Pamela Sargent. Karim al-Anwar is a member of the Council of Mukhtars, the Islamic group that governs most of the Earth in a world where environmental ruin and other factors have brought down most of the West. He's on a tour of North America's Atlantic Federation, ostensibly to show the flag, but he also feels he's been sent away to punish him for his broad theories of terraforming Venus, or perhaps other creative endeavours that they don't want to hear. As he and his wife carry on their tour, he begins to lose himself in virtual recreations of the Venus he has dreamed of, trying desperately to figure out a way to get there, no matter how many generations and technological marvels must be created to facilitate it. As his journey continues, he meets somebody who may be able to help him on his way by approaching the problem from a different angle, enabling his dreams even as he fears he will be put out to pasture by the Council. I began this story with a bit of a chip on my shoulder, not buying into the world Sargent has created at all. However, she won me over as the story went on, creating a loving tribute to what science fiction, used by a creative mind, can inspire people to achieve. While the story isn't high on characterization of anybody but Karim, he is a joy to behold. Creative, visionary, and frustrated by the attitudes of his fellow council-members, his determination shines through in his attempts at a virtual reality reflecting his desires. Some of the transitions from the virtual to the real world are a bit jarring, but otherwise, this is a wonderful tale extolling one of the prime values of science fiction in general.

Probably my favourite story in the book, however, and definitely my favourite from 2004 (though it may not be the "best," it the one I liked the most) is James Stoddard's "The Battle of York." This story is simply awesome. In the year 2700 (or around there), much of Earth's history has been lost because so much of it was put on magnetic storage. But somebody tries to piece together a history of America, creating legends out trying to put as many facts in there as possible. The story is not told as a history, but as if it was a historical novel. Thus, we get "General Washington" with his trusty battle axe, Valleyforge, and his faithful steed, Silver. He's riding home from a war that he feels he's started, but he tries to take a shortcut through a forest. One night, a man appears at his fire, a man named Waynejon (though he's called "The Pilgrim"), who gives him a mission to go to Mount Rushmore to gain the Words of Power to defeat the Gauls and their giant that is going to be attacking York. But will he be able to face down his own guilt, gain allies, and bring the Words of Power back? Or will the four-headed monster at Rushmore kill him before he can even begin? This story means a lot more if you get the historical references, but even if you only get a few, there's enough here to make an entertaining story. It also really makes you wonder how well we've pieced together ancient history, given the lack of facts and only a few written documents to base it on? So it's thought-provoking too.

Other strong entries are Ken Liu's "Algorithms of Love," (where a female AI expert becomes obsessed with creating the perfect virtual child after losing her own daughter), Jack McDevitt's "Act of God" (where a man tells the story of his mentor's creation of a universe, and his attempt to become God for it), and Sean McMullen's "The Cascade" (where a young rebel scientist and her group attempts to force the first manned mission to Mars to become a colonization attempt). While these stories were definitely the best of the bunch for me, all of them (except for "The Risk-Taking Gene") held my attention and wouldn't let me down until I tried just one more.

That being said, the selection wasn't as strong as in 2003, making for an overall weaker volume. It's definitely worth a read if you like SF, and I'd say it covers the best of 2004 pretty well. I guess it just wasn't as good of a year.

5 out of 5 stars Has It Really Been Ten Years?.......2006-02-10

Year's Best SF 10, $7.99 US, will charm readers of the speculative and the fantastic, so I'm pleased to update you on the status of this now decade long series -- which is very capably edited by David G. Hartwell and Kathryn Cramer. If you love science fiction, you'll find this anthology stacks up very favorably against the Nebula Awards collection.

Each year, Hartwell and Cramer comb five hundred plus nominees (from multiple sources: books, electronic fiction websites, foreign publishers, magazines) and whittle their selections down to somewhere over twenty stories -- filling 500 pages -- that are usually representative of excellence in the genre. They admit to omitting great novellas each year, due to limited space, but that's to be expected.

