I've never read a romance before, but it's what I expected it to be - fluff!

If you enjoy the notion of virgin women who act tough on the outside but really just want to melt into the arms of the first man (with a farmer's tan, a bit of muscle, over 6 feet tall, and raise cattle) on the inside (so they can marry them and lose their virignity) then this might be a good read for you.

Or you can take that plot structure and put meat on it for your own amusement, since that is all Diana Palamer has done. And maybe you'll be able to do a better job of convincing your readers of the love that was supposed to have sprung from sudden, uninvited, sexual advances, and put a little more steam into the detail of the marriage consumation acts.

    3 out of 5 stars Ho hum..........2004-06-10

While I will not be as brutal as many of the reviewers here I, too, was disappointed with this book. All three stories lacked the charismatic heroes of her best works, and the heroines lacked spirit as well. They all fell in love in a matter of days, there was no emotional conflict as has been Palmer's hallmark and none of the steamy dialogue and sexual tension that has made me such a fan of many of her past works. I never thought I would have to force myself through a Diana Palmer book, but I did with this one. The best thing about this collection is that at least the heroes don't smoke like chimneys. It probably deserves fewer stars than I am giving, but as I devoted fan I cannot bring myself to do it. Suffice it to say, this one is going to the used bookstore, pronto.

5 out of 5 stars Three Wonderful Stories.......2001-11-27

I loved these stories. I have a copy that I have got to reread every six months.

3 out of 5 stars More of those cowboys!.......2000-10-06

While not quite up to the quality of some of the earlier Long Tall Texans, these guys weren't obnoxiously macho either. I certainly liked them much better then Justin and Calhoun.

I thought the story with Luke Craig and the camp for delinquent boys was touching and enjoyed the other two stories also. Not an outstandingly wonderful book--but a pleasant evening's read and I also bought the audio book and enjoyed it too.

1 out of 5 stars Well I was not happy with this one(not even worth a star).......1999-11-06

I like Diana Palmer's books and really enjoy finding the ones that have gone out of print so I was really excited when I went to the bookstore and found the latest intstallment of the Long Tall Texans. I got it home read it in about two minutes and hated it. It was a waste of my money and I hope that her new book Paper Rose brings her back to the great writing that all of her fans know she is capable of. Hoping for something better. P.S. If you are going to write a book don't make it so hurried, and I can buy lots of far fetched Romance stories, but having known a person for five minutes just does not seem long enough to decide to get married

This book is a refreshing look into the soul of a young black male. It's open, honest, and it leaves you wondering what he'll say or do next. I love the way the author shares intimate details of his personal experiences with the Lord. His writing stirred many emotions in me....laughter, crying, rejoicing, and praise as God seemed to take him by the hand and walk him through a journey called life. The author's love story really touched and captivated me. It's not often that we get a peek into the heart of a man. He is transparent and real, and I liked that. I recommend this to both men and women, as we can all benefit from the lessons he shares in this book.

            SLOW AND EASY

It's said that good things come to those who wait -- and that's certainly true for anyone who owns an electric crockery slow cooker.Working cooks and busy parents can relax. Most recipes just combine all the ingredients in the pot and let you simply walk away while dinner simmers throughout the day -- or overnight. Delicious family suppers become a snap with The Best Slow Cooker Cookbook Ever

Contemporary recipes include appetizers and snacks, soups and chowders, chilies and stews, chicken and meats, vegetables, side dishes, and condiments. Spanish Chicken with Olives, Spicy Pineapple pork Chili, and Apricot Glazed Chicken are just a few. There's a chapter that's "Mainly Meatless" and one that offers a sumptuous variety of desserts -- Chocolate Raspberry Strata, Berry Peach Cobbler,Lemon Cheesecake -- and hot drinks.

1 out of 5 stars Owned it five years, never found it useful.......2006-12-30

Considering the reviews I've read thus far, this cookbook is comprable to eggplant: either you love it or you hate it. I am an avid cookbook user, and adventurous in my tastes. It seems as though every time I went to this book for a recipe, I ended up somewhere else. The recipes are just weird. I think in the five years I owned it, I only used it twice. I really gave it a shot. I find the title wildly ironic considering I received another slow cooker cookbook for Christmas and already see dozens of recipes I want to try. Never the case with this volume.

