Book Description
Building on the success ofher astonishing debut, Leaving Atlanta, Tayari Jones delivers a compassionate story of one woman daring to confront the trauma of her past. Aria is no stranger to tragedy. Fifteen years ago, a family outing took the lives of her father and baby sister, leaving remaining members of this fractured family struggling to live with their own guilt-real and imagined. At 25, Aria believes she can reinvent herself through her planned marriage, with all its promise of a family of her own. But the reality of infertility changes Aria's life as swiftly and irrevocably as the urban landscape around her. With prose that is both eloquent and unflinching, Jones charts the emotional journey of her characters as they explore the painful territory of truth and the healing landscape of forgiveness.
Customer Reviews:
Untelling the Lies.......2006-07-17
Aria's family is still dealing with the after effects of a fatal car crash that took both her father and her baby sister, some 15 years ago. Aria, in particular, hasn't gotten over the guilt of being unable to offer comfort to her dying father.
Eloise, Aria's mother, is perhaps the most vividly painted character in the book. She too has been unable to come to terms with her own perceptions of the fatal accident that took her husband and her favorite child.
Hermione, the elder sister, left home at the earliest possible moment. Her escape came by marrying her deceased father's best friend, an act that still hasn't been completely forgiven by the family.
While the differences and distance between these family members sometimes seems insurmountable, the book is about how this group continues to relate as a family, in spite of all odds. When Aria needs to come to terms with untelling a lie she's been harboring, rather than meassuring how much she loses, the beauty of this story comes in seeing how much she's gained along the way.
a stellar book.......2006-07-05
Tayari Jones' "The Untelling" is all about heart. From the wrenching prologue to the complex emotional finish, heart, heart, heart. Great fiction comes from great characters, and this is why Jones is great. All of the characters in this rich, poignant story are complicated and interesting and flawed; that is, human. We deeply feel their pain and loss, their joys and triumphs, their mistakes, because Jones has made them so convincing. (Chapter Four in particular is a marvel, expertly using humor to amplify an aching family chasm.) The mother in this book is hands-down one of the best in fiction. This is not to leave out the riveting plot or Jones' shimmering voice and style, all of which are highlights. I read this book, and I read it again. My heart is better for it.
Horribly Boring.......2006-06-23
I hate that I wasted my money on the Untelling. I heard so much about what a great writer Tayari Jones was and people were really lying. The story had loose ends, the main character was supposed to be educated but came across as the opposite, the over-quoting of Dr. King, the lack of resolution at the end. Just because someone uses a bunch of big words doesn't make them a good writer. No wonder her books aren't selling. Maybe her next one will be better if she concentrates on learning how to actually tell a story that doesn't put you to sleep. Better luck next time but I won't buy another of her books.
Struggles we go Through in Life.......2006-03-28
In the book The Untelling I thought it was a good book.It talked about a girl who had struggles in her life. She had family and friends but they all turned there backs on her.I think that it was a great book I might even read it again.

Beautiful Voice.......2006-01-22
The prologue of this deeply affecting novel took my breath away. There is a quiet brilliance throughout this story of loyalty, of trust, of shame. Tayari Jones writes with such humanity, with insight, with intelligence, and yet this is a writer who isn't trying to impress, but rather to remain true to her characters and their struggles. Somehow, too, Jones is able to bring a kind of humour to even the most dire of circumstances (not an easy trick) and I particularly enjoyed Aria's mother's intermittent declarations. A wonderful novel.

Book Description
From the writer whose earlier books have been described as “a radiant prism of colour, memory and longing” and acclaimed as “ripe — ready to move into song” comes
Bloodroot, Warland's personal telling of the loss of her mother.
In this compelling and beautiful work of creative non-fiction, writer and poet Betsy Warland takes the reader with her as she negotiates her mother's growing incapacity and death. Her narrative traces the story that bound them together in the mother-daughter relationship, and her reflections help her find clarity, understanding and acceptance. Warland weaves a common ground that moves beyond duty and despair, providing both questions and guideposts for readers, particularly those faced with ageing and ill parents and their loss.