A general survey of current contributors reveals: American, Australian, Canadian, English, and French backgrounds among its authors. Previous versions of this anthology have also featured the work of Argentinian, Dutch, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and Scottish writers. Quite surprisingly, no sci-fi from India, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, or a number of other English speaking countries, has ever appeared in this series.

Readers of this series known that once Hartwell takes a shine to an author, you'll likely be seeing them in subsequent issues of Year's Best. As good as the works of Robert Reed (6 stories in 10 issues) and Gene Wolfe (7 stories in 10 issues) are, the editorial duo should offer "more diverse selection" as the decade rolls onward.

Some of the best stories included in Year's Best SF 10 are by female writers -- Pamela Sargent, Janeen Webb, Liz Williams, Brenda Cooper -- but in this genre, based strictly on numbers, male writers continue to deny them equal series representation. Loosestrife, by Brighton author Liz Williams, (set in post-global-warming London) was truly my favorite story in this entire anthology.

Burning Day, by Montreal author Glenn Grant, is a perfect marriage of cyberpunk, human prejudice, and the police procedural. Set in a gritty urban landscape riddled by chaos and violence, this graphic story about a terrorist attack -- and the human and android cops that pursue them -- simply sizzles. Buildings that "grew on their own" added just the right touch.

Even if you don't care for SF, you'll like smart stories like Mastermindless, by Vancouver Island's Matthew Hughes, which is set in a far future where science indistinguishable from magic, and magic, coexist. The star in this story is one Henghis Hapthorne, freelance discriminator. Written much in the tradition of Sherlock Holmes, this story will make you think while you laugh.

Standouts like Pulp Cover, by Illinoian Gene Wolf, can't be missed. Ostensibly a yarn told by a furniture salesman that wishes to remain anonymous, this narrative retells the account of the alien abduction of the woman that he'd once hoped to marry -- Mariel -- and her mysterious reappearance on his front doorstep seven years after she was declared dead.

The Dark Side of Town, by New Hampshire resident James Patrick Kelly is another tale told in the cyberpunk tradition that sparkles. Despite downcast trappings (young couples can't afford children, or homes) this short piece of fiction ends on an upbeat note, when a troubled couple takes refuge in a VR world tailored mapped to their own innermost secret desires.

Since I follow Year's Best, I've got questions about how the Editors determine the final slate. I think it would be a nice touch if David and Kathryn included a list of fifty Honorable Mentions that missed the cut. Basic information like author name, story title, story source, and publication date would be advantageous for both the genre and fandom.

F&SF first published six of the above stories, you'll probably want to subscribe to that digest mag. Asimov's first published four of these stories (before they were included in Year's Best) and that's another monthly worthy of your dollars. These periodicals are struggling to survive because they can't secure enough distribution and sales -- support them because they're great reading.

3 out of 5 stars Spotty.......2005-07-28

Anytime an anthology claims it is the best, there will alwyas be an argument of why was so-and-so leftout. At the beggining of this book, the editors explain their parameters of why they chose what they did. The editors only chose science fiction and nothing else such as horror laced or speculative fiction. The problem is that this last year for the anthology was from a shallow pool of available material. Science fiction is in a bit of a lull. This does not mean "Year's best SF 10" is bad. It is not, most of the book is very good. Some of the stories that do not work are just unremarkeable and one or two of them, I wonder what the editors were thinking. My two personal favorite stories are "Wealth" by Reed and "Time As it Evaporates" by Dunyack. Both of these stories are excellent are are worth the price of the book alone. "Strood" is also fun to read and should not be missed. I enjoy this particular series every year and this year is no exception. As you will find with any series, some years are better than others and once again this is the case again. The book is worth the purchase, but not as good as other years such as year's 1, 4, 5, and 9.

2 out of 5 stars Less than stellar.......2005-07-26

The tenth edition suffers from the trouble that hangs around this series: About half its volumes simply don't have truly memorable reading in them. That doesn't make it a waste of time, and this volume isn't one, but it's undistinguished - especially after last year's sparkling collection.

Unremarkable contributions came from frequently reliable writers like Gene Wolfe, Gregory Benford, Pamela Sargent, and James Patrick Kelly. Stories like those by Ray Vukcevich or James Cambias I might not have included at all. Brenda Cooper's and Neal Asher's stories, among others, outshine the ones surrounding them.

