THIS WORK OF FICTION WAS CAPTIVATING. IT WILL KEEP YOUR INTEREST FROM THE VERY BEGINNING AND YOU WILL NOT WANT IT TO END. THE AUDIO VERSION WAS NICELY DONE. I ALWAYS ENJOY WHEN THE CHARACTERS COME ALIVE THROUGH THE NARRATOR. I WOULD RECOMMEND HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.

Book Description
How would an intelligent visitor from another planet react to life on Earth? Would we welcome that visitor's presence and views? Are we ready for such an open exchange? Weaving together science fiction, spirituality, and philosophy with wisdom, humor, and plain common sense, Wayne Dyer tells the story of two peaceful beings from different worlds who work together to enhance the well-being of all.The gifts that Eykis brings to the people of Earth help them see themselves in a new light, and compel them to rethink their negative actions. Her insightful offerings will move you to new emotions, new behaviors, and a new understanding of humankind's limitless possibilities.

I bought it, and I gave away over a dozen copies to friends and relations.......2007-07-10
In the second half of the 1980's, I felt like my life was going down the drain. I read Eykis ( 1983 version) and found the 'secrets' so helpful I did something I've never done before or since. I bought a dozen copies and gave them to friends and relatives. Dog-eared doesn't do justice as a description of the back third of the book.
Don't Miss Out on Eykis' Gifts For Another Day!!!.......2007-06-08
"Gifts from Eykis" is, without a doubt, THE most important, stirring, provocative, life changing book I've read so far on my own personal journey of self-discovery!!! I cannot recommend this book highly enough - in fact, I agree with one of the other reviewers who said that this should be required reading in every high-school (and I would add college as well) on this planet! If we could do this 1 thing for our young adults - exposing them to these "gifts" - we would soon find a beautifully changed world on our hands, of this there's no doubt in my mind!
This book starts off with a young physics major who's graduating from grad school. On graduation day 1 of his professors gives him a folder of calculations - saying that figuring them out will become the most important work of his life. These calculations turn out to be the formula for transporting oneself to another planet - a planet where everything that happens is totally reality-based. For example, when they say they're having an anxiety attack, it is because they acutally have a bacteria called anxiety that does in fact attack, causing the same symptoms we experience here on Earth.
While visiting this other planet the young man meets Eykis, and through her he learns how this reality-based universe works & why. When he's unable to explain why we experience the same things on Earth as they do, even though we're not reality-based, she decides to venture back with him to our planet to see for herself. At the conclusion of this visit she shares her reaction to the way we think, talk, & behave & her view that things could be SO MUCH better if we would just change our current ways of thinking.
"Gifts from Eykis" is a mixture of wisdom, philosophy, humor, spirituality, and down-to-earth common sense. It's written in such a way that it leads you to not only ponder where your current thinking is in error, but also begin to change this "wrong thinking". For me this story continues to stay in my mind, allowing me to realize quickly when I'm off track from where I'd like to be. I think it's SO compelling & lasting because the information is shared by an "outsider" who is looking in - it really makes you think what would an intelligent being from another planet would think about us & our way of life if they were to visit.
Overall, I wish EVERYONE on our planet would read "Gifts from Eykis" - I think it's that important!!! It provides a wonderful "road map" for those people who choose to change their lives for the better, creating a life where they are happy, fulfilled, healthy, and able to truly enjoy everything that life has to offer. As I said before, I can't recommend it highly enough!!! This book would also make a great gift for friends, family, and young adults who are graduating from high school or college. These "gifts" are something no one should have to live without!
A Strong Dose of Reality.......2006-04-09
Whenever I get caught up in the useless worries and stresses that so many people in society feel, I revisit this book. For example on planet Uranus if people want to see into the future, they can accomplish it merely by feeling the emotion of worry. However on planet Earth, feeling the emotion of worry does NOT enable us to see into the future, so Eykis was confused about why we bother to worry. It's definitely a good point.
Gifts from Eykis.......2005-07-08
Enjoyable reading with many lessons for those who are ready to recognize them.
Parable Form Does Not Suit Dr. Dyer.......2003-07-21
I have read and enjoyed virtually of all of Wayne's major works. However, I feel compelled to give this book a 1-star review. Why? Because Wayne simply does not write well in this format. Compared to Masterpieces like "The Prophet", "Gifts from Eykis" is a joke.

