Book Description
Ruth Johnson has finally left her abusive husband of fourteen years and jumped feet first into 'What the hell do I do now?' oblivion. Into her life comes the fiesty, outspoken Bernice a.k.a. 'Bernie;' sweet Southern belle, May; and the older, wiser, and gentler Clara. These four very different women, each with different stories to tell, come together under the sometimes tenuous, but always unbreakable bond of friendship. Life is just getting interesting and if they hold on to each other, they just might make it.

A very good read.......2006-10-17
This book was good from the beginning to the end. I was hooked on the first page. The author did a very good job with the characters. This book also taught me the importance of forgiving and healing and how they both work together.
A Brilliant Book of Encouragement!!.......2006-08-07
This is a brilliant book that will give any woman a great dose of encouragement, whether she thinks she needs it or not! The character Ruth along with her friends Clara, Bernie, and May will remind everyone woman of a friend that she has or once had. The way the protagonist Ruth overcomes her struggles and even her ability to admit her faults will empower encouragement into your heart. The novel absolutely caught my attention from page 1 to the end. I laughed out loud and wanted to cry at times. J.D. Mason definitely has a gift and I intend on reading each of her books I recommend this book for every WOMAN to READ!

Fyre Brand By Lora Leigh She holds the elemental power of fire within her grasp. Able to sear, to destroy, but her heart holds the fear of repeating her ancestors' mistakes. Now, amid a world fighting to rebuild, Carmella must learn that she alone cannot control the power surging through her fragile body. She'll need help. But can she accept the future her leader Torren has seen, and the touch of a stranger who is more than he seems? Rayne Dance By Mlyn Hurn Keeping her psychic powers hidden had come to mean living the life of a near-hermit for Rayne. That was not difficult since she lived in a small community and worked as a farmer. Life wasn't easy, especially with the drought, but Rayne suddenly had two new men in her life. Sean owned the farm next door, but was he just another rancher? Then the French foreigner enters her life. Suddenly, being psychic is fraught with sexual tension and danger. Her life could be forfeited if she trusted the wrong man. Wynd Temptress By Kathryn Anne Dubois As a descendant of the most malevolent and despotic psychic ruler in history, Jezermiah, a powerful psychic herself, wants nothing to do with her legacy and will do anything to keep her secret. But the ruling government has found her and sends sexy psychic cop, Adam, to make sure of her intentions. Jezermiah wants nothing to do with him, despite her powerful attraction to him. She is fearful that mating with a psychic as powerful as herself will create another monster like her great-grandfather. Adam, convinced they are destined for each other, will stop at nothing until he makes her his.

Wish it was not mine.......2007-03-09
I HAD STARTED READING THIS BOOK AND I WAS DISAPPOINTED EVEN THOUGH IT HAD SOME HOT SCENES THE PLOTS WAS BORING AND BLAND. BECAUSE IT COSTED A GOOD AMOUNT OF FUNDS I MADE MYSELF FINISH IT. I LOVE READING IT IS MY JOY AND MY ADVENTURE BUT THIS BOOK NEEDED TO BE PUT IN MY SHREDDER. MY BOOKS ARE MY FRIENDS BUT THIS TIME I RECEIVED A LEMON INSTEAD OF AND APPLE
A HOT HOT Anthology!.......2006-01-24
Fyre Brand by Lora Leigh
Carmella's power is both amazing and frightening. She is a firebrand and she is losing control of her power. Her lover, Torren, is also a seer and he knows the only way to save Carmella is through Ryder. Ryder has dreamed of Carmella for the last year and now that he has found her, he is not going to let her go. Will the love of these two men save Carmella?
Nobody can deliver a solidly written novella like Lora Leigh. With solid character development and a well written plot, Fyre Brand is a hotly intense read! Blisteringly erotic and heatedly passionate, you will lose yourself in this amazing love story. My favorite novella in this anthology, Fyre Brand is a keeper!
Wynd Temptress by Kathryn Anne Dubois
A powerful psychic, Jezermiah hides her identity due to the legacy of her ancestry. A great granddaughter of an evil psychic leader, the government fears Jezermiah's intentions. Adam is sent by the government to determine the threat Jezermiah brings. Instantly attracted to Jezermiah, Adam is intent on winning her. Fearful of a life with Adam, Jezermiah fights her feelings for Adam. But Adam is determined...
Full of sexual tension, Wynd Temptress is an exciting read! I love an Alpha hero and Adam is just that! These two really butt heads and the sparks fly. Wynd Temptress is a really HOT read!
Rayne Dance by Mlyn Hurn
Rayne must keep her psychic powers secret and to do that she must isolate herself from others. When Rayne meets her neighbor Sean she is drawn to him despite her need for secrecy. But Rayne isn't the only person in this small farming community keeping a secret. What is Sean hiding and does it threaten Rayne's very existence?
A delightful love story, Rayne Dance by Mlyn Hurn is very sensual. I especially liked Sean. His family helped add dimension to the story and his character. Sweet and sexy, Rayne Dance is a great addition to this anthology.
I especially loved this anthology! The three stories were tied together so well that I couldn't wait to read them all. For a really erotic read, I highly recommend Elemental Desires!

