Excellent Book.......2007-05-08
I have just discovered Linda Nichols, and this is the second book I have read by her. I am yet to be disappointed. I am someone who loves to read, but I quickly get impatient with books that give too much information or not enough. She keeps me interested. Her pace is excellent, and her characters are believable.
Wonderful read, didn't want to put it down .......2007-05-07
I read extensively, usually at least a couple of books per week, and this book was fabulous. I have read many an average book in my time, but this book would never be in that category. It grabbed you from the beginning page and didn't let go until the last sentence. The author tells a wonderful story, and her descriptive writing makes you feel the plight of each character. I couldn't put the book down. I can't wait to read this author's other books.
Could hardly stand to put it down!!!.......2006-12-01
I've read all of Nichols' books, and must say she is one of the best! She uses the most vivid descriptions, keeping my attention from start to finish! Months later, I still find myself going back to reference inspirational messages that I want to share with others! Highly recommend!
A wonderful book! .......2004-11-28
A wonderful book! I was divorced 10 years ago and I must say this book helped me look at my life after the divorce from a whole new perspective. After finishing it I felt as if I were looking at the world and my life with different eyes. It help to reaffirm my faith and made me see how much bitterness had been weighing me down.
Hard to put down.......2004-03-26
This book was so hard to put down. The story was about a young couple with a son who end up going their separate ways after Daniel does not answer a very important question by young Lenore. The book takes the reader through 15 years of their lives.
Lenore becomes a Christian as she struggles with life as a single mom to Scott. She is blessed with a great job, great friends, and a great home. Daniel, in contrast, is as far away from God as he gets. He lives a lifestyle as a Hollywood actor, but gets wrapped up in alcohol, debt, and multiple divorces. At the end of the book, Lenore and Daniel are in each other's lives again.
This book was so interesting to read. I had a very hard time putting this book down. The characters were interesting and easy to relate to. You could really feel the emotions of the various characters.

Book Description
The war was over . . .
But Shannon McCahy and Malachi Slater, embittered by the conflict, still fought a raging battle of wills all their own. A Yankee whose only solace was the land she had struggled to save, Shannon hated the hot-tempered Malachi, a Rebel on the run who stood for all she had come to despise.
Yet as jayhawkers and bushwhackers descended upon the lawless Missouri border, the two joined forces in a desperate search for their endangered loved ones. They clashed relentlessly, but as time ran out they were forced to realize there was something between them far stronger than hatred . . .
Customer Reviews:
#2 of the SLATER BROTHERS TRILOGY -.......2007-08-22
I have to laugh at the attitudes of these two - Malachi Slater and Shannon McCahy.
It took them a long time to realize that it was them fighting their hormones instead of true hate of one another. They both felt the attraction from the start. But, of course, Shannon had to mouth off at almost every encounter. She was very nieve about the attraction and Malachi was only used to sex without love.
Cole had taken off when Malachi shows up at the ranch but Shannon doesn't know at first that it is him and not some maurader.
Then the ranch was invaded by a group of men from Kansas who grabbed Kristin. And, of course, Shannon blows up and wants to charge the 20 some men who have her sister. Malachi starts by having to save her from her own foolish actions. She could have gotten him killed.
Shannon is bound and determined to follow Malachi in the rescue of her sister. Yeah! right! Way out on the trail she once again gets caught and leads Malachi in the opposite direction where Justin Waller lays claim to her. He is determined to have her any way it takes. The more brutul the beter.
Captain Malachi Slater rescues her [again] and of course it leads to seduction [or sex if you will] and finally they make it to the town of Haywood.
Where Malachi meets up with Iris Andre, a former lover, who offers to get word of Kristin for Malachi. Of course, Shannon is up to her old tricks, of mouthing off before she even knows what is going on.
Mr. and Mrs Haywood, practically own most of this town and they decide, from what they could see, that Malachi and Shannon should get married.
Oh boy, more trouble. A saloon girl gets murdered. One thing leads to another and suddenly Shannon gets abducted [again] in her nightgown.
Malachi gets sidetracked again. Dumb female!