An ideal book On I Ching........2006-02-16
I have bought several books on I Ching and this one is one of the most interesting books I have purchased. The book is larger than most books, about an A3 size but short on text than most books, less than a page for each hexagram.(a bit too light on for text).Written in simple English makes this book an advantage. The illustations throughout add to the character of the book. This book will please a lot of people.Didnt have this book for long because I needed more indepth books.
If you are looking for books on I Ching that go in depth and in great detail you might want to consider other books like those written by author Stephen Karcher,Kim-Anh Lim,Sam Reifler, etc.
Best I Ching available.......2003-10-22
Some of the longer reviews will tell you how this I Ching integrates relevant art work with practical advice. I just wanted to second all the positive reviews here in saying that from looking at many I Ching books, this is the only one that really clicked with me. The art work is beautiful and the text is very illuminating. 5 +++ stars!
Fabulous Interpretations for Abstract and Visual Thinkers.......2003-01-06
this is the best version of the I Ching out: each hexagram is accompanied by a relevant piece of traditional Chinese painting that helps the intuitive understanding of the message the hexagram intends to convey. Lively text translation that interprets the hexagrams on the four planes of existence: spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical aids in the interpretation of the hexagrams' messages as related to the areas the question might address. The tone is psycho-spiritual-social but written in everyday terms.

Beautiful book.......2002-03-06
I own both this one and the I Ching Workbook and they are practically the same book, though this one doesn't have the spiral binding (which you'll need because you'll open it so much) but has the most beautiful, meditative paintings on each hexagram. The pictures give you a profound inner sense of the truth of each throw of the coins, transforming the experience into a deeply effective tool for inner growth. Not to be confused with the Art of War or the Tao Te Ching, the I Ching focuses mainly on political relationships and the development of character as one navigates one's way through professional and personal relationships. The main thing you'll get from using the I Ching is, to learn which situations you can definitely change and which ones you should just let pass. It also shows you where you are in the development of goals and what to prepare yourself for, as you go on. Start with one question, and when you read the answer, if you have deeper questions, ask them too. You'll get amazing answers.
If you have to read reviews on the I-Ching.......2001-04-08
If you have to read reviews about I-Ching books this is the first book you need to buy. The study of the I Ching begins with practice by consulting the oracle not with immediate attempts at understanding-especially for the Western mind. This version of the I Ching is the easisest way to make that first step. You read a few paragraphs on instructions to throw three pennies and begin an adventure that can last from a few minutes to a lifetime. Despite its ease of use, this book is a complete work unto itself shold you choose to go deeper. It has ample references to history and more subtle interpretations. A glimpse of Western understanding may be obtained by reading Carl Jung's foreword in the Baynes/Wilhelm interpretation.

Book Description
The Book of Changes, or Yi Jing or better known to the West as I Ching, is the oldest philosophical text extant in China. Its origins are lost in the mists of time, but scholars believe that the basic compilation was done early in the Zhou Dynasty (c. 11th century - 221 B.C.). Based on a system of divination using eight basic trigrams (groups of solid and broken lines), permutations of 64 pairs of trigrams were worked out and over the ages pithy commentaries added. The Book of Changes purports to chart the movements and developments (hence "changes") of all the phenomena in the universe, It has been regarded by many as a complete system of philosophy in itself, and has been consulted by emperors, statesmen and generals throughout Chinese history. Revered by Confucius, the Book of Changes was included in the Five Classics of Confucianism. It was one of the few books spared when Emperor Qin Shi Huang (259-210 B.C.) ordered the works of previous dynasties to be burnt. So The Book of Changes has had an unbroken influence on Chinese thought and culture down to modern times.
The Illustrated Book of Changes makes this venerable classic available to the reader in modern Chinese and English translations. The 64 hexagrams and their traditional commentaries are explained, with illustrations, and the Chinese text has been written by eadinS calligraphers.