I buy the anthology every year because it often contains a couple of stories that raise the whole book's sea level, and it's a good price. I'll buy next year's as well. But when I look back over the line of Year's Best editions on the shelf for one to pick up again, this year's probably will sit right where it does now. If you didn't buy Year's Best 9, try that one first. This one's readable, just not remarkable.

5 out of 5 stars Prepared to give an answer???.......2007-07-11

The question is not, will you talk about your church, the question is, will you share the gospel message? Many Christians have a passion and desire to share their faith, but hesitate because they are afraid of the questions. Dr. Geisler begins by pointing out that non-believers have good questions and Christians are called to "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have, but do this with gentleness and respect."

Geisler addresses many different topics ranging from, questions about God, other gods, evil, miracles, Jesus, Bible, Bible difficulties, archeology, science, afterlife, truth, and morals. With a wide range of topics and well-reasoned answers, this book will provide you a solid introduction into the world of apologetics. This is the type of book that will not just "sit on your shelf" after one read.

      4 out of 5 stars Thoughtful writing.......2007-03-19

Mr. Geisler presents his information in a well-organized manner. I've always felt that if you can explain why you believe something, you can share it without offending or "cramming it down their throat".

5 out of 5 stars Christians Need To Provide Answers.......2007-02-26

The Bible tells Christians to "be ready to give an answer for the hope that is in [them]." Geisler's and Brooks' book, When Skeptics Ask, helps the Christian formulate an answer for his belief. The book is not exhaustive on every subject, but it helps in many of the critical areas that many skeptics may inquire about.

The book is laid out in an easy to read format. It can be read all the way through, or as a reference tool on a particular subject. I would recommend this book for every Believer's library.

      1 out of 5 stars Disappointing.......2006-12-06

This book was given to me by my family on the request of my wife. She and my family are religious and I am not. I read this with an open mind however it simply frustrated me. The author attempts to provide reinforcement to what I consider Western Christianity (WC) views, but the use of false logic, wild assumptions, and circular arguments simply make no case at all. I have more questions now after reading this poor attempt to explain WC.

For instance, in Chapter two the author uses extremely poor logic and nothing but philisophical rant to "prove" God exists. There is no proof in the chapter. However, later in the book Geiser and Brooks build on this faulty foundation established in Ch. 2 to attempt to exlpain other mysteries of religion. I am sorry, but in my opinion that is a poor defense - weak foundations make weaker structures.

This book is clearly designed for those who are already strong beleivers in a faith, not fact-based religion. I was hoping it would provide answers to some of the questions I have about Christianity, however I was greatly disappointed.

If you are a strong Christian then this book may be of some help when people ask you the tough questions, but I doubt any skeptics will be converted with this poor defense manual.

4 out of 5 stars Good answers to some tough questions..........2006-04-26

I liked this book for it's easy readability on some tough questions. If you are starting to share your faith or even thinking of going into the ministry you will get these questions asked of you. Good book to get the thought process started on these different issues regarding God and Christianity. The book does exactly as the title appears and for that I give it four stars. The only reason that I didn't give it five is I don't agree fully on some of the doctrine that is shared on some of the subjects.

But overall, good simple read that will definitely start to clear up some questions.

Since I'm not a vegetarian, I wasn't sure if this cookbook would be helpful, but it has some really interesting recipes, and I've made a couple of them and they were quite tasty.

Love this cookbook! The recipes are not difficult, but yield gourmet-tasting meals. The charts of various wines and their flavors is extremely helpful, especially to someone who is not "wine savvy" like me!!

5 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good cookbook.......2006-04-10

To put this review into perspective for you, it is written by a serious student of cooking that has been actively studying food on their own for 25 years. I have been focusing on Italian food for the last 10 years. My favorite cookbook is "The Professional Chef" by the Culinary Institute of America.

I purchased this book on a whim prior to embarking on a vegetarian lifestyle because I love to cook with alcohol and wanted to add more healthy meals into our family diet. I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed this book from day one.

