Set in Renaissance Italy, this classic of American popular fiction is the story of Andrea Orsini, a peasant boy who rises to perform delicate political, military, and romantic missions for Cesare Borgia.
Customer Reviews:
Prince of Foxes.......2006-07-09
Exceptional novel written by a master of the historical-epic genre. The book follows the life and loves of Andrea Orsini, an erstwhile impoverished Italian nobleman, as he strives to find his destiny in the byzantine politics of Renaissance Italy. The Prince of Foxes was one of several Rafael Sabatini novels made into major motion pictures -- all starring Tyrone Power.
A five star adventure epic!.......2006-06-20
A master of deception and disguise, Andea Orsini plays his hand well, rising from the place of a simple peasant blacksmith, first to General and then to Lord! He thwarts the venemous Ceasar Borgia on every turn, befriends a man with the look of Judas, and serves as the protector of a true lady - all the while fighting his own physical and spiritual battles and growing in character along the way.
A clever and decidedly well written story of both heroic deeds and great deceptions, true love and the pride of men. You won't be wasting your time on this book, it's five-star material.
Wonderful!.......2006-03-21
I heartily agree with other readers who have given Prince of Foxes 5 stars. This novel is fast-paced, informative, believeable, beautifully written and a fantastic blend of history and fiction. Mr. Shellabarger manages to educate the reader about the warring Italian city states of the period while holding their attention with a wholly credible depiction of people and places of the time. The characters in these pages are not the stick figure cartoons of so many bodice-rippers, but display actual psychological development and manage to engage the reader into caring about them - a rare occurrence in much of what passes these days as historical fiction. Once I got past about the first two chapters, I couldn't put this one down. There are no contrived coincidences to spoil the plot development, none of the artificial saving of the day that too often destroys believability. This has to rate as one of the most enjoyable reads I have had in a long time, not to mention, has captured my attention to the extent that I now want to learn more about the Borgias and the times they lived in. Highly recommended. (As an aside, I was disappointed to find that the Tyrone Power/ Orson Welles Hollywood film based on the book is not available on any of the DVD sites I checked. Maybe just as welll, as my own mental images of the characters remain unspoiled.)
A Rivetting Classic fro the 40s..........2005-09-16
Set in Renaissance Italy, this classic of American popular fiction is the story of Andrea Orsini, a peasant boy who rises to perform delicate political, military, and romantic missions for Cesare Borgia. Schellabarger tells a sly, cunning story filled with double dealing, plots, seductions, political overthrow, murder, and a cold blooded assassin that still follows a code of honor... what's not to like?
Finally Back in Print!!.......2004-09-22
Woo-hoo! After years of hoarding the two old library-discard copies of Prince of Foxes my grandmother gave me (one to read, one apparently to keep locked up in case something horrible happened to copy number one), it's finally available again! Now I can recommend with impunity...
Wonderful book, no matter your interests. Now all we have to do is get Lord Vanity back into print.

These stories are a pleasure to read. You'll smell the flowers and the sea while you take in every single word.
A Pleasure.........2007-03-26
I have never read anything that Mrs.Pilcher wrote that I have not enjoyed.
I recommend all her works to those who love excellent storytelling.
A great way to spend a rainy weekend........1998-03-21
Although not as in-depth as her bigger, later books, these three offerings of Pilcher's offer the same warmth and sense of being there. You can smell the flowers and the sea and the burning peat and feel the damp climate without ever growing cold.

Shame on you.......2003-11-06
Well, count me among those who say Asprin didn't have anything to do with Phule me Twice, or book three. I suffered through them though, they had a moment or two, but it was few and far between. Not that Heck isn't a decent writer, but he has almost no sense of humor.
Summary
Book three, this fool and his money were easily parted.
Shame on me.
Book four, fooled me twice.
Shame on you.
Lighthearted, thoroughly enjoyable science fiction adventure.......2002-09-08
Phule Me Twice is the latest lighthearted, thoroughly enjoyable science fiction adventure from Robert Asprin. Fourth in the Phule series, about a Legion captain and his unlikely crew of interplanetary rejects, Phule Me Twice follows the questionable Legionnaires as they are called to help a dinosaur-like ally race against a mysterious hidden invader. But Captain Phule's own superior officer has a grudge against him, and plans to wreak havoc in the most backhanded and scheming manner possible - by sending in an incompetant with both the ability and authority to royally foul things up! A loopy and engaging ride featuring quixotic personalities, double-take situations, and one deceptively resourceful android. Also very highly recommended are the previous Phule adventures: Phule's Company, Phule's Paradise, and A Phule And His Money.
Phuled again.......2001-09-14
Interplanetary high space opera miltaristic romp. Fans of the earlier book's will definetly enjoy this book, though it is not nearly as good as the first one which is still my favorite. however, this book does stand alone on its own, so anyone new to the series can pick it up and still have a enjoyable read.