No nutritional information... .......2005-03-13
I haven't had a chance to try any of the recipes yet, but am very disappointed that there is no nutritional information for any of the recipes. I understand that they're low fat/fat free, but they don't include calories, fiber, etc.
The Cinnamon Roll Recipe alone is worth the price!.......2001-02-19
While I've only tried several recipes in this book, the cinnamon roll recipe alone is worth the price of this book. The first time I made them they flopped, but I just gave them a second try last night and wahla! I can hardly get over the fact that they're fat-free and my step son loved them, the real test! ANd my cinnamon rolls looked just as good as those on the cover, if not better! I didn't have any luck with the fudge recipe, but then again, it could be something I did and maybe I'll try it again. Good luck!
Tempting, Tasty, and Too Good To Be True!.......1999-12-07
This book was clear, concise, and used ingredients readily found in your home. The sugar cookies were amazing, as well as the cupcakes, and the breads were great! This book is a must for anyone trying to follow a low-fat diet, and it is a definite plus for anyone with a family they are cooking for!
Tastes great and humorous!.......1998-03-26
This was a gift and I was very skeptical about the outcome of any of the finished products - fat free decadence? So I tried the Ultralight Pastry Dough, Sweet Cheese Puffs, World's Thinnest Pizza Crust, Thousand Island Dressing and the Hot Fudgy Milk Chocolate Sauce. They all turned out wonderful! Tasty and pretty simple to make, I found myself enjoying a little slice of sin without the burden of butter and loss of flavor. Flavor is one element I have found is lacking in most fat free cookbooks today but not here. Though there are no pictures of the final products (except for the four on the cover) I found that Mr. Wolfe's descriptions at the beginning of each recipe gave me a smile and the urge to quickly try it. A definate MUST for anyone fighting the fat war and you don't have to spend alot on the ingredience or the book for that matter.
Book Description
Noritake: Jewel of the Orient is the most complete book ever published on Noritake dinnerware. The book takes you on an historical journey beginning with Morimura Brothers, Inc. in 1876; continuing through Nippon Toki Kabushiki Kaisha, Ltd. in 1904; the post World War II "Occupied Japan" period of Rose China; and the eventual renaming to Noritake Company in the 1980s.
The focus of this book is on Noritake china released prior to 1960, with special emphasis on patterns made popular as catalog premiums by Larkin (a competitor of Sears, Roebuck & Co.). These include the patterns Azalea, Tree in the Meadow, and Pattern #175 (White and Gold). Period ads, digital photos, lists and illustrations show the wide variety of piece types created. Sections on lusterware, giftware, pattern shapes, and backstamps are also included. There are more than 3,000 full color digital photographs here, along with an easy to use pattern finding system.
Customer Reviews:
A treasure trove of information for Noritake lovers.......2001-09-08
This is one of the most complete sources of information on Noritake I've come across, featuring full-color photos (with enlargements of pattern details) of many, many Noritake patterns as well as an up-to-date price list. Potential buyers should be aware that the focus is on patterns made before 1960. There are specific chapters on the Azalea Pattern, scalloped and multisided patterns, backstamps and a detailed bibliography (for those who want to do more research), glossary, an explanation of how to find specific patterns, etc. The historical info, while not lengthy, is clear and sufficient to satisfy all but the most obsessive collector. I learned quite a bit that I didn't know before and found many, many patterns which I'd seen online and at auctions but hadn't been able to locate elsewhere. It was an extra pleasure looking at the photos of actual ads, including those from Morimura Brothers (a company whose success at matching Japanese production with American designs led directly to the birth of Noritake). This book was an absolute delight to read and one I plan to use again and again.