Classic Miscommunication.......2006-03-28
This book is a good example of why communication is important in a relationship. Xander is such a jerk sometimes, that it keeps me from giving this story a 5 star rating. He is such a domineering control freak, even when he breaks and falls in love you find it hard to forgive. That's the downside, but the upside is you can feel the heat between these two burning up the pages. when Helen is injured in a car accident trying to leave her husband Xander, he whisks her away to a secluded island to heal where she is trapped and at his mercy. On their wedding day a year ago, Helen sees a picture of him with his reported mistress taken days before. When she confronts him, he never denies it and basically tells her she is his property and he doesn't care about her feelings. Well, she doesn't allow him to have his wedding night and he deposits her under strict security at his villa and that is where the story starts. All of this couple's problems could have been prevented with a little communication.
A little disappointing, but otherwise a good read.......2006-01-21
Michelle Reid seldom disappoints, but this book has been so hyped that I expected better - like Price of a Bride maybe (her very best ever). It seemed to me that the hero treats the heroine badly, even though it really isn't her fault that they're married, as they only married so he could financially bail out her father. When she discovers this she won't sleep with the hero. It's not her fault throughout, and yet the hero goes on blaming her, and says he's been 'too patient' with her - he is, of course, sulking because he thinks she's about to run off with another man, even though he's done nothing to reasure her tha he is not having an affair, though the evidence is there (he isn't, and he could have told her that!). So becasue of his attitude to her I just never warmed to the hero. However, he definitely has his problems, notably his horrible parents. He has to look after his dead father's mistress, who is stupid rather than bad for having had an affair with a married man, and he is the only one who cares about her child. His father rejected the child as the price of getting his own wife back. Both are disgraceful for ignoring a baby's needs. He does become more sympathetic in the end, but he never persuaded me he was a decent guy, worthy of the heroine.
fantastic read.......2006-01-02
This is my first Michelle Reid book I ever read and so enthralled I was unable to put it down until I finish reading it, no wonder it's highly recomended.
Very satisfying read!.......2005-12-07
I read a Harlequin after a long time and this one certainly did not disappoint. A very sweet and tender love story which was a little similar to Lynne Graham's "Unfaithful wife" except this one was much much better. I loved the fact that we knew what was going on in the hero's head as well. Xander loved his wife and would do anything to keep her. A true love story!
Amazing indeed!.......2005-07-04
The plot is really amazing, and the characters are really enchanting, make you want to read along without stopping ...
A must keep for Greek tycoon's fans indeed.
Well done, Mrs.Reid, hope to see another wonderful stories from you again.
I'd also recommend THE TYCOON'S BRIDE, PRICE OF A BRIDE, NO WAY TO BEGIN, and COERCION TO LOVE by Mrs. Reid, THE UNFAITHFULL WIFE, BOND OF HATRED, THE TEMPESTUOUS REUNION, and THE SECRET WIFE by Lynne Graham, THE GREEK'S VIRGIN BRIDE and THE ITALIAN'S TOKEN WIFE by Julia James, and THE ITALIAN'S SUITABLE WIFE by Lucy Monroe.
Customer Reviews:
Writing style is conservative, but good character study.......2006-06-04
You have to wonder about the thinking process of the man who invented Conan and Red Sonja. We find out that he lived in his head and was missing a lot of the social graces in order to fit in. This is the tortured soul artist story, but he managed to relate to Novalyne Price, a more socially accepted person. Their relationship may have pushed Howard into rethinking the role of women in his writing. Price would push back and and not let him overwhelm her. It is not a great novel, but it is insightful about someone who saw the clearly dysfunctional Howard for what he was yet still was attracted to his imaginative, if crude, mind.
ONE WHO DID NOT WALK ALONE.......2006-03-22
SOMETIMES SOMETHING LINKS INTO YOU - ACROSS OCEANS,
ACROSS ERAS, ACROSS ORIGINS, ACROSS FAITHS.
WITHOUT YOUR EVER KNOWING HOW.
THIS WAS MY EXPERIENCE OF THIS BOOK.
NOT JUST A NOVEL, IS A PERSONAL JOURNAL........2006-01-01
THIS IS DEFINETLY NOT JUST A NOVEL, IT'S MORE THAN THAT, IT'S DEFINETLY THE NOVALYNE'S PERSONAL JOURNAL, WHEN YOU READ THE BOOK YOU JUST FEEL THAT YOU'RE PART OF IT. YOU CAN SHARE, LAUGH, CRY THOSE DEEP AND PERSONAL MOMENTS BETWEEN NOVALYNE AND "BOB". IF YOU SAW THE MOVIE THEN YOU JUST SAW A TINY PART OF THOSE REAL MOMENTS. THIS BOOK IS FULL OF DETAILS, IT TAKES OUT OF THIS PRESENT WORLD AND TRANSPORTS YOU WAY BACK TO THE 30'S IN AN INSTANT.