Matthew shows up and so does Jamie. They all converge on Fitz's town and plan to hold up a train. Well, she does it again, Shannon and Iris get caught for Fitz when Bear recognizes Shannon. Fitz is determined to kill Cole and his brothers then the women.
See what the train hold-up leads to - and how the Slater families get together, leaving Iris and Matthew back at the ranch. And the Slaters heading for Texas.
Great plot - dumb, emotional female - libertine men - and nasty villians.
Excellent read.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED -- M -- moral attitudes out the window.
Slater Brothers Lasaga continue...Malachi & Shannon's story.......2003-10-01
The sequel to Dark Stranger - the story continues. Shannon McCahy (a yankee supporter) and Malachi Slater (a rebel soldier) pull together to look for Shannon's sister Kristin Slater, Malachi's sister-in-law, who has been kidnapped in hopes to draw her husband cole Slater out. The Civil War is over but the Slater brothers have been put on the Wanted List as murderers due to Cole Slater gunning down the man bushwacker that murdered his first wife and left Cole for dead. In Dark Stranger (the story of Kristin McCahy and Cole Slater) Shannon and Malachi couldn't be in the same room together without breaking into arguments- they hated each other that much or so it seemed. How are they going to be able to cooperate and work together to find Kristin and get word to Cole to stay put? They say the line between Love and Hate is very thin. Malachi spends as much or more time getting Shannon out of trouble because of her loud mouth and hot-temper. But when there's a threat of losing Shannon to bushwhackers Malachi realizes that he has crossed over from hate to love. All 3 brothers come together to save Kristin. It is great seeing them all together again. The characters are all powerful. It's a good read!
Loved this book..........2003-01-04
As the sequel to "Dark Stranger," I eagerly picked up this book. In my opinion, it was much better than the first. The heroine, Shannon, acted accordingly in response to events from the first book, including the horrible death of her fiance by bushwhackers. She had alot to overcome to believe in love again. Between the two books, you see her growth into a woman. Malachi, the hero, was just that in my mind--a hero. Although he was stuck into a situation by Shannon's doing, he still protected her always.
An entertaining read!.......2002-11-24
The first thing that caught my attention about this book was the title. I thought it was a very catchy title standing out among all the other books on the shelf. I haven't read too many books that take place during or after the Civil War, but I was really impressed with this book. The characters were wonderful and fit well together, although I thought Shannon was a bit too agressive when facing enemies. And aside from Malachi having to rescue her over and over again and giving the reader the feeling that you were reading the same thing over again, it was an entertaining book. I read it in one day. It's definitely worth reading if you're a romance buff.

Just As Good As You Thought It would Be.......1999-10-18
I had to search a long time to get this book, finally got it through Harquelin. It was just as good as I thought it would be diffently worth the wait and the search to find it. Shannon and Malachi butted heads and found their hearts and to no surprise they belonged to each other!!! Sat up until 3:00 a.m. just to finish it.

Four Stars.......2007-08-06
Another great installment of the Young Jedi knights in the Diversity set story. Jaina, Jacen, Tenel Ka and everyone are such interesting charactors. There was a new member Lusa who was just as interesting. I also liked Raynor's crush on her. I still find the Diversity Alliance so interest that they are out to kill all of humankind. Its not a story I expected to find in Star Wars but I'm enjoying it.