Book Description
Charming bird designs were everywhere in the late 1800s and early 1900s. They graced linens, china, fabric, jewelry, greeting cards, feed sacks, and more, and inevitably found their way into embroidery kits and quilt patterns, too. From the front parlor, to the bedroom, to the kitchen, bird designs were indicative of the era. Susan McKelvey's much-loved collection of antique bird design items inspired the designs in 'Fancy Feathered Friends for Quilters.' Her aviary of exquisite birds, from the whimsical to the realistic, will enchant quilters of every skill level. Two dozen patterns feature popular bluebirds, purple martins, doves, and swallows, with blocks ranging in style from folk-art to Baltimore Album. Birds swoop in flight, flutter over branches, stand in classic profile, and snuggle together as lovebirds. Susan adds vines, leaves, flowers, branches, vases, and fruits to showcase each bird perfectly. To add to their versatility, patterns can be appliqued, embroidered, or painted. Mix and match elements to create your own unique designs. An extensive gallery of quilts beautifully showcases the designs, providing inspiration and options. Susan shares her expertise on how to use ink pens to create shading and outline details. A section on color shows how to use hue, value, and intensity to advantage. AUTHORBIO: Susan McKelvey caught the quilting bug in 1977 in a quilting class in Greensboro, North Carolina. Although quilting was not a part of her family heritage, it has become a part of her children's lives - they grew up under her design and dewing tables. In 1984, Susan wrote her first quilt book, "Color for Quilters", and many have followed. Through her company, Wallflower Designs, she has produced many patterns and tools for quilters. REVIEW: This wonderful book is crammed full of information, techniques and illustrations.

Excellent !.......2006-09-14
The history is interesting. The patterns are full size, and beautiful. You can do a mix and match from the various patterns ,or follow them as they are presented. The birds are folksy, abstract, and realistic .Depending on what you are looking for, you will certainly find it in this book as it relates to birds and flowers. There are color plates of the completed quilts, and the patterns are in clear black lines. The book is very well done.

There comes a time for most young urban dwellers when they tire of futons on the floor and brick-and-board bookshelves. That's when they discover that decorating an apartment comes with a unique set of problems. Most people don't want to spend a lot of money renovating a place they may live in for just a year or two, and landlords can be picky about renovations such as enlarging rooms by knocking down walls. The New Apartment Book illustrates how to create a stylish home in limited space on a middle-class budget, whether your preferred look is upscale-funky or clean and spare. Though many of the examples feature light, roomy, well-proportioned apartments, many are also designed around elements that one might consider a problem: a tiny kitchen, a bathroom with no storage, an odd brick wall, or a single living/sleeping area. Treat these as interesting design features and use the space creatively, as this book does, and bingo! No more problem. The "smart tips" scattered throughout are easy and fast. Although there are a few rather dull step-by-step projects for lampshades and the like at the end of the book, The New Apartment Book really shines as an inspiring guide to the possibilities of an average apartment or condominium.
Book Description
From an enlightening discussion on such basic principles as function, style, and color to a straightforward look at issues of budget and time, Michael covers all the essentials of creating a dream apartment easily and affordably. A winning blend of creative inspiration and practical guidance, The New Apartment Book provides "tricks of the trade" that new home decorators need. Full-color photos.