The author includes a nice wine chart in the front of the book for those of you that aren't familiar with all types of wine. I found it handy since I tend to stick to the Italian wines.

Once I saw the recipe for Limoncello (a family staple in our home) I was hooked. If you have never made this yourself give it a try. The recipe is very simple and the end result is addicting. The recipe for spaghetti with beets is amazing. I never liked beets until I made this dish. It now reappears monthly in my home. Likewise, the chilled prosecco and melon soup is wonderful. It is such a refreshing start to a meal on a hot day. How about a Sangria fruit salad, that is included as well.

My only complaint about this book is that it doesn't have the pretty pictures that I love. If you are vegan this is probably not the book for you. Although I have been about to successfully adapt some of the non-vegan recipes with trial and error. If you have been a vegan and a home cook for long time you can probably do the same thing with ease.

          4 out of 5 stars Vegetarian Epicure.......2006-02-06

My husband teases me that I have an obsession for cookbooks, particularly vegetarian cookbooks. He is not a vegetarian and often quotes the line from Pulp Fiction spoken by Samuel L. Jackson: "I'm not a vegetarian, but my girlfriend is- which pretty much makes me one, too."

I have made most of the recipies in this book and we both love them, particularly the Wild Mushroom Soup and Vegetarian Cassoulet. I've made many recipes for my omnivore parents as well. They loved everything- so I bought them a copy. They actually use it!

The prinicple of this book is that all foods benefit from a little kick- it's absolutley true! Every recipe has booze in it, so be prepared. As well as cooking with it, the author provides wine pairing suggestions- unusual for a vegetarian cookbook. While I don't eat meat, I do drink. However, if you shouldn't be drinking it, you shouldn't be cooking with it.

Most ingredients are easy to find at my local grocery/liquor store. Most recipes are vegan or will be if one ingredient is omitted- which the author occasionally points out. A few of the desserts have no vegan prospects, such as triple chocolate-casis brownies, but there are several (sans chocolate) that would be suitable.

If you are a strict vegan, this may not be a book for you. (The author considers honey to be vegan, for instance.) If you require pictures, not the book for you either. But if you want a fantastic cookbook, vegetarian or not, I can't say enough about The Spirited Vegetarian.

The book's primary focus is on Borsalino hats of the late 19th and 20th centuries, with a few earlier hats, foreign hats, and pith helmets included. The cowboy hat is given short shrift (on par with the coverage given to the fez), although this may be expected given the book's Italian emphasis and concentration on formal hats. Overall, the presentation is beautiful, with the excellent photographs characteristic of the Bella Cosa series. Anyone looking for design ideas will find a wealth of information here. The reason I could not give this book 5 stars is the almost total lack of information on straw hats -- the only mention is the straw boater. Given the Panama hat's place in history (and the fact that Borsalino has a line of straw hats), this is a serious omission.

Attaching objects to cloth with a sewing machine can seem intimidating even to experienced sewers, but this book helps to demystify the process. There are instructions for using a sewing machine to add various embellishments (not only individual beads but also items such as beaded fringes and edgings, charms, and silk ribbons) and for making multistrand beaded necklaces with a regular machine or with a serger. There's also plenty of information on tools and equipment, project planning, and making your own beads.

            4 out of 5 stars Inspirational.......2004-07-20

I love to cruise through the photographs in this book when I am looking for inspiration. It is filled with photos of beautiful embellishments mostly done on border prints. Dibbs shows step by step how to use decorative machine stitches and beads to create fabric with rich texure and sparkle. Most of the book is devoted to 10 projects which use the same technique which is quick and simple to learn and understand. The bright, bold photos really stir my creativity and make me dream of ways I can make a pretty print dress become a spectacular attention grabber, or convert a simple pair of tab top curtains to a focal point by adding a border print stripe and embellishing with rayon and metallic thread along with some well placed seed beads.

I would not use her technique on a quilt, though, as she has done in some of her projects. I think quilts should be snuggly. I think this technique is best in small patches because it packs quite a punch. It can be labor intensive, especially if using many beads, but like rich dessert, a little goes a long way.