A return to the bestselling Revelation Space universe.
Two novellas of interstellar exploration set in the universe of Alastair Reynolds's award-winning Revelation Space trilogy.
Customer Reviews:
Not Free SF Reader.......2007-08-31
Two excellent novella style works, here. The first is about an alien artifact that is a complicates of series of mathematical puzzles that get harder as they go on, and the desperate lengths people will go to to try and understand it.
The second is about two sisters and their relationship with the biology of the strange ocean on their planet, as well as the unstable political situation they live in.
Fine work.
Mathematics requires surgical precision.
5 out of 5
I sea we have a problem.
3.5 out of 5
First Novella Okay, Second Novella Better.......2007-07-01
The first novella in the book, "Diamond Dogs," has some very interesting secondary characters and an intriguing setting, but overall, there is not enough to sustain interest - depending on if you like mathematical, geometrical puzzles that you cannot see (i.e. there are no drawings or pictures accompanying the text), you may find yourself skimming paragraphs and pages.
The second novella, "Turquoise Days," is significantly better and I certainly thought the setting and the characters may have been one of Mr. Reynolds original storylines in his novels, but might have been edited out in favor of another. As such, the characters are more developed, the story much more engaging, and the pacing well done.
If you are an Alastair Reynolds fan, get this book; if you are new to his writing, I'd skip this in favor of PUSHING ICE.
Explore the universe.......2007-06-27
You are still in the same 'universe' as the Revelation Space series, exploring different aspects of life. Diamond Dogs was a bit creepy and compelling to read. Then it seemed like Alastair was told to wrap up the book, so he did - a bit abruptly; with a nice twist at the end. I really enjoyed Turquoise Days. This story takes place on a juggler world; sometimes death is not the end of life.
One great story, one disappointing.......2007-02-20
Four stars is the average of what the two novellas deserve separately. "Diamond Dogs" is a tightly written science-fictional horror story with a film-noir atmosphere, a fast-paced human drama, and a gripping ending. All I could say at end was "Wow!" (a creeped out and shivering "wow"). Five stars.
"Turquoise Days" rates three stars at best, maybe even two. It feels very unfinished, more an outline of a novel than a complete story, and is not really consistent with the rest of Inhibitors Universe (in which it supposedly takes place). The characters are uninteresting and the plot falls flat -- to me, anyway.
I have one complaint about "Diamond Dogs" novella which I am surprised no one brought up yet. The series "1,3,5,7" is NOT prime numbers! Even if by some tortured alien logic "1" is a prime, there is no way to exclude "2" and claim the result is prime numbers sequence. Yet all the characters agree that's what the sequence is, and that next number should be "11". Ordinarily I would ignore it as a minor blooper, but mathematics plays a major role in "Diamond Dogs" which makes it jarring. Especially considering it is written by an astrophysicist who ought to know what prime numbers are!
2 enjoyable long short-stories.......2007-02-19
I did not buy this book when it was released initially due to annoyance/disappointment with how the final volume of the inhibitors series had been written (quality/plot issues), so did not read this until recently. I didn't realize even then that it was 2 fairly long short-stories rather than a stand-alone novel (imagine my surprise when I read the final page of Diamond Dogs and turned the page), but in any event this is well worth reading. Both stories are set in the inhibitor universe, diamond dogs more as a placeholder I think, turquoise sky much more clearly, as it deals with a pattern juggler planet.
Some spoilers follow.
I thought Diamond Dogs could have been expanded into a novel-length story. The Blood Spire was a well-created concept, moderately disturbing, and as with much of reynold's work (I think his aliens are the MOST alien in any SF I have read), convincingly alien. I still find my self wondering how small the doors would have gotten, or what indeed might have been at the top? I can only assume something sufficiently sadistic given everything else that was shown. I did have some trouble believing in how driven some characters (besides Roland, obviously) were in pushing onward despite what had been seen even a little-ways in.
Turquoise Sky involves a human colony on a pattern juggler planet and some issues they have when a starship comes in-system with visitors. This was enjoyable and well-written, but didn't draw me in that much - it was more a suspense/action story.
Great collection - get it if you enjoy anything else this man has written.
Book Description
Featuring performances by: William Bennett, Elayne Bennett, Stephen Collins, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Megan Gallagher, Charlton Heston, Simon Jones, Rita Moreno, Tonya Pinkins, Richard Thomas, and Betty White.
More than two million readers and listeners have used William Bennett's The Book of Virtues to help their families learn the essential traits of good character. Now his inspiring and instructive volume, The Moral Compass, offers more examples of good and bad, right and wrong, in great works from literature and in exemplary stories from history.
Organized by the stages along life's journey, The Moral Compass moves from the first character lessons taught in the home to the countless choices that call the virtues into play. The stories and poems continually serve as reference points on a moral compass, guiding the reader through the ethical and spiritual challenges along the pathway of life: leaving home, entering into marriage, easing the burdens of others, nurturing one's children, and fulfilling the obligations of citizenship and leadership.
Offering well-known examples from Western history and mythology along with tales and folklore from Asia, Africa, and Latin America, The Moral Compass is an indispensable guide for the family to meet the challenges of life at any age.