Unforgetable.......2004-05-11
I call this book "unforgetable" because this is what it is. First I saw the movie and then, just had to have the book. Since then, Novalyne Price and Robert E. Howard have become real live people, to me. Since I have read the book and saw the movie.....I have moved to Texas. I plan a trip to Cross Plains and Brownwood, to be there where everything took place. To read about these two people and their relationship with one another, has effected my life. I only wish they could still be here so I could meet and talk with them. I feel once a body reads this book, they will be "hooked" on the two people...Novalyne and Bob...and will always be seeking more about them and their lives. Barb Tripp
Historically important, not very captivating........2002-04-16
This memoir of the relationship between Novalyne Price and Robert Ervin Howard is a fine historical document. It does have its moments of humor, pathos, and insight. However, it's not a very entertaining book, and one can see why Mrs. Ellis (Novalyne's married name)never became a professional author (until this book). I'm glad I bought it and read it, but principally for its historical significance into the life of Robert E. Howard, one of the 20th Century's finest writers of adventure fiction. ONE WHO WALKS ALONE was made into the excellent flim, THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD, starring Vincent Donofrio as Howard, and Renee' Zellwegger as Price. A case in which a film was better and more effective than the book.
Still and all, I do highly recommend ONE WHO WALKED ALONE. It's a fairly good read, and does give a great deal of insight into the strange life of Robert Ervin Howard.
Book Description
This leading seller successfully addresses what a person should know about religions, and why. In an exceptionally clear and compelling account of the teaching of the world's religions, the text goes beyond traditional approaches to personally connect students with the vitality of the great religions. The third edition has been thoroughly updated in both content and illustration, to address recent world events.
Customer Reviews:
I Wish I Could Combine Them All.......2007-05-03
I've used several college religion texts through the years. Each has its strengths and weaknesses. EXPERIENCING THE WORLD'S RELIGIONS is no exception. I especially like the chapters on Hinduism and modern religious expressions. This book comes close to labeling post-modernity without actually going out on a limb to predict the future. The last chapters elevate this book beyond the norm for religious textbooks. The author includes a personal experience (which I like) in each chapter and a hypothetical experience for the reader (which I find distracting) opens each chapter. It doesn't put quite as much emphasis on basic (oral) religions as some texts. For instance, I wish it had a little more on Native American and Traditional African religions.
This is an excellent text for the instructor who is able to bring supplemental material into the classroom. Someone embarking on a private study of world religions should not feel as if the surface has been scratched until more than one text is read. I also reviewed RELIGIONS OF THE WORLD by Hopfe & Woodward. The two texts compliment each other nicely.
Perfect.......2007-02-19
I got my book in record time. I ordered it on a friday, and got it on Monday, when I needed it for school. I did not have any problems during the entire process. I highly recommend this seller to everyone.
good but could have gotten here sooner.......2006-02-17
i like it, got here in perfect condition, just took about 2-3 weeks
See the world in a different light........2006-01-16
I found this text book to be clear and easy to read. Very understandable in many key points of various of religions. It has clear definitions and incredible photos.
Very good intro, a little odd design..........2005-09-23
As introductions to various religions go, this book has quite a good approach. Since it's written in American English for a Western audience, it takes care to show where the original linguistic parts for all the terms come from and rough translations of what they actually mean compared to what they fully mean in order that the reader may get to understand the religion in its own terms. It also doesn't do what a lot of failures-for-intros do, which is assume the reader is Christian and speak of everything in terms of its comparison to Christianity.
It not only looks at key-terms, but history, art, effects of it on the outside world and the outside world on it, and how it exists in the modern day. All of these points are useful.
While each chapter isn't necessarily a full-blown account of every facet of the religion it deals with, it goes beyond just giving a simple outline and takes some time to try to explain things, along with giving references to resources for further study by personal interest. This is a very good thing.
However, the author, Michael Molloy, chose to do an interesting thing with this book. Sometimes he switches into a second-person mode to try to bring the reader into the subject he's talking about. Unfortunately, second-person is so difficult to write and ill-advised. I couldn't help reading, "You do this," and thinking, "Oh I do, don't I?" as a sort of natural resistance to an unnamed authority. I don't know if this is a personal response of if many people just automatically assume such resistances, but all I know is that I'm not much one for Choose-Your-Own adventure.
