Book Description
The first exploration of the sex lives of modern teens, as reported from the frontlines by twenty-year-old Marty Beckerman.
Innovatively combining fact and fiction, the book is filled with mind-shattering stats, news reports, and confessions from adolescents nationwide about the new American "Hook-Up Culture," in which 7,700 kids lose their virginity every day.
Far from religious proselytizing, Generation S.L.U.T. seeks to find the balance between sexual freedom and sexual responsibility, and even the most cynical readers (not to mention parents) will find themselves speechless and heartbroken. Blunt and brutal, tackling everything from preteen oral sex to gun violence, sexual assault, and suicide, Beckerman's tour de force through contemporary adolescence will leave you stunned, breathless, and ultimately horrified.

No substance - No value.......2007-09-02
This book is very boring, full of stories that never end with ONE POINT: all teenagers have no respect for their bodies, and they are having sex like rabbits! The author tries to make his views more legitimate by providing so many statistics.
1. The book is not interesting
2. The idea of the book, teens and their instatiable desire for sex, is very old by now.
3. The book tries to scare people into moral panic rather than give a true picture of all types of teenagers.
Sadly True.......2006-10-05
What KIDS did in film, this book does for literature. It's a must read for any one who wants to know what their children just might be up to.
A justified middle-finger to American teenagers!.......2006-06-23
Finally, an exposition of the dark truth of American teenagers. This book definetely showed the horrific state of American teenager's lifestyles without holding back. It's a social necessity: this is an entire GENERATION that will damage America in the future if something isn't done. I can relate: in my school, the teens are HELLBOUND: they curse, drink, have sex, do drugs and God knows what else.
A shocking book.......2006-06-16
Beckerman is completely insane -- and that's a good thing. What he has done is to throw back the curtain to show us the horrible moral decay that has afflicted the children of the Woodstock Generation. The graphic language and sexual content may shock adults, but this is how young people talk and what young people do. Just when you think to yourself, "That's too far-fetched to ever happen," you turn on the TV or pick up a paper and see that it already HAS happened: Teenagers posting self-porn on the 'Net, the Duke gang-rape case, etc. Despite its pornographic content, Generation S.L.U.T. is fundamentally a socially conservative book, and Beckerman's a Robert Bork for the MTV era. Marty shows us the emotional and physical wreckage wrought by the serial betrayals of the "hook-up" age among kids with too much privilege and not enough supervision.
Awesome book........2006-03-22
I thought this was an amazing book. The mix of statistics, the author's own personal stories, and the short story all mixed together was original and great. Though many people didn't like that the book is published by MTV I thought that that just added to the fact that the author is a part of this generation that he speaks about in the book. This is definetly worth reading.

Early American intrigue.......2006-09-03
I read this a couple months ago, but forgot to write a review. Some of the details are a little sketchy now, but I enjoyed this book. It is my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more of her works. (I don't understand the reasons for the one-star reviews.)
The setting is in Virginia in the colonies prior to the Revolutionary War. Shermaine and Gage have good charisma as the heroine and hero. There is a fair amount of intrigue in this book from various people who depise Shermaine. Some of the hatred is unrealistic and questionable. After months of suffering cruelty on a prison ship (for a trumped-up charge), Shermaine finds a wonderful man and nice life in the backwoods of Virginia.
Pick another Woodiwiss book.......2003-11-16
I was terribly disappointed with this book. I'm surprised that KEW wrote it. I would highly recommend Shanna (named my daughter after it), A Rose in Winter, and The Wolf and the Dove - all of which are classics worth reading again and again. Kathleen E. Woodiwiss will always be my favorite romance novelist because of the outstanding quality of the aforementioned books. Skip Petals on the River, though. As much as I loved the other books, I hated this one. Really the worst romance novel I've ever read.
Bad, but don't give up on this author...........2003-09-16
I don't understand how KW can write such classic material in most of her previous novels, then ruin the book by droning on and on with boring dialoge and settings. By that point, who cares about these otherwise memorable characters? This book, however didn't even get that far. It was totally boring, lifeless, if you will, which aggravated me as I'd waited a long time to read it.
Never a dull moment...but isn't that how it is with KW books.......2003-09-11
I some how missed this one when I was reading KW books years ago and was in the mood for a REAL romance. I wasn't disappointed. Yes, you can tell this was written years ago. But it is still a good one. Shemaine O'Hearn has been falsely accused of thief, put in prison, and sent by ship to the colonies to remove her from her prestigious fiance's life (inwhich his family didn't think she was good enough). She is sold as an indentured servant to the highest bidder - Gage Thornton, widow and local ship builder who needs a nanny for his toddler son. Rumors have it that Gage killed his wife by pushing her off his ship during a fit of rage due to an angry temper. But Shemaine can't imagine such after seeing him handle his son with love and her with respect and kindness. Desires begin to grow between Shemaine and Gage but they work at dealing with them honorably while a few in the community try to stir rumors up about their living conditions and her past. There is one in particularly that just knew Gage would turn to her to replace his deceased wife. Jealously strikes out between her and Shemaine. Then Shemaine's family show up from Scotland in search for her, along with her English fiance - but it is too late. Shemaine and Gage couldn't ignore feelings any longer and got married. Tempers flair and - by the way - just how did Gage's first wife really die? It was true Woodiwiss style of writing with romance and suspence (that, yes, you could probably guess at but was still good). I enjoyed it and felt the love between Shemaine and Gage. Yes, I recommend it!
I gave this five stars because I love Woodiwiss' novels.......2003-04-30
I will admit that it was a little slow at times, but, a very good read, and I will more than likely read it again. I have read every Kathleen novel I can get my hands on and love her characters. Shemaine and Gage had awesome chemistry, and I loved their interaction with Andy. For the person who said that Shemaine was convictted of murder, did you not read the book? She was convicted of theivery!!! And for the person who found Gage an irresponsible parent, since when is it irresponsible to hire someone to watch your kid while you work. Lets get a grip!! All in all, I would read this again in a heartbeat. It is a keeper.