A THIRD SERVING ?.......2004-04-17
A previous reviewer wrote that Mr. Bennett's first two books on morals and virtue were wonderful, and could we look forward to a third serving? If we can it will need a thesis such as moral gambling or the virtue of pulling slots. For all his lecturing to the unwashed about morals and virtue, something is obviously missing. This joker's moral compass pointed him right into the casinos. He has no credibility. Yet this pompous, self-righteous baffoon still has the nerve to show up and lecture us on Faux News. Probably needs the money to cover the latest spread. A suggested title for the next book: The Moral Ass.
Not quite as good as the first, but well worth reading........2003-01-06
This is the companion book to Bennett's best selling The Book of Virtues. This volume is like a continuing education course for readers of the original Bennett compilation.
I have to say, I didn't like it quite as well as The Book of Virtues, but then, when is the sequel ever as good as the original? Like the original, you will recognize some of the work here. Authors such as Hans Christian Anderson, Washing Irving, Thomas Jefferson and Robert Lewis Stephenson
Like the original volume, this book should be required reading in every High School in America and belongs in everyone's home library.
are these the morals our children should be learning about?.......2000-12-26
This book is supposedly filled with "morals," but how can we expect our children to grow up being civilized creatures with the vile things that garbage, such as this book, instructs us and our children to adhere to. Don't buy this book unless you already have your own firm morals that you can use to judge Mr. Bennet's trash against!
Basic Tried and True Values in Short Story Form!.......2000-07-09
Loved it! It is a wonderful book that brings the reader back to the basic tried and true values. I love William Bennett, he makes sense of this world and cuts to the core. You can not help but agree with him. The stories told offer insight into many of life's dilema's that may arise from joy, hurt, love, anger, and basically a sense of fair play. At any time there is something to be gained by each story told. It is very well written and attention grabbing. Worth the purchase!