something tells me that robert asprin isn't writing these books any more; for one thing, escrima went from being a no-nonsense chef with a minor accent to a latino/jamaican "homeboy" in book 3. the gambolt names are just preposterous, and not meaning to nitpick: is tusk a volton or a voltron? he's referred to as both.

The novena (from novem, Latin for "nine") is a prayer for a blessing, repeated nine times a day for nine days in a row, usually offered to a saint. "Generally, the saints are invoked for more material or health-related problems while the angels are invoked for more universal problems or to change a life path. The madonna can be invoked for anything but is most effective for those in distress of the soul, the guilt-ridden, and those troubled by family discord. The novenas directed toward God himself are the most spiritual and intense," write Barbara Calamari and Sandra DiPasqua in the introduction to their beautiful new book, Novena: The Power of Prayer.
Illustrated with ravishing color portraits of saints, angels, and the madonna, each novena included in this book is complemented by a short history of the accompanying figure, related dates on the liturgical calendar, and stories about believers who have prayed these prayers. Even if you're not planning to pray a novena, this book is an entertaining and useful reference to one of the most popular prayer traditions in Catholicism. You'll learn, for instance, that St. Paul is the patron saint of both snake bite and journalists. Wonder if there's any connection. --Michael Joseph Gross
Book Description
Today's spirituality movement stresses the holistic value and the power of prayer. But one special, long-established form of intention and affirmation has been overlooked: the novena. Perennially popular in the Catholic Church, a novena is a nine-day period of prayer for a particular grace or intention, often offered as a supplication to a saint with expertise in a particular area. Novena, a volume that will enchant the eye and touch the soul, traces its history and brings together thirty-six of the best-known novenas. Each is accompanied by a luminous image of its affiliated saint--fiercely beautiful and intensely human--adapted, with a contemporary air, from a traditional prayer card; by a brief discussion of the saint's life and particular specialty; and by instructions on when, and why, to use the novena. Novena is divided into four sections: novenas to the saints, the angels, the madonna (each revealing a different aspect of her personality), and the Divinity. An appendix cross-references specific concerns with appropriate novenas: We learn how the saints themselves transcended such problems as a turbulent youth, a difficult marriage, or abuse. The ideal gift for Easter and Mother's Day, this jewel of a book has year-round bestselling potential.
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful Inside and Out and Informative.......2005-09-24
Authors Barbara Calamari and Sandra DiPasqua give readers another invaluable resource for saintly intercession, prayer and personal edification with The Novena Book: The Power of Prayer (Penguin Studio, hardcover, 176 pages). As with the previous Calamari/DiPasqua books I've reviewed, The Novena Book combines informative and readable text with stunningly beautifully illustrations in a manner few other manuscripts can match. Their works grace my living room both because they are a treat to the eyes of my visitors and because I turn to them frequently for my own spiritual and educational formation.
In The Novena Book: The Power of Prayer Calamari and DiPasqua take a comprehensive look at the concept of Novenas. The introduction highlights the powerful nature of this prayer format. At the heart of the book is a lengthy series of chapters on Saints, Angels, the Madonna, and the Divinity. Each section on the saints provides a brief biographical or informative statement, an illustration, and a Novena. Rounding out the volume are additional prayer resources and a helpful topical index. The book features Novenas to several well known saints and to a few who make become your new favorites. I'm looking forward to sharing Novenas with my sons as we anticipate the rapid approach of the holiday season. The Novena Book: The Power of Prayer is the type of book you'll want to give as a gift, but be sure to purchase a copy of this treasure for your own spiritual library.
Definitely a Keeper!.......2004-04-29
I've been an Amazon customer for years and have never felt compelled to write a review until now. I bought the book to learn more about St. Jude's novena and found myself completely immersed in reading all of the other saints' biographies. It is beautifully illustrated, well written and well organized. A must have for every library.
Beautifully done. A prayer book and coffe table book in one!.......2003-10-29
The authors have done a wonderful job taking the mystery out of Novenas and prayers. This book would make a wonderful gift for those searching for spirituality. The prayers work, I know this from personal experience. I've purchase several copies to give as gifts this coming Christmas.
Beautifully done.......2002-04-12
I recommend this to anyone who wants to learn more about the saints lives or the different visions of Mary that have appeared, as well as a way to pray to them. I just purchased this and can't put it down. The prayers are wonderful.
GREAT!!!.......2002-03-21
This book is really great! I myself am a Catholic and there are many holy cards with very beautiful pictures and maybe prayers on the back...I loved those, and this book is exactly like those cards, really beautiful drawings and prayers but with something more!
The authors did a great job. They did not simply collect these powerful prayers and compile them in this book. They wrote very well on each of saints, angels, each of the different faces of the Madonna and the Divine.
Besides the prayers the stories are great and inspirational too. I think every Catholic should have this and even if you're not a Catholic it's great too, inspirational and provides some comfort for those in grief too, especially The Mother of Sorrows. As the authors wrote(or typed): "The saints are there to help you."--From the introduction.