2 out of 5 stars Magazine Article Sized Idea.......2002-02-27

This book continues the trend of little content being present in small (96 pages) books filled with full color photographs of the same idea over and over again.

Rather then being called "Machine Embroidery & More", the title should have been "Embellishing Border stripes with Machine Embroider and Hand Beading." Most of the projects consist of a Jinny Beyer Border Print that has been mitered around a plain center. Built-in decorative stitches are sewn over and beside the printed pattern on the border and then many tiny beads are hand sewn. The result is a lavish border in which the amount of labor invested can not be appreciated unless you are standing very close to it. Oddly enough these elaborate borders become the whole interest of the work, for they are placed around a plain and in some projects, very large, single center squares. The result looks like a very lovely, but empty picture frame.

The technique will only appeal to those who enjoy both machine and hand work. The projects for the most part, look incomplete, since the large center part of the quilt is empty. However, I could see the border treatment being use on a special quilt. I would have enjoyed seeing this technique in a single chapter or magazine article, but as an entire book, it is lacking.

            Not Recommended.

2 out of 5 stars Machine embroidery and more...........2002-02-22

This book has some interesting projects but I found them to be incredibly time consuming and lacking in function. A pillow or a quilt that is weighed down with stiff embroidery and beading is not exactly inviting to snuggle with. Don't get me wrong, these projects are original and interesting but I personally feel that if I am going to invest large amounts of time and energy into something, I want to be able to enjoy it afterwards.

                      Book Description

Do-it-yourself home projects have become a national pastime, and nothing satisfies that urge more then creating built-ins. The fact that they are a permanent part of a house makes it more critical that they be done with as much skill and imagination as possible. That's where the New Built-Ins Idea Book comes in. Written by Sandor Nagyszalanczy, a former senior editor of Fine Woodworking magazine and an acknowledged expert in the field, this illustrated guide shows step-by-step how to create built-ins that are both practical and appealing. Here are hundreds of design ideas for projects for every room of the house, including kitchens, bathrooms, libraries, kids' spaces, dining rooms, bedrooms, and the increasingly popular media spaces. The book shows a wide range of possibilities for incorporating built-ins, from niches to bookcases to spaces that replace those stacks of clothing in the closet. Complete coverage of materials, lighting, color, and hardware, along with careful, comprehensible drawings and photographs, is included.

Taunton has a very good reputation for their publications so I thought this would be a great book to help me with several projects I will be undertaking. It was a disappointment. There was nothing innovative or unique about the ideas presented. The cabinet styles were either very basic or so custom they did not provide realistic options. If you are looking for innovative or creative ideas for a realistic cabinet project ... look elsewhere.

Most of the built-ins shown in the book are from a Room-View with the built in partially obstructed and with little detail shown. I wasn't looking for plans to build, but I would have expected more. If you like the details level shown on the cover of the book, then this will be right up your alley, other wise, the book will probably fall short of your expectations.

4 out of 5 stars Great ideas! .......2006-07-22

To make the most of our new home, I was looking for ideas for custom made cabinetry and other storage options.
Although the style of quite a few examples are not to my taste, I still got enough ideas and inspiration. Also a plus; the book gives you tips for matching built-ins to the rest of the room, to get a coordinated look.
My favourite chapters: Passages (great storage options to be found there!!) Window seats (you will see small window seats as well as really large ones) Workspaces (they show you practical workspaces even in tiny closets) and Utility Areas. In the kitchen chapter I liked the small details, like the pantry and appliance garage.

                      5 out of 5 stars Great ideas.......2006-05-18

I want to install severeal built-ins in my older home, as space is limited. This book definitely gave me lots of ideas. The pictures are excellent and really provide inspiration - whether you copy exactly or adapt the ideas to meet your needs. Full of ideas and inspiration - not a how-to.

5 out of 5 stars Talk about IDEAS!.......2006-03-20

This book, by far, exceeded my expectations! It is full of wonderful photos - cover to cover. We are getting ready to build a new home and we will definitely use a few of these creative ideas.
