Había tenido la oportunidad de leer Como Agua para Chocolate y me fascino. Ahora decidí leer esta novela pues me habia encantado la manera de escribir de Laura Esquivel. Sin duda esta historia es tan erotica como "Como Agua para Chocolate". Laura Esquivel sabe como manejar las palabras para hacerlas sensuales, tristes, cautivantes, interesantes sin dejar de ser aburrida la historia. Me encanto.

Breathtaking Love Story.......2005-06-04

Jubilo Chi is a remarkable little boy who always smiles, who brings laughter and smiles to everyone around him. Learning to translate (and mediate) between his Mayan grandmother and his Spanish speaking mother, he becomes profoundly impressed with the power of words and the mystery of communication--and so, he decides to become a telegraph operator when he grows up.

Tan Veloz is the story of Jubilo and his life, and especially of his lifelong and sometimes stormy love affair with Lucha, his childhood sweetheart, later wife, later ex-wife. Seen largely through the eyes of his daughter Lluvia, it is a story of the intricacies and difficulties of communication, and of life. The story is not always happy, but the characters are always fascinating, characters you would love to meet. The book also has a great villain, don Pedro. A villain you will love to despise. What else could a reader ask for? I won't tell you the plot, but let's just say it will keep you turning pages.

A charming book by an author who obviously understands the human soul and the mysteries of love. I recommend it highly. Reviewed by Louis N. Gruber.

A great book for beginning a book club!.......2005-03-14

During our first book club meeting, we discovered that we had a lot to say about this novel. There are many wonderful themes to discuss and ponder. At different points in the novel we felt both compassion and disdain for Jubilo and Lucha. The ending is great and we had a feeling that life had come full circle for some of the characters. We're hoping for a sequel to find out about more about the lives of Jubilo's children!

Had me crying & laughing out loud..........2005-03-24

This was a really good book. The last book left off with our meeting Olivia who was saved from the train wreck. This book starts off with a stranger riding into Springwater & he stays at Olivia's rooming house. It's no secret because it's pretty obvious from the description & right off in the book so I'm just going to state that the stranger is one of June Bug's & Jacob's long lost twin boys returned using the name Jack. We've all thought that both sons were dead but here you will see a reunion as well as Olivia & "Jack" falling in love. This book had me crying & laughing out loud. It's a really great heartwarming tale. Read it!

What A Series!.......2004-02-25

I have read through the Springwater Series faster than anything else! It is such a heartwarming frontier town and really makes you feel like you are part of the group.

This book picks up right where Jessica's story left off. At the end of her book, Miss Olivia Darling was saved from the wrecked train and was moving to Springwater to start a boarding house. It's been about a year, and she hasn't had a boarder...until the mysterious Jack McLaughlin shows up on her doorstep. He has a past that he's trying to hide, but also wrestling with whether or not he should reveal his secrets. It goes on from there...

I cried when I read this book. It was touching. It is predictable...as most romance novels are...but it was such a heartwarming tale. Read it!

Not just for the holidays!.......2003-11-23

The title led me to believe that this was a warm fuzzy book appropriate for the holidays. However the reviews set me straight and i decided to read it. I had not read the prequels to this so the characters were all new. The story line is aptly told in other reviews. This is an excellent story, certainly with a different plot, that is about friendship, love, and forgiveness. The hero......jack/will/wesley is a hunk by any name. His emotions bare his soul to us. Olivia is a "spinster" with an enormous amount of love to offer once she opens herself up to those possibilities. I wish ms miller would have made olivia a bit less spinsterish and perhaps not referred to her so often as being a prickly spinster.You could see the evolution happening but unfortunately the book ended too quickly. I am very glad I picked this one up and would read it again.......even in the summer.

That's right, I wish the Springwater Series never had to end. It was extremely good from beginning to end. The final book Speringwater Christmas really had a wonderful story. Since the series had to end--------what a way to end!

Truly wonderful - A great finale........2000-08-15

Indeed, "A Springwater Christmas" is a great finale. It is the final chapter in the Springwater series. In this book, two new characters, Jack McLaughlin and Olivia Darling, are introduced. However, Jack has more in common with the folks of Springwater, then is at first believed.