            4 out of 5 stars Great Cookbook.......2005-02-07

I love this cookbook! I was ordering another because my mom took the first one. If you want standard bland American fare then this cookbook is not for you. The dishes here reflect a diverse ethnic range with a variety of flavors and spices. Our family particularly enjoyed the pozole and tomatillo pork stew which is a different take on my chile verde but just as well loved. I highly recommend this book to those wanting to expand their crockpot cooking from boring to exciting!

1 out of 5 stars My dog wouldn't touch the food from this book!.......2004-01-27

This cookbook was a real disappointment. We've tried 5 or 6 recipes and none of them were any good. My husband started calling my crockpot the crap-pot because the recipes from this book were so bad. Even our dog refused to eat the chili from this cookbook.

There are many other good cookbooks out there for crockpot recipes. Stay away from this one!!

4 out of 5 stars The one I turn to again and again!.......2003-11-23

I've had this cookbook for 6 1/2 years and it's stained, spotted and spattered! I use it so much! After reading some of the negative reviews I just had to add my two cents. Granted, some of the recipes are truly horrid, but you'll find bad eggs in any cookbook you buy. My favorites are the Red Bean Beef Chili and the Caribbean Chicken with Bananas. Practically everything I've made has turned out delicious. The author has excellent information on crock-pot cookery at the beginning (including how to add the best flavor to your food--always saute onions first! and why crockpots are safe). I had another crockpot cookbook but gave it away because I never used it.

1 out of 5 stars Worst Slow Cooker Cookbook Ever!.......2003-04-18

There are many much better slow cooker cookbooks out there...Mabel Hoffman's for example. I made two recipes from this book and both were barely edible. The combination of ingredients in most of the recipies are enough to prompt a gag reflex! ... Do yourself a favor and look into buying a different slow cooker book.

5 out of 5 stars This is the best book on barbed wire identification........1998-06-10

This is the best book on barbed wire identification that I have found. It is actually a catalog of line drawings of barbed wire patents. Because of this, there may be drawings of wire that may have never actually been produced. The drawings are very clear and are identified by name, patent number and patent date. There are no references to "Barbed Wire Bible" numbers that are commonly used to identify wire samples in collections. This is not a criticism, only an observation.

The best feature of this catalog is that it is arranged by classifying barbed wire by its attributes (e.g. 2 points, 4 points, metalic strip, etc.). This makes locating a wire sample very convenient.

This picture compilation of mostly european kitchens has little practical application for everyday cooks. I bought a used copy for only $2 and still feel I wasted my money.

Photos from different angles of a few kitchen never used to prepare a dinner for more than two people [if that].
Very, very little copy on the photos.
                      No layouts.
Somewhere in the past some ideas shown may have been good as Epcot Center displays but not even applicable to a single person's basic loft needs today.
Somebody got carried away with themselves when this book was published.

                        Book Description

Before the advent of music videos and CDs, album covers provided international ?audiences with a colorful invitation to the exotic, exciting world of Jamaican reggae. Stir ?It Up surveys this highly popular cover art, featuring rare and classic covers from the ?early ska era through the dancehall style of the '80s. While the cover art frequently ?reflects serious political and religious preoccupations, reggae's lighter ?side comes through in pictorial tributes to American Westerns, steamy dances, and ?smoke-wreathed spliffs. Interviews with the designers reveal the true stories behind Bob ?Marley's outlawed scratch 'n' sniff cover for Kaya, the mysterious fingerprints ?masquerading as Peter Tosh's on Wanted: Dread or Alive, plus many more fascinating ?anecdotes about some of reggae's most powerful covers. These classic reggae albums ?continue to sell as CD reissues and have had an amazing impact on musical styles from ?punk to rave to hip-hop. A celebration of the vibrant spirit of reggae music and style, Stir ?It Up will be cherished by fans ?of reggae and popular music everywhere.

5 out of 5 stars Great book - superb choice of sleeves & good background.......2003-10-31

This is a superb book with some great images of some of the best sleeves ever produced. It has a lot of background on the artwork and history behind the sleeves. Ignore the critics who seem to be expecting some kinda thesis on the subject or think this book is exploitation or sexist (!?), its a great book and you won't regret buying it (or even cutting out some of the pages and framing them!). Enjoy. Peace.

                        4 out of 5 stars A fine book.......2003-09-13

So people are complaing that there should be a better or more comprehensive book on this subject....??
I am sure there will be, but in the meantime I think that Chris Morrow has given true reggae freaks a nice insight.
Many fantastic album covers...so unique to the mighty sounds of reggae music.
If you think there should be something better out there then get writing.
                        This is a rare book.