Customer Reviews:
Merci beaucoup!!.......2007-06-25
MERCI BEAUCOUP to all the reviewers and to the two magazine reviews that highly recommended this wonderful book!! I have been so enchanted with everything about it, albeit that being a Francophile hasn't hurt. It had been one of the recommendations from Amazon, and after being intrigued by a little peek into its content, the reviewers made my decision easy. Voila......how much fun it is!
It's not a large book, almost pocket size in fact. And it's not a recipe-only book either, though it has enough recipes within to add to the already interesting musings of the relationship between the French and chocolate.
Photographs of French life, French patisseries and chocolatiers, along with the written musings (both in French with most given their English translation) of those who have gone before, or who are here now, dot the chapters of this incredible guide to all that is worthy of French chocolate. And lest you not be particularly proficient in French, there are various pages of assistance with understanding French accent marks, and, adverbs of quantity (though, is there such an error as wanting too much chocolate?). There is also a lovely section within the end of the book that gives you an English translation of the French vocabulary of ingredients, expressions, verbs, and general chocolate terms. Recipe contributors, recipe ingredient resources (from all over the world) help to round out your veritable tour of the chocolate delights of France.
As you begin your perusing of this guide, you are given hotels, bistros, and other assorted places that serve various chocolate delights. An interesting aspect of these mentions, is that they include places other than France, that pay homage to chocolate, such a Switzerland and the creations made there, or Chicago, and its shops and schools devoted to the art of being a chocolatier, as well as San Francisco, New Orleans, Louisiana, Connecticut, and Tokyo to name a few.
The sections of this book are divided into:
Recipe Index
Foreward
Introduction
History of France and Chocolate
Recipes
Vocabulary
Resources
The book also goes into how chocolate has tranferred itself into movies such as "Chocolate" starring Julia Ormand and Johnny Depp. Or how it has made its way into the fashion industry.........ever seen a chocolate dress?
A chocolate dress you say? Well, they may not give you the recipe for that, but they will give you the following jewels:
Chocolate Ganache
Pralines
Chocolate Sauce
Chocolate Tartlet with Coffee Cream
Warm Chocolate Puddings with Pistachio Cream and Pears

I would also like to mention The "L'alliance Francaise" which is given quite a good mention in the "Let Them Eat Chocolate" section of this book. L'alliance Francaise is a organization that Francophiles can join that celebrates the exquisite culture of France by giving French language classes, tours, festival, cooking classes, etc. with chapters located all over the United States as well as other places in our world. This particular section was written by one of the instructors at the Alliance in Connecticut. For me, this information alone was worth the price of the book.
OK then............see what everyone was talking about? Wonderful, isn't it? As I said previously, this is not a recipe book of sorts, but a multifaceted journey into all that weaves itself into the affair of France and sinful, decadent, addictive chocolate.
A chocolate adventure.......2003-11-18
I received this book as a gift and was very pleasantly surprised with the book. I loved how the author weaved the culture and history of chocolate of the French with some amazing recipes from around the world. I also enjoyed the vocabulary, which has allowed me to impress my friends with my new knowledge of the nuances of chocolate. If you know someone who is a chocolate fan, this book is for him or her.
The world through chocolate.......2003-11-18
This is truly a unique publication. Not only is it well laid out but also ties in multiple disciplines in a single book, including history, culture and cooking. The recipes are easy and don't require you to clutter you kitchen with ingredients. I would highly recommend this book. For you local San Franciscans I would combine another publication by Crump - The Cafes Of San Francisco with this one and it would make a great gift - the holidays are around the corner!!
The Perfect Gift.......2003-11-17
If you have friends who truly love chocolate...this book is perfect. We presented Chocolate French twice and it was will received on both occasions. Chocolate French is great if you are looking for that unique gift for the holidays.
For dedicated chocolate lovers everywhere!.......2003-11-15

