Customer Reviews:
Worth Reading..........2007-06-14
I finished reading "Truth, Dare, or Promise" then I picked up this one and read it. I give it 5 stars because the writing was excellent and the story was very believable, but, for me, the pace was a little slower than that of "Truth, Dare, or Promise." Overall, I definitely recommend reading this. It's very descriptive, and there isn't much dialogue, but it's an overall very real and nice story.
Well-written.......2007-03-16
This book was superbly written, and the characters are interesting and well-developed. Everything was great until, the end of the book when it just seemed to lose steam. But there was so much before that to enjoy, that it's hardly a reason not to purchase this excellent novel.
Different- Sensual, Sweet and Heartbreaking.......2006-04-22
There are books like Stella Duffy's "Calendar Girl" that have abrupt, tragic endings, and then there are books like Sylvia Brownrigg's "Pages For You".
The book is not a happy one, and neither is the story. We, as the readers, know it's going end badly. "Happily ever after" is the thing of childhood fairy tales and falsehoods, this book has the harsh tragedies of life, but also the sweet romances one can only dream of.
Perhaps the book was more powerful for me- after all, I read most of it a state of exhaustion, and to escape another depressing book (ironically enough). But in any case, Ms. Brownrigg knows how to get her readers interested- and how to bait them. I for one almost forgot that the book did not have a happy ending, and did not want to remember in any case.
Also, not only can Ms. Brownrigg toy with emotions... but she can write. Metaphors and imagery are abundent in this novel, and they only serve to add to it.
Of course, no book is perfect... But this one is worth it.
Lyrical and poignant.......2006-03-01
I got this book at the campus library this morning on a whim. I started it at 10 and plowed through it, completely entranced and finished by 12.
While it is a romance and a bit of a "beach read" It is touching and brings back memories for the reader as well. The characters are loveable and intriguing and the language is just beautiful- painting pictures of the scenes in your mind.
I highly recommend it. It is one of those books that I cluttered with post it notes on the passages that I want to put down and quote.
Wonderful.......2005-12-31
This is the wonderful love story of Flannery and Anne - I read this book in 2 days. It's very touching and real. I highly recommend it to anyone.

Book Description
Trigun Maximum Volume 3 is intensity embodied - a front to back fight! Vash the Stampede and the mysterious Wolfwood versus the terribly resilient Gray the Ninelives and one of Yasuhiro Nightow's most curious villains, the completely frightening puppet master, Leonoff. The Gung-Ho Guns get harder and harder to beat as the philosophical tension between our two heroes grows daily. The Trigun Max manga includes many aspects and characters from the television show but places them in different situations at different times giving the reader a much more detailed and dramatic idea of who these terrible enemies really are and the rough challenges Vash faces every day.
Customer Reviews:
Bloody, but good. .......2004-11-22
This third installment of Trigun Maximum is a bit bloodier than the rest of the series so far, but it's very good. The first five chapters are pretty much non-stop action in which Vash is faced off against Emilio, the puppetmaster, and Wolfwood is facing the horrific Grey the ninelives. Wolfwood's challenge is that he's facing a seemingly unstoppable juggernaut (who can somehow manage to move his arm even after it's no longer connected to his body). Vash is forced to half heartedly fight against the puppetmaster while trying to avoid taking human life in the process. A difficult prospect considering Knives' henchmen know all about Vash's love of humanity.
The philosophical tension between Wolfwood and Vash continues to grow. In the last chapter Wolfwood learns more about Vash's past. We are also introduced to some of Vash's old aquaintences.
The art work is fantastic. The charachters, addicting. Nightow has managed to create an interesting mix of philosophy, action, and plain fun into his series. It's hard to read Trigun without forming a sort of attachment to Vash and his friends. At the same time it's even easy to sympathise with Knives, knowing all of our human failings (and knowing a little more of the brothers history). I can't wait for volume 4.
From An Avid Collector.......2004-11-09
Well, I just got volume three yesterday and finished it in a little over an hour. It's that addicting!! I love the new Trigun Manga from Dark Horse, and I perfer it over the Anime now that I'm hooked. The characters are more fleshed out, others appear at different times, and some are completely different.
Let us take this volume for example. In the Anime, Grey the Ninelives was an android. Not so in the Manga, for he is flesh and blood with a name that makes far more sense this time (after one version of him dies, another sprouts out of his body). Also, there is more to the mysterious Leonoff the Puppetmaster, a character that Vash seems to have met in the past. I won't give away too much more, but it was very interesting to read this, IMO, better take on the series.
I've heard people talk about how Nightow's art can be somewhat sketchy, and while I see where they are coming from, I still don't understand the complaints. In the heat of action, Nightow is all about detail; it's only when he switches to a more light-hearted/comical scene that details vanish. But seriously, if you look at the art from other Mangaka like Kubotite, they do the exact same thing. It's a style in Japan, deal with it.
As I said earlier, the story for Maximum is far better to me than that of the Anime. While I do like the Anime, there are so many filler episodes that it can become boring after a while. I've even fallen asleep during a couple. Plus, with Cartoon Network almost always playing Trigun, there really isn't a huge reason to me to buy the DVD boxset, considering it's $150. I believe Maximum ends at volume 6, so in all I'll have spentabout $80 on that, so for my money, the Manga is the cheaper and more accessible way to relive a favored franchise. That, and you can read them first in the stores.
Book Description
This study weaves various passages from "A Course in Miracles" into a comprehensive theory of time. In three parts, the book first explains the holographic though illusory nature of time. It next discusses the plan of the Atonement, the role of the miracle and forgiveness, and the time collapse they foster. The third part discusses the end of time, and includes the Course's concepts of the real world, the Second Coming, the Last Judgment, and finally God's last step.
Customer Reviews:
Life is but a dream.......2007-08-29
I feel that this is an excellent book...really clarifies about the linear concept of time...Being stuck in a body, this was the most difficult concept for me to grasp.
Excellent
deep thought.......2006-11-10
This is a book that you really must be open minded because you can be lost quick. I find myself havening to re-read parts to get the points. Could be ADHD but it is very interesting but not a book that can be a over nighter. A very good read though. A Disappearance of the Universe is great also plus a little easier to follow.
The Mystery of Time Revealed.......2006-11-10
Any students of ACIM or any spiritual path will greatly benefit from the explanations provided by Dr. Wapnick on this subject of time. In the process, many other "untruths" are also clearly revealed. A comprehensive read, and well worth some of the mind twisters along the way.
Fantastic!.......2003-02-15
The concept of time as illusion is hard to grasp. This book does a remarkable job of explaining the Course in Miracles stance on this subject. Just incredible!