A very good book, worth 4 1/2 stars.......2001-01-06
Though I had read the intire Young Jedi Knights series (except the final trilogy) several times, I was surprised to note as I started reading it once again that this was the only one so far that I remembered virtually nothing about. In it, Jacen and Jaina's old friend Lusa comes to the Jedi Academy desperatly seeking refuge from the Diversity Aliance, an all alien political movement bent on destroying all humans, that she was once a part of. Meanwhile, everyone continues to search for Bornan Thul who is desperately trying to evade capture from the Diversity Aliance and keep from them the information he is protecting, because if they get ahold of it, it could mean the end of humankind... Meanwhile, Raynar gets a crush on Lusa and it moves him to do something for his family while his father (Bornan Thul) is missing. He decides to go to Mechis 3 and take care of his uncles droid operation since he too seems to be missing. As you can probably guess, everyone goes with him and discovers a startling truth. In general, this was a worthy book to continue this fascinating saga that tells of the next generation of Star Wars heroes, though not the best in the series. For one thing I wish they would include Anakin more. He is my favorite of the Solo children (with Jaina as a close second) and it's not as it there is even a big age difference, he is only a year and 1/2 younger than Jacen and Jaina. Another thing that bothers me is that who exactly gave all the kids permision fly around the galaxy by themselves? Just because Tenel Ka has her own ship somehow gives EVERYONE the freedom to go where they please. This does not sound like something that protective parents like Han and Leia would allow. I myself am fifteen, the same age as the kids in this series, and I am not allowed to do these things. Oh well, it is just a book. Oh, and one more thing, I would not advise reading this book before the others in the series, because it will make absolutely no sense on it's own.
Great series!!.......1998-09-28
I've been reading the Young Jedi Knights series from Book One and have always been looking for the next one to come out! I absolutely love how the characters have really come into their own and seem nearly real - almost like you know them! This book was not the best on I've read in the series, but it was good and I can't wait to grab the next one!
it was a little confusing but great anyway.......1998-09-19
great book!my favorite part is when Em Teedee gets his own repulsor unit. And Zekk completes his first official bounty hunter mission.BUY IT NOW!!!
Good but Jedi Bounty was a lot better........1998-07-05
The book was good but i think it definitly could have been better. For all you Star Wars fans I do recommand this book but only because this book is basically a kind of an understanding book. I mean it helps you understand what is going on but it needs a lot more action. But they definitly get better! So don't think that all of the books are like this.
Book Description
Wrestling with Angels
For over twenty years, psychotherapist, lecturer, and Bible teacher Naomi H. Rosenblatt has been leading some of the nation's best and brightest minds through the Bible, from Wall Street boardrooms to weekly sessions in the U.S. Congress, in what William Safire has called "the best Bible class for the layman." Drawing upon insights into human nature gleaned from decades of private practice and a lifelong study of the Bible, she sifts through the Bible's epic stories, filled with vivid characters in dramatic circumstances, to show how the lessons of their lives empower us today as parents, spouses, businesspeople, citizens, and lovers.
In
Wrestling with Angels, she and her co-author Joshua Horwitz retell and interpret the multigenerational saga of the first family of the Bible, showing how their all-too-human struggles are decidedly relevant to the issues confronting us today.
The Bible? Relevant today? Many readers will be surprised by how truly relevant the Book of Genesis is. It discusses, among other things, the first recorded case of sexual harassment; surrogate parenting and the problems it raises; siblings battling over the love of a parent; rape and its consequences; and vigilante justice. The issues faced by Adam and Eve, Abraham and Sarah, and their descendants are remarkably similar to those that arise in all of our lives, including:
The strenuous demands of adulthood
The challenges of faith
The joys of sexuality
The nature of leadership and heroism
The responsibilities of parenting
The role of values in building character
The empowerment of a spiritual identity
In this extraordinary book of timeless and profound wisdom, Naomi Rosenblatt invites both Christians and Jews to revisit our common spiritual heritage: "For the humanist, the religious, the agnostic, or the merely inquisitive,
Wrestling with Angels is an open invitation to probe the mystery, the miracle, and the drama of adult life in an imperfect world."
A book to be read again and again,
Wrestling with Angels is a poignant and pragmatic guide to the bestselling self-help book of all time.

Beautiful spiritual journey.......2006-10-20
Naomi is a psychotherapist, lecturer, and adult bible class teacher.
A unique study of the old testament teachings to help with our personal spiritual journey. How we should live our lives according to God. How we can shape the way we live and teach or children through the Patriarchs. The book starts with the creation; the order. Then moves to the flood and the descendants; from Abraham to Joseph. Beautifully written. Will never be dated.
