Book Description
A profound novel of cultural displacement,
The Mimic Men masterfully evokes a colonial man’s experience in a postcolonial world.
Born of Indian heritage and raised on a British-dependent Caribbean island, Ralph Singh has retired to suburban London, writing his memoirs as a means to impose order on a chaotic existence. His memories lead him to recognize the paradox of his childhood during which he secretly fantasized about a heroic India, yet changed his name from Ranjit Kripalsingh. As he assesses his short-lived marriage to an ostentatious white woman, Singh realizes what has kept him from becoming a proper Englishman. But it is the return home and his subsequent immersion in the roiling political atmosphere of a newly self-governed nation that ultimately provide Singh with the necessary insight to discover the crux of his disillusionment.

Naipaul painting with all his usual colors.......2005-01-31
V.S. Naipaul's true genius is found in his travel books (An Area of Darkness, Among the Believers, Beyond Belief) while his novels often suffer the fate of over worn, if generally comfortable shoes: you feel as if you have trodden this ground before. This is not the case with his best works of fiction: A House for Mr. Biswas, A Bend in the River, and In a Free State; here Naipaul allows the stories to tell themselves, even when his superb hand - so masterful and deliberate - is the god of his created world. We get Naipaul but we get Naipaul at his distilled best: pure and unalloyed. The Mimic Men has moments of the genius Naipaul; there his the sense of almost nauseating enclosure that he can generate, as if the story was occurring inside a paper bag; there is the minute dissection of each moment of experience, as if he was an experienced vivisectionist with no qualms about slicing the flesh razor thin for our examination. He paints a world where returns are ever diminishing, and the very effort to continue living seems not a natural pursuit, but somehow supernatural in is scope. If you have the fortitude to read many of Naipaul's novels you will have the fortune to see him hone is craft as he tries to answer four or five vexing existential questions. The question for the reader is, do you want to see this done through four or five often vexing novels? For me, the answer is yes. No one can make you squirm better than Naipaul.
BRILLIANT.......2004-02-23
This book is BRILLIANT. I am from a former West Indian colony and I KNOW that this man KNOWS what he is talking about. This book ROCKED MY EARTH!
Tedious.......2003-12-22
One of the most boring and unattractive books I have ever read. What an unfortunate idea to give a running commentary on the events rather than let the reader enjoy the events themselves. I often wondered whether I was reading a badly written essay rather than a novel. Instead of a good story about the racial and political complexities of a colonial (and post-colonial) society you get an exercise in style. Self-indulgent sophistication makes this a tedious read. No more Naipaul for me, thankyou.
Powerful and lyrical.......2003-09-22
This was the first book I read by V.S. Naipaul, and it is by far my favorite of his so far. Although I did not initially think that a book dealing with the post-colonial struggle for identity would interest me, I found it to be so much more than that, and completely enthralling. It is a beautifully written, almost lyrical work that weaves back and forth in time to create a compelling portrait of a character who, to be sure, has somewhat "distasteful" aspects to his personality, as mentioned by other reviewers. However, I did not find the distasteful parts to be gratuitous, but rather added to the reader's sense of the humiliation and dull despair the character wades through, the sense of longing for some kind of greatness and finding himself instead stuck in the muck and mire. The unshakable sense that man was made for nobility and greatness and consequently longs for more, while he is interminably caught up in eddies of revolting, degrading, and pointless behavior. Though the book did not offer much in the way of hope (which I nonetheless most definitely think exists), it provided an eloquent picture of the state of humanity in the face of one man. I definitely recommend this book.
Mimicry.......2003-03-31
Nobel-prize winning Naipaul has written in The Mimic Men a wonderful discourse on the post-colonial search for indentity. Growing up between two worlds, those of the colonizer and of the colonized, the main character struggles to develop a cohsive self as a child, attempting to reconcile western values and beliefs with his traditional Hindu background.