Customer Reviews:
Great history book.......2006-05-20
The definitive resource for GMC trucks, at this time, anyway. Though the book is slim, the authors managed to pack quite a large amount of information and photos in it. All sorts of GMC trucks are covered: light to heavy, old to new, military to civilian. And it doesn't focus only on the trucks; even key personnel changes within GMC are detailed. My only two gripes with the book are, yes, the number of misidentified pictures, and the number of factory photos--more contemporary photos would be nice! However, those minor gripes hardly detract from this excellent book. Overall, a most fascinating read!
I enjoyed it!.......2003-02-08
Lots of nice factory pictures, and quite a bit of good story about what was going on behind the scenes at G.M. Truck and Coach. The book's strong point is its coverage of the 1960's, when G.M.C. produced a staggering number of different models. I would recommend it, particularly as there isn't any other titles in print devoted exclusively to G.M.C..
Pretty Pictures.......2002-04-12
A number of the truck photos are incorrectly identified. Noticeably in the 1940's and 1950's Being able to identify correct years and models would seem basic to a truck history book. These errors leave the rest of the "Official History" suspect. If you are looking for a pretty coffee table book then this is it. If you are looking for GMC history I would not recommend this book.

Book Description
Hip Hotels: City was the very first book to address a whole new travel phenomenon: hotels of such sheer style and individuality that they have redefined the travel experience. Through innovative architecture, outstanding design, and world-class cuisine, Hip Hotels have become destinations in their own right. But the book did not just identify a trend, it has led it. This revised edition reflects that, introducing ten stunning new hotels. They include Blakes in Amsterdam, Anouska Hempel's latest venture, which brings her Asian-inflected minimalism to a superb piece of Dutch Golden Age architecture. In London there is One Aldwych, one of the finest examples of the new contemporary luxury that is fast turning the traditional grand hotel into a museum piece. The Establishment in the heart of Sydney takes the hotel-as-destination concept to a new level: besides being a superb hotel, it houses the city's hottest bar, restaurant, nightclub, and sushi bar, all in one incredibly radical architectural conversion. And there are new destinations: Stockholm, Marrakesh, and Delhi, whose recently opened Manor Hotel is a total surprisea fine example of fifties modern architecture that was originally built as a hunting lodge. The biggest names, the hippest locations, and above all the most stylish hotels in the world: with this new revised edition, Hip Hotels: City remains the definitive guide. 600 illustrations, 500 in color.

Hip Hotels: City.......2006-07-13
Hip Hotels is a "Must have" for anyone travelling the world. Why stay in boring and predictable chain hotels when yo can go somewhere much more exciting for often no extra cost. Even the most discerning traveller will find a hotel in one of these "Hip Hotel" books and be hooked forever. Try it and see - you will nt be disappointed.
Excellent guide to cool hotels, or lovely coffee table book.......2004-11-18
This book has lovely photographs and useful descriptions of some very trendy hotels all over the world.
I have found the book a very useful guide for finding cool hotels to stay in - it can be so hard to find a really good hotel and this book really helps in that regard.
Of course, you need not use it as a guide and there are many cities in this book that I have yet to visit - the pictures are lovely and you can enjoy the book as a visual feast whether you are looking for a place to stay or not.
beautiful hotels.......2002-06-19
The book Hip Hotels by Herbert Ypma is the second edition of the first book of his series about beautiful hotels in the world. In Hip Hotels, he shows trendy design hotels in major cities such as New York, London, Paris, Los Angeles, etc. Every hotel is featured with an introductory text as well as many larger and smaller pictures, so you can directly see what to expect. The book is a nice coffee table book and is enjoyable to read even if you do not intend to make a journey right now but just want to see which hotel could potentially tempt you.
nice, but not totally up-to-date.......2000-02-14
im a hotel snob and do tons of travel, sometimes simply to go to a city for the hotel. while the book has some very useful and practical information, the hotel business changes as fast as the net. some very fine, very hip hotels have been missed. there should be, maybe a next edition, bigger sections or more books per city, assuming the city or region has enough. in any event, the pictures are great, the text is simple to follow and pretty accurate as to tyhe hotel and it's vibe. i'd give it 4.5 stars if it had more hotels.
The first great book about hotels - Highly recommended.......1999-05-07
Just bought the book, enjoyed the text and of course the pictures. Nothing like it on the market I can't wait for Hip Hotel Escape next Autumn