Wish you well

Genesis as therapy.......2002-09-12
Wrestling With Angels: What the First Family of Genesis Teaches Us About Our Spiritual Identity, Sexuality, and Personal Relationships (Naomi Rosenblatt and Joshua Horwitz, Delacorte, 1995) is a book with a specific agenda: understanding Genesis as a series of lessons about the nature of human character. Her voice (it's largely hers; Horwitz is not much in direct evidence) is that of the therapist. The themes are as old as guilt and sibling rivalry and sexual temptation, and as "modern" as midlife crisis, blended families and surrogate parentage. We are comfortable with these psychological concepts, and Rosenblatt is generally successful at using these as tools to understand these stories --- and ourselves.
The subtitle's "Family" is a misnomer; it should be "Families". It covers people from Adam to Noah to Joseph, and they aren't considered one family in the normal sense. The chapter on the Tower of Babel doesn't involve any particular people.
There are 35 self-contained chapters. The titles set the theme: "Rachel and Leah: Competing for Love, Passion and Status", "The Brothers Reappear: Wrestling with Unresolved pain", "Abraham goes forth: Following a Personal Vision". She starts with a broad introduction to the theme, then sets the stage for the particular story. The story is presented via selected excerpts from Genesis. Interspersed are her comments and "imagined narrative details". Of these she says, "Our Embellishments to the original text of these stories are historically correct" whatever that means. It's unclear whether she's relying on traditional midrash or her own. Then she provides her summary, analysis and conclusions, sometimes including anecdotes from her own life.
The book displays both substantial weaknesses and strengths. On the minus side, the allegories and symbols are laid on rather thickly. For example, on page 267, there is entitled "The Well as the Portal of the Soul." But on 268, we are instead told that it is the stone (which covered the well) that is "the portal of her [Rachel's] ... soul." Further, we are told that "The well represents Rachel's virgin sexuality" and in the next sentence "the well is symbolic of Jacob's unconscious". In her discussion of the Covenant Between the Pieces, admittedly a very murky event, I found her symbolic explanation of the items unconvincing, and note that she omits any explanation of the smoking oven. Some things really are a stretch. One chapter is "Lot Departs the Clan: Letting Go of Children", but she presents no reasoning that Abram ever considered his nephew as a son. Putting the modern motherhood/career dilemma into Rachel/Leah story was unconvincing. None of the treatments are in any great depth, and the nuances of the Bible's language in telling these stories is entirely lost.
On the other hand, her handling of conflicts within the (extended) family is especially deft, and she turns to this, effectively, again and again. She had a particularly good feel for the character of Jacob, and her chapter on his wrestling with the "Personal Angels and Demons" was especially well done. She has an intriguing comparison between Noah and Oscar Schindler; I wish it had been more developed.
Her writing is clear and the almost conversational style easily draws the reader in, without wasting words. While many can learn from this, the book is especially good for beginners. It does not presuppose any knowledge of either the Bible or how it is approached, and makes no demands of a particular kind of faith. And it provides fresh evidence of why these stories are so enduring.
insightful, illuminating and contemporary.......2001-07-10
I was brought up as a Roman Catholic with biblical teachings emphasizing the New Testament and very little of the Old Testament. Wrestling w/Angels re-introduced me to the wise ancient stories of Genesis, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Not only is this book a great read, it is full of insights illuminating conflicts and challenges we continue to face in contemporary life. Whether or not you believe in the historical accuracy of the Bible, the people who are chronicled in its stories are important archetypes whose influence on our collective thought patterns is vast. Wrestling w/Angels is a key guide to understanding the meaning of those archetypes because they show us how we, as individuals and as a world, have developed our "identity, sexuality and personal relationships."
enlightening and illuminating.......2001-05-01
this is my second reading of wresting w/angels. i recommend it to those people who are curious about the biblical text and have never actually read it themselves. or to those who are familiar and well-versed w/the biblical text but are searching for new and fresh insights to be learned and discovered.