The trials of the character continue through adulthood as he returns to his native Caribbean island with a new English wife, earns a status as one of the island's elite, and attempts to become one with his past as helps incite rebellion on the island against colonial forces.
The prose is beautiful, and Naipaul's power of observation and description are astounding. He truly gets to the heart of the post-colonial condition is this novel, one which will surely become a stable of post-colonial literature studies. Recommended highly to all.

I Have to Love It, Since I Wrote It!.......2007-08-12
Since I'm one of the authors of this book (Jen Nicholas - NOT ANOTHER FAIRY TALE), I have to say it rocks!!
Honestly, though, if you like a dose of hot, spicy, contemporary romance, then you'll like this book!
A Spicy Anthology!.......2006-01-29
"Wicked Women on Top" is a fun romance anthology with wicked women and equally wicked men!
In "Let The Games Begin" shy girl Tiffany Taylor wants the attention of bad boy Nick Marlow. Nick is a few years older then her and no matter what she does she can't seem to make him see her in a new light. Well on bet later these two are going to win regardless of who wins the bet.
In "Not Another Fairytale" cynical Allison Dare doesn't believe in romance or soul mates...yet she has to write an article on finding your soul mate. So when yummy J.T. Freedom collapse at her doorstep she has to wonder if perhaps she had been too hasty.
In "Private Investigations" Cara is going to work her first case her way. But when handsome Brandon Walker walks in on her less then successful breaking and entering. Cara has loved Brandon since she was fourteen and she is not going to let him get away from her this time.
These were fun spicy reads that were entertaining. All three authors know how to pack a whole lot into very little.
Hot Hot Hot.......2005-09-17
Make sure you have a cold drink and cool room to read this book. Left me wanting MORE!
Addictive!.......2005-07-07
I thoroughly enjoyed this collection. As a new reader of romance novels, I was caught off guard by the sheer addictive nature of these stories! What a wonderful way to wind down from a hectic day...thanks to the talents of these engaging authors!
Good Old Sexy Wickedness.......2005-03-29
Uplifting way to spend an afternoon relaxing at the pool with a good book. If only these kind of stories lasted a lifetime...

Look! Up in the sky! It's "God-Man!".......2005-07-20
I never paid much attention to Superman before Crisis on Infinite Earths. In my earlier years, I preferred the more humanized heroes from Marvel to the world-recognized icons from DC. Lately, I've been reading DC's Superman "decade collections" in order to find out more about the history of the Man of Steel. SUPERMAN IN THE SEVENTIES can best be described as a good, if somewhat overwhelming, choice.
This book is proof that, after more than 3 decades of almost no editorial restraint, Superman was approaching omnipotence. I really feel for the various writers whose work is represented in this book, as I'm sure it would be very difficult to write a character that has no limits. While I am not that big of a fan of the changes that resulted from COIE, SUPERMAN IN THE SEVENTIES convinces me that, in the case of Superman at least, the "big wipe" was necessary. The stories presented here show a Superman who is stuck in a loop, a never-ending display of increasingly unlimited powers: when you have a hero who can get himself out of any seemingly hopeless situation, you have to have villains who can make the next situation seem even MORE hopeless. Then, of course, the hero must come up with yet another amazing solution to that more hopeless situation, and on and on. Eventually, this leads to implausibility and outright ridiculousness (yes, even for a comic!). By the time I finished this collection, I knew exactly what the editors and writers at DC were thinking when they decided to pull the curtain in the mid-`80s.
Don't get me wrong: I don't hate the stories collected in SUPERMAN IN THE SEVENTIES. In fact, I enjoyed this book very much. The stories are both grandiose and crazy. Considering that, in general, comics were finally maturing somewhat in the `70s, I am fascinated that the Superman stories could retain such a `50s - `60s sense of wonder. These pages contain all kinds of over-the-top weirdness, such as Superman moving everyone on Earth into an alternate dimension to escape Lex Luthor's "galactic golem", and Lois Lane becoming a black woman for a day. The secret to enjoying this book is to remember just how powerful Superman was back in the day, and then seeing how the writer of each story does their best to make him interesting. Most of them do a great job, definitely making it a worthwhile read.