                        5 out of 5 stars A vibrant visual record.......2001-06-21

"Stir It Up: Reggae Album Cover Art" is a fascinating collection of images. The art is accompanied by text written by Chris Morrow; Neville Garrick wrote the foreword.

The vibrant, full color illustrations reproduce reggae album cover art of the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. The cover art ranges from straightforward photographs of the Jamaican landscape and people to ambitious graphic designs. Many iconic images are featured: Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie (many times), the lion, the Star of David, marijuana plants, Che Guevera, and--of course--lots of dreadlocks. There are occasionally touches of satire and humor, such as a 1982 Prince Jammy cover spoofing the "Space Invaders" video game.

Artists whose covers are featured include Peter Tosh, Judy Mowatt, Black Uhuru, and the legendary Bob Marley and the Wailers. In his foreword, Neville Garrick pays tribute to Marley, noting that he "is now regarded as the voice of the oppressed, regardless of their race, religion, or language."

I myself know fairly little about Reggae music, but I was captivated by the striking images contained in this book. "Stir It Up" is a noteworthy achievement.

1 out of 5 stars Good idea, poorly executed..........2000-05-12

I can only concur with the previous reviewer. A cultural history of reggae album covers would be a wonderful idea, but this one is not it unfortunately. The text is patronising and only serves to further exoticise Jamaican artists, the choice of sleeves displays a fondness for lions but very little knowledge of the subject. Nothing on Studio One silk screen covers, no mention of Orville 'Bagga' Case, no discussion of the 'Zippo' lighter sleeve to Catch A Fire... I could go on and on, as Buju Banton would say.

                        1 out of 5 stars Hollow Shell.......2000-05-10

Here's a rich topic to investigate! But the treatment here is sketchy and only skims on the surface. A sociologist or cultural anthropologist who knows the terrain should have a good go at the whole idea.

                        Book Description

In an era dominated by the likes of W.C. Fields, the Marx Brothers, and Laurel and Hardy, no entertainer was more popular over a long period of time than Eddie Cantor. At various times he was the most celebrated performer on the vaudeville circuit, on Broadway, and in radio, television and film. Today many film historians ignore the contributions of Cantor. Unlike his contemporaries, he was never recognized for a comedic style. Instead he relied on his high energy performances to entertain audiences on their level. He tailored his career to give his fans what they wanted, and he was wildly successful at doing just that. This is a comprehensive look at the career of the consummate show businessman.

2 out of 5 stars Not much more than an outline.......2001-12-03

Eddie Cantor was long overdue for a thorough biography - and, for all its flaws, that biography (to date) is Herbert Goldman's book, not this one. I found this to be an extremely dull recitation of dates and events, and at that not as thorough as Goldman's own research. It gives little sense of the sort of performer that Cantor truly was, and none at all of the sort of person he was. Eddie Cantor was beloved by the public but those who knew him personally were of very mixed opinions about him, and a reader would never know that from this book. Goldman's book has a reach that exceeds its grasp, but it makes some effort to understand its subject. Koseluk's book, published before Goldman's, seems to have been written only to fill a gap in the bookshelf about Cantor. I would not discourage any Cantor fans from checking it out, but the best book about this important entertainer has not yet been published.

4 out of 5 stars Captures much of the exuberance of "Banjo Eyes".......1999-03-09

Although he relies mostly on published sources, Koseluk does manage to convey a sense of the position that Cantor held in American show business, and in American society generally, during the first half of this century. Although the book is organized somewhat artifically around Cantor's stage and movie vehicles, and gives a little less-than-deserved attention to Cantor's radio career, Koseluk has done a good job in conveying the importance of Cantor. Unfortunately -- and this is a failing of the two books that have been written about Cantor -- Koseluk fails to convey the poignancy and courage of Cantor's later years where, saddled by illness and personal loss (his wife and eldest daughter), Cantor "raged against the dying of the light" and managed to maintain an activity level which, while decreasing as the years went on, has been overlooked by most mini-biographers of Cantor, who simply report that he had a heart attack in 1952 and basically threw in the towel. For many reasons, though, I would recommend Koseluk's book over Goldman's.

                        5 out of 5 stars A Super Book.......1998-05-17

This is an excellent book about Eddie Cantor's career. It is well researched and written, and manages to be informative without being dull. I highly recommend it for all Cantor fans and for those interested in show business from vaudeville through television.