The traditional food products of Italy are world treasures. From aged balsamic vinegar to creamy buffalo-milk mozzarella, from Parmigiano-Reggiano to mellow extra-virgin olive oil, these classic ingredients, lovingly crafted for centuries, form the backbone of a great cuisine. Pamela Sheldon Johns's Italian Food Artisans introduces readers to the men and women who, despite the press of modern industrialization, make these edible wonders today, while offering 50 simple but delicious recipes that use them. Readers interested in Italian food culture and those seeking accessible recipes for authentic Italian dishes will want this book.
Arranged by general topics such as condiments, breads, rice, and pasta, the book profiles the artisans in words and evocative color photos; recipes follow. We meet, for example, the Mori family of Tuscany, whose farm factory has produced extra-virgin olive oil for over two centuries. Recipes include the enticing Penne Santo, a cabbage, pancetta, and olive oil-topped bread, and Torta di Capezzana, a delicious olive oil cake, among others. We journey also to the tiny village of Piantella in Abruzzo, among other places, where Gianluigi Peduzzi oversees the pasta-making business started by his great-grandfather; recipes include Orechiette with Clams and Broccoli Rabe, and Shells Stuffed with Spinach and Ricotta in Asparagus Sauce. We also encounter makers of chestnut flower honey, chocolate, vin santo, and wild boar prosciutto, among other ingredients, and are given recipes for their use. A list of resources for finding the products both here and in Italy concludes the book, which, in its evocation of venerable traditions still practiced, is also heartening. It's good to know the modern world, so geared to homogenization, still contains them. --Arthur Boehm