The only real complaint I have for the book is that too many of the stories begin or end abruptly. Multi-parters were not included in their entirety, so some of what takes the stories from "good" to "exceptional" is unfortunately left out.
A bit jumbled, but great nonetheless!.......2002-06-05
This book is a collection of wonderful Superman comics from the 1970s, the Superman that I grew up with. The comics were apparently selected to give a cross-section of Superman's activities in the 70s, and include comics from Superman #276 (6/74), DC Comics Presents #14 (10/79), Superman #248 (2/72), #271 (1/74), #249 (3/72), #286 (4/75), Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #133 (10/70), Superman's Girl Friend Lois Lane #106 (11/70), Superman #287 (5/75), #233 (1/71), #247 (1/72), #270 (12/73), and Action Comics #484 (6/78).
OK, as you can tell from that list, the comics seem somewhat jumbled or randomized. And, as several of the stories were multi-issue, it is rather sad that you can't keep reading to find out how the Man of Steel overcomes the bad guy. But, in spite of all that, this book is really great! The stories included are all very interesting, and it is great to look back to the Superman of a different era.
An added little bonus to this book is the introduction, which was written by Christopher Reeve, Hollywood's Superman, and a bit of a hero in his own right. This is a really good book, and I highly recommend it.
Gives you a flavor of pre-Crisis Superman stories.......2002-02-24
As I've mentioned in my review for "Batman in the 70s", the problem faced by all such compilations is that everyone will have an opinion of what other stories should be included and what should have been left out. I feel that this is a decent collection of Superman stories in the 70s, as all the key artists and characters are represented here. The TPB contains classics like "Superman Breaks Free" which is Dennis O'Neil's attempt at revamping the Superman; Elloit S! Maggin's classic "Must there be a Superman?", somewhat overhyped but still an interesting story; a Jimmy Olsen story by Jack 'King' Kirby; a story about Krypto; and other stories featuring Lex Luthor, Brainiac etc. Of course, it would have been even better if the TPB collects more stories about the Fortress of Solitude, bottled city of Kandor etc.
Some shortcomings of this collection: It would probably have been more fun to read some of the stories in the entire run (like Marvel Essentials) than on a single-issue basis as they are presented in this TPB. E.g. "Superman breaks free" is actually the first book of O'Neil's Sandman saga; the Jimmy Olsen story is the first of around 20 (?) issues which Kirby wrote. It is a shame that DC has decided not to reprint these classic runs anywhere, since it will cost a bomb for anyone to try to collect the original copies of these comics. Another omission that everyone complains is the story arc in Superman #296-299 "Who took the Super out of Superman?"
In spite of all the shortcomings, I feel that this collection will give the reader a good sampling of pre-crisis superman stories. There are many classic moments in this TPB: Superman eating Kryptonite (!); Superman playing billards with planets; plus time-travel, aliens, inter-galactic travel all thrown in for good measure. In my opinoin, the biggest attraction of this TPB is the great artwork by Curt Swan, viewed by many fans as the greatest Superman artist of all time. Conclusion: Even though this TPB is not really the most ideal 70s collection possible, it will be a welcome addition to your collection, unless you are fortunate enough to own many original Superman comics from the 70s. Enjoy!!