The message is a summons from the Spiders, the exotic and mysterious creatures who run the Quadrail, an incredible transportation system connecting civilizations across the galaxy. Customer Reviews:
Guilt! Guilt! Guilt! And More Guilt!.......2006-09-01
This is one of the most poorly written books I have read in recent times. From its tortured grammer to its flawed psychology, all it peddles is guilt and self loathing despite anything the author may say to the contrary. Sexual drive, fantasies and masterbation (yes, Mrs Payne, even after puberty!) are normal biological responses. Many people have fantasies about homosexual sex, but never act them out, and have no real desire to act them out. This is not something to thrash oneself over, even as a Christian. The two main case studies in this book involve people who are suffering, not because of homosexuality but because of parental neglect and abuse. Mrs Payne and her ilk need to realise the two are, more often than not, unrelated. She constantly confuses sexuality with degrees of masculinity and femininity. Homosexuals are no more likely to be sterotypically feminine or masculine than heterosexual men and women. I'm sure some people can change their sexual orientation for whatever reason but just as some people are 'hard wired' as exclusively heterosexual, some people are also wired to be excluively homosexual and no amount of prayer, guilt or 'tough love' will change that. It will just result in one very angry, damaged and often suicidal person, not to mention broken marriages, confused and hurt spouses and distressed children. Hardly the desired outcome. All I learned from this book is that Christian guilt and the shame associated with not living up to the standards of one's peers are far more destrutive to the human psyche and spirit than the so called 'condition' of homosexuality.
PRACTICAL Help on how to invite the POWER of God to HEAL .......2006-05-15
Book about inviting Jesus to do it and to show you what your real need is (i.e. comfort, love, security, a hug, to be held, to be affirmed, etc.) and learning how to "hear" what He is saying and see what He is doing. A little heady reading, but well worth the seeing what its about.
I now have HOPE too because Jesus helped me with my battles with lesbianism and continues to help me- now He's helping me with my anger and frustration that I sometimes display with my children. But you know what?- Jesus is there to help me, to help you through anything whether it's homosexuality or whether its through anger or whether it's through problems with... well, you fill in the blank. He just promises to be there to help because the Bible says that Jesus "came to seek and save what was lost." (Luke 19:10). You ever feel lost? I know I have and I have been so amazed at this Jesus who never gave up and never gives up on me even when I have and think He should. There really is HOPE, my friend. The sadness and always pursuing in other women what I wanted from my mom is and what I wanted to see in me is just engulfing and never satiated or satisfied when I go at it with this route. I just felt like I only hungered for more and more versus ever feeling truly met. Well, now Jesus is teaching me a peace about myself (get that!- too cool as at one point I would never have imagined it) and more and more about sweet friendships and loving women in a deeper way than I ever could before. He's also letting me be loved in a deeper way than I've known before too- Jesus just blows me away. Take care, my precious fellow traveler. I hope you find rest along the way too.
Good Integration of Theology and Theory.......2005-01-12
Leanne Payne's book brings together the classical views of both orthodox theology believed through the centuries about sexuality and the Healing Power of Christ (see writings of Patristic Fathers such as Irenaeus, St. Basil, Gregory of Nyssa and Gregory Nazianzus) as well as psychoanalytic theory predominantly accepted before the removal of Homosexuality from the DSM III (and still developed by practioners today such as Nicolosi and Socarides, among others). Those who are of the more recent Gay Affirmative persuasion (i.e. the last 20 years or so) and who espouse the complete impossibility of change or reorientation for those whose values are in conflict with their sexual attractions will disagree with this and may have many vitriolic epithets and accusations for theologians and theorists of the same persuasion as this book. But the theoretical and theological basis of Payne's writings resonate with a broad spectrum of theologians such as Joseph Pieper, Thomas Aquinas, and Donald Bloesch, and with psychological theories drawn from both psychoanalytic and developmental perspectives such as Object Relations and Logos Therapy. As she is coming from a purely Christian worldview, she promotes the transforming and healing power of God through the redemptive work of Jesus in his incarnation, life, death and resurrection. For those who are not espousing this worldview, they may find those aspects of her work objectionable. And for those who espouse some sort of christian worldview that embraces homosexuality as normal and part of God's design, objections may also be strong and passionate. But in a truly tolerant and multi-cultural society, there must be room to agree to disagree, and within that mileu, Payne's work deserves as good a hearing as any soundly researched and founded work would, however particularly founded and researched it is on certain pervasive worldviews and perspectives within the multitude of alternate ones existing in our culture today.
Great for Homosexual who tries so hard to follow JesusChrist.......2004-11-04
I was a lesbian (homosexual) but got saved through the salvations of Jesus Christ. This book will teach you how to (lead people or yourself) pray and bring the great inner-soul healing and peace for any hardship and hurt that once were hidden so deep in the soul in the past and no one can retrieve it, not even psychologists. Great book, touches my heart and my soul, and help me to get out the homosexuality with a full peaceful heart and totally renewal life.
Religious Right Flim-Flam.......2004-04-03
As a licensed psychotherapist it is disturbing to see that "christian" writers must attempt to vilify homosexuality in the name of "love." Bigotry and lack of scientific evidence wrapped in the Bible is still bigotry. What all believers in "reparative therapy" (disavowed by the APA and the overwhelming majority of mental health professionals) cannot grasp is that behavior does not equal identity. Certainly heterosexuality is not defined only by it's erotic states. This "old shoe" theory of a maladaptive relationship with the father simply doesn't hold water in scientific studies. Also of note, is the "relapse" of the notable names in reparative therapy, (John Paulk among others.) Mainstream mental health professionals (heathens to the likes of Ms. Payne) believe that anyone can temporarily change sexual behavior, bisexuals for example. But behavior change does not equal identity change. Promoting that it does, is the big lie of christian counseling. (...)Payne and her ilk, (dispite growing evidence to the contrary) refuse to even consider the possibility that God created homosexuals. This does not fit into the evangelical rigid black and white thinking. Sadly, the clients I see have been tortured by this "Christian love", and are seeking a real path to heightened self-esteem through acceptance of themselves exactly as they are.