Recommended!.......2007-06-01
This book has lots of wonderful ideas for making your pad unique and comfortable with very little money. There is a really great (yet short) section on one room living, and a DIY section in the back.
compellingly photographed but not worth the full cover price.......2006-12-07
I bought this a few years ago when I wanted to understand interiors and the pretty photo hooked me. The book is full of these visual hooks but are they practical layouts? Certainly not for someone who owns books or anything that is not solely for decorative display. This book is interesting in the visual components that have wide appeal - enough to make you buy this book - but not to make you live comfortably. There are certain components that are absolutely necessary to live in your home and you can figure that out by thinking deeply and looking at such books as this one and discovering "what is wrong [i.e. impractica] with this [beautiful] picture?"
If you look at real apartments in NYC, you will see many apartment dwellers trying to live up to this Pottery Barn catalogue style of living without really achieving it and they've got clutter and guilt when they are not especially slovenly. I wouldn't say that this book was inspiring or practical instead it has the kind of photos that make you initially go "ooh, where can I get that?" but do you really need a distressed milk painted stool in the middle of the living room? Is that striped upholstery really going to be tolerable every day of your life? If Heywood Wakefield is so wonderful then why is their stuff all over ebay?
Limited Use for the "Real" Rental Apartment.......2006-01-18
Like other reviewers, I think this book contains beautiful ideas, they just don't seem realistic in my part of the country. Here, I have not heard of a landlord allowing any other color on the walls except what they have already painted. I must say that some of the newer apartments are opting for a more neutral taupe or beige versus white walls, so that is good. There ARE some ideas in this book that show white walls and how to decorate around them. The majority of the rooms display painted or faux walls that of course immediately improve the look of a room.
I do like the ideas that are provided and most of the rooms are great. My word of warning about this book is that many of the ideas are only useful if you own your condo, townhouse or loft space.
There are some good general tips, but most are not anything new you have not heard. Some are useful and pertain to a rented space, i.e. if you replace a light fixture, retain the old one so you can replace it when you leave. Others tips are not useful, "Paint isn't only for walls...a few coats of color on dark cabinets dramatically transform..." If you can't paint the walls in your apartment, I seriously doubt you will be able to paint the cabinets.
I would give this book 3 stars if you do not own your own place and 4 1/2 stars if you do.
I love this book!.......2004-06-27
I bough this book around 5 years ago and love it. It's hard to find good ideas for a studio or small bedroom apt. It's great for people who live in the city (like San Francisco)
Fresh.......2003-05-29
I can be pretty jaded about decorating advice but this book surprised me with fresh furniture ideas. My apartment had all it could hold, so tips on flea market shopping seemed obvious but the author arrainged those "treasures" in such a sophisticated, fresh way. Furniture became art and art became anything. The projects were all mainly practical and approachable with limited expertise needed. These interiors looked glam and lived in. Every page was clean, rich and practical at the same time! Great book all around!

Customer Reviews:
Worth a beginner's GLANCE - but not much of an investment.......2003-09-15
As always with a Rockport book, this item is attractively designed and produced in full color on thick glossy pages - but only 160 of them. Most of the pages are dedicated to displaying alternate views of web pages which have had their markup changed slightly, shown in different browsers, etc. There is *elementary* guidance on such concepts as Frames, Tables, alignment principles, font styles... pretty basic stuff, as you can see.
If you're a complete novice to web design (author suggests you have some HTML familiarity) you may find the book gives you *a few* new ideas about the potentials of design -- but you'll have a lot of further studying ahead of you. Worth spend thirty minutes browsing in a library or book store... but paying thirty greenbacks or so? "Eric Meyer on CSS" will give you a lot more thorough introduction to the process - and actually enable you to put together several different sites.
And - FWIW - strangely, as of September 2003 the author's web site had only one graphic and her email link - not quite what I'd expect for somewhat committed to web design. Hmmm...

This is the book for begginers , it gives you
basic rules about creating webpages , it gives
you scripts that you can find in web without any help.
It has true words and nice photoes but nothing more, if

learning how to look.......2002-10-04
Finally! Someone who knows what makes a website work, and is willing to tell the rest of us. This book is very aptly titled: "Layout", as opposed to "Linux". It teaches me what to look for in a web site design that is effective in both marketing and aesthetic. It gives me all the options I need to design well with plenty of compelling examples. This is not an advanced programming book. In fact, it starts with very basic things. Like using legible fonts. Like pale colored backgrounds (instead of black backgrounds with red lettering). As a professional artist, I know how I want my images to come across on my website. If my site is poor then I lose business. I don't want to spend thousands for a site that looks poor, nor to learn a new career in order to market my current career. The structuring of the lessons, the online resources listed, the tips and commentary in Layout are all excellent.
A great resource........2002-09-24
This book offers a host of useful design suggestions that will help to avoid many of the most common mistakes. If you are a technical person like myself and you frequently wonder why some pages are so much more appealing than others you will find the answers in this great book.
Lots of helpful layout ideas.......2002-09-09
You'll find plenty of examples of good, clean layouts with tips on creating similar pages. The online tutorials are helpful and leave more room for full-color graphics of actual websites. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. Be sure to check out all the recommended sites for tons of examples. A good book for quick reference to well-though-out designs.