This volume deserves the bad reviews you're seeing!.......2001-02-14
I thought the reviews for this book were harsh. Then I got the book. They're right on the money. I grew up reading the Superman of the 1970s. These are the stories that shaped my viewpoints of Superman, but this book is wanting. None of the great Superman chronicles I remember are here. "The Double or Nothing Life of Superman" is a series I just purchased on eBay. It should be included in this volume. I also recall an outstanding, well-written series in which, among other things, the Bottled City of Kandor was smashed, as Superman again had issues with his Kryptonian past. And the greatest Superman story of the 1970s, "Superman Vs. Spider-Man," while mentioned, is woefully missing. The Superman of the 1970s brought about characters like Steve Lombard, Morgan Edge, and a few others, who participated in some great tales. You'll find the characters here, but not the good stories. Really, save your money on this book. Go to eBay and try and win some of the actual issues themselves from the 1970s.
nothing much.......2001-01-22
I have to say I didn't expect much , but this is less then that , though some where good starters & some where good end, there is a lot to noticed in between, as if they wonted the bring you some samples of the superman version in the seventies but not at his best , you can say almost as if it was a low design time capsule that was buried too long for it sake .
But of course my review are mush influenced by me being an old seventies superman fan and already have seen half of the stories in the comic book , and with that in mind 2 stars is the best I can give.

Book Description
This best-selling introduction to world religions is ideal for readers with no previous exposure to the subject. Offering accurate, comparative descriptions of a broad range of religions, it gives background material on religious theory and study, while exploring living religions in terms of the historical and cultural factors that produced them. The book concentrates on the lives of the founders of different religions, their basic teachings, and their current status in the world. Unlike other books, Religions of the World includes chapters on Native American and African religions as well as the smaller text-based religions, such as Jainism, Sikhism, Zoroastrianism, and Baha'i. An excellent reference work for those involved in religion and the study of religion, including those involved in marketing for various religious publications, videos, etc.
Customer Reviews:
great introductory text on world religions.......2007-09-12
I have read the chapters on the religions of India (including Islam) and Baha'ism as part of a study abroad course on Indian religions. As a survey of world religions, this may well be the best textbook I've seen so far, and I have looked at a few in my day. It is readable, but also thorough. In addition to reviewing the basic information I've learned before, I found myself coming across little details that I'd never known (like that Mahavira's original name was Nataputta Vardhamana, or that the cause of the Buddha's death was a meal of spoiled pork curry).
The best thing about this book, though, are the passages of primary texts both within and at the end of each chapter. Though sometimes challenging to read, as ancient scripture often is, these selections really captured a lot of the basic character of each faith and supported what was being presented in the chapters.
As an introductory text on world religions, I would definitely recommend this book.
From One Instructor to Another . . ........2004-08-30
I use this text to teach my college class on World Religions (REL 101). It is a nice little text. As with all works it has some advantages and some disadvantages.
ADVANTAGES:
1. An Instructor's Manual With Tests is available. I don't use most of the tests because I prefer class participation and lots of written papers, but the manual helps me keep on target and helps me design questions for class discussion time.
2. A free multimedia cd "The Sacred World" is available to instructors who mass order the text. This is a $60 value and contains 60 short video clips. I like to use these to add accent to class times.
3. The text itself is well written and time tested (This is the 9th edition). It is easy for the student to read. I usually expect them to read the chapters and be prepared for discussion. My lectures bring additional material to the class.
4. All in all these materials are easy to teach from.
DISADVANTAGES:
1. As one can read from previous reviews, the text has limited depth. It must be assumed that the instructor will have the capability to bring additional material to the classroom.
2. The book contains a huge gap in its lack of a chapter on "New Age" religions. This needs to be corrected as any casual trip to a book store will affirm. I usually add the following topics to those which the book covers:
a. Atheistic philosophies
b. The advent of the post modern mind
c. New age religion
Good Book for An Introduction To Religions.......2004-08-23
I have been using Hopfe's book since the fourth edition, and I have found it to be very useful and reliable in my classes. The book shows an awareness of the nuances relevant to the various topics (including definition, contra the claim by a previous reviewer who didn't seem to read past the first page) and Woodward's updating and website keep the book up to date. Yes, the glossary could be more extensive, but I tend to work from the book and not just within the confines of the book (as I'm sure the other reviewer does as well), so this is not a serious impediment. Many more terms are defined in the text than appear in the glossary. A nice little book.