Second-person isn't the only odd thing he does with the structure of the book. He often ends the chapters in first person, which is just as distracting and also begs the question, "Well, if the first part was all about me, why is the last part all about you?" Simple things like that can become distracting, and I believe it would have been better to present such material in one particular case. I know this weighs down a lot of the writing and makes it difficult to care about (as it will be mostly students in introductory college courses reading this book, not people personally interested), but I'd rather be spending my time getting all the information from the book than trying to force my mind not to argue with the exposition.

Wow!.......2006-09-15
I've been collecting cookbooks for years. I have a special bookcase in my kitchen where I keep the "these always work!" cookbooks, and this is one of them!! I was already a huge fan of the author's syndicated newspaper column, and wondered how she would fare with a cookbook. I turn to this book again and again for easily prepared and delicious appetizers. Her comments about each recipe are endearing! I can only hope that she keeps writing!
excellent and easy to follow recipes.......1998-02-12
I borrowed this book from our library for a dinner party and after trying some of the receipes decided I couldn't live without the book - much to my dismay I found the book was out of print. This is the best appetizer cookbook I have ever used and everyone was quite impressed with all the recipes, which I found easy and simple to follow. Where can I find this book?????
Customer Reviews:
Do not waste your money!!! Or waste fabric to make anything from this!.......2006-06-27
I got this when it was 1st released and was amazed at how horrible and amateur the patterns are. If you are new at sewing this may be a good start for basic, boxy outfits but don't expect to make anything really nice.
And to add insult, all the patterns shown in the book are not included. You must order additional patterns to complete the set for extra $$.
I kept the box to hold my own personally drafted patterns but couldn't even give the book/patterns away. I finally just donated it to a giveaway and I pity the person who received it.
Nice Package; Disappointing Contents.......2006-05-31
This set consists of two parts: (1) a book of photos of various fashion dolls wearing the author's designs, and (2) patterns for some of the outfits. The photos show outfits that are very boxy and amateurish. They reminded me of clothing I made for my dolls when I was ten. The few interesting outfits do not come with patterns. It seems that to get patterns for all the outfits in the book, one must purchase two additional sets of patterns; however, the box is large enough to hold all the patterns.
The only pluses I could find in this set were the thumbnail biographies of each of the dolls, and the chart of the dolls' vital statistics.
While the patterns are very basic, the directions are not, so this would not be good for a beginning sewer. The experienced sewer would not want to waste money on this.
Had I been able to look this over before I bought it, I would have saved some money.
Book review .......2004-09-23
Personally I think this book is a rip off. It has lots of great designs, but the author only includes one category of design patterns. If you want the other two categories, you have to order and pay more cash for them seperately by sending a request to an address at the back of the book. I thought that all the design outfits that are in the book would have patterns, but it doesn't. I cannot believe that this author entices you with some fantastic clothes designs for the larger dolls and then says you have to dish out more money for two more sets of patterns listed as other catergories.

Defining a national style is a difficult task, particularly in the European realm. With a constant intermingling of cultures, as accomplished author Cheryl MacLachlan observes, "History gets in the way." Yet with careful study and an astute eye--both of which MacLachlan displays in abundance--it is possible to discover a country's distinctive style. In this case it means a skillful blend of rich woodwork, botanical motifs, and strong graphics; interiors replete with idiosyncratic visual detail but still beckoning with comfort. Brimming with gorgeous photographs, the volume gives us a scrumptious room-by-room tour (including that very English form, the garden), serving up concise lessons on the history of English design and excellent analyses of what makes each element in the photos work, along with generous helpings of very specific suggestions on how to incorporate all the elements into our own homes. "Idea notebooks" in each chapter offer helpful at-a-glance particulars of key elements in each room type. And charming glimpses of real life (children having a tea party; a cat snoozing on an overstuffed chair; bunches of magazines leaning against a sofa) highlight the fact that these are not designer showrooms, but actual homes that are truly lived in and loved. --Amy Handy

Very TRADITIONAL English decorating book.......2007-08-06
This is a very TRADITIONAL (and Classical) English decorating book. It is not an "how-to" book at all, but rather, a visual journey throughout homes that are all decorated in the "Traditional" and/or "Classic" English style (in other words: this book is not about "modern" English decorating at all).
I own two other book by this outstanding author (Cheryl MacLachlan) and she always does such a nice job at taking readers into the world of European decorating, by showing a variety of homes in the various styles... as stated in the book's title.