"A Springwater Christmas" is about the romance of Jack and Olivia. It is an enchanting, heartwarming story. It is about hope. Jack and Olivia's feelings are unveiled and they become romantically involved. Jack's past is revealed. A past which involves others in Springwater. Olivia, who thought she would forever remain a spinster, began to thaw in the winter cold.

"A Springwater Christmas" has a surprising twist that will make you cry. It is a book about a special family. Read it and discover the secret revealed.

For all those that don't know by now........2005-03-30

If you just picked up a b-tech book and began reading there are references some overt some very covert that you would not pick up unless you read the preceding books. That above all is why most wouldn't like this book....I didn't but then i went back and read alot of the preceding books and then alot of it made sense.....GCOM Howell....was Trent's friend who he just belived he had killed and was made to belive was a traitor.....He was a Star Captain at the time then in about 2 years maybe....he's bloodnamed with GCom insignias and shipped back to Huntress to babysit old warriors. Well put your self in a clan warriors mind set and tell me you wouldn't get a lil tipsy now and again and be just a little upset with the circumstances. Come on people.....

thurston is one of the few battletech writers that makes me SMILE (in a good way). the clan warriors seem human and fleshed out, and their sarcasm is so subtle that most of the pre-teen readers of Battletech probably miss it. Maybe its just me but i'd rather read the banter between Horse and Star Commander Joanna, than seeing a repetitive "as molten ferrorus fibre melted from the emerald green large laser blastt". it reminds be sort of how Tarantino and all the 90s ganster movies would show hitmen as they pondered life as well as their inner workings. no other novel explains clan society and infrastructure as well either.

I really liked Thurston's Jade Phoenix trilogy which gives us the major and most detailed description of Clan society in the btech universe.
But 'Freebirth' is an absolute pain. It's chaotic, it makes no sense, it is full of logical mistakes, it's simply embarassing.
You want facts? How's this:
2 LAM's destroying 2 front class clan omnis pilotted by elite clan MW's...go dreamin'.
A proven clan officer who goes whack, acting like Jim Carey, and flopping around like Lieutenant Harris in Police Academy?
A solahma mechwarrior who's all of sudden competing like Natasha Kerensky herself (SCom Buhallin).
Oh, dear...you gotta wonder who's been the freeborn editor of this novel. So if you wanna do yourself a favor: Don't read this book, even if you're a die-hard btech reader. And its story doesnt even play any role in the subsequent novels of the Twilight of the Clans series. Go figure.

This book is awesome for one lacking battles. Sometimes it concentrates on how drunk Galaxy Commander Russou Howell can get. Although he has 2 poorly armed galaxies almost all Galaxy commanders only control 1 galaxy. I think the last battle was stupid though it was smart of howell to use horse. If I were Horse I would not know what to do. Horse helped get himself labeled dumb by choosing to attack the jade falcon forces but having like 20% accuracy and hardly doing anything. For an action less book it deserves a 5. for an action book a 1.8. for an overall book it should be 3.4 but I'll give it a 4.

This book was awful!.......2000-06-12

I could go on and on about how awful this book was. I don't even see how it was really necessary to the Twilight series. It was more like a soap opera than anything else. The ending was the most laughable part... "It's not over yet Horse! ," the drunken Clan bloodnamed warrior Howell screamed while flailing his arms in the air. Sad, just sad... I wish I could destroy a Summoner and a Warhammer with two LAMs. Just skip this book and go on to Twilight V.

Best of its kind, but not for the faint of heart.......2005-05-26

Since I've hesitated a long time between Hopkins' "Fluent Tibetan" with tapes and Tournadre's "Manual of Standard Tibetan," I thought it would be helpful to write a comparative review. I ended up getting both, and I find they complement each other quite well.

Tournadre's Manual is amazingly comprehensive, quite sufficient, it seems, to keep a student busy trough four semester courses or so. This text is useful to lay a strong foundation to build on later on. Prior to the forty-one Lessons, over forty pages present the reader with a thorough introduction to the alphabet, pronunciation and a clever system of transcription of the author's devising. The latter is helpful in precisely describing the pronunciation of the words introduced at each lesson. I counted about 2000 words in the glossaries at the end, which makes quite a rich vocabulary.