The only book on the subject that I have read.......2003-04-17
The book does a good job of explaining major religions without getting caught up in issues of faith.
It would be nice to know the authors personal religious beliefs, in order to confirm a suspected bias. Their beliefs are not listed in the book. I found it odd that in the Christian chapter, it is not mentioned the trinity or that Christians believe Jesus is God.
More color pictures would be nice. Many words are missing from the glossary and the index, such as "li". The authors use lots of words that the common person doesn't know such as pantheon/patheon?, monastic, etc...
The Mind of a Pocket Calculator.......2001-10-31
Typical of many academic types, Hopfe explains away that which he has no experience with. In this instance, it results in a lifeless mind explaining away world religions, one by one. E.g. the first sentence in the introduction is Webster's definition of religion. One would gather the impression that world religions were the result of a manufacturing process - one similar to the manner in which this book is written - with all the truth and sensitivity of a .45 caliber handgun. If what you want is a kind of macabre vivisection, I suggest Stephen King - he's much better.

A Therapeutic Book For Both Author And Reader.......2003-01-13
If life is all about learning, and I believe that to be so, then Simon Waters offers the reader the opportunity to share his learnings along the road to wisdom. He takes the reader through his personal journey from semi-conscious living where events define personal experience, through the middle ground of painful discovery and regret, to full conscious living where awareness, perspective, and resulting choices design experience.
Mr. Waters does an excellent job of connecting the reader to universal themes worth revisiting again and again. To remember our own life events as a result of the telling of his personal story, profoundly connects and unites us all. A great job and well worth several readings. I highly recommend it.
Heartwarming Tale of Family Relationships.......2003-01-11
The title alone draws you to this book. When you start reading it, it's like having a conversation with the author personally. The memories that this book evokes brings you to tears and laughter at the same time. This book can be read by people of all ages and will bring warm emotions throughout the entire book. I highly recommend for all to read "I Wish I Never Told My Father That I Didn't Like Cheesecake". Does this author offer any more books? His style of writing is worth reading. I have read this book over and over again, and yet it brings out different memories each time. Thank you, Simon Waters, for writing such a beautiful love story between father and son.

Customer Reviews:
delish-iously entertaining!.......2007-05-18
Well structured, likeable characters, fast paced story with bonus recipes that are "wonderful". A great read to share with a friend.
An okay entry in a struggling series.......2007-04-10
I have read all of the Hannah series, and the last three novels have begun to strain my patience. I find both Andrea and Tracey increasingly annoying, and am frustrated by the so-called love triangle between Hannah, Norman and Mike. There needs to be some resolution of the proposals and Hannah's relationship with both Norman and Mike. No person would have a "ready to marry you" relationship with two people at the same time.
This story moved slow, only picking up pace 2/3 of the way into the book after the murder occurred. This, in my opinion, occurred too late in the story and the last third, the part with Hannah investigating, seemed rushed and almost an afterthought. This is what I usually read this type of book for, the mystery.
While I will give the author another try in her next book, there may need to be some major shake ups for me to continue with this series that continues to struggle.
Cookies can be deadly..........2007-03-26
Ok, first of all I have to confess that I'm a fan of this series. I love the recipes, the characters and most of all the setting. Since I live in South Texas, I love to read about how people live in cold climates. In this seventh Hannah Swensen mystery, a movie crew in search of a quaint Minnesota location comes to Lake Eden to film a movie. The citizens of Lake Eden are thrilled and so is Hannah, since she is asked to cater for the crew. The filming goes smoothly until the director, who is a womanizer, seems to accidentally shoots himself with a prop gun. Turns out there were real bullets in the gun, so was his death really an accident? Hannah thinks NOT, and she's right. Someone switched the unloaded prop gun and left a real one in its place. Eventually Hannah solves the case, but we're treated to some great batches of Double Flake Cookies and Angel Kisses first. Readers may find that they like me are tired of Hannah's love life. She can't seem to choose between Norman and Mike, and it's getting old. However, that shouldn't prevent anyone from picking up this entertaining book. It's a good idea to start the series at the beginning, first because of the fabulous recipes in each book, and secondly, because the citizens of Lake Eden are worth getting to know.