A triumph of the human spirit !.......2000-05-15
Naomi Rosenblatt leads us on an in-depth and eye opening journey through the Book of Genesis. I found her easy to read style similar to M. Scott Peck, in that she provides concrete examples of how the Book of Genesis relates to modern day life. This should be mandatory reading for all those contemplating a career in the helping professions - including law enforcement recruits. Her coverage of the concept of Hineni, Here am I, is especially poignant for parents and teachers. Regardless of our particular faiths this book can help us all understand the triumph of the human spirit. Ms. Rosenblatt's book is truly a work of art.

i really have to read the publishing information.......2005-03-11
while the patterns in this book are indeed from an australian magazine, the book is published by an american press, so the selection is geared to appeal to american taste.
it's not that the quilt patterns are bad--they are quite nice and if you have no other sources, this wouldn't be a bad choice. but the vibrant and original australian style is largely absent.
australia produces incredible embroidery, i have a couple of lace knitting books by an australian author that are really first rate, but neither this book nor it's companion volume do justice to australian design.

An excellent guide to world of dying kimono.......2002-04-14
If you are interested in the general process of dying kimono, and wondered how they produced the beautiful designs this book is for you. Stencils were created to lay down repetitive designs on long strips of fabric. This book traces how this craft became an art form on its own. Gorgeous reproductions complete the understanding of how this tool became as collectible and worthy of study similar to wood block prints. An end chapter expands on how this product of the textile process affected Americans personally and artistically. A must have for any textile fan!
Book Description
To some, Jesse James was a Robin Hood, a mythic figure of righteous retribution. To others he was the devil incarnate, a bloodthirsty hooligan, and cold-blooded killer. The disparity between these views is often attributed to an almost invisible link between the marauding Missouri guerrilla bands of the Civil War and the general lawlessness that plagued the Old West.
For more than twenty-five years Ted Yeatman combed through the National Archives, the Library of Congress, and numerous historical societies and private collectionsincluding those of many James family members and Jesse's great grandsonto produce this thorough examination of the careers of Frank and Jesse James. The result is a complete account of the James brothers during the Civil War, their sixteen years of notoriety, and the lives of those who outlived Jesse.
In 1866 the legend of the James brothers began with the first successful peacetime daylight bank robbery. It ended in 1882, when Jesse was killed by Bob and Charlie Ford while the three of them planned the robbery of the Platte City Bank. The fact that former gang members turned on Jesse later led Frank to surrender voluntarily to the governor of Missouri and face a trial. He was never convicted.
Ted Yeatman has created a thoroughly documented narrative that will be satisfying both to readers who know little about the James brothers and those who have read everything in print about them. Also included are dozens of heretofore unpublished illustrations and photographs of the people, places, and artifacts associated with the notorious James bandits.
Customer Reviews:
An fascinating topic made dull.......2006-02-21
That any reviewer can grant this book five stars, as some here have, boggles the mind. I have to seriously ask them what books they read that they consider this one worthy of such a high rating. Yes, the subject of the James boys is inherently fascinating and, yes, Ted Yeatman's research was extensive, which is worth one extra star, but as a writer he failed to present his material in an interesting fashion. First, he is too much in love with facts and uses them whether they are necessary or not. (I do not need to know, as just one example, the name of every insignificant Missouri militia outfit that ever marched in the same county as the James boys unless that name is relevant to them. Footnotes would have been a better location if Yeatman felt compelled to include this arcane data.) Another reason the narrative bogs down is that Yeatman failed to heed his word processor's grammar checker when it pointed out the thousands of passive sentences he wrote. Or perhaps he had that feature turned off. If so, he should flick it back on immediately. Lastly, a good writer spins out a narrative that flows like water. Yeatman's jumbled writing contains too many icebergs the reader must dodge or sink in the process.
I am not yet finished reading it and am not certain that I can continue to the end much as I want to learn about the James boys. What a shame. Bad writing made this book a great waste of the author's extensive knowledge. I fail to understand why Cumberland House published this book without extensive editing or not publish it at all. Obviously, they thought the subject material would carry it.