Customer Reviews:
A little confusing.......2006-06-16
I like this book for the most part and have gotten some good ideas from it but I only gave it three stars because it's confusing.
For example, in the 9 to 12 month section there is a recipe for honey glazed corn. Both of which are potential allergens. I'm pretty sure the US recommendation is not to give kids raw honey until after a year. There's also a lot of cheese, butter and milk in recipes in the 6 to 9 month section. Also confusing to me. Other books I have say to avoid dairy, especially milk until after a year.
The author is British, so maybe things are different over there? Whcih I also find confusing. The whole allergy thing is confusing to me and the introduction of certain foods. No baby food I've read does an adequate job of explaining the introduction schedule. Is the delay of certain foods because of the likelyhood of survivial if the baby has a serious allergic reaction of is it more to do with the ability to disgest certain foods due to maturity of the digestive system? Does any one really know? I've heard that in India watery peanut butter is baby's first food!
But any way, there are some good ideas in here, although I have largely ignored the age sections.
I also agree with the other posters and would like some healthier ideas, including more vegan alternatives and baking with whole wheat, flax, less sugar! How about no sugar.
Cathe Olson's books: Simply Natural Baby Food has some great ideas and she also has a good family cookbook called Vegetarian Mother's... something. Good healthy ideas for the entire family.
I love, love, LOVE this book!.......2005-09-19
I read and re-read this book for the first year of my son's life. I got wonderful recipe ideas and advice on freezing, too. My son enjoyed my purees very much. I always get compliments on what a "good eater" he is.
As we're not vegetarians, I also used, "Healthy Baby Meal Planner". These two books were a perfect pair for me.
A very pleasurable, informative book. When I have number two, I'll go right back to page one..no new books necessary!
I have a different idea of healthy babies and children..........2001-03-16
When my family and I became vegan, I needed some help with recipes for children. I found very few specifically vegan resources, and hoped that this book might have some vegan recipes.
It doesn't, and since it doesn't claim to be vegan that isn't a problem.
The problem, for me, is that the ingredients butter, cream, whole milk, and cheese are all throughout the book, most recipes containing more than one of those ingredients. I really can't imagine a baby or toddler being healthy eating SO MUCH saturated fat and cholesterol. Yes, their dietary needs are somewhat different from adults, but not so very different.
I was not able to try the recipes, but I rather think it should be a recipe book celebrating dairy and eggs. If you want to feed your kids lots of full-fat dairy and egg products, this is the book for you whether you are vegetarian or not.
If you want low-fat, whole-grain, vegetable-containing foods children will eat, skip this book altogether.
Pretty Book with interesting recipes.......2000-06-14
I was given this book by my lovely sister in law for my 2 children. Unfortunately, whilst the recipes sound lovely and they do work out, my family disliked all of them! I liked them but I am the only vegetarian in the house. I guess it depends what type of food you like. If you like the ingredients you will probably like the recipes. So if you are a vegetarian you will probably think it is great! Otherwise you may have a lot of converting to do.
Charming collection, but could be improved.......2000-04-18
Cute little drawings all over, easy to read. No nutritional info for each recipe. The recipes are organized by age of the baby. For instance, one chapter is called "First Flavors: 4-6 months" and another is called "Texture and Taste: 6-9 months."
The basic baby purees are pretty much vegan. Once you get into the recipes at 6 mos and over, there is a lot of egg, milk or dairy and will require adapting for a vegan family. Some of the adaptions are simple -- just using rice or soy milk instead of cow milk, others will require more experience with vegan cookery to make it come out right like in the baked goods.
I wonder about some of the selections because they use strong tasting ingredients like cabbage, curries, etc. An adult might enjoy them but I wonder how agreeable it would be for a baby? There is an effort though to keep the tone of the recipes simple and appealing to the average person.
The little smiley and unhappy faces with the boxes under each recipe is useful to check off how baby reacted to the food for future reference. Not a whole lot of margin space to write adaption or more comments though. Because a babies tastes change over time, I would have liked more space to note when I tried it again how baby reacted. Maybe several lines of happy and unhappy faces with a space to add the date?
Overall, it's a cute collection, and looks fun, but while I appreciate the effort to put together something that babies could deal with and create meals for adults that "pull out baby portions" easily for a toddler, I would have found it more useful if it had these things:
Notations for nutritional info per recipe.
If the recipe was vegan, ovo-, lacto- or lacto- ovo- with some kind of symbol
If the recipe freezes well with some kind of symbol
Space in back to write down allergies, etc.
More margin space to write down comments