Okay If You Can Suspend Contact with Reality.......2007-03-04
I love cozy mysteries, and I'm used to having to overlook a lot of inconsistencies with real life to enjoy them. At least there is a decent plot to this story, unlike the Sugar Cookie Murder. But the idea that two successful, likeable men are competing for Hannah and are patiently waiting while she tries to decide between them strains even the best imagination. If someone doesn't love me enough to say "yes" when I propose, that is the end of our romantic relationship. Hannah's incredibly precocious neice is almost too good to believe, and I guess I really don't believe her. And the director of the movie waits this late to cast the big role that Tracy gets??? Right... My favorite character is Moishe; having had many nice cats, I find him to be a character who is totally true to real life. This will probably be my last Fluke mystery. Having read the entire series, I find it hard to say good-bye, but I just can't see continuing with these unbelieveable plots.
Too sweet..........2007-03-03
Joanne Fluke's "Cherry cheesecake Murder" is really sickeningly sweet, even for for those with a taste for 'cozy' mysteries, such as I. Even the recipes interspersed throughout go heavy on the sugar and the endorsements for Ghiradelli Chocolates and Hershey Kisses. Then there are all the 'beau's' who are hugging Hannah throughout, though she plays coy and only 'tingles' at their touch. You get the message....and the mystery plot itself is only secondary to the rest of this airy, spun-sugar concoction.

Great introduction........2004-06-22
In its roughly 50 parts, all written by experienced cooks and cook book writers, HP Books' "The Book of ... Cooking" series takes you to the cuisines of various regions of the U.S. and around the world; all in easy to follow, well-explained recipes.
This installment, the Book of Cheesecakes, starts with a brief introduction to the necessary equipment and utensils and the types of cheeses, pastries and borders used in the recipes, and then presents recipe suggestions for all major types of cheesecakes, from continental to savory cheesecakes. Special chapters are dedicated to low-fat cheesecakes (yes, there is such a thing!), medium-fat, curd, cream cheese, full-fat, no-bake, fruit, dried fruit, nut, wine, spirits, chocolate and spiced cheesecakes. Classics such as Black Forest Cheesecake, Blueberry Cheesecake, Easter Cheesecake, Lindy's Cheesecake, Manhattan Cheesecake, Old-Fashioned Cheesecake, Russian Easter Cheesecake and various strawberry cheesecakes appear next to unique creations such as Campari Cheesecake, Chocolate and Whiskey Cheesecake, Pina Colada Cheesecake, Riced-Top Cheesecake and White Chocolate and Chestnut Cheesecake.
From amaretti, apple, apricot and almond cheesecakes to Wine and Grape Cheesecake, this collection of recipes, while not all-encompassing, is a great introduction to the endless possibilities of creating a delicious desert from cheese, pastries and a variety of toppings - and at a relative bargain price, to boot. Also recommended: This series's installments on chocolates and petits fours, crepes and omelets, ice creams and sorbets and on light desserts.

Great book idea - FULL of the CUTEST baby pix!!!.......1997-07-11
The idea of a special book listing ones birthday and anniversary dates by month - is TERRIFIC!!! It's MUCH less work than transferring the dates onto a calendar every year (as I do now) or just "remembering." And when someone gets married, has a baby or other special situations - you just note it right then. You'll always know the age or number of years married as well. Since these dates don't change, this record book will be useful for a VERY long time. The "Cheesecake Baby" is one of Anne Geddes' CUTEST baby pix creations - you just HAVEEE to smile every time you see it! And, of course, every page has DARLING babies in VERY imaginative scenes - but it's plenty roomy for LOTS of relatives to be listed. It will ALWAYS be a pleasure to check your Cheesecake Baby book for the current month's card/gift reminders

Color made easy with design diva April Cornell.