The book is also replete with cultural notes, maps and descriptions of the different Tibetan dialects. Another nice touch is the amount of supplementary material, including videos of the dialogues, exercise answer keys and supplementary exercises, all available on the web at the University of Virginia's Tibetan and Himalayan Digital Library website.

On the down side, I found the lessons very hard going. One sometimes gets lost in detail, that is to say, each topic is examined extremely thoroughly (e.g. the spelling variations of the word for "one" and other numbers). Those details are not always essential at the beginnning. This is probably the typical experience of a self-learner like me, while in a classroom situation the teacher would know when to instruct students to skip over the extra details. It is quite apparent that each lesson needs to be expanded and developed in a classroom situation, with perhaps ten times as many exercises, drills and dialogues as are provided in the book, in order to bring out all that it has to offer. I therefore decided that this book was hard to use as a primary text by a pure self-learner, but is probably the best of its kind for classroom instruction. I use it as a reference and will probably go back to it more methodically when I am done with the "Fluent Tibetan" set.

"Fluent Tibetan" is based on the unsurpassed method devised by the Foreign Service Institute, which aims at developing fluency in a short period of time. The tapes are quite audible and provide an extensive set of oral drills, something I haven't seen elsewhere. Some reviewers have complained about the amount of repetition, but I think being bored with repetition in an indication that one is becoming fluent with the material, i.e., the course is delivering the goods. Drilling is quite important when a language has a very different grammar (from my experience with Hebrew). On the other hand, the vocabulary is rather sparse at about 500 words. I find the main strength of the set is in the drills and in the fact that it is mostly, but not exclusively, based on audio material. The set aims at the low-intermediate level. This can keep you busy for about three months if you keep a good pace.

The "Fluent Tibetan" CD-ROM, available separately, does not have any drills, and in summary is quite useless.

Comprehensive and To The Point.......2004-07-03

As a novice trying to learn Tibetan, I have purchased a few books on the subject, and I'm currently enrolled in a Tibetan class. I avoided this book at first because of the high price, but, "you get what you pay for" rang true in this situation. The charts are especially valuable, the explanations are clear, and the dialogues are useful. It also has a healthy content relevant to Tibetan Buddhism and culture. This edition also contains 2 CDs containing all the dialogue, absolutely neccessary in order to capture the correct pronounciation of the Lhasha dialect. An appendix in the back contains a useful bridge between Standard and Classical Tibetan. Simply put, I am extremely pleased with this book and totally "geeked out" by its content!!! It's a beautiful thing, so get it!

It ain't necessarily snow........2003-01-07

Another one of those books that feature items, which if seen individually, would not be too interesting but put 350 of them in a neat square, well printed, all color book and they come alive. Each dome has a page to itself with a caption. Most of the objects inside the domes seem pretty tacky to me, produced as they are for the downmarket tourist trade but near the end of the book there are several advertising domes that look as if their contents have had some thought given to them, M&Ms and the Golden Arches of McDonalds look pretty cool surrounded by snow. The back of the book has a bibliography, web sites (naturally) and index.

Books about snowdomes are pretty sparse, only three are listed in the bibliography, the one I have is 'Snowdomes' by Nancy McMichael, this has a better history than the Carnot book and a more flamboyant presentation and it has a picture of a larger-than-life dome on the front cover whose globe area is actually plastic with a liquid and white flakes inside, it must have been a bookbinder's nightmare to produce.

Flammarion, the French publishers of Snowdomes also have other books in their Collectible series, I have one on wristwatches and another on pocket knives and as they are all the same square shape they do look good on a bookshelf. All I need now are Collectible books on jukeboxes, QSL cards, model Greyhound buses, pin-up playing cards, Santa Claus, TV station test cards and anything to do with the 1939 New York World's Fair!

Great pictures, history, and trivia about snowglobes!!!.......1999-08-03

This book takes us through an entertaining tour of our past by showing us the domes found on the side of the highways.. Fantastic pictures of some more common and a few rare domes spark memories of hot summers and family excursions. Also contained are how domes are made, and what to do if you have a broken dome (don't throw it out!!) If you love these little plastic wonders, or just want a look at a more unusual collectible, check out this book.