When I purchased this item, I was not informed that there was a new edition of the book, I would have preferred to buy the latest ...
Great Project-Based Learning Resource.......2007-02-07
this is the core syllabus for a class i'm taking. we complete the assignments that are in the book. the projects are useful and clearly explained and comes with all files on a cd.

i'm happy with it.
Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach........2006-12-17
This takes the basic information that can be found in the manual or anywhere on the 'net and repackages it as yet another How-to computer book.
Unfortunately, as mentioned above, it is full of errors and examples that make you cringe, both in taste and demonstrating the author doesn't really know how to do it.
When you are reading how to correct a photo in Photoshop, nothing puts you off more than that the example shown is badly corrected. The same goes for all the aesthetically challenged examples and the book itself.
How difficult is it to design and layout an attractive, easily navigated and organised book on graphic design if you are in fact a capable designer?
Unless ofcourse you are not.
good pick.......2006-03-09
the book is new, and cost only 31 dollar compare to the local bookstore where cost 53 dollar.
A good choice for use in a classroom setting.......2006-02-28
I found this book to be very useful in the introduction to digital graphics I teach at a community college. Because we have to go over OS X, Photoshop, Illustrator and QuarkXpress in one semester, time is limited for each of these software programs. However, by choosing the tutorials in the book that address specific techniques needed to complete the semester projects, I can cover a lot of ground in a relatively short time. This procedure worked especially well in the Photoshop chapters.

I am a newbie to digital design and this book covers everything, from color management to printing processes to how to price your work and manage work flow.
A MUST for any beginner...this is the best reference I have come across by far.
Excellent resource.......2005-05-31
This is the best resource book I have ever seen about all aspects of digital design. It covers computer basics then has sections on print and web. Descriptions are clear, easy to understand, beautifully illustrated and absolutely up to date. This is a must-have book for teachers.
A Good Reference.......2005-03-07
This is something a new graphic/web designer will refer to, if he/she needs to know about certain terms used in the business or about the tools that he/she may need to get his/her job done. It doesn't go into details but provides enough information to go further. Excellent layout, design and printing.
Book Description
"Bernard Gordon was the writer behind some of my favorite movies (but I never knew it). Now, he tells his most riveting story--that of his own colorful career. . . . Fascinating!" --Joe Dante, director "As a blacklisted screenwriter, Bernard Gordon was never completely silenced, but it is still thrilling to hear him have his say in a memoir of Hollywood's darkest era. . . . Gordon's story is a testament to the everlasting vitality of creativity in the face of scare tactics and coercion." --Kirkus Reviews "Gordon's book is . . . a remarkable story of how he not only survived, but lived a high life in Europe as a much-in-demand writer--although denied recognition [for] his craft--until 50 years later by both [writers'] guilds and the Academy." --Variety "His portraits of the brilliant Philip Yordan and Samuel Bronston, the producer-financier duo that virtually created the 'runaway' (offshore) production game, are unforgettable, as are his accounts of making, among a dozen other films, 55 Days at Peking, The Thin Red Line, Krakatoa East of Java, Day of the Triffids, Earth vs. The Flying Saucers and Horror Express. . . . His adventures as a writer and producer sparkle in this generous, well-illustrated account." --Foreword "A born storyteller, [Gordon] writes with warmth and humor, and there's an emotional edge to his razor-sharp recall." --Publishers Weekly The Hollywood blacklist, which began in the late 1940s and ran well into the 1960s, ended or curtailed the careers of hundreds of people accused of having ties to the Communist Party. Bernard Gordon was one of them. In this highly readable memoir, he tells a engrossing insider's story of what it was like to be blacklisted and how he and others continued to work uncredited behind the scenes, writing and producing many box office hits of the era. Gordon describes how the blacklist cut short his screenwriting career in Hollywood and forced him to work in Europe. Ironically, though, his is a success story that includes the films El Cid, 55 Days at Peking, The Thin Red Line, Krakatoa East of Java, Day of the Triffids, Earth vs. the Flying Saucers, Horror Express, and many others. He recounts the making of many movies for which he was the writer and/or producer, with wonderful anecdotes about stars such as Charlton Heston, David Niven, Sophia Loren, Ava Gardner, and James Mason; directors Nicholas Ray, Frank Capra, and Anthony Mann; and the producer-studio head team of Philip Yordan and Samuel Bronston.