The people who keep authentic Italian foods alive.......2003-04-19
Although there are more than 50 authentic recipes in this lovely book, it is far more than a collection of Italian recipes. Instead, the author sets out to visit the small villages and town in Italy in an attempt to find the food artists who keep culinary traditions alive. I loved reating about such craftsmen as the ones who make Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, Italian chocolate and other delicacies. An extra bonus- a list of restaurants and Culinary Guides to Italy - for those who wish to meet the people described in the book or taste the foods themselves.
Italian Food Artisans.......2000-07-28
This is a really interesting book. It tells you the traditional way such things as olive oil, balsamic vinegar and mozzarella cheese are made. It gives you a sense of the history of these foods in Italy, makes you appreciate them all the more and, makes you feel that much more part of the culture. One interesting fact: the vinegar we all think of as Balsamic is a pale version. The real traditional kind is thick as molasses and used a drop at a time on meat and other things. A very compelling and beautiful book!
Book Description
The single most useful book you can own to learn the essentials of coin grading, Photograde was designated in 1972 as an Official Grading Guide by the American Numismatic Association. Photograde is:
--designed for beginner and advanced graders alike
--illustrates every regular issue U.S. coin type from 1793 to date
--contains more than 1000 coin photographs, many enlarged to show details. Both obverse and reverse pictures of every grade for every coin listed
--uses easy-to-understand terms and grading descriptions
--includes special chapters on counterfeits and Colonial coins, and how to grade, clean, and store coins
Customer Reviews:
generally good & helpful.......2005-09-14
rather weak when you deal with uncirculated coins. very
difficult area of grading.
Dissapointing pictures & book.......2004-10-19
Almost useless for AU and MS grade coins. Very, very small and poor quality b/w pictures of coins. Dissapointing as it could have been great if high resolution pictures were used and enlarged. Also, not including pictures of MS60-67 grades truely limits this book.
Great book.......2004-01-03
It is very helpful if all that you have to go off of is the Guide Book of United States Coins 2003: The Official Red Book, And I dont know what Wayne Lukert was thinking but they are real photographs. Gives a nice description of coins and a black and white photograph of every grade. also If you dont have any books on cleaning care and other helpful topics it has page after page about that stuff too.
Good for the beginner.......2003-05-23
If your a beginner at coin collecting this may be okay for you.
This book has hard to view pictures ( not photographs ) of the coins being used as samples. This alone can confuse the beginner,as imperfections appear on the pictures and may be mistaken for the actual coin. The written descriptions and arrows point to too specific areas. The areas to be scrutinized are much broader than the head of the arrow. A better book for the beginner is HOW TO GRADE U.S. COINS by James L. Halperin.
It uses a color code system that is much easier to follow and the pictures have much better detail. Also type coins for newer coins are NOT dicussed.
Spend coins on this, but find it in F-12 to save money........2003-02-12
This book is exxentially an extended version of the coin conditions/states table that you'll commonly find in coin magazines. This book is much, much more complete and comprehensive as it covers all U.S. coins in circulation (no commemoratives) and has photos and key points of wear for each grade from About Good to About Uncirculated. This edition also has interesting chapters concerning the cleaning of coins and artificial toning. This reference is a great help to inexperienced collectors of USA coins who are building eclectic collections. Don't feel that you need to buy this book new, the grading information is static and, as you will learn much from this book in a short time, it won't be used much thus used copies are likely to be in excellent condition. Four stars because, as the young reviewer below states, color photos are sorely missed in this book.

Customer Reviews:
These are great for stencil borders.......2001-04-21
For anyone who hasn't used "Art Deco" stencils. This book will have many styles for you to see, and chose. The cover will give you an idea of what kind of stencils they mostly have. The sizes are from 8" (in) to 2" (In.) These are copyright free. But they have other info. on what you can, can't do.
If you where looking for more "flowers" I would try "Art Nouveau Cut & Use Stencils" those are great stecils too, that are also copyright free.
Art Deco Cut & Use Stencils.......2000-03-29
This is a great source book for Art Deco designs. It contains 51 stencil motifs to use directly or to modify if you wish. It suggests some color combinations on the book's jacket for some Art Deco inspiration. The stencils are printed on heavy grade stencil paper. However, the stencils themselves are in black and white to enable you to cut them out easily.
The author gives concise instructions for the use and maintenance of the stencils.
I have searched high and low for Art Deco designs and this book finally delivered the designs I needed.

Art Nouveau Cut & Use Stencils.......2000-05-25
This book has some nice, simple patterns, including those with floral, animal, and geometric designs. They are printed on one side in black on a medium weight, cream colored cardstock. For actually use of these "stencil patterns," I would recommend copying or tracing onto a more durable plastic made for stenciling. Also, some of the stencils patterns are repeated in different sizes throughout the book (they range from 1 1/2 inches up to a full page). All in all, there are some nice designs, and there is a two-page introduction that details what you need to stencil. I think this is good book for a beginner, but too simple for an artist.

Book Description
The result of nearly 15 years of research, this comprehensive analysis of Boris Karloff's life and career, incorporates criticism, in-depth production information, discussion of major cinematic themes and characters, and a look at the historical periods and events depicted in the films. Extensive biographical and career information is dovetailed with a discussion of the classic Hollywood era in order to examine Karloff's overall contribution to American cinema.
Each of Karloff's horror films is examined at length, as well as his contributions to other media. Over 100 posters, portraits, film scenes and candid photos illustrate the text, and numerous contemporaries (Evelyn Karloff, Laurence Olivier, Henry Brandon, Ian Wolfe, Zita Johann, others) are quoted throughout.
Customer Reviews:
Thorough look at Karloff's best work!.......2004-08-06
This is the first of Nollen's books that I read--a comprehensive discussion of the best work of the great Boris Karloff, including all his major "terror films." Written over two decades, with the participation of Karloff's widow and many colleagues, this is the best scholarly critique of Karloff's films, plus an excellent general biography. For THE BEST biography of Karloff, see Nollen's second Karloff book, BORIS KARLOFF: A GENTLEMAN'S LIFE, soon to be reprinted by Luminary Press. Karloff and classic film films, get both Nollen books--THIS ONE is the best one on the films, and GENTLEMAN'S LIFE is the best on the life + great stuff on the films. This book is massive, has many great and rare photos from the author's collection, and is beautifully bound. McFarland books are a bit expensive, but this one is worth every penny.