If you own any of the Henrietta Churchill's books (ie: her books on decorating a 'la "English classical style") then you are probably familiar with Classical/Traditional English decorating. If not, browse through this book and/or Henrietta's many decorating books, and you will understand the English "classical" style a bit better.
One difference: The homes in this MacLachlan book are homes that are probably owned by middle-class English families, and are NOT owned by upper-class English families , --- such as all of Henrietta's books show. Therefore, if you want to decorate your home in English style, then this MacLachlan book is more doable & relavent to you. Personally, I like both author's books (MacLachlan's and Churchill's books) because together they show all the possibilities when incorporating Classical English decorating in your current home(s).
Perfectly lovely........2002-05-19
A warm and wonderful volume for any hopeless Anglophile. Great gift.
A Terrific Cultural Experience!.......2001-10-15
Author Cheryl MacLachlan writes "...'English style' refers to the unique constellation of elements - homegrown and foreign - that the English have taken as their own". This book shows you how to create a beautiful, charming English atmosphere in your home, and in your life.
My bedtime ritual now includes sitting down with a steaming cup of tea while browsing through every page of this book. After collecting and borrowing dozens of books on this topic, I find this one to be the most comprehensive and inspiring resource for the lover of anything English.
"Like a house, Bringing It Home - England is divided into rooms"...The book's chapters cover the following topics:
(1) The Substance of the English Style: common threads that unite all English homes, walls, motifs, graphics and everything out of the ordinary
(2) The Living Room: how to arrange furniture, select fabrics, and my favorite topic: how to create the look of a traditional English drawing room
(3) The Bedroom: creating a "cozy sanctuary", creating the romantic look (I can attest to the fact that her advice in this section works beautifully!), how to create the English look in your bath, and there is even a section on creating the look in a nursery!
(4) The Dining Room: special emphasis on creating a "tailored, handsome" look. Includes information on English china, porcelain and crystal. There is even a guide to selecting tables and chairs.
(5) The Garden: No book about English style would be complete without information on creating a traditional English garden. Includes a primer on the art of flower arrangement.
)6) The Kitchen: The floors, cabines, furnishings and "cooker" are all covered in this section as well as my very favorite subject on the pleasure of "taking tea". Oh, life is grand!!!!
(7) A Resource section which includes information on all the "English-style" essentials and where to find them. Includes a reading list and travel ideas.
The information is practical and inspiring, as are the beautiful photographs. I feel this is the best book on this topic anywhere.
5 Stars. Enjoy.
Absolutely The Best!.......2000-02-25
Being a lover of all things English, I have several books and this is the very best of all. This book is chock full of information on how to achieve the style, what makes it "English" and the photographs are fabulous. I have never read a book of this style that had so much research that went into it. I also enjoyed several receipes that were included and the section that dealt with the meaning of words and how Americans and British differ in their usage.
A nice variety of information about the English style.......2000-02-22
I like this book because it addresses a diverse range of topics on how to achieve the English style. It describes the origin of each decorating tradition, offering an explanation or rationale for why something is characterized as "English," rather than just laying out a blueprint to follow. I also liked that cooking was incorporated into the book, and several appealing photos of food and recipes are provided.

A must have for the safe & effective use of tea tree oil........1999-11-19
It's a user friendly book, that has help me save money. It is very well cross referenced in the main section and in the index. I was surprised to find out the hundreds of ways as well as health and other uses tea tree oil is good for. It helped my teenage daughter clear-up her acne. Discovered tea tree is great for disinfecting and cleaning uses. Best idea was how to use tea tree oil with my regular toothpaste to get rid of plaque. The dentists hygenist asked me if I'd recently had my teeth cleaned, sincew there was so little plaque. That tip alone, made the book worth it.
Chock full of ways to use tea tree oil for health and beauty.......1999-11-08
Explains well the many ways to use this incredible natural remedy. A frined follwoed the books instructions and it healed the fungal infection on his foot. As the book recommended, I told a girlfriend to massage some onto her scalp and add some to her shampoo, to get rid of her itching scalp and dandruff that she had unsuccessfully tried many dandruff shampoos on, it worked. I used it for my eczema, like the book said and finally have something safe and easy to use for my skin problem. tea tree and this book are staples I wwould not want to be without - they are great!

I cannot believe that there is not a review for this album posted! I LOVE this album. I love the sound of Elvis Costello's vocals backed by Bacharach. And the background vocals! Oh sensory overload. Great production. Soulful vocals. Melodies to die for. And those arrangements...oh man! What are you waiting for? Go get it!