How an avowed communist dealt with the Blacklist.......2000-06-13
I read this book to understand more about communism in America mid-century, how America could castigate some citizens and how some citizens could "worship" another country's ideals while living here. I was pleased and somewhat let down.
The book has two distinct parts but needs a third. First, he quickly explains why he was a member of the communist party. I still believe this fascination was a liberal viewpoint which was carried to an extreme given the recent depression. This section discussing life in Hollywood under fear of subpeona was very interesting and compelling as written from a struggling screenwriter.
Section 2 then deals with his life as a screenwriter working mainly in Spain and Paris. This section really didn't deal with the politics of the time but instead is a personal memoir into his life in the business. I learned a lot of the movie business from a different perspective but actually found this part to run a little long. His description of his side trips in Europe was also very interesting.
There are two important pieces I felt were left out. A more in-depth discussion of his involvement with communism and his current feelings. When he came back to America he talks of how pleasing the return was but he never closes the chapter on what his current feelings are about communism. I think anyone that condemns this man's thoughts without listening are short-sighted. But I also think that he should more fully explain his thoughts, how they have developed and what his thinking is now since that was the premise for the book.
The final item left out of the book were the last 20? years of his life. Since I invested this much time reading about him, at least he could have given a short description of what he has been doing once he left the business. What's happened in the last few years. He mentions what his daughter is doing. What about him? He does mention his wife dying and I was very touched as they seem to have had a very good marriage in a business where there are so few.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. It taught me and showed me a life with which I was not familiar. It also addressed some of my unanswered questions as to the fascination with Communism in the mid-century. But it also left some questions unanswered. If the Author reads this review, I wish he would contact me and explain some of his beliefs in further depth than the book.
Nostalgic.......2000-01-21
Gordon's book brought back memories of the old glory days of the gulag archipelago, Kolyma, midnight knocks at the door and the tank treads red with the blood of pulped hungarians. Though Gordon spent much time suspiciously in Franco's Spain, it is obvious that he is still an old comrade at heart. A wonderful book that should be forced reading in today's schools.
Workers of the world unite!.......2000-01-21
A masterwork of progressive thought. Beria and Father Stalin would be proud. All unenlightened thinking must be purged. All counter-revolutionaries must be liquidated. You can't have an omelette without breaking eggs. Hail freedom of approved speech!
Complaint.......2000-01-12
This is not really a review. I am the author of the book and wish to call to your atfention that you are running the Janis review twice. That is exactly a repetition of the original review. Since Janis is clearly political opponent with an axe to grind, one version of his vitriol should suffice. Please eliminate the duplication. Thank you.
Hollywood Exile.......2000-01-06
This book is a wonderful surprise. Although it deals with very serious matters, it is vastly entertaining, plum full of tasty anecdotes about people whose names we know, people we wish to know. Movie makers and movie stars are dealt with without fear of favour. Among them are Ronald and Nancy (Davis) Reagan. Ronnie denied there was a blacklist although when president of the Screen Actors Guild, he was secretly and treacherously supplying the FBI with the names of his members he considered radicals; Gordon, while blacklisted, was secretly writing love scenes for Ronnie and Nancy in the film, Hellcats of the Navy. This became one of the First Couple's favourite films and was run repeatedly at the White House. They never knew who had put the words in their mouths.
Read about David Niven, Charlton Heston, Ava Gardner (not so good); Telly Savalas, Robert Shaw, James Mason (good) and many others. Most of all, read how Gordon, laughing much of the way, turned the tables, built a fascinating career and refused to be destroyed by the blacklist.
This book is not just about Hollywood. Europeans will be surprised to read of the involvement of their contrymen in the McCarthy period. The British and Spanish film industries gain new stature as places where Gordon finds he can work without having to suppress his independent spirit.