Designer April Cornell—owner of more than 100 boutiques throughout North America, as well as a successful wholesale company—walks home decorators through the mysteries of choosing and combing hues, of transforming a house from blah to dynamic, and of using color to create a mood. Every photo fairly pulsates with richness and texture, and the images provide ample instruction on drawing from nature’s own palette, bringing visual contrast into home décor, and defining personal colors. Throughout, Cornell offers specific paint suggestions and quick decorating ideas, including plans for adding bright details (vivid duvets, vibrant tablecloths) everywhere, decorating a child’s room in lively, happy tones, and even entertaining colorfully.
April Cornell has beautifully translated her artful combinations of color and floral designs into exquisite collections of romantic clothing, linens, and home accessories. She designs her own lines for the more than 100 April Cornell and La Cache boutiques in North America, as well as for a wholesale company, Cornell Trading.

The ideas in this book will get your own creative juices flowing. Innovation meets modern design.
Tonality, Shading, And Shadow Come Into Their Own.......2007-03-25
"Letterhead and Logo Design 6" is a great addition to the library of any graphic artist. Although I marginally preferred volume four in the series, this edition contains many examples of brilliant logo and letterhead design. I gave the book four stars rather than five because the conceptual explanations from the designers seen in earlier volumes are largely gone from this edition. That in no way takes away from the brilliance of most of the designs exhibited in this book, however.
I was drawn especially to some of the more stark, monochrome designs, especially those with a single element of color strategically positioned: classic examples are the effort from Christian Nielinger on page 23, and the material for Process Solutions on page 63 from Howard Levy. Some other designers elected to use color as a main element of the design with stunning effects: I was particularly pleased with the use of elemental orange in the design for Clark Printing (page 53) skillfully executed by designers Perry Chua and Nancy Yeasting of Big Eye Creative.
Tonality, shading, and shadow really come into their own as integral design elements in this volume with a brilliant design (page 42) from Emanuel Barbosa for Vector XXI, and the sublime design from Hellen Rayner of Blue i Design on page 93, which is perhaps my favorite of all showcased designs in the book.
While not every design in the book is great, all are very original, and are certainly worth evaluating, whether you are a designer or a corporate representative looking for a new corporate image. For those who do see something they like, there is a helpful directory of participants in the back of the book.
For anyone with an interest in logo and letterhead design, whether casual or professional, this is a very good book and I recommend it without reservation.
...a clean collection of letterhead and logo designs.......1999-11-21
for anyone interested in having a good source of inspiration when it comes to well though letterhead and logo designs this might be the book for you. however, if you were expecting a 'how to book' or a recipe on designing logos, you are better of looking elsewhere.
it covers ideas from a large range of industries with a nice arrangement of logos, by themselves, on business cards, and as on letterheads. it is extremely applicable to most industries and even web design for the 2000s.
great book over all for your graphic design literature collection.

Graphic Design - Bookshelf Basic- thumbs up!.......2002-04-24
I find this book to be a good information and idea source for logo design. I love the examples and the chapter explanation at the beginning of each chapter, explaining the thoughts and reasons behind particular design.
To me, I would like a bit longer of an explanantion in the intro pages to the chapters, that is the only reason I gave it a 4 out of 5.
Over all, I would suggest this book be on any designers bookshelf.
good resourse for graphic designers.......2000-09-05
Out of the books with logos I've seen, Print has the best ones, this book has tons of creative logos and symbols, most of them have been created using great conceps, others are simple and aparentelly just have been done to do something that looks nice but I still like it. I don't like logos not only that looks "cute" or that have a just the concep and nobody get what is it about, I mean from my point of view a good logo or symbol must have both and when you see them you have to know what is it really about, this book has great samples. I would like to see logos from arround the world but I think there isn't such as that thing, I hope to see a book with a huge collection of best logos and symbols from arround the world.