very good +++.......2005-08-04
this is a very good guide for any serious elvis records collector or aficionado. Not only shows every official Elvis' cd,(Rca camdem budget, greatest hits...) even follow that dream editions and bootlegs and pirate recordings, with comments about the content of every recording, and of course complete song list of every album.A very help for every elvis fan. Good edition with all the covers printed in full color.
Looking for an Elvis discography book? Don't buy this!.......2004-08-14
This book did not add anything to my collection of Elvis books at all. Yes, there are the standard issues of Elvis records in color, as well as many bootlegs featured. BUT, there are too many records missing to make this book the least complete. Many records are only featured with pictures, no track-listing, why? This information is very easy to obtain on the net. Seems research was very poor.
The bootlegs featured, are from the author's own collection. There are great color photos of the covers, and tracklistings on most of the records. But why limit the number of recorde to his own collection? Again, has there been made a research to complete the book with more material? No.
If you don't have a discography book with Elvis' records, you could buy it. If you have any before, this won't add much. If you don't have any bootleg discography, this book could be worth buying.
There are far too many much better books on the market.

Customer Reviews:
Some of the best critical writing on Elvis Presley.......2007-05-29
This book sticks to the music, and what music it was, or should I say, what music *made* - sometimes from situational film material. But this work sticks mainly to A-list, non-soundtrack recordings.
Whether he stuck closely to the demo, or reference disc, or completely reworked the tune, he made it at least interesting and listenable, and those that didn't make that cut (like "Hey Jude") are given a fair chance.
Since '68, I still can't believe what he did with "You'll Never Walk Alone"; discovering years later it was he on piano working out a "head" arrangement on the spot, made it seem even greater. This book will remind you why you liked a particular track in the first place or why you should have. At age 17, I didn't appreciate the depth of this performance, which in this book is described with masterful strokes. Another revelation for me was in reading about "Crying In The Chapel". I've always enjoyed Elvis' record of it, but thought he could have put more *voice* on it. Roy and Aspell evaluated the number as a whole and brought out nuances which have caused me to realize that it, too, is A-list.
I would have been happy to find reviews of movie fluff entries like "Sand Castles" or "Shake That Tambourine", but let's hope we get an "alternate take edition" of this fine manuscript.
ELVIS'S BEST.......2007-03-16
THIS NOVEL SHOULD GO DOWN IN HISTORY AS ONE OF THE GREATEST BOOKS TO EVER BE WRITTEN ABOUT THE KING OF ROCK -N- ROLL . IT'S REALLY GOOD . IT TELL'S THE STORY BEHIND 112 OF THE KINGS GREATEST AND NOT SO GREATEST SONGS .IT FOCUSES ON WHAT REALLY IS GREAT ABOUT ELVIS' LIFE HIS MUSIC !
A FITTING TRIBUTE TO THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING.......2003-02-23
There have been 4,567 books written about Elvis, mostly by people who have never known him, but whose third cousin's sixth-removed niece might have once dated Elvis' former schoolteacher's third wife. Then there's "The Essential Elvis." What makes this book so different is that Samuel Roy and Tom Aspell trace Elvis' life and legacy through personal history as well as 112 of his most significant songs. The book doesn't proclaim to be an expose or definitive history (it's neither); what it is is a clear portrait of the Man Who Would Be King, told through behind-the-scenes knowledge that uncovers and pieces
together the story of a man, his times, talent and cultural influences. And the 20 photographs -- many of which have never been published --- add a nice touch.
A tribute to the King!.......2000-09-09
This excellent book is about what was most important to Elvis and his fans: his songs and music. One of the most significant things the authors said about Elvis is the following words: «The first and best thing that can be done for Elvis Presley is to lessen the emphasis that has been placed on his later years and focus on the talent and genius that define the King.....one of the reasons for his demise was because he cared and felt too much...it got to the point that being Elvis Presley was one of the hardest jobs in the world». I agree completely with the authors and, as a fan, my only wish is that this book will make the people, who don't respect Elvis, see the light...
Essential Reading.......1999-09-25
"The Essential Elvis" is a thoughtful exploration of Presley's music from 1954 until his death in 1977. It's an important and much-needed work that concentrates solely on Presley's artistry. Authors Samuel Roy and Tom Aspell break free from the ill-informed mythology of most Elvis publications by re-examining Presley's work in provocative, exciting ways. You may not agree with all of the writers' criticisms, but it encourages you to track down the 112 Elvis recordings listed in their book.