FROM THE PUBLISHER: The Moral Compass, the inspiring and instructive companion volume to The Book of Virtues, offers many more examples of good and bad, right and wrong, in great works from literature and in exemplary stories from history. Organized by the stages along life's journey, The Moral Compass moves from the first character lessons taught in the home, which shape the way children see life, to the countless choices that call the virtues into play as they grow older. The stories and poems serve as reference points on a moral compass, guiding the reader through the ethical and spiritual challenges along the pathway of life: leaving home, entering into marriage, easing the burdens of others, nurturing one's children , and fulfilling the obligations of citizenship and leadership. The Moral Compass offers well-known examples from Western history and mythology along with a wider selection of tales and folklore from Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Drawing on familiar authors such as Hans Christian Andersen, Washington Irving, Leo Tolstoy, and John Milton, as well as on intriguing but forgotten tales from centuries past, the stories in the Moral Compass are literary and evocative, designed to inspire as well as instruct. Drawn from the Bible and Homer, from the legends of cultures throughout the world, from plenty of Victorian writers, and from the popular magazines of the preWorld War II era, the selections are uniformly readable, definitely and honorably moral, as promised.

Endless inspiration.......2006-03-04
I found 'On Display' in the local library and was delighted with it. The text is actually relevant to the photos and enlarges on the ideas illustrated without getting technical or arty crafty. In fact, even on its own, the text of the book inspires creativity.
I am surprised that the previous reviewer was so disappointed. Perhaps a better book for her would be one on storage such as 'Organised Living' by Dawna Walter.
The strength of this book was its ability to inspire me to develop my own ideas; such as using a floral cushion on a plain white sofa to inspire a large but simple abstract on the wall using one of the motifs. Then there's the old, pewter bucket holding large dried leaves, arranged as if pages in a book that prompted me to create a similar display with huge leathery leaves and an antique leather container. Surely success is when the reader says, "I could do that!"
The book shows unusual and artistic ways of displaying your personal treasures and making them a charming and sometimes whimsical part of your decor. Even if you are into minimalism, a single possession can make a bold statement against stark white. The reader is helped to see the possibilities in anything: plates, bowls, books, bags, shoes, scarves, jewellery, collectables mixed with modern - even in one place, a display of old pick handles and heads is turned into a fascinating sculpture on a plain wall - right next to the pure lines of a modern chair. This display suited the muted, Spanish-style interior - not a syle eveyone would want, but it showed how it is possible develop a theme - and even mix styles with flair.
I have ordered my own copy of Lesley Dilcock's 'On display' as there is still so much more to explore. It will take me a while to finish with this book.
Good, but not great.......2003-02-11
I really looked forward to buying this book, because I was looking for an interesting, but uncluttered, way of displaying my pottery, vintage jewelry, etc. Unfortunately, though some of the illustrations are interesting, very few of them are truly creative. Most of the ideas I could have come up with on my own. And I was hoping that there would be some kind of "how to" aspect to the book as well, so that if I did see something I liked (i.e. shelves), there might be instructions as to how to create them. Unfortunately, there were not.
Though I'll hang onto this book for occassional inspiration, it wasn't nearly as wonderful as I hoped.