HISTORY AT IT'S BEST.......2005-09-20
Ralph P. Ganis, a James Gang Historian and Author, July 25, 2000, HISTORY AT IT'S BEST
Here's a toast to Historian Ted Yeatman who has given America the finest history of the James Gang to date. This book is a must for any student or enthusiast of America's outlaw brothers. The book reads well and the facts are presented in an excellent manner. My library on James Gang books includes more than 50 titles and Mr. Yeatman's book would be my #1 choice for accuracy. As a James Gang historian, I strongly recommend Frank and Jesse James: The Story Behind the Legend.
Great book! No glitz and hollywood hype, just historical facts!.......2005-09-20
If you want a glitzy Hollywood-type novel on the James Gang, then rent one of the many historically inaccurate movies available (such as American Outlaws, etc.). This book is not for the James Gang novice. If you want a basic book on the James Gang just to get your feet wet on the subject, then this book is way too advanced for you, so look elsewhere. But if you're interested in the real, in-depth history of the Gang, then this book is a must have! It is not a novel - it is a historical source book. Written by a true historian for people that want the truthful history!
The best work since Settle..........2002-10-09
Ted Yeatman has produced the best work on the James brothers since William Settle's 1966 "Jesse James Was His Name". His well-documented research over two decades has paid off with what I, a long-time researcher into the subject myself, consider a "must-have" volume for any James buff. Many books on this subject have appeared over the years, but Yeatman stands head and shoulders above the rest. Many specifics concerning Frank and Jesse are open to speculation, and Yeatman avoids the pitfall of expressing his opinions as facts--a lesson most writers on this subject have yet to learn.
Wanted, dead or alive: a good storyteller.......2002-03-29
Somehow, author Ted Yeatman has made Jesse and Frank James boring. One has to admire the depth and breadth of his research into the lives of the notorious Missouri outlaws, but what was desperately needed here was a co-author who knew how to tell a good story. One bank or train robbery sounds pretty much like all the others in Yeatman's plodding account, and I could not keep the brothers' numerous gang members straight -- the author does nothing to make them come alive as individuals. The appendices and bibliographical notes are rather awe-inspiring -- Yeatman has done his homework, and then some -- but getting through this book is a hard slog.

Product Description
Clap your hands...Now! Because you'd better believe the world is full of "Bad-Ass Faeries"! Toss out your childhood notions of faeries that are all goodness and light. No golden pixies clothed in gossamer, dancing on the wind, here to make the rainbows shine and the birds sing. These tales are of faeries on the raw edge, battle-worn and in black leather, with a glimmer of darkness in their eyes, if not their very hearts. From the meanest city streets to one dusty, disturbing saloon, on the wing or the back of a Harley, no matter where you look, they are headed your way, trailing attitude, bodies, and a dust devil of magic in their wake. Good or just plain rotten, you'll never look at faeries the same way again.
Customer Reviews:
Not your average Faerie stories.......2007-07-25
This Faerie book isn't your usual batch of `fairy tales'. This anthology is full of hard hitting, hard-core faeries that take no prisoners. None of the faeries in this book are the Disney `Tinkerbell' variation. The book itself if broken into the following five sections: Warrior Faeries, Outlaw Faeries, Wild Faeries, Street Faeries, and Faeries Noir. In this faerie book you will find faeries both noble and foul. There are cyborg faeries, native American faeries, assassin faeries, street smart faeries, and detective faeries. If you like faeries, or just like to read a good story or something a little different, then this book is for you.
The Truth of the Fae..........2007-07-17
A very nice collection of Farie Short Stories; trully encompasing not just the Whimsy of Faries, but also the depth of emotion and adventure in what all too often is seen as only children's worlds... These certainly do not stop at that; they take you to where you never thought Faries could go, but should have suspected they did.

Orignally published in 1882, just months after Jesse's deathg, Triplett's book has been a matter of controversy ever since. The present edition includes an introduction and editorial contributions by the distinguished historian of the West, Joseph Snell.
Customer Reviews:
Hype meets History.......2001-11-25
This book was written during the post-assasination hype following Jesse James' death. The author claims to have gotten much of his material from Jesse's wife and mother. They deny they contributed yet apparently did receive royalties. The author writes a good story and quotes many good first-hand sources, though make allowances for hype-driven inaccuracies. It's good reading.