Book Description
Perched on the edge of Lake Michigan, America's third largest city has long been famous for its modern architecture, raucous character and tumultuous history. During the past couple of decades however, it has become just as well known for its thriving restaurant scene. There is food and ambience to suit everyone's taste in this place nicknamed the "windy city". On offer are a range of imaginatively conceived menus served in exquisitely designed interiors. The best of these restaurants, bars, and lounges are profiled in this copiously illustrated little guide. Sample recipes and over 130 color photographs are included.

Book Description
With the endless amount of junk mail, spam, billboards, flyers, telemarketers, and commercials to which consumers are subjected, graphic designers must come up with ingenious ideas to cut through the clutter.
This book includes the A-list of projects that have found a way to grab the attention of their audiences, despite all the stimuli that can get in the way. These promotions overcome the recipients' knee-jerk reaction to toss them in the trash. It isn't easy to do. In the past, giving something away for free was the ticket to success, however this approach is no longer effective because everyone knows that if it's free, it's usually junk.
Those with the magic formula engage recipients by attacking their senses through humor, tactile effects, unexpected surprises, interactive measures, and lush or inviting materials or images, but they still need a clever concept to really drive the whole experience. It's a difficult challenge, and this book features wonderful examples of work that accomplishes just that.

Product Description
Theatrical producer André Charlot brought Parisian revue to Great Britain in 1912 and dominated his field for 25 years. He greatly influenced American musical theater with Charlots London Revue in New York in 1924. He created the kind of intimate revue the world came to identify as British, and was known for discovering and nurturing some of the greatest personalities in the centurys theater, including Beatrice Lillie, Gertrude Lawrence, Jack Buchanan, and Noel Coward. This biography, researched from sources including his personal memoirs, covers Charlots life and career from his youth in Paris to his time in Edwardian and interwar London, concluding with his final years in Hollywood playing all-purpose Europeans in B-movies and his death in 1956. Two unpublished essays by André Charlot are included as appendices: Beverly Hills, 1937 and A Quiet Game of Bridge. The work is illustrated with family photographs from all periods of Charlots life, production photographs from his revues, contemporary charicatures from Tatler Magazine, and production stills of Charlot as an actor from Hollywood films.