Disappointment.......2004-12-23
After recieving the first Metalheart book, I was very excited getting this book (MH2), but was very disappointed of the outcome. Some of the work in this book is great, but the most part its terrible. The projects seem incomplete. The CD is just a waste. There is no cool Fonts like the ones in the first book. The background images are terrible. If you like these kind of designs I suggest you get the original Metalheart, NOT Metalheart2.
Once again...50/50.......2004-06-19
I reviewed the first Metalheart book, and I was a little harsh on Ronnblom. Whenever you have a collaboration between somebody who's really excellent (Lindholm) and somebody who clearly sucks, it's hard not to call attention to the fact. Ronnblom seems like one of those people who just lets his 3D apps make mistakes, which he then proceeds to call "fonts" and "dingbats"...lol. They are ugly, weird, and pointless. Anybody plan on using the fonts included on the disc, or the "3D objects," in one of your own pieces? I didn't think so. Lindholm, by contrast, has mastered his medium. However, he's barely evident in this sequel, so you'll have to look elsewhere for real talent. Check out Dimitar Karanikolov's astounding architectural landscapes, the exploding technological nebulae of Kalle Everland and Per Gustafson, James Marsden's beautiful 3D wildstyle, Charlie Owens' re-organizations of chaos, and, although I don't see how they fit into the general theme, the interesting photoshop montages of Viktor Koen and Alessandro Bavari. I have definitely been inspired by their work in this book. However, just as in the previous installment, there are also pages and pages and pages devoted to Ronnblom's ridiculous masturbatory nonsense. It REALLY makes you wonder how he consistently tricks people into letting him bring down the quality of their projects. Plus, there are also several other featured artists who suck just as bad. I really need to try and get in the next Metalheart, cuz even though I'm not all that cocky, I know I can blow some of these toys out of the water. Maybe that's the idea - to give us all some hope. lol
Alright.......2003-05-15
I liked this book a lot. Althought the first version was better this one shows great design pages including 3D.
Very disappointing.......2003-03-03
If you're familiar with the first (and excellent) MetalHeart book, you know the two authors: The super-talented Andreas Lindholm, and his less-talented mate, Andres F. Ronnblom.
In the second book, you will find little of Lindholm, and a lot of Ronnblom.
You will find a lot of those wierd (and not-so-wonderful) "3d" typefaces that were on the first book, and some very unpolished 3d works by Ronnblom. Very little works by Lindholm, and guest works which in no way rise to the standarad set by the first book.
The DVD that comes with the book (which, btw, is geaerd towards Mac users), is not much better. It containes the same old stuff by Ronnblom, some amturish textures (those were taken with a consumer-level camera, have a lot of noise, are badly lit, and some are out of focus), and some Quicktime clips.
I expected a lot from those full-resolution clips, but frankly, I dont understand why they bothered to include full-resolution.
some of them are half-works, some look like student projects, and only two or three are interesting. Certainly dont expect any gmunk-level stuff here.
All in all, a BIG disappointment. If you like the first one, this is not it.

Dynamic, emotional book.......2004-09-19
I've read this book on and off the past 6 1/2 years. Jenny Jones wrote a very moving book. She has survived a lot of the things put against her, even that one secret crush show that her talk show was sued for. I commend her for going 12 years with her talk show, which ended in 2003. She managed to get better at hosting it, even through some of the tired infidelity shows. The rocky relationship with her mother is strongly mentioned in this book. There were several well written chapters, even the court chapter that occurred in Michigan. This book told me the real Jenny Jones, as told from her.
Great Book!.......2000-07-10
This book was wonderful! It was almost more like a novel than a biography. The first few chapters drag on but once u get to her adult life, it is impossible to put down. Jenny seems really down to earth and it is amazing that she can still be so great after all of the adversity that she has experienced in life.

It was very touching to see that a person of "show biz" was willing to share her true story with the public and her fans. This novel depicts her struggle from childhood to adult life. Jenny shares both her triumphs and tragedies in a plain but interesting manner. I was particularly touched when she shared about losing her elderly parents. I can certainly identify with this from my own family. It is a difficult time. She proves that anything is possible if you want to do it. She is an inspiration!

Excellent, Excellent and Excellent.......1998-09-28
I read the book on an a trip and finished reading it before I got to my destination. It was a book that was written from the heart. I admire Jenny for her openess and felt like I was right there with her. Who she is today is a product of what she came through growing up. I think it would be an honor and a pleasure to meet her and say how proud I am of her. Jenny we love you. HOMH Leigh