This book was given to me as a birthday gift from my mother-in-law. I absolutely love this book. There are many beautiful photos. There are places and subjects that I never knew had so much beauty. Because I am already a huge fan of art and architecture, it was fun to learn about the many influences to Filipino style. Tropical Inspiration.......2007-01-31

I'm an Architectural Designer that lives/works in Jamaica and Bermuda and I'm also a fan of modern/contemporary architecture. I own a number of books on the subject, but few tend to address basic climatic issues that we in the Tropics face (and rightly so, since they are about projects north of the tropics). I've just received the book from my freight forwarder and had a chance to browse thru it. It really looks interesting and certainly provides inspiration for projects that can be successfully executed in our hot, humid climate.
The inclusion of architectural drawings (Plans, Sections, Elevations) is also welcome - too many books on Architecture neglect this very important point. I think this may be the telling factor for deciding whether this is to be another one of my coffee-table books, or a serious informative reference for ideas and inspiration. For now, I'm leaning to the latter.

Eye Opener.......2001-01-04

This book is a great book for young Filipino Americans who need some inspiration. As a Filipino American growing up in USA, I never really felt any connection with the Philippines. I was brought up by knowing only the stereotypes that sometimes make a Filipino American want to shy with embarrassment. Stereotypes are everywhere within any culture. By reading this book and flipping through the pages, I saw that Philippines is a beautiful place. Everyone needs take a look at this book. It's a great eye opener for Filipino Americans who have problems accepting their own skin.

I bought this book for myself. It's a true treasure trove of visual treats. Have you wanted to know how the homes of the rich and/or famous in the Philippines look? The variety of materials available for buidling and furnishing homes in the Philippines is astounding--rich woods, a wide spectrum of fabric, ethnic carvings and woven work. Linger over the detailed photographs in this book! Now I know what to get for my sisters and in-laws for Christmas!

This complilation of recipes is not your usual cookbook, but I appreciated the personal writing style, the bits of history, and the author's love of creating in the kitchen -- all the things that should go into good cooking. This has been a great guide for me, as I have been intimidated to buy anything outside my of my usual repertoire at the my local farmer's market, but the cookbook has some simple suggestions for how to prepare seasonal produce such as greens and root vegetables. The spring rolls are superb, and it is worth purchasing this book for that recipe alone.

This has got to be the most unique and charming cookbook I've ever read. I say plunk down the $5.50 and treat yourself to a good time. I find myself reading it over and over. It's pretty amazing. Is it really a cookbook, or a book that also has recipes? I think it's a little of both. I say check it out.

Not your normal cookbook. The passion and love the authors have for food and food culture spill out of the pages. A lyrical paean to cooking in season with creativity and zest. Good little book to have if you want quick inspiration and some simple but wholesome recipes to try out.

Don't buy them all.......2001-06-05

I was foolish enough to have bought their "...: Color" and "...: Navigation" at the same time. What a big mistake. The authors even had the audacity to use many of the same examples in *both* books! There is no way I'm going to try their Typography" one. I hate being cheated. Buy them used (and thus at a much lower price) if you must buy them at all. They might be a little helpful if you are suffering from a creative block. They weren't helpful for me, but I'm already artistic so maybe that's why.

Delivers what it promises at a very economical price.......2000-09-25

This book delivers exactly what the title implies: inspiring examples of attractive website design, focusing on the use of color. I originally checked the book out of my local library, but after looking at it for an hour, had to jump onto Amazon.com to order my own copy to keep.

The book does not promise to be a "how-to" book, and it does not provide step-by-step instructions on how to achieve results similar to those shown ... there are many other books that do that. Instead, it offers beautiful full color pictures of well designed pages, along with brief comments to help the reader understand why each design works so well.

I'm finding this book to be a great source of inspiration to do some new and exciting things with color. For under $20, this book is a great bargain. I just ordered the other 2 books in this series, on typography and navigation. If they are even half as good as this book, I'll consider the money well spent!

Glossy, inspiring images, thin text.......1999-05-19

I really liked this book. Although thin on written content, it has 96 glossy pages of beautifully designed web sites. This book gives me relief from creative blocks, and I find it a good index of a few URLs to visit and test for myself. Some useful tips on colour are present, but it's really a visual reference rather than anything overly informative. Good value for the low price.
